Every so often a movie comes around where no amount of protesting will get me out of watching it. It was like that with “Sex and the City” and it is like that with “Mamma Mia.” The buildup to this movie was such that there was no use in resisting this, especially in the annoying manner I chose such as repeating the film’s title over and over whenever my wife threatened to show it to me.

The problem with ABBA music isn’t that it bad (it isn’t) but that it’s so infectious that when you get 20-plus songs blared at you in movie form, the next few days aren’t spend humming the beat to “Dancing Queen” or “Voulez Vous,” but some strange mixture of the Swedish band’s entire back catalog. Key changes or tempo be damned, I’m able to seamlessly transition between “The Winner Takes it All” and “Honey Honey” anytime I want.

Even as I write this, I’ve got “Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie,” stuck in my head, a song so infectious that Madonna chose to use the instrumental hook in her disco album. My foot is moving and I don’t know how to stop it.

The movie is more or less a retelling of the Broadway musical of the same name, not to be confused with the Shakespeare play of the same name. Girl on Greek island, about to get married, wants her father to walk her down the aisle, but doesn’t know which of three possible candidates her (shall we say, ah, open) mother bedded at the crucial time. She invites the three of them (that dude in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, that dude in the Bridget Jones movie, James Bond) to the wedding. Dancing ensues.

The actors all sing their own songs, something the critics were quick to harp on Pierce Brosnan for his off-key rendition of “S.O.S.” I agreed with them the first time around, but the other funny thing about ABBA is after hearing him belt it out more than half a dozen times, I can’t tell the difference anymore.

The musical has been adapted for countless countries, each translating their own lyrics. Whether audiences hear songs about platform boots or sequins is beyond me, but I’m guessing that the more conservative countries played down the “my mom’s a slut, so which of the three of you are my dad?” angle.

Bronson is plays an architect, Colin Firth a banker and Stellan Skarsgard is some sort of Dutch adventurer, which as we can deduce from the actions of all those other Dutch adventurers, he probably has as many illegitimate children as vowels in his name.

Streep seems the only lead actor to be at home in the movie, but then again she could probably win an Oscar for pulling off a convincing portrayal of Orson Wells reading Paradise Lost on helium; so playing someone who’s bedded Mr. Darcy AND James Bond that’s probably not a stretch. Seyfried (looking bug-eyed here, compared with her turn in Mean Girls), practically disappears from consciousness when she’s on screen, but then again, she is given the dullest songs (“I Have A Dream,” seriously?).

The thing that annoyed me the most about the movie (and I know this isn’t the point, so please don’t write to me) is we never find out which of the three men are the actual father. Through various points in the movie, we see each of them assuming parental duties as they convince themselves that they are dear old dad. So all we have left to infer are which of their younger selves is the most, ah, responsible; as we can infer that the guy riding a motorcycle next to a boat is probably the least likely to care about something like birth control.

That’s why my money’s on Skarsgard.

So I had never heard of Honey Honey til I saw em at The Stronghold in Venice the other night. Let me just say that they put on one hell of a show and that the lead singer/fiddle player/banjo player has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard live or otherwise. Suzanne Santo I freaking love you. Their album First Rodeo is available on I-Tunes and I suggest buying is soon as you can. Key tracks are Black Crows and Come On Home for that really blusey folk stuff and Give Yourself to Me is more like Little Toy Gun. Oh and I like the Kiefer Sutherland cameo in the video that’s cool.

Canteen’s Bands Undone got its groove on with the dance duo Bonjay on November 19th.
The duo consist of Alanna Stuart and Pho.
It wasn’t an acoustic set, more like a laid back acapella with funky dance beats.
Amazed with Alanna’s vocal abilities when she sang without a mic.
The duo has just released their first EP called Gimme Gimme which is an amazing song.
Forgot the name of the first song.
The second song Alanna sang some parts of Feist’s Honey Honey which I didn’t know until she mentioned it.
While the third song it was Gimme Gimme and it was amazing to hear it in a intimate atmosphere.
The people who were in attendance were having a great time just listening to their music while sitting and bopping away.
The duo really like this idea and had a great time doing this.
But not used to playing with the lights on.
The duo was really nice and hoping more people will come out and see them play.
Seeing big things will happen for them in 2010.

I’ve had to edit this blog cos doh, silly me Autumn isn’t supposed to start till Octoberish! lol  So this can be a premature tribute to Autumn :S

I put this outfit together to show off these new shoes I got from >Truth< yesterday. I saw these boots in another blog in the Charcoal colour, but I bought them in the Midnight colour. I’m also showing off this sweater from Fishy Strawberry (which is the prize for the Skipping Stones hunt). I’ve edited to make in shorter so that it looks more like a top than a dress. The colour scheme in this outfit is more of a cross between summer and autumn, the greens are still here but the leaves are changing to purples.

I actually have a Feist CD somewhere that a friend copied for me.  I’ve never listened to it, but off the back of this song I think I might have to dig around for it.  This is another youtube fanvid discovery; one of two that I couldn’t choose between.  I don’t like this song as much as the other, but it had better connotations and the video is kinda trippy lol.  Enjoy!

Have a job interview tomorrow – actually for a job I did for 3 summers in my hometown.  First time I’ve had to apply or interview for it!  Hoping that the new woman likes me, and that the fact that all the longstanding staff members know me well will count in my favour.  Will be in town overnight so may have to round up another team for the local pub quiz and see if we can come first again lol.

I had a weird incident with predictive text today – I get that it doesn’t have some words, but sometimes the suggestions it comes up with instead are ridiculous.  Today I tried to write the word ‘Hutchinson’ in a text.  ‘Hutchinson’ is not a word in my phone’s dictionary (understandable), but ‘Hutchinsnn’ is.  o.O   Srsly.

This entry is not interesting because I am tired and my eye hurts.

Goodnight!  (And send me fairy dust for the interview.  I am not sure how that will help, but if I say something silly I’ll just sprinkle it on the woman and say ‘Obliviate’ and modify her memory.  Or not modify her memory.  And then she will think I am even stranger and give me the job out of fear that that I will go crazy with an ice axe if she doesn’t.)

The 2 popular male and female groups came together on a music show and sang not only korean but also english songs. Furthermore, they each sang each other’s hit song; SNSD singing ‘Sorry Sorry’ & Super Junior singing ‘Gee’. The girls sound better when the 2 groups sang in english, you will know what I mean when you hear them sing. Overall, both groups sang really well and proved to netizens once again that they can sing. I will post some of my favourite performances only, excluding the interviews. By the way, not all were present for both groups that day.

Popular groups, SNSD and Super Junior became the first idol groups to appear on MBC ‘Music Trip Lalala’.

SNSD Taeyeon, Jessica, Seohyun, Sunny, and Tiffany as well as Super Junior finished recording ‘Lalala’ on the 3rd.

Kim Changwan, who is part of the group, Sanwoollim, hosts ‘Lalala’ which is mostly a live performance music program for currently promoting main and non-mainstream groups to sing their songs. Since this program is based on an honest talk with live performance, idol groups have never appeared on the show once from the first time it aired in November and until now.

On the 5th, ‘Lalala’ producer shared his reason of having them on the show by saying “SNSD and Super Junior are extremely popular groups, but we invited them on the show to take a look at their different side in music”.

The producer asked SNSD and Super Junior two months ago to find songs that fit the program.

SNSD and Super Junior chose famous movie O.S.T songs and were able to sing without any problems.

SNSD sang ‘Mama Mia O.S.T’ Honey, Honey’ and ‘Pounds Beauty’s ‘Beauty Girl’, while Super Junior sang ‘Notting Hill’ O.S.T ‘She’, etc and showed their splendid singing talents.

Also, SNSD and Super Junior sang newly arranged versions of each other’s popular song, ‘Gee’ and ‘Sorry,Sorry’ and have been attracting a level of expectation from fans.

The program manager said “I heard that they have practiced for at least a month. SNSD and Super Junior sang extremely well” and showed an expectation.

‘Lalala’ that SNSD and Super Junior appeared on is arranged to be aired on the 24th.

Hi all, it’s been a few days, yea? Lately I’ve been feeling so creative, I’ve been working on some other things, which in turn has inspired me to blog! I’ve been feeling a lot of different looks, and here is a trio for you. I’m seriously regretting not taking out my piercing for the third one, but it’s ok. I’d gotten so use to using it, it was second nature to see it on my face! lol. Some notables are the frickin’ fantastic Shade Throne earrings (<3 Undo), NINIKO’s new bow top, Esme Milena’s new poses (not for sale yet, but I really hope she makes more and opens up shop…they are fantastic), the Kalnins‘ shoes everyone’s been in love over (srsly, from first sight…I was so enamoured with them it took me days and days to wear them…this happens sometimes with things I like too much, lol), ROT’s authentic Doc Martin/Combat boots (not new, but worth mentioning since they are the best out there, imho), LaGyo’s ‘Space Cuties’ choker (like all Gyo’s things, it’s edgy, girly and totally cool), [ glow ] studio’s lashes (I’ve been meaning to post about them for ages, probably the most exciting place for lashes out there), Au Jus poses (small shop, new to me, and I like them) and booN’s GIC128 hair (which is one of the newer styles, and completely saucy/cute and sooe wearable- I love the side curls). *phew* I had to do my loves in list form, to prevent you from reading a novel.  

Well, there’s lots of new things to come soon, and I’m exciting for some of the upcoming releases including BP* and LeLutka. (Bettiepage and Minnu have been posting tantilizing teasers on their flickrs and I’m really excited about it!!!) I’m out of town, for real, this weekend. (No bailout disaster camping, no way!) ps. I forgot to talk about Eva’s Bubble Dress, which I wore 3 days in a row…with all three layers on, then as a skinner version with the top ‘puff off’ and then finally as a shirt. His & Her Mix - Whimsy

Sasy told me about this chic tote from Dark Mouse, I immediately teleported to Dark Mouse.   Comes in a pack of 4 colors for only a hundred lindens!  There is a Red one as a  monthly gift for group members if you join the group too.  It’s a chic straw tote packed with goodies from the market, wine, bread, and a bouquet of sunflowers. I love an awesome tote packed with things, and this fits the bill.  The bright sunshine yellow flowers were so nice,  I chose to accessorize my outfit with a bright shock of yellow.

My next choice for adding more color were my Ballet Flats in Lemon/Black from Flair.  A perfect casual flat, it has these cute little safety pins on them, and come in two colors per pack.  PSST!  If you buy the Yellow/Black Pinned Ballet Flats (shown here) from Flair @ The Deck , and IM Sasy Scarborough saying you saw them on “Whimsy’s Blog” or “Virtually Dressed”, you can choose any other color in the same range  for free!

Milli Santos told me about this store called Honey-Honey a month ago, I teleported over and saw the clothes which were casual and beach oriented at extremely affordable prices, and I bought the whole store!   Items range from cute tube tops like I am wearing here, in black & white check, with a baby-doll top option, to hand drawn tops with sculpted collars, swim wear, shorts, jeans, and skirts.  I also wore Honey-Honey’s White pants, which are nicely drawn, with sculpted cuffs.  I added Honey-Honey’s Black Leather Belt, but I re-textured the silver details to gold, on my own with my textures to match my jewelry.

I mixed in some more yellow with a collection of various jewelery and bangles I have picked up from VG Republic (still closed), and Zaara.  I love these big chunky bangles called Melange, from Zaara, bonus they come with right and left, so you can wear 1 set or really go big with 2 sets on.  They come in a variety of colors, and are reasonably priced.  Zaara has earrings and other jewelry too so be sure to check those out next time you are there.

I’m wearing a the latest skin from Adam N Eve, called Beauty in T4, nude makeup, I hope to blog it soon.  I usually go for T3 at Adam N Eve, but I saw it on Sasy in this shade and went WOW.  One shade darker then T3, and a very lovely tan, I hope to wear it with lots of beach wear this summer.  I am totally in love with the butt on it!  I have a relatively new hair on Torwen from ETD.  First featured when ETD reopened last month.  Shown in Chestnut, its a lovely side pony.

His & Her Mix - Gary

Gary has this knack of showing up matching his outfit to mine well.  After getting changed for the day he showed up and voila he had this on.  I had to take photos of course, as it was completely unplanned that day.

Gary loves his Akeyo Chucks,  they are color changeable, and he fully utilises this feature. Well at least I know cause I hear it all the time.  Gary’s latest big purchase was the new men’s release at artilleri.  He made a very wise investment in the entire set of bowling shirts, shown here in Flames.  I have always loved artilleri’s bowling shirts on him and these fit in perfectly with what he already owns.  Click here to see the 16 piece release of shirts.  He would have worn his artilleri Burt jeans but Sasy stole them!!

Instead he went with another favorite pair of jeans, Black Classic, from Armidi.  They are nicely detailed, a nice color, and feature prim pant legs.  Gary is also wearing a great necklace called Quest, from Uzuri, which was a store gift.  We both own this one and I really like how unisex it is.  He’s wearing Clutch from Tukinowaguma for hair, and one of the Ewan skins from Belleza, and Taped Fingers & Black Nails from SiniStyle Designs.
