Ok. So I realize that I kind of bummed out on my 30 days thing. *shame* I’ve been pretty busy

Ok. So I realize that I kind of bummed out on my 30 days thing. *shame* I’ve been pretty busy lately and I kind of lost all motivation to do this after I stopped running. Weird, right? I should probably start running again. :-\

Anyway, I’m back with a new quote that I came across in readings for my anthropology class.

“Body art is about conformity and rebellion, freedom and authority.”
-Enid Schildkrout

My first tattoo - on the bottom of my foot

I just thought this quote was quite awesome. In the west, especially the United States, I think that we view body art – especially tattooing and piercing – as a sign of individuality and freedom, but we don’t really consider the part of conformity. Marines as well as other branches of the army get tattoos as signs of devotion, prestige, and honor. In other cultures, some get piercings, body art, or change their hair as initiation into that particular culture.

I think that it’s just amazing that body art can cover such a vast array of aspects in every culture. Makeup, clothing, hairstyles, piercings, tattoos, henna, almost everything can be considered body art.

Question: Do you have any tattoos? If not, do you want one, if yes, of what?

Don't Get Stuck With A Label!

Don’t become stuck with labels people have pinned upon you and you don’t have to live do

Don’t become stuck with labels people have pinned upon you and you don’t have to live down to their opinion of you, live beyond! Times change and so do people (who are open to change), you may not have been the most loving, honorable, respectful person growing up but that doesn’t mean you have to be the same as an adult. I wasn’t always nice and have done things that would make your jaw drop, at times a down right ass, but as an adult I take responsibility for what happened in my youth and my ignorance as a young adult. I forgave myself for my misdeeds and those who committed misdeeds against me.

You can become aware of you and your past, acknowledge your mistakes, accept and apologize for your mistakes (if able to contact the one one did wrong), forgive yourself and others and make a behavioral change growing forward towards, “Enjoying A Better You!”

If at that point you encounter someone from your past that wants to drag you backwards with actions or words. Inform them you’ve grown forward, if they can’t except it let them go! People will try to keep you down! They’ll use your past against you in an attempt to bring you back to what they want to be or feel is your reality. But it’s your past not your present, if they choose to stay in the past, let them stay. Let them know, “yeah, I did those things in my past and you know I behaved in that manner but I don’t live there anymore! I’m loving, honoring and respecting myself and others!”

Don’t ever punish yourself over and over for mistakes you’ve made! Don’t allow people to punish you over and over for mistakes you’ve made. People will always hold on to the negative and throw it at you to gain an edge in an attempt to make themselves feel or look better. If you’re aware, acknowledge, accept and moved forward, there’s no need to fear being exposed. The authentic you is real and present! The authentic you came about from your past good deeds, errors and formed you for your present being!

I wouldn’t change a thing about my past however unfortunate an action, word or circumstance. That change may change everything about me in the present! I forgive myself, I forgive you and ask you forgive me! I love who I am today, my past brought me here and I wont apologize for it over and over! I will change what I can and not worry about what I can’t and I can’t change the past, neither can you!

Today, stop punishing yourself and allowing others to punish you in action or word for your past! Let the label go!

I’ve come to the conclusion that there seems to be very little amount of pleasure/hobbies that us Christians can indulge in! Over the years I’ve tried various self-fulfilling hobbies (even money-making hobbies) to occupy my time and every single one usually left me convicted. There were lots, let me assure you and some are even too embarrassing to mention here! But, like in my last post, God is always good and He has been gracious enough to lead me to one that I can enjoy (at least for now ) and possibly make a little money if He so wills.

And that is photography. I’ve always loved it and have been challenged by it. Just as any hobby/passion can divert our attention away from Jesus, this one let’s me come and go as I please. It’s not all that time consuming, I enjoy it when I want and when I get frustrated, I leave it. But the key to it, is to handle it with care. Just like anything, it has the potential to take me down a road that goes against the knowledge of God. Working with models who want to do something “artsy”, viewing other photographers work for inspiration can assault me with nudity at any time, posting even my own work has the potential to be stolen, and then manipulated into something provocative. Never forget the enemy is always at work and in these last days, even more so.

Over the years I have had many failed attempts at stock photography. Did you catch that? Failed. Lots of rejection, lots of hurt feelings and stings to my ego (when I had one), but I never gave up. It encouraged me to work harder (when I wanted to), try new things, ask for opinions, actually use tutorials, work with new editing software, step outside the box alittle, etc. And right now, after all that rejection, I finally had one of my photo’s accepted at a stock photography site! Yay!

I never thought it would happen. Especially after giving up so many times; especially after every time I was turned down, I vowed to give it up forever! Well, things changed when I started this blog and was at a loss for graphics and images. Acquiring free and legal images isn’t always easy (see, God even convicts me on the use of internet pictures!) and the quest can be daunting, not only to get them legally, but to get high-quality images and for FREE. But I do have a couple faithful sites that I use and I have been successful with them. It was on one of my many quests for images that I found the site that accepted my first work of photography (link to the right of the page).

The reason this all started was because each time I posted a new entry here, I would always say to myself, “I should be using my own work!” Well, that developed into a full out endeavor of setting up a work space (in a different room), finding good light, using settings on my camera I’m not used to, buying/working with my new photo editing software, learning the photo/graphics guidelines for the upload site, waiting to be accepted, etc. All of this is very time consuming, so you can see with the limited amount of time I have, that this was something I had to make sacrifices for. And that’s okay. It’s a hobby with a purpose! And most of all, it is God glorifying!

Which after all, is worth pursuing. I want to strive to create more God honoring photo’s that others can utilize in their own works and in mine. And that’s the end result, working to advance the kingdom, posting and sharing the Gospel message, even through photography.

My body and my mind both feel so rested right now. As I peacefully recline in this awesome chair wi

My body and my mind both feel so rested right now. As I peacefully recline in this awesome chair with my laptop perched on my knees, I take in the aroma of a “cinnamon bun” scented candle and watch my light-up glass figurine of a moose from Alaska. My nose is stuffy and my throat is sore – it’s that time of year when everyone seems to have a cold – and I think to myself that nothing could be better in this moment. All is well.

Last Sunday at church, Matt was speaking because PC was out of town. We were reading Luke 7:36-50. Matt challenged us to reflect on what God has forgiven us of. He pointed out as well that if we don’t remember anything else from the message he gave us, that we should remember this: The woman’s love for Jesus was a response to His forgiveness, not the cause of it.

Then tonight we watched a video about commercialism in the United States during Christmastime especially, and PC read to us from Luke 12:16-21 and challenged us to ask what it would looks like to be “rich toward God” rather than rich toward ourselves. He reminded us again of the parable of the wise man building his house on the rock and the foolish man building his house on the sand. “The rock,” he said, “is God. So what’s the sand? The sand is everything else, even good things.” If our lives are founded on (relying on) anything other than God, we have an unreliable foundation.

And now to my point =) I take a long time to get to it, don’t I? haha.

I sit here, in the warmth and peacefulness of this room, wearing a new turtleneck shirt I bought yesterday for $4.50 and some maternity pajama pants cuz they’re hella cozy, and I think to myself: WHY?

Why does God love me SO much??? I let myself forget his love certainly. I get distracted with life, with drama, with everything going wrong, but when I hear those reminders like I heard tonight and last Sunday, I’m brought to tears again. God gave me himself . His own flesh and blood. On that cross. For me!

He gave me many things of course – salvation, eternal life, the promise of heaven, the beautiful friends in my life, the pastors and mentors who teach me truth and guide in the right direction, seven little crazy monkey siblings, a beautiful, beautiful little son and a beautiful family to adopt him. God gave me a source of income through school loans and grants, and then blessed me with getting A’s this semester enabling me to continue to recieve my grants and loans. He gave me the strength and courage I needed to move out of my mom’s house and then later out of my boyfriend’s home too. I guess being abused is just so familiar to me that I keep getting into these whacky scenarios.

But the long and short of it is that – above ALL the other gifts God has, does, and will continue to “lavish” on me (Ephesians 2), the one that takes my breath away and the one that brings me to my knees weeping is the gift of his presesnce with me. The God of the universe took the time to notice the five-foot-tall girl off in the corner. He saw me, and he loved me, and he said I was worth his time, his love, his presence, his friendship, his very blood spilled out from his open wounds.

I got a letter from my Compassion child in Colombia this week. If you’re not familiar with Compassion, they are an organization committed to meeting the needs of children in third world countries who live in poverty. Please visit my link “Compassion” on the side of this blog. My child’s name is Jorge, and we wrote to me:

gracias por escojerme entre todos los niños

Thanks for choosing me from among all the children.

That is how I feel when I see God’s hand at work in my life. That is how my heart overflows when I realize that he sees me and that he cares for me and that he chose me as his child from among everyone. Not that he doesn’t love us each equally, but he only adopts those who choose to be adopted by him – he doesn’t force his presence into anyone’s life and so will only enter into a friendship with someone who wants to be friends with him, if that makes sense.

I know for certainty that I am loved and that I belong to Christ and that I am covered with his righteousness. I have moments, and sometimes those moments stretch on for a series of days, in which I feel unlovable, worthless, wicked, stupid, insignificant, and any number of other things. The awesome part about feelings is that – they are feelings! They are not statements of truth.

Sometimes Satan throws these lies at right when we’re doing well – right when we’re being the most effective for God’s kingdom, right when we’re praising and worshipping this King with all that’s in us (Check out my link “Depression” and go to Part 7 for a blog about spiritual warfare). God is trustworthy, however, and we can rely on what he tells us about our identity and we can rely on his promises that he will always help us and he will never leave us.

I don’t want to get so wrapped up in the drama going on in my life that I lose sight of what I’ve been saved from, and what I’ve been saved for. I need to ask myself on a daily basis, “Is Jesus my treasure?” This is something my pastor Matt asked me a few years ago and I keep thinking about it when life gets rocky. Is Jesus the reason I live? Do I worship him more than I worship anyone and anything else in this life? Do I desire him more than I desire anything else? Do I trust him? Do I rely on him? Do I take him at his word? Do I desire to honor him with my life, with my relationships, with my thoughts, with my finances, with my body, with my heart, with my day-to-day choices? Do I realize that everything I have is not my own? Do I realize that I’ve been bought with a price? Do I LOVE him?

And if not, what’s holding me back? Seriously.

1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world.[a] He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2, NLT

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I like to think of myself as a rather reserved, respectable, controlled individual so I, of course, was NOT doing the total happy dance when I saw that Birthing Magazine had highlighted one of my blog posts on their Facebook page. How unbecoming that would be! I most definitely did NOT get butterflies in my tummy and a smile stretched across my face from ear to ear. I was in NO way filled with total joy knowing that a periodical thought enough of something I wrote to mention it to their readers. That would be so immature and in no way within my character. And because of this you know that I didn’t call my husband and my mom to tell them how awesome I am. Nope, not me. I am the picture of cool, calm, and collected. Oh, and in case you didn’t see it…

Que alaben su nombre con danzas;
que le canten salmos al son de la lira y el pandero.
Porque el Señor se complace en su pueblo;

Nunca mires a tus problemas.

Yesterday, or Saturday 11/28/09 was a very interesting and busy day for me. Consequently, though I intended to get the promise posted first thing, the day got away from me and I was not successful in getting it posted. I hope your day wasn’t spoiled because of it!

A good friend of mine lost a young family member on Wed, the day before Thanksgiving. Though I’m not at liberty to share anything more, the Lord knows who you are lifting up, and I’m appealing to you to do just that. Lift my friends’ family up, and ask the Lord to give them consolation, will you? Thanks!

Also, I’ve posted a letter from a physician to his Senator entitled “This Is Too Important To Not Post” on this blog from WordPress that would behoove you to send your friends and family to! The healthcare bill before the senate, if passed, will remove many of our human rights, especially for the elderly and the low income citizens of our great country, so please exercise your civil rights and take a look, then take action if you are so inclined!

American civil liberty could be obsolete if we don’t take action together!

Now, for yesterdays promise that comes from our Gospel according to Luke.

Luke 11:9 “So, I say to you, ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

Remember as well that God has said we are more than conquerors!

Now, for the Sunday promise! Today is November 29, 2009. The promise comes from 2 Samuel 22:31 “As for God, His way is blameless; the word of the Lord is tested; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.”

If there was a way for me to share audio with you here (I don’t have a mic!) I would do that, but I can share these words from one of my favorite songs:

“Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me!
You’re my glory,
And the lifter of my head!”

So there you have both promises for this last weekend in November!

Hoping you all have a fabulous day today!

Best to you,

Hello Paar, I understand your love of Jesus, Mary and Moses. However, about Krishna, Buddha, Zoroaster and Cyrus, are you sure you are not violating the Quranic injunction?

Buddha particularly was an agnostic or a Deist who never really discussed about divinity and supernatural in his teaching. Maybe your answer will be that these people were originally prophets but their teachings interpolated over time period. Right?

How about Confucius? Do you love him too?

Hi friends.

Since Quran is a Word of Revelation from the All-Wise, the Creator- God Allah YHWH; He sent Messenger Prophets to all the lands of the world to guide the humanity to His path. Now that the world has become like a close-net village; all these Messengers Prophets have been honored by Muhammad. The truthful Revelations, deeds/acts of all these Messengers Prophets have been secured in Quran; and their role has been set by God to introduce their nations and lead them to Muhammad – the Seal of Messengers Prophets; Muhammad authenticates their truthfulness, under lasting principles mentioned in Quran.

I love Jesus, Mary, Moses, Moses’ mother, Krishna, Buddha, Lao Tse , Confucius, Socrates, Zoroaster, Cyrus etc great leaders of the world in Ethics, Morals and Spirituality; I love them all; this is the teaching of Quran/Islam/Muhammad as explained by the Promised Messiah 1835-1908. I think it has got a lot of common sense and wisdom; my Atheist and Agnostic friends would admit.

My guess is that those trained in Iraq (and are planting IED’s in Afghanistan) are applying their knowledge in Afghanistan, but without co-opting the US military in their effort. They are planting the IED’s and swarming the US forces as a tactic to win, instead of continuing the status quo, as was the strategy of the insurgency in Iraq.

via The Image. (Post has not been made public yet.)

Obama told reporters that his strategy will be revealed after Thanksgiving holiday. If this strategy has not been explained yet, I think it will be a strategy similar to the Taliban’s; it will be a strategy to win. It will be a strategy to defeat the Taliban, instead of co-opting it with a fight against AQ and drones. If it is not a strategy to win, then Obama does not understand the strategy of the enemy of his war, or war has only been explained in political terms.

If his strategy is one of winning, the strategy will have a heavy component of cooperation with Afghanistan’s neighbors, specifically India, but possibly Iran as well. My analysis may be just an image I picked-up after reading comments and postings on the internet, or the image of his talks with the Prime Minister of India, that I watched on TV.

There could also be a China component, from China’s interest in Afghanistan as a conduit for oil to the India Ocean, because to win you don’t try to balance the force, but overwhelm the forces.

I just had to comment on the following OP-ED piece from the New York Times on Nov 26, 2009.

What I am amazed at is how people who do not know God try to ACT like they know Him. What they fail to realize is that God must be “revealed” to us (Paul calls it the ’spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him’ -Eph 1:17). He is not to be figured out by our tiny brains. Why do we even pretend to think we can figure Almighty God out? As Mr. Kristof illustrates, modern ’self-enlightened man’ thinks we have an ‘evolving’ view of God. As he concludes:

“I’m hoping that the latest crop of books marks an armistice in the religious wars, a move away from both religious intolerance and irreligious intolerance. That would be a sign that perhaps we, along with God, are evolving toward a higher moral order.”

Mr. Kristoff, if there is any evolution going on here, it is man evolving farther away from our Creator God. Yes, He is an ‘intolerant’ God. He says “You shall have no other god’s beside me“. Modern man as well as ancient ‘heathen’ man has had the same problem from the very beginning…we make ourselves and what WE think to be more important than God. We become our own ‘god’s’.

Paul brilliantly explained in Romans 1 that God and His invisible attributes (eternal power and divine nature) can be clearly perceived by even the most ignorant and backward man. The problem as Paul points out is that even though we can perceive this awesome God and what He has created, we refuse to honor Him as God and refuse to have a grateful heart toward Him. We become futile (I might add stupid) in our thinking and our foolish hearts become darkened. God opens the door to our hearts, but when we fail to honor Him, our hearts become darkened, and there is no ‘revelation’ from Him as to His amazing Grace and Love. He has been the same yesterday, today and forever. It is mankind who changes, becoming wiser and wiser in our own ‘conceits’.

Mr. Kristoff’s article is an excellent representation of just how foolish our thinking is becoming. I am placing his column here so that you can discern for your self. To see further examples of darkened hearts (this time ‘celebrities’) read my column “We don’t need no stinkin’ God, we’re Celebrities and Rock Stars!” One example of further ignorance is the comment by Angelina Jolie, who said this when asked if there is a God:

“Hmm… For some people, I hope so, for them. For the people who believe in it, I hope so. There doesn’t need to be a God for me. There’s something in people that’s spiritual, that’s godlike. I don’t feel like doing things just because people say things, but I also don’t really know if it’s better to just not believe in anything, either.”

If we can’t come to an agreement on who God is, maybe we should follow Angelina’s advice and ‘just not believe in anything, either.” The we won’t have ‘Religious Wars’. I might add that we won’t have Salvation either!

The Religious Wars By NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF

“Just a few years ago, it seemed curious that an omniscient, omnipotent God wouldn’t smite tormentors like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris. They all published best-selling books excoriating religion and practically inviting lightning bolts.

Traditionally, religious wars were fought with swords and sieges; today, they often are fought with books. And in literary circles, these battles have usually been fought at the extremes.

Fundamentalists fired volleys of Left Behind novels, in which Jesus returns to Earth to battle the Anti-Christ (whose day job was secretary general of the United Nations). Meanwhile, devout atheists built mocking Web sites like www.whydoesGodhateamputees.com. [One profound statement from this site: "If God is imaginary, then religion is a complete illusion. Christianity, Judaism and Islam are pointless. Belief in God is nothing but a silly superstition, and this superstition leads a significant portion of the population to be delusional." Well mudpreacher contends that the delusion is all in the minds of those who refuse to honor God as God, and the delusion results from a darkened heart(-mp)] That site notes that although believers periodically credit prayer with curing cancer, God never seems to regrow lost limbs. It demands an end to divine discrimination against amputees.

This year is different, with a crop of books that are less combative and more thoughtful. One of these is “The Evolution of God,” by Robert Wright, who explores how religions have changed — improved — over the millennia. He notes that God, as perceived by humans, has mellowed from the capricious warlord sometimes depicted in the Old Testament who periodically orders genocides.

(In 1 Samuel 15:3, the Lord orders a mass slaughter of the Amalekite tribe: “Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child.” These days, that would earn God an indictment before the International Criminal Court.) [Once again, man wants to exert authority over God-mp]

Mr. Wright also argues that monotheism emerged only gradually among Israelites, and that the God familiar to us may have resulted from a merger of a creator god, El, and a warrior god, Yahweh. Mr. Wright also argues that monotheism wasn’t firmly established until after the Babylonian exile, and he says that Moses’s point was that other gods shouldn’t be worshiped, not that they didn’t exist. For example, he notes the troubling references to a “divine council” and “gods” — plural — in Psalm 82.

In another revelation not usually found in Sunday School classes, Mr. Wright cites Biblical evidence that God (both El and Yahweh) had a sex life, rather like the Greek gods, and notes archaeological discoveries indicating that Yahweh may have had a wife, Asherah. (I find this statement as stupid as you can get. It brings our Creator God down to our level-maybe that makes Mr. Wright feel more at peace with his conscience. He will be in for a harsh awakening when he finally sees God as He is. But it will be too late).

As for Christianity, Mr. Wright argues that it was Saint Paul — more than Jesus, an apocalyptic prophet — who emphasized love and universalism and built Christian faith as it is known today. Saint Paul focused on these elements, he says, partly as a way to broaden the appeal of the church and convert Gentiles.

Mr. Wright detects an evolution toward an image of God as a more beneficient and universal deity, one whose moral compass favors compassion for humans of whatever race or tribe, one who is now firmly in the antigenocide camp. Mr. Wright’s focus is not on whether God exists, but he does suggest that changing perceptions of God reflect a moral direction to history — and that this in turn perhaps reflects some kind of spiritual force.

“To the extent that ‘god’ grows, that is evidence — maybe not massive evidence, but some evidence — of higher purpose,” Mr. Wright says.

Another best-seller this year, Karen Armstrong’s “The Case for God,” likewise doesn’t posit a Grandpa-in-the-Sky; rather, she sees God in terms of an ineffable presence that can be neither proven nor disproven in any rational sense. To Ms. Armstrong, faith belongs to the realm of life’s mysteries, beyond the world of reason, and people on both sides of the “God gap” make the mistake of interpreting religious traditions too literally.

“Over the centuries people in all cultures discovered that by pushing their reasoning powers to the limit, stretching language to the end of its tether, and living as selflessly and compassionately as possible, they experienced a transcendence that enabled them to affirm their suffering with serenity and courage,” Ms. Armstrong writes. Her book suggests that religion is not meant to regrow lost limbs, but that it may help some amputees come to terms with their losses.

Whatever one’s take on God, there’s no doubt that religion remains one of the most powerful forces in the world. Today, millions of people will be giving thanks to Him — or Her or It.

Another new book, “The Faith Instinct,” by my Times colleague Nicholas Wade, suggests a reason for the durability of faith: humans may be programmed for religious belief, because faith conferred evolutionary advantages in primitive times. That doesn’t go to the question of whether God exists, but it suggests that religion in some form may be with us for eons to come.

I’m hoping that the latest crop of books marks an armistice in the religious wars, a move away from both religious intolerance and irreligious intolerance. That would be a sign that perhaps we, along with God, are evolving toward a higher moral order.”

Thank you Mr. Kristoff. I became so focused on thanking God for all He has done in my life and for my family and for my church that I forgot how much still needs to be done. I thank you for reminding me that America is joining the ranks of the rest of the nations that have forgotten who God really is. We have our work cut out for us, because America needs to rediscover who our awesome Creator God is!

Hope everyone takes time to thank God, the REVEALED God of His Word!

I received this via email and felt compelled to share it with you, a valuable lesson to learn and to remember as we so often forget as we get caught up in our every day lives~I hope you enjoy~

It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the season.

How I personally feel about this celebration can probably be most easily understood by those of you who have been blessed with children of your own. I don’t care what you call the day. If you want to celebrate My birth, just GET ALONG AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

Now, having said that let Me go on. If it bothers you that the town in which you live doesn’t allow a scene depicting My birth, then just get rid of a couple of Santas and snowmen and put in a small Nativity scene on your own front lawn If all My followers did that there wouldn’t be any need for such a scene on the town square because there would be many of them all around town.

Stop worrying about the fact that people are calling the tree a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas tree. It was I who made all trees. You can remember Me anytime you see any tree. Decorate a grape vine if you wish: I actually spoke of that one in a teaching, explaining who I am in relation to you and what each of our tasks were. If you have forgotten that one, look up John 15: 1 – 8.

If you want to give Me a present in remembrance of My birth here is my wish list. Choose something from it:

1. Instead of writing protest letters objecting to the way My birthday is being celebrated, write letters of love and hope to soldiers away from home. They are terribly afraid and lonely this time of year. I know, they tell Me all the time.

2. Visit someone in a nursing home. You don’t have to know them personally. They just need to know that someone cares about them.

3. Instead of writing the President complaining about the wording on the cards his staff sent out this year, why don’t you write and tell him that you’ll be praying for him and his family this year. Then follow up… It will be nice hearing from you again.

4. Instead of giving your children a lot of gifts you can’t afford and they don’t need, spend time with them. Tell them the story of My birth, and why I came to live with you down here. Hold them in your arms and remind them that I love them.

5 Pick someone that has hurt you in the past and forgive him or her.

6. Did you know that someone in your town will attempt to take their own life this season because they feel so alone and hopeless? Since you don’t know who that person is, try giving everyone you meet a warm smile; it could make the difference.

7. Instead of nit picking about what the retailer in your town calls the holiday, be patient with the people who work there. Give them a warm smile and a kind word. Even if they aren’t allowed to wish you a “Merry Christmas” that doesn’t keep you from wishing them one. Then stop shopping there on Sunday. If the store didn’t make so much money on that day they’d close and let their employees spend the day at home with their families

8. If you really want to make a difference, support a missionary– especially one who takes My love and Good News to those who have never heard My
name.

9. Here’s a good one. There are individuals and whole families in your town who not only will have no “Christmas” tree, but neither will they have any presents to give or receive. If you don’t know them,
buy some food and a few gifts and give them to the Salvation Army or some other charity which believes in Me and they will make the delivery for you.

10. Finally, if you want to make a statement about
your belief in and loyalty to Me, then behave like a Christian. Don’t do things in secret that you wouldn’t do in My presence. Let people know by your actions that you are one of mine.

Don’t forget; I am God and can take care of Myself. Just love Me and do what I have told you to do. I’ll take care of all the rest. Check out the list above and get to work; time is short. I’ll help you, but the ball is now in your court. And do have a most blessed Christmas with all those whom you love and remember :

I LOVE YOU,
Jesus

Netflix: Taking Chance.

I am a U.S. Army war veteran and sometimes I hate or love films about that lifestyle. Most have to do with the battle itself and every now and then you get one about the honor and/or loss. This film is one of those. Having served as honor guard for military burial services I can tell you that Kevin Bacon did a great job depicting the uncomfortable feeling a soldier gets when in that situation. You are there to show honor to your fellow military brother and make sure their family and friends takes a sense of pride with them, about that person, from the funeral. The family, or people in general, give you so much respect and gratitude you have a very overwhelming uncomfortable feeling because you being there is all about that fallen soldier and not you in your eyes. At the same time you know it gives them a calming feeling knowing they can give you some of the love they feel for that person they have just lost because of your military bond with their loved one.

This film and Kevin did a great job showing the honor and respect involved in the United States Military that only members of the armed services can truly understand. Throughout this film I had this overwhelming feeling I should be standing up at attention the whole time I watched it. What a great film!! If you are a veteran or want to attempt to understand that bond in the military watch this film… will tear your heart out!

Here are Ways #s 4 and 5 from the last post which promised you 5 Ways to Be More Great-full (Boost Your Gratitude Attitude)…

#4: FAMILY (or couple’s) GRATITUDE BOOK
We just spent a very pleasant hour doing this great art & writing interactive project. So simple and yet so meaningful and fun! Quality family time!

We do not watch television, nor do our children. We are dedicated to parenting consciously and strive to support a vibration of love in our household. Yet, given that my husband and I are both entrepreneurs, with seven businesses between the two of us, and given that our children are still quite young, we know how important and sometimes challenging it can be to come up ideas (not to mention time, energy and materials) for positive family experiences.

I myself am about the least craftsy person you will ever meet and can draw a stick figure on a good day! So believe me when I tell you: Yes, you CAN do this project, and probably with what’s already available in your home. It really ranks high on simple, high on fun, high on memorable, and low on expense. (I can NEVER do those Origami things, puuleeeeeazzze, can we talk?)

Thanksgiving weekend is the perfect time to do this Family Gratitude Book…but of course so is any day that ends in “y.” Monday, Tuesday…. Enjoy!

Materials:

All you need is:

Some blank paper (we used printer or copy paper, white)

Construction paper

Ribbon or brass brads to secure the book

Markers, pencils, hole punch and/or scissors

Optional: Stickers, stamps, other art supplies, scrapbook, photos

Definitely: A little bit of time and lots of love!

We started by making a brainstormed list of everything we are grateful for. You can do this any way you like; follow your own creative impulses & inspiration. We have four family members, so I decided to color code what we wrote on this collective page or you could just all write and draw without attributing who said/drew what, or make a chart, have sections of the page, etc. The things my 6-year-old called out first were written in yellow, my 10-year-old chose blue, I picked purple and my husband green. We made a color key on the page and wrote and drew various things we are thankful for: Our dog came first, followed by a lovely torrent such as family and friends, food, a good home, music, the Earth, music, health, God, life and so on.

Then I gave each family member a separate page on which to do whatever they like, the only requirement being that whatever is on the page relates to or represents what they are thankful for. We stuck in some more blank pages, so we can add more later as we are inspired.

The kids each got to pick a color for the front and back covers. The older did the words, the younger did the drawings. We punched holes, added brads, all signed the masterpiece and voila! A Family Gratitude Book.

Not only a wonderful way to spend part of our Thanksgiving Day, but a precious keepsake, and, I trust, a new family tradition as well. We will be sharing this book with family all weekend long and inviting them to add to it as well. And of course, it can be done any day! Every day bears its own gifts if we just open the package.

Today we focused mainly on what we are thankful for in our current lives (now), but we could also include wonderful memories (past) and gratitude for all the blessings on the way! (future)

Alternative for Couples: You can also do this as a Couple’s Gratitude Book or Journal, a beautiful way to show appreciation and deepen connection. So few marriages last or are happy, as we all know, and I am blessed to have a deliriously, deLIGHTfully ecstatic marriage, 12 years strong and better every day. One of the reasons is of course, the selection of the right mate; but in order to do so, we had to do the necessary self-healing and inner preparation to bring whole, healthy individuals to the relationship. Much of this work is presented in my book: The Radical Self-Love Workbook. But it is also essential to nurture even the best of relationships, and my husband and I do so daily in many creative ways such as this.

More tips on love and relationships are at

and at my love blog: loveandspiritblog.wordpress.com.

Whether you do the Gratitude Book as a homemade book like we did today, like a scrapbook or journal, and whether you do it as a family activity or a couple’s relationship-enhancer, it will help you see your life through the eyes of love and gratitude, and bring you even closer with those you love. Enjoy! And I welcome you to send me a comment or email to share your experience.

#5: Honor the 4 Directions and 4 Sacred Elements:

Earth, Air, Fire, Water

You do not have to be Native American to appreciate one of their traditions, which is to honor the Medicine Wheel, facing each of the four directions, thanking each one for their gifts. This is also a tradition in all indigenous cultures including pre-Christian Europe (a.k.a. Wicca, Druidry, paganism, et al.), Africa, Australia, Hawaii and South America.

In fact, if you scratch the surface beneath contemporary religions on any part of the Earth, you will find an ancient shamanic tradition that honors all the directions and all of nature as sacred.

All things follow this cycle of birth, growth, fruition and quietude, whether we are looking at seasons, a lifespan, a day, or a garden. The beauty of Medicine Wheel ceremony and the paradigm itself is that it can be applied to our lives in so many ways.

So how do you honor the directions and elements, to give thanks for what they give to us so generously? Here are a few ideas:

* Altar: Create an altar to each direction or a Medicine Wheel altar encompassing all the directions/elements. This can be in your home or outside. My husband specializes in creating Medicine Wheels as a sacred practice on the land, and has helped others to do this as well.

* Cherokee Dance of Life – You would need to learn this in person from someone who has learned it, oral tradition. This is an incredible moving meditation to all 4 directions, peoples, and elements which also honors Mother Earth and Father Sky, balances their energies as sacred partners in our hearts, and helps us give away the gifts of Spirit that are our special medicine to share with the world through our right work and service. Occasionally my husband and I share this Dance with our community. If you live near Sacramento, and would like to experience this dance, let us know so we can invite you. Or perhaps Spirit will guide you to another teacher of this beautiful tradition.

* Drum, chant, play flute to each direction

* Give offerings such as cornmeal, tobacco or sage smoke to each direction

* Speak aloud from your heart to each direction and give thanks

* Sweat lodge

* Vision quest

If you do either sweat lodge or vision quest, please do so with the guidance of a Native elder to be sure you do it properly and safely.

* Journal or journey (shamanic meditation) to discover what power animals comprise your personal Medicine Wheel of your own energy field. I love to lead these meditations when I am called to do so. Honoring your own inner Medicine Wheel supports a strong aura and keeps you connected to your spirit guides, if this resonates for you.

Associations with Each Direction

Depending on which culture or even which tribe you consult, there are somewhat different associations with the directions, colors, elements and meanings, the medicine or power that direction helps us receive and embody. The one I am most familiar with follows but this is not dogma, merely a summary of what I have found to be the more universal associations. Follow your own heart and work with any spiritual practice in the way that resonates for your own heart and inner truth.

While I have a small amount of native blood, I was adopted and was not raised in that tradition. I discovered shamanism after my initiation and spiritual awakening 15 years ago. I do not claim to be a tribal elder or teacher of any one tradition. I am an interfaith minister, meditation teacher, hypnotherapist, energy healer and intuitive life coach. I have been on the path of Spirit, studying, practicing and sharing healing and wisdom teachings from many cultures for several decades, so I offer here a simplified summary as a starting point for your discovery journey. You would do well to study more in depth with a local teacher steeped in the particular tradition that calls to your spirit, and of course feel free to research further on the Web, in books, classes, and listen to your own inner guidance. I always say the best way to pray, do ceremony or ritual is the way that feels best to you, with harm to none, of course. But we do need to honor the specific traditions so they are not all diluted through multiculturalism.

From the East we have the yellow people (Asia) and the gift of Air, Brother Wind, clarity of vision, inspiration, the new day, new beginnings, establishment of purpose and intention, and springtime.

From South, we receive the wisdom of the black people (Africa), Fire. The tools, strength, perseverance and energy to follow through and manifest, midday/ noon, summer, also humor and passion, innocence and trust.

The West gives us the culture of the Red people (such as Native Americans), the setting sun, Water, emotions, the fall season, self-evaluation toward completion, looks-within time, peace, rest and healing.

And the North represents the White (European) people and all their cultural gift. The sacred mountain, winter, midnight, time to slow down, go within and be still to receive guidance for what comes next. Completion, what you keep from the past cycle and all that you have accomplished and learned. It is also associated with the Spirit and wisdom.

Note: You can also honor the other 3 directions: Earth (below), Sky (above) and Center (within).

I hope you enjoyed these five creative ways to give thanks and I wish you abundant blessings on your journey!

Finally, in the spirit of Sufi mystic poet Rumi, I invite you to kiss the ground. Blow kisses to the sky. Bow to everything. Everything is sacred.

With Love,

Today, Thanksgiving Day, we honor cooperation, peace, sharing, support, gratitude and giving.

But do we truly honor these ideals if we nurture them but one day a year? Do we truly honor these ideals if we don’t put them into practice on a daily basis?

Truth be told, our thanks are hollow if we do not choose love, sharing and cooperation every day in every decision we make in our lives.

To truly honor the ideals of Thanksgiving and to be consistent with the principles of love and peaceful coexistence, it would behoove us to do more than simply praise and celebrate the symbology one day a year.

Were we to do this, were each of us to choose to be grateful for what we’ve got and to share our blessings with others less fortunate on a daily basis, we would generate an abundance of joy and love in our lives that would help transform this sick, decaying world we’ve toxified and corrupted.

That being said, let’s make a resolution to give thanks not just today but everyday, and to find some way, everyday, to make the world brighter and better for one of our fellow travelers.

Hello again, brothers and sisters!!!

Before we get into today’s discussion, I just want to briefly say “thank you” to those of you who have been regularly taking part in these discussions, as well as those of you who visit whenever you are able. I would also like to thank all of our first-time visitors. It is a blessing and a genuine pleasure to have you all here:-)

For today’s discussion, we will review the parables of the treasure and the goodly pearl. While these two parables were a couple of the shorter parables that Jesus shared, they are certainly just as important as all of the other parables. Jesus was speaking with His disciples when He shared these parables. The parables are as follows:

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” – Matthew 13:44-46 (KJV)

Both of these parables are making the same point, right? Let’s break them down, shall we?

The man seeking treasure, and the merchant-man seeking goodly pearls, are played in real life by sinners seeking the truth, redemption, and salvation. The treasure hiding in the field and the goodly pearl, represent the kingdom of God found through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is also the Living Word of God. So with that being the case, why would we have to sell all that we have in order to buy our way into the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ? Doesn’t that run contrary to salvation being a gift given freely by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior? It sure does. however, the point of these parables is not that we are “buying” our way into the kingdom of God.

The point is that once we have discovered the kingdom of heaven by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we should value nothing else as much as this “treasure/goodly pearl”. Beloved, when we find the kingdom of heaven through Jesus Christ and His word, we should value the Lord, His word, and His kingdom above anything else in our lives. As obedient and faithful servants, there should be no price we are unwilling to pay in order to serve Him completely. If we live in complete submission to the Lord’s will, then there is no room for competing interests. Just as with the Apostle Paul, all former things we held dear we must be willing to count as lost once we are saved. Why? Well, once we are saved, serving the Lord is to be the focal point of our lives, and our vision is to be focused like a laser on doing so.

Interestingly, in these two parables that Jesus Christ shared with us we can also Him as the man/merchant-man seeking the treasure/goodly pearls. Think about it. Jesus gave up all that He had and suffered death on the cross in order to pay our sin debt. In so doing, beloved, we were saved and purchased by His blood. The treasure being “hid” in the field refers to those who live in Christ being granted access to the kingdom of heaven, which is a place that someone who serves sin cannot find or gain access to. Once we belong to Christ, He protects us from the enemy. We are effectively “hidden” in His protection, as once we belong to Christ Jesus, we cannot be snatched away from Him. As Jesus said:

“I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of My sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.” – John 10:25-30 (KJV)

Brothers and sisters, let us rejoice that the Lord considers us His “treasure/goodly pearl” and was willing to pay everything in order to save us!!! Praise God!!! Thank you, Jesus!!! Furthermore, let’s praise the Lord God Almighty for His lovingkindness and longsuffering, and let’s show Him that He is the only real treasure that matters to us, as well!!! Beloved, do you know what the word of God, the truth, salvation, entrance to the kingdom of heaven, light, love, peace, life, faith, wisdom, and understanding all have in common? I’ll tell you what. We find and receive all these things when we find Christ and turn our lives over to Him. Jesus is the Truth. Jesus is the Living Word of God. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Jesus is the Author and Finisher/Perfector of our faith. He is the Way to the Father and the kingdom of heaven. Jesus Christ is the Life. The Lord is the Light of the world. You get the point, yes?

Beloved, besides the praise we offer to the Lord in the form of prayer, song, and worship, we need to commit ourselves to praise Him through our lives and actions. That we belong to Christ Jesus should be obvious to all not just by the words we speak, but also by the things we do. It should not appear to others that we live for money, or for the approval of man; rather it should be clear to all that we live to serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Just as Jesus paid for us by giving up all that He had for our sakes, we ought to esteem our treasure, found in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, above any passing “treasure” that this world has to offer. Remember, beloved, the treasure of this world lasts for a limited amount of time and diminishes. The treasure of the Lord is forever. Suffer any necessary hardships, persecutions, or trials in this world in order to serve the Lord obediently and faithfully. By so doing, your treasure in heaven will be waiting for you, and increasing, and will be with you forever:-)

Beloved, the Lord will always provide for, and take care of, those entrusted to Him. It is, however, up to each one of us to make the decision to seek the Lord and His kingdom. If we are willing to walk through the thorns, rats, mice, and bugs, and other treacheries of the field in order to find Him, then we will find that our “treasure” is more than worth the jouney. Remember, beloved, hidden treasure only has value to us once we find it. In order to find it, we must seek it. As Jesus said:

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

Precious one, we cannot claim hidden treasure that is never discovered, because we have no idea where it is. Once we seek and find our treasure in Christ Jesus, however, we have the greatest treasure of all. This is real treasure. Everything other treasure pursued yields only fools gold. So often we allow the cares of this world to distract us from searching for our hidden treasure. Jesus was telling us not to get consumed/wrapped up in the concerns of this world. He was telling us that we should put our whole focus on seeking the Lord and His will. We can do so while not being overwhelmed with thoughts of what we will eat, where we will live, or what we will clothe ourselves with, because God will see to our needs just as He does with the birds of the air and the grass of the field.

Please pray for all those who have no idea of the hidden treasure available to them. Let’s pray that they go searching for it, willing to brave the trials of the journey, in order to find the only treasure that really counts. Furthermore, let’s pray that once they find that treasure, they see Him for who He really is and turn their lives over to Him as their Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ is our treasure.

If you are ready to discover your hidden treasure, and claim your eternal inheritance from the Lord God Almighty, you can do so by accepting Him as your Lord and Savior today. If you would like to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior today, and be saved, please pray the following prayer with me:

“Lord God Almighty, I know that I am a sinner and that I am lost. I know that I need to be saved from sin, but I also know that I can’t save myself. Lord Jesus, I know that only You can save me. I know that you paid for my salvation with your own life and blood on the cross. I know that when You rose from the grave on the third day, you conquered death and provided everlasting life to all who trust in You. Right now, I lay down my life and let go of my pride, my vanity and every other sin that has kept me from You. Lord Jesus, I now completely trust my life to You. I open my heart to You, Lord. Please come into my heart. Please forgive me of all of my sins, and please accept me as Your child. From this point on, I commit my life to You. Please guide me and provide me strength as I begin to live the rest of my life for You. In Your precious and matchless name I pray. Amen.”

Beloved, if you just prayed that prayer sincerely, then you just found your hidden treasure. I would encourage you to find out what’s all in the treasure chest by exploring it through God’s word, through prayer with supplication and thanksgiving to the Lord, and by asking Him to reveal the fullness of the treasure to you. The treasure you have, precious one, is priceless. God set aside this treasure just for you through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Welcome to the family:-) The angels in heaven are rejoicing this very moment at your decision to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Find out about this and much more by exploring God’s word that He had written just for you:-) This relationship with Christ is the most precious and important relationship you will ever have. Invest yourself in growing the relationship as much as possible. Seek the Lord’s will in all things, and let your will be completely surrendered to Him.

Thank you for joining our discussion today. I hope you are able to join us on Friday to pray over this week’s prayer requests.
