'SKID MARKS'

An 18 year old man has told Northern Territory Police – two Irish Backpacker’s stole his Toyota Hilux Ute and then crashed it at the site of Darwin’s War Memorial.

The teenager reported the theft at the Darwin City Police Station just after mid-night. According to Superintendent John Emeny, the man told Officers: “Whilst he got out to have a cigarette  … two Irish backpackers jumped into his vehicle and drove off causing it to roll.”

But under further questioning by Officers at the scene of the crash, the teenager admitted he had made the story up. He told Police the crash occurred while he was doing donuts on the grassy area in-front of the Cenotaph, at the Eastern end of Darwin’s Esplanade. The right-hand side front wheels dug into the dirt at one stage and a shift in weight caused the Ute to roll onto its side.

'FILLING THE GAPS'

Darwin City Council workers spent several hours repairing the damage to the grass, filling in ‘wheel-rut’ marks left by the speeding car. 40 metres from the Cenotaph, the grassy area is used to seat the thousands of people who attended the Bombing of Darwin, ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day Celebrations each year.

Darwin Lord Mayor Graeme Sawyer believes the damage to the Cenotaph was limited because the ground is still hard, just weeks away from the wet season. But Mr Sawyer is appalled by the behaviour of the teenager, considering the significance of the area. “You’d have to be pretty stupid wouldn’t ya … obviously alcohol played a part. But just the attitude of someone who’d do something like this”.. The Lord Mayor said.

 The 18 year old recorded a blood alcohol level of one point six three – more than three times the legal limit. Police have also impounded the teenager’s Ute for 48 hours, using new Northern Territory anti-hooning legislation.

As a non-driver, I shouldn’t be your first choice person to advise you on the Australian vehicular culture. After all, I shared with you about a bogan ute, but it’s actually a B&S ute.

Standard sedans don’t usually (even vaguely) resemble Batmobiles, so I’m assuming/presuming (I don’t know the difference; yes, I’m dim) this is a hoon car. I redacted the licence plate, but I can tell you it was a personalised one, with a Z in place of an S, and no apostrophe. All this put together leads me to believe the owner is a tosser. (Yes, Wikipedia explains everything better than I can – read and learn, kids.) Bruce Wayne was a tosser, wasn’t he? Batman or not, a tosser is still a tosser…

Project7 was to create an ad for our client, Rafael, Johely and Min Woo.

Their company sells a special watch with a wonderful function such as Agenda Schedule, Message Service, Bluetooth and of course, it shows the time.

Target: Both gender, Over 25 years old, Wealthy person

“Mistakes? I made a few!” Ha, well tonight is no exception. However, if the target of my error was alert and not intoxicated he would havey actually hit me. A crowd of 6 turned up wanting access. I allowed the first lady in without checking her ID, because I am familiar with her. Reading back through my blog, she was the one providing oral fellatio to a male patron in the car park. The male trialling behind her was not familiar so I asked for his ID. No problems, except it was expired. Considering that the licensing authority has been through many times checking for this, I was not about to let this one fly by. I told him it was expired and he could not enter unless he had a current license.

He did not appreciate the ruling and gave immediate threats of harm towards me. My bouncing partner was standing behind me and told him to calm down. This gave me some time to prepare for the impending stoush. I signalled to his girlfriend to come back to the door and explained the situation. With much bravado and fanfare on his side they departed slowly and awkwardly.

On reflection and writing notes for the report, I realised his ID didn’t expiry for another 2 hours. He could have come through if he was sober enough to realise…

How is this! A male who has been barred for fighting and offensive behaviour turned up. He turned up intoxicated, driving a unregistered, uninsured vehicle without a drivers licence and did the ‘hoon’ burnout in front of the venue. Needless to say, the local law enforcement officers were advised.

Another party of 6 turned up. This was a clear mix of boys and girls. All presented their ID’s without prompting except one woman who remained coy. They finished their smokes and began entering. Miss Coy fronted up quickly with her ID and went to move past trying to keep up with the crowd. Hers was clearly expired, clearly her sister’s and she was clearly underage. I told her she can not gain access. Her party turned around and came back outside except for one girl. She attempted to draw my attention by being crass and lifting her skirt. The rest of her party egged her on and encouraged me to look. But if you have been a long time reader you would already know, I seen my fair share. Without gaining any reaction they moved on.

Hoon and Miyuki completed their project; Advertising to Children while following the Canadian rules for advertising aimed at children. They very successfully attracted attention to their work and had more than twice as many visits to their project as the the next runner up. Congratulations to them. You can view their project here.

 Project 4 is to make a poster, with a partner, for kids following the Canadian rules.

We made poster about the science festival for children.
We colored the title with rainbow to be friendly to children and their parents, also we tried using a font that theywould like.
If you want to know about HUBO, it’s a humanoid robot which was made by Kaist university in Korea.
We were supposed to make it simple and clear.

I got the idea to create a brochure-like poster about myself. I thought that way, my ideas would be a surprise. Hope you like it.

This man. The first time I had ever heard of him was on freaking Colbert Report – that was sometime last year. Even then I wasn’t so impressed. I simply remember saying to myself, “holy shit Stephen Colbert is singing in Korean.” How did Rain beat Colbert by over 100,000 votes on Time’s online poll for most influential person?! I shaketh my angered fist!

Fast forward to September 2009. I’m on Youtube rewatching Colbert clips and I see the dance off segment again – what the hell? I need some info on this guy. An unknown Korean pop star on the Colbert Report is just too weird. I proceed to search for Rain videos. Hmm, music videos, interviews, tv shows, game shows – oh what’s this?

Rainism.

Wh-what is this. What is this dance. I’m hypnotized by the movement of his shiny hair, flipping to the beat of the song. Why.

Why.

I was never much for the Asian pop craze. It can be a bit too shallow, a bit too blah, and a bit too beyond me. So what is it with this Rain character? I must look into it!

Looking up information on him, I find that he’s immensely popular in the East. Not just in all of Korea, but in China, Japan, Vietnam, etc, etc. In Asia, it’s not uncommon for a star originating from one country to have fans in another, but this guy – there’s probably not one person there that hasn’t heard of his name. Curiouser and curiouser.

I go through videos of interview after interview and what I saw completely shocked me. The guy is totally down to earth, polite, shy, and charming. ::scrolls back up to rewatch Rainism video:: (There is a squiggly red line under the word “Rainism.” WordPress is lyk, wtf.)

The guy I’m seeing in these interviews is not the same guy in the aviator shades and fur collared white suit. What is going on?!

I can attempt to go through my nonstop shifting of thoughts and emotions on the man named Rain throughout the next couple of days as I watched and read more about him, but that’s just too confusing to deal with. In the end it came down to two things: he is amazing and I am bewitched. As a person he is totally sweet; his smile makes him look like a 15 year old. As a performer he is an absolute entertainer; he does things with his arms and legs that make my eyes bulge.

And I’ve just discovered him?! When did he first come out? ::checks:: 2002?!

How old is he now? ::checks:: 27?! Gyaaaah!

In any case, to end things quick, Rain has sparked a brand new obsession in me: Asian boys.
