Cornell’s Dance Department features the class Hip-Hop, Hollywood, and Home Movies: Exploring Movement and Media, incorporating home video production.

This course is a laboratory for generating and exploring contemporary dance forms. Monday sessions are devoted to viewing media and discussion. We will be looking at early B-boy films, recent dance-battle documentaries, classic dance clips from Hollywood films, and other related pieces (Black Dance, Show Dance, Art Dance). Wednesday is a laboratory for trying out movements and creating simple dance/music videos (home-movies). This course will be of special value for choreographers using popular dance forms and those interested in the history of popular culture. Everyone must be willing and able to improvise dance moves, teach classmates and exchange movement ideas.

Dupa cum probabil stiti, daca sunteti interesati, saptamana trecuta a aparut ultimul album al lui Puya, Romanisme II, lansat la pretul de 9 lei impreuna cu Gazeta Sporturilor. Prima parte din acest album a aparut pe la inceputul anului, nu stiu cat de bine a fost primit de altii, dar mie mi-a lasat o suma de impresii amestecate. In general imi place stilul hip-hop, La Familia (trupa din componenta careia facea partea si Puya), a reusti sa scoata niste melodii foarte bune in timp si au avut niste colaborari de exceptie. Dar Puya se pare ca a decis sa se rupa de imaginea de “borfas”, de “baiat de cartier”, o imagine pe care acum 6-10 ani, in “aburii” tineretii o preaslavea, si pentru care parea ca e in stare sa moara. Dar la ce a ajuns acum transforma “borfasul” de alta data, intr-un snob in devenire. Textele sunt cam aceleasi, se ia de aceleasi stereotipuri, pe care cu siguranta le vedem cu totii, dar pe care unii cred ca le pun in evidenta daca vorbesc despre ele.

Personal consider ca Puya a luat-o la propriu in jos, in momentul in care a scos “muzica de tolaneala & depravare”, in esenta un album semi-bun, cu piese mobilizatoare, moralizatoare, dar si cu unele melodii de-a dreptul penibile care dau pe afara de “comercial”. De pe acel album ascult si acum cu placere melodiile “Ceva firesc”, “Totu’ pentru bani” si “Poveste trista”. Pentru mine erau cu adevarat bune, spuneau ceva, in ele vedeai lucrurile de pe strada, spuse obiectiv, sau subiectiv, dar spuse, si spuse de un “baiat de cartier” care inca mai crede ca poate schimba ceva. Apoi am vazut ca lanseaza “Romanisme”, cu piesa “Undeva-n balcani” indelung promovata pe la TV sau radio. Dar dupa lansarea albumul m-a dezamagit mai mult decat ma puteam astepta. Exceptand “Undeva-n Balcani”, care mai iese in evidenta, de pe acel album nu as mai recomanda decat “Merita un Oscar”, dar nici asta prea mult, iar restul pieselor, nu merita nici 5 lei, sunt doar texte penibile, de “comercial” bazate pe mixurile Dj-ului si pentru care doar numele mai impresioneaza.

Nu am ascultat “Romanisme II”, poate nici nu-l voi asculta, nu mai ai ce sa asculti de la cantareti care fac niste rime la minut, apoi baga un clip frumos post-produs, si gata, in 1, 2, 3 pasi a iesit “o minunatie” de album. Multi comenteaza ca Mafia nu a scos decat un album in 3 ani, si ala doar remixuri, o singura piesa fiind noua. Da, asa e, dar Mafia chiar spunea si inca spune ceva prin fiecare melodie. Daca luam la “scuturat” intregul “Romanisme”, ce mai ramane de el? Doar numele Puya mai ramane.

Acum se pare ca nici La Familia nu sta mai bine, un proiect ce trebuia sa fie gata anul asta sau cel tarziu la anu’, este tot mai amanat, ba de Puya, ba de Sisu. Si ultimul cui din sicriul albumului “Romanisme” e tot la adresa lui Puya. Se pare ca “Undeva-n Balcani” a fost inclus pe coloana sonora a serialului “State de Romania” de la ProTV. Nu ar fi nimic, ba chiar un lucru bun ca interpret sa fii apreciat asa. Dar nemultumirea mea reiese din declaratia lui Puya “ma bucur ca melodia mea a fost pusa pe coloana sonora a serialului”. De ce nemultumire? Pentru ca, daca tin minte bine, acum 10 ani, La Familia, Puya, prin “Tupeu de borfas” si pana acum 4-5 ani, era promovata ideea ca ei nu accepta “turma” din zilele noastre, si vor sa fie ceva nou, sa innoate contra curentului. Serialul cu State, pentru orice alt rapper, hip-hoper ar fi un afront, o jignire la adresa muncii lor, daca o melodie le-ar fi pusa pe coloana sonora. Dar Puya pare ca a uitat ce zicea acum un deceniu, mai nou apare in reclame la Vodafone, e baiatul de societate, apare pe la TV, sau prin diferite proiecte.

Mafia, Parazitii sau CIA nu au succes pentru ca ar stii sa cucereasca publicul prin metode subconstienta, practici hipnotice pe albumuri sau la concerte, ci pur si simplu nu se dezic de la mesajul cu care au pornit la drum. Parazitii (a se citi “trupa Parazitii”) e la fel de obscena, de jignitoare pentru mentalitatile defect; Mafia e la fel de legata de Pantelimon, sau de baietii de cartier; iar CIA inca sunt in Craiova, cu rele cu bune, inca vor romanii pentru ca au acelasi sange, nu pentru ca e la moda.
Cum bine spunea un prieten, “Puya nu mai canta hip-hop, acum parca ar canta hop-hop“.

Here goes a quick freestyle from 1/4th of the Slaughterhouse crew. You remember them, the ones that made a surprising cameo during Eminem’s verse in the “Forever” video. Soon after rumors began to hit the internet saying Slaughterhouse is signing to Shady, but thats all it was rumors. You know how crazy these internets can get. Anyway in a recent interview with MTV Royce hinted to the fact that there maybe a Slaughterhouse/Shady partnership in the works.  Royce’s “Street Hop” album is coming October 20th.

These words weren’t to be taken seriously, but apparently many people have taken the lyrics to Lil Wayne’s song “Every Girl,” literally. Video bloggers and even rappers have expressed their opion about the performance that took place towards the end of the BET awards.

Videos have surfaced calling the performance a sexual exploitation of children. Rapper Joe Budden expressed his thoughts about the situation on his Twitter page.

“Think about it, if they DID get their wish & f_cked evry girl n the world, not only would they get evry STD, but they’d b f_uckin relatives! (Joe Budden’s Twitter page)“

Drake recently apologized for his performance at the BET awards saying

“It was just timed very poorly and it definitely wasn’t planned like that, but with that being said, it is what is. I believe in Wayne and myself and it’s nothing we can’t bounce back from. To anyone who was offended, my personal apologies, it wasn’t intended to offend anybody” (AHH).

Lil Wayne has not responded to the comments as of press time.

Gran bella giornata quella di oggi, passata interamente con mia cugina detta “Anima Longa” perchè è alta, snella e bella. La mattina siamo andati a Napoli a fare shopping, ovvio che io non ho comprato nulla ma ho visto un lato della città a me ancora sconosciuto. Ne ho respirato il traffico, le urla ed i clackson, la tranquillità delle vie del centro… Isole pedonali per gente desiderosa di pace…

Contrariamente a come mi potevo aspettare, la città risulta pulita, e tutti portano il casco… Ovvio che poi la delinquenza c’è anche qui… Ma c’è anche a Milano, Venezia e Torino… Noi abbiamo camminato per chilometri, in vie grandi e vie piccole, e nessuno ci ha rotto i coglioni… Tanto che non me ne volevo più andare… Volevo conoscere la Napoli di notte, mia cugina mi avrebbe portato in diversi locali, ma eravamo impegnati per la ser, festa a sorpresa peri 40 anni di mio cugino!!!

La festa si è svolta in un’osteria avellinese, che a vederla da fuori non gli dai tre lire, ma appena entri rimani stupito dall’armonia creata dallo stile rustico e moderno minimalista dell’ambiente. Buffet di antipasti tipici della zona, vino a volontà e tante risate fatte per il figlio di mio cugino, un piccolo genio dell’hip-hop… A tre anni balla la break e fa le spaccate! YEAH!

Finita la festa io ed “Anima Longa” abbiamo girato fino alle 4 del mattino per i bar avellinesi…

Tags darauf standen Sue und Morth gegen zwölf Uhr auf und gönnten sich ein ausgiebiges Katerfrühstück. Dabei lachten sie über Marlies, die sich wenige Stunden zuvor beim Versuch den DJ anzubaggern in dessen Plattenkiste übergeben hatte. „Vielleicht sollte ich das alles einmal aufschreiben,“ meinte Morth, als sie sich wieder beruhigt hatten. „So was glaubt einem kein Mensch. Mal lieber weiter Deine Bilder,“ blockte Sue ab. Morth betrachtete sie. Sie sah, so wie sie ihm da gegenüber saß, fertig aber bezaubernd aus. Außer einem alten Trikot aus seiner Kleiderkiste hatte sie nicht am Leib und wenn sein Kopf nicht so gehämmert hätte, hätte er alles versucht, sofort wieder mit ihr im Schlafzimmer zu verschwinden. Sue lächelte ihn zerknittert an. Sie konnte seine Gedanken erraten.

Über der ganzen Szene lag tiefe Harmonie und Morth fragte sich, wozu er irgend etwas anderes brauchte. In diesem Moment wünschte er sich, dass er hier mit Sue lange, lange würde sitzen können.

Es war ihm nicht ergönnt. Fast gleichzeitig läutete das Telefon und die Türklingel. Sue verschwand im Bad. Sehnsüchtig schaute Morth ihr auf den nackten Hintern, nahm noch einen Schluck Kaffee und trottete zur Tür. Derweil schaltete sich der Anrufbeantworter ein.

Till hatte Morth zu einem spontanen Ausflug ins Grüne einladen wollen. Mit Verweis auf seinen Zustand lehnte Morth dankend ab, obwohl es selten genug vor kam, dass Till seinen Arsch hoch bekam und ihn besuchte. Der Freund machte sich enttäuscht davon.

Morth hörte den Anrufbeantworter ab. Eine völlig aufgelöste Gabriele Gabler hatte schon mehrere Nachrichten hinter lassen. Die letzte, gerade aufgesprochene war über deutlich: „So geht das nicht, mein Lieber. Wenn wir etwas bewegen wollen, sollten sie bereit sein, zu arbeiten. Ich brauche dringend die Bilder für die Ausstellung. Zumindest eine Liste mit den Titeln, die Größen und die Preise, die Ihnen vorschweben. Also hop hop! Und übrigens: Stiefer sucht Sie auch schon.“ Click. „Scheiße,“ dachte Morth trocken.

Stiefer klang versöhnlich, aber bestimmt: „Sie müssen heute, spätestens morgen nach New York. Fuller hat da ein paar Leutchen aufgetan. Die würde sogar ich noch gern kennen lernen. Mann, es geht richtig ab mit Ihnen! Wollen wir uns eigentlich langsam mal duzen? Mika! Aber meine Freunde nennen mich Cronos.“ „Viktor,“ sagte Morth. „Also gut, Viktor,“ fuhr Stiefer fort, „anstoßen können wir darauf ein andermal. Der Flieger geht um fünf oder morgen früh um halb neun. Such Dir was aus!“ „Ich fürchte so schnell wird das nichts,“ wich Morth aus. „Die Gabler braucht noch ein paar Bilder von mir für die Ausstellung.“ „Scheiß auf die Gabler.“ Stiefer schrie fast, Morth ließ vor Schreck den Hörer fallen und angelte ihn an der Schnur wieder zu sich herauf. „…wichtiger als sie ist. Was willst Du eigentlich mehr als New York, Vik? Ich darf Dich doch Vik nennen? Also keine Diskussion, brech die Zelte ab, schnapp Deine Lady und auf geht’s! Good luck, Vik.” “O.k.”, sagte Morth. “Wir fliegen morgen früh.”

Sue kam aus der Dusche und war überrascht. Morth saß auf Boden im Flur, er schien zu weinen. Sie setzte sich neben ihn. „Warum weinst Du?,“ flüsterte sie. Morth bemühte sich um ein Lächeln und erklärte es ihr.
