You are now re-entering the Twilight Zone
We are reportedly getting to return to the Twilight Zone. Variety reports: Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way are moving ahead on a “Twilight Zone” movie, hiring Rand Ravich to pen a script based on the iconic TV series, which melded fantasy, science-fiction and horror elements.
Studio first set up the project with the Warner-based shingle a year ago.

Ravich’s feature credits include directing “The Astronaut’s Wife” and exec producing “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.” He also created NBC’s detective series “Life.”
This does not bother, actually I’m a bit happy about it. I loved the Spielberg/Landis version from the 80’s, I still sit by the wing of the plane to look out for gremlins. Hey can’t be too careful,

Children of the Corn remake comes to SyFy

US cable network SyFy is set to air a TV adaptation of Stephen King’s horror Children of the Corn.
This comes as the NBC Universal-owned network announces its latest fall schedule, which also includes a number of original TV movies including Eliza Dushku-fronted film Open Graves, WST Productions’ Lightning Strikes featuring Andromeda’s Kevin Sorbo and Matador Pictures’ Book of Blood, written by horror guru Clive Barker, who wrote films including Hellraiser and Candyman.
Children of the Corn, which is produced by Fox TV Studios and Starz-owned Anchor Bay Entertainment will air in September and will star Heroes’ David Anders, Dexter’s Preston Bailey and Battlestar Galactica’s Kandyse McClure. It will be directed by Donald P Borcher, who was a producer on the original feature film.
I must be in a kinder place today, because this does not bother me either, it could be as good as the original, which honestly wasn’t that great in the first place.

So, she’s a shapeshifter. Daphne is a deer changing shapeshifter bad waitress. Good one, Alan Ball. This is completely not book 2, which is kind of the running theme of last night’s show in my opinion. I feel like the book Dead in Dallas is a part of the witness protection program because the names and events have all been changed so much. Anyway, Daphne is just like Sam, but I still don’t trust her.

Can we get a few more scenes with Terry? I really like his character, he makes me smile. And apparently he makes Arlene smile as well. Or, he did out in those woods at Tara’s party. Sookie decides to not only annoy us, but she starts virtually stalking Barry the Bellhop telepath as well. Barry tells Sookie the vamps of Dallas are badass and he has no desire to share his gift with them or her for that matter. Alright I REALLY have to ask, what in the Twilight is going on with all these sappy sweet syrup moments between Sookie and Bill? I don’t know if it’s just me, but it’s gotten way over the top with we’re in love jazz. We get it, move on. For some reason that escapes me, Sookie doesn’t know what a continental breakfast consists of and that it’s free. Really She was kind of over annoying to me in this episode.

Back in Bon Temps, Tara wakes up from her night of birthday sex and starts reflecting on her sad little life and how Mrs. Stackhouse was kind of the only mother figure she ever had. Awww, I too miss her and those delicious looking breakfast she always made. In Dallas, Stupid Hot is having his first day at Vampire Slayer Bootcamp. I mean seriously, has it occurred to Jason that this “camp” is full of the crazy. But he forges on anyway, trying to be the best he can be. Simper Vamp, I guess.

One more time, I still do not trust Daphne and I love the way Arlene of the bad red wig absolutely hates her. That makes me happy. Maryann also started to show her full crazy, by announcing that she, Eggs and the servant dude would like to move into Stackhouse manor. Tara of course protested, she after all is a visitor as well, this lead to an argument with Eggs, who did little in my opinion to explain the ”relationship” between he and Maryann. We’re a family, is not cutting it, hot abs. We’re gonna need a little more than that.

We get our introduction to Stan and Isabel in this episode, who looks absolutely nothing like the characters from the book. I mean Stan was like unber-nerd in the book, but instead we got a Stetson wearing hot dude from Eureka. Ok, maybe that’s the consolation because Chow in the book hot, Chow on tv, not. Anyway, Stan does not agree with Eric’s plan to find the missing Godric. But Sookie agrees to go undercover at the church to do so. I just wanted her to take her clothes off and throw them away. Did you see her in that red disaster of an outfit? What the hell?

Meanwhile, Jason excels at being vampire slayer solider of the year and gets rewarded by Sara in a “real hands on” kind of way. At Marlotte’s Maryann puts a spell on everyone making them all turn on Tara, which of course makes her decides she needs her little family around afterall. Most importantly last night we got glorious Eric’s back-story. It seems Godric “made” Eric the Viking, Eric the Vampire years ago. He reveals this fact to Bill, so now I’m all about Godric as well. I really want to see more of this character. I can’t wait to see how he is fleshed out on screen.

Just for good measure Maryann did her best impression of the late Mrs. Stackhouse, right down to the apron. Consoling Tara after her bad night at the bar. I was seriously like damn, Tara wake up and smell the housedress.* BTW, if you haven’t heard, I don’t trust Daphne. Lfayette made a fabulous return to Marlotte’s, but he was really not himself. We ended the episode with more of Bill and Sookie banter, that I wasn’t listening to. Something about love and sex or whatever, and Bill’s maker made her first appearance this season. Uh, oh, Sookie it’s on. *If you don’t know what a housedress is, ask someone southern for a definition

Overall the episode was good, not ground breaking or earth shattering. I would give the episode an 7/10 if I were rating it. Thoughts, groans, moans?
I will leave you guys with these questions for next week’s episode:
Our friend, Lafayette, has changed since his ordeal, will he be this way from now on?
What is the deal with Eggs? Does he know what Maryann is and is he in on the plan?
Will Bill’s maker take Sookie shopping for a cute little maxi dress? Will she stop wearing the June Cleaver 1956 Summer Collection?
What is Daphne’s plan? Why and how did she manage to find Sam?
Will Sister Sara continue to bathe Jason?

This is an interesting read from the LA Times, regarding the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street. I decided to try to not hate this movie’s existence and to ignore my sheer disdain for all things Michael Bay and have faith in Sam Bayer (Smells Like Teen Spirit) and Wesley Strick (Cape Fear). I have liked some of their past work, but this is huge and a sacred franchise to us horror fans and if they f@cked it up, may Freddy come for them.
Welcome to Hollywood’s latest ‘Nightmare’
05:38 PM PT, Jul 13 2009
Everyone knows that there’s often less than six degrees of separation among most celebrities in Hollywood, but if you ever wanted to stump your film-buff friends with a great trivia question, just try this one on for size: What do writer-director Frank Darabont (“The Shawshank Redemption”), Johnny Depp, Peter Jackson, Iggy Pop, writer-director Brian Helgeland (“L.A. Confidential”), Hollywood novelist Bruce Wagner, director Chuck Russell (“The Mask”) and producer Michael De Luca have in common?
They all, at one time or another, worked on one of the films in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” series, the low-budget 1980s horror franchise that transformed New Line Cinema from an obscure store-front film distributor into the movie industry’s leading independent film studio. Having successfully relaunched two other classic franchises — “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and “Friday the 13th” — New Line, now an in-house production company at Warner Bros., is amid rebooting its seminal “Nightmare” series with a new film that just finished shooting in Chicago last Friday.
Using the same title as the original Wes Craven film, it is a revamped, souped-up version of the old series, with Jackie Earle Haley replacing Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, the menacing, disfigured and claw-gloved figure who had the power to stalk and kill his victims from within their own dreams. The film, slated for release in the first half of 2010, also marks another collaboration between New Line and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production firm, which also partnered with New Line on the successful updating of “Chainsaw Massacre” and “Friday the 13th.”
The new film comes with its own set of built-in risks and challenges. The original “Nightmare” series, which was launched in 1984 and ended up — if you count all the sequels and spin-offs — spawning at least eight movies, was a low-budget, low-risk enterprise. All of the original films in the series cost under $8 million to make, with perhaps the most lucrative being 1987′s “Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors,” which cost $5 million and made nearly $45 million at the box office.
But much has changed in the horror movie landscape in the last two decades. The movies have become both more sophisticated, certainly in terms of visual effects, as well as more graphic in terms of “Saw”-like brutality and mayhem. For most of today’s young horror moviegoers, the “Nightmare” series is something of a barely noticeable video store relic. So why does New Line believe it can make lightning strike twice? And what exactly did all those famous folks I mentioned before do for the franchise? Keep reading:
“I just think there’s something incredibly ingenious and universally frightening about Wes Craven’s idea for Freddy Krueger,” said Toby Emmerich, New Line’s production chief. “The ‘Nightmare’ films are profoundly disturbing on a deep, human level because they’re about our dreams. It’s why we thought that we could reach an especially broad audience with a new film, since the feeling of having your dreams being invaded was something that would translate to any country and any culture.”
When Emmerich initially sat down several years ago with New Line founder Bob Shaye and longtime New Line production executive Richard Brenner, the questions everyone asked were: Could we do a new version? And should we do a new version? “And the answer we all had was … ‘Hell, yes,’ ” Emmerich says. “The whole idea was to find a way to reinvent the series and use contemporary filmmaking and storytelling to bring the series into the modern era.”
Emmerich hired Wesley Strick (best known for penning Martin Scorsese’s “Cape Fear”) to write the script for the new film, having been a big fan of a script Strick wrote for a un-produced prequel to “Seven,” the David Fincher thriller that was a huge hit for New Line in the mid-1990s. The studio brought in another writer, Eric Heisserer, who did a rewrite before the studio was ready to move ahead with the project. It has a budget of roughly $27 million, modest by today’s standards but more than the first four “Nightmare” films all put together.
All along, Emmerich relied heavily on Bay’s expertise, especially in terms of key creative choices. The men have not only worked on various New Line film projects together, they went to Wesleyan University, graduating a year apart in the mid-1980s, right after the release of the first “Nightmare” film. Bay was a strong advocate in the hiring of “Nightmare” filmmaker Sam Bayer, a veteran music video and commercials director who despite nearly two decades of experience making rock videos and winning MTV Video Music Awards and Clios has never directed a feature film before. (He is best known for directing Nirvana’s groundbreaking “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” having also directed clips for the likes of the Offspring, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Sheryl Crow, Green Day, the Strokes and Justin Timberlake.)
“Michael was very passionate about Sam,” Emmerich says. “When Michael and David Fincher came up as commercials directors, Sam was the other top young guy in the field — they were the three real hot shots of their era.” Even though Bayer has never managed to launch a film career, being involved with a number of projects that never got off the ground, Bay believed that he had the ability to capture the kind of seductive and unsettling imagery that would make “Nightmare” feel like a fresh, visually arresting moviegoing experience.
Initially, New Line had planned to hire a true unknown to assume the mantel of Freddy. But Emmerich was especially impressed by Haley’s spooky performance in Todd Field’s “Little Children,” an art film that New Line had released in 2006. “I was watching especially closely,” Emmerich says with a grin, “since some of his best scenes in the movie were opposite my brother, Noah. Freddy is this incredible stew of malevolence and anger, but he has also has a hint of vulnerability, and Jackie really has all of that and more — he just seemed completely right for the part.”
The horror movie field has been especially crowded — you might say overcrowded in recent years, with a host of recent films grabbing an increasingly smaller chunk of the box office returns. With so much scary-movie clutter, is it possible that New Line might be coming too late to the party? Emmerich didn’t dodge the issue.
“If we make a good movie and it fails, that will be the reason why — the marketplace was just too crowded,” he acknowledged. “But we think Freddy is the Coca-Cola of the horror market. There’s always a lot of soda pop and vitamin water out there, but there’s always room for Coke. You could say that when it comes to scaring people, Freddy is a pretty beloved brand.”

This contains big time spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode, I am advising you turn back now.**
God will make sure evil gets punished. –
Oh, yeah then explain Europe to me. – Jason Stackhouse.

Uh, what? Stupid Hot was in rare, rare form last night. He just spouted all kinds of dumb all over the place. True Blood’s comeback episode was called, Shake and Fingerpop, and it was definitely an appropriate title. Jason’s bunkmates decided to play a practical joke on him, and let’s just say he went a bit over the top with his reaction. He’s like quoting anti-vamp scriptures now. What is that? Not good, Jason. Meanwhile, Bill also overacts to Jessica and Hoyt’s little make-out session. Good for her. I got say I really like Jessica, I thought she was going to get on my nerves when they first introduced her last season, but she is truly fun to watch.

Speaking of on my nerves, what is the deal with Daphne? I would really like her with Sam if I knew what her true motives are. Tara finally told Maryann that she was moving in with Sookie. Maryann took the news better than I thought she was going to, I really expected her to do that shaking thing she does and bewitch Tara into staying, but she didn’t. We also find out the late Miss Jeanette of bus has the same cravings on her back as Daphne and Sookie. What’s up with that? She was poisoned just like Sookie and I assume Daphne.

Sookie tells Tara about Lafayette’s like situation, making her go to her house and not getting the warmest reception. In fact, he was downright cold. Can that boy turn a phrase or what? Who’s writing his lines? Is he adlibbing them, or does Alan Ball staff have that much flavor, either way I want to speak like Lafayette. Did you hear me hooka’s?

Damn, hooka, shit. – Lafayette Anyhoo, some smaller funnies happened, no one believes drunk Andy when she tells the sheriff Dearborn he has seen Maryann’s pig in a dollhouse nonetheless. Sookie once again had me wanting to slap her, her little selfish conversation with Sam. I mean really girl, move on. Damn, hooka, shit.

And about hooka’s, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. She wants some of Stupid Hot really bad. I’m getting some really bad vibes from the couple in general. I want Stupid Hot to run, and run fast. I mean Soldiers of the Sun, sound bad. The name is ominous for sure. Sookie, Bill and Jessica take off for Dallas. I’m starting to find their little lovefest boring, but I think it’s just me. Lafayette is visited by the hot Viking himself, Eric. For a reason that we know is completely sketchy he offers to allow Lafayette to feed from him to make him all better. And all better it does indeed. Lafayette had a serious burst of energy.

Maryann somehow knows it’s Tara’s birthday and of course she has arranged a hedonistic celebration. This time we got a hot love scene from Tara and Eggs. Hot! I was hoping we would find out what Maryann wants, but no dice. Upon Sookie’s arrival in Dallas, Ball changed the story completely almost, Sookie was almost abducted, but in this version Jessica added much needed comedy relief with Jessica. In Dallas Bill meets with Eric and Jessica orders a hot-tail (a cute boy to feed off) from room service. And just like the book, Sookie meets another telepath.

Overall the episode was really good, I would give the episode an 8/10 if I were rating it. Thoughts, groans, moans?

I will leave you guys with these questions for next week’s episode:

Anyone else think Pastor Newlin actually killed his family and framed the vampires?
How does Daphne know Sam’s little secret?
Did Eric literally fly to Dallas? And what does he really want with Lafayette?
Anyone else thinks Maryann should open a party planning business?
What are the Soldiers of the Sun planning?
What in the yellow country mess was Sookie wearing when she got off that plane?

Ok, so True Blood makes it return tonight. Here’s the skinny on tonight’s episode.

Episode #16: “Shake and Fingerpop”

With Jessica in tow, Bill and Sookie head to Dallas to carry out Eric’s vampire-reconnaissance mission – but a surprise awaits them at the airport. At the Light of Day Institute, Jason falls victim to a practical joke, but has the last laugh when the Newlins anoint him for a higher calling. Maryann throws Tara a birthday party at Sookie’s, attracting much of Bon Temps to its Bacchanalian revelry. Sam postpones his departure from town to attend the bash, connecting with Daphne in the process. Having barely escaped Fangtasia, Lafayette finds himself reluctantly pulled back into Eric’s orbit.

Ok, a few weeks ago I gave away three copies of Silent Venom to people that made comments on certain posts. I was all ready to use this nifty little random selection software, but since I only had three responses the selection process was easy.

In celebration of HorrorFatale.com’s 1-year anniversary on July 15th I will be giving away 2 DVD copies of the original 1980 Prom Night. Why Prom Night you ask? Because it was one of the first horror movies, I ever saw. Yes, I was four when it was released, but in parent’s defense I saw it on cable the next year when I was like five, so there.

Here’s the deal, leave me a comment between now and July 15th telling us the first horror movie you saw and your name goes into the pot to win one of the DVDs. Easy enough right? Happy commenting!

Prom Night (Widescreen Full Screen)
Actor/Actress: Jamie Lee Curtis , Leslie Nielsen , Casey Stevens
Director: Paul Lynch
Jamie Lee Curtis continued her post-’Halloween’ horror streak with this 1980 offering concerning the bloody avenging of the accidental death of a young girl six years later when those responsible are celebrating their prom. Several unrelated sequels followed.

A girl plummets to her death while fleeing from the taunts of four vicious classmates. Years pass: it is now prom night for the children who survived the incident, and someone — or something — is taking vengeance against them for their childhood sin. One by one, they drop.

Back in 1998 Stephen Dorff played the Marvel comic character Deacon Frost in the first Blade movie. Now someone thinks that performance warrants Dorff playing him again, again and again. Can you say Blade prequel trilogy?
Dorff tells the mag (The Sunday Mail), “It will be a prequel to the Blade movies, Deacon’s story. It’s a new trilogy the director has created. It will be cool,” he continues, “We hope to shoot the first film next year. Frost is a character I have never been able to shake.”

I’m actually kind of feeling this, I liked Dorff’s performance well enough. But tell Stephen the reason he can’t shake the character is because that’s the only one people remember. Sorry, dude no one really remembers The Gate. Well, no one but me.

I happen to one of the few people that’s not that impressed with Diablo Cody, I liked the way overrated hype that was Juno well enough and I liked the United States of Tara. But, there is something about Diablo that annoys me. Probably jealousy on my part, I mean how one can supposedly go from the stripper pole to Oscar, seems like <strike>complete and total bullshit</strike>a fairytale.

Anylies, as you man-types have heard sometime soon <strike>Brooke’s</strike> Diablo’s horror movie Jennifer’s Body will be released with the other non-acting type Megan Fox. Here are some images of Meggy in her cheerleading outfit and where she becomes a zombie chick. This movie looks like…if you can’t say something nice then write a blog. Anyway enjoy!

This contains big time spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode, I am advising you turn back now

This contains big time spoilers. If you haven’t watched the episode, I am advising you turn back now.**
First off, if there was a theme for last night’s show, I felt it was Sookie is so stupid. So, very stupid. The episode picked up where the last episode Keep the Party Going ended on the drive home from Sooke’s disastrous journey to Jessica’s house. I’m really starting to enjoy Bill again, mostly I think because he called Sookie a child and he’s calling her out on her flakiness that drove me crazy last season. Sookie’s reaction… she didn’t understand why he was so angry. So, in another immature move she jumps from the car in the middle of the woods.

In the woods Sookie meets a horned creature who immediately proceeds to make hamburger out her back. Now for all us who read the second book we know, Sookie is supposed to be attacked by the Maenad. This is another difference from Ball’s version. Sam makes an attempt to warn Tara that Maryann cannot be trusted. Tara of course blows Sam off. Anyone notice how much better Tara is dressing this season? Did the tank top factory close? Remember last season that’s all she wore. Tank top, after tank top, after tank top. Ignore me, I have issues. Moving on.

Bill immediately takes Sookie to Fangtasia where we find she has been poisoned by the crazy horned creature of the woods. Interestingly enough no one knows what this creature is, but the crotchety dwarf doctor emits some painful cure on Sookie. FYI, Pam has been an absolute joy this season, don’t you guys think? Eric sends Pam and Chow off to the woods to find this creature. Pam, girl, I feel your pain, I hate to see the tragic loss of good shoes as well. Sookie briefly redeemed herself when she brokered the deal to get Lafayette’s freedom. Ok, how do we feel about Eric’s little stroke and wink at Lafayette? I really think I might enjoy a relationship of some sort between the two. Seriously guys think of the joy Lafayette’s banter with a jealous Pam would bring us!

Sam decides he is going to hit the road and asks Terry to look after his bar. Terry is a character we need more of, he’s so wise and yet so crazy. Fun. Meanwhile, at Maryann’s <strike>orgy</strike> party, Tara finally gets out of the perpetual E-hole** she and the rest of the town have been in for the last week. Why do I have a feeling Maryann is not going to let her leave her little hedonistic den so easily? Teen undead Jessica decides to sneak out of the house, after all she is still 17 and that’s what you do at that age. Not me, I was the picture of good at that age, but I’ve heard. While at Marlotte’s she meets Hoyt. Teen vamps hormones and his loneliness get the best of them and they almost do what comes naturally, until Father Bill busts in on them and goes off.

Speaking of hormones, Stupid Hot is still at Camp Smile a Mile, where he is having some serious doubts about the cult. But, Sister Sara makes some illogical speech how vamps are responsible for Renee offing everyone last season. Thinking is Jason’s strong suit so he remains at the vampire hating retreat. Overall, this was another stellar episode; I am enjoying the way upcoming episodes are being set up this season. I would give it an 8/10 if I were rating it. Thoughts, groans and moans? Theories.

I will leave you guys with these questions for next week’s episode:
Will Eric replace Pam’s favorite pumps?
What the hell is up with Daphne the waitress?
Will Lafayette invite Eric into his home? And more importantly, why is Eric visiting his home.
Will Lafayette change completely making us all sad? And can we burn that afghan crocheted blanket thing on his couch? It had a serious case of the ugly.
No show next week, read a book. Scratch that make it a newspaper or magazine, that way I can keep my job.
**For those of you who weren’t a teen in the 90’s see K-Hole. You will get that joke, I promise it was funny.
