El Diario Oficial de la Federación del 17 noviembre 2009 publicó el  “acuerdo” suscrito en Aguascalientes  por el director general de Geografía y Medio Ambiente del Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (Inegi)
por el cual (según se expresa) “se actualiza el cambio de nombre geográfico de la isla Cerralvo por el de Jacques Cousteau”.

En dicho acuerdo, después de describir la ubicación de la isla, se declara que “el Poder Ejecutivo a través de la Secretaría de Gobernación, encargada de administrar las islas de jurisdicción federal [...], solicitó al Inegi realice las gestiones necesarias para registrar el cambio de nombre geográfico (topónimo) de la isla Cerralvo en el Registro Nacional de Información Geográfica”.

¿Cuándo, cómo y por qué el Ejecutivo decidió introducir el cambio?

El motivo, según parece, es suponer que con ese nombre se subrayará el interés turístico de la isla y del mar de Cortés, al introducir arbitraria y gratuitamente el cambio sin dar razón alguna, se está borrando una parte de la historia de la California mexicana. Y esto atenta contra la identidad y la cultura nacionales. Esta es la historia de la Isla Cerralvo:

En 1632  llegó a Acaponeta  Nayarit, un capitán de navío de nombre Francisco de Ortega. Él sabía  de anteriores expediciones a la península de California y quería también probar fortuna. El problema con que se topó fue que el rey Felipe IV, poco antes había ordenado se suspendiera cualquier
nuevo intento de exploración, ya que hasta entonces nada se había podido lograr.

Francisco de Ortega se dirigió al virrey marqués de Cerralvo, informándole que tenía una fragata con la que podría ir a la California no precisamente para explorarla, sino para averiguar si valía la pena tal exploración. Con tan ingeniosa propuesta obtuvo la licencia pedida.

Tres expediciones emprendió Ortega, en 1632, 1634 y 1636. Estableció contacto con los indígenas del puerto de La Paz y exploró hacia el norte hasta cerca del paralelo 28. En el tercero de los viajes la embarcación de Ortega quedó destruida en una tempestad, pero éste con sus hombres y con los restos de la fragata, pudo construir otra. Así, en la expedición autorizada por el virrey de Cerralvo tuvo lugar la primera construcción de una nave en las Californias.

Los diarios de viaje que dejó Ortega dan cuenta de todo lo que fue descubriendo. Bautizó a lo largo de su  expedición no pocas islas y, en reconocimiento por la autorización concedida por el virrey, dio el nombre
de Cerralvo a la isla de considerable extensión situada un poco al sur de la bahía de la Paz.

Ahora de un plumazo, que denota ignorancia de la historia, se pretende cambiar este nombre rico en evocaciones.

 ¿Se consultó a las autoridades y al pueblo de Baja California y a quienes se interesan por la identidad nacional y la relación que ésta tiene con los nombres de lugar?

Esta aberración es sólo intento más de borrar la historia de México y un ejemplo más de entreguismos fecales.

Hotel California is een klein en vriendelijk hotel. Het is voor mensen die alleen, met partner, met vrienden of met familie er eens tussen uit willen. En het is voor mensen die zich simpelweg willen ‘thuis’ voelen.

Ben je verbonden met één of andere sport, hetzij scuba-duiken, parapenten, mountainbike,… dat is dit Hotel perfect gelegen en kan Dirk je wegwijs maken in de plaatselijke mogelijkheden. Dirk organiseert namelijk zelf parapente vluchten.

 Dit hotel ligt slechts op een vijftal minuten rijden van het duikcentrum in ‘Marina del Este’, op een boogscheut van de beste vliegplaatsen aan de Costa Tropical en anderhalf uur rijden van het ski oord “Sol y Nieve’ in de Sierra Nevada.

Dirk en Tracy zijn de ideale gastheer en ontvangen U graag in hun gezellig hotel. Bovendien tovert Tracy ook nog zeer lekkere gerechten op tafel. Kortom, laat je lekker verwennen in Hotel California!

Dear readers, I have a plea… Please help me settle a disagreement that has been going on for over a decade now. De seguro ya conocen esta cancion, ya que es muy famosa, y muy buena por cierto. Esta cancion se llama vive la vida de coldplay.

Pero han escuchado esta cancion pero tocada por mariachis??????????????????????NO?????????????????’ CREEN QUE NO EXISTE.

Pues si existe.

ESte mariachi es llamado MARIACHI ROCK-O, y tocan de todo tipo de canciones como la de la vive la vida de colplay, u hotel california, entre muchos otros.

Este no es un mariachi comun y corriente. Este mariachi proviene de la union de varios de los mejores mariachis de Guadalajara. Su motivo principal, es la de hacerle publicidad a Guadalajara.

Sin embargo su fama a crecido mucho, ya que es inusual encontrar un mariachi que no solo toque el mariachi loco, caminos de michoacan, etc.. (las canciones tipicas de un mariachi). Ademas que las interpretaciones de este mariachi son muy buenas e incluso suena casi igual que las originales.

Er zijn mij nog een paar ‘schaduwhits’ te binnen geschoten. Eerder noemde ik ‘Never Marry a Railroad Man’ als een prachtig lied van Shocking Blue dat geheel overshaduwd wordt door de megahit ‘Venus’. Door zo’n schaduwhit op het juiste moment ter sprake te brengen geeft u te kennen dat er met u qua muziekkennis niet te spotten valt. (Haal vooral ook uw neus op voor de megahit.)

Uw mag van mij gratis & voor niks ook de volgende voorbeelden gebruiken.

1)     ‘Homburg’, van Procol Harum: tien keer beter dan ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’. Spreek uw minachting uit voor ‘A Whiter Shade’, ‘want dat deuntje heeft Gary Brooker van Bach gejat.’ Of was het een andere pruikenkop?

(Merkt uw gesprekspartner op dat ‘Homburg’ óók van Bach gejat is, begin dan een college over de begrippen imitatio en aemulatio.)

2)     ‘Take time to know her’ van Percy Sledge: honderd keer mooier dan ‘When a man loves a woman’. ‘When a man’ is sentimentele rommel; ‘Take time’ is daarentegen een door merg & been gaand relaas van bedrog, niet naar je moeder willen luisteren, en daar later spijt van krijgen. Heerlijk!

Er zijn er ongetwijfeld meer te bedenken, maar pas op, het luistert nauw. Om te beginnen moet de uitvoerende artiest nog wel over een minimum aan ‘street credibility’ beschikken, en de megahit die alles overschaduwt moet eigenlijk gewoon goed zijn. Het heeft natuurlijk geen enkele zin uw muzikale kennis en uw superieure smaak te etaleren aan de hand van pulp.

Stel, iemand steekt de loftrompet over ‘Hotel California’. U kunt dan wel tegenwerpen dat ‘Desperado’ veel beter is, of iets dergelijks, maar daar wint u echt niks mee. Beter kunt u meewarig uw hoofd schudden en iets mompelen als: de Eagles, tsssss.

Of een nog duidelijker voorbeeld van verspilde moeite: toen ik een jaar of 10 was en mij al serieus voor popmuziek interesseerde (ik hield van zowel de Beatles als de Stones want ik was toen al een ruimdenkend mens), had ik voor het eerst en het laatst een conversatie met mijn oom, die mij toevertrouwde de Cats wel aardig te vinden. Nooit meer een woord gewisseld met de beste man.

Enfin, u moet natuurlijk lekker luisteren naar de muziek die u mooi vindt, en zich niets aantrekken van betweters die denken dat ze de goede smaak hebben uitgevonden.

o killers é aquele tipo de banda que adora se auto-sabotar. não basta lançar discos ruins, tem que fazer covers ainda mais vergonha alheia. essa versão de “hotel california” é para a segunda edição do projeto beneficente “rhythms del mundo”, que visa ajudar vítimas de desastres naturais. o disco traz músicas de bandas de pop/rock da atualidade em versões inspiradas em ritmos latinos.

vale lembrar que a primeira edição trouxe essa versão inacreditável de “dancing shoes” dos arctic monkeys. o vídeo, mais incrível ainda, é um trecho do filme indiano “Gumnaam”, de 1966. quentin tarantino adora.

Full disclosure – right?

That seems to be my motto. I can’t tell you the date I checked into this hotel room. I can’t remember. I can only tell you I have not checked out yet. Reminds me of that song, Hotel California.

Writing for you, has been very therapeutic for me. You have given me strength, and I’m coming back to my old self again. It’s nice to have me back. With that, though….comes a flood of emotions.

I am sharing this because I realized that the people who are living in Iran probably suffer from nightmares too.

I just realized tonight the pattern: I have left the hotel room two times this week, where I didn’t just go to the store across the street, but where I got in a car and saw the freeways, streets and people again. The first time was Monday, and I cried. I felt ridiculous. I woke up Tuesday morning, from a night terror of someone being sent to kill me. I escaped but it was so upsetting I called a friend at 5:00 a.m., (not surprised) there was no answer.

Last night, I went out again with my friend. Mind you, I never go out for more than an hour or two. We get coffee, and come back to the hotel. She lives here too. I went to sleep only an hour ago, but I feel like I’ve been stuck in that world forever. Each time, I dream I am in my hotel room, but it is different. I had an extra bedroom, and I was listening to someone communicate with me through the computer, and like in real life, I made sure to cover the camera inside my computer. I heard someone come in and I left the extra bedroom to see who was in my main living room, because even in real life, it is impossible for anyone to get in unless I open the door. There was a big fat guy, bigger than Vito, and then another guy walks in, he is more like Christopher, but without the nose. Then I see the gun come out of Vito’s stretch pants and I bolt out the door, stuck at the elevator with a family and trying to figure out which way to run without endangering those around me, and without getting killed.

While I am writing this, I see an e-mail comes in, it’s one of my daily bible verses I like to read. My religion isn’t organized very well. I decided, what the heck, this one usually ends up deleted in my spam folder, maybe I should see what it says:

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?

The universe has a funny way of letting me know I should continue with this post.

I guess what I am supposed to share is the fact that I get scared too. I adopted a rule when I was a rebellious teenager. If something scared me then I had to address it. I probably actually learned that when I was 7 years old. I was bucked off of my pony Okie and had to get back on and run him up the hill. Ha! That’s funny, my aunt Eileen made me do that! Oh how ironic! She is always speaking to me with that voice of concern.

So every time I get that feeling….that nervousness, the fear that is flowing through my veins, and pumping my heart….I say to myself, well Heather, I guess you have to deal with this one head on. And the more afraid I am, the more determined I am to kick its ass. I have had so many things happen to me at one time, just to mess with my head, and instead of being reasonable, and giving up, I look up at the sky and say, “Come on Universe, is that all you got!”

I wrote a poem about what transpired before I checked into this ‘god forsaken place”. I’m going to share it. I want you to check out this other version though of Hotel California first. It is interesting and I think it fits.

Slaying The Monster
As I drove through the desert – I contemplated this day.
An unsettled fear – more was coming my way.
There was no where to run, hide, or escape
I was on a collision for another mental rape.

The strangers and I was all who could see,
the things they would do while following me.

I made rash decisions out of sheer panic,
told to calm down and stop acting manic.
“Behave as you would in your normal situation…
keep working without volunteering information.”

I went back to work and what was stolen now back.
Today has arrived and I appear I’m on track.
Just as unexpected when my project was taken,
I’m to say sorry for the delay – and I was mistaken.

What was the reason, the purpose, the plan?
I’ll never know but does my integrity stand?
I fought black and white, and gray was a crime,
I stopped resisting the monster who gave me my time.
What you resist persists, or so I’ve been told…..
I returned to the battle but the trail went cold.

Now you know why I like to say I have more balls than sense. Oh, and don’t worry about me. I have a plan. I’m going to check out of the hotel a couple weeks early, and my grand entrance back is going to be at a Halloween Party.

No conozco demasiado sobre la historia de Eagles, una banda venida de California que lanzó solamente 7 álbumes, entre los cuales encontramos “Hotel California”, el cual catapultó a la banda a lo más alto y a su vez firmó su propia sentencia.  El tema que dio nombre al disco se considera una de las 10 canciones más importantes de la historia.

Y el corte en particular muestra la visión agridulce de la sociedad estadounidense a través de las ventanas de un hotel que representa metaforicamente el mundo de las drogas.

Vom Hotel California gibt es viele  Versionen, viele Videos von live-Auftritten der Eagles. Ich habe eins rausgesucht mit einem fantastischen Trompeten-Solo am Anfang. Der Song ist einfach wunderbar, seit vielen, vielen Jahren (1975?) immer wieder gehört, gespielt, gesehen – und immer wieder ein Genuss!

Dieser Song, andere Interpretation, andere Gruppe, andere Sprache – die Gipsy Kings. Und auch andere Zeit. 1990.
