Morgen am 20.11.2008 kann ich nicht in Köln sein, denn poetrYclub probt zu diesem Zeitpunkt das erste mal auf der Goldbühne in Berlin. Sonst wäre ich in Köln und würde mir ansehen, was mit KeTaNs Baumhaus passieren wird. Er hat Schwierigkeiten mit den Kölner Behörden, was ihr hier nachlesen könnt.

KeTaN habe ich vergangenen Montag abend im Cafe Central in Köln kennengelernt. Irgendwie hatte ich Lust etwas Wirbel zu machen und sprach im Cafe quer durch den Raum Leute an, fragte sowas wie: ” Was bist denn du, Poet, Bildhauer oder sowas? – Ich weiss nicht warum, aber irgendwie kamen wir in dem Raum dann auf das Thema Geld zu sprechen. Der regelmäßige Leser hier weiss ja: Eines meiner Lieblingsthemen, denn dabei kommt man irgendwann und letztendlich immer bei der Frage nach dem Sinn des Lebens heraus. Und das mag ich.

Geld ist eine Philosophie, das verstehen aber bisher die Wenigsten. Meist ist das Verständnis darüber, was Geld eigentlich ist, oder sein kann, sehr eindimensional….Deshalb zückte ich irgendwann meine druckfrischen Rheingold-Geldscheine, die ich beim Kongress der freien Medien in Berlin von Rheingold erhalten hatte:

Ich erklärte also den Anwesenden im Cafe, daß Rheingold im wesentlichen bedrucktes Papier sei, also im Grunde nichts anderes als dieser Euroschein, den ich zum Vergleich ebenfalls aus der Tasche gezogen hatte. Es sei nur eine Sache des Vertrauens, …das mit dem Geld. Dem Euro trauen wir alle, ebenso können wir aber auch jedem anderen Stück Papier unser Vertrauen schenken, also zum Beispiel dem Rheingold.

Der Mensch, den ich da vollquasselte verstand nur Bahnhof, da regte sich am Nebentisch ein Herr und mischte sich in meinen Vortrag ein. Er wedelte mit einem 5 Euro Schein und bot mir an, diesen gegen meinen Rheingoldschein einzutauschen. Gesagt, getan! Die Scheine wechselten die Besitzer, jetzt hatte ich 5 Euro (gesetzliches Zahlungsmittel) in der Hand.

Der aufgeschlossene Tauscher war KeTaN. Wir setzten uns an seinen Tisch und redeten ein bischen. Ich erfuhr also mehr über den Stein des Anstosses in Köln und über seinen Bauwagen, das Theater, die Kochstelle und das Baumhaus, mitten in Köln…

Das Baumhaus ist bedroht, soll nun abgerissen werden…Morgen, am 20.11.2009 läuft das Ultimatum für das Bauwerk ab, das natürlich ohne Baugenehmigung errichtet wurde. Man wird sehen, was KeTaN sich einfallen lässt und wie er mit der Situation umgehen wird. Wenn ich in Köln wäre, würde ich da auf jeden Fall mal hingehen und nach dem Rechten sehen!

Im Frühjahr oder Sommer nächsten Jahres wird es dort in Köln, auf diesem Abenteuerspielplatz ein akkustisches Konzert mit Cosmic und dem poetrYclub geben. Das ist ausgemacht. Die Künstler wird KeTaN möglicherweise mit einer eigenen Währung bezahlen. Es werden Münzen mit Loch sein. Jede Münze repräsentiert den Wert eines Tagewerks. Die Münzen kann man dann z.B. als Kette tragen und damit seinen Reichtum und seine monetäre Liebesfähigkeit zeigen. Geld ist Liebe.

Demnächst berichte ich detailliert über das Kunstprojekt “Rheingold”, denn ab sofort können unsere poetrYclub CDs, T-Shirts, Kunstobjekte, Konzerte und vieles mehr mit Rheingold ausgelöst, bzw. eingetauscht werden…

Seit letzten Sonntag war also alles wiedermal sehr zauberhaft. Es begann mit dem Kongress der neuen Medien in Berlins C-Base, dann gings weiter in Köln im Cafe Central und im Hotel Chelsea, WDR, Cologne Fine Art und dann wieder zurück nach Berlin…Gute Leute, Begegnungen, Bekanntschaften, Freunde und Einsichten. Arbeiten wir an den guten Dingen. Lasst uns Sachen machen, lasst uns gute Sachen machen…! Und wenn ihr in Köln seid, schaut mal zum Eifelwall 5, vielleicht könnt ihr dort was Gutes machen…

Vom 30.10. bis 1.11. 2009 ein wunderschönes Wochenende in Köln verbracht, in wunderschöner Begleitung (Danke, G.). Anlass war die Sektion “Shakespeare in Bollywood” der KunstFilmBiennale und die Ankündigung im Newsletter von Rapid Eye Movies, daß Kiran Nagarkar in die Filme einführen wird und für ein Filmgespräch zur Verfügung stehen würde.  Kiran Nagarkar (auf dem Foto links) ist Schriftsteller, Filmkritiker und Drehbuchautor aus Indien. Am ersten Abend lief Maqbool von Vishal Bhardwaj, eine Bollywood-Adaption von William Shakespeares “Macbeth”. Ein intensiver, schöner und schwermütiger Film, sehenswert und ungewöhnlich für das was ich bisher von Bollywood kannte.

Am Samstagabend haben wir uns mit Andrés im Indischen Restaurant “Thali”, (Engelbertstr. 9, 50674 Neustadt-Süd) verabredet. Sehr zu empfehlen, klein, freundliche Bedienung und gutes indisches Essen. Danach Omkara (auch von Vishal Bhardwaj) gesehen.

Beide Filme sind über Rapid Eye Movies auf DVD zu bekommen.

Am ersten Abend wurde das versprochene “Filmgespräch” mit Kiran Nagarkar auf den nächsten Abend verschoben, an diesem wurde es dann abgesagt, weil es nach Filmende zu spät dafür sei. Sehr schade. Das war einer der Gründe, aus Darmstadt nach Köln zu kommen.

Da will ich hin. Ein schöner Anlass, Köln zu sehen, einen interessanten Autoren zu hören, den ich erst kürzlich entdeckt habe, indisches Kino zu sehen UND im wunderbaren Hotel Chelsea zu übernachten:  Shakespeare in Bollywood – Das andere Bollywood.
Der preisgekrönte indische Schriftsteller, Drehbuchautor und Filmkritiker Kiran Nagarkar stellt mit zwei Filmen das »andere«, im Westen weitgehend unbekannte Bollywood vor. Sowohl MAQBOOL als auch OMKARA, beide von Regisseur und Komponist Vishal Bhardwaj, sind lose Adaptionen von Shakespeare-Dramen. Sie sind mit populären Stars besetzt, verzichten nicht auf Musikeinlagen und große Gefühle und belegen dank außergewöhnlicher Kameraführung und originellem Erzählfluss Nagarkars Ansicht, dass kommerzieller Film und filmische Qualität auch in Bollywood kein Gegensatz sein muss. Kiran Nagarkar wird in beide Filme einführen.

The Chelsea Hotel’s aesthetic appeal is pretty obvious: This 1883 structure—originally one of the city’s first apartment houses—has gothic-Victorian turrets, short corinthian columns, and a deep red brick facade.

It’s all the more striking considering how unremarkable the rest of the stretch of 23rd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues is.

But have you ever really noticed the balconies, with their wrought-iron flowers, stems, and leaves all woven together? They’re really lovely, and easy to miss amid the hotel’s other beautiful design touches.

One of my mom’s favorite TV shows is Leave it to Beaver. It seems that whenever I call her, she’s watching the reruns!

For any of you who’ve missed this popular sitcom, the fictional Cleaver (played by actress Barbara Billingsley) and her husband Ward are the archetypal suburban parents of the 1950’s.  The show follows the escapades of their two sons, Wally and Beaver.

Well, if my mom was a resident of Second Life^® , you can be sure that the first dress she’d buy would be one of the June Cleaver dresses at 1-800-Betties Vintage/Retro Clothing.

One of the more interesting New York City hotels to stay in in RL is the Hotel Chelsea; I visited the hotel in Second Life^® while wearing the teal June Cleaver Checks dress as you can see above.

The real hotel, built in 1883, has a long list of famous guests and residents.  It’s a long way off from the lifestyle of the fictional Cleaver family, but I wouldn’t be surprised if actress Barbara Billingsley once spent the night here.

On Thursday night, June 4th, on the rooftop of the historic Hotel Chelsea in NY, Chris Garneau played an intimate private show for friends and family – a special treat in preparation for the release of his sophomore album, El Radio, out July 7th.  The setlist abandoned any and all of the tracks on his debut, Music for Tourists, and solely focused on his new material.

A true sign of a talented musician is the way they can manage to captivate you even when the songs are new to your ear, and Garneau’s new work shows a new level of musicianship that covers lyrics of relationships gone awry, doubt, and moving on – all packaged with cellos, a trumpet, a harmonica, drums, and his piano.

Definitely one of the greatest music experiences ever…

Woops, didn’t take any pictures today. Here’s a slightly blurry one from the last time I was at the Hotel Chelsea. Two of my favorite places in New York are the stairs there, and the roof there. I’ve been to the roof a couple of times (once to film John Vanderslice play a song for Gothamist)—there are adorable little houses built up there that are surrounded by twinkling lights and overgrown plants. It’s sort of this magical, hidden place that I can’t believe exists. (More photos here)

Went to someone’s apartment at the Hotel Chelsea to hear from Spencer Finch about his glass panel art project going up on the High Line. His process of photographing every minute of a long trip up and down the Hudson River was pretty interesting.

It’s being announced that the GazettE’s 2nd song on their upcoming single, ‘Headache Man’ is going to be the ending theme song for the movie, [Hotel Chelsea].

I just wanted to announce that the September 27-28, 2008 Hotel Dates that I had posted about earlier this week are completely booked. = ( So I went ahead and added a new one for September. The new date is Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at “Hotel Chelsea” in South Beach. I scheduled it for a week day since I was getting a lot of requests for one during the week. I know many of you are going to be giving these photographs to your significant others as a surprise, and I’m sure if you are missing in action during the weekend, it might seem a bit suspicious. Therefore the weekday session would be ideal for you. There are only a few slots left. So act fast!

I just finalized a trip to Manhattan and booked a room at the legendary Hotel Chelsea, the place where Bob Dylan wrote songs, Dylan Thomas died, where Sid stabbed Nancy. I wonder what’s in store for me there.

En estos días en los que he leído tantas anécdotas sobre Nueva York, recordé un hecho que viví en esa ciudad y que me quedó tatuado en la mente por otras razones y no por el momento en sí. En esos días de diciembre en los que disfrutaba del inolvidable “hot cocoa” del carrito de la última esquina y caminaba por una de sus tantas calles, mi ahora ex me dijo con sorpresa ¡Este es el Hotel Chelsea!

Yo puse el freno y me quedé parada mirando hacia el interior, un poco atolondrada por todas las historias que me llegaron a la mente y tratando de escudriñar allí la leyenda que envolvía el lugar.

La primera, y la que había disparado años atrás mi curiosidad por ese lugar, era que ahí había vivido durante 20 años, Edgar Lee Masters.

Y es que Edgar Lee Masters es mi amor eterno. Ese al que busqué librería tras librería, y sin embargo cuando pude comprarme el libro, no pude jamás deshacerme de las fotocopias de su Antología de Spoon River, que seguí cargando durante años.

Fue el primero por el que amé los libros. Algo habrá tenido que ver que mi primer acercamiento estuvo mediado por la dulce voz de mi profesor de literatura y esos ojos claros que me miraban (o eso creía yo) cuando terminaba la última línea de cada párrafo. Quien lo sabe ya, a estas alturas.

Algo habrá tenido que ver que esa hora y media semanal obnubilara mi mente:

La Colina

¿Dónde están Elmer, Herman, Bert, Tom y Charley,

el débil de voluntad, el de fuerte brazo, el payaso, el borracho, el de las peleas?

Todos, todos están durmiendo en la colina.

Uno murió de una fiebre,

otro se quemó en una mina,

Yo soy Minerva, la poetisa del pueblo,

proque era gorda, bizca y me balanceaba al andar,

y aún fue peor cuando Weldy “el duro”

me atrapó después de una brutal persecución.

Me abandonó a mi destino en manos del Doctor Meyers.

Y yo me hundí en la muerte, me fue subiendo el frío desde los pies

como a quien va adentrándose en un río de hielo.

¿Irá alguien al periódico del pueblo

para reunir en un libro los versos que escribí?…

¡Estaba tan sedienta de amor!

¡Tan hambrienta de vida!

El doctor Meyers

No hay hombre, quitando al “doctorcito” Hill,

que haya hecho más que yo por la gente de este pueblo.

Todos los débiles, los lisiados, los imprevisores

y los que no podían pagar acudían a mí.

Yo era el bueno, el complaciente Dcotor Meyers.

Tenía salud, era feliz y bastante acomodado,

La Señora de Meyers

Toda la vida se quejó

de que le calumniaron vilmente los periódicos;

decía que él no tuvo la culpa de cómo acabó Minerva,

que solo intentó ayudarla.

¡Pobre alma tan hundida en el pecado que no podía ver

que, aún intentando ayudarla, como el decía,

había violado las leyes humanas y divinas!

Caminantes, oíd esta antigua advertencia:

Si quereis que vuestros caminos* sean caminos de delicias,

y todos vuestros senderos sean paz,

amad a Dios y guardad sus mandamientos.

Y así unas vacaciones en Nueva York estuvieron ligadas al hotel Chelsea y haber pasado por su puerta es inolvidable porque se ligó en mi mente a un encantamiento que aún perdura. No importa que el tal hotel haya sido construido en 1883 y que ahí también haya sido escrito “2001: Una odisea en el espacio”, o que haya muerto en ese mismo lugar el escritor Dylan Thomas o que en una habitación Sid Vicious de los Sex Pistols apuñalara a su novia en 1978. No importa que por allí hayan pasado artistas, músicos, más escritores, actores, directores; que haya sido sede de siete películas como The Chelsea girls de Andy Warhol o haya sido tema en más de una decena de canciones como Sara de Bob Dylan, y donde también escribió Sad eyed lady of the lowlands.

No, nada de eso me importa más.
