I just realize that there is huge bandwidth leak at my site. I see it at my cpanel bandwidth meter. Wew, one of my picture at my blog linked by big bookmarking site. That would waste many bandwidth. After that, I immediately activate my hot link protection at cpanel.

How to setting it up?
1. Click link Hotlink protection menu
2. Fill URLs to allow access section with URL able to link at your picture
3. Fill the image extension that not allowed to link in Block direct access for these extensions (separate by commas) section
4. Submit

note: www.yoursite.com is different with yoursite.com, so fill your domain in step 2 with www and without www.

Como tenho visto muito na Internet ultimamente, pricipalmente nos Blogs (alguns que visitei por curiosidade e nunca mais deixei de visitar e outros que me deixaram indignados, que nunca mais visitarei), é a prática do Ctrl+C Ctrl+V (o tal do copiar e colar).

Hoje, enquanto lia os Twitts (postagens feitas no Twitter), das pessoas que sigo, me deparei com uma bem interessante que dizia assim: ”@upalele apresenta: “Como sacanear um espertinho!” (em vídeo) http://tinyurl.com/yjzxvn8 //ficou show!”, do pessoal de um blog que sempre dou uma olhada, o UPALELE.

Como não sabia do que se tratava, e curioso como sempre, não pude deixar de dar esse clique. Lá fui eu. Após a página carregar, logo percebi do que se tratava o Post, claro, do bendito do “Hotlink“, o que remete ao direito autoral.

A prática do Hotlink é tão usada na Internet que não podemos sequer imaginar o quanto. Mas bem, não vim aqui para falar quanto o Hotlink é usado, mas sim para fazer uma crítica sobre seu uso e sobre o “copie e cole”.

“Não sou contra usar um determinado trecho de um  artigo para complementar o seu, claro, sempre citando o dono, ou autor do mesmo.”

Mas copiar todo o conteúdo, além de demonstrar extrema preguiça de quem o faz, trata com banalidade quem teve o trabalho de executa-lo, tirando todo o mérito do mesmo e fazendo com que pensemos que todo e qualquer conteúdo é de domínio público (daí o termo caiu na Net), e as coisas não são bem assim.

Se você não tem tempo para expor o seu próprio ponto de vista sobre um determinado assunto, não o faça. É muito melhor, e mais sensato, citar onde leu o conteúdo para que outras pessoas possam fazê-lo do que copiar todo o conteúdo para seu próprio blog, principalmente em casos de que para esse conteúdo ser criado e colocado no ar alguém parou e colocou sua criatividade nele.

Não estou acima de “Ctrl+C Ctrl+V”, até mesmo porque também já postei notícias de outros lugares. Aliás, não sou repórter e nem escrevo ficção, muito menos invento notícias, então citei de outros lugares mesmo (sempre indiquei de onde vieram), eram fatos. Quantas vezes vemos notícias semelhantes em lugares diferentes, e se é fato, todas tratam do mesmo assunto, logo não podem ser interpretadas. “Aconteceu assim e pronto.”

Vamos parar e pensar se é esse tipo de conteúdo que queremos encontrar na Internet.

Have you noticed how greedy the right-wing sites are getting? They are not messing around with their perhaps money-making potentials, they are going whole-hog on the ads and marketing. They don’t care at all what it looks like to anyone reading the sites, every penny’s gonna get squeezed out of the place. Find it distracting to try to digest the political opinion with all the third-party marketing opinion thrown in? Tough.

If you go to Townhall, it’s almost impossible to move about the site with all the frozen screens and pop-ups. Limbaugh’s site is like a carnival or Vegas barker’s wet dream: neon reds blaring at you from every angle.

And now comes a somewhat newer ad phenomenon. I caught this originally at World Net Daily, the site recently famous for foisting the bogus Obama birth certificate online, breaking the hearts of thousands and thousands of wingnuts.

They’re ads embedded in the text of the post as hotlinks. Instead of an idea, person, or breaking story being highlighted as a link for you to follow in order to pick up some background information or fill in some tangential issue, it’s just a random ad-link that picks a word or phrase to divert traffic to a barely related product.

This is what it looks like, roughly: “Two U.S. journalists who had been detained by North Korea were traveling back to the United States with former President Clinton hours after being pardoned, a Clinton spokesman said…” And if you clicked the ‘traveling’ link (mine, just a fake) you’d go to Travelocity.com, or Travelers Insurance, or some such thing.

To say that it pretty much kills any idea that political opinion or analysis is written for its own sake is fair. It also makes for some hilarious contrasts, the purposes of angry ‘intellectual’ Conservatives and retailers not being identical.

The latest idiots to debase their website are the moneymakers over at Atlas Shrugs. And wasn’t that John Galt a hell of a shill? I was reading their angry take on Bill Clinton the American backstabber when I got fascinated with all the embedded links. Here are some screenshots.

Baru-baru ni, aku telah tukar line prepaid aku hotlink kepada maxis value plus. So far ok la, call to maxis number caj 0.15 sen dan no selain maxis caj 0.18 sen. Disini aku nak kongsi beberapa ketidakpuasan hati aku tentang syarikat telekomunikasi mempunyai pelanggan terbesar di Malaysia ini.

Yang pertama :

Orang maxis ada bagitau aku bila sim card hotlink sudah x leh guna masukkan simcard baru dah leh pakai. Namun…. palsu belaka. Setelah simcard hotlink aku xboleh digunakan yang menandakan bahawa prepaid aku berjaya ditukarkan kepada postpaid, aku dgn gembiranya memasukkan simcard baru dan dengan hampanya simcard tersebut belum aktif lagi. Kenapa matikan hotlink aku kalau postpaid maxis aku lom berjaya diaktifkan.  Bila aku call hotline 123 maxis, operator bagitau cuba tunggu 1-2 jam. Tapi masih tidak berfungsi, aku call sekali lagi dan sekali lagi operator memberitahu tunggu 1-2 jam lagi, ini prosedur biasa… Aduhhhaii meksis.

Yang kedua :

Setelah berjaya menggunakan line maxis aku tu, cuba call boleh… siapa aku call? mesti la tunang aku hehe.. then cuba sms…duhh failed. SMS aku xleh anto, call maxis diorang cakap sms aku belum diaktifkan lagi…Aduhaiii meksis, tu kan standard features yang perlu ada dalam line tepon kenapa belum diaktifkan dong.

Namun masih ada masalah, aku tgk unbilled amount, tak free pon call tunang aku…. rupa2nya maxis bukan buat family plus package atau supp line tapi buat satu lagi primary line atas nama aku… Aduhaiii…. call la maxis, dia cakap dia boleh tukarkan kepada package tersebut tapi ambil masa 24jam, so tunggu la esok, try call..x free pon..call maxis lagi, dia cakap masih dlm proses lagi…esok call..masih caj lagi..dan esok dan esok… dalam seminggu baru berjaya tukar kepada supp line pakej family plus…

Itemised bill aku xde dalam bil padahal opsyen dalam customer service system dah enabled. Kena call lagi, tu pon tak tau berfungsi ke x itemised bill tu utk bulan depan.

Meksis2….

I was at Hitz party last night at Slippery Seniorita with Li May, Sue Wern, Jack and Su Yin. The Hitz Morning Crew, JJ and Ean were there playing games with the crowd and giving out Ipod gadgets. I wanted to go up when they’re giving away the Ipod Touch but then no one would go up with me. You need a partner to play. Ean is awfully cute though. Much cuter than when he’s on TV.

Joe Flizzow was there to perform and Hujan performed quite a number of songs too. I’m a fan of the local music industry, but just not a fan of Hujan. And I prefer Too Phat’s songs than Flizzow’s solo singles. *sorry* Got pretty bored when the performances were taking places. Li May looked as if she was gonna eat up the band members. Her cousin is cuter. This conversation took place when Li May was trying to inform her that Hujan will be playing soon.

LM(screaming): Hey Hujan will be playing after this.

SP(only hearing the word ‘Hujan’): Outside?

LM: Har? Hujan is a band la

SP: oooooooooooooo

Jakeman took over the music around 12.30pm. And we can see the smile creeping back onto Li May’s face. LOL. We had a lot of fun after that. There were a lot of dancing, and a lot of screaming to the song, most probably with messed up lyrics. I have not had such a girly night out in a very long time. Due to the crowd, the place was extremely stuffy. We were all so sticky with sweat but kept on dancing nonetheless.

We wanted to leave when the club shuts, but it got too stuffy I guess so we left slightly earlier to Kapitan, Gurney Tower to have some food. The food was alright but the waiter does not seem to understand that I wanted my maggi goreng to be ‘langsung tak pedas‘ and Sue Wern wanted hers to be ‘pedas‘. We believed our maggi gorengs are prepared in the same wok then seperated into two plates. But the waiters are quite friendly and funny. We got a 30cents discount after I jokingly asked whether his math was accurate.

We got back to an apartment we’re crashing at around 430am. Li May, Sue Wern and I (Su Yin went back to her own apartment) stayed up chatting til around 6am. We had to rush back to SP around 10am cos it’s ‘Tang Chek’ and we needed to be back for prayers. *Yawn* Really lack sleep right now.

After lunch Li May and I will be going for a manicure/pedicure session. Sigh. Life is a bore in this northern region of the country. I wonder when will I be back in KL? I haven’t found a job in Penang yet. Aaaaahhhh

ps: Forgot to bring my cam so didn’t take any photos of the SS Party. But there was a point when Ean was biting masking tape off of JJ. Imagine that.. hehehe
