This summer I took my first try at “running”. The first time around was pretty successful. I went on my own, and with a bit of walking here and there I ended up with a distance of 10km. Then came the two Fun-Runs I went on with my friend S. (no schedule or routine whatsoever). Both times we smoked doobies and one time even got poutines… we distanced decently both times, but there was just something that felt a little counterproductive about the fun we had. They were definitely fun, but I realized I really can’t seem to do the discipline thing, at least not for working out.

So lately I have been feeling extra lazy, and the autumn weather got me craving some outdoors-ness. After many tries I got A’s old iPod to work, and then I was motivated to head out. By the end of the the run I had developed a small blister on the bottom of my foot, and the iPod died at about 40 minutes into The Twelfth Hour, a mix by The Twelves, the grooviest duo south of the border, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Luckily I was close to done my run and was more motivated to run because of lack of music. Like I said I’m no runner, but really this mix is perfect, the bpm keeps you going and the mix is smooooooth as buttah!

I distanced 10km, and probably won’t go for a run for another 4 or 5 months, I’m sooo sore today, I never remember to stretch! These will now be called Health Check Runs, just making sure all the bad foods, partying & general laziness haven’t completely depleted my body and lungs. It probably doesn’t actually mean anything, and I am in fact super unhealthy, but it’ll give me peace of mind for a few more months!

Hands down one of my top 10 favourite Musicians, check ‘em if you know what’s good for ya! (Click the Twelfth Hour in the artcile above to download their mix from mediafire!)

Oh and here’s a bonus, good tunes nevurr die! YOA (The Twelves Remix) – Theatre of Disco

I didn’t think things were going to get this serious. Who am I kidding? Yes, I did. I knew this was going to happen way before it even started. We both did. But, we chose to carry on. We chose to deal with the pain whenever it would come. Well, I think it’s here. For me it is. The pain has arrived and it has made a gut-wrenching entrance. I can’t understand these feelings. I’m in over my head.

Temptation is a merciless bitch.

And as for you, I love you. Still. Even after everthing, I still do love you. No less than before. I don’t understand how or why, but I do. Maybe love isn’t meant to be understood. Maybe we should just go with the flow.

Today, I had the horrible 24 hour stomach flu. Oh, I was certain I was dying. I threw up so many times. Goodness. And Alvaro cracked his forehead open. Oh, poor Alvaro has stitches now I hope he doesn’t scar, although I will love him just as much. And Alvaro and I went to get some food, but all I got was a milkshake (against my own will) and now I regret it. My stomach hurts like hell and I am nauseous. Damn it.

My arm hurts. Probably because I used it to anchor myself on my ride home. It might not have been ready for the abrupt torture I gave it in the whole 10 minutes I spent hanging unto the vehicle…

The time was 5.45pm. I had the chance to talk to my friend-slash-mentor after class. It was surprising to see him there, in fact it was actually surprising to still be able to talk to him. Being the smartest guy who ever walked the halls the department building and one of the smartest guys to ever walk the streets of the university it was, to me, surprising to see that he still has time for himself and for us. In fact he’s making a platform game that uses look-a-like sprites of us as characters as a tribute to our circle of friends.

So I scurried down the lobby and unto the grand ramp; hurried down and unto the university streets. The scene was surreal, the street lights glowing in vibrant yellow, the grass along the sides of streets dancing like natives welcoming foreign men it was a scene worthy to be painted. The wind blew and the Christmas smell started wafting at the tip of my nose. I walked swiftly as I was hoping to get a decent ride home and I did 5 minutes later. I came by my second stop and saw people flocking over the sides of the streets. It wasn’t a good site to see and it sent shivers down my spine. I knew I wasn’t going to get home if I wanted a seat. I knew I had to rely on brute force if I wanted to get home immediately. I also knew that I had to be resourceful and at the very least patient if ever I hope to come home before dinner. I sprinted towards the side of the streets and joined the flock of people waiting for jeepneys to stop by and give them a lift home. I waited for a couple of minutes and made the most out of the intimations the drivers gave, but all to no avail. It was never easy to get a ride at this time of day. Nothing is organized here in the Philippines. The more we try to organize things the more complicated and exhaustive things become. It was worse for the transportation industry. If you don’t have a car, it’s going to be a do or die situation.

I had to take things into my own hands. I waited for one of the jeepneys to stop, then I ran towards it. I had to anchor myself by the vehicle’s entrance. I had my hands grip the bars at the vehicle entrance firmly and I placed my Van’s classic slip-on’s by the entrance platform. My head popped out of the vehicle’s roof much like a rabbit’s way of popping his head out of a magician’s hat. I situated my eyes on the view that ran as I hung myself by the entrance. Lights flickering, cars honking on each other due to traffic jams, people anxiously waiting to get their ride home; it was life in front of me, life in the dusty dirty beautiful city. I had the facial of my life to be honest. Mircrobeads of dust, and black mist caressed my face in a ten minute treatment. It wasn’t pretty and it was not even close to being relaxing, considering the amount of stress it brought to my right arm. But it was well worth it, new experience, gush of adrenaline and the view of the city in its most lively state was breathtaking. It was the most gorgeous interpretation of an oxymoron; ugly-dirty beautiful, perfect looking metropolitan scene. People rushing, horns making noise and a new facial, oh yes! This is rush hour!

I’ve certainly been busy since the last time I posted something! Where to begin with what I’ve been doing?

Well, for starters, I was given the chance to act in a college film. I was there for 8 hours of filming, and I only acted for about 2 hours at most in it. But, it was fun anyway. I learned that my college does not have digital video cameras. We have the 16mm film cameras (the first design to have a zoom button!). I learned that actors need to find a way to keep themselves entertained between scenes. There is a short period of movement and action, accompanied by long moments of nothing.

An interesting note about this filming experience was that I was nearly arrested. Our director had found ‘the perfect spot’ to film the movie. (I will be saying ‘our’ and ‘we’ because there were about 5 or 6 people working on this film every moment I was there.) So, we all crammed into the pack of gum he calls a car and went off to this dirt lot on a fairly busy road next to a liquor store. (Needless to say, my claustrophobe self was more than happy to get out of the car.) Now, the story has a homeless man in it. So, one of our actors set himself up as a homeless man. We were recording for about an hour before the liquor store owner came out. Man, the owner was seriously P.O.ed. He was angry because we were recording a ‘bum around his establishment.’ Our director told him that his store wasn’t on the film. We couldn’t prove it to the owner because we were using the old 16mm film. He said that we had to prove to him his store wasn’t in the film, or he was going to call the police to arrest us. We didn’t want to get into trouble with the police, and we couldn’t prove to him that his store wasn’t in the film, so we had to leave. It really orally evacuated that we had to move. That dirt lot was an awesome place to shoot, and was better than the place we had to go to film the movie.

I saw Celtic Thunder when they came to San Diego! They were only here for one night, but it was a beautiful night. I fell deeper into love, had my heart broken, and fell in love with them all over again. I’m convinced that only a Celtic Man can pull such emotions from me. I had so much fun. I couldn’t hear properly for a day (due to my own screaming), and my throat was a bit sore from the event for about 5 days after they event. I can’t wait for them to come back to San Diego, though. I just hope that I can get better seats next time!

I also had the chance to see The Lion King in the theatre! Alright, I had nosebleed seats (what do you expect for $28?), but I still saw it! I took my aunt with me to the show, as she’s never been in the audience of a theatre, only on stage. She, for some reason, wasn’t as impressed with everything as I was. She was expecting the actors to be in more of an animal-looking costume. We had the chance to go with the Director behind the scenes of The Lion King. I learned so much information from there. Apparently, there is 2 of everything for the traveling show. There were two traveling shows in the USA, and when it became 1 show, that show ended up with both sets of props, costumes, and equipment. The show I saw had the most South Africans then any other Lion King show being played in the world. 6. 6 South Africans in the USA Touring Show. That doesn’t seem like a lot to me, but it appearently takes at least that many to keep everyone in the show on track! There are about 5 differnt African languages spoken in the show, which I found to be fascinating. The one spoken the most is Zulu.

On the school front, I have been working on two group projects, a midterm, and a couple of essays. I think that my group projects are going well. One is going to be a Civic Engagement speech on the Ugandan Children, and the other is 10 minute play for my Theatre class. Our play is going to be a comedy of the LA judge that refused to marry an interracial couple. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s an article about it on CBN News.) I think that my midterm went well – it was in math. I hope that I passed it! I need all the good grades I can get in that class.

I’ll probably be putting the theatre project and play up onto Youtube when I get a copy of them. I’ll post the links/put the video on here when I get the chance to.

Well, now that I’m done telling you all about my life, I’m off to do some school work. Group projects really take all possibilities of having a life away from you.

Brightest Blessings,
Sockgirl

Once my group got the task we immediately got together to discuss ideas. It took longer than I first

Once my group got the task we immediately got together to discuss ideas. It took longer than I first thought to get an idea, we toyed around with the idea of genres and we decided it should be comedy as it was all of ours favourite genre and we decided on a viral advert as we had a few advertising students on board and we could really use there knowledge to do the advert. Someone then mentioned scientology and how it was a load of bullshite and that’s when we came up with the idea to make up our own religion and do a piss take sort of advert parodying scientology.

Coming up with what we were going to include in our advert we had to do alot of research on where it was meant to have been founded and who founded it. We decided to do a few vox pops to make the advert seem a little more realistic and we decided to have a little speech in there too, so we could make sure we got our point across. This process took basically all of the Monday up.

On the Tuesday we had to start filming so I got to the loan shop early to make sure we got our equipment. The first problem I ran into was that the loan shop had no DV tapes which was a piss take so I went to the art shop in the Graham Sunderland building who also said they had none. Luckily another member of the Media Production team had alot of spare tapes and lent me one to use. Once we waited for everyone to show up we started filming, the vox pops all went very well and so did the speech that we had planned even though it took me a few takes to get it right, another problem arose when we came to do the reconstruction as we needed to dress up a space to look like the 1980’s and we didn’t have much time to do it so to side step the bullet we shot a very tight shot in one of the halls so you couldn’t see any of the walls, just the desk and the subject, we also bought a very 80’s looking shirt from the charity shop and that is how she shot the scene. I think everyone had equal input to how we should shoot the scenes and most people were willing to act in the scenes except for one person but ill talk about that later.

On Wednesday we started to edit. Once we had captured the footage we came across the problem of there was no sound and all the speakers were on and everything was working. I turns out that the sound settings were wrong so once I had changed them in the tools menu everything was working fine and we could start editing. Everyone had plenty to say about how we should edit the shots and how they wanted it to look which I thought was great but no-one was willing to actually get onto the computer and do the editing so it was left to me to actually do the work which I was happy about actually because id never used the software before and it gave me a chance to experiment with it plus I love editing. Once we had edited all the titles and rendered the effects we went to play the project from start to finish but a fatal error message popped up which really worried us, we couldn’t play the project or even close the program. I figured out by studying the timeline that a piece of audio had become corrupted so all I did was delete the audio clip and the project worked fine again. We then exported it and uploaded it to YouTube.

I think all the group worked very well Me, James and Alex I think showed the most technical ability so the girls let us take care of that side and Rosie, Alina and Lorraine had alot of input as to what shots they wanted and how they thought it should be edited so I was really happy with the whole team, Anete wasn’t there for the editing part and didn’t really have alot of input but she did make a very good soundtrack which we ended up using for the video so I was very impressed with her. One member of the group however I wasn’t happy about but I didn’t say anything about it because I was told not to by the rest of my group. Rebecca was late showing up to the meetings and she had never attended any meetings before this point, she had absolutely no input to the project at all and in the editing she just sat there not saying anything which kind of annoyed me, when I asked whether a shot I had edited looked good everyone chipped in and we discussed how to make it better or whether it should have been moved except for Rebecca.

I have really enjoyed doing this project and if this is what things are like in the real world of media then I cant wait to start, I have learned what it is like to work to a very tight deadline I have learned the stress of thinking we wont get the project done in time and I’ve experienced the drive to get it done and the pleasure to see the final product. Im impressed with the team I had to work with and I think the project was a huge success.

The episodes “Society” and “Legends” will comprise the event. The episodes were originally intended to air separately.

Apparently, the television event has also been given a MASSIVE budget boost. This is all absolutely incredible news and I cannot WAIT! The Smallville Two-Hour Event is written by comic book icon Geoff Johns and will see Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Stargirl, and the Martian Manhunter alongside the usual cast, and is set to air on January 29th.

In a land far away, in a time long ago, there was a man who had enough and had he not just enough, but to excess had he. His hours were long, his toils sincere, and his earnings quite dear. He ate well, he lived well, and he slept well. For this was a man with enough to spare and did he, with others share. For this, he was well regarded by his brethren, kin and neighbor, too. Even his foes kept a fond distance, for they were few and their character untrue, with only the cowardice of envy to spare. And so, the man slept well and he lived well.

It was common in those times, as in times now, for like to live by like. And so it happened that in a dwelling nearby lived a second man, well to do as he was. This man, too, had more than enough, enough even to excess. He ate well and he lived well, but he did not sleep well. Though his hours were likewise long, his toils were not sincere. The wind hums in question, how were his earnings dear? With cunning and not without conniving, this second man pondered and plotted his hours away. He left his toils to others near, that they may have reason not to stray. And stray they did not, their fear keeping them near. His foes were neither few and ever nearer they drew. Respect for this man fell away; in its place, stood only their contempt. And so, the second man, though he lived seemingly well, did not sleep so well.

It was true in those times, as in times now, that where a mountain stands tall, a valley lays nearby. And so it were that a third man lived not so far from the first and second men. But though he ate well enough, he did not live well and he did not sleep well. His toils were many and his hours even more. And whilst he would utter not such words, it was for the second man that he toiled so. Neither foe had he, nor friends with which to be. His hours filled with anger true and one part angst, and toil alone did he. And so, the third man did not sleep well, because he did not live well.

It was inevitable in those days, as in days of now, that where the sun shines upon a tree, never the land below is a golden ray to see. And so there was a fourth man, who served below all the others. Of excess and its meaning he understood not, knowing it to be a thing only that he lacked. His toil was not much, his time of rest neither more. For his hours were long and he never knew when, if, it would end. Foes he had not; for nothing did they fear nor more was there to envy dear. Friends were likewise few, too afraid of filth to stand even near. He ate not well, and by no man’s standard did he live well. But he did sleep well. With little to weigh him down and not a regret to hold him back, only the night was his friend, ever to return and always to keep him until the morn. And so, the fourth man did not live well, but he slept so very well.

With a heavy heart do we toil away what otherwise would we idle, or with light heart shall we rest when the day has met its end and bids farewell the eve.

This story of four men is but a tale of two: two ways to eat, two ways to sleep, and keeping true –there are but two ways to live.

Published: Monday, November 9, 2009

Updated: Monday, November 9, 2009

Several hundred UCF students, faculty and staff received H1N1 vaccinations in the initial intranasal inoculation sessions held last week.

According to Chad Binette of UCF News & Information, within a half hour of when the vouchers for the nasal spray became available, many students were coming into the Health Center and Knight Aide to pick them up.

More sessions begin on Tuesday when about 500 shots of the injectable H1N1 vaccine will be given to priority groups established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Priority groups include health care providers, emergency medical services personnel, anyone aged 6 months to 24 years, pregnant women, household contacts and caregivers of infants younger than 6 months and people 25 to 64 years old who have underlying health conditions that increase risk for flu-related health complications.

Vouchers and consent forms can be obtained by presenting a valid UCF ID at the appointment/check-in window inside the Health Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the Knight Aide pharmacy and convenience store, adjacent to the UCF Arena, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Binette said.

One-hour time windows for the injectable shot are available for UCF students, faculty and staff who belong to a CDC priority group at the UCF Health Services building on Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to noon, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Arriving anytime within the scheduled time window is acceptable.

Distribution of the remaining intranasal doses of the initial shipment is scheduled for Nov. 12 at 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Students, faculty and staff must bring their voucher and consent form and arrive at the Health Center five minutes prior to their scheduled session. Those arriving after session instructions begin will need to request a voucher for another session.

There is no charge for UCF students to receive the vaccine, but faculty and staff must pay a $10 fee by cash or check.

"Students, faculty and staff are advised to get their seasonal flu shots as well," Binette said. "Seasonal flu shots are available by appointment at the UCF Health Center."

Now what time is that?

Time and waves donot wait for any one, they continue like that . Time is everlasting but in the case of waves we cant say so as there wont be any waves without water. It has been said that the third world war would be fought for water and I can assure you that there wont be any war after that as the entire human trace would be vanished or even the entire world would be destroyed. But the discovery of water in the moon has given us an outside chance.

The concept I found more complex is TIME. No one knows when time orginated .Some say it was there from the orgin of universe. But another question ‘when the univerese came into being?’ would make them speechless. Some say it started from the time of big bang theory .So we can only say or point out the beging of time on the basis of some abstract Ideas , I would say.But I think another side of it. Time as a concept introduced by man,for his daily activities .So with this concept if we look for the answer for the above question ,we wont be able to find the answer .So as a matter of fact we would belive that it had neither a begining nor an end.

The concept or our concept Time is not same all over.At the same Instant or moment we would have 2 different times in 2 distint places.S the concept time is unique to each places. It changes with every longitude . We have took sun as our reference point of time.So it depends on the phases of the earth facing the sun which inturn determinse the concept ‘day and night’.

Now time has become more complex than it was during the earlier days. You may know the small units of time such as milli, micro, and nano but not of something such as pico, femto, atto, zepto, yocto and many more.

Nowadays I don’t see much of people who are wearing old analog watches or using those type of clocks. Now every one is equiped with the digital watches which even shows the minute divisions of time.See how accurate it is and will be.

to be contd……..

I think that as a creative person I naturally shy away from any redundant thing, anything that could

I think that as a creative person I naturally shy away from any redundant thing, anything that could be labeled “routine.” But, during prayer today, I realized routine is actually a very Biblical concept and that to be at the place where routine is natural for you could mean you are at a more mature place with the Lord.

The schedule of the program here at OSL is chaotic, and we never really know what is going to come up from one day to the next. I’ve noticed that when I stray from my routine, when I am not getting ready for bed at a good time, getting my homework done at a reasonable time, journaling before sleep, and spending time with the Lord in a routine way, that I am negative, critical, short-sighted, short-tempered, and really just plain rude. This is not the person i want to be, and it is certainly not the kind of person that carries a large impact for the Kingdom of God. I must bring life and joy to the people around me, not a critical spirit and rude speech.

That said, I have decided to block out every single hour of my day as an attempt to make allowance for all the things I wish to accomplish, everything from practicing scales on the piano and spending quality time with the Lord. I think this will make a huge difference in my countenance, relationships, and state of mind. I hope to see grades improve, relationships soar, and usefulness be maximized. The mosti mportant thing, though, is to make time for quiet resolve at the end of each day, to retreat back into my room, turn my lamp on, journal, and do the routine things that get me ready for the next day.

Baby steps, though; I can’t get too ahead of myself and I can’t expect too much change too fast.
