Cioè mi tocca dirvi che questo film rievoca nel titolo quello di Fausto Brizzi … ma credo che quello di Fausto Brizzi, e mi stupisce dirlo, sia 10.000 volte meglio.

E con questo ho detto tutto … del resto è estate e la competizione con le Arene, dove rifanno i migliori film dell’anno, è fe-ro-ce … e quindi escono solo film che meritano, come questo, 2 stars virgola cinque.

Chissà una notte d’insonnia su Sky Cinema … dove tutte queste mexdx di film arrivano tutte sigh … magari … ma magari anche no, eh.

Il regista è anche sceneggiatore di cose tipo “Requiem for a dream” del 2000.

Trama: Un addetto alla sicurezza entra in azione contro una banda di ladri pronta a svaligiare il centro commerciale in cui lavora.

Lo so che lo avete pensato tutti.

Eppure, lo giuro, codesto non è il film sul poliziotto di quartiere promesso dall’attuale Premier.

Che quello davvero è un film … ma di quelli Luce dell’epoca. E dai.

Delusi vero?

Coraggio, però, che tanto qui, questa settimana, se Dio vuole, non c’è davvero limite al peggio.

Eppure c’era un film dal titolo “Quel pomeriggio di un giorno da cani” che credo raccontasse una storia del genere.

Ma che c’entra, quello era una bellissimo film con Al Pacino. Niente di meno che il vecchio zio Al.

Mi sa che ne fecero pure una parodia italiana con Gerry Calà, girato sull’Aurelia a Roma, dove adesso c’è un supermarket Panorama (vicino casa mia) … roba da chiodi.

A questo film, che è persino peggio della parodia italiana del film testé citato, diamo due stars … ma si cattivi più che mai, dai.

Eccolo il film che attendavamo da mesi (dunque marzo … aprile … maggio … giugno …. luglio … ma si da almeno 4), dove ci sono pure due lesbiche che ci danno dentro, finalmente.

Ops … ho detto lesbiche … chiedo scusa, deve essermi sfuggito.

Che poi Playboy ha pure chiuso i battenti … proprio così sono sempre i migliori che se ne vanno … sigh !!!

There are some movies you love to hate. I can’t say outlander was good in any way really, but it was so audacious it earned a little place in my heart.

Outlander stars James Caviesel (Jesus himself!). He is Kainan a humanoid alien from a far away planet. He crash lands on earth near a Viking settlement. Unfortunately he isn’t alone. Stranded on earth with him is the Moorwen, a creature that radiates strange light and uses it’s tentacles and gnarly teeth to ravage any humans in it’s path. Kainan needs the help of the Vikings to stop the creature, and the Vikings need Kainan to help battle the most formidable foe they’ve ever encountered.

If this sounds like a really cheesy plot to you, you are correct. It certainly is. However, Outlander is filled with such ridiculously fun action sequences that it’s easy to let the plot slide. I’d hazard to guess that the film makers knew they were creating a piece of sci-fi camp. The clichés are too lovingly rendered to be a mistake.

The special effects are quite good, although the Moorwen itself is not a very interesting creature. Since the advent of computer generated imagery it’s hard to impress me with an alien creature, especially one that has no motivation besides the base instinct to feed.

The acting is fair. I was a little surprised to see John Hurt in this movie. Not so surprised to see a great bit part from Ron Pearlman. Ron’s death scene is pretty kick ass as well.

What can I say really? This movie is absurd and it knows it. I could pick it apart but anyone would just say “But that’s the point”. So I’ll let this slide, and enjoy it for what it is.

My oh my, it’s been a long time since I wrote anything about Outlander. Well I guess I was a little stung by the absolute dump that TWC perpetrated on the movie. I don’t know if I mentioned in any of the previous posts but to my knowledge, there were no posters for the movie available on opening weekend. Spectacular, no? Ah well. So anyway, it’s now out there on DVD, complete with commentary, deleted scenes, concept art and some very cool animatics. I hope everyone who has been following this gets a chance to rent it. (But even on this I have to bitch – what the fuck is with that cover they designed? You can’t even tell it’s a creature movie.) Hopefully it’ll do well out there – as you can perhaps see from the pic up top, as of this writing, it was the number 3 rental on itunes, and that without the slightest bit of promotion.

Well, after all is said and done, we have a movie we can be proud of. Is it the finest movie in the world? No. Does it have merit? I think so. Plenty of mistakes made all around, and for those of you wondering about certain budget issues, yes, we lost $10,000,000 not long before shooting and simply had to make do with what we had. It meant moving the production from New Zealand to Canada, and the FX from WETA to Spin. It meant limited extras and just 50 shooting days. It meant not being able to recover from some catastrophically bad 2nd unit days. It meant not being able to even shoot the opening sequence as written, which was a battle between the hero and the creature inside the falling space ship, not just an exterior shot of its crash. It meant Howard, the producer and myself paying for the underwater sequences because we ran out of money. It meant 2 or 3 takes, not ‘do it until it’s right’. It meant limited coverage so some scenes couldn’t be edited properlY.

And for those wondering about the running time, we were told we could not run a single frame over the contractual running time, which is where it stands now. I mean that literally. Not a single frame. As a result, we had to cut out some scenes dear to my heart . (No big; all scenes are dear to the writer’s heart). But it also meant we couldn’t edit certain things properly because we couldn’t spare the frames. And, if you’ll notice, the credits roll by extra fast. This is because we needed the time.

Funny business, no?

In the end, I have a good movie, some terrific memories of great people and a lawsuit that’s still going on

“Outlander” is a textbook example of how a good concept can be ruined by an over-reliance on Hollywood formula. The concept is that a homicidal extra-terrestrial creature lands on Earth, something we’ve seen more than a few times. What makes this one potentially more interesting is that it lands in early eighth century Norway, in the era and land of the Vikings.

I could see potential in that idea. Here we have a group of people, much more primitive than we are, lacking in technology, and without the cultural frame of reference to grasp the concept of extra terrestrial beings. And then they face one. If one made it with a sense of authenticity, it could work well.

Unfortunately, once they had the concept the film-makers turned to the Hollywood book of screenwriting formula. Co-writing with Dirk Blackman, director Howard McCain decided that Vikings vs. aliens isn’t enough. He has to bring to Earth a good alien, who looks remarkably like a human, and even can fall in love with them, to fight the monster, which he calls a Moorwen.

The good alien, Kainan, is played by Jim Caviezel. As the movie opens, he crashes his spaceship into a lake. Something glowing escapes from it under the water. Kainan rises to the surface with one badly injured colleague. Then he falls unconscious. When he wakes the next morning, his colleague is dead. With the aid of a computer the flashes information through  his eye he sets about learning Norwegian, which – for our convenience – is English. In fact, his first “Norwegian” expression is a four-letter one beginning with “F” that linguists consider to owe more to the Anglo-Saxon.

Things are not looking too bad for Kainan so far, apart from crash landing his ship. He does have a ray gun of some sort, with which he shoots a tree, and instantly sets out on a hunt through the local woods for his quarry. He finds his way to an encampment that’s been burned to the ground. All the bodies have disappeared.

Despite being a super advanced alien, or maybe because of it, he’s not wilderness savvy, which is why a group of Vikings is able to sneak up on him even though they are on horseback, make him lose his ray gun in a river, tie him up, and take him back to their fortified village, Herot.

At the village wise and wizened Rothgar (played by John Hurt) his doing that warrior type thing of having a swordfight with his daughter Freya (Sophia Myles). She’s feisty and capable with a weapon . The female protagonist always is in this kind of movie. And since dear old dad can’t best her in combat she tells him she won’t marry Wulfric (Jack Huston) the man he wants her to marry.

Wulfric, coincidentally, is the same Viking who has captured our good alien hero. Returning, he tells Rothgar the nearby village has been destroyed and no survivors have been found.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, they all think the stranger must have done it. He tries to convince them he’s come here to kill a dragon. Nobody believes him until that monster comes barging out of the forest at night, unseen by most people despite the fact it glows in the dark, and kills several villagers.

In that roustabout way that passes for courtship in these movies, Kainan thumps Freya. Freya later thumps Kainan .They must be ideally suited, despite him being extra terrestrial and all.

Naturally the villagers gradually realize they do have to go out and kill the monster. Kainan reveals a few things from his past that show why the Moorwen is so ticked off, and – as importantly  – that back on the planet they lived on before it had killed his wife and child.

There’s a bit of an ecological message here as Kainan’s people had wiped out an entire race to make themselves a little lebensraum, but he’s more or less over that now.

To complicate things a little, but not too much, the chieftain of the neighbouring village Gunnar (Ron Perlman) comes back, convinced that Rothgar’s warrior have killed his people and determined to get revenge. We, of course, know the real enemy is not human and that they will have to band together to kill it, although as the hero of the movie always gets to kill the monster with the help of feisty girlfriend, I supposed it doesn’t matter if they have ten men or a thousand on their side.

We also know that there’s a love triangle here that is going to need to get resolved. No prizes for guessing how that happens.

Watching “Outlander” you keep having flashbacks to all the other movies that you’ve seen all these things in. There’s even an orphaned child (Bailey Maughan) based on the wild kid in the Mad Max movies. In a moment of attempted wit, the kid reveals his name is Eric. Eric the Viking. If you don’t know what they are getting at here, Google it. Or maybe don’t bother. It’s not that spectacular an in-joke.

As is usual in these movies too, the men look grungy and unwashed, the women all look like they’ve just climbed, glowing out of the bath, or at least the young ones do.

There isn’t much reason to see this film, although I can always watch John Hurt, and there’s a warmth and sexiness about Sophia Myles that’s appealing.

The main problem is that neither the writing nor the directing has any flair. Of course, the film is hinting that the alien equates to Grendel and Kainan might be the origin of Beowulf, but there isn’t a convincing attempt to make this the world of Beowulf or of the Vikings. In its flat directing and predictable art direction it reminds you more of an episode of “Hercules” of “Xena the Warrior Princess” on TV.

Of course, you can look at the concept and think that Vikings versus aliens was bound to lead to a lousy movie, but I don’t think that was necessarily the case at all. After all, Stanley Kubrick showed us our primate ancestors confronting aliens in “2001 A Space Odyssey” and fully captured the wonder and lack of comprehension as well as producing a great piece of cinema.

The lesson here is that if you are going to begin with a great idea, throw the Hollywood rule book away, because otherwise it always sends you down predictable paths. This film could have had so much that was original and intriguing. In the end, nothing here is original or intriguing.

The story shows the beginning of the war between the vampires and the lycans.

Well I was a little unimpressed with this one. I guess I just didn’t care about how the war started and really thought the forbidden love between Sonja and Lucian has been done way too many times before. Granted the effects were pretty cool and there were some bloody fight scenes but I’m not a fan of werewolves and this movie focused more on them than the vampires. I would much rather see a vampire flick.

I’ve gotta admit that I haven’t really loved this series since the first one. The lack of Kate Beckinsale (aside from the cool connection to the first film in the end) makes me sad as well but Rhona Mitra almost makes up for it. The story is really good though but it makes me wonder as to the tone of the previous films. It’s been awhile since I’ve watched them but I thought the lycans were the ‘bad guys’ and this movie shows just how they have reason to be pissed. Kept as slaves by the vampires, their fight to destroy their captors makes sense. Doesn’t that take away from the effect of the other films though? Correct me if I’m wrong here since my brain can only hold so much film information!

Overall it’s well made, the story is tight and Bill Nighy in anything is awesome. If you can get past the tired cliche of forbidden lovers destined to never be together than you’ll probably enjoy this one.

Under the marquee – Will

It’s been a while since there has been a round-up of what’s in production on this fine film blog. And with an abundance of sequels, prequels and sequel prequel prequels on the horizon, I’ve decided to focus on the more interesting and innovative offerings currently in development – just to remind Hollywood that people actually CAN cope with a new story/character/franchise every now and again without weeping uncontrollably for hours and shaking in a corner, afraid and lonely.

First is news that filming of the latest Martin Scorsese/Leonardo Di Caprio shindig, Shutter Island, is well under way, with Empire unveiling a gripping set shot of the great man and his cast shooting away merrily. The film’s premise follows Di Caprio and fellow US Marshall Mark Ruffalo as they travel to the eponymous location in search of a vanished murderess who has recently escaped from a psychiatric hospital. By all accounts the plot is truly mental and twists and turns in just about every direction imaginable. Scorsese is apparently going all out with this one, following on from the Departed’s Oscar success and going for all kinds of weird, crazy-man techniques to get this made. The film is due for release early October over here.

Hot on the heels of Napoleon Dynamite comes the equally exlposive Black Dynamite. Offensive, rude, crude and brutal, this spoof blaxploitation flick looks like it could sneak in under the radar to become this year’s hit cult comedy. You can check out the fully-offensive red band trailer here, but it contains naughty words and rude bits, so it’s brilliant.

Neil Marshall is an excellent director. Dog Soldiers was fun, The Descent was the first horror film to really blow me away for a good five years and his upcoming historical-thriller-come-creepy-cool film, Centurion, looks just as promising. The premise is ace: Michael Fassbender (300, Hunger) stars as part of the mysterious Roman Ninth Legion, who ventured over Hadrian’s Wall into Scotland to fight the Scots and vanished forever… Although Wikipedia (where I do none of my research) laughs in the face of this historical nonsense it still makes for a cool pitch, with Marshall going down the line of the Romans being picked off by a mysterious presence in the woods. I’ve got faith in Marshall, keep your eye on this one

More historical tomfoolery is also in the pipeline with Outlander, a sci-fi Viking story starring Jesus. The film, directed by newcomer American, Howard McCain, will stand back and watch the madness as a humanoid from the future played by James Caviezel (the guy with the beard from The Passion of The Christ) falls from space and is taken prisoner by Vikings. According to the Guardian, McCain is a big Beowulf fan and you can expect plenty of mythical undertones as our misplaced alien attempts to warn his captors of a monster called Moorwen and all the terrible things that lie in wait for them. Interestingly though, there’s promise of a back story in which the alien’s race have a long, bitter history of persecuting the monster and it really has good reason to be annoyed. I promise none of that was made up.

Finally there’s Zombieland, a horror-comedy starring Woody Harrelson as a zombie fighter named Albuquerque fighting for survival in a world overrun by the pesky living dead. Harrelson makes up one half of a pair of mismatched survivors in this tale of friendship and redemption. There’s some cool set pictures on Flickr here which look pretty interesting. I like Woody Harrelson, mainly because he is absolutely mental. My fondness of him has increased ten fold after reading this story of him attacking a photographer who he claimed he mistook for a zombie. The good folk at filmjunk have it all here along with the most fantastic PR statement ever released and the following video of the whole affair. Enjoy.

C’est la première fois que je me rends à une projection à 16h00 de l’après-midi et je suis curieuse de voir combien de gens viennent au Festival à cette heure là. Il y a effectivement peu de monde pour voir le film danois de Kasper Barfoed. Il faut dire qu’une fois de plus, le soleil est au rendez-vous et qu’il commence à faire bien bien chaud à l’intérieur des bâtiments…

The Candidate de Kasper Barfoed (2008)

Jonas, jeune avocat à la carrière prometteuse a suivi la voie de son père. Il est d’ailleurs le meilleur candidat pour le remplacer depuis que celui-ci a tragiquement disparu dans un accident de voiture. Jonas est persuadé que la dernière affaire défendue et perdue par son père n’y est pas étrangère. Et il n’a peut-être pas tout à fait tord puisqu’il se retrouve lui-même impliqué dans un homicide dont il n’a pas souvenir, gênant n’est-il pas ? Il ne lui reste que très peu de temps avant de prouver son innocence.
Pour un réalisateur inconnu et aussi jeune (décidément), Kandidaten répond au cahier de charge d’un bon thriller psychologique. Tension, retournement de situation, recherche dans la mise en scène et dans la texture (la pellicule a été traitée pour obtenir un grain grossier), tous les ingrédients sont là. L’acteur Nikolaj Lie Kaas (acteur attitré de Anders Thomas Jensen) interprète brillamment cet avocat contre qui tout semble se retourner. Une belle mise en bouche pour la suite de la soirée.

Outlander de Howard McCain

Prenez des vikings et un étranger venu mystérieusement du futur. Mélangez méticuleusement les deux en y intégrant un seul élément féminin pour deux jeunes hommes. Ajoutez un soupçon de loyauté et un Roi. Saupoudrez le tout de grosses méchantes créatures qui ressemblent à des dragons ayant croisé Alien. Laissez reposer l’ensemble 115 minutes et servez sans plus attendre, le public du Festival va adorer !

Outlander a tout du bon mauvais film, taillé sur mesure pour le public du Bifff : suffisamment mauvais que pour en rire et néanmoins divertissant que pour ne pas s’endormir. On s’amusera à noter en passant la présence de John Hurt qui a visiblement besoin d’agrandir sa piscine et de Ron Perlman pour la seconde fois au cours du même Festival (lire la chronique des Chroniques mutantes de Simon Hunter projeté le vendredi 10 avril).
Allez, on s’est bien marré quand même.

Red de Trygve A. Diesen & Lucky McKee

Le vieux Av et son chien Red se délassent au bord d’une rivière. Ce moment de paix est perturbé par l’arrivée de trois gamins stupides et méchants… tellement méchants que l’un d’eux, le leader du groupe, armé d’une carabine ne trouve rien de mieux que de descendre le chien sans aucun motif. En une fraction de seconde, Av a perdu tout ce qu’il avait de précieux, sa femme et son fils ayant disparus dans un incendie quelques années plus tôt. Il ne lui reste plus qu’à retrouver les coupables et d’essayer de faire appel aux forces de l’ordre. Lorsqu’il retrouve les familles des gamins, les parents ne veulent rien savoir et la police ne semble d’aucune utilité dans ce genre de délit. Av va devoir se débrouiller autrement.

Avec un scénario pareil, le film Red partait sur de très bonnes bases. L’acteur Brian Cox, quoiqu’un peu vieilli, a suffisamment d’expérience derrière lui pour tenir tête à ce genre de rôle tandis que le réalisateur Lucky McKee, qui avait marqué le Festival en 2003 avec son film May (et qui était reparti avec un Corbeau d’argent sous le bras) promettait de beaux lendemains. Oui, mais cela ne semble pas suffire car Red manque de rythme et d’un petit je ne sais quoi pour en faire un bon film. L’histoire est belle mais n’arrive pas à se positionner entre le drame psychologique, les personnages n’étant pas suffisamment analysés, et le thriller, trop mou et qui n’aboutit pas. Il aurait mieux fallu faire l’un ou l’autre pour donner plus de profondeur à ce film de fin de soirée. Finalement, « Red is dead ».

C’est la première fois que je me rends à une projection à 16h00 de l’après-midi et je suis curieuse de voir combien de gens viennent au Festival à cette heure là. Il y a effectivement peu de monde pour voir le film danois de Kasper Barfoed. Il faut dire qu’une fois de plus, le soleil est au rendez-vous et qu’il commence à faire bien bien chaud à l’intérieur des bâtiments…

The Candidate de Kasper Barfoed (2008)

Jonas, jeune avocat à la carrière prometteuse a suivi la voie de son père. Il est d’ailleurs le meilleur candidat pour le remplacer depuis que celui-ci a tragiquement disparu dans un accident de voiture. Jonas est persuadé que la dernière affaire défendue et perdue par son père n’y est pas étrangère. Et il n’a peut-être pas tout à fait tord puisqu’il se retrouve lui-même impliqué dans un homicide dont il n’a pas souvenir, gênant n’est-il pas ? Il ne lui reste que très peu de temps avant de prouver son innocence.
Pour un réalisateur inconnu et aussi jeune (décidément), Kandidaten répond au cahier de charge d’un bon thriller psychologique. Tension, retournement de situation, recherche dans la mise en scène et dans la texture (la pellicule a été traitée pour obtenir un grain grossier), tous les ingrédients sont là. L’acteur Nikolaj Lie Kaas (acteur attitré de Anders Thomas Jensen) interprète brillamment cet avocat contre qui tout semble se retourner. Une belle mise en bouche pour la suite de la soirée.

Outlander de Howard McCain

Prenez des vikings et un étranger venu mystérieusement du futur. Mélangez méticuleusement les deux en y intégrant un seul élément féminin pour deux jeunes hommes. Ajoutez un soupçon de loyauté et un Roi. Saupoudrez le tout de grosses méchantes créatures qui ressemblent à des dragons ayant croisé Alien. Laissez reposer l’ensemble 115 minutes et servez sans plus attendre, le public du Festival va adorer !

Outlander a tout du bon mauvais film, taillé sur mesure pour le public du Bifff : suffisamment mauvais que pour en rire et néanmoins divertissant que pour ne pas s’endormir. On s’amusera à noter en passant la présence de John Hurt qui a visiblement besoin d’agrandir sa piscine et de Ron Perlman pour la seconde fois au cours du même Festival (lire la chronique des Chroniques mutantes de Simon Hunter projeté le vendredi 10 avril).
Allez, on s’est bien marré quand même.

Red de Trygve A. Diesen & Lucky McKee

Le vieux Av et son chien Red se délassent au bord d’une rivière. Ce moment de paix est perturbé par l’arrivée de trois gamins stupides et méchants… tellement méchants que l’un d’eux, le leader du groupe, armé d’une carabine ne trouve rien de mieux que de descendre le chien sans aucun motif. En une fraction de seconde, Av a perdu tout ce qu’il avait de précieux, sa femme et son fils ayant disparus dans un incendie quelques années plus tôt. Il ne lui reste plus qu’à retrouver les coupables et d’essayer de faire appel aux forces de l’ordre. Lorsqu’il retrouve les familles des gamins, les parents ne veulent rien savoir et la police ne semble d’aucune utilité dans ce genre de délit. Av va devoir se débrouiller autrement.

Avec un scénario pareil, le film Red partait sur de très bonnes bases. L’acteur Brian Cox, quoiqu’un peu vieilli, a suffisamment d’expérience derrière lui pour tenir tête à ce genre de rôle tandis que le réalisateur Lucky McKee, qui avait marqué le Festival en 2003 avec son film May (et qui était reparti avec un Corbeau d’argent sous le bras) promettait de beaux lendemains. Oui, mais cela ne semble pas suffire car Red manque de rythme et d’un petit je ne sais quoi pour en faire un bon film. Sous le règne des Vikings, un homme venu de l’espace – Kainan – s’écrase sur la Terre, apportant avec lui une créature terrifiante, un prédateur extraterrestre connu sous le nom de Moorwen. Alors que la bête plonge les environs dans le chaos, les vikings, d’abord suspicieux envers ce mystérieux étranger, s’associent bientôt à Kainan pour en venir à bout. Lui seul pourra les mener à la victoire…

Ce film, sortie directement en vidéo chez nous alors qu’en Angleterre ou Espagne il a bénéficier d’une sortie en salle, est franchement une bonne surprise. Howard McCain nous démontre que même avec un budget assez riquiqui ( comme le kiki de Lyricis! Paye ton jeu de mots moisie^^) il peut nous servir un film qui tien vraiment bien la route. Certe le pitch du film est simple, avec des personnages stéréotypé à mort, mais il en demeure pas moin qu’on sent un certain amour dans ce film qui fait qu’on s’attache facilement au personnages.

Pour moi Outlander est LE film d’héroic-fantasy de ce début d’année. Je sais c’est pas vraiment un film de fantasy car il y a de la S.F dedans mais vue que la majorité de l’histoire ce passe chez nos amis adorateurs de Thor, on pourrait dire que c’est plus de la fantasy que de la SF mais la n’est pas le debat.

En plus la créature qu’a fait Patrick Tatopoulos, à un trés bon design, les effets spéciaux sont correct a part un ou deux plan foireux et il y a même Ron Perlman (certe il a un temps d’apparition assez court) alors que demander de plus.

Perso j’ai prit le Blu-ray est la qualité de l’image est superbe, par contre le son a tendance à monter lors des scénes d’action ce qui  n’est pas vraiment génant. Etant pas  vraiment bien équiper je ne peut pas vous dire qu’elle est la meilleur piste sonore.

Pour ce qui est de la navigation c’est beau…mais pas pratique car les textes sont vraiment écrits trop petit, j’ai dut me rapprocher de ma télévision pour voir sur quelle bonus j’allais -_-.

Niveau bonus, le Blu-ray est mieux fournis que l’édition dvd ( 27 scénes coupées pour le Blu-ray contre 5 pour le dvd ^^). Donc nous avons droit comme j’ai dit à une foison de scéne coupées mais aussi à pas mal de dessins préparatoire, d’ animatique ainsi que de quelques effets spéciaux numérique.

Le seul gros regret que j’ai c’est qu’on est pas un making off mais je ne désespére pas d’en voir un inclu dans un éventuel Director Cut.

Si ustedes han visto ya: Guerrero nº13, Alien y Beowulf, no la infumable de Christopher Lambert sino la infumable de Robert Zemeckis, ya han visto esta película y se pueden ahorrar el trago. Sinceramente es como un gran refrito de estas tres películas, salvando las distancias con la aceptable, Guerrero nº13, y la obra maestra, Alien. Por desgracia de estas tiene más similitudes en rasgos del argumento, que en su calidad de historia o dirección, y para rematarlo aún tiene muchos más parecidos con la terrible Beowulf. Lo cual, no es muy alentador.

Keinan y Wulfric

No es un film este, que tenga una gran cantidad de fallos. El problema viene dado de los clichés y las “radioformulas” repetidas hasta la saciedad en muchísimas otras películas, hasta el punto de copiar algunas escenas prácticamente al dedillo. La búsqueda de la sensiblería con la trágica historia del protagonista, el surgimiento del nuevo amor y su bonita historia con el niño, no hace más que recordarnos a otras mil películas. Todo esto la convierte en predecible y en puntos aburrida, ya que no aporta nada nuevo.

Las actuaciones son decentes pero sin resaltar, al menos no le restan a la película, pero desde luego tampoco le suma. A mi gusto, el diseño de la criatura deja muchísimo que desear y podría haber estado mucho mejor. Y lo mejor, es sin duda, la ambientación vikinga, que siempre resulta un aliciente interesante y a lo único que sacarle jugo. Especialmente me gusto la escena de los escudos durante la gran cena.

Desde luego, hay películas de este género muchísimo más entretenidas y buenas. Así que no encuentro excesivas razones como para que se paren a darle al play excepto que no tengan ninguna otra cosa a mano para ver.

Pourquoi parlons nous de ce guss, ce demanderont certains ? Et bien c’est que le monsieur est mis au devant de la scéne avec la sortie demain de Outlander, vous savez le film de vikings et d’extraterrestre, et aussi de sa contribution au scénario du prochain Conan.

Donc demain sort enfin Dragon ba…euh..non sort enfin Outlander. Mélange improbable d’un film historique et d’un film de SF, Outlander n’en reste pas moin un projet casse-gueule et  malgré le casting plutot correcte,  les distributeurs on préférer lui réserver une sortie directement en dvd et blu-ray dans notre charmant pays.

Je ne voudrait pas trop m’avancer en disant que le film m’ a l’air d’être un honnête divertissement, bien plus que la daube qui sera projeter sur les écrans demain.

La petite bande annonce du film pour vous faire une idée et ensuite passons à Conan.

Howard Mc Cain a donner une interview pour la magazine Première où il nous explique un peu plus sur son implication sur le projet de l’adaptation du célébre cimmérien.

Voici quelque extrait de l’interview et par Crom ça annonce du bon ^^.

“contrairement à ce que j’ai pu lire sur internet, Dirk et moi n’avons pas réécrit le script de Thomas Dean Donnelly et Joshua Oppenheimer. Au contraire ! Les producteurs parlent de réaliser deux films l’un après l’autre, deux films qui n’auraient rien à voir entre eux mais qui seraient produits en même temps”

“Brett Ratner est effectivement attaché au projet ( NDRL : a celui du script de Thomas Dean Donnelly et Joshua Oppenheimer ) . Mais comme il mène de front de nombreux projets, on ne sait toujours pas s’il pourra réaliser le film. Ce que j’en pense ? Hum…. Eh bien, disons que je croise les doigts pour que les voeux des fans s’exaucent, si vous voyez ce que je veux dire”

“Nous voulions revenir aux romans d’origine, capturer la puissance des livres de Robert Howard ; j’adore les films avec Schwarzenegger, mais je les trouve trop soft, presque gentillets. J’ai lu certaines versions, où il y avait même de l’humour… Moi, je n’avais pas envie de rire ! Conan est un héros démesuré, un homme extrême qui ne connait pas la mesure et qui se définit par la violence de ses sentiments : la passion, la tristesse, la mélancolie, sa droiture et son code de l’honneur très strict. C’est un bloc ! Du coup, notre scénario est plus sombre, plus ample et plus violent que le film de Milius “.

Donc on a enfin l’espoir de voir adapter à l’écran un vrai film de Conan bien sombre et bien…barbare.

Howard McCain, escritor de la reciente Underworld: Rise of the Lycans y de la proxima entrega de Conan, nos trae esta cinta de ciencia ficcion, que se ambienta en la epoca de los vikingos. Sin pecar de pretencioso, los vikingos parecen sacados de algun video de MTV: pulcros, bellos y con actitudes modernas. En si, es un defecto que se ve en la mayoria de las peliculas de este tipo, recordando en este momento, a Pathfinder. Mas alla de esto, la estructura de la cinta se mantiene en pie gracias a una historia firme que no deja demasiados huecos argumentales ni demasiados espacios en blanco para que la dinamica caiga en el aburrimiento. Hay mucha accion, las escenas denotan que hay una buena produccion en juego, y los efectos especiales estan bien realizados, sobre todo si hablamos del diseño de personajes de los monstruos. Retomando la historia, se puede decir que es bastante original en su concepto, logrando asi mezclar la ciencia ficcion con la mitologia. El protagonista de la pelicula es James Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ, Unknown, Deja Vu), y le siguen la bella Sophia Myles (Underworld, Tristan + Isolde, Art School Confidential), Jack Huston (Spartacus, Shrooms, Shrink), el emblematico John Hurt (Alien, Hellboy, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) y la aparicion especial de Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Blade II, Enemy at the Gates).
Entretenida y convincente cinta para pasar un buen rato, aunque nos deja con sabor a poco.

Sinopsis: Hace cientos de años los poderosos vampiros combatían con dureza a los licántropos, fuertes bestias salvajes que rodeaban su fortaleza. Con el tiempo, los vampiros lograron crear híbridos entre los humanos y esas fieras, utilizándolos como mano de obra para los más crueles trabajos y para su defensa. Sin embargo Lucian, el líder de estos seres, tenía la férrea voluntad de liberar a los suyos del yugo de los vampiros. Para ello contó con la ayuda de Sonja, una princesa vampira con la que mantenía una relación en secreto.

Crítica: Underworld es al cine de vampiros lo que la pasarela de Milán al mundo de la moda. Diseño y estilo priman sobre todo lo demás, dejando el resto en un discreto segundo plano. Tan discreto que, en ocasiones, parece que factores vitales en una producción, simplemente no están. Esta tercera parte, tal vez por ese miedo a quemar la fórmula, tal vez por algunas salidas -huídas- vitales para la saga, rompe con el devenir natural de los acontecimientos en la franquicia -de haberlos- y se centra en el pasado de sus personajes. Allí, en ese medievo de cartón-piedra, el ambiguo villano al que hemos conocido como Lucian, se nos disfraza de héroe rebelde que busca la libertad de su pueblo, y que al mismo tiempo, mantiene una relación amorosa -sexo a cámara lenta mediante- con una vampira al más puro estilo Romeo y Julieta. Michael Sheen está estupendo, alejado de papeles más intelectuales -léase David Frost- en los que le hemos visto manejándose con solvencia hace bien poco, acompañado por una Rhona Mitra que, aunque no conseguirá hacer olvidar a algunos a la frágil Kate Beckinsale, sigue cumpliendo perfectamente con su función. Mitra está dura, fría y seductora, todo al mismo tiempo, y nada más. ¿Acaso se le exige otra cosa? En absoluto. Caso raro el de Mitra, que ha pasado de modelo publicitaria a admirada estrella del cine de acción casi sin enterarnos. La chica ha caído bien y pide a gritos nuevos desafíos dentro del género. ¿Alguien ha dicho -de nuevo- Lara Croft? Pero como ocurría con sus predecesoras, esta Underworld 3 no es para cualquier espectador. Aunque Tatopoulos opta más que Wiseman por la artesanía -y se agradece- y por la historia -buena elección, de haber sido esta algo más que un tópico continuo-, sigue presente esa estética gótica, un tanto acartonada, forzada, y esa agotadora perpetua oscuridad que más que oprimir, cansa. Como en anteriores ediciones de esta guerra, entretenimiento asegurado y nada más. Pero tampoco hace falta buscarles cinco patas al gato. O al licántropo. O a lo que surja.
