HTC Shift tidak seperti UMPC biasa, design UMPC umumnya seperti laptop mini. Designnya agak berbeda, yaitu seperti laptop mini tapi bagian keyboardnya berupa sliding dan bisa membentuk sudut 120 derajat,

Di sisi kanan layar terdapat tombol Control Center, tombol pengatur resolusi, micro pad, speaker kanan dan pengaman sensor sidik jari. Di sebelah kiri layar terdapat tombol klik kanan dan klik kiri mouse, speker kiri dan tombol SnapVUE.

SnapVUE adalah mode tampilan seperti di Windows Mobile. Mode ini menampilkan tanggal, jam, kalender, email, SMS, cuaca, daftar pertemuan (appointment), daftar kontak dan setting. Mode ini baru bisa berjalan apabila system operasi Windows Vista sudah aktif lebih dulu. Setelah itu meskipun system Windows Vista di-shutdown, mode Snap VUE bisa diaktifkan. Dengan mode SnapVUE baterai lebih irit, vendornya mengklaim dengan mode ini HTC Shift mampu siaga hingga dua hari.

LAYAR
Pada saat berjalan di system operasi Windows Vista, sangat terasa ketajaman layar yang berukuran 7 inci. Karena menggunakan chipset display adapter Mobile Intel 945/GU Express Chipset Family, yaitu kartu grafis khusus untuk perangkat UMPC. Selain itu yang menarik adalah layarnya sudah mendukung full touchscreen untuk mengoperasikan fungsi-fungsinya.
Ketika memutar video dengan resolusi 640 x 480 pixel dan bit rate 802 kbps berjalan mulus, dan audio sangat jelas. Pada kondisi outdoor layar agak kurang jelas

KEYPAD
Yang pas adalah disebut keyboard. Karena semua tombol-tombolnya sudah seperti di laptop atau PC, hanya minus tombol print screen dan pause/break. Keunggulan lain HTC Shift adalah adanya on-screen keyboard, writing pad dan character pad, karena layarnya mengadopsi touch screen.Respon touch screen memuaskan, mengetik dengan keyboard sama seperti laptop atau PC. Keterbatasan ruang membuat beberapa tombol memiliki fungsi ganda dengan menekan Fn.

AUDIO
Mendengarkan lagu bisa melalui aplikasi Windows Media Player 11 atau menggunakan Origami Central. Kedua aplikasi ini tak perlu diragukan kualitas dan fitur-fiturnya untuk memutar file musik. Mendukung beragam format musik, standar dari kedua aplikasi tersebut. Speaker menggunakan chipset audio realtek high definition audio, produksi Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

MICROSOFT OFFICE
Unit HTC Shift yang kami terima sudah terinstal Microsoft Office dengan lengkap, seperti Microsoft Office Access 2007, Excel 2007, Outlook 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Publisher 2007, dan Word 2007. Pokoknya HTC Shift bisa diandalkan bekerja “berat” untuk urusan kantor meski beratnya kurang dari separuh dari laptop biasa.Untuk menggunakan aplikasi terbaru dari Microsoft ini, otomatis harus besar pula requirementnya, misalnya RAM harus 1 GB.

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER MOBILE
Pemutar musik dan video yang umumnya sudah embedded dengan system operasi Microsoft Windows. Tak perlu diragukan lagi untuk urusan utilitas dan performanya. Baik untuk memutar musik dan video. Pengujian: ketika memutar video dengan resolusi 640 x 480 pixel dan bit rate 802 kbps berjalan mulus, dan audio sangat jelas. Meski tak perlu menyetel equalizer, kualitas suara terdengar bagus.

ORIGAMI CENTRAL
Sebuah aplikasi untuk mengakses dengan cepat ke Internet, Media, dan Program. Jika klik Internet ada dua shorcut, yaitu browser dan Feeds. Sedangkan jika klik Media, di bawahnya akan tampil pilihan untuk mendengar musik, melihat foto atau menonton video. Untuk mempercepat akses ke program-program lain kita bisa meng-kustomisasi di Programs, kita bisa menambah atau mengurangi program favorit yang kita inginkan.

MESSAGING
Agar lebih efisien pada saat menggunakan messaging, baik untuk SMS maupun email sebaiknya kita berada pada mode SnapVUE. Dari segi penggunaan power lebih irit, dari segi tampilan lebih mudah terbaca, untuk menambah akun baru juga tersedia setting wizard. Juga mendukung tipe akun email yang beragam, seperti outlook, akun dari ISP (POP/IMAP), web-based email seperti Gmail, Yahoo!Mail Plus, AOL dan lain-lain.

INTERNET
Mengarungi dunia maya bisa dimana saja dengan perangkat yang ringan, tapi dengan akses yang super cepat. Akses internet bisa lewat HSDPA dengan kecepatan hingga 3,6Mbps atau lewat hotspot WiFi, tinggal pilih. Browser bisa pakai Internet Explorer, atau browser lewat Origami Central. Bedanya jika browsing lewat Origami kita bisa kendalikan layar dengan full touch screen. Pengujian: akses lewat WiFi hotspot mudah untuk log in, browsing dengan IE dan pakai browser di Origami Central.

KONEKTIFITAS
Selain konektifitas internet lewat 3G/HSDPA dan WiFi, HTC Shift dilengkapi konektifitas bluetooth dan kabel USB 2.0. Untuk konektifitas lewat infrared sudah ditinggalkan, mungkin karena transfer data lewat infrared jauh ketinggalan dibanding WiFi, bluetooth, dan lainnya.
Kami melakukan uji coba dengan mentransfer file dari USB flashdisk sebesar 63 MB hanya membutuhkan waktu 7,91 detik, transfer file MP3 sebesar 4,58 MB dari HTC Shift ke handset lain memakan waktu 3 menit 32 detik.

WEATHER
Aplikasi untuk mengetahui keadaan cuaca hari ini dan prakiraan empat hari kemudian. Terdapat icon shorcut yang terpampang jelas di menu utama, yang berbentuk matahari. BP mencoba mengetahui kondisi cuaca di Jakarta dengan menyeleksi kota ini terlebih dahulu di kolom city. Begitu terhubung ke server Accuweather.com lewat jaringan internet (3G/HSDPA/WiFi), maka
terlihat kondisinya.Fitur weather cukup akurat. Memerlukan koneksi internet dan memakan biaya GPRS untuk update kondisi cuaca.

KINERJA
Kinerja baterai jika digunakan pada sisitem operasi Windows Vista hanya mampu bertahan 2 jam. Untuk mengantisipasinya dalam keadaan stand by sebaiknya berada pada mode Snapview. Kualitas audio/video cukup bagus baik dari fitur maupun outputnya.

Looks like Telus, has got the drop on the HTC Touch Diamond on the side of the pond that’s not Europe. Although it’s a CDMA version, and you’ll have to sign up for a three year contract (Eek), if the Diamond is forever, for you, you’ll be migrating for sure.

If you’ve been following the news you’ll know it’s an awesomely speced WinMo device, It’s got a 528 MHz processor, ROM: 256 MB
RAM: 192 MB DDR SDRAM and WM 6.1, nothing to be sneezed at there right?

So how did Canada manage to wangle the first release of the Diamond?

The lingering question in my mind is whether the update will be available for the X9500 (the version I have). And has the X9500 been replaced by the X9501? Only the X9000 and X9501 are listed on the Switch Off, Stay Connected website.

Additionally, Rogers and HTC will deliver a software update to customers  within three months, which will enable GPS connectivity and robust map and navigation capabilities through TeleNav.

HTC Shift 1

Per ragioni che sarebbe lungo spiegare, questo cucciolo di pc e’ al momento presente sul mio tavolo.
Si chiama Mustrum Ridcully, Rosy per gli amici, per seguire la tradizione dei nomi pratchettiani, ed e’ tanto tenero.

Esteticamente e’ molto bello. La confezione ricorda molto quella di un oggetto di lusso e, effettivamente, è un grazioso oggettino di lusso.
Nel modello che ho io, a differenza di quanto si deve nella foto, lo schermo non s’innalza e diventa un po’ difficoltoso da usare.
Non amo particolarmente la tastiera piccolissima e tirerei un velo pietoso sul fatto che i due tasti del mouse siano sul lato opposto a quello della touch pad.
Qualcuno qui ha assunto un’aria piuttosto perplessa quando, volendo confermare una cosa, si e’ vista cambiare la risoluzione del video.
Poi ha capito che era piu’ comodo usare l’allegato bastoncino e sfruttare il touch screen.

Per chi è comodo? Per chi viaggia molto e vuole essere sempre connesso. O per chi voglia fare il figheiro da trasporto.

A quel punto avrete 800 g di peso, una batteria che dura piu’ o meno come quella del portatile, la possibilita’ di avere le stesse applicazioni che si caricano su un pc. Piu’ lente, meno performanti ma ci sono.

Non fatevi neppure sfiorare dal pensiero che si possano tirare giu’ slide mentre si viaggia perchè diventereste pazzi non avendo mouse e dovendo usare il bastoncino.

Va bene per accedere al web e se si deve scrivere poco, e’ assolutamente sconsigliato se si vogliono provare applicazioni nuove.

Esiste la possibilità di effettuarne il jailbreaking ma, onestamente, non mi ci sono messa.

Per quanto sembri paradossale, e’ piu’ comodo scrivere mail con l’ipod touch che con questo. Ma non ditelo in giro

Anche il sito Telefonino.net pubblica su Youtube una video recensione dello Shift, il nuovo UMPC di HTC. Certo è che, a guardarlo bene, questo prodotto appare veramente compatto e ben fatto. Interessante è la possibilità di utilizzare il dispositivo in modalità Windows Vista (eventualmente con interfaccia Origami) o come pocket pc, con switch immediato da un sistema all’altro tramite pressione di un pulsante dedicato. Purtroppo le email gestite da pocket pc non possono essere sincronizzate con l’outlook installato su Windows Vista, se non utilizzando server aziendali basati su Exchange. Dal video non si capisce se è possibile dedicare una parte del disco da 30 gb ad entrambi i sistemi operativi, in modo tale da poterne condividere i dati.
Altra funzione interessante la possibilità di utilizzate il display in modalità interpolata 1024 x 600 pixel o a risoluzione nativa di 800 x 480 px.
Infine, decisamente buona la velocità di connessione del modem HSDPA, con tempi di rendering delle pagine web paragonabili a quelli che si hanno in presenza di una buona ADSL.

Todos nosotros conocemos los smart-phones y sabemos que estos traen un sistema operativo ya sea Windows Mobile, Symbian, Mac (IPhone) y proximamente Android. Cuantos de ustedes han visto uno con Windows Vista. Pues eso es exactamente lo que es el HTC Shift.

Про Glofiish V900 вроде ничего пока не слышно. Зато есть несколько других интересных новостей…

1. HTC объявила о начале продаж HTC Shift. Интересный во всех отношениях аппарат, но… не  моё…  Хотя и поддерживает просто немеряное количество беспроводных протоколов.  Ну не может на нём Vista нормально работать с его характеристиками и её  требованиями.  Продаётся,  как я  понимаю,  через операторов  сотовой связи.  Но  хоть и конкретно меня игрушка  эта не  интересует,  буду  следить  за  развитием  ситуации.

2. HTC представила обновлённый коммуникатор Advantage X7510. А вот эта новость мне по душе! Заменили то, что мне в нём не нравилось с самых первых анонсов: 8-гиговый жёсткий диск на 16-гиговый флеш-накопитель. И заодно изменили клавиатуру. По-моему, кнопок стало даже больше. Осталось только увидеть цену, и ВМЕНЯЕМАЯ замена Qtek 9000 найдена!
3. Sony Ericsson представляет WM-коммуникатор XPERIA X1. А это уже замена Qtek 9100, с недавних пор так же обитающему у меня. Модель весьма и весьма интересная. Клавиатура выглядит достаточно удобной, кнопки не слиты в единую панель, что при таком размере устройства безусловно плюс. Хотя на Qtek 9000 мне более привычны “слитые кнопки”, их размер всё же несколько больше, чем в Qtek 9100. Так что за этим устройством тоже буду следить.

4. Nokia представила 2 новых “мультимедийных компьютера”: Nokia N96 и Nokia N78.   Начну со старшенькой. 16 гигабайт встроенной памяти, да плюс слот microSD – есть где разгуляться меломану… А в остальном – та же N95. А, точно, ущё DVB-H – вещание можно ловить.  Короче, – типичный мультимедийный комбайн “всего понемножку”.  Мне  совершенно  неинтересна…  Вторая  трубка – N78,  по  видимому -  замена  N73.  Но  принципиальной  разницы я  не вижу. Так что – ничего концептуально нового… Жаль.

5. DreamBook Light IL1. Как написано, – конкурент EEE PC.  Без WiFi и с 2 гигабайтами флеш-накопителя и гигабайтом оперативной памяти за 450 долларов? Нет, спаибо. Я за две сотни простейший ииипц возьму… С WiFi, между прочим. Правда, в самой крутой модели можно будет увидеть HDD на 80 гигабайт, но… Это будет уже больше килограмма… Неинтересно.
