Ok,

So over the last few days, I got my Touch Pro back I loaded a cooked rom which was a preview of Windows Mobile 6.5. the interface is great and it looks like Microsoft are heading in the right direction, getting the basics right. Such simple things as bigger buttons for easy finger navigation.

That being said the cooked ROMs I have used all work ok – There are always bugs and little things that either have been left out or simply don’t work.

Because of this I have re-loaded my stock version of Windows Mobile 6.1. and hopefully wait for the official release of Windows Mobile 6.5. Even if Microsoft don’t port it for the Touch Pro, once it releases you can be assured that the cooked roms released thereafter will be more stable and better to use.

Hey, hey, hey – thats right I got my Touch Pro back from Lab88 and after a day there are a few interesting points to note.

My phone got repaired free of charge, and that is great in any lanuage. You would recall that it was bricked and I tried everything to resolve the matter on my own but no luck. I booked it in for nearly three weeks and in those three weeks, HTC has to replace the motherbaord or main board, reload the software and replace the speaker.

Now that it’s back I’m doubled minded about it. I have the BlackBerry which is working great given the fact that is it not 3G, and that my service provider has not activated my BlackBerry Internet Solution and there is no gps license with Vodafone anymore.

The Touch Pro has 3G, video calling, and there are plenty of gps software that would work great on the Touch Pro.

Since I got it back, I have loaded a new rom, so it is no longer Windows Mobile 6.1 but rather Windows Mobile 6.5. The rom I loaded works much better than most 6.5 roms out there, I will provide links to the rom tomorrow. I will also include detailed instructions on what to do when flashing your rom.

Lets hope it all goes well.

I can’t help but write this during office hours because I am very annoyed by this weird bug that causes me to lose my Favourite contacts on my phone every single time it happens. Here’s what happens to my phone whenever I’m in the office:

• My Touch Pro is hooked up to my PC to charge & sync emails, etc all day in the office
• It syncs every once in awhile to get updated mails from Microsoft Outlook 2007
• When a sync happens lately this error message pops up ever so often

There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost.

• The phone goes through entire re-sync process which takes ages and the end result is that I lose all my list of favourite contact numbers every single time it occurs; meaning I have to select my favourite numbers again & again & again

Just a few days ago a weird thing happened where lots of contacts on my phone went missing but they still existed on Outlook and a sync didn’t do anything to solve the problem. I restored the contacts to my phone from my Mac using Missing Sync but when I did a sync with my office laptop Windows Mobile Device Manager duplicated the contacts on both my phone and Outlook 2007! Gaaaaah! To fix the problem I had to manually remove the duplicate numbers but the good thing was I also did some spring-cleaning on my contact list at the same time. Sigh. Maybe I should get an iPhone even though I am quite happy with how Windows Mobile works when it comes to doing actual “work” stuff. I really love the physical QWERTY keyboard on the Touch Pro and I hate touchscreen-based keyboards. What’s going on here? It’s such a weird problem that’s widespread and no one seems to be doing anything about it. *looks over at Microsoft and other smartphone makers*

The dumb ass solution...

It is annoying and I am pretty sick of having to go thru this on an almost daily basis lately. One suggestion that I found online was to turn of email sync which is kinda stupid as the reason why I have a smartphone is so I can stay up to date on emails on Outlook without having to pop open my notebook all the time. The most useful thing about synching emails is so I can read them and catch up on stuff when I’m on the go. So much for working smart! *sighs* An official forum thread I looked up had no proper solution too. Gyaaah!

I’ve been looking into this on and off for months but to no avail. Has anyone come across any solution to this problem? It’s A N N O Y I N G ! ! ! !  H A L P ! ! !

It’s been a long day today but thankfully a good one. I’ve been out of the house since 12pm at both IJN and KL General Hospital and am very, very relieved & thankful that my dad’s angiogram went without a hitch. The blockage is mild and treatable through medication plus changes in diet I guess. My mom should be discharged tomorrow too so yeah it’s a huge relief that both my parents will be out of hospital too.

My HTC Touch Pro

I’m thankful for the hi-tech stuff I have that have been great tools especially when I’m on the go. My battle-scarred HTC Touch Pro is truly a God-send as I’ve been keeping tabs on work emails as they come in. The only thing is that I’ve gotta re-organise them on my work laptop again cos’ my office isn’t on Exchange Server. Here’s how I work around the limitations I have currently with work email with Windows Mobile 6.1’s email client.

1. My HTC Touch Pro syncs normally with Outlook 2007 so that’s no bother.
2. I configure a separate email account that checks my work email account every 30 minutes or so. Think of this as a temporary place on my phone for mails that come in when I’m away from my PC. Of course for this to work your PC needs to either be off or Outlook set to offline mode so that emails stay on the server.
3. Of course my phone is also configured with separate accounts for both Gmail & Hotmail for personal emails.

It’s a horrible workaround I know but that’s how I get around not having push or MS Exchange for work. The strange thing is that I really find it funny that I can’t get the default  account that’s set to sync with Outlook to pull email in and still remain in sync  but I figure it’s probably a limitation with Windows Mobile 6.1.

The Touch Pro has been such a great tool and with all the family emergencies that I’ve been having in the past 2 years, it’s been a great companion for both work & play. In fact I even use it as a modem both on my Windows 7 machine & my Macbook. It’s a fairly simple process getting a Windows Mobile smartphone to work as a modem for my Mac by setting up Bluetooth PAN (Personal Area Network) that my Macbook can connect to.

As much as Apple & Microsoft like to bash each other in their ad campaigns, it’s a nice surprise to learn that both Windows & Mac OS X actually play really nicely with each other. I haven’t yet gotten around to figuring out how to get Windows 7 to connect to my mobile as a modem via Bluetooth but so far I haven’t had the need for it as it works just fine via USB.

I am thankful today. Really. It’s been a long day. Tiring. But it was worth it to be able to be there for my parents. This guide is going to show you how to remove DRM from iTunes music, convert DRM protected iTunes M4P to MP3 and sync iTunes music to HTC Touch Pro. First, let’s take a look at the multimedia support of HTC Touch Pro:

Video Playback: Windows Media Player
Music Player: MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA, WAV, Windows Media Player

So, if you want to play iTunes M4P, M4A, AAC music on your HTC Touch Pro, you just need to use TuneClone Audio Converter to help you convert the iTunes music to HTC Touch Pro compatible format and then transfer the output files to your HTC Touch Pro.

Now let’s take a look at how it performs to convert the iTunes music to HTC Touch Pro compatible format using TuneClone Audio Converter:

1. Create a new playlist in iTunes.

2. Add the iTunes songs to the playlist.

3. Launch TuneClone Audio Converter. Click the “Settings” tab. In the pop-up window, you can specify output folder, output file name format, output format, etc for the output files. After you get the output music files, connect your HTC Touch HD or Touch Pro to computer via the USB cable, darg and drop the converted music to the music folder, then you can play the iTunes M4P music on your HTC Touch HD, Touch Pro at ease.

Hi y’all

So I decided to walk into my local Vodafone store to check the new HTC Magic, recently launched here in the UK.

I’m impressed with Android and how far its come in such a short time. With a smooth UI and clean crisp functions it makes my blackberry feel ancient lol! BUT I got home and was impressed further by a review I saw for the Magic on YouTube, by a user called ‘edgeable’… It was a pleasure to watch (must have been a pain to put together tho! Lol)

The success of the iPhone has focused smartphone developers’ attention upon touch.  The Blackberry Storm, Palm Pre, T-Mobile G1 (Googlephone) and HTC Touch HD all looked to compete with the iPhone with large screens and touch interfaces.

Under the hood of the Touch HD was Windows Mobile with HTC’s TouchFlo finger-friendly overlay.  Like historical versions of the Palm and Blackberry OSes, Windows Mobile has generally been aimed at stylus+button input which has made it fast for savvy users.  However in an iPhone age greater accessibility is required and Windows Mobile 6.5 aims to achieve this.

We’ll be looking at a pre-release XDA Developers build of WinMo 6.5 Professional on an HTC Touch Pro (Raphael model), so the actual features I describe may be different to the ones available in the full future release.  We will also concentrate on the significant changes from WinMo 6.1, as much of 6.5 is closely related to 6.1.

Honeycomb application launcher

Many early photos of WinMo 6.5 showed the now-famous honeycomb lattice application launcher, designed to create more space between icons and make the easier to target with a finger.  In the version I’m trying the lattice borders are not present but the formation is there.  The icons are far easier to target than in 6.1, I haven’t missed any yet.

Swiping and scrolling

The scrolling action to reveal further pages of applications has been hugely improved.  Finger swipes now scroll the screen with ease, locking at each page if the swipe is gentle or scrolling through multiple pages if stronger.  The top/bottom bouncing effect has been borrowed from the iPhone and it works well.

This also extends within applications, such as Windows Live where mailbox scolling and mail selection has been made far more finger friendly.  Track forward/back changes in Windows Media player are also a side-swipe away.

Pre-6.5 applications currently have variable scolling implementations however.  AvantGo, for example, still scrolls as well as it did before but the new bouncing effect is not present.

Battery life

I’ve noticed a colossal improvement in battery life on the Touch Pro compared to it’s original AT&T 6.1 build.  The Touch Pro will now easily last a full day with regular periods of data usage.

It’s difficult to know what has caused this uptick, possibly it’s due to more efficient CPU or memory calls or perhaps the lack of HTC’s graphics intensive TouchFlo overlay means the system is being taxed less.  It’s certainly a welcome change and makes the Touch Pro a usable phone for my usage pattern.  YMMV.

3G stability improvements

Whilst 6.1 is a pretty stable OS, the Touch Pro previously had sporadic 3G connection issues which required a reboot.  These issues have vanished on this 6.5 version, and data seems to download significantly faster.  Note that I did not change the radio firmware when I installed 6.5.

So far 6.5 has not crashed on me once, but I have rebooted twice over the last two weeks to refresh the system.  Rebooting is definitely faster than with 6.1, but I put that primarily down to not having to launch TouchFlo following the OS boot.

Finger-friendly menus

All of the 6.5 menus have grown to be more finger-friendly.  It’s now easy to hit the target with confidence.  Even though 6.1 on the Touch Pro had some big menus in places, my hit rate in 6.5 has greatly improved and there might be better coding under the hood making this happen.

Everything else

Much of the remaining experience is similar to using 6.1.  The apps I’ve tried to download, such as Google Maps and AvantGo have worked perfectly.

Is it a game changer?

Whether you like the underlying Windows Mobile platform is a matter of personal taste.  Whilst this version of 6.5 has been great to use on the Touch Pro it continues to be hampered by the relatively small screen of most Windows Mobile devices compared to the iPhone.  This means that making Windows Mobile, Blackberry OS or any other small screen device close-in on the iPhone in terms of finger-friendliness will always be a huge task.

The continued breadth of form factors also hampers efforts, although Microsoft is now starting to get more specific on hardware which should help to standardize the platform for developers writing for a more consistent user experience.  RIM had a similarly diffcult experience taking the Blackberry OS and porting it to the Storm, which was received with mixed opinions.

So all I need now is a Touch Pro with a full length screen, same keyboard and only 3-4 oz in weight.  That’s not the Touch Pro2, but perhaps it could be the Touch Pro3…

Fuj. Nejenže je venku střídavě hnusně, ale i nadpis jsem dokázal vymyslet jen takovej nemastnej-neslanej. Asi ze mě konečně slezlo jaro a vlezlo na mě léto, to jsem vždycky línej až hanba Což je docela smůla, protože nám, dálkařům (čili studentům, co si jezděj zadělávat na školní průšvihy nikoliv jen zdaleka, ale takzvaně kombinovaně, neboli dálkově), zkouškové období zdaleka neskončilo, takže mě teď nejčastěji můžete přistihnout při sekání trávy s nějakými skriptama v ruce. Oproti běžnému stavu, kdy štrikuju svetr nebo opravuju notové zápisy sólistům Národní opery

Zbývá mi poslední, na zkouškové otázky nejplodnější předmět. Což o to, naučit se to dá, ale tolik kafe není v lidských silách vypít, natož když se má v učeníschopném stavu udržet malej protiva, že jo Tak jsem se zase vrátil k oblíbené Pepsi Twist Light, což je teda docela sračkovina, čůrat chodím každých patnáct minut, zas na druhou stranu mi nehrozí, že umřu v bolestech na rozsáhlé proleženiny. Já se totiž učím zásadně vleže, což dodává mému snažení takový pikantní lenošivý nádech

Docela nedávno jsem se vybavil novým mazlikem. Oplakal jsem zlobícího tyntyna (ve světě se prodával pod jménem HTC TyTN aka Hermes), naposledy potlapkal jeho téměř necitlivou klávesnici, zazálohoval jeho vnitřnosti k pozdějšímu vytřídění a zhardresetoval (nádherné české slovo, Palacký by ze mě měl radost!) ho. Teď se muckám s velmi výhodně zakoupeným HTC Touch Pro (aka Raphael). Přezdívku mu ještě nikdo nevymyslel, návrhy v komentářích budou vítány A jak už to u zamilovaných chodí, zahrnuju ho teď dárečkama. Tuhle jsem mu koupil i kondom! Je to tak - plánuju ho používat velmi outdoorově, čili nějakou tu kapku by schytal. Dilema, zda to risknout a mít důvod koupit nový stroj po pár týdnech nebo nechodit v dešti do lesa, vyřešil google a dotaz na “vodotěsné pouzdro PDA”. No a když už jsem byl takhle rozhazovačně zfamfrněnej, koupil jsem i antireflexní fólii na displej, takže jsem konečně spokojený – už to neháže prasátka a nevypadá tak ušmudlaně. A kvůli interní GPS a konečnému rozhodnutí nejít do samostatné navigace na geocaching jsem se plácnul přes kapsu a zainvestoval do aplikace Garmin Mobile XT s výbornými mapami TOPO Czech 2. Docela pešek, unáhlil jsem se asi o měsíc, teď jsou k mání za stejnou cenu mapy TOPO Czech 3 a zrovinka tahle jediná kombinace Garmina a map nejde upgradovat – jak jsem smutně zjistil před pár dny

Zas na druhou stranu, děti v Africe mají nafouklý bříška, tak přece nebudu fňukat nad rozlitou aktualizační politikou Garminu a půjdu hrdě vstříc svému osudu se staršími mapami, bať?

Děcka, jinak je mi docela dobře. Přes deštivý víkend, respektive jeho nočnější část, jsem si kompletně vyčistil linuxový koutek hardisku a po všech experimentech s neověřenými repozitáři a alpha verzemi různých aplikací jsem si přeinstaloval svůj srdeční operační systém – openSUSE 11.1. Pravda, úplně jsem zapomněl zazálohovat hesla uložená ve Firefoxu, ale na druhou stranu si ty nejdůležitější ukládám jinam a o zbytek se postará zaslání zapomenutého hesla na e-mail A jestli mi nic nepošlou, dobře, prdím na ně, kdo taky v době celosvětové ekonomické krize potřebuje přístup do internetového bankovnictví, že jo

Evča si posteskla, že lidi málo píšou. Je to tak. Ovšem bráno z jiného úhlu pohledu, pořád ještě se najdou případy, kdy by bylo lepší, kdyby se občas nějaký blog odmlčel, to si člověk nevybere Neboli vzhůru, microsoftí světe, spoj se proti neřádstvu, používej mesík a výhradně značkové přehrávače hudby, pryč s pestrostí a individualita ať jde k čertu, nechť žije jediná správná platforma a ústavně zakotvená vedoucí úloha Steva Ballmera nejen v oblasti IT, ale i v oboru sanitární keramiky, mléčných výrobků a diabetické obuvi! Jen tak bude zajištěna plná kompatibilita toalet, sýrů a bot s tlustší podrážkou s nejlepším, plně 64-bitovým operačním systémem všech dob (název se doplní dle aktuální situace na trhu s ojetými nápady)! The HTC Touch Pro2 is the latest device geared to both the business and personal user.  Utilising the form factor of the original Touch Pro, the Pro2 also has some of the features of the original TyTN II as well as mimicking some of the attributes of the Touch HD.

It would seem that the Pro2 is the best business tool to date, but is it really worth the upgrade from the original Pro?

The HTC Touch Pro2 benefits from a larger VGA display that now measures some 3.6inchs.  The original Touch Pro is just 2.8 and the HD is 3.8, so it is only .2inchs smaller than what has to be HTC’s most successful multimedia device to date.

The Pro2 also has the advantage of a tilting display, something that was lost on the Pro.

Improved features also include a very updated and contact centric TouchFLO 3D interface and a conference call orientated design with a rear speaker on the Pro2, making it an ideal tool for mobile conference calls in different locations, without the need for hard wired conference call systems.

Other than these features, there is little difference.  The underlying operating system is still Windows Mobile 6.1, but the Pro2 will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5, due for release later this year.

Unless you have the desire for the very latest technology or simply wish to show off, there are not that many reasons, (depending upon your justification) to upgrade from the Pro to the Pro2.  However if you are looking for a mobile unit, that can you offer more than just a phone, but with the form factor that is usable, a design which is appealing and from a brand that you can trust, then look no further than the HTC Touch Pro2.

SensorLock is a locking program designed for the HTC Touch Diamond/Pro. Locking and unlocking is done by rotating the phone and unlike most other locking programs, it does not interfere with or remove focus from running applications. A great feature is when the stylus is pulled out when device is asleep, autolock no longer locks the device. I am using this application now and it works as advertised.
