I just successfully upgraded my HTC Touch Dual (known as NIKE in other regions) from windows mobile

I just successfully upgraded my HTC Touch Dual (known as NIKE in other regions) from windows mobile 6.0 to 6.5. It took me the better part of 6 hours to fully research and figure out how to do it. So to help the next person out, here is how to do it (entire process will take about 20minutes)

Note: This is the process of updating a HTC Touch dual. Updating other phone models is very similar. Just find your specific version of Soft SPL, Hard SPL & ROM images. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com to find your model phone.

BIG WARNING: You will need WinXP to do this. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH VISTA OF WIN7. I wasted 5 hours at this point when i bricked my mobile because it will not flash correctly. So find an old WinXP machine just while you are doing this. Also you may want to backup all your existing data. I take no responsibility if you brick your phone.

Step 1. Update the boot loader

The boot loader that is on all mobile phones says what roms are valid for it. Because we are going to be flashing a non-official ROM onto it, we need to replace it. The way to do this is to run a “Soft SPL”, which will temporarily allow you to flash a new bootloader onto your phone (called a Hard SPL).

a) Download the soft SPL onto your phone and run it

go to this forum post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730 and download sspl-1.16-nike.zip.

Read this the first forum post to give you an idea of what we are doing. Copy sspl-1.16-nike.exe to your phone and run it. You will now see a temporary bootloader which will allow you to upgrade your phone’s bootloader. Make sure you have removed your SIM card, SD cards, etc.

b) Unplug/replug the USB

My computer wouldn’t detect the phone until I did this. The boot loader should say USB after you’ve done it.

c) Download the hard SPL (new boot loader)

in the same forum thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2786065&postcount=439, download hardspl-1.22-nike-shipped.zip

On your computer run ROMUpdateUtility.exe. It should step you through updating your bootloader.

Step 2. Updating your windows mobile ROM

This is where you have fun trying to find a custom ROM that has been tweaked for your model phone. I just went with the most recently updated version for my phone

a) Download the ROM

Windows mobile 6.5 ROM for HTC Touch dual http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534205

b) Turn your phone off, and start it up in the boot loader

All phones are different in how they do this. For the HTC it was a matter of holding the camera button while i turned it on

c) run the updater on your PC

This is exactly the same as how we updated the Hard SPL. Once in the boot loader, plug the USB cable in so that the phone says USB. Then run CustomRUU.exe and step through the wizard.

Step 3. Updating your Radio ROM

After you have updated the version of windows mobile on your phone, you will most likely have to update the Radio ROM on your device also. Strange things happen like the camera not working, the phone freezing when you make a call, etc. The phone has an entirely separate linux engine running the phone functions, windows mobile just hooks into it to invoke making a call, doing data connections, etc.

a) find a Radio ROM for your phone

Here are the ones for HTC touch dual http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369502

I went with the latest version that said “highly recommended” next to it.

b) flash it onto your phone the same way you did the windows mobile ROM

Step 4. Enjoy

That is it!

HELP! my phone is bricked

If you do happen to brick your phone, and it is stuck at the boot loader, this may help. It saved my phone when it got stuck at the boot loader http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371154

This time, my post has nothing to do with .NET but rather with an issue that seems to be common, according to my search on the net and I thought that my findings may help people who experience the same issue.

Yesterday morning, I started to have serious issues with my cell phone, a HTC Touch.
Here is the list of issues (that came all together on the same day):

When starting up, it was taking way too long compared to usually (the Windows Mobile 6.1 screen was taking ages before to display the home screen).

The touch screen as it was no longer responding to my orders! For a cell phone that does not have a keyboard, that is rather a serious issue.

My cell phone was no longer recognized by my computer and the ‘cube’ interface was no longer working.

When I tried to access the contacts, the screen was empty and whenever I typed a name it kept displaying “Matching…” and it never comes back with suggestions.

Here are the things I have done and it looks like it is working today… Hope for a long term.

1 – Removed the screen protector: In fact, when I bought it, I put a plastic screen protector. It started to be dirty anyway. As a result, the touch screen was responding intermittently only. All other issues were still there (and I did not expect the cell phone to start up faster just by removing the protector ).

2 – I did a hard reset of the phone following the instructions on the site http://www.flickr.com/photos/ryjones/2193904710/

Well, I lost all my contacts eventually and everything else in my cell phone (notes, documents, photos etc…). I did not really have the choice cause the cell phone could not synchronize anyway and was unusable.

Once the hard reset done, it looks like the cell phone is back again and everything is working perfectly now. I just cross my fingers!

Hope that helps!

Adicionando o repositório do SynCE

Caso contrário, siga a seguinte lógica: “deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/synce/ubuntu VERSÃO main“. Salve e feche o arquivo.

Adicione a chave pública.

Abra o terminal e digite: “sudo apt-get update“

Digite “sudo apt-get install synce-hal synce-gnomevfs synce-gvfs synce-trayicon librra-tools librapi2-tools synce-sync-engine” e reinicie o Nautilus (melhor reiniciar o sistema todo).

Digite “sudo apt-get install multisync-tools opensync-plugin-evolution opensync-plugin-synce multisync0.90“

Na janela que aparecer, clique em “Add member” e selecione “Plugin to syncronize with Windows Mobile 5 and later devices

E no Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala?

No terminal, digite “sudo apt-get install gpe-filemanager“

Após instalar, abra o programa “Aplicativos > Sistema > File Manager”

Digite “synce://” na barra de endereços. E pronto!

No terminal, digite “msynctool –listgroups“. Note que vai aparecer o nome do grupo criado no Multisync

Digite então “msynctool –sync NOME_DO_GRUPO“. E pronto!

Staff Member: Chris Love – MD Clove Technology The purpose of these reviews is to give you a real us

Staff Member: Chris Love – MD Clove Technology

The purpose of these reviews is to give you a real user guide and feedback on using the device. It is not a technical review as there are plenty of these already available from review sites, rather a general user review of the smartphone.

My journey through recent Smartphones has taken me from a HTC TYTN to an HTC Touch Pro, so the change to the HTC Touch Pro 2 was an obvious one.

When the Touch HD was launched, I was very tempted to move to this as I was so impressed with its screen size, but the lack of keyboard stopped me from making the change. The Touch Pro 2 therefore was a perfect solution as it gave me a screen very close to the size of the HD with a keyboard that I had come to rely on.

First impressions were very good; the overall size did not appear any larger than my Touch Pro and the larger screen was also of a far higher quality. The keyboard is without doubt the best I have used so far on a Win Mobile device. The 5 lines of keys are a real plus giving far easier access to numeric keys. The screen also follows the Touch HD with clean smooth lines without the clutter of many function keys which are neatly located at the base of the screen.

There is the addition of the Windows button on the front of the unit which will mean an upgrade to Win 6.5 will be possible later in the year. The front screen also has the reduce/enlarge slider touch bar, but I have found I rarely use this feature.

Most of the in-built applications are standard to Win Mobile, but it does incorporate the latest version of Touch Flo, which many people find very productive. Personally I have replaced this with SPB Shell 3, which I find to be far superior and flexible. I really like the ability in the lifestyle view to have a large number of my main shortcuts and applications on screen for access by simply a touch. The only gripe I have over this application appear to be a bug that will sometimes make the application hang when you switch between contact and SMS.

The Touch Pro 2 appears quite fast on most applications and some of the communication tools are powerful and very easy to use. I have added a few programs including SPB Backup, CoPilot Live 7 (which I will soon update to Live and SPB Wallet, all of which I would recommend. The camera and movie feature are of a high quality for this type of device and perfect for taking the occasional photo and movie clip. Usually if away I would have a dedicated camera, so I only seem to use the camera for contact photos and pictures of some hotels and restaurants that I link to the contact database.

I do have my email from 2 accounts automatically download as well as other RSS feeds and weather reports. I also make good use of the internet browser for general information and sports updates (I have a data contract on by mobile tariff). I have tried the live TV features from a couple of software companies but generally find the access speed to be too slow for them to work well, this is down to the speed of the O2 data, and not a restriction of the phone itself.

I also have set up the Pro 2 to link to my Google Mail account which I would strongly recommend and my agenda and contacts are constantly updated with my Google ones so I would always have an up to date copy even if I did not have access to my phone for any reason. This is only sensible to use if you have a data provision on your phone contract or very good WiFi access in most places you visit.

I do not carry my Pro 2 in a case as I find them awkward, but do use and would strongly recommend a screen protector to be used. I have the CR G300 docking cradle which I think is stylish and of high quality, I also have the audio adaptor so I can use standard headphones although I do not really use the Pro 2 very much for music as I prefer my Ipod Nano. I do however sometimes download TV clips and movies for watching when on a train or plane.

The Touch Pro 2 does have a conference feature to allow 3-4 way conference calls and whilst I do not often use this the ability to turn the phone over and use on speaker phone with a high quality microphone and speaker can be a real benefit when you want someone else to share the conversation or you need to write something down from the call for example. The are many other really useful features, too many to list here, but make the use of the Pro 2 a delight, for example when you take a call and put your ear to the screen the screen turns off, but unlike the TYTN it now turns itself back on as you move the phone away from your ear to finish the call or access another application.

There are a few minor niggles, the GPS acquisition can be slow in Google Maps even when Quick GPS has been used (of interest it seems faster in CoPilot V7). I would like the reset button to be accessed via the side of the device rather than having to take the back off to access and have a standard 3.5 mm headphone socket. Possibly the most annoying one for myself is the positioning of the on/off switch which I find I can inadvertently press and turn device off when I have keyboard open and am typing. Speaking to other users this does not seem to be such a problem for them, but still consider the switch should be moved.

My conclusion however is very positive. If you need a keyboard then the HTC Touch Pro 2 is one of the best choices currently available and the unit is reliable with no major software bugs and is quick to use in most applications.

People just love watching movies on their iPhone, and with good reason because the screen is large and sharp enough to merit a decent movie-watching experience. Well HTC has taken a cue from the technology and incorporated it into its unlocked HTC Touch HD 8282. The 3.8-Inch screen is large enough to offer a comfortable visual experience, and if you squint hard enough, you could fool yourself into believing you were at the theater.
