Ainda no site da TMN ao selecionar um telemóvel, pode-se ler;

I’m seriously thinking about getting a new phone. My HTC Tytn ii is getting old. It still works well, but needs a makeover…an extreme one. A year of abuse, being dumped into a cluttered handbag, sports bag or into the cradle in the car has done the fascia no good at all. With an 18 month contract still in play (why, oh, why do we have those now?), I need to wait a little longer – apparently, any leftover contract term gets added…before you know it, a contract could end up being 24 or even 36 months…with one handset? Get real! They are not built to last, and it certainly wouldn’t be cool to have a three-year old phone, would it?

So, I’ve been watching Tweets to see what phones get ‘Twitter Traffic” and @willcarling is all BlackBerry’d up (the Javelin, don’t you know), @StephenFry has seven iPhones (though don’t ask him why) and many others are talking about various Nokias…

Personally, I like the HTC Touch HD. It looks good. The functionality sounds great and it’s available on one of the two networks in the UK that I will sign a contract with (that I already have contracts with).

Yes, I’d like an iPhone, but I’d miss TomTom and it would mean a contract with a company I have no intention of signing with!! I know I could buy a ‘hacked’ iPhone from eBay, but would I really want that…? I don’t think so. So, how do I get iPhone functionality without ‘that contract’? I buy an iTouch and an HTC Touch HD. A little bit extravagant? Perhaps…but it sounds good, doesn’t it?

The Blackberry Storm sucks.
My phone operator is threatening to withdraw the Blackberry Bold because of ongoing performance issues.
The Nokia 97 doesn’t have a release date (and the speculation is getting a bit silly now)
I remain with my useless brick of a HTC TyTN II, all singing, all dancing won’t do anything I want it to when I want it to (although the day will come when it will whistle through the air with resounding satisfaction from an arm long practiced at Rounders and Softball. Git-ish damn thing)

There's a QWERTY in there!

Along comes IMOVIO iKit.
Who?
Precisely.
Anyway these guys (or girls – we’re not keen on sexism around here. Much) have tickled a few peoples curiosity with their potential release…

At RRP £99.00, this tiny little (business card with attitude size) gadget has a QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, 0.3meg camera and apparently will run LINUX. It has 64MB Ram and an SD slot allowing it to expand to 8GB.
Cool!
Uh, ‘cept that it only has 4hrs battery life, no headphone jack and USB is all 1.1.

Fun for a gadget teenager, perhaps?

I’m going to go glare at the Acer One 3G and will one being gifted to me, please and thank you.

*sigh*

Last year I wrote about the HTC TyTN, which was later superceded by the TyTN II (AT&T Tilt) as the daddy of all productivity smartphones. Since then HTC has moved on with its Touch range which aim to turn up the style, which was a bit lacking in the TyTN series.

Of the three new Touch models (Diamond, Pro and HD) the Pro is the closest successor to the TyTN range with its slide out keyboard. I will make comparisons along the way to the Samsung Epix, which does a similar job in a very different style.

Picking up the Fuze is an altogether different experience to the Tilt it replaced. HTC has taken everything good about the TyTN range and made it sleeker. The all glass look is smart and the back cover has the beautiful angled surface first seen on the Touch Diamond.

One backwards step compared to the Tilt is the reduced number of buttons on the front of the Fuze. Whilst instant access application buttons are present on the keyboard like the Samsung Epix, the Fuze makes you either slide out the keyboard or use screen presses like the iPhone. Whilst this is not a huge problem it does make the Epix feel like a quicker phone to navigate.

The other significant change from the Tilt is that the Fuze loses the tilting screen, which seemed like a fragile but useful feature on its predecessor.

The Fuze feels mightily more petite to hold than the Tilt, but still a tad chunky in its depth to accommodate the keyboard. Overall it looks smaller than the Blackberry Bold or the Samsung Epix but the Fuze’s 6oz weight makes the 4.4oz Epix less bulky in a pocket.

The Fuze has a more useful keyboard than the TyTN series and most other smartphones. There are now five rows of keys, which reduces combination presses to a minimum. The keys also have a positive feel, which aids typing speed.

For those who like to work outdoors, the Fuze’s screen is far brighter than the Tilt’s. I’m writing this outside in full-on New York bright winter sunshine. You don’t get much color contrast, but at least you can see what you’re doing.

The Fuze’s big screen advance is its resolution which, at 640×480, is simply spectacular. The only comparison worth making is to the Blackberry Bold, whose screen is of similar quality.

The TyTN series packed a powerful punch for its time and the Fuze hits even harder. The Fuze has a whopping 0.5GB of ROM for Windows Mobile to play around with. Pair that up with a 528MHz processor and you have a device which flies along. At one point I had 15 applications open simultaneously and the Fuze just kept going. Operating system navigation is very responsive and AT&T’s Cellular Video streams well, as long as you have good 3G coverage.

There is also a MicroSD card slot which can handle cards up to 32GB to satisfy your thirst for videos/music/photos/applications. MicroSD cards are now pretty cheap, I saw an 8GB card recently for $18. However the Fuze loses brownie points for hiding it’s card slot under the back cover, unlike the TyTN which had exposed access on the side of the phone like the Samsung Epix.

The Fuze comes with Opera Mobile as the default browser. This does a good job and offers multiple tabs and good finger control, but still plays second fiddle to Safari on the iPhone. This is partly due to the iPhone’s larger screen and also because Safari renders pages better overall in my opinion.

HTC has enhanced its TouchFlo interface to ‘3D’ status with the inclusion of some nice widgets which make navigation very finger-friendly. The email and music screens look good and scrolling through text messages and photos is great as one item is swept away to make room for the next.

Battery life on the Fuze is only average, with a charge required on a nightly basis following moderate usage. Regular video streaming eats battery time, as does constant surfing although I did find that a full day of battery life is realistic with sensible usage.

The Fuze ships with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, which means you get Office Mobile, Windows Media Player and Windows Live. In addition to Messenger the phones also have IM clients for AIM and Yahoo and you can install third party applications to give access to more services. Google Maps, AvantGo and Skype were one-click installs.

Overall the Fuze is a great smartphone. In day to day usage I can’t decide if I prefer the trick TouchFlo 3D interface, sleek looks and amazing screen of the Fuze over the faster front panel key and mouse navigation of the Samsung Epix. There is a popular perception that touch is the way foward, but if reactions to the iPhone have told us anything it’s that people still want keyboards.

If you’re looking for a Windows Mobile smartphone then the Fuze does a great job, however if you prefer buttons to fingers it’s worth checking out the Samsung Epix too.

Having not held back in my disappointment of the Blackberry Storm – slow between app’s, frequent crashes etc – and therein investigating the Blackberry Bold as the only other feasible option (full review on TakTik Bitch Monday 21st Dec) I wake up this morning to endless gossip about the soon to be launched Nokia N97.

Oh la la. Frankly it’s been a while since I owned a Nokia. If I recall correctly the last one I carried around (and in fairness enjoyed enormously) was the Nokia Communicator 9300. Yeah, yeah, that dates me.

So, what’s the gossip? N97 and loads of bumpf about it being the Blackberry Storm and iPhone rival. The first serious contender? (I’ve heard that before somewhere …) However on the surface the spec’s are looking quite appealing.

3.5″ touchscreen (I like those)

Can’t escape the World connections – GPS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM Transmitter and tuner…

5MP camera

32GB onboard memory with MicroSD expandable to 48GB

3.5mm headphone jack (ie. ‘proper’ size)

An app with a new buzz word attached – So-Lo - Social location. That is the phone always knows where it is. Bonus?

Just one thing makes me falter right from the outset. It has, like my current HTC TyTN II, a slide QWERTY keyboard. Frankly, even after a year the damn thing still isn’t a comfortable function. Meh. However I’ll reserve judgement until the little darling is in my paws. In the meantime I shall watch the hype

Desktop. Laptop. Pocket: The era of the personal Internet dawns with the Nokia N97

Tilting touch display, QWERTY keyboard and personalized home screen – a true mobile computer.

Barcelona, Spain – Nokia today unveiled the Nokia N97, the world’s most advanced mobile computer, which will transform the way people connect to the Internet and to each other. Designed for the needs of Internet- savvy consumers, the Nokia N97 combines a large 3.5” touch display with a full QWERTY keyboard, providing an ‘always open’ window to favorite social networking sites and Internet destinations. Nokia’s flagship Nseries device introduces leading technology – including multiple sensors, memory, processing power and connection speeds – for people to create a personal Internet and share their ‘social location.’

“From the desktop to the laptop and now to your pocket, the Nokia N97 is the most powerful, multi-sensory mobile computer in existence,” said Jonas Geust, Vice President, heading Nokia Nseries. “Together with the Ovi services announced today, the Nokia N97 mobile computer adjusts to the world around us, helping stay connected to the people and things that matter most. With the Nokia N97, Nseries leads the charge in helping to transform the Internet into your Internet”.

The Nokia N97 introduces the concept of ‘social location’. With integrated A-GPS sensors and an electronic compass, the Nokia N97 mobile computer intuitively understands where it is. The Nokia N97 makes it easy to update social networks automatically with real-time information, giving approved friends the ability to update their ‘status’ and share their ‘social location’ as well as related pictures or videos.

The home screen of the Nokia N97 mobile computer features the people, content and media that matter the most. Friends, social networks and news are available by simply touching the home screen. The 16:9 widescreen display can be fully personalized with frequently updated widgets of favorite web services and social networking sites. The Nokia N97 is also perfectly suited for browsing the web, streaming Flash videos or playing games. Both the physical QWERTY and virtual touch input ensure efficiency in blogging, chatting, posting, sending texts or emailing.

The Nokia N97 supports up to 48 GB of storage, including 32 GB of on-board memory, expandable with a 16 GB microSD card for music, media and more. This is complemented by excellent music capabilities, full support for the Nokia Music Store and continuous playback time of up to 1.5 days. The Nokia N97 also has a 5- Megapixel camera with high-quality Carl Zeiss optics, 16:9 and DVD quality video capture, and support for services like Share on Ovi for immediate sharing over HSDPA and WLAN.

The Nokia N97 is expected to begin shipping in the first half of 2009 at an estimated retail price of EUR 550 before taxes or subsidies.

KINERJA
Kualitas suara ketika melakukan pembicaraan cukup bagus.

Alhamdulillah, I have successfully updated my TyTN II with the latest HTC WM6.1 ROM. Loving the threaded-sms. Things are generally more responsive at the moment. However, I can’t be sure if it’s due to the the new ROM or the fact that my TyTN II is now free from any softwares. Everything I installed previously were removed. Once the WM6.1 ROM installation was done, I even uninstalled the bundled Voice Commander. Currently in the process of reinstalling all necessary softwares and hopefully all would go well. Someone told me that Skype has yes to come out with a WM6.1 support for their product. Won’t be too long, i hope… hehehe…
