The Darley National School celebrated its 150th anniversary during the first weekend of June 2009. The school was founded by a philanthrophist clergyman named John Richard Darley, whom subsequently became Bishop of Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh. For the occassion, Jonathan Smyth was invited to speak  on the schools history. Cootehill’s Heritage Trail, (researched and compiled) by the Historian Mr. Patrick Cassidy, mentions the site of the old Darley School, see:
