This Saturday had to be one of my favorites, if not my favorite of 2009. I was able to attend a music conference here in Little Rock, AR called “All The Right Elements Symposium”; http://www.alltherightelementssymposium.com; There I was introduced to a lot of new and old friends whom will most likely shape my future drastically.

I met a lot of up-and-coming talent at the event and I have to say that Im really happy with the way Arkansas is starting to shape up. All the panelist were very honest and straight to the point when telling artists about their music during the demo listening session.

furthermore, the 1st Annual Urban Fashion Show was that night too. Even thought I was able to attend even though I had bought my ticket, it seemed to be a big success. I wish them luck in their future endeavors.

Lastly, Philander Smith College’s homecoming concert was tonight which featured national acts such as Young Dro, Huey, Tierra Marie, and a few others. I have to say that the performances were great.

Hard Facts: ALWAYS BE PREPARED! You never know who you are going to meet and always having a business card, CD, and/or being able to perform on the spot may get you. Going back to what Rich Nice said “You ONLY get an opportunity like that ONCE!”

My Dad often uses a phrase that I love.

“Would you want him on your chopper!?”

Its takes a little bit of explanation. I played a lot of team sports when I was younger and like any team sport, taking the playing field often means going to ‘war’ with the opposition. We would often say in reference to various team mates ‘Do you want him on the chopper when you were going to war?’. Thus “would you want him on your chopper!?” . I have been doing a bit of thinking about this in recent days in relation to where I find myself right now.

Any sportsman, be it amateur or professional wants the best team around him at all times. After-all these are the people who you go to war with. These are the people who your hopes and dreams depend on. It may seem dramatic but thats the nature of sport. Sport is about passion. Whether you play a sport like soccer or compete in an individual sport you have a team. You have a team of people who support and advise you. So my question is … Who is on your chopper?

I’ve been looking at my chopper in recent days and I couldn’t be happier. There are some permanent people there. My Dad, my brother, Sharon. These are people who are always there helping me achieve my goals. Recently I have seen a couple of new additions here in Australia and I’m delighted to report that they are awesome. El helicóptero UH-1 Iroquois fue retirado oficialmente por la Guardia Nacional el pasado 2 de Octubre en una ceremonia celebrada en Fort Myer (Washington) poniendo fin así a una trayectoria de 50 años de servicio en el Ejército y de 40 dentro de la propia Guardia Nacional.

El UH-1 Iroquois fue el primer helicóptero militar en utilizar turbinas de gas, lo que le permitía llevar a los dos tripulantes y once soldados.

El helicóptero, conocido simplemente por “Huey”, nació en 1956 y se envió al Ejército en 1959. Su sobrenombre proviene de la pronunciación de su primera designación, HU-1 (Helicopter Utility), teniendo los modelos construidos mas tarde dicha palabra impresa en los propios pedales del piloto.

Se construyeron más de 15.000 Hueys, sirviendo la mitad de ellos en Vietnam (perdiéndose 4.000), conflicto al que esta aeronave quedará vinculada para siempre, siendo desde entonces un símbolo de dicha guerra, ganando la merecida reputación de aparato resistente, versátil y capaz de volar incluso después de recibir severos daños a consecuencia del fuego enemigo.

Tal como dijo en el acto el General Alberto Jimenez de la Guardia Nacional de Maryland, “Era nuestra vida, nuestro amigo, el que nos llevó y nos sacó de Vietnam, una aeronave que salvó la vida de incontables heridos y enfermos en el campo de batalla”

La Guardia Nacional empezó a recibir los UH-1 en los primeros años de la década de los ´70, estimándose su cantidad en unos 1500, sustituyendo a los veteranos CH-37 (Mojave) y a los UH-34 (Choctaw).

El tiempo no pasó en balde y el Huey fue reemplazado en el Ejército a finales de los ´70 por el UH-60 Black Hawk, y aunque esta nueva aeronave poseía mayor capacidad de elevación, velocidad y una completa electrónica, el Huey seguía siendo objeto de devoción por muchos pilotos, añorando terriblemente el sonido que emitían las palas su rotor, un sonido inconfundible e inolvidable para ellos.

Lamentablemente tras la retirada del Huey por parte del Ejército, sólo el Cuerpo de Marines cuenta con el moderno Yankee Huey.

Tal y como dijo Jimenez y como muchos otros pilotos y veteranos piensan, “nos despedimos de una máquina impresionante, fiable y de confianza. Gracias por el trabajo bien hecho”

Per Huey s’intendono sopratutto i modelli monoturbina appartenenti alle serie 204 e 205 (H-1A/B/C/D/E/F/H/J/L/P/U/V/X e CH-118) ed in particolar modo i tipi con turboalbero Lycoming T53.

Comunque ragazzi, mezzo secolo di servizio e’ un traguardo che solo una ristrettissima cerchia di aeromobili puo’ vantare. La cosa davvero straordinaria e’ che gli esemplari che vediamo volare oggi non differiscono poi molto da quelli che solcavano i cieli di mezzo mondo quaranta o cinquant’anni fa.

So, one of my art muses has gotten herself a new tablet, and as I looked at it, I wondered about my own. I’ve had it since 2005, so needless to say that it’s outdated, so I decided it was time to make some purchases. Sadly, as I shopped around I realized that a tablet wasn’t the only thing I wanted anymore T_T

I’m getting a lot more involved with the business aspect of my art lately, and I did get in to contact with some money and I think getting a new tablet would be a great investment, since the more I read around, the more advancements I find with things like sensitivity levels and workspace areas. I narrowed it down to two choices.

This lovely tablet is by Wacom, quite easily the King of tablet making companies. This particular model is the Wacom Intuos4, the most recent release of the Intuos line. I hear a lot of raves about this tablet, and from watching some review videos on youtube, I find myself getting more and more sucked in to wanting it, but I’ll explain why I didn’t just grab this sucker the second I saw it. One of it’s most attractive features is the buttons that you can set as shortcuts for commands, so you don’t have to keep going to the keyboard (like, set a button to undo something, and you just press the button whenever you want to do it, really simple.) Also, the fact that you can rotate the canvas you’re working on using the touch circle on the side without getting messy in Photoshop, so it gives you a distance from the fact that you’re not working traditionally on a pic. It comes in 4 different sizes, the Medium one seems to fit the regular artists needs. It comes bundled with some pretty neat software that you can really use (Like Photoshop and Autodesk Sketchbook 2010) and some neat applications for your pen. This baby retails at around $350, but you can get it at  Amazon for around $300.

And the reason I didn’t just snatch up the Intuos4. Meet the Wacom Comptiq 12wx. First off, retail price. It goes for $999 retail, and $899 on Amazon. Now, when I saw this price tag, I almost fell backwards. Why such a huge price difference from the Intuos4? Something that I seemed to have missed is that the screen on the Comptiq 12wx is your workspace. It’s like having Photoshop at your fingertips, you can literally color your digital image on your lap. Seeing this beauty in action literally made me drool. This is perfect for me. Something I hated about my tablet was that it seemed so distant. How can I explain that… I felt like my work was much better when I sketched with pencil and scanned on to the computer, but I know that if I practiced more I would eventually get used to it and not have it feel so distant. I tried, but I always felt much more comfortable sketching traditionally. THIS, on the other hand, would fix that problem completely. I would love feeling more hands on with my digital art work, it would be a dream come true for me T_T All it’s tech aspects are practically the same as the Intuos4 (sensitivity, workspace area), but I couldn’t find anything about being able to rotate the canvas of your image easily from the tablet, but that wouldn’t be a problem anymore because you could literally twist it on its side and still work perfectly. Also, it doesn’t come bundled with any cool software for artwork, but that lead me to look up some art programs.

Paint Tool Sai is my first choice of programs I would choose to have on my program list. I’ve seen the best of the best artists use this program, and it looks like a wonder. I also consulted Bonn who knows much more than me about this stuff, and she’s all thumbs up for it. Ughh my problem is that in order to buy this product, you can only download it (with an English patch for me because I can’t understand Japanese even a little.) and after the free trial expires, you pay for it (being sold for about 50-60 dollars) and they send you a certificate in the mail saying that you rightfully own the product. When I buy things, I like having the boxes or the program at least on a cd. I don’t approve of downloading free software at all. Not only is it dangerous, but it takes away so badly from the companies that make these amazing products, making them less inclined to make anymore awesome products. I’d rather have a hard copy of something like that anyway, something that can be used infinitely to make artworks.

Surfing around for some more art programs, I found something called Comic Studio EX 4.0 (Also known as Manga Studio 4), and I was instantly interested. I read some reviews and found that Manga Studio Debut was optimal for beginners like me, and the price tag isn’t as heavy as other art programs like Photoshop. Something I really want to do is start to draw my own manga, but I want to do it right, and I think the program would really help in that process. I think the reason I want to buy this most is because of the insane amount of tones that it includes, and how easy it makes the process of making frames seem. It’s retailed around $40 but around $30 on Amazon.

IllsutStudio4 by Celsys  company, what I think is  the leading name in illustrator programs in Japan. They call this particular program the Japanese Photoshop. Can’t find anything about an English patch, though. Wouldn’t matter XD From what I found, this retails at around $400 Looks extremely promising, but still very new.

As much as I love my Sharpys, the Copic Marker has been the Holy Grail for me, marker wise. I’m determined to get a 72 set, and I’ve been shopping around for so long to find the right fit for me. First I checked the basic Sketch and Marker sets, and I found that it included many greys, which is something I don’t want, but I was willing to settle if I could have some of the other basic colors. It wasn’t until yesterday that I stumbled upon my perfect set. This is the Sketch version of the Papercrafting Set A. These are the specific colors included in it:

What the Sharpys lack are very soft colors, and I think that’s one of their biggest defects in their color choices (I don’t care if they’re supposed to be bold, for my purposes, I need them to be soft D:<) That’s why I want this Copic set, it has the soft and mildly bold versions of colors that I don’t have in my Sharpy collection. I never would’ve thought to go for this specific collection because I didn’t think there were sets other than the Sketch and Marker versions of Copics, but I luckily stumbled across it, and I want it! This set is retailing for around $300 on Amazon, and for trust purposes, I think I want to order this from there.

And speaking of soft colors, this set is the 12 Sketch version of Soft Pastels. Pastels = yum. And needed. This set retails for around $58 dollars on Amazon (COPIC Y U SO EXPENSIVE.), but if I am going to take the big leap and buy the Copics, I would buy this set first and then the 72. Something that seriously makes me paranoid is the calibration of my monitor, it’s something that my brother J hasn’t mastered in fixing, and I can’t figure it out too well either. This nifty device retails around $60 dollars on Amazon, and it sets the perfect calibration on your PC that is optimal for your viewing needs. As someone who works a lot with colors on her PC, I would  love an easy fix to my paranoia, and I hope this thing will get me out of that issue.

And of course… an untouchable desire, a Dollfie. This outfit screamed to me when I found it on Danny Choo, she is the Daughter of a lucky user there ;-; I believe this is the Saber model, she doesn’t call my attention too much. If I had a Daughter of my own, I would dress her up in loose jeans, simple outfits and school uniforms, and of course, her must have Headphones. Unfortunately, a Dollfie is probably the biggest investment on my list ^^; An average Dollfie Dream retails around $900, and that’s just for the doll head and the body occasionally. The clothes just as much as human clothes (Jeans for 60 friggin’ dollars, I wanna shoot myself.) and the same goes for shoes and boots and coats and lingerie. I barely buy myself clothes, but I can totally see myself buying my Daughter a new outfit every day (Raver themed, of course.) and posing her as beautifully as possible on my desk.

So WOO. This list cost is ridiculous. But it’s what  I want, and it makes me want to return to working very hard and long hours. Either at the bookstore, or at a new job completely, but I don’t have time for that. I’m a major part of two businesses and a full time student right now, I barely have time to myself anymore. But, it does give me something to work for.

A prisão pôs fim a mais um ano de assédio contra a ex-namorada. As brincadeiras de Huey também irritaram os vizinhos da mulher. Eles relataram que Huey ficava sobrevoando o bairro em baixa altitude desde abril de 2008, dois meses após o fim do namoro.
As autoridades afirmaram que o caso tomou novo rumo na semana passada, quando os moradores começaram a encontrar folhetos que continham insultos raciais perto da casa da mulher.
Huey foi preso no aeroporto de Concord e levado para a cadeia do Condado de Martinez. Sua fiança foi fixada em US$ 155 mil.

On downed bird missions, they would steadily hover their chopper above the treetops while the Blues rappelled one at a time to the jungle below. They were easy targets for ‘Charlie’ but that would never stop them from completing a mission.
