Right, so LT has raised the stakes somewhat with her choice of Gavin… not bad, LT, not bad. So it’s time to haul out the big guns and speaking of big guns, my choice this week is Hugh Jackman. He is Wolverine. And for some reason, we all think Wolverine is not only the most awesome of the X-Men, but also the hottest of all the super-hero characters out there.

People Magazine voted him the sexiest man alive in 2008 and I’m not going to argue with People… they’re always accurate. His only drawback is that he is Australian but then no-one’s perfect…

Dearest GW, Okay, so, this is hilarious. Almost as hilarious as 2012 was, but not quite (seriously,

Dearest GW,

Okay, so, this is hilarious. Almost as hilarious as 2012 was, but not quite (seriously, it was worth seeing only for its hilariously bad portrayal of the partial apocalypse). I have just learned that Hugh Jackman (whom you may remember from such films as: X-Men, Van Helsing, and that adorably misguided movie about time travel, elevators and romance: Kate & Leopold) will be staring in a movie about boxing robots. Yes, that’s right! I just said boxing robots. This is the reason I mention it to you, really: I thought that you’d find that combination of things amusing. Here’s a little bit about the story-line (lifted from Variety):

Story centers on a fighter who has to reinvent himself when human boxers are replaced by robots. Jackman will play a struggling Robot Boxing promoter who finds a discarded robot that always seems to win. He also discovers he has a 11-year-old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: um, whaaaaaat?! Either that, or you’re making a very interesting face at your screen. Truth is, I’ve read some pretty strange synopses of movies, and they’ve turned out to be decent, the most memorable of which is definitely Children of Men. The original synopsis of Children of Men on IMDB made it sound like the worst idea ever and I was ready to bid Clive Owen’s career goodbye. Then I found out that it was a novel by P.D. James and someone wrote a better synopsis, and all was well. Of course, it turned out to be one of my favourite movies of that year. …I’m not sure a flick about robot boxing would fare as well. I guess we’ll have to see, as the king of robot-related cinema Steven Spielberg has gotten himself ensconced in this puppy, and people do still go for Steven’s blockbuster fare.

The only thing that would make this whole thing a more fitting target for the blogosphere would be if the whole thing was to be staged as a musical. I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but apparently the brawny Hugh Jackman likes to sing show tunes. Let’s write Steven a letter and convince him to make this film stranger-sounding than it already is!

…or not.

Cheers and much love,
Sara

P.S. I promise that next week’s letter will be a little more engaging. Even you need some silly fluff from Hollywood, sometimes, yes?

According to sources, the film, based on a short story by Richard Matheson, will have a budget of 80million dollars.

The film helmed by Shawn Levy revolves around a fighter who faces the challenge of reinventing himself when robots replace human boxers.

Jackman will play the role of a struggling Robot Boxing promoter.

Levy calls the movie a “rousing sports movie” with Jackman playing “a former boxer who can no longer do the only job he’’s good at, and one particular robot that may be his return to grace.”

The production of the flick will in June next year.

“When we took it with us, we really highlighted it as something we would put the pedal to metal on,” Variety mag quoted DreamWorks co-president of production Mark Sourian, as saying.

He added: “It’’s a project that Steven always wanted to do. It just came together rapidly after we left Paramount.”

It had been almost over a year since i wrote my article about Hollister, but yet i still had the job

It had been almost over a year since i wrote my article about Hollister, but yet i still had the job.

I did not seem to mind anymore. I continued the tradition of swallowing my pride, but no longer did I care about my discount, my job became an important social aspect of my life.

Oh yes, this was until we got the new boss.

Everyone knows what it’s like getting a new boss. He or she will either be a pushover or a complete toolbag. For me, it always seems to be the latter.

His name was Derek. He was a large man who barely fit into the company’s clothing. This was because he spent most of his life at the gym. I think by spending so much time sculpting his guns he may have constricted a few too many blood vessels.

He seemed to have been pointing out flaws in everyone’s work and letting us go unappreciated for the hours we were putting in.Luckily for me, he hadn’t found a flaw yet.

I think this panicked him. So for my final month working, he stalked me. Hid behind plants, lurked quietly in the corner, watching, waiting for me to screw up. And then I did.

A woman old enough to George Burn’s mother walked into our store. I was not about to berate this woman with the company’s tagline “Hey, what’ up?” It would have only have confused her, and I did not feel like giving this woman a cerebral aneurysm by explaining it.

"My mother was a saint!"

So I said “Hi, how are you doing today?!”

Big fucking mistake.

According to my manager, being hip and cool out weighs friendly and polite. No more could i work for this man, so I wrote him this letter

“Dear Derek,

If you don’t know by now, I don’t enjoy my job. If you haven’t noticed, it’s because you’re completely devoid of human emotion.

I started this job with high hopes. I thought working here would be a relaxed environment; my oh my how naïve I was.

I soon was whisked into a world of mass consumerism and materialism that I couldn’t have begun to fathom before I started working here. For instance: the company’s idea of model standards.

I’m not an idiot; I can hear your conference calls. I heard Chelsea complaining about our model’s not wearing enough plaid. I heard the other managers talking about their new recruitments. “I think she’s really cute, she’d be great” or “I don’t like him, especially after he shaved his head.”

How about this, who gives a fuck?

It wasn’t until recently that I realized this, I’ve known this forever. If you didn’t know I’ve been with the company longer than you have, so for me to only notice this now would be absurd.

The last string was pulled earlier this week. According to anonymous sources at the manager meeting, the managers, you believe that we are stressed out because of the company’s instance for us to wear plaid.

^Way too stressed out

I’m tired of making witty comments and transfusing them with sarcasm, so I’m just going to be blunt. It’s not the plaid; it’s you.

By hearing this quote I realized there is no getting through to you. You have no idea of how other human beings think or act. It’s the only explanation

You’re like a robot.

But it doesn’t matter, because you don’t. I can think of a long list of things that are more important than Hollister’s and your impact in the world including Atkins, contact lenses, snuggies, antiperspirant deodorant, Go-gurt, crystal meth, red states, socialism, Hayden Panterrie, that funny asian guy off of Knocked Up, construction paper, Bonanza, barracudas, cheap cologne, and George Clooney.

So I’m going to go back to my life of yager bombs and happiness and you can go back to yours of snorting testosterone and So Cal.

Yours truly,

Mario

PS: PULL UP YOUR FUCKING PANTS!!!!!!! “

I hope I made my point.

Estad atentos, pies izquierdos.

I’m back. I needed a rest. Well, part of the reason I’ve been away is because I was on vacation and the other part of the reason was because I just had to get all my ducks in a row afterwards and get myself back into the swing of things. And now I’m not sure if I got my blog game on, but I’ll give it my best shot.

Okay, well, my vacation was spent with my family in Illinois and spent most of the time just hanging out with my father, talking about family stuff, waxing sentimental and overall just enjoying each other’s company. We had a big family dinner on Saturday at The Ranch where in a moment of weakness from too much to eat, I divulged my famous apple pie recipe to my sister-in-law. And I also broke tradition and did not make plans to go Alexander’s Steakhouse. My trips in the recent past to the Midwest have been short and rushed and I just wanted to enjoy time with my family.

And in regards to the family stuff we talked about there was some unbelievably fantastic documentation which you’ll be seeing once the next chapters of McGinty Chronicles launch, most likely beginning after the first of the year. And I’m really looking forward to getting that back up and running. And I also was given John Logan’s (my great-grandfather) cane shaped walking stick which will get hung on the wall of my office as soon as I figure just where I want it and when I find an appropriate way to hang it. I want just the right holder for it and put it where it will be out of hand’s reach.

So, Brian, what’s up with that blog picture? I’m glad you asked. While we were going through stacks of pictures, I found a series of pictures that were taken of me through my first few years. This one happens to be my hospital picture. Cute…no? Wait until you see tomorrow’s.

Okay, so I was home from my trip in time for work on Wednesday and by Friday, I needed a break so it was off to the theater. We had tickets to see A Steady Rain starring Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig. It was a 2-man, no-intermission play about two cop partners who had been friends since kindergarten in a tough Chicago neighborhood and how their lives had intertwined since, including bachelor Craig being in love with married but cheating (with a hooker) Jackman’s wife. In every sense of the word it was a minimalist set, namely two chairs on a representative cement slab and an occasional dimly lit backdrop of either a ghetto apartment building or a densely wooded area. I heard gasps and groans as the story developed coming from the audience but it wasn’t really gripping me like that. For me it just sort of rolled along with no emotion. I gave it a 6 and Ariel gave it a 9.

At the end of the play, the two stars announced that it was time for a Broadway Cares: Equity Fights AIDS drive, which happens twice a year on Broadway for period of time and among the incentives to drop big dollars in the buckets by the exit doors were signed Playbills and posters. But the big ticket of the night was Jackman’s announcement that the wifebeater tanktop he was wearing on stage that night would be autographed and given to the highest bidder from the audience, beginning at one thousand dollars. Two people waged a bidding war and at 10 thousand, Jackman stopped the auction and announced that for that amount each, both he and Craig would sign their shirts for the two warring bidders backstage.

By contrast, I heard on Saturday that the sequined glove Michael Jackson wore when he did his moonwalk for the first time on television was among the items being auctioned off that night at the Julien’s Auction, and the estimated amount it was expected to bring in was in the neighborhood of $50,000. Not all that big a big price, for something of the “King Of Pop’s” I thought, by comparison to a tanktop for $10,000 the night before. Well, the glove, as it turns out, sold for $350,000. So, egg on my face.

Well, I’m really writing this on Sunday night and I’m watching the American Music Awards which I’ll probably moan and groan about tomorrow, if I deem any of it worthy of mention.

Have a great day.

Sometimes there are movies that because of high expectations, don’t quite live up to the hype,

Sometimes there are movies that because of high expectations, don’t quite live up to the hype, therefore people and critics shrug it off as a failure. There are also some movies that people just pan or shrug off based on it’s cast or premise. Although there are some occassions where I’ve had such thoughts, I like to give every movie a chance. There are times when I regret it but there are times when there is a true gem that most people just don’t care for without even seeing it, or they just don’t like it for the reasons I’ve mentioned.

My list is compiled of movies that “failed” due to high expectations as well as those that most think are truly horrible. I love all of these movies and I don’t feel ashamed for doing so.

Here are my top 10 most underrated movies of the decade.

10. Australia

Baz Luhrman | 2008

I guess that after the greatness of Moulin Rouge! there were high expectations for Lurhrman’s next project (mine were definitely like that). When it was announced that he would do an epic romance, I guess people thought that he was going to try to bring back the sub-genre, when in fact it was just an homage to those movies. Most people didn’t see it as the latter, which is why they hated it. However, there were a few of us who saw it for what it was and we loved it. The romance is great, the cinematography is amazing, the score fits the story, and the performances are great. Yes, the script had problems, but they can be easily forgiven thanks to the rest of the production.

9. The Fall

Tarsem | 2008

This movie originally played in the Toronto International Film Festival in 2006 and it was panned, with most critics calling it an inferior copy of anther festival darling from that year, Pan’s Labyrinth. Two year later, it was released independently to bad reviews. There were a few critics like Roger Ebert who actually saw it for what it was, a visual treat supported by a small story. It is a gorgeous movie filled with remarkable images and featuring great performances by Lee Pace and Catinka Untaru. It may not have a very deep and thought provoking story, but the story confined with the magnificent production makes for a great experience.

8. Across the Universe

Julie Taymor | 2007

Most people who dislike this mostly complain about how “misused” the songs by The Beatles were, about how little story there is to support those historic lyrics. I guess their love for the songs did not allow them to see the beautiful production, the great direction, the great performances, the good arrangements of the songs. They missed out on all the fun.

7. Knowing

Alex Proyas | 2009

Nicolas Cage had not had a good decade. For every Lord of War ,The Weatherman, and Adaptation there are two National Treasures, one Next, one Bangkok Dangerous, one Ghost Rider, and one The Wicker Man. So I guess that when this came out the presence of Cage made most people dismiss it as another one of his attempts to become an action star so late in his career. However, the movie is not just Nicolas Cage. It was directed by one of the most interesting directors out there, the script, despite it’s huge flaws, had some interesting ideas that Proyas takes the most advatage of, and it also features Cage’s best performances since 2005 when he had both Lord of War and The Weatherman

6. Memoirs of a Geisha

Rob Marshall | 2005

The book on which this is based is amazing, so there is no way that the movie was going to live up to it. Despite that, I believe Rob Marshall did a great job in translating the story visually into the screen it is one of the best produced movies of the decade. Yes, the script is rather bad, but the behind-the-scenes people and the actors rise above the material. Should you expect a fast-paced movie? No, you should expect a slow-burning experience and take everything in to enjoy the great ending.

5. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zizzou

Wes Anderson | 2004

It may not be Wes Anderson’s best, but I’d say that it is his most interesting, visually, and it has some really funny moments, as well as plenty of heart felt ones. Plus, it sports Bill Murray’s best post-Lost in Translation performance, Angelica Houston, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Cate Blanchett, and a song by Sigur Ros. What more can you ask for?

4. Monster-in-Law

Robert Luketic | 2005

Does it have the most original story? No. Is It well written and directed? No. So why do I think it is underrated? Well, it is because of the actresses. Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez have great chemistry together, and that alone makes almost every joke work. Plus, there is the always-reliable Wanda Sykes and the always reliable assistant ready with a one liner for every situation.

3. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Garth Jennings | 2005

Based on the books by Douglas Adams, I think the movies does a great job of translating the humor, which is not the humor that most people are used to. I does not have jokes that give you belly laughs, but the kind of humor that makes you go, “that’s funny.” Martin Freeman, Mos Def, Zooey Deschanel, and Sam Rockwell are perfectly cast and make everything work.

2. Speed Racer

The Wachowskis | 2008

“It looks like a videogame and it has no story” was the biggest complaint I heard about this movie. This was never supposed to be the next Matrix, it was supposed to be a movie for the whole family to enjoy. And that was what we got. It has a simple good vs. evil, family always sticks together story, combined with great, groundbreaking visual effects, and good performances to boot.

1. The Fountain

Darren Aronofsky | 2005

I guess the main reason why most people don’t like it is because of it’s non-linear narrative. I loved it from the first time I saw it, and has only gotten better with repeat viewings. Hugh Jackman gives what is his best performance to date, and Rachel Weiz is also quite good. Some parts are off-putting and you do wonder what part is actually happening, but that is only part of the beauty of it. This is definitely one of the best movies of the decade.

There are my 10 most underrated movies of the decade. Feel free to offer your opinion in the comments section.

Pierwszy nazywa się “Obietnica” (The Pledge). Drugi etap nazywa się “Zwrot” (The Turn). Iluzjonista bierze ów zwyczajny obiekt i robi z nim coś nadzwyczajnego.

Trzeba to sprowadzić z powrotem. I dlatego każda sztuczka ma trzeci etap. Najtrudniejszy. Etap, który nazywa się…

Prestiż (The Prestige)

Obsession is a young man’s game

Are you watching closely?

The Real Transported Man), i dynamicznym montażem.

Hugh Jackman has passed the Sexiest Man Alive crown to Johnny Depp, who has claimed the title from America’s People magazine for a second time.

“At 46, Johnny Depp, the father of two still reigns as Hollywood’s most irresistible iconoclast; as one-of-a-kind as his beloved 15-year-old boots and as smouldering as his favourite Cuban cigars,” the magazine said on its website.

Depp caught People’s attention not so much for his swashbuckling antics in the Pirates franchise or his freakish charm in Edward Scissorhands, but his softer side as a family man.

The slightly built actor who often sports a wispy goatee beard and floppy hair beat out 33-year-old actor Ryan Reynolds, who starred in The Proposal, and Jake Gyllenhaal of Brokeback Mountain.

Depp also won the magazine’s Sexiest honour in 2003, making him, George Clooney and Brad Pitt the only three male stars to win the title twice.

I would like to point out that this is the third year in a row that Matthew McConnaughy hasn’t won the title.

How can any competition be taken seriously that allows this injustice to happen? 3 TIMES!

I have been yelling at the People website ever since in my own particular angry patois – an unapologetic stream of abuse far more creative than any Marine drill instructor or master rapper.

Yours, while speaking the vernacular of human bitterness and agony

Righteous

p.s. Warning: The style of this blog is almost pure irony, and will offend many readers, although in no sense is it exaggerated. Then again, that depends on what your definition of exaggeration is.

IMDB: 8.4 / #74 on Top 250 Rotten Tomatoes: 75 / 55 / 93 Production Budget: $40 Million, Worldwide G

IMDB: 8.4 / #74 on Top 250
Rotten Tomatoes: 75 / 55 / 93
Production Budget: $40 Million, Worldwide Gross: $109 Million

The Prestige, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated films of our times.

Directed by Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) and staring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johansson and Michael Caine, it contains all the elements which make a film — a truly great one!

The story revolves around two rival magicians (Bale and Jackman) set in England at the end of the nineteenth century.

With a back and forth narration, the film becomes slightly difficult to follow – but is extremely intense and gripping throughout with a setting and ending which most directors would kill for.
(Nolan gets the timing perfect)

The sets and the lighting are remarkable and take you to that place in time. The music director for the film, Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Batman Begins) does a brilliant job matching the intensity of the drama being played out on the screen.

The Prestige

Though the narration of the film may seem confusing to a few, it is apt and Nolan – brings his experience from Memento and keeps it engrossing as the events fold out in the film.

The acting is definitely one of the strong points — with everyone playing their parts out to perfection. Hugh Jackman stays true to the showman and celebrated magician image, Bale to the very talented underdog, Scarlett Johansson to the ravishing stage assistant and Michael Caine as the wise old engineer.

Like all good movies, this film is actually made up of many different layers which unfold as the film progresses leaving you lots to think about when it finally gets over. Definitely a movie to watch if you haven’t done so already.

My Recommendation:
Watch it with someone who really appreciates and understands films. Not a film to watch with more than 3 – 4 people at a house party. You will require to pay attention to really enjoy this one. (Watch in a single sitting).
Not really a family film.

My Rating: 5 stars definitely!

Well, for the new Sandra Bullock movie, “The Blind Side”, I had confirmed with them for PRESS PASSES for the night. I spoke to the publicity department and also the people in charge of the photography press. I was so excited! I arrived with m good friend Elisa and we noticed the line for photography press was huge! They had two separate lines depending on if you were there to video or photograph.

Looking so young, we were asked a few times if we were with press. I explained what website we were covering it for and we had spoken to people and we would be on the list. After waiting outside for over an hour in the cold, finally they let the photographers start lining up and given out press credentials. They could not find our names on the list and we were told we would get in. Then I showed them an e-mail sent confirming we have a spot. The lovely man (note “lovely” is sarcastic) John Lee, not only told us we were not approved to get in, but he let in FREELANCE photographers and then proceeded to tell us “there’s no more room”. Clearly there was room. He was snide and made sure he talked down to us. He spent zero time trying to accommodate us. He seemed like he LOVED the fact he got to turn away SOMEONE.

So…. to add insult to injury, we had to cross the street and wait there in hopes of grabbing a picture of two. I wasn’t very successful but I did put together a video and photographs (see above).
We made the best of the situation and we found a few events going on that night…. so we covered:

Enjoy the pictures and video…. totally e-mail john.lee@warnerbros.com!!!!!

Pôster do filme

Perdão, misturei as sagas.

Liev Schreiber, Hugh Jackman e Danny Huston

Look at the cutness that has sprung from the loins of The Jackman Cheese. Actually she’s adopted. But whatever. Seriously. 4 year old Ava Jackman is about the sweetest looking child ever to be not born by Angelina Jolie. In fact, keep the Jolie-Pitts away from Ava. They might try to re-adopt her.

Yet another reason to love Hugh Jackman. Sure he may be one of the absolutely corniest people on the face of the planet, but he’s normal. So normal. He takes his kids to get ice cream without an entourage in NYC. Proof that you’re not always a douche when you’re a celebrity.

Have you ever seen this TMZ video? Basically in the middle of a theater performance of A Steady Rain with Daniel Craig, a cell phone in the audience rings. Hugh is visibly irritated by it, but manages to deliver a concise and graceful smackdown while trying to maintain his cool. So many others would have lost their shit, but not our Jackman Cheese.
