Ersätter Akko i regionförbundets styrelse idag under förmiddagen. Sedan är det tåget till Kalmar som gäller och därifrån till bhv för att vaccinera barnen. Äldsta dottern fick sin vaccination i måndags och hon har inte haft någon reaktion. Får hoppas att de små klarar det lika väl.

Någon gång under dagen ska jag även hinna med att gå minst 10 000 steg. Det är ju inte svårt att lyckas med men blir alltid lite orolig för om jag ska lyckas när dagen är intecknad med stilla sittande möten och transporter.

Nu har vi blivit välkomnade till Hultsfred av kommunalrådet Kira Berg så nu startar möte. Återkommer senare!

oj oj oj, vilken jävla helg det har varit! Spelningen kändes så jävla bra, fick en sån otroligt skön feeling som myste med mig genom hela framträdandet.
Och responsen från publiken var otrolig, TACK för alla vänliga ord!

På Razzia-kvällen igår var det, som vanligt, ett helt gäng Rockfoto-fotografer. Petter bland annat. Och Magnus. Magnus som jag skrev om redan igår. Men vi hade så himla trevligt igår, trots att jag pratade för mycket, och trots att jag drack för mycket och trots att jag tog över hela hans kväll med en massa konstigt pladder.

Men vi pratade om viktiga saker också. Om otrohet och om killar som inte är smarta.

Och så pratade vi minnen, vi pratade om hur man glömmer av att man inte kan bete sig hur som helst och hur man helt plötsligt vaknar fyra halvvuxna människor i samma hotellsäng och inte kan sluta skratta. Och vi mindes hur jag fick köpa nya Converse när jag tappade bort den ena av det första paret på ett hotellrum under Peace&Love, och vi mindes hur fulla vi var på Hultsfred och hur ingen dansade när jag spelade skivor där och hur jag ringde mitt i natten när jag fått skjuts till Storsjöyran och inte förstod att det skulle ta ett dygn innan jag var framme. Och så skrattade vi åt hur jag hoppade i en säng på en efterfest hos Sahara Hotnights.

Men mest så mindes vi allt vi inte mindes. Som de här två fotona.

Idag börjar den 25:e bokmässan på Svenska mässan i Göteborg. Själv beger mig till Göteborg ikväll och tänkte besöka mässan imorgon. Jag vet inte riktigt vilken bokmässa i ordningen det är för mig men det har helt klart blivit en del under åren. Jag tycker verkligen om att gå där bland montrar, den en obskyrare än den andra, författare och en massa småfulla bibliotikarier. För bokmässan är verkligen litteraturens Hultsfred. I alla fall som Hultsfred var tills för några år sedan. Då när hela musikbranschen begav sig till de småländska skogarna och hängde på backstage-området och drack öl och nördade ner sig om musik från förr och nu. Det är ju alltid trevligt att träffa likasinnade. Precis så är det på bokmässan. Man snurrar runt bland alla utställare ute på golvet, hälsar på någon man känner och kanske beger man sig till mässbaren för att avnjuta en öl. På kvällen är det sen dags för den traditionella efterfesten på Park Hotell på Avenyn.

Jag återkommer i nästa vecka med en höjdpunkter från mässan och även med lite boktips i höstens bokskörd.

I simply love Maja Ivarsson. She’s got it all. Amazing voice, the style, attitude, you name it. Did you know she was born i Skåne? This song is from their third (and latest) record, and it brings back memories.

När man jobbar med speedway i Målilla bor man hos Gösta på hotell Hulingen i Hultsfred. Punkt slut…
Kultstämpel och nostalgifaktor så att det räcker och lagom långt till banan i Målilla.

Peter Nahlin, Maria Wallberg och jag , dvs TV-sportens team på plats i helgen släpar in grejerna för en snabb incheckning. Trodde vi.

Framför oss en superslimmad vältränad comebackande speedwayförare– Antonio Lindbäck.
Han skulle boka in sej själv och minst åtta mekar, i olika rum och olika tider och dubbelsängar och enkelsoffor
och vi fattade ingenting. Dessvärre heller  inte den tålmodiga damen i receptionen som till slut gav upp,
slängde upp två nycklar på disken.- Du gör som du vill, suckade hon till Anton.

Precis som om han inte alltid gjort det, tänkte jag…

Apropå en av Sveriges i särklass bästa textförfattare, så har han mycket välförtjänt blivit utsedd till 2009 års Taubestipendiat! Med anledning av detta har tidningen Vi en stor intervju med honom. Sedan har jag också hittat låten Ett sällsynt exemplar från kommande skivan Tänk om jag ångrar mig och sen ångrar mig igen ute på You Tube. Tydligen spelade han den på Hultsfred och Peace and Love nu i sommar, men då var den titellös. Bra låter det iallafall, särskilt refrängen tilltalar mig. Nu längtar jag ännu mer efter resten av skivan…

I Oslo i våras spelade han en annan ny låt som förhoppningsvis finns med på nya plattan den också:

Jag och Sara gjorde några tappra försök att ta tankeboksprojektet till Hultsfredsfestivalen. Men det gick sådär. Böckerna försvann en efter en. Här är några utdrag som jag hann fotografera innan det var försent.

Jag skrev i ett tidigare inlägg om festivalernas osäkra framtid. Nu verkar det faktiskt som att självaste Hultsfred, den Svenska festivalsommarens moderskepp går på knäna. Sorgligt, men tyvärr ganska väntat. Inget varar för evigt och framför allt inte när konkurrenterna blir allt starkare.

Den svaga uppdateringen av bloggen beror till lika delar på en sinande musikstimulans och lika delar ett internet som fungerar 15 minuter åt gången.

Nu glömmer väl inte att följa PSL:s Sommaren med Lykke? Det slår förra sommarens Kent-följetong Stjärnorna i psykbunkern med hästlängder.

Snart kommer en Spotify-spellista med idel vissel-låtar, d.v.s. låtar med ett visselparti (för den som inte kunde räkna ut det). Det finns oväntat många att välja på, men en top 10-lista är målet.

This was a concert planned in quite a short time, but I think that’s what made the experience an amazing one overall. Saw the poster one day, after a week I buy the tickets and after another week (or maybe 2), departure time.
We left Oslo on Friday night at 11PM after a bbq in Frognerpark where I had the bad inspiration to play badminton. I mean, I really missed playing it, but the pain I had in the back from that was not what I needed that weekend. Oh well, it was some 6 or 7 hours in the bus from Oslo to Malmö. And as usual I wasn’t able to find a decent position in which I could fall asleep. I must have tried having my feet and arms all over the place (probably to my friend’s despair) and every postion except facing the chair…Oh well, I was mentally prepared not to get sleep. Then there was a train to Näsjö. Bigger chairs, maybe I caught some sleep. Then a smaller train to Hultsfred, already crowded and noisy. Then the smallest train on earth (only 1 wagon) filled with metalheads and confused locals taking us to the festival ground which was on the other side of the lake.

Once there I kept asking people where I can store my backpack so I don’t have to wander around with it, but I could as well have asked them who was the 2nd king of the Assyrian Empire and would have gotten the same result. So there I was at a festival feeling like a camel.

First sight – encouraging nevertheless – a huge number of toilets. For those of you (girls mainly) who go to public events know what it means to dance in the queue after you waited for the concert to end. At least I didn’t have to do that. Others did though…not sure why. But was a nice feeling to pass by them and just find a free cabin right around the corner.

Then a walk around the festival grounds, where there was a surprisingly high number of tents with merchandise and food. I mean, it was a one day festival afterall. But I think it’s all because the bigger 3 days festival had just had place a week before so they didn’t bother relocating stuff. Which was all to our advantage. I found myself a Hello Kitty (Goodbye kitty actually) tshirt and Wouter got a nice Mastodon one which I’m gonna chase in a girly version maybe. Then greek food seemed to taste good. Same did my pastas. The complain would be about the drinks bar right in the middle of the area, right between the two stages where everyone was more or less spending a long time and trying to be friendly with the people in front to get a beer. They only had 4 guys (girls) serving. But there’s sneaky stuff to learn from Dutchies at concerts :p Besides seeing them recognizing songs just by hearing half a second of a riff. Ah, there was also a little entertainment area, where people could go rock climbing, riding a spinning bull or erm, hard to describe it but something like pulling an elastic wire as far as you could, touch a target then let yourself pulled back. . Like that.

But the idea of a festival is to enjoy the music or at least to pay attention to it. So enough about non-musical part of the trip. First band we saw was…erm, something with A. Here’s the playlist anyway . I have no memories of what they sounded like, but just of a naked guy on the stage taking photos of the crowd and by the time I got my camera out, he went backstage. That’s a certain way to make an impression. Then on the main stage there was a band formed of 4 kids who probably won a Guitar Hero contest and they got to play a Metallica song. Nice idea from the organizers I guess, to fill in time. I am not sure if they were really supposed to play or they filled in for Anthrax who had to cancel due the singer being sick.

Time for music, finally. The fiesta started with Lamb of God. Same as Graspop, a stage full of speakers. I think they contain energy supplies for the singer plus voice harshness substance. He’s continously moving around, screaming from the bottom of his lugns (and maybe other organs too) and has a fetish for variations of the word fuck (click here for definitions). They didn’t play much (actually the bands at the beginning seemed like part of some sort of speed dating since they played less than one hour I think). But as long as they included Walk with me in Hell, Now you’ve got something to die for and Ruin everyone was happy and cheered along, except those busy with the moshpit in front of the stage. Plus Redneck, Laid to Rest, Black Label – from what I recall. Again, they kept dedicating songs to the crowd, organizers, other bands (Ruin to Meshuggah, Laid to rest to Metallica). I personally consider this to be a very respectful sign and I like them even more for doing it.

Then a concert I was so looking forward for. Meshuggah. Goddamn it, they rock. And it sucked cause they had a 30 mins performance… But again, the impossible drumming and guitar riffs that you try to find a logic in so you can headbang…and just when you found it they change again to something new. Plus the bass that was almost kicking your stomach. All backing up the insane ’singing’ of Jens Kidman and his body banging as I call it. They started with Pravus which is a kickass start for a concert. And there was something I don’t remember now, Rational Gaze and The new millenium cyanide christ and then there was silence

On the main stage Cradle of Filth started manifesting themselves. As I said, maybe if I started listening to black metal at the time they were on tops, I would have maybe enjoyed it. But by now I have other bands in this genre I love…with much better vocals in my opinion. Not to mention the looks. I mean, I don’t want to mention the looks of that dwarf again. Brrr…let’s move on. I can give him credit for the screams he’s having but I prefere to hear them from the queue at the pasta stand.

Next up the best concert of the festival. Mastodon. To me at least. Besides the fact that they know how to play music and how to compose good stuff before they come and play it in front of the crowd, beside the funny faces made by the singer, beside the harsh vocals that drive me mad…there was rain. It had rained earlier as well, during Meshuggah I think. But now it started slowly during the first song, sort of stopped, then during a sea related song it started pouring harder and harder almost on the rhythm of the song. And I kept headbanging in the rain. That’s quite a unique sensation and it’s absolutely fun. At this point I would go to their concerts every day if possible. They started out with Oblivion which works so cool as an opener. And the lazy rhythm of The Czar…mmm. Now that I have the rest of their albums I am gonna learn the other songs and be able to recognize the rest of the playlist too :p

Back to the main stage to see Machine Head. Wouter told me that their initial albums are some reall good thrash and pointed out when they were playing songs from them. I admit, sounded good and energic – I never heard Machine Head before. So I could only enjoy the sick songs and then be surprised by the change of style to the more melodic stuff that almost felt MTVish. No idea what songs they played, but without making the most powerful impression on me, I enjoyed the drumming on most of the songs in the end. And the voice is not bad, not bad. The guitars they had on stage were actually funny looking, one of them having small circles on it, one was transparent. They also had small sound problems.

Think The Hives followed on the small stage. I really wanted to see them, but my knees had an obession. ‘ SIT DOWN!’. So had to go to one of the places where they had benches since it rained like hell and sitting on the ground was out of question. Would have been more correct to say sitting in the ground. I heard The Hives combined with some Guitar hero tunes I think, including Ac/DC and Metallica. And with Swedish dialogues between drunk chicks and drunk guys around me. All these while getting some 10 mins of sleep with the head on the table. I got to film the last song of the concert though. So all I saw from Hives was a bunch of people dressed in white who managed to fill the area in front of the stage. And the crowd seemed entertained.

There came The Cult on the main stage. Hardly knew their songs, but they opened with She Sells Sanctuary. Obviously with their 80’s look, dressed in black, the singer wearing gloves (missing MJ?) and sunglasses (which made him very uncool for me) and dancing around with the mic or interacting with objects on the stage. But after the first song, it honestly all sounded the same without anything to make my heart beat faster. It was more interesting looking at the crowd peeing in the bushes by the lake or jumping over little ponds formed after the rain. Eventually we gave up and went to sit down where Primal Scream was due to start afterwards. There we studied the cleaness of my used-to-be-black boots and Wouter soon-to-be-trash ones. And intreacted with some Swedish folks…though I did it in my sleep mainly.

Primal Scream started on the secondary stage. I only knew ‘The rocks’ from them and I was expecting their music to be in the same tune, for some reason. Then I learned they do a lot of movie soundtracks. And I don’t deny they make good movie music. It’s perfect for that. They just didn’t fit in the festival in my opinion. And not at that late hour…they were like a somniphere before Metallica started and after the crazy bands at the beginning of the day. The outfit of the members seemed pretty fancy, at least as much as you can see in the almost neverending red light that was covering the stage. Interrupted by a blue one occasionally. But one guy had a white suit…and maybe he was very proud of it as he kept turning his back to us to show how white it was. Guess due tiredness this annoyed me. And also there was hardly any crowd in front of the stage.

I was sad that we finally came to the final act (!) of the festival, the long awaited Metallica. But I was also happy foreseeing a long time of sitting down. I recall that I saw 23:45 as the starting hour for the concert. They indeed lowered the lights intensity around that time…but didn’t start until midnight. So I really hope I saw it wrong, else it’s quite embarassing to be treated like that ‘I’m a superstar and you wait for me to bother showing on the stage’.
They started with a classical piece from the western The good, the bad and the ugly. Then with some battery. Which worked as a battery for the rest of the concert, together with the following tune, Fuel. That couldn’t lack the pyro effects – cool impressive ones. They also had fireworks, but I don’t remember at which songs.

Hetfield seemed like enjoying the evening, even if his voice doesn’t seem to support him as much as it used to. He has to lower down or shorten some verse endings. The not-so-new guitarist with his impressive hair made a good impression (and not just because of the hair) and actually they pulled out nice guitar solos along their concert. The speech or the interaction with the crowd was – even if probably well rehearsed by now – pleasant and in a good tune. Except when he started with too much bla bla bla about the Metallica family. Come on…They also lack a bit of spontaneity in my opinion, but I am sure this is what many years of carreer, especially such a famous one, make of you.
Other songs they played: Fade to Black, One, Nothing Else Matters (with a great support from the crowd that always gives me the goosbumps when I hear it), a Misfits cover, Enter Sandman (woohooo), Seek and Destroy, Creeping Death, songs from newer albums that I never heard…The public obviously enjoyed the performance, sung a lot along with the band and it was quite cool when ONLY the crowd performed, without any instruments. The show was strictly 2 hours, including the comeback. But by the time it ended, we were almost at the train station, trying to avoid the incoming pile of beer carriers.

Leaving with a very good and positive feeling from the festival, the attempt to sleep in the station in Hultsfred turned out to be very unsuccessful. So luckily we found a room in a hotel, cheaper than we found when we tried at noon. I more or less woke up every hour scared of missing the train – yea, paranoia But was good to have a nice breakfast, then again, get our asses on those train seats to Kalmar…reading, sleeping, looking for better positions to rearrange your bones. We spent few hours in Göteborg while waiting for the bus. One of them was with a really nice friend of Wouter so got to hear a bit about life in Sweden and/or Göteborg, but not only. Then had a good kebab then…off tot he bus. I certainly have to go there at least for one weekend since it looks like a fun city. Plus it has a big funpark next to it. Mmm.

A few words about the Swedish landscape, at least in the southern part: there is none. There are only trees. And when you had enough of trees, there’s more trees. And train stations. Then back to trees. Sometimes the trees are cut down and stored in piles, yet they’re still counted as trees. So I guess that explains Ikea. But the moment you approach the Norwegian border…mmm…mini fjords, hills, trees (but not half a meter away from your window)…you can see around. Oh well, that’s all folks. And it rocked!

Hultsfredsfestivalen har ekonomiska problem och en nedläggning eller rejäl bantningskur verkar vara på gång. (AB, SvD, Sydsvenskan) Det kniper till i hjärtat av tanken på nedläggning, trots att det var många år sedan jag var där senast… (2001 ?). Men man har ju så många underbara minnen från Hultsfred!

Jag tittar på en genomgång i AB och kommer fram till att jag nog också var på festivalerna 1991, -93, -95, -97 och -98 (Black Sabbaths återförening fick mig att bryta sviten av udda årtal!). Det bästa året för mig var utan tvekan 1993; Ramones och Iggy Pop, Jim Rose Cirkus Sideshow och jag satt på Hulingens strand i gryningen tillsammans med en snubbe från Hedningarna som spelade Digeridoo… Magiskt! Andra fantastiska minnen är de finska galningarna i Eläkeläiset som vi såg tre dagar i rad, det sjuka moshandet som Sick of it all manade fram och förstås alla timmar på campingen tillsammans med så många fantastiska människor!

Men, nostalgi är nostalgi… Det blir aldrig som förr… Visst är en nedbantning av Hultsfred att föredra framför nedläggning, men huvudsaken är ju att även dagens ungdomar får uppleva musikfestivaler. Om de sedan ligger i Hultsfred eller någon annanstans spelar ju inte så stor roll…egentligen.

Vi märkte snabbt att vi bodde grannar med några sångglada människor. Det var inget vanligt fylleskrålande från tälten bredvid utan stämmor och finess. Det visade sig att det var Potato Potato, alias Hultsfredskören som förgyllde vår tillvaro med sång och spex. Jag kände igen deras logga från klistermärken på Malmös lyktstolpar.
