Here is my last image in this study of normal household items. I don’t know how many of you have an oil can in your home. I didn’t until I got this one from my mother. It is brass and there is a lot of patina on it. I wanted to clean it first with Brasso but we didn’t have any. Again, I used my photocube and shot this in the mid-day sun in my backyard. I am very happy with all five photos in this series. I hope I can get some feedback from you.

Again, it was a beautiful day today. I will be signing up for school this week, I think on Tuesday or Wednesday. I am looking forward to going back to school after my semester off. I will be taking a portrait photography class and then maybe just an easy Windows 7 class I can do online. It will get me out of the house and I will be taking more photos. That is what I need to do.

Here is number four of five. Again, I used the portacube along with a macro filter. This knife belonged to my mother. By looking at it, you can tell it is very, very old. Unfortunately, I do not know the knives history. I liked the embossing that is in the middle between the handle and the blade. Willie thinks the handle looks like part of a deers antler. What do you think? Is is a carving knife or a boning knife?

Well, today is Saturday and I am still catching up on my posts. I am watching The Dog Whisperer as I am typing this. I sure wish I could take Donnan to his center. I can’t even imagine how much that would cost! Is it me or is it Donnan? The weather here in Huntington Beach has been really great all week. I have no complaints (something new for me)!

Here is my third image in a study of everyday household items. What do you think of this one? A lot of us cooks have this in the kitchen to wrap us a roast or truss a chicken, etc. Maybe you don’t use it very often, but when you need it, it better be there for you! I know the “rule of thirds” says you should not center your subject in the frame. Well, I centered this item and think it worked great. I used a +2 macro filter to get in close. I like the results.

It was a good day today. Still recovering from Thanksgiving. I got a little turkey from Mary so Willie and I could have a turkey sandwich – one of my favorites. There is still some left so I think we will have a club sandwich this week-end.  I look forward to that! I have not been working with Donnan as much as I should. I think Stephanie (the dog trainer) would be disappointed with me – I know I am!

Here is my second image for you to see in this current project of mine. Do you like it? We all have serving spoons in our home, but have you ever looked at one like this? I have several spoons like this of different colors that my mother-in-law gave me many, many, many years ago. I took this photograph outside in the mid-afternoon sun and I used my portacube. It is a great thing to have for product photography.

Well, today is Thanksgiving and we had a wonderful meal at my brother’s house. His wife Mary is a very good cook. We had turkey with all the fixin’s. I took a few more photos of the baby and especially Larry holding Caleb. He was getting some practice in for when he becomes a father in March. He has always liked kids and they really like him. He will be a great father!

Let me give you an example of what I mean.  A common underlying theme in my discussions with data experts and end users is that data can only report what it can see.  Let me say that again.  Data can only report what it can see. Why is that important you ask?  Let’s say that you were in the insurance service field and that you wanted to serve the African American Community.  You can target ethnicity but data will only pick up those people that self-report ethnicity of African American.  Last name in this case would not be nearly as effective as if you were targeting Hispanics or Latinos by Spanish Surname.  Another example is income.  Income is a self-reported filter that is contained in data only where people report it.  This means that you would miss some prospects to market to simply because some people don’t report income.  At that point you could make assumptions about income in geographies based on cost of living and wealth in specific zip codes, cities or areas.
