Richtig Fantasdick! Schon in meiner Jugend. Und seitdem ich dieses geniale und vor allem Bierwitzige Snowboard-Video beim Amatuerfilmfestival “FilmUp” gesehen habe (sie haben gewonnen!) ist es um mich geschehen! Der Beat, der Chor, die Stimme und die Effekte! Danke Bonnie!!!

Aber erzählt das mal besser nicht weiter! Ich scheine der einzige zu sein, die anderen findens immer Peinlich!

Tog bussen ner till Malmö igår eftermiddag. Trevligt trevligt att vara tillbaka i södern, men lite synd att behöva lämna all Halloweenpepp som Göteborg stod för i helgen. Kolla in Ladyfestbloggen så kan du se vad jag och Hannah har tipsat om som du kan göra i helgen om du är kvar i götet. Motsägelsefullt råka ju både Hannah och jag lämna staden just denna helg men men

Vad har Skåne att erbjuda då? Jag skulle vilja säga att det faktiskt – för en gång skull är ett rätt dåligt val att besöka Malmö. Halloween tycks inte firas vilket jag i och för sig enbart är tacksam för. Men inget som intresserar mig på vare sig Inkonst eller Babel, så det lutar åt att åka tillbaka till gamla Lund för äkta studentfäst. Roooligt.

Annars är nog Köpenhamn ledande i helgen.

Käraste Sofie ringde och peppade på att Sensation White kom till Köpenhamn i helgen. Jag är kluven. Vill åka nån gång även om jag inte tror att stämningen riktigt är vad jag personligen föredrar med helrör och bakåtslickade män, men det kommer nog vara bra drag.

Biljetterna är dock största orsaken till tveksamhet. Går på cirkus 800 SEK. Lägg till resan och övriga expenses så är man en bit över 1000 SEK… Borde kanske sparas till NYC istället?

Men såklart. Gillar man dansmusik är det fint. Även om SW går mer åt kommersiell house vilket inte är min favorit del i det hela så kommer det vara en hel del bra sets. Axwell och Sebastian Ingrosso kör back2back vilket säkert blir bra. Men jag peppar personligen främst på Tocadisco. Så kanske. Kanske.

Även i afton är det Copenhagen som står för den dansanta peppen. Omar S spelar på Under vand. Jag har dålig koll själv men Detroittechno at it’s best säger ryktet vilket låter trevligt. Under vand har helt undgått min kännedom. Möjligen för jag aldrig letar fest i Köpenhamn kanske? Men tycks boka grymma klubbkvällar, så kolla in deras hemsida. Dessutom är man ju i Köpenhamn alldeles för sällan så det känns som det är dags kanske?

Avslutningsvis. Satt och kollade på de mest sedda you-tubeklippen, och i mitt sökande efter dansanta ting, fastnade jag för dansanta fångar oväntat nog.

‘I Need A Hero!‘

Not really of course …it just happens to be one of the songs in the Footloose Musical I get to do in mid-November or so.  The scores just came in I was perusing some of the tunes of yesteryear.  It looks pretty straight forward though.  Lots of key changes of course, but generally rock.  And some roll I suppose.  Maybe even a mix of the two …that’s exciting.  I think?!

Aside from that, I’m hoping to sell off the ibook (500) tomorrow, which is the precursor to the selling of the iMac (2.4 GHz) within the next few weeks, which is also the indicator of the soon to be arriving Macbook.  Yep, I decided it was time to get back to the laptop thing …and I have a feeling the timing might be right.  My iMac is pretty current for being almost a few years old, but rumor down the pipe is that there’s a change a-comin’ …and I don’t want to be stuck with it when it’s too far out of the loop.

For a guy who doesn’t like to be behind the times though, you might wonder why I decided to order the recently discontinued Macbook Unibody instead of going for the firewire/SD-slot/7-hour battery Macbook Pro that just released?  Well, and it may come back to bite me, but I think the Macbook is on its way out.  The MBPro is here to stay, but I sense a small ‘netbookish’ offering from Apple sometime next summer.  Something between the Macbook and the iPhone, and that should squeeze the Macbook into that 5th dimension that the made-for-tv classic Spiderman was so often in.  Essentially I’m thinking that the unibody Macbook of today is going to become the Clamshell of tomorrow.  Or that’s my hope at least.  Time will tell I guess.

And in the meantime I’ll be watching for the postman to arrive …and hoping he doesn’t get stuck in the 5th!

The headline of Howard Fineman’s piece today in Newsweek caught my eye:  Does he have what it takes? Well we know the answer to that.  We’ve been saying  Obama wasn’t ready to be President since he announced his bid after spending less time in the U.S. Senate then I did brushing my teeth this morning.  But I was told that the reason I was saying that was because I was racist.  In fact, when Hillary Clinton made an ad asking voters who they wanted answering the phone at 3 a.m. in the White House, Obozo’s army of zombies said she was fearmongering, and maybe just a little bit racist too.  Anyone remember the “subliminal” message on the child’s pajamas?  You know, the letters that spelled “nig…”?

Senator Clinton can be easily cleared–or convicted–on one subliminal message question. The letters “nig” appear about 11 seconds into her “3 a.m.” advertisement, on the pajamas of a sleeping child.

If the letters “nig” are in those older copies, the whole issue is a tempest in a teapot. If they were added for the Clinton ad, her campaign ends immediately. To me, that’s news worth exploring. Does anyone know how to hunt down the stock video footage?

Oh, it was racist all right, and not only that, how dare she suggest that a shrill woman would be able to handle a “situation” better than cool hand Luke Obama?  Did anyone read this obnoxious sexist rant from celebrity asshole Larry David? (in its entirety because it is just so fucking unbelievable):

Here’s an idea for an Obama ad: a montage of Clinton’s Sybillish personalities that have surfaced during the campaign with a solemn voiceover at the end saying, “Does anyone want this nut answering the phone?”

How is it that she became the one who’s perceived as more equipped to answer that 3 a.m. call than the unflappable Obama? He, with the ice in his veins, who doesn’t panic when he’s losing or get too giddy when he’s winning, who’s as comfortable in his own skin as she’s uncomfortable in hers. There have been times in this campaign when she seemed so unhinged that I worried she’d actually kill herself if she lost. Every day, she reminds me more and more of Adele H., who also had an obsession that drove her insane.

A few weeks ago, I started to feel sorry for her. Oh Christ, let her win already…Who cares…It’s not worth it. There’s not that much difference between them. She can have it. Anything to avoid watching her descend into madness. So I switched. I started rooting for her. It wasn’t that hard. Compromise comes easy to me. I was on board.

And then I saw the ad.

I watched, transfixed, as she took the 3 a.m. call…and I was afraid…very afraid. Suddenly, I realized the last thing this country needs is that woman anywhere near a phone. I don’t care if it’s 3 a.m. or 10 p.m. or any other time. I don’t want her talking to Putin, I don’t want her talking to Kim Jong Il, I don’t want her talking to my nephew. She needs a long rest. She needs to put on a sarong and some sun block and get away from things for a while, a nice beach somewhere — somewhere far away, where there are…no phones.

What. A. Dick.

Anyway, back to Howard,  he’s starting to ask the same questions that we were asking about 2 years ago.  Funny that it didn’t occur to him to wonder about these things until now.  Now, when it is too fucking late to do anything about it.

Surfer that he is, President Obama should know a riptide when he’s in one. The center usually is the safest, most productive place in politics, but perhaps not now, not in a once-in-a-century economic crisis.

Swimming in the middle, he’s denounced as a socialist by conservatives, criticized as a polite accommodationist by government-is-the-answer liberals, and increasingly, dismissed as being in over his head by technocrats.

Yeah, you know, those people that actually do the work.  They’re starting to realize that their boss is the kind that would rather be golfing than leading.  The kind that has “big ideas” and expects everyone else to figure out the hard parts.  The problem is that his ideas are so ambiguous and flaky, that even seasoned government bureaucrats don’t know what to do with them.

But Howard still doesn’t get it (or pretends not to).  He points out that the public still supports Obama but forgets to mention the reason;  that they’ve been spoon fed Obama propaganda for the last several years by the media he is a part of.  The fact that Fineman is questioning Obama’s ability to handle the job at this late date is the reason he is still popular with the public.  The media abdicated its responsibility and didn’t vet him at all.  Worse, they participated in the race baiting and sexism against anyone who did ask questions.  So what else can journalists like Howard do except pretend to be flummoxed by Obama’s lack of leadership skills…

They have some reasons to be concerned. I trace them to a central trait of the president’s character: he’s not really an in-your-face guy. By recent standards—and that includes Bill Clinton as well as George Bush—Obama for the most part is seeking to govern from the left, looking to solidify and rely on his own party more than woo Republicans. And yet he is by temperament judicious, even judicial. He’d have made a fine judge. But we don’t need a judge. We need a blunt-spoken coach.

No, Howard, he is not some kind of Solomon who is two wise, two fair for his-and our-own good.  He is pandering to the Republicans feverishly and being not so politely told to stick it where the sun don’t shine.  Meanwhile, his own party is still so drunk on being in power that they don’t mind him playing Spokesmodel in Chief and fiddling while Wall St. burns.

But regardless of the totally laughable, back-handed compliment that Fineman uses to explain Obama’s downward turn in the approval of the “Establishment”, the message is clear.  Those that feel like they really rule the world (the media) are tiring of carrying his ass and not getting any heroic “Obama made the world safe for kittens today” headlines to titillate their audiences.  They don’t like to have to report that hundreds of thousands of Americans are losing their jobs and their homes.  They want inspirational.  So although Howard includes the “technocrats” as part of the establishment, what he is really saying is that Obama better start paying attention to his most important constituent, big media.

Obama may be mistaking motion for progress, calling signals for a game plan. A busy, industrious overachiever, he likes to check off boxes on a long to-do list. A genial, amenable guy, he likes to appeal to every constituency, or at least not write off any. A beau ideal of Harvard Law, he can’t wait to tackle extra-credit answers on the exam.

But there is only one question on this great test of American fate: can he lead us away from plunging into another Depression?

…The American people remain on his side, but he has to be careful that the gathering judgment of the Bigs doesn’t trickle down to the rest of us.

And by us, he means the unwashed masses that he likes to pretend to be one of.

But look at that last sentence.  Seems like a threat to me, doesn’t it?  I think what he’s saying is “if you don’t start acting like I want you to, I’m going to start telling the people that they really shouldn’t like you that much anymore”.  I don’t know what Howard thinks he’s going to get out of it.  Most likely its just uncontrollable narcissism leaking through to his readers. He’s threatening to undermine Obama’s popularity if he doesn’t act like Superman simply because he can.  Well, for now anyway.

One thing we can all agree on, I guess, is we need a hero…

This afternoon I spoke at the lunch time group at Thomas Hassall Anglican College. I spoke on Romans 5:8. Earlier this week I had the chance to hang out with the new year 7’s on their camp. Fun was had by all (well, I can’t speak for everyone, but I had fun).

No hay ciudad que necesite más un súper heroe que Caracas, en verdad, estamos en tantos aprietos que Ciudad Gótica y Metropolis juntas se quedarían pendejas.

Al parecer este es un sentimiento que comparto con mucha gente a una escala mucho más global. Necesitamos un heroe.

Mientras escuchan la canción “I need hero” les recomiendo que se paseen por la presentación que nos trae la gente Planning de Fallon, que en su breve ensayo “Return of the Real Hero” nos muestra que si existe la necesidad en las personas por un heroe real,  nos define las características que debe tener este Heroe Moderno, y nos enseña como las marcas pueden convertirse en “heroes”.

The good folks over at Whedonesque posted a link to this video (most likely put together by a Browncoat) and I thought I’d help spread it a little further:

One night, my family and I watched a DVD movie entitled, “Shrek 2.” Everybody loved it especially the kids who laughed so hard. I found it fascinating when the evil fairy godmother danced and sang to the tune of, “I need a hero.”

The chorus goes something like this:
“I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding on for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life (larger than life)”

While listening, I was transported back to the 80s for a few seconds because I could hear Bonnie Tyler in my head. She sang the original. But hats off to the fairy godmother who danced like a teen superstar, to our amazement. Where did she get the energy?

What is it about heroes that somehow, like the song said, we need them? They do something to us. Allow me to enumerate.
1. Heroes give us hope. Ninoy Aquino stirred hope among his countrymen when he made the statement, “the Filipino is worth dying for.” Those powerful words resonated. The weary Filipino heart did not give up hope. The former senator backed up his words by taking a plane from the USA, where he was in exile, back to the Philippines.

He knew that he could be going home to his death. He was assassinated in the airport. But his death strengthened the hope of many for a new Philippines. Eventually, events led to the bloodless EDSA Revolution that removed a dictator from power.

2. Heroes inspire us. Jose Rizal’s two novels; the Noli me Tangere and the El Filibusterismo, crystallized the oppression of the Spaniards. This inspired many to fight for freedom in a more aggressive manner, but it would be his death that would be the catalyst of the Philippine Revolution. He inspired not only Filipinos but writers in general. The novels showed that the pen is mightier than the sword.

3. Heroes pass the baton to us. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to white passengers. James Blake, the strict bus driver, had her arrested. This sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a movement against racial segregation. This movement launched a new hero, Martin Luther King Jr..

He became the standard to which people gathered around. His famous speech, I have a Dream, is considered one of the best American speeches. In a way, Rosa Parks passed the baton to Martin Luther King Jr. And in a way, Martin Luther King Jr. passed on the fight to many others.

4. Heroes become models for us to follow. Denzel Washington won the Oscars’ best actor award in 2001 for his lead role in Training Day. The first part of his speech reflect how he viewed Sidney Poitier as his model. Sir Sidney Poitier was the first African-American who won the same award for his role in Lilies of the Field in 1963.

Denzel honored Sir Sidney, “Oh, God is good. God is great. God is great. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all. Forty years I’ve been chasing Sidney [Poitier], they finally give it to me, what’d they do?… I’ll always be chasing you, Sidney. I’ll always be following in your footsteps. There’s nothing I would rather do, sir. Nothing I would rather do. God bless you. God bless you…”

These are just some of the things that heroes do to us. Though most have gone, their memories live on, continually challenging us.

We need heroes in our lives. We also need to be heroes for others. Maybe someday, like Denzel, some will say, God is good, God is great because our lives inspired them.
