The Movie Overdose boys jet off into space with Duncan ‘Zowie Bowie’ Jones for his directorial debut, Moon. The guys then have a chat about Steven Spielberg as regards the twin Hs of Harvey and Halo and the potential of future installments of the Pirates of the Caribbean story. They then have a chat about the need for documentary and biopic subjects to be interesting, the food in Big Night, the scale of Avatar and the relentless cynicism of Ace in the Hole. The boys conclude with a round-up of trailers, noting whether Wes Anderson’s Mr Fox is looking Fantastic, why James McTeigue will never make it and questioning if the gents in Hot Tub Time Machine could ever really be friends.

Mercy is moody. Many people aren’t sure how they feel about Rocco DeLuca and The Burden’

Mercy is moody.

Many people aren’t sure how they feel about Rocco DeLuca and The Burden’s latest album Mercy because its less rock-focused than his first album, I Trust You To Kill Me. It’s not that Mercy isn’t rock-focused, it’s a different type of rock. It’s soulful blues infused rock.

The first album was much more commercial. Think about it, a lot of the the tracks on I Trust You To Kill Me would be considered acceptable for mainstream pop radio stations. This isn’t to say that Mercy’s tracks aren’t radio worthy, they just have a different feel and belong in a more focused genre and setting. Mercy is an album you’d really enjoy because of the artistry behind it.

DeLuca collaborated with producer Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan) to create this poetic 11 track album. It literally feels like DeLuca is singing you his poetry. Actually, he kind of is! Check out The Link’s interview with DeLuca to see what we mean.

His guitar riffs on his Dobro guitar literally vibrate through the speakers and into your soul. Although I would have liked a few more upbeat songs like on the first album, I really do enjoy the album and its purpose and I appreciate it all the more after learning of how it was crafted with so much passion.

Favourites: I Trust You to Kill Me, Nightingale, Save Yourself

..is the name of the latest release by Rocco DeLuca & The Burden. They hail from Long Beach SoCal, but their sound seems like it was dug out of the bayou, laced with pop-sensibilities, and indie-fied [totally not a word, but writing a personal dictionary comes along with the territory of blogging]. With DeLuca’s dobro and wailing vocals, this four-piece band/pièce-de-resistance is enjoyed better in a live context. Their studio material falls flat without the dynamic of a live performance. Totally weird fact – they were signed by Kiefer Sutherland’s label Ironworks. Yes, that’s the guy from 24. No, I don’t know why he has authority in the music business. Since their touring schedule is relatively non-existent, unless you live in California, I found a clip of Rocco DeLuca doing his solo thing. ‘Cause honestly – he’s much yummier when you can get him alone.

I just wanted to post a shameless plug for my own website, Inner Ear. Inner Ear is a music website that used to focus solely on promotion, but because I do pretty much everything myself, it was kinda hard to keep on doing a good job on that. So the focus has shifted more towards reviews & interviews. Things are going slightly better again lately, after a few months where things were quiet (well, i had to graduate too).

You can also find us on Myspace & Last.FM
