I am a lover of television that is both intelligent and different. I like controversy and strong character development. I like plots that delve into the unknown and challenge the watcher to think beyond the norm. 

Hence, I absolutely love The X-Files. The show was created by Chris Carter and first aired in 1993, and ran for an amazing nine seasons. The show revolves around Agent Fox Mulder, a man who’s belief in extraterrestrials and the paranormal pushes him into seeking the truth in every step of his life even as an FBI agent. The other leading character in this show is the stoic Agent Dana Scully, also a medical doctor, who is originally partnered with Mulder to disprove his theories on the X-Files by FBI higher ups.

They fight, together, to uncover the truth, each step of the way finding new tidbits of information. Scully rationalises Mulders far-out theories, while Mulder pushes Scully to see the truth. To see that there really is more out there than science can easily explain. 

The X-Files series is a integral piece of television history, for both it’s impact on pop culture and it’s many legions of fans. But for me, it’s simply a brilliant show that is led strongly and beautifully by two amazing and flawed characters whose only real constant is their faith in each other.

This is a show for those who want to watch a masterpiece of science and the supernatural, of conspiracy and government entanglements, of human nature and inhuman evil.

Still to this day, I can watch and re-watch an episode and see something I had missed previously. This show has so many layers it just never gets boring.

I think it’s time for a new banner. In fact, this whole blog really just needs a complete makeover. Too much blah, not enough bling. Daylight savings was nice to have but I really didn’t interpret it as an extra hour of sleep. More like an extra hour to do chores. Garbage.

Short Movie Review: The X-Files: I Want To Believe

Ok, I saw the first X-Files movie in the theaters when it first came out (oh so long ago) and was very confused/disappointed with the whole thing. I grew up with the series when I was younger and my whole family was obsessed with it (well, I was obsessed) and almost stopped watch towards the later seasons when the story lines just went completely haywire. It went from investigating "paranormal" activity reports to just being all about aliens and government conspiracies. Not to say I don’t love a good conspiracy theory, but it got to be a bit much when clones started being introduced. It did make me very much want to be an FBI agent for a good couple years. The best part really was the obvious tension between the FBI partners, Mulder and Scully, and that was probably the one saving grace of the show towards the end.

This movie, however, did redeem the X-Files franchise for me, considering the choices made by the writers. It wasn’t about alien abductions, but about a paranormal activity. It was more like watching an extended early episode, except our heroes are no longer FBI agents and are fighting with their own personal demons. Personal Gripe: Considering Mulder and Scully are at this point so far involved with each other that they are, infact, living together, why is it that they still refer to each other by their last names? Even during high emotional scenes, it’s still "Mulder and Scull" never "Fox and Dayna." Granted, I understand this is how they’ve referred to each other for years, but you would think anyone as committed as they are would make a point of using each other’s first names during extremely serious situations. For example, Mulder is lying half frozen in the snow when Scully finds him. Does she call him Fox? No, never. Why not??

All in all, as much as I did love the show, I’m glad I did not see this in the theater – I think I would have left extremely disappointed. Any fans of the show will enjoy it but I think so much more could have been done with both the character development and plot. It’s almost as if more money was spent on making realistic bodies than on the script.

Well, hmm. I must admit I was a little underwhelmed and I do hope that they would have went with the conspiracy storyline instead of the stand alone. I was open to the idea before, but now that I have seen it, I just don’t think it was on a big enough scale for a movie. It seemed like just a regular TV episode. So there, that is my main problem with the film, and it is a pretty big problem, but its out of my system now.

On to the good stuff. It was absolutely fantastic to see Mulder and Scully together again. Their relationship one of the major reasons this show was such a success, if no the primary reason. They have such chemistry. Duchovney and Anderson both know these characters inside and out and it definitely shows on screen.
I also love the romance in this film> It is not a usual movie romance full of passion and what-have you, but rather its a very mature romance which you can tell goes very deep.For two characters whose sexual tension on TV was built up for years, this is exactly how the love between them should feel and i think they hit it perfectly.

Connelly gave us a great performance as the psychic the FBI have been following around, really top notch. The story was pretty run of the mill for the X-Files, but the dialgoue was great and when you look at the movie as a character piece (for both the characters) it works very well.

So, underwhelming in the context of a feature film, but still the X-Files at its heart.

Somewhere between 7 and 8, but going with 8 cause its X-Files and i have a soft spot.

And oh yeah, having Skinner show up was awesome.

I came to a disturbing realization the other day. I was thinking about UFOs. Ever since personal cameras have been available people all over the world have been taking pictures of UFOs. There are only three ways to explain the existence of these photos:

1. They were all manipulated. However, this seems unlikely since so many different people from different cultures have seen UFOs. Even last year in Texas a priest and a sherrif swore they saw one.

2. There are aliens from another planet who are visiting our planet, and there’s a worldwide conspiracy involving most of the first world governements to cover it up. While it’s statistically likely that there is alien life somewhere in the universe the chances of them finding us and hiding using the help of our governements is absurdly small.

3. One or more of our militaries right here on earth invented a radical form of propulsion engine and isn’t sharing the knowledge with the rest of us for greedy reasons. If the simplest explanation is usually the right one then this is the most likely explanation for the existence of UFOs. We even know for a fact that the American government kept the Blackbird and the Stealth Bomber secret for decades.

Now, what is another word of a vehicle that hovers and flies through the air? The fucking flying car, that’s what! Our government has had the flying car for years and isn’t letting us poor, miserable inner city commuters get our hands on it.

I want my fucking flying car already.

SEASON 7

“Ich kam um etwas zu suchen, von dem ich glaubte, dass es gar nicht existiert.
Ich bin dageblieben. Es widerspricht meiner innersten Überzeugung. Es widerspricht allem, was ich immer für wahr gehalten habe.
Ich werde hier weitermachen, so lange ich kann. So lange diese unheimliche Krankheit, die Ihren brillanten Geist verdunkelt, Sie beherrscht.”

Die siebte Staffel konnte bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt ohne Frage als die bisher schwächste Staffel angesehen werden. Auch wenn, um das einmal vorweg zu nehmen, mit Requiem ein guter Staffel-Abschluss gefunden wurde, der noch einmal die erste Folge der Serie aufgreift, so waren die restlichen Episoden größtenteils unterdurchschnittlich. Man bekommt das Gefühl, dass die Serie nichts mehr zu erzählen hatte, nachdem in Season 6 die große Verschwörung aufgedeckt wurde. Hervorheben sollte man allerdings die gelungene, weil sehr amüsante Episode X-Cops, welche im Stil der amerikanischen Serie Cops gedreht wurde – hier sind es Scully und Mulder, welche von dem Kamerateam mehr oder weniger verfolgt werden. Nicht nur, das es scheinbar nichts mehr zu erzählen gab, man wird auch den Eindruck nicht los, dass die X-Akten sich selber nicht mehr so ernst nahmen. War es sonst in der Regel eine Folge pro Staffel, die man auch gut und gerne als Komödie bezeichnen konnte, so sind es hier mindestens zwei plus die Episoden, die man gar nicht mehr ernst nehmen konnte, wie zum Beispiel First Person Shooter. Erwähnenswert ist noch, dass die Suche nach Mulders Schwester in dieser Staffel ein Ende findet, allerdings mit Closure ein nicht wirklich würdiges. So einen esoterischen Quatsch findet man selten in der Serie.

Requiem hatte ich schon angesprochen: Ich war über Mulders Entführung, ehrlich gesagt, etwas erleichtert. Dies konnte nur bedeuten, dass sich in Staffel Acht etwas tun musste, denn diese Entführung konnte ja schlecht unter den Teppich gekehrt werden. Also, mit der Hoffnung auf Besserung:

SEASON 8

Man erkennt nichts. Ein blubberndes Geräusch erfüllt den Raum und so langsam lichtet sich das Bild. Sind das Gedärme? Schön sieht das nicht aus, und als die Kamera langsam herauszoomt, sieht man den schreienden Mulder inmitten dieser Szenerie. Plötzlich wacht Scully aus diesem Alptraum auf – und die Opening Titles der ersten Folge der achten Staffel beginnen. Einen genialeren Staffelbeginn im Anschluss an die Wartezeit nach der siebten Staffel kann man sich doch gar nicht wünschen? Im Anschluss dann die nächste Überraschung: Anstatt 2 Agents, werden im Eröffnungstitel plötzlich drei Ausweise gezeigt – John Dogget betritt die Akte X-Bühne und versucht sein Glück an der Seite von Agent Scully. Mulders Verschwinden hat zum einen eine Suchaktion ausgelöst, zum anderen hat sie Scully aber auch einen neuen Partner beschert. Dies brachte die Abwechslung in die Serie, die sie dringend brauchte. Nach der enttäuschenden siebten Staffel musste etwas geschehen, und Dogget war das Resultat. Die nun gläubige Dana Scully bekam einen skeptischen Partner und damit waren die Rollen getauscht. Der einzige Unterschied: Scully war durch ihre Erfahrungen mit Mulder bei weitem nicht so verständnisvoll, aber auch nicht so vertrauensvoll mit Dogget, wie dieser es gerne gehabt hätte. Dem Zuschauer jedoch konnte diese Neuerung nur Recht sein. Auch wenn der neue an Danas Seite teilweise recht nervig war und trotz seiner Karriere doch ziemlich naiv an manche Fälle heranging, so wurde die Serie nach sieben Jahren aus ihrer Monotonie gerissen. Es hat sich viel getan, die Verschwörung wurde aufgedeckt, Mulders Schwester wurde “gefunden”, Scullys Schwangerschaft – wie konnte man dann glauben, dass seine Entführung ohne Folgen bleiben würde? Das diese dann aber vom Publikum nicht akzeptiert wurden, ist sehr schade. “Wat der Bauer nich kennt, dat frett er nich” oder so ähnlich, und so gingen die Quoten bergab. Staffel acht war die vorletzte Staffel, ein Ende der X-Akten war abzusehen. Und das zu diesem Zeitpunkt völlig unbegründet: Nach der schwachen Season 7 ging es bergauf, die achte Staffel legte qualitativ wieder zu.

SEASON 9

“Schuldig eines minderschweren Vergehens. Vielleicht gehen sie darauf ein und lassen Dich frei.”
- “Lieber würde ich sterben als denen zu geben was die wollen.”
“Wie kannst Du so etwas sagen – Du redest mit mir.”
- “Das ist bedeutender als Du oder ich. Es geht hierbei um alles, wofür wir gearbeitet haben, neun Jahre lang. Um die Wahrheit, für deren Aufdeckung wir beide so viel geopfert haben.”

Season 9 war anders. Nicht nur, dass erstmals der Vorspann eine Frischzellenkur verpasst bekam (was auch dringend nötig war und sehr gut umgesetzt wurde), nein, auch die X-Akten selber veränderten sich. Während sich, rein produktionstechnisch gesehen, das Kinofeeling durch (zumindest subjektiv empfundenen) schnelleren Schnitt und beispielsweise ungewöhnliche Kamerafahrten verstärkte, wirkte das Ganze storytechnisch sehr unausgegoren. Das Ende wurde absehbar. Die Episoden Nothing Important Happened Today I+II haben bei mir genau das hinterlassen, was der Titel suggerierte. Wem die Verschwörung mit Außerirdischen schon zu viel war, der musste sich an die alberne Geschichte mit den “Supersoldaten” gewöhnen, die zwar schon in der vorherigen Staffel angesprochen wurde, aber Gott sei dank seit dem ruhen gelassen wurde. Auch die folgende Verbindung mit den Außerirdischen wirkte konstruiert, lieblos zusammengeschustert, und diesen Eindruck hat man auch von den MotW-Folgen. Lord Of The Flies beispielsweise war im Grunde nicht schlecht, aber leider hatte man hier nicht die Lust, Zeit oder was auch immer, sich einen ordentlichen Ausgang der Geschichte auszudenken. Zusätzlich ist es nicht zwingend Mulders Abwesenheit, die den X-Akten außerdem geschadet hat, es ist vielmehr die fehlende Chemie zwischen Dogget und Reyes, die aber dennoch von den Drehbuchautoren erzwungen wurde, sehr gut zu sehen in der eher zweifelhaften Episode Audrey Pauley. Bestenfalls zweifelhaft kann man auch die Folge Improbable nennen, in der es einen kleinen Gastauftritt von niemand Geringeren als Gott gibt. Es lief halt nichts mehr rund.

So sehr man aber auf der einen Seite ein Ende herbeigesehnt hat, um so mehr plötzlicher kam es dann andererseits. The Truth war dann aber entgegen aller Erwartungen im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes nichts Besonderes, sonders tatsächlich war es nur eine Zusammenfassung von 9 Jahren Akte X: Eine Gerichtsverhandlung, in der die wichtigsten Personen als Zeugen auftreten und ihre Geschichte – anhand von Rückblenden – erzählen. Das erinnert schon sehr an die Best-Of Folgen diverser amerikanischer Sitcoms, wenn Sendezeit gefüllt werden muss. So ungern ich das auch sage: Nach Season 9 war man froh, dass es vorbei ist. Vorerst.

AKTE X – JENSEITS DER WAHRHEIT

“Los, wir machen noch nen Film. Story? Hm… also mit Außerirdischen brauchen wir denen nicht mehr kommen, aber irgendwas Übersinnliches wäre nicht schlecht. Ein Hellseher? Gute Idee! Ok, Mulder und Scully müssen dabei sein. Verbindung zur Serie? Naja… das Poster muss her, und ein Bild von Samantha. Und dann muss Mulder auch unbedingt an sie erinnert werden! Scully war doch im immer gläubig und früher Ärztin oder? Na, dann arbeitet sie halt jetzt in einem christlichen Krankenhaus. Aber zweifeln muss sie! Ganz wichtig! Bitte was? Das will keiner sehen? Na dann gehen wir auf Nummer sicher und machen den Film günstiger. Wie wärs, wenn wir an den Effekten sparen? Brauchen wir bei der Story nicht. Und die deutsche Synchronstimme interessiert auch niemanden. Das wird ein Hit! Ganz sicher!”

Fazit

Die Geschichte der Serie war also nicht immer eine Entwicklung ins Positive. Akte X hat für meine Begriffe noch immer eine Ausnahmestellung unter allen Fernsehserien, und das mit Sicherheit auch mit Recht. Das nicht jede Staffel immer und immer besser werden konnte, ist auch verständlich. Schade ist nur, dass Chris Carter scheinbar nicht rechtzeitig gesehen hat, wann die Geschichte zu Ende erzählt ist, sondern auf Teufel komm raus weiter gemacht hat. Spätestens nach der achten Staffel hätte Schluss sein müssen. Und wenn man es denn so sehen will – den zweiten Kinofilm hätte es in dieser Form nie geben dürfen.

Die erneute bzw. Erst-Sichtung aller Staffeln und der Filme war trotz allem mal wieder ein Erlebnis, dass ich auf jeden Fall noch einmal wiederholen werde – wenn vielleicht auch erst ein paar Jahre später (wenn es dann noch Geräte gibt, die DVDs lesen können). Aber auch so wird es mit Sicherheit hin und wieder vorkommen, dass ich mal die eine oder andere Folge außer der Reihe sehen werde, denn Folgen, bei denen es sich lohnen würde, gibt es ja genug.

I want to believe.

Not necessarily in aliens or spirits or the Loch Ness Monster (at least not specifically) – but there is an awful lot of stuff out there that defies explanation. The planet’s weirdostat is set pretty high.

Most people will look at something like this and shrug it off as a hoax. And perhaps it is. But what of the Phaistos Disc? the Lid of Palenque? the Baghdad Battery? the Dropa Stones? The Antikythera Mechanism? The gazillions of other oddities and phenomena which sound like Robert Ludlum book titles?

Can they really ALL be hoaxes?

Isn’t there, perhaps, some small chance that maybe we’re WRONG about some of our assertions? Maybe our ‘facts’ aren’t as solid as we think they are when it comes to radioisotope dating*, geological strata, ice core sampling, or even the timing of evolutionary phases.

I’m not suggesting that people ever rode around on triceratops. That strikes me as a very good way to find oneself impaled on horns. At the very least, though, perhaps it means that someone in South America knew about dinosaurs before Westerners began digging them up in the 1850s. Similarly, the Baghdad Battery most certainly suggests that there were people 2500 years ago with some knowledge of electricity. We have pretty much accepted at this point that our ancient forebears had a surprising fluency in mathematics and astronomy – perhaps it’s time we gave a little more and began to seriously look into what else we might have forgotten.

History may be holding onto some seriously cool shit just waiting to be re-discovered.

Also? Perhaps there’s something to the aliens, spirits and/or Nessie as well.

SEASON 4

“Alles stirbt.”

Als diese Worte auf dem Fernseher auftauchten, konnte man noch gar nicht erahnen, was einem mit dieser Staffel erwarten sollte. Düsterer, epischer sollte diese Season werden, als es Akte X jemals war. Der großen Mythologie der Serie wurde ein so großer Spielraum gewährt, dass fast jede zweite Folge ein Teil des großen Ganzen war – und groß ist das richtige Wort. Großartige Folgen wie Herrenvolk, Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man und natürlich Tunguska 1 & 2 (um nur einige zu nennen), der Fan wurde verwöhnt. Ein Staffeltiefpunkt (der Staffel? Der Serie!) ist zwar auch vorhanden (The Field Where I Died), doch kann dies den Gesamteindruck kaum mindern. Eigentliche Monster-of-the-Week-Episoden entpuppen sich plötzlich als Vorspiel zu Scullys ganz persönlichem Drama (Leonard Betts), andere wiederum stellen uns die wohl furchteinflößendste Familie der gesamten Serie vor, die Peacocks (Home). Mulder beginnt außerdem zu zweifeln – basiert sein Glaube an Außerirdische letztendlich doch nur auf einer großen Lüge? Sein Zustand verschlechtert sich und er rutscht langsam in einen depressionsähnlichen Zustand. Alles endet mit Scully (in der Episode Gethsemane), die einen Leichnam identifizieren muss – ist es Mulder…? In Season 4 wird Gas gegeben – und das erste und letzte Mal wurde uns damit eine fast perfekte Season geboten.

SEASON 5

Dieses Niveau konnte dann jedoch mit der fünften Staffel nicht gehalten werden. Zwar fing diese schon etwas, wie der Name schon sagte, unüblich an (Unusual Suspects) und war, was den Hintergrund der beteiligten Personen angeht auch recht interessant und informativ, aber ein wirkliches Highlight bestand in dieser Episode noch nicht. Diese sollten, zumindest auf die Staffel bezogen, aber kurz darauf folgen: Mit Redux erwartete einen ein spannender Zweiteiler mit überraschenden Wendungen – der Krebskandidat erschossen, Scullys Krebs ist besiegt. An die Qualität der vierten Staffel konnten diese Folgen zwar nicht anknüpfen, dennoch zählen sie zu den wichtigsten der Serie. Und das kann man wahrlich nicht von vielen Folgen dieser Season behaupten: Die mehr oder weniger Doppelfolge Christmas Carol und Emily war beispielsweise ebenso belanglos wie langweilig. Die Monster-of-the-Week-Episoden waren ebenso zweigeteilt: Höhepunkte sind zweifelsohne Post-Modern Prometheus um eine mordende frankenstein’sche Kreatur, die sich in Cher verliebt hat, natürlich Chinga, das Drehbuch-Gastspiel von Stephen King, der hier unverkennbar seine Handschrift hinterlassen hat aber auch Bad Blood um einen angeblichen Vampir. Hier wird auf sehr lustige Weise dargestellt, wie unterschiedlich Scully und Mulder ihre Fälle und den jeweils anderen wahrnehmen. Aber Folie a Deux wiederum gefiel mir nicht mehr ganz so gut.

Die fünfte Staffel wirkte insgesamt gesehen nicht einheitlich – die MotW-Folgen waren vielleicht etwas zu abgedreht und komödiantisch ausgelegt, die Mythologie-Folgen mal hochspannend, dann todlangweilig. Mulder und Scully sieht man hier öfter als je zuvor von einander getrennt arbeiten, und wenn man den anschließenden Kinofilm bedenkt, mag das daran gelegen haben, dass auf diesem das Hauptaugenmerk lag, was schade ist – denn vielleicht wäre die Season 5 ansonsten besser geworden.

AKTE X – DER FILM

Für Serien-Kenner ein Must-See, bildet der Film doch die Verbindung zwischen Staffel 5 und 6. Ohne Vorkenntnisse wird der Film noch mysteriöser, sollte aber dennoch guckbar sein, da viele Ereignisse aus der Serie noch einmal angesprochen werden. Durchaus empfehlenswerter Mystery-Thriller, der die Serie ansprechend auf der großen Leinwand repräsentiert.

SEASON 6

“Sie glauben, dass Gibson Praise mit dem Virus infiziert ist?”
- “Nein, es ist Teil seiner DNA. Tatsache ist, dass es auch Teil unserer DNA ist. Man nennt es einen genetischen Rest. Inaktiver DNA-Müll. Nur bei Gibson ist er aktiv.”
“Wenn das wahr ist, bedeutet es, dass Teile des Jungen außerirdisch sind.”
- “Es bedeutet, dass wir alle so sind.”

Auch wenn im Vorfeld vieles versprochen wurde, so bot der Kinofilm letzten Endes doch nicht die erhofften Lösungen und neuen Erkenntnisse, doch wurde man auf vieles vorbereitet, was in der sechsten Staffel dann endlich gelöst wurde. Doch auch wenn am Ende des Films die X-Akten neu geöffnet wurden, müssen Scully und Mulder schon sehr bald feststellen, dass nicht sie den Akten zugeteilt werden, sondern Agent Spender und Agentin Fowley. Nicht alle Geschehnisse in Alaska sind dem Untersuchungsausschuss schlüssig, und so sind die beiden bis auf weiteres auf sich allein gestellt. Die neue Ausgangssituation verheißt dabei nichts gutes: Das Virus ist mutiert und erschaffte eine neue Lebensform. Das Syndikat wird nervös, und im Laufe der Staffel bricht schließlich alles zusammen, wofür diese “hervorragenden Männer” 50 Jahre lang gearbeitet haben.

“Scully, Sie haben es gesehen!”
- “Was hab ich denn gesehen Mulder? Ich hing die meiste Zeit bewusstlos über Ihrer Schulter!”

Scully, die bisher immer die Skeptische war, im entscheidenden Moment nicht hingeschaut hatte und sich auch von Beweisen nie wirklich überzeugen ließ, beginnt hier merklich an ihren wissenschaftlichen Überzeugungen zu zweifeln – die letzte Szene im Staffelfinale gibt ihr dann ja auch allen Grund dazu. Sie ist zwar noch nicht “gläubig”, lässt aber zumindest in Ansätzen im Verlauf der Staffel die Möglichkeit zu, dass Mulder Recht hat. Desweiteren erfährt der Zuschauer endlich mehr über den Krebskandidaten, seine Verbindung zu Agent Spender, aber auch zu Fox Mulders Vater. Überhaupt wird die Verschwörung in dieser Staffel ziemlich offen gelegt und sie bietet damit die Antworten, die einem der erste Kinofilm trotz aller Versprechen verwehrte.

Die sechste Staffel war ein zweischneidiges Schwert – die Mythologie-Folgen bewegten sich qualitativ auf dünnem Eis, gute Folgen (The Beginning, Two Fathers, One Son) wechselten sich ab mit eher schwachen Episoden, bei denen man nicht wirklich weiß ob man das ganze ernst nehmen soll (Dreamland I+II, The Unnatural). Auch wenn man froh ist, einige Antworten zu erhalten, so weiß man letztendlich nicht, was davon zu halten ist. Anders verhält es sich dann mit dem Rest der Staffel. Es gibt die großartigen Folgen wie zum Beispiel Triangle oder Three Of A Kind, aber so richtige Ausreißer nach unten gibt es (noch) nicht. Folgen wie Field Trip oder auch Terms of Endearment haben durchaus ihre Existensberechtigung und wissen auch zu unterhalten.
Insgesamt gesehen fällt es schwer, ein passendes Fazit zu ziehen, ist es doch um die vergeigten Mythologie-Folgen besonders schade, da diese doch als roter Faden die Serie am Leben erhalten. Doch da die schon genannten Folgen sowie die restlichen Episoden das alles wieder wett machen, ist die sechste Staffel durchaus noch als gut zu bezeichnen – und dank Biogenesis ist man voller Vorfreude auf den siebten Abschnitt der Geschichte…

Dia 10 de setembro de 1993 estreou uma séria estranha, no pior horário da FOX, que tratava de um assunto um tanto quanto bizarro. Pois é gente, há muito tempo sou fã de Arquivo X, aquela famosa série dos anos 90 de dois agentes do FBI que correm atrás de ets buscam a verdade sobre a existência de extraterrestres e fenômenos paranormais.

Esse aí é o Fox Mulder, ele acredita que sua irmã Samantha foi abduzida quando eles eram crianças e cresceu com esse vazio, sempre procurando pela irmã desaparecida. Estudou psicologia em Oxford e foi recrutado pelo FBI para trabalhar na sessão de crimes violentos, até que descobriu no porão do J. Edgar Hoover os Arquivos X, crimes que nunca foram solucionados pois eram de caráter fantastico, sobrenatural. Resultado? O homem endoideceu, reabriu os Arquivos X e criou discórdia no FBI. TENSO.

Daí os chefes começaram a pegar corda com essa história de et, e resolveram chamar uma outra agente para ser a parceira de Mulder. Uma que fosse cética e levasse a ciência muito à sério pra escutar as maluquices do outro agente. Dana Scully deixou pra trás uma carreira promissora em medicina para ser agente do FBI. Foi designada, primeiramente, para desbancar o trabalho de Mulder, mas isso não aconteceu, e a “parceria” (já que sou shipper, pra mim não é só amizade NUNCA) rendeu 9 temporadas, 202 episódios, 2 filmes, mais de 20 milhões de espectadores por noite, ganhou 26 prêmios, muitas ruivas a mais no mundo, muita gente querendo ser agente do FBI, pessoas abduzidas, e a minha infância/adolescência.

Então vamos comemorar os 16 anos do episódio piloto!

Scully usando o que hoje em dia a gente chama de boyfriend jacket, e que na época deve ter sido um descuido do figurinista colocar uma babe Gillian Anderson de 24 anos num paletó que ele deve ter pedido emprestado para um senhor alto de 75 anos. O fato é que a moda dos anos 90 era um tanto quanto paranormal. Ainda mais para agentes mulheres do FBI. Elas pareciam aquelas secretárias dos anos 90, de óculos redondo, tentando passar seriedade e não sendo na-da femininas.

Como todo mundo sabe – e eu falei no post aí embaixo sobre o Marc Jacobs – os anos 90 foram marcados pela influência, na moda e na música, do grunge. Com AX não foi diferente. Como não havia espaço para os agentes escutarem Nirvana e vestirem aquela camisa de flanela, os casos envolviam adolescentes, jovens, grunges, e até mesmo o Dave Grohl!

Dave era tão fã de AX que pediu para ser figurante e Chris Carter (a.k.a CC/O Surfista Prateado) deixou ele fazer uma ponta no episódio Pusher, um clássico da 3a temporada. E também o Foo Fighters regravou a música Walking After You (uma das minhas favoritas) especialmente para os créditos do primeiro filme, o Fight the Future, lançado em 1998 entre a quinta e a sexta temporada.

Editorii Descoperă.ro se întreabă dacă fotografia publicată pe site-ul lor reprezintă dovada existenţei OZN-urilor.  Le răspund: NU! Aceasta de mai jos este. Punctul violaceu poate trece uşor drept OZN, norul de aceeaşi culoare indicând direcţia  de deplasare spre stânga. OZN-ul a fost surprins la Sinaia.

UPDATE: punctul violaceu este un simplu efect optic, nu un OZN. Comentariul de mai sus este un pamflet.

Consider că este mai rezonabilă credinţa în inexistenţa OZN-urilor decât cea în existenţa lor. Sau să extrapolez: nu cred în existenţa civilizaţiilor extraterestre, în mici omuleţi verzi sau în navetele lor spaţiale. Implicit consider teoreia panspermiei dirijate (care afirmă ca viaţa pe pământ a fost implantată de organisme inteligente de pe alte palnete) o teorie neplauzibilă care caută doar să evite problema imposibilitatăţii apariţiei vieţii din non-viaţă pe o altă planetă. Argumentele mele:
- nu există nicio dovadă concludentă a existenţei OZN-urilor
- există multe exemple în care aşa-numitele dovezi în favoarea existenţei OZNurilor au fost fraudate sau s-a descoperit că erau “opera” unor oameni (vezi artisticele cercuri din lanuri de grâu)
- s-ar părea că oamenii sunt capabili să proiecteze şi să construiască aeronave circulare (vezi aerodina lenticulară a lui Henri Coandă)
- analiza universului vizibil arată ca planeta Terra este o planetă privilegiată, fiind un loc special unde existenţa şi proliferarea vieţii sunt posibile. Există puţine locuri identificate în universul nostru care întrunesc condiţiile necesare vieţii. (vezi review Planeta privilegiată)
- chiar dacă am accepta ipoteza evoluţiei organice, există foarte puţin timp pentru apariţia vieţii inteligente
- argumentele fizicii teoretice din acest moment arată că nu este posibilă călătoria din universul nostru în alt univers.

Pentru cei dezamagiţi… sau care cred că fotografia este neconcludentă, le reamintesc motto-ul lui Mulder:

“Wenn wir das Unvorhersehbare nicht vorhersehen, das Unerwartete nicht erwarten, in einem Universum unendlicher Möglichkeiten, sind wir vielleicht eines Tages dem Frivolwollen von jemandem oder etwas ausgeliefert, dass man nicht programmieren, kategorisieren oder irgendwie zuordnen kann.”

Lang hat es gedauert. Sicherlich, aus beruflichen und privaten Gründen musste die eine oder andere Pause eingelegt werden, doch über 1,5 Jahre hat es letztendlich gedauert, um die komplette Serie und die beiden Filme noch einmal zu sichten. Gut, andere gucken sowas in einem Monat weg, aber: siehe erster Halbsatz im zweiten Satz. Eigentlich hätte ich mir das Ganze ja auch sparen können, soll doch der 2012 erscheinende dritte Kinofilm vielleicht ein Reboot werden, um “Nichtkenner der Serie nicht zu verschrecken” (via). Also, meine Meinung dazu sagen muss ich wohl nicht.

Aber, um beim Thema zu bleiben: Gelohnt hat es sich. Es ist zeitweise zu einem Ritual geworden, sich abends noch mal eben eine Folge anzuschauen, bevor man einschläft, bzw. ohne Mark Snows Titelthema im Kopf zu haben war an Schlaf gar nicht erst zu denken. Hinzu kommt ja, dass ich nach Sichtung der ersten acht Staffeln noch einmal systematisch sämtliche Verschwörungsfolgen eben dieser gesehen habe, bevor es dann an die komplette und erstmalige Sichtung der finalen neunten Staffel ging.

Das diese Serie ab 1993 so einen Mystery-Boom hervorrufen konnte, daran glaubte damals wahrscheinlich nicht mal ihr Schöpfer Chris Carter. Am direktesten abgekupfert hat wohl die Serie Dark Skies – Das Geheimnis um Majestic 12, dieser Serie war allerdings (leider) nicht der gleiche Erfolg beschert. Akte X ist es durch diese anhaltende Beliebtheit erstmals gelungen, obwohl die Serie noch im Fernsehen lief, einen Film fürs Kino zu produzieren, der das Geschehen dort fortführte und an den die nachfolgende Staffel nahtlos anknüpfen konnte.

SEASON 1

Die FBI Agentin Dana Scully wird Special Agent Fox Mulder an die Seite gestellt, der zwar einerseits ein hervorragender Profiler ist, seine Zeit allerdings mit den sogenannten “X-Akten” verbringt – ungelöste Fälle, die er gerne Mal mit paranormalen Ereignissen in Verbindung bringt. Sein Antrieb ist hierbei die angebliche Entführung seiner Schwester durch Außerirdische. Scullys Aufgabe soll es sein, Mulders Arbeit zu überwachen und durch ihre Kenntnisse als Ärztin wissenschaftlich zu widerlegen.

Das dies natürlich nicht immer so einfach ist, viel Konfliktpotenzial beinhaltet und nicht immer alles so ist wie es scheint, dass merkte man dieser Serie schnell an. Gerade die erste Folge Pilot zeigte, wohin die Reise ging: Mulders Suche nach seiner Schwester, Scullys Skepsis, der Krebskandidat, bei dem schon früh klar wurde, dass er irgendwie Teil einer Verschwörung sein muss und es gab sogar schon Experimente mit Implantaten (wenn auch komischerweise in der Nase). Und das war erst die Pilotfolge.

Besondere Mythologie-Highlights dieser ersten Staffel sind dabei mit Sicherheit die Folgen Fallen Angel, Ice und The Erlenmeyer Flask, in dem als kleiner Cliffhanger noch einmal Tacheles geredet wird (Experimente mit außerdirdischer DNA, die Schließung der X-Akten…). Und doch hält sich die Verschwörung in dieser ersten Staffel noch merklich zurück. Während grade zu Beginn der Staffel der Zuschauer in alles eingeweiht wird, so sind es doch die sogenannten “Monster of the Week“-Folgen mit ihrer jeweils abgeschlossenen Handlung, die einen Großteil der 24 Folgen ausmachen. Hierbei hervorzuheben ist vielleicht die mehr oder weniger Doppelfolge Squeeze bzw. Tooms, insbesondere aber Darkness Falls, welche zusammen mit Eve zu den besten Episoden der ersten Staffel gehört.

Insgesamt bot Season 1 sehr gute Unterhaltung und machte Appetit auf mehr. Akte X hob (und hebt sich noch) wohltuend von anderen Serien ab und machte süchtig nach Antworten, wie es seitdem nur Lost in den ersten beiden Staffeln geschafft hat.

SEASON 2

Die X-Akten sind geschlossen. Mulder und Scully wurden getrennt und arbeiten nun in verschiedenen Bereichen innerhalb des FBI. Doch Mulders Glaube ist stärker als die Regeln innerhalb der Behörde, und so begibt er sich gleich in der ersten Folge Little Green Men nach Puerto Rico, um neue Beweise für die Existenz Außerirdischer zu bekommen. Auch wenn diese Folge in meinen Augen nicht unbedingt der beste Einstieg in die zweite Staffel ist, so ist es doch nur der Auftakt, denn insgesamt ist Season 2 stärker als ihr Vorgänger. Neue Charaktere wie Mister X, der Alien-Kopfgeldjäger oder insbesondere Alex Krycek sorgen für Spannung, und Folgen wie Duane Barry, Ascension, Colony oder End Game halten die Verschwörung am Laufen. Und das waren jetzt noch nicht einmal alle Mythologie-Folgen dieser Staffel. Denn auch wenn die “Monster of the week”-Folgen deutlich in der Mehrheit sind, überschattet die Verschwörung (und die Qualität der dazugehörigen Folgen) alles, insbesondere natürlich auch aufgrund Scullys Entführung. Auch rückblickend ist diese Staffel für die Serie enorm wichtig, wird es doch noch den einen oder anderen Querverweis geben. Anasazi ist schließlich das grandiose Finale einer auch sonst sehr starken Staffel. Die Serie hat in allen Belangen deutlich zugelegt und man kann es kaum abwarten, der Verschwörung in der dritten Staffel auf den Grund zu gehen.

SEASON 3

Auf den Grund ging man der Verschwörung vielleicht noch nicht, aber mit den ersten beiden Folgen The Blessing Way und Paper Clip nahm die dritte Staffel gleich Fahrt auf. Die Geschichte um das hochbrisante Computerband zählt zu den besten innerhalb der Mythologie und wurde grandios in Szene gesetzt. Auch die Einbindung der indianischen Kultur vermochte durchaus zu gefallen. Gleichzeitg wächst die Geschichte mit dem Fund am Ende von Paper Clip um einiges an – man will jetzt ganz einfach hinter das Geheimnis kommen. Bis es jedoch weiter geht, muss man sich noch mit der ein oder anderen MotW-Episode begnügen, was aber auch in der dritten Staffel wahrlich kein schweres Los ist. Sei es die Folge D.P.O. mit Jack Black um einen menschlichen Blitzerzeuger oder das komödiantische Staffelhighlight War of the Coprophages, die X-Akten sind erwachsen geworden und zeigen, was sie drauf haben. Scullys Entführung ist auch weiterhin ein Thema und wird es natürlich auch in den zukünftigen Staffeln noch sein, auf die man dank Talitha Cumi dann auch sehr gespannt ist. Eine Ausweitung der Verschwörung, einfallsreiche und spannende Monster-of-the-Week-Episoden und ein spannendes Staffelfinale lassen die Serie auch in der dritten Staffel nichts von ihrem Reiz einbüßen.

Dies bedeutet – ohne große Überraschungen – für die ersten drei Staffeln einen guten Schnitt von 8,6/10 – nicht schlecht, aber noch zu toppen. Ob das von den folgenden Staffeln überboten wurde?

Unsurprisingly, The Doctor was the winner of our favorite alien poll! And he may be the most convincing evidence of alien life because it’s not to be found in Roswell, NM. You may find it surprising to note that the UFO Museum doesn’t have the academic rigor needed to be credible. It’s true.

Still, we were entertained by local anecdotes of alien sitings, ancient Mayan depictions of space travel, and findings of encounters of the first, second and third kind.

I want to believe, but if the truth is out there it had better manifest itself before we leave town. We’re back on the road in a few, heading towards Carlsbad Caverns.

Dias sem respostas do tatu. É quando enquanto começa a tocar a trilha de Arquivo X 2 que ela aparece. A senhora do tatu, incubida de tirar quantas fotos forem necessárias do animal em solo hostil. Fiquei sabendo que no Sea Wolrd, tatus que não se comportam são dados de comer á baleias famintas e nada amistosas.

Estranho foi a entrada triunfal dela no MSN enquanto começou a música, por isso, ouça a trilha sonora da Sra Tatu (ou do tatu, como preferir) no Messenger.

I finally completed the task of viewing the entire series run of The X-Files. I originally followed the first five seasons as the aired on tv, even seeing the pilot on the night of its premiere. I saw the first movie, Fight The Future, in the theatres, and then jumped ship and almost completely abandoned the show. I viewed the second movie, I Want To Believe, in theatres last summer, on opening day no less. Hence, I decided after an 11 year hiatus, I decided I wanted to finish off the series.  Now that I have, here is my take on each season:

Season 1 – I don’t remember a ton of the specifics of what happened in what order in each of the first five seasons, so I will just list my favorite episode from each of those seasons.

Favorite episode: Darkness Falls – Mulder and Scully investigate a missing group of loggers in a remote forest.

Season 2 -

Favorite episode: Humbug - the one with the carnival acts

Season 3 -

Favorite episode: War of the Coprophages - the one with the cochroaches

Season 4 -

Favorite episode: Gethsemane – the season 4 finale

Season 5 -

Favorite episode: The Post-Modern Prometheus - their modernized tale of Frankenstein’s monster

Season 6 – featured a ridiculously awesome mix of episodes focused on the mytharc of the show and “monster of the week” episodes. The run of episodes to start the season is some of their best. The Beginning picks up where the Fight the Future movie left off and answers some of the questions left unanswered by the first movie. It is followed by Drive, Triangle (an omage to Hitchcock’s Rope), the two part Dreamland (featuring Michael McKean and the Marx Brothers mirror gag), and How the Ghosts Stole Christmas (featuring Ed Asner and Lily Tomlin).  Overall the season seemed to keep up the quality I remember from the first five seasons.

Favorite episode: Triangle

Season 7 – other than a few mytharc related episodes, it became quite light-hearted. Almost as if the writers got tired over drama and decided it would be more fun to be writing comedy. But it was totally enjoyable.

Favorite episode: X-Cops – the COPS themed episode complete with an alternative opening sequence

Season 8 – Mulder is missing from most of the episodes, replaced by Agent Doggett (Robert Patrick, the evil liquid metal terminator from Terminator 2: Judgement Day). The show certainly suffers from the change and loss of Mulder/Scully chemistry. Although I did enjoy the plethora of Terminator references, including the Terminator themed episode, Salvage.

Favorite episode: Vienen - Mulder and Doggett investigate deaths on an oil rig, and the chemistry between them works. So, maybe the problem with this season was Scully/Doggett was just a poor pairing.

Season 9 – Mulder is completely gone until the series finale. As a result, some of these episodes were a bit of a chore to get through, especially the first 11 episodes which all focused on the show’s mythology. I did end up enjoying the series finale quite a bit, due to its focus on clarifying the whole government/alien conspiracy of the show’s mythology.

Favorite episode: Sunshine Days – The Brady Bunch themed episode that also features Benjamin Linus from Lost and Bud Bundy.

X-Files: I Want to Believe - the second movie, which picks up six years after the series ends. It is essentially a “monster of the week” episode in movie form. The story itself worked for me. Mulder’s mountain man beard at the beginning was a great touch. It features some excellent cinematography filled with brilliant snow-filled backdrops. Billy Connolly puts forth a tremendous perfomance. Unfortunaly, the same can’t be said for Amanda Peete and Xzibit.

In conclusion, this is one of my top 10 favorite television shows of all-time. The first seven seasons are all quite high quality in their own regards. It’s worth it to plow through the final two seasons if only to conclude the mytharc of the show, which although quite complex and confusing at times, is still intriguing and makes more sense than Lost probably will when all of its secrets finally get revealed. And the X-Files managed to do something that I don’t know any other show has done – have an overarcing mythology storyline that runs the course of the series, while completely abandoned that storyline for episodes at a time to do self-contained one-off episodes. The truth was out there.

A papi & friends gli X-files sono sempre piaciuti (vedi qui, qui, qui, e si potrebbe continuare). Insomma, raccogliere fascicoli per diletto, mettere in giro voci, magari fare ricattucci, pilotare la stampa e altro ancora. Un giochetto per bravi ragazzi pii e idealisti, giusto per riempire le lunghe ore di noia del servizio di Stato, che ha dato origine ad una vicenda lestamente insabbiata, finita sulle prime pagine solo di pochi sparuti periodici di analisi politica di provincia.

E il comma 22? C’entra perché il papi patriæ sta dicendo che impedirà quello che lui chiama “tentativo di golpe giudiziario come nel ‘94″ o qualche delirio del genere. Quindi il comma 22 diventa (ricordando l’art. 96 della Costituzione):

• il Presidente del Consiglio può essere giudicato e punito, come ogni altro cittadino

• il tentativo di giudicare il Presidente del consiglio è un evidente atto di sovversione

E per soprammercato ci hanno piazzato sopra anche l’immunità per legge anticostituzionale…

Quindi, anche senza mettersi a fare i sanculotti forcaioli, direi che a questo punto, pur avendo a che fare con una solida e ben sclerotizzata realtà,  siamo nel dominio della fantascienza.

Ma perché le foto di avvistamenti sono sempre così poco nitide e inverosimili?...

Pense nas dez séries mais premiadas da história do Globo de Ouro. Arriscaria um palpite? Seinfeld? Six Feet Under? Com certeza não. Arquivo X? Sopranos? Sim, sim, talvez. M*A*S*H? Definitivamente!

Pesquisando os prêmios do Globo de Ouro, imaginem minha surpresa ao descobrir que M*A*S*H, com nada menos do que oito estatuetas, encabeça ao lado de Sex and the City e All in the Family (!), a lista das séries mais vencedoras da premiação que incluem programas para lá de bizarros como, por exemplo, o The Carol Burnett Show. Oito estatuetas pode parecer pouco para as três séries mais vitoriosas do Globo de Ouro, mas se pensarmos que a premiação tem bem menos categorias para televisão do que o Emmy e que em algumas categorias ainda concorre junto com o cinema (como os coadjuvantes), oito acaba se tornando um bom número.

O Globo de Ouro é uma premiação norte-americana criada em 1944 que visa premiar os melhores filmes e os melhores programas de televisão do ano. Não é a toa que é considerado uma prévia do Oscar: a audiência e sua tradição perdem apenas para a festinha dos tios da Academia e para o Grammy, respectivamente. A premiação, que tradicionalmente acontece no começo de todo ano, é baseada quase que por completo, nos votos de mais de 80 veículos jornalísticos de Hollywood.

Apesar do primeiro Globo de Ouro ter sido em 1943 e ter ido parar nos estúdios da 20th Century Fox, foram apenas 12 anos depois, em 1956, que surgiram na cerimônia os prêmios para os melhores da televisão. Porém, a coisa era ainda um pouco confusa, com prêmios diferentes a cada ano, sem um padrão ano após anos. Apenas em 1970, foi estabelecido o conceito que conhecemos hoje, o de Melhor Drama, Comédia/Musical, Ator, Atriz, Ator e Atriz coadjuvante. Ou seja, pode-se dizer que a história do Globo de Ouro para os aficionados por televisão tem apenas 39 anos.

Partindo desse princípio, criei uma lista com as dez séries mais vitoriosas de todos os tempos (que na verdade são 11 – calma aí que já explico) na categoria televisão. Saiba qual foi a primeira série a ganhar o prêmio, qual série mais ganhou, com quem ela concorria, quais eram as expectativas e muito mais!

Sopranos, Arquivo X, L.A. Law, Dinastia, Alice e The Carol Burnett Show

Em último lugar, com cinco votos para cada, temos seis séries. Com isso, o TOP 10 acaba virando TOP 11, pois acima dessas seis, empatadas, temos cinco séries com mais do que cinco estatuetas.

De todas as dez séries, a primeira a ganhar o prêmio de melhor série (no caso programa) foi The Carol Burnett Show, em 1971, humorístico ao vivo – diferente da maioria dos programas da época que eram pré-gravados) apresentado por Carol Burnett, Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence e Lyle Waggoner que levou ao ar originalmente na CBS 278 episódios entre 1967 a 1978.

O programa, longe de revolucionário, era até bem bacana e apresentou alguns quadros inesquecíveis como “Went with the Wind”, paródia de “E O Vento Levou” onde Burnett representava Scarlett O’Hara.

A série original acabou tendo outras versões caça-níqueis como “Carol Burnett and Friends” e “Carol & Company”, duas tentativas frustradas por parte da CBS e NBC, respectivamente, de repetir o sucesso do original. Em 1991, a CBS ainda tentou fazer um revival do programa, trazendo-o de volta para uma nova temporada. Resultado? Fracasso absoluto e apenas nove episódios exibidos.

Em seu auge, The Carol Burnett Show, que chegou a ter participações muito especiais como as de Shirley MacLaine, Liza Minelli, Cher e Vincent Price, era difícil de ser batida. Com cinco Globo de Ouro debaixo do braço, ganhou consecutivamente o prêmio de melhor atriz de comédia em 77 e 78 e também consecutivamente o prêmio de melhor ator coadjuvante 75 e 76.

Apesar dos cinco prêmios na bagagem, a estatueta de Melhor Série de Comédia foi levada pelos comediantes apenas em 1971, mesmo ano em que a série Missão: Impossível estrelada por Martin Landau sagrava-se vitoriosa em Melhor Drama.

Alice

Exibida pela primeira vez em 1976, Alice foi uma sitcom de grande sucesso. Estrelado por Linda Lavin no papel-título e exibida pela CBS, era baseada no filme vencedor do Oscar de Melhor Atriz, Alice Não Mora Mais Aqui, de 1974.

Alice contava a historia de uma mulher que após a perda de seu marido, resolve sair de New Jersey com seu filho e viajar de carro para Los Angeles, na esperança de se tornar uma cantora de sucesso. Com o carro quebrado em Phoenix e sem dinheiro para o conserto, Alice arruma um emprego como garçonete na lanchonete Mel’s Diner e de lá só sairia novamente em 2 de julho de 1985, quando foi ao ar o último episódio da série.

Mesmo com a forte concorrência da antológica série Taxi, que venceu o Globo de Ouro três vezes consecutivas de 1979 a 1981 na categoria Melhor Série de Comédia, Alice não se intimidou, “roubou” metade do Globo de Ouro de 1980, quando ao lado da série de Andy Kaufman, também consagrou-se vencedora na categoria Melhor Comédia.

No ano anterior, 1979, apesar de Taxi ter faturado o prêmio de melhor série, foi Alice quem faturou o de melhor atriz e melhor atriz coadjuvante. No primeiro prêmio, Linda Lavin desbancou a própria Carol Barnett, favorita naquele ano. Já na segunda estatueta, Polly Holliday, que concorria por sua popular personagem Flo em Alice, desbancou Marilu Henner, uma das protagonistas de Taxi.

Voltando para 1980, a história parecia fadada a se repetir. Na categoria de Melhor Série, que Taxi ganhava pela segunda vez consecutiva, também concorriam entre outras, Alice e M*A*S*H. Mas se Taxi desbancou M*A*S*H, Alice desbancou Taxi. E novamente nas categorias de Melhor Atriz e Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante. Dessa vez, o páreo de Linda Lavin era acirrado: de um lado, Jean Stapleton, protagonista de All in the Family, do outro, Loretta Swit, a major Margaret Houlihan de M*A*S*H. Já na categoria coadjuvante, novamente Polly Holliday contra Marilu Henner. E novamente deu Holliday.

Dynasty

Um dos maiores equívocos da televisão é a soap opera (mais novela do que seriado – vide Desperate Housewives) Dinastia, famosa por seus cliffhangers e erros de continuidade.

Exibida pela ABC de 1981 a 1989, Dinastia tinha seus conflitos em torno de duas famílias de Denver, Colorado que se odiavam: Carringtons e Colbys.

A primeira temporada teve audiência consistente, mas foi apenas no segundo ano da série, mais especificamente em sua season premiere, que Dinasty decolou, abrindo com o episódio “Enter Alexis”, um clássico, onde o personagem misterioso da primeira temporada retirava seus óculos escuros revelando a atriz inglesa Joan Collins (muito Ugly Betty, isso).

Alguns episódios depois a série já estava no topo da audiência figurando sempre no Top 20 da Nielsen. Em 1985, na quinta temporada, alcançou o apogeu conquistando o primeiro lugar na audiência e ganhando convidados para lá de luxuosos como o ex-presidente americano Gerald Ford – também não é para tanto, nos EUA tudo quanto é político participa de seriado. Mas na mesma velocidade em que os números subiram, eles declinaram: com o revival de comédias que se estabelecia na época (Cosby Show, Cheers etc.) Dynastia acabou perdendo o primeiro lugar para nunca mais voltar ao topo.

Apesar de todos os altos e baixos, a série teve uma carreira de sucesso nos Globo de Ouro. Levou cinco estatuetas para casa, incluindo a de Melhor Série de Drama em 1984, quando bateu a concorrência de Hill Street Blues – vencedora nos dois anos anteriores. O grande feito da novelinha talvez tenha sido conquistar estatuetas em três anos seguidos – 1982-1984. Em 82, Linda Evans deu o primeiro troféu da premiação ao programa ao vencer o prêmio de Melhor Atriz em Drama empatada com Barbara Bel Geddes, sua concorrente direta em Dallas. 1983, era uma incógnita: com grandes séries como M*A*S*H, Hill Street Blues, Dallas, Magnum, Cheers e Fame na disputa, Dynastia saiu no lucro ao levar para casa duas estatuetas: as de melhor ator e atriz de drama para John Forsythe e Joan Collins, respectivamente.

Em 1984, além do prêmio de Melhor Drama do ano, John Forsythe viria a ser coroado novamente como melhor ator do ano em drama.

Sua grande contribuição para a TV foi o surgimento de um personagem gay – que tinha até amante – em uma trama noturna de grande audiência, fazendo com que as pessoas olhassem para a situação dos gays em plena era da AIDS.

L.A. Law

Criada por Steven Bochco, criador de Nova York Contra o Crime (NYPD Blue), L.A. Law pode ser considerada a mãe das séries de tribunal e sem dúvida, dá um show em qualquer criação de David E. Kelley, que participou aqui como escritor e produtor executivo e alcançou a glória com Emmys de Melhor Roteiro em 1990 e 91.

Vencedora de cinco estatuetas do Globo de Ouro, a série teve uma longa duração de nove temporadas e é considerada até hoje uma das séries mais populares do final da década de 80, início da de 90.

Mostrando o dia-a-dia de uma firma de direito de Los Angeles, a série deu bastante sorte em 87 e 88 quando venceu consecutivamente o prêmio de Melhor Drama do ano barrando concorrentes como Murder, She Wrote, drama/suspense que havia vencido também consecutivamente o prêmio de melhor série de drama nos dois anos anteriores.

Ainda no ano de 1988, talvez na maior zebra daquele ano, L.A. Law consagrou a atriz Susan Dey, vencedora do prêmio de Melhor Atriz de Drama, batendo a favorita da noite, Angela Lansbury (de Murder, She Wrote). Já em 1989, a historia se fadava a repetir e Jill Eikenberry acaba saindo-se a grande vencedora da noite na mesma categoria, batendo de novo Lansbury.

1990 e 1991 foram os grandes anos de Cheers e Twin Peaks e L.A. Law acabou saindo um pouco dos holofotes. Apenas em 1992 a série retornou como favorita em alguma indicação: Amanda Donohoe levou a estatueta de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante, derrotando as protagonistas de The Golden Girls e Cheers.

L.A. Law durou até 1994 e acumulou diversos prêmios em sua bagagem, incluindo três Emmys consecutivos de Melhor Série de Drama entre 1989 e 1991.

Quem já viu L.A. Law sabe que David E. Kelley vem copiando pequenas coisas da série em todas as séries.

Arquivo X

Arquivo X, uma das grandes séries de todos os tempos, é uma criação de Chris Carter e foi ao ar pela primeira vez em setembro de 1993. O seriado é considerado um dos primeiros hits da Fox americana e ficou famoso por emplacar slogans mundialmente famosos na cultura pop como “The Truth Is Out There”, “Trust No One”, “Deny Everything” e “I Want to Believe”, como Heroes hoje em dia com o seu precoce “Save the cheerleader, save the world!”.

A série rodava em torno da vida dos agentes Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) e Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), responsáveis pelas investigações dos chamados “arquivos x”, arquivos marginalizados pelo FBI devido a seu conteúdo paranormal. Duchovny fazia o papel do agente de mente aberta enquanto a personagem de Anderson havia sido originalmente transferida para o departamento para investigar as ações do trabalho inconvencional de Mulder. Apenas originalmente, pois mais tarde eles acabam virando parceiros, amigos e, bem… marido e mulher.

O auge da série foi no meio dos anos 90 e depois de cinco temporadas a série ainda gerou um filme de sucesso (“Arquivo X: O Filme”) para depois encerrar com mais quatro temporadas e um outro filme: “Arquivo X: I Want to Believe”. Nas duas últimas temporadas, a série teve um significante declínio, principalmente pelo esgotamento criativo dos roteiristas que não sabiam mais onde levar aquelas personagens e pela vontade de Duchovny de sair da série para se dedicar a sua carreira no cinema.

Na época de seu episodio final, em maio de 2002, Arquivo X era em toda a história, a série de ficção cientifica a mais tempo no ar (nove temporadas e 201 episódios) mas eventualmente perdeu o posto para Stargate SG-1. É considerada pelo TV Guide como a série de maior culto de todos os tempos, atrás apenas da franquia Star Trek. Estamos falando de um culto americano, pois mundialmente falando, perderia para Dr. Who e O Prisioneiro.

A carreira de Arquivo X no Globo de Ouro teve quatro anos de duração, sendo que em três, sendo eles 1995, 97 e 98, a série saiu-se vitoriosa na categoria Melhor Série de Drama. Em 95, a concorrência não era lá essas coisas e a série só teve que passar por cima de ER.

Em 97, houve a grande consagração da série, que levou para a Fox os três mais importantes prêmios da noite. Na categoria de melhor drama, 95 se repetiu, só que aqui a disputa foi mais apertada, mas não com ER e sim com Party Of Five que havia vencido na categoria no ano anterior. Em Melhor Ator, Duchovny passou de bom ator para grande celebridade do ano ao vencer ninguém menos do que George Clooney que concorria por ER. Interessante aqui, é que quem também concorria na categoria, era Lance Henriksen, protagonista de Millennium, série também criada por Carter. Já em Melhor Atriz, Gillian superou a incrível Christine Lahti que começava a se destacar por seu papel em Chicago Hope. Um dia inesquecível para qualquer “excer”.

O final ainda estava longe, assim como seu declínio, mas 98 chegou e foi o último ano que ganhou alguma coisa na premiação. Sem os prêmios de Melhor Ator e Atriz, parecia que Arquivo X sairia com as mãos abanando, já que dessa vez era a série que corria por fora no prêmio de Melhor Drama enquanto ER e Law & Order disputavam os holofotes. Doce engano. Somava ali, sua quinta e última estatueta na premiação.

The Sopranos

Uma das séries mais importantes dos últimos anos The Sopranos é ambientada na terrível New Jersey. O seriado mostra o dia-a-dia de Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini), ítalo-americano que tem como desafio comandar duas famílias. De um lado, sua mulher, seu filho e sua filha. Do outro, a máfia. Grande marco da HBO ao lado de Six Feet Under, a série estreou no final da década de 1990 para no ano seguinte já conquistar quatro estatuetas do Globo de Ouro.

Desde que foi ao ar em 1999, o seriado se tornou um fenômeno cultural ganhando popularidade pelo mundo ao mostrar com exatidão a comunidade ítalo-americana, os efeitos da violência e a tênue linha que divide o certo e o errado na sociedade.

Além da notável habilidade de atuação por parte do elenco, alguns atores também se destacam por um lado mais negativo: o de quando a vida imita a arte. Como exemplo, o ator Robert Iler, que da vida a Anthony Jr., que em 2001, foi preso por assaltar à mão armada dois turistas brasileiros. O ator foi condenado a quinze anos de prisão, mas por ser menor de idade e ter alegado culpa, ganhou uma condicional de três anos.

Sopranos começou com o pé direito no Globo de Ouro. Em 2000, levou para casa os principais prêmios da cerimônia: Melhor Drama, Melhor Ator de Drama e Melhor Atriz de Drama, sem falar no prêmio de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante. Sem dúvida a maior concorrente da série no ano, era a premiada The West Wing, porém, o prêmio ficou mesmo com James Gandolfini.

Na categoria feminina parecia certo que o prêmio iria para Sopranos. A verdadeira questão, era para quem: Edie Falco ou Lorraine Bracco, que interpretavam Carmela Soprano e Dra. Jennifer Melfi, respectivamente. No fim, melhor para Falco. Ainda em 2000, o show levou outra estatueta: a de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvamente, pelo brilhante papel de Livia Soprano, mãe de Tony, interpretado pela incrível Nancy Marchand.

Com os anos seguintes monopolizados por The West Wing e Six Feet Under, Sopranos acabou levando apenas mais uma estatueta: Melhor Atriz em Drama, de novo para Falco, em 2003, derrotando nomes como Jennifer Garner e Rachel Griffiths.

Cheers

Cheers estreou na NBC em 1982 e tinha como ponto de partida um bar de Boston onde um grupo de pessoas se reunia para beber e se divertir. Quase cancelado ainda em sua primeira temporada devido a péssima audiência, os produtores apostaram um pouco mais e Cheers acabou durando 11 temporadas e 273 episódios.

Vencedora de 26 Emmys, a série teve uma bela carreira no Globo de Ouro, sendo a quarta maior vencedora da história da premiação, e responsável pela consagração de Kelsey Grammer que interpretava a personagem Frasier, que eventualmente ganhou seu próprio show. Frasier também teve passagem pelo Globo de Ouro com dois prêmios para o próprio Grammer na categoria Melhor Ator em Comédia.

Os anos dourados de Cheers foram 1990 e 1991. Porém, foi em 1983 que a série ganhou pela primeira vez. Concorrendo com nomes de peso como Loretta Swit de M*A*S*H, Shelley Long não era favorita por ser o primeiro ano de Cheers no evento, mas a zebra rolou e Long venceu, dando a Cheers não apenas sua primeira estatueta no Globo de Ouro, mas a primeira na historia do seriado em premiações.

Em 1985, a série levou um prêmio mais importante: o de Melhor Atriz de Comédia. O engraçado aqui, é que novamente a vencedora foi Shelley Long, já que os produtores resolveram apostar e indicá-la como Melhor Atriz, uma vez que sua personagem havia crescido consideravelmente de importância durante os anos.

Depois de um longo sumiço, em 1990 a série voltou a figurar entre as vencedoras ao levar o prêmio de Melhor Ator em Comédia, faturado por Tad Danson que desbancou o grande favorito da noite, o grandalhão John Goodman, que concorria por Roseanne.

Sem dúvida, 91 foi o grande ano para Cheers no Globo de Ouro que faturou a tríplice coroa: Melhor Série, Ator e Atriz de Comédia. Na categoria de melhor ator, Danson novamente superou Goodman (e Burt Reynolds!) e levou a melhor. Já em Melhor Atriz, a vencedora foi Kirstie Alley por Cheers, ela mesma, de Fat Actress e Veronica’s Closet.

Murder, She Wrote

Apesar de ter sido um sucesso em sua época, vencedora de seis Globo de Ouro, série de suspense de maior longevidade da história, e ter tido doze temporadas, Murder, She Wrote sempre foi renegada pela crítica.

Murder, She Wrote era assim: uma série de suspense sobre Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury), famosa escritora de romances policiais que sempre, e por sempre eu digo SEMPRE, esbarrava com assassinatos em todos os lugares que ia. A polícia então começava a investigar, sem muito êxito culpando alguém qualquer, e Jessica não satisfeita com a resolução, dava uma de detetive e resolvia o crime sozinha.

Não me levem a mal, a série era sim muito boa, mas doze temporadas, ou 263 episódios é dose.

Claro que sempre rolava aquele negócio da polícia vir e mandar Jessica largar o caso por não fazia parte das investigações, mas a escritora, acabava conseguindo uma vaga de perita por ter algum fã de seus livros dentro da polícia.

Iniciada em 1984 na CBS, Murder, She Wrote foi sucesso absoluto de público, porém, ao longo de suas temporadas, foi declinando na audiência pelo esgotamento criativo dos roteiristas que até tentaram dar uma nova guinada na série mudando Jessica para Nova York, mas era tarde demais: Em 1994 estreava Friends na televisão e por dois anos “Murder” teve que concorrer diretamente com a comédia. Os índices começaram a despencar até que eventualmente, em 1996, o show deu seu adeus definitivo.

A carreira da série no Globo de Ouro começou em 1985 quando levou os prêmios de Melhor Drama do Ano (derrotando as favoritas Dinastia e Hill Street Blues) e Melhor Atriz de Drama para Lansbury. Em 86, novamente a série fatura o prêmio, dessa vez, deixando para trás Miami Vice e Dinastia entre outras.

Em 1987, 90 e 92, Lansbury novamente ganhava o prêmio de Melhor Atriz de Drama consolidando-se como uma das grandes atrizes da televisão do final dos anos 90. Suas principais concorrentes em cada ano foram John Collins de Dinastia, Susan Dey e Jill Eikenberry por L.A. Law e Dey novamente por L.A Law, respectivamente.

Ao longo de Murder, She Wrote, diversos rostos conhecidos do grande público passaram pela série, dando ao público oportunidade de rever seus atores favoritos da infância e adolescência.

Sex and the City

Sex and the City, também conhecida como “a série que todo mundo já viu no Brasil”, estreou em 1998 e teve seis temporadas, terminando em 2004.

Mostrando a vida de Nova York através dos olhos de Carrie Bradshaw, colunista de sexo de um jornal da capital, a série foi um enorme sucesso no mundo todo e foi uma das mais revolucionárias e divisoras de águas da televisão, ao falar tão abertamente sobre sexo. Algo que claro, só a HBO trazia na época (hoje em dia temos outras como FX, AMC e Showtime).

A série, baseada no livro homônimo de Candace Bushnell, focava a vida de quatro melhores amigas de trinta e poucos anos e suas desventuras com os homens, o sexo e a noite nova-iorquina regada a muitos cosmopolitans.

Por ter sido um verdadeiro marco da televisão, foi um arrasa quarteirão no Globo de Ouro: nomeada 24 vezes a premiação e levou nada menos do que oito estatuetas. Em 2000, 2001 e 2002 não teve para ninguém e o programa faturou consecutivamente o prêmio de Melhor Comédia do ano. Na categoria de Melhor Atriz de Comédia, mesma coisa: Sarah Jessica Parker faturou três vezes consecutivas. Durante os três anos, a atriz teve como grande concorrência Calista Flockhart por Ally McBeal e Debra Messing por Will & Grace. Já a série, teve como concorrentes favoritas, Ally McBeal, Will & Grace e Spin City (vencedora do prêmio de 98 a 2000 e em 2001).

Em 2003 e 2004 a série saiu da premiação com um prêmio em cada ano. No primeiro, o de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante para Kim Cattrall, dona do papel de Samantha, personagem inesquecível na mente de qualquer marmanjo. Em 2004, novamente o de Melhor Atriz de Comédia para Sarah Jessica Parker, tornando-a a maior vencedora da categoria na história da premiação.

All in the Family

Voltemos para 1971, um ano após a revolução do formato do Globo de Ouro. A série All in the Family, clássico da televisão, foi vencedora de também oito estatuetas e foi ao ar pela primeira vez em 12 de janeiro de 1971 na CBS.

Baseada na série britânica Til Death Us Do Part, era protagonisada por Jean Stapleton e foi revolucionário em seu tempo por abordar verdadeiros tabus da sociedade como racismo, homossexualismo, liberdade da mulher, estupro, câncer e impotência.

Em 2002, buscando as 50 melhores séries, o TV Guide apontou All in the Family como o quarto melhor programa de todos os tempos e apontou Archie Bunker, personagem da série, como melhor personagem de todos os tempos. Por falar em Archie Bunker, em 1979, a série foi reformulada e simplesmente mudou de nome (!) para Archie Bunker’s Place. Quatro anos se passaram até que foi finalmente cancelada em 1983.

Os oito prêmios aconteceram entre 1972 e 1978, sendo quatro para Melhor Série de Comédia (72-74 e 1978), dois para Melhor Atriz de Comédia (1973 e 1974), um para Melhor Ator de Comédia (1972) e um para Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante (1975).

Em Melhor Comédia, não teve dificuldades para vencer três anos consecutivos. Suas maiores concorrentes foram The Carol Burnett Show e M*A*S*H. Em Melhor Atriz, a concorrência foi mais apertada. Em 1973, Jean Stapleton teve que passar por cima de Carol Burnett e Julie Andrews (ela mesma!). Em 1974, de novo Carol Burnett, e Cher! Na categoria de Melhor Ator, de volta a 1972, Carroll O’Conner não teve dificuldades para sair-se vencedor, porém, passando pelo talentosíssimo Dick Van Dyke.

Em 1975, a série ganhava seu sétimo prêmio: o de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante para Betty Garrett que concorreu com Vicki Lawrence de The Carol Burnett Show, entre outros. Por fim, o último prêmio da série no Globo de Ouro: o quarto de Melhor Comédia, em 1978. A concorrência no ano não era tão forte: apenas The Carol Burnett Show já em descenso. Sua verdadeira oponente naquela noite era Happy Days, que faturou o prêmio duplo de Melhor Ator de Comédia para Henry Winkler e Ron Howard (sim, ele mesmo, que como diretor, era um ótimo ator…).

No Brasil, All in the Family foi exibida por apenas um ano, com o título de Tudo em Família. Depois, foi retirada do ar pela censura.

M*A*S*H

Criada por Larry Gelbart em 1972, a série era inspirada no livro Catch-22 e baseada no filme de mesmo nome dirigido por Richard Hooker em 1970.

Foi através de M*A*S*H que surgiu o termo “dramédia”, devido ao seu conteúdo parte drama, parte comédia, sem uma linha de segmentação fixa. O programa, produzido pela 20th Century Fox para a CBS, acompanhava um time de médicos e seus funcionários em um hospital de Uijeongbu, durante a Guerra da Coréia. Apesar da sinopse, é visível que a série tinha como verdadeira inspiração, a Guerra do Vietnã.

M*A*S*H não foi inesquecível apenas por seus oito Globo de Ouro, mas também por ter tido a series finale de maior audiência da historia da televisão mundial. A “dramédia” teve 251 episódios e durou onze temporadas, cobrindo um período de três anos de guerra.

A história de M*A*S*H no Globo de Ouro começou em 1974, quando McLean Stevenson levou o prêmio de Melhor Ator Coadjuvante em Comédia. Em 1975 e 1976, Alan Alda levou o prêmio consecutivamente ao derrotar nomes de peso como Carroll O’Connor e Johnny Carson. De 1977 a 1979, Alda continuou concorrendo, mas sem nenhuma vitória. Os anos dourados estavam por vir: Em uma incrível sucessão de prêmios, Alda levou a estatueta de Melhor Ator em Comédia em quatro anos consecutivos: de 1980 a 1983, sendo que em 82, M*A*S*H ainda consagrou-se como Melhor Série de comédia do ano.

M*A*S*H foi a primeira série da história da exibir um episódio com a narrativa em tempo real. Escrito por Alan Alda, em 1978, o roteiro mostrava médicos realizando uma cirurgia em 20 minutos. No canto inferior da tela, um relógico cronometrava tudo.
