Da war ich gestern schon begeistert von der SlimControl Version 0.92. Heute steht schon die neueste Version 0.94 zum Download bereit.

Das beste daran: Jetzt kann man auch die WebRadio-Funktion vom SqueezeCenter bedienen.
Nach einem ersten Eindruck würde ich auch sagen, dass SlimControl auch etwas schneller geworden ist.

Das einzige was fehlt: Eine deutschsprachige Anleitung zu all den vielen Funktionen.

Über die einfache Möglichkeit seine Logitech-Komponenten SqueezeBox Boom, Classic oder Duet mittels Internet Explorer mit dem Samsung i900 Omnia zu steuern habe ich bereits berichtet.

Danke eines Forumeintrags bei Handy-FAQ bin ich auf eine interessante Software gestoßen. SlimControl von Sci@tec.de heißt die Lösung für viele Handy- und PDA-Nutzer.

SlimControl - Eintritt

Hut ab vor solch Enthusiasten, die in ihrer Freizeit Freeware für so populäre OpenSource-Programme wie das SqueezeCenter entwickeln.

So einfach war die Bedienung des SqueezeCenter noch nie. Die Steuerung über den Internet-Explorer ist im Vergleich dazu fast schon antiquiert. Die grafische Oberfläche erinnert ein wenig an den iPod. Große “Tasten”  und eine einfache Bedienerführung erfordern eine kurze Eingewöhnungsphase.

Hier stehen meine ersten Eindrücke nach knapp einer Stunde Musikgenuss und Musiksteuerung mit dem SlimControl.

Die Installation ist ganz easy. Einfach die Software (am besten als cab-Datein) aufs Handy downloaden und das Programm im internen Speicher installieren. Danach würde ich einen Softreset das i900 Omnia empfehlen. Bei mir war´s wohl der Schlüssel zum Erfolg des nächsten Schrittes. Wichtig ist nämlich die Registrierung von SlimControl. Keine Angst, es kostet wirklich nichts. Der Autor will wohl so einfach den Überblick über die installierten Versionen behalten. Also einfach PDA-Typ, Betriebssystem und Seriennummer der installierten Software eintragen und über das automatisch öffnende Email-Fenster abschicken. Der Registriegungsschlüssel kommt prompt.

Seit ein paar Tagen gibt es ein offizielles Upgrade für das Samsung i900 Omnia.

Mit T-Mobile als Provider war bisher die Version AKHJ1 aktuell.
Derzeit steht Version AKIC1 zum Download zur Verfügung.

Vor eine Upgrade ist die Datensicherung ganz wichtig!!!
Eine Kurzanleitung habe ich hier schon mal verfasst. Sie behandelt aber nur das alte Upgrade auf AKHJ1. Die Vorgehensweise ist jedoch immer gleich.

Im Handy-Forum gibt es zur Zeit geteilte Meinungen zum neuen Upgrade. Also vor dem Upgrade einfach mal ein bisschen schmökern.

Es ist immer wieder interessant, meine Blogstatistik auszuwerten.

Da ich heute abend wieder mal im Hotel verbringe, versuche ich einfach mal, ein paar Suchfragen zu beantworten. Vielleicht entwickelt sich daraus eine Art Omnia-Wiki.

1. Ist Telefonieren und Navigation gleichzeitig möglich?
Ja. Wenn das Navi-Modul Route66 läuft, können Anrufe empfangen werden und Gespräche gestartet werden. Nach dem Beenden des Gesprächs muss allerdings die Navi-Software neu “gestartet” werden. Sie war während des Telefonats im Hintergrund weiter aktiv. Die GPS-Position muss also nicht neu ermittelt werden.

2. Wo schaltet man das Fotolicht ein?

3. Welche Videos kann man auf dem Omnia abspielen?
3gp und WMV können problemlos abgespielt werden. Für andere Ausgangsformate ist ein Konvertierung erforderlich. Das geht schnell und problemlos mit der Freeware Pazera Free Video to 3GP Converter 1.1. Die Anleitung gibt im Blog.
mpeg-4 und mov-Dateien sollen mit dem CorePlayer abspielbar sein. Dazu habe ich aber keine Erfahrung.

4. Kann das Handy vom PC aus gesteuert werden?
Ja. Einfach MyMobiler installieren und schon kann das Handy per WLAN und selbstverständlich auch per Bluetooth über den PC ferngesteuert werden.

5. Wie wird der Touchscreen kalibriert/eingestellt?
Über Start – Einstellungen – Bildschirm – Touchscreen ausrichten.

6. Kann man vom Handy per WLAN auf das Heim-Netzwerk zugreifen?
Ja. Mittels dem Resco Explorer 2008 for PocketPC kann man auf alle auf dem PC freigegebenen Ordner und Dateien zugreifen. Genauso wie von einem anderen PC oder Notebook aus. Hier gibts die Anleitung dazu.

7. Wie stellt man die Verbindung zu einem NAS-Laufwerk her?
Auf ein im Netzwerk integriertes NAS-Laufwerk kann man nur über einen Umweg zugreifen. FTP lautet das Schlüsselwort. Das beherrscht der Resco Explorer ebenso wie der TotalCommander.

8. Wie schalte ich die Navi-Software Route66 frei?
Am einfachsten geht´s mit dieser Anleitung.
Bei meinem T-Mobile-Handy war die Lizenz für die Deutschlandkarte bereits enthalten, so dass hier keine Kosten für den Kartenkauf anfallen. Aber Achtung: Zur Freischaltung ist eine Internetverbindung erforderlich, die Kosten verursacht.

9. Kann man mit dem Omnia Internet-Radio/Web-Radio hören?
Ja. Live-Streaming mit dem MediaPlayer ist kein Hexenzauber. Die Anleitung habe ich bei muldio gebloggt.
Und ein paar Stream-URL´s gibt es auch bei muldio.wordpress.com.

10. Wie bekommt man Kontakte vom i900 Omnia auf den PC?
Das geht am besten mit ActiveSync.
Standardmäßig werden die Daten vom PC auf´s Handy übertragen und die Daten darauf überschrieben. Über die Eigenschaften kann man jedoch einstellen, dass die Daten vom Handy auf den PC übertragen werden sollen. Ankreuzen und schon bekommt man die auf dem Handy ergänzten Daten ins Outlook auf den PC.

11. Kann man über ein (W)LAN auf das i900 Omnia zugreifen?
Nein, das geht leider nicht. Technisch liegt das wohl am Windows Mobile, dass auf dem alten Windows CE basiert und keine Netzwerkzugriffe erlaubt. Die Installation eines FTP-Servers auf dem Handy soll es wohl ermöglichen mittels ftp-Protokoll auf die so freigegebenen Daten das Handy zuzugreifen. Leider habe ich dazu noch kein passendes Programm gefunden.

12. Wie kann ich ein Video vom Handy am PC abspielen?
Der Quicktime-Player sollt mit dem handyeigenen 3gp-Format klar kommen. Es muss also nur die Videodatei vom Handy auf den PC übertagen werden. Wie das geht steht weiter oben.
Wenn nur der WindowsMediaplayer zur Verfügung steht, muss das Video in ein komaptibles Format umgewandelt/convertiert werden. Am schnellsten geht das mit Free Zune Video Converter. Eine kurze Anweisung findet ihr in meinem Blog.

i900 trifft 911S

Nachdem ich ausführlich über meine Erfahrungen mit DesignSkin fürs Samsung i900 Omnia berichtet hab, will ich doch noch ein paar Bilder einstellen.

Die besten CoverDesigns gibt es auch unter www.flickr.com/deindesign zu sehen. Hier kann man sich jede Menge Anregungen für sein Handy, das Notebook oder seinen iPod holen. Der Fantasie sind da (fast) keine Grenzen gesetzt.

Das i900 Omnia hat nur einen Nachteil: Es liegt nicht so gut auf der Straße, wie der 911 Carrera S

Ansonsten sind beides absolute HighEnd-Geräte.

Rücken an Rücken

Heute starte ich nicht mit einem Bericht, sondern mit einer Frage.

Hat einer der Blog-Besucher schon Erfahrungen mit dem CorePlayer für Windows Mobile gesammelt?
Es dürfte sich dabei um den einzigen Player handeln, der mov-Dateien (Quicktime-Format) ohne vorherige Konvertierung abspielt.

Da es leider keine Testversion des knapp 30 EUR teuren Softwarepakets gibt, versuche ich einfach mal diesen Weg der Erfahrungssuche.

iPiMP, die komfortable Art der Fernbedienung des MediaPortal übers Windows-Handy, hat einen kleinen Bruder: Pocket PC Remote.

iPiMP mit IRIS-Browser

Während iPiMP optisch sehr anspruchsvoll aufgebaut ist und den Umweg über einen Browser geht, verzichtet Pocket PC Remote auf optische Gimicks und geht den direkten Weg über Funktionstasten.

Eine ausführlichere Beschreibung gibt es in meinem Blog.

Mein Samsung i900 Omnia entwickelt sich zum Allround-Gerät. Neben den üblichen Funktionen – Telefon, Organizer, Officeprogramm – steuer ich bekanntlich ja auch mein Fernsehprogramm und meine Musik mit dem iPhone-Killer.

Den normalen Fernsehapparat und die Stereoanlage habe ich längst aus dem Fenster geworfen. Bei mir haben HTPC, MediaPortal und SqueezeCenter Einzug gehalten.

Für das MediaPortal gibt es das Super-Plugin “iPiMP”, was eigentlich für das iPhone geschrieben wurde, jedoch auch auf dem Samsung i900 Omnia läuft. Im Kommentar des Blog-Artikels hab ich auch eine Kurzanleitung dazu. iPiMP erlaubt es “Videoaufnahmen” mit dem Handy zu programmieren oder EPG (die elektronische Programmzeitschrift) ebenfalls auf dem Handy zu sehen. Was ich leider noch nicht zum Laufen gebracht hab, ist die Möglichkeit aufgenommene Sendungen auch auf dem Handy-Display anzuschauen. Mit dem iPod/iPhone klappt das.

Schneller geht die Steuerung des MediaPortal aber mit Pocket PC Remote 0.2.2.0.

Das kleine Programm wird einfach auf dem Handy installiert.
Danach einfach die IP-Adresse des HTPC eingeben und ggf. den Port 8100 in der Firewall freigeben.
Gewöhnungsbedürftig ist nur, dass das Anmeldefenster im letzten Register unter “Settings” zu finden ist.
Danach ist das Tool bereit zur kompletten Bedienung des MediaPortal auf dem HTPC. Und das ganze in einer Art und Weise, die man auch von einer konventionellen Fernbedienung gewohnt ist.

Tastenfeld

Das geniale MediaPortal-Tool iPiMP wurde vom Entwicker eigentlich für iPod und iPhone geschrieben. Dank moderner Browser wie IRIS läuft es auch auf Windows-Handys wie dem Samsung i900 Omnia.

Torch Mobile hat die Geschwindigkeit seines Browser in der aktuellen Version 1.1.7 weiter verbessert. Die Steuerung des MediaPortal per iPiMP geht so noch flüssiger und leichter. Zusätzlich wurde die Bildschirmauflösung angepasst. Auf meinem Samsung i900 Omnia entfällt das bisher erforderliche Vergrößern der Seitenansicht zum sauberen Bedienen der Tasten.

Winterface yazılımı ne yazıkki ücretli bir yazılım. Yazılımı kendi sitesinden 19.95 dolara satın alabilirsiniz. Deneme sürümünü ise buradan indirebilirsiniz. Yazılım CAB formatında geldiği için mobil cihazınıza aktarıp orada tek tık ile kurabilirsiniz. Daha sonra kullanım için yapmanız gereken birşey yok mobil cihazınız artık iPhone arayüzüne sahip…

Since I had my Omina problems the other week (it’s about to go in for repair as there are still some strange hardware issues) I lost lots of basic information on the phone.  One of the things I lost was the ring tone.  I can’t remember what I had before, but I like to have something simple and professional that won’t cost me and won’t embarrass me in the office.  I don’t want the latest polyphonic chart hit blaring from my pocket as I sit at my desk.

I spent a little while trawling the web and it’s growing more difficult every time I get a phone to find such a ring tone (and I always forget where I saved a copy).  This time around I decided I’d see what I could do myself.  With a bit of sampling and Audacity I created a simple oscillating tone followed by a brief silence.  When this is repeated during a call ringing through it sounds quite like an old simple mobile phone ring tone … simple, obvious, and for me just what I wanted.

If you have a QR code reader on your Internet capable phone, click on the “download ringtone” graphic to display it full size and then you can download it direct to your device.

To add the file to the the Omnia it just needs to be downloaded and placed into the \\My Device\Application Data\Sounds\ directory.  Then the file can be selected as a ring tone from the phone drop down list in the phone settings – it appears as the file name without the extension – i.e. Simple Ringtone.mp3.

iPod und iPhone hatten – bisher(!) – den Vorteil, dass man mit ihnen das MediaPortal relativ leicht mittels Remote-Zugriff bedienen konnte. Die Betonung liegt auf bisher.

Das Samsung i900 Omnia wird seinem Ruf als iPhone-Killer wieder mal gerecht und nutzt jetzt das iPod/iPhone-Plugin iPiMP von cheezey für  MediaPortal.

Die einzige Voraussetzung, die auf dem Samsung-Handy geschaffen werden muss: ein geeigneter Browser muss installiert werden.
Leider schaffen weder Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile noch Opera 9.5 Mobile die erforderlichen XML-HTTP-Request-Befehle ordentlich zu verarbeiten.
Aber zum Glück gibts hier tolle Freeware-Lösungen wie den IRIS-Browser von Torch Mobile.

Ein HTPC mit MediaPortal ist schon eine tolle Sache.

Jetzt gibt es eine Superlösung, dieses OpenSource Media-Center mit dem Samsung i900 Omnia zu bedienen.

iPiMP für MediaPortal

iPiMP heißt das Zauberwort. Das Plugin von cheezey ist der Hammer. Geschrieben für den iPod oder das iPhone.
Mit ein wenig Pioneergeist läuft das Tool seit dieser Woche auf meinem Samsung i900 Omnia und steuert meinen HTPC.

Keine Sorge. Die Installation ist überhaupt keine Hexerei. Wenn man erst einmal den Trick gefunden hat, ist der Rest ein Kinderspiel. Nicht umsonst ist das i900 Omnia der iPhone-Killer.

Jetzt kann das Omnia sogar die Software des Obst-Handys nutzen und das MediaPortal auf einem HTPC steuern.

Having spent a good part of the last couple of days doing some housekeeping and updating on my Samsung Omnia I had a bit of an issue late last night.  The Omnia is aimed at doing everything (hence the name), but last night I owned an Oblivia.  I’m not sure quite what happened but I think a disagreement between Windows Vista and my Omnia may have been to blame.

The issue was that my onboard additional memory (i.e. the extra storage chip not a removable memory card) became corrupted.  Every time the Omnia tried to interact with it (which it does frequently) it mounted the My Storage memory into the file system and popped up a message asking if I wanted to view any pictures on the card.  Unfortunately from watching it try and load the folder structure in the explorer application it seems that it could never quite finish loading it and it would dismount.  A few seconds later it would mount it again and the process would repeat.

I tried accessing it as a USB hosted mass storage device from an XP and a Vista PC but neither could hold the connection long enough for me to take a good look around.

At this point I’d spent several hours trying to work out how to recover my phone and ultimately came to the conclusion that a hard reset was the only thing that was going to bring it back.  A standard hard reset does not reset the My Storage memory and is invoked by pressing the start and end call keys immediately after pressing the soft reset.

Like most mobile phones special engineer codes allow access to special functions.  One of these is what I call a “Really Hard Reset” where you can type in *2767*3855# … which can on some firmware releases reset the My Storage memory as well as the base internal memory.

Unfortunately my firmware seemed invulnerable.  This lead me to the hard reset software in the settings of the Omnia.  This is available in the System tab under Settings and allow you to reset the internal memory, the My Storage memory, or the entire phone.  The reset of the My Storage memory does however rely on the memory being mounted … which pretty much brought me back to square one.

At this point I’d been looking at the problem and testing various options for about three or four hours and was growing really tired.  I did manage to reset my Omnia in the end using the Hard Reset software but this was down to a lot of trial and error and good timing to catch it across two mount & dismount cycles with the confirmation windows.

The reset reformatted the My Storage memory and the Omnia has been functioning fine since, but I’ve spent most of the day rebuilding my phone – reinstalling software and adding data back on.  Hopefully I’ll find some time to post about some useful things I’ve done to help speed up this process.

A little while ago I posted about some ways to reclaim memory on a Windows Mobile device.  The reason for this was that the main memory on my Samsung Omnia was almost at zero and it had been a fairly common occurrence.  I’ve spent a little while recently trying to get a Skype client working on it and installing it to anywhere but the main memory seemed cause a few issues.  Today however I’ve had a good day working on the phone and I’ve managed to not only get the latest version of the Skype client running from storage rather than main memory but also found a few additional ways of getting some more control over the main memory.

The Omnia comes with the Opera mobile browser and I do a fair bit of surfing on this browser (though I have a few others installed too!)  The issue mentioned in my previous post is that this browser stores downloads and the browser cache in the \APPLICATION DATA\OPERA9\ folders.  It is however possible to change where Opera downloads information to.

To reconfigure Opera, open the browser and type “opera:config” into the address bar.  This will then display the configuration page.  There are several groups of settings that can be expanded by tapping on them – they’re simply hyperlinks.

The ‘Saved Settings‘ group contains a ‘Save Dir‘ setting that determines where Opera downloads files to.  Change this to an area not in main memory and this will help keep things more manageable.  Make sure that you click the save button on this group when you’ve changed the setting.

Another group worth delving into is ‘User Prefs’ .  This one’s quite big so there’s a bit of scrolling to find ‘Cache Directory4‘ which determines where the browser cache is stored.  Again replace the entry with something that refers to a storage area rather than main memory.  Again after more scrolling you can click the save button to store the change of values.

ClearTemp

As this is only a migration of the issue and there are a few other known issue areas I’d also recommend using an application called ClearTemp.  This will clear out a few of these standard areas and also allow you to specify some custom folders to clear out – such as those you’ve just specified for Opera.

Mobile Monger

Another tool I found useful in understanding where memory was being used was by using a great little mobile application called Mobile Monger.  This isquite similar to WinDirStat which is a visual tool I use with people to analyse what sorts of files are taking up their disk space and where they are.  The application displays the file structure as blocks with display sizes relative to space sizes.  This can really help highlight any areas where there are large numbers of files or even just a few files taking up significant amounts of storage space.

That’s right folks, with the world in such mobile chaos, carrying around multiple devices can be tiresome.  But how to catch those great moments in life in high quality video?  Samsung has solved that problem with the Samsung Omnia HD.  The follow-up to their super multimedia phone the Omnia i900 definitely expands on the multimedia aspect.

The HD has a QHD AMOLED display capable of 16million eye-popping colors.  But the key to the HD monacker is the full 720p video recording at 24 FPS and the ability to playback at that same quality.  Add in the Symbian OS features, wi-fi, 3G, Samsung Touch-Wiz full touch UI, and an apparently great construction quality mix of plastics and metals, the HD has definitely raised the bar as far as convergence devices go.

I could go on and on about the phone, but we’ll just have to wait and see what the official release brings us in terms of UI speed and quality of camera.  As it is right now, it is definitely exciting.  Check out the video below for an indepth view for the Omnia HD.  Not in english, but the most complete look at the phone and features I was able to find at this time (unless I can get my hands on one myself!).
