Los chicos de Tech21 parece que han conseguido el sueño de toda persona amante de los iPod/iPhone en particular y de los mandos en general. Se trata de una carcasa hecha de un material gomoso y flexible que se endurece instantáneamente cuando se le golpea. La funda resulta ideal para proteger los frágiles dispositivos cómo los que vende la marca de la manzana, aunque se puede hacer extensible a cualquier dispositivo susceptible de romperse ante un golpe contra una superficie dura.

El d3o és un material flexible amb un aspecte molt similar a una plastilina qualsevol, però que davant d’un impacte s’endureix i es torna a estovar en milèssimes de segon. Un material ideal per a seguretat que ja s’està fent servir per a genolleres, colzeres, vestits per esquiar… i tot tipus de proteccions que requereixen certa mobilitat.

L’empresa Tech21 n’ha fet un funda per a l’iPhone/iPod Touch i la demostració fa posar els pèls de punta:

d3o is a soft and gushy substance that will harden when put under pressure. This material is used in motorcycle jackets, laptop briefcases and other protective applications. Tech21 took this material and turned it into iBand, an iPhone protection case. Check out the video on the next page and see the material at work. I hope one day they will put this stuff into children’s car seats.

Using only the music apps on the iPhone, these four young musicians from Penang, Malaysia perform ABBA’s “Mama Mia” in an iPhone exhibit at a mall in Malaysia.

They actually performed a number of songs (try browsing their YouTube channel) including Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” which is my favorite in the set.

I’m actually impressed with the iPhone’s music apps, and is ohh sooo curious and inspired to look for similar “realtime” music making apps for the PC. For about half a decade of tinkering with music and audio software, I’m quite frustrated that most of the software I have actually used generate the music I need only after feeding music sheets, patterns, or audio samples.

Electronically generating realistic guitar, piano, or percussion sound isn’t actually new. In fact, a lot of music software create the “real” sounds using complex sound engine software. What strikes me as new here is the ability to play these “real sounds” in “realtime” using a touch screen for an interface and without ehem… missing a beat.

I’ve probably not posted for ages. so for those who have been dropping by reading my old stuffs, thank you.. And welcome back to those who have not been around latelty and sorry to those who have been waiting to see me post! Well, it’s been 6 long weeks for me as i took the universities by storm by rolling out a Mega University Road Show for DiGi Campus. I must say, i’m pleased with my achievement.. =)

However, this post is not about DiGi, but about our competitor who has for once wow’ed me with their innovation. Well done Maxis. Here’s a post dedicated to you. Hopefully, i’ll have the opportunity to innovate something to counter back soon.

Was shopping in gardens one day and i heard music being played. Being me, i always walk towards live music, but this time around, i approached Maxis booth but i did not see and instruments. I just saw 4 kids sitting down seeming like they’re playing music. I moved closer to see and i finally discovered the first i-phone application that amazes me.

Imagine being able to bring your keyboard or your guitar literally in your pocket.. =) sounds stupid? well check out these videos..

Haha.. well, the application’s not perfect yet.. but gadgets can always mimic the real sounds.. When the iPhone can imitate the sounds of a Taylor or Martin & Co, i’ll really consider getting one!

For once, well done Maxis for featuring Penang iBand for your road shows. It was really intriguing. You caught my attention for once. But rest assure, i’ll be cracking my head harder to beat your concepts soon..

iBand… one of those many “phenomena” that might not be called such if it weren’t for the Internet. And these folks aren’t the only ones in on the iPod/Phone-as-an-instrument idea. The number of videos of people either screwing around with a Metallica solo or a hacker using their igadget as a drum sampler to replay “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” What a meme. Um trio austríaco tem feito sucesso com sua banda. Até ai nada de inusitado se não fosse o fato de a banda ser “formada” por iPhones e iPods.

Marina nos vocais, guitarra e piano, Seb na bateria e Roger na guitarra, baixo e xilofone. Os iPhones e o iPod têm instalado um aplicativo da MooCowMusic, que permite a emulação dos instrumentos musicais, apesar da qualidade sonora ser um pouco duvidosa.

Posso parecer antiquado, mas eu ainda prefiro instrumentos de verdade.

Nouvelle étape de l’intégration digitale dans notre quotidien, plus besoin d’instruments pour monter un groupe : trois ou quatre amis, un iPhone chacun et le tour est joué ! C’est le principe de ce groupe d’autrichien iBand. Roger à la guitare et au xylophone joue avec l’interface MooCowMusic. Seb est le « batteur » du groupe via Beatmaker. Enfin, Marina, la chanteuse, est au piano et à la guitare via MooCowMusic également.

Le buzz commence a monté pour ces trois « geeks » qui ont déjà fait plusieurs passages TV dans leur pays et en Allemagne. Bon, soyons honnêtes, le niveau musical laisse encore à désirer mais vous serez néanmoins surpris de la qualité sonore. Encore un bel exemple de convergence entre live et digital.

IBand es un Grupo de Chicos IBoys que hacen IMusic con Iinstrumentos con Ipantillastactiles de IGadgets electronicos como un Ipod Touch, un Iphone y una InintendoDs.digo Nintendo DS.En fin, con un pequeño programita puede digitar melodias, las cuales las veo bastante faciles, en fin lo importante es que se les ocurrio a ellos primero, ya tienen videos con miles de visitas y estan por sacar un disco.

Ya es sabido en pleno siglo veinti… veintitantos que estudiar, imaginar, idea musica esta pasado de moda y ahora la onda es remplazar la clasica e inserbible habilidad musical por un software. No discuto de que estos chicos sepan o no, hacer musica, de hecho es bastante bueno, si no que tengo un poco de repeluz a la forma por la cual la hacen, sim embargo me parece mas honesto esto que el “DJ” que usa el frooty loops para hacer musica . Sacamos como conclucion que es la Industria del Arte prefabricada y lista para usar.

El siguiente vídeo no tiene desperdicio; ya habréis oído hablar de las iBand, “grupos” de música que usan como instrumentos iPhones o iPod Touch con jailbreak y aplicaciones de simulación de instrumentos musicales. 

Pues bien, en este vídeo podéis ver la interpretación en iPod Touch de un tema de Yann Tiersen que forma parte de la banda sonora de Amélie.
