Normally I only post my own photography (other than guest author pics, etc.)  Today is an exception, since this one from icanhascheezburger.com so perfectly captures what Big D and I have said for years:

Didn’t raise your hand? Look at this: http://icanhascheezburger.com. That’s a Lolcat, one of the most popular web phenomenons of the last five years. I will admit, I have spent some time on this website taking a look at the captions and laughing quite a bit, but to be frank this the intellectual equivalent of watching the Jetsons.

After running into a few of these site (and there are ‘a few‘), you start to have this sensation that there’s nothing useful on the internet. While you’d probably be right for these site, you’d miss out on some great pages that empower the people.

Enter whitehouse2.org, a site that has a perfect blend of real content and social interaction. The purpose of this site is to present the important political issues of our time and allow discussion on them. You can log on (assuming you’re a US citizen), vote on which issues you support and oppose and debate the issues on the open web. Next to every issue there’s also a little green or red button to show if our president supports this topic, which adds a real world feel to every issue. While this is all great, what really differentiates this from most political sites is that every issue is user generated and debated based on how popular it is. There are no egghead pundits picking the issues, it’s completely left up to the people’s bidding. This is truly democracy at work.

Every so often one of these REALLY tickles me, I’m talking tears people. It is partially the expression on the cat, but that in conjunction with the caption? Hysterical. Just me? Oh well.

But I love lolcats…

And I consider myself to be more of a dog person that a cat person, too…

These two just might be my favorite lolcats of all time, though:

OK, I can’t lose readership that I don’t even have, so I will go ahead and admit publicly that I like “lolcats.”

(Also, I really need to demonstrate that I really am capable of discussing something other than politics and Proposition 8…)

I learned about “lolcats” on Salon.com.

“Lolcats,” if you don’t know, are photos of animals — cats, mostly — with captions that people create. They submit their captioned photos to this web site. The captions (most of them, anyway) are to be written in a way that the animals themselves might have written them, so spelling and grammar are tweaked, and very apparently there are “lolcat” conventions, such as “Ai” for “I,” “hai” for “hi” and “sry” for “sorry.”

Some of the “lolcats” are funnier than others, and I like it when animals besides cats make appearances (I’m more of a dog person than a cat person), but I find the web site addictive despite the fact that it’s heavy on the pus — er, cats.
