I didn’t know what to expect when I watched the first Ice Age.  But I was entertained by this quirky little adventure which follows a sloth, a mammoth, and a sabertooth tiger.  Not really a natural herd by any means, but it worked for them.  Ice Age 2: The Meltdown follows the same formula as the first and like any sequel it bumps it up a notch and adds some more quirky characters, this time with a female mammoth, and two possum, making the herd even more unusual, but again it worked and the movie was entertaining.  With two successful movie, it only makes sense for Blue Sky Studio to want to release another installation.  So here comes Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

Sid being Sid, decide that he is going to become the mother of three unhatched eggs that he found and brought back home.  What he mistakenly assess is that the mother of those eggs is still alive and is now looking for them.  When she finds him and her now hatched eggs, she sweeps the babies up along with an unwilling Sid and carries them to her home, an underground world full of dinosaurs.  Now Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must now go into this new world after the mother to save Sid once again.

Dawn of the Dinosaurs follows the same formula as the two previous movies, you have an adventure where the group must get from point A to point B, this time with the help of a weasel which have been living amongst the dinosaurs, but the script is absolutely horrible.  I found myself time and time again during the movie, just wondering why I was watching something so terrible.  I really can’t put my finger on the exact thing.  I just found that everything the characters did was just stupid and had no motivation in doing them, even for a kids movie.  The build-up was one of the most idiotic I had ever seen.

This movie is plain bad.  The script and directing was terrible, and that’s bad since they follow the same formula as the previous two movies which were widely successful.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs gets a 1.5 out of 5.

According to Wikipedia, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is “the second highest grossing animated film of all time with $874.5 million worldwide.”

Which also means, Ice Age 3 has bested every Pixar production at the box office.

Quite an achievement for director Carlos Saldanha, a 1993 School of Visual Arts graduate from Brazil, who began a career in computer programming before listening to the inner voice that would lead him to direct four high profile feature films(Robots, and all the Ice Age movies) for Blue Sky Studios.

In person Carlos is inspiring and talkative.  He spoke openly about his process, offering valuable insights to the many students in attendance, emphasizing focus and work ethic, two qualities he credits for his own successes.

I asked Carlos “What was the most important moment of your career?”

He immediately identified his first and only independent short, a thesis project for The School of Visual Arts, where he didn’t have to negotiate the many collabrative forces that typically accompany a big budget feature.  The short is his vision, pure and unadulterated.

Perhaps Carlos, at heart, is an independent filmmaker.

How can you not love this guy?

Unfortunately, I thought Ice Age 3 a terrible movie.

The action scenes were good, particularly the pterodactyl sequence, I enjoyed some of the character designs, Rudy’s in particular, and I thought the choices in color palette and camera shots excellent overall.

Yet the dialogue was only slightly more interesting than cats scratching on chalkboard, while the characters had about as much charisma as a dead mackerel.  I never laughed once.

For instance, Buck, a weasel/ferret deranged army vet character, jumps into frame and says:

“I’m about to go Buck Wild!”

No Buck, no.  Don’t say that.  Don’t.  Say.  That.

Yet the characters go on to perform many more mercilessly generic lines, gags, and expressions.  No talking beast was spared.  Even the movie itself never really had anything important to say.

Yet this film still made a tyrannosaurus sized footprint in the industry, such is the power of children’s entertainment, where quality is irrelevant to box office gross.

After all, Shrek 2 is the highest grossing animated film of all time.

Wish I didn’t know that.

But I do wish to see Saldanha attempt another personal project some day.  Focus and hard work may not guarantee a good film, but success cannot be had without them.

La tercera entrega de esta singular saga no me ha defraudado en absoluto. Esta vez acompañaremos a los atípicos protagonistas por una aventura en la que habrán hasta dinosaurios.

Lleno de gags que hacen una muy entretenida visión de la peli. Pensada además tanto para niños como adultos. ¿Habrá una cuarta? Yo apuesto a que sí.

Went to this park in Hoover yesterday, perserve/boulder fields.  Really got some time resting and rejuvenating in nature.  Took a LOT of picture which was exciting to do again.

Just a few I like.  Most likely going to work on some others and upload them to Deviant Art.  It was interesting being out there, I wound up running into some residential areas at the back of the area.  And found this tree house some kids had built and by the way it appeared, it had been there for a good while.

It was fun finding it, reminded me of my own childhood when I would build forts and houses in the woods.   I used to spend my entire days just playing in the woods and fields.  Having grown up in the country presented a lot of room to roam.  It was a great way to grow up.

Spent and excellent session with Leah and Dr.John.  The progression and transformation that we are each experiencing is mind blowing.  I am truly thankful for Dr.John’s assistance and for my best friend.  We grow closer everyday, and being able to build this solid foundation of complete friendship is a blessing.

Watching Ice Age 3 right now, finished watching The Maiden Heist a bit ago.  The Maiden Heist had it’s funny moments, it ended dully though.  Ice Age 3 is decent, still haven’t decided if the first two were better or not.  Still has a good amount of laugh out loud moments for sure though.

My 4-year-old daughter, Cedy woke up this morning with fever.

At first I wondered why.

She was perfectly well the day before, and she’s not really suffering from colds or cough.

I gave her DOLAN for Kids (Ibuprofen).. 5ml..

She spent the rest of the morning in our room watching Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs with her brother.

At around noon, her fever was gone.

During lunch, she asked me for some ice cream, and that’s when I remembered to check her throat.

DIAGNOSIS: Tonsillitis

I gave her SEPTRIN Pedia Susp (Cotrimoxazole).. 5ml.. plus another dose of Dolan..

She was feeling much better when afternoon came.

She even came along when we went to the grocery store to buy her some fruit juices which can help treat her tonsillitis.

Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils; the large, fleshy, oval masses of tissue that lie in the lateral wall of the oral pharynx on either side of the throat. These clusters of tissue contain cells that produce antibodies that are helpful in fighting infection.

The tonsils’ job is to help fight germs that come in through our mouth or nose before they cause infections in the rest of the body. Usually, tonsils do their job well. But sometimes bacteria or viruses get into the tonsils and infect them. The tonsils then become enlarged and red, and can be coated with a yellow, gray, or white substance. An abscess that forms around a tonsil is also known as a quinsy.

Tonsillitis is extremely common, particularly in children.

Most cases of tonsillitis are caused by a virus and are treated at home with over-the-counter sore throat remedies. Less often, tonsillitis is caused by a bacterial infection and antibiotics are needed. At one time, removing the tonsils (tonsillectomy) was a common treatment for recurrent tonsillitis. Today, surgery is only recommended if tonsillitis doesn’t get better with other treatment.

As most cases of tonsillitis are caused by a virus, they do not respond to antibiotics. They will usually go away on their own, but you can take paracetamol or ibuprofen to ease symptoms such as pain, headaches and fever.

When taking medication, you should always follow the instructions to make sure that you are taking the correct dosage at the right time intervals. This will ensure that it is effective in controlling your symptoms. You should not take ibuprofen if you have a history of stomach ulcers, indigestion, asthma, or kidney disease. If you are pregnant, do not take ibuprofen and only take paracetamol as instructed by your doctor. Children under 16 years of age should not take aspirin.

There are also treatments available from pharmacies that can soothe a sore throat, such as lozenges and oral sprays. Some people find that gargling with a mild antiseptic solution can help relieve a sore throat, although research regarding the effectiveness of gargling as a treatment method is limited.

Antibiotics can be used to treat bacterial tonsillitis, such as that caused by streptococcal bacteria. However, research has shown that the effects of using antibiotics to treat the symptoms of a sore throat are limited. The results of a clinical study showed that the maximum benefit was seen by day three, and that, on average, the illness time was only reduced by about one day.

Una escultura de hielo inspirada en el popular personaje Scrat, de la trilogía de películas La era del hielo entró hoy en el Libro Guinness de los Récords al convertirse en la más alta del mundo fabricada con ese material.

La torre de hielo se elevó 13,7 metros y superó en 150 centímetros a la estatua congelada construida en Dubai en 2006 que estaba en posesión del récord.

La puesta en escena tuvo lugar en el centro de Santa Mónica, en condado de Los Ángeles, y fue la culminación de un proyecto iniciado meses atrás que fue tomando forma durante los últimos cuatro días bajo la dirección de 14 escultores de la empresa Ice Bulb.

La presentación estuvo supervisada por los bomberos de Santa Mónica, ante la preocupación de las autoridades de que las rachas de viento y el calor, hoy se registraron más de 20 grados centígrados en la zona, pudieran debilitar la estructura de hielo y derribarla antes de tiempo.

En condiciones normales, la escultura, de más de 60 toneladas, tardaría alrededor de dos días en derretirse, comentó a Efe Mary Daily, vicepresidenta ejecutiva de Marketing de Twentieth Century Fox, estudio de Hollywood productor de la saga “Ice Age”.

Daily fue la encargada de recoger el documento que certificó la consecución del récord Guinness, el primero que logra Fox, aseguró.

La estatua sirvió a los estudios para anunciar la salida al mercado de la última parte de su franquicia animada, “Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs”, en DVD  y bluray.

La trilogía “Ice Age” se ha convertido en una de las más exitosas y rentables de Fox, con una recaudación en taquilla que supera los 2.000 millones de dólares en todo el mundo.

Never saw Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, but since it’s coming to home video soon (I wish I got paid for that plug), it’s time for an apropos update.

Page Schilt has mixed feelings about Ice Age 3. On one hand, it shows animals of heterogeneous gender permuting peacefully. On the other hand, it does its best to reinforce stale stereotypes, particularly masculine tropes. Here’s a bit:

In an attempt to create a compensatory family of his own, Sid appropriates a trio of dinosaur eggs. Now in nurturing mode, he begins referring to himself as “Mommy” and even–unless I’m much mistaken–using feminine pronouns.

All of this, I know, sounds really queer.

But, like so much pop culture, Ice Age 3 simultaneously subverts and reinforces sex and gender norms. All the stuff it’s dredging up from our collective cultural anxiety closet–changing gender roles, the anti-sociality of the nuclear family, alternative communities, homoeroticism–is, I would argue, kept in check by the film’s policing of traditional gender roles.

The utopian nature of the collective is emphasized by the subplot about heterosexual romance between two squirrels. The female squirrel, a hot femme fatale, repeatedly uses her sexual wiles to part the male squirrel from his nut (pun intended, I’m sure). After battling it out in SM foreplay for most of the movie, the squirrels briefly succumb to sexual bliss before descending into domestic hell.

It’s a good read, with some links that I’ll probably highlight individually in the future.

3 movies in 2 days. two good, one majorly epic.

Wednesday, went to watch Triangle at the cinema.

now if u havent seen this, please dont read the rest of this till u reach the next poster.

Triangle is about this single mom, Jess, with an autistic son. she goes sailing with a bunch of ppl. her friend Greg, his boat-mate (he lives on the boat with him), Victor, Greg’s friends Downy n his wife Sally and Sally’s friend Heather. a freak electrical storm rolls in while they’re on the water and capsizes their yacht. Heather is lost at sea. this HUGE ocean liner draws near and they get on. there is NOBODY on board. stuff keeps happening and they keep hearing someone on the ship and suddenly they all start getting killed. then after Jess has pushed the person killing them overboard, she suddenly gets a deja vu thing. she sees the 4 of them on the capsized yacht get on board the ship. its like she’s in an infinite loop. and she realizes that the person killing all of them was actually her. the movie just goes on and on abt how she tries to get them all off the ship.

ok i wont say anymore abt the plot. but basically, if u really want a good mind fuck, go watch this movie.

Thursday (yesterday),

watched Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus.

i swear this movie is EPIC. major EPIC FAIL! hahahaha! its just so horrible. words cannot describe. i have nvr laughed so much at a movie that WASNT meant to b a comedy! i swearrrrr…. u have to see it just to see the stupidity of the film. it was actually released this yr in 2009. which is stupid. go HERE if u wanna see what its abt.

next movie we watched was Ice Age 3 : Dawn of the Dinosaurs. coz neither of us had watched it yet.

it was a good movie! i loved it! Manny and Ellie are pregnant, Diego is doubting himself as a predator and decides to leave the herd, Sid feels lonely and adopts 3 ‘abandoned’ eggs, and the squirrel meets a female squirrel and fights her over the acorn and Crash and Eddie are still the same.. the eggs hatch, 3 tyrannosaurus rexs are born and Sid becomes their Mother. then the Momma T-Rex comes to claim her babies n ends up bringing Sid with her. the herd follows into this underground world where the previously thought to be extinct dinosaurs have been living. they meet Buck the Weasel there and they all go in search of Sid.

i really enjoyed it

Ice Age 3: Die Dinosaurier sind los

Die Eiszeit ist auch nicht mehr das, was sie mal war: Säbelzahntiger Diego steckt in einer tiefen Midlifecrisis und Mammutpaar Ellie und Manni erwarten Nachwuchs. Faultier Sid fühlt sich bei all dem Babytrubel einsam und sehnt sich nach einer eigenen Familie.

Der Zufall meint es gut mit ihm, denn als er zufällig ins Eis einbricht, findet er drei herrenlose Dinosauriereier und nimmt sich ihrer an. Doch die Tyrannosaurus-Rex-Mama der bald geschlüpften Dinosaurierbabys ist damit alles andere als einverstanden und verschleppt die ungebetene “Mama” Sid samt dem Nachwuchs in die Dschungelwelt unterm Eis, wo die Dinosaurier das Artensterben überlebt haben.

Natürlich hält nichts die Freunde davon ab, Sid zu helfen: Manni, Ellie, Diego und die beiden überdrehten Opossums Crash und Eddie brechen sofort in die abenteuerliche Welt der Dinosaurier auf. Als zweifelhafter Helfer steht ihnen dabei das einäugige Wiesel Buck zur Seite, das sich auf seinem ganz persönlichen Rachefeldzug befindet…

Pentru ca nu am mai scris de mult, m-am gandit sa va fac o bucurie, imaginarilor mei cititori. Ca, datorita cautarilor si trimiterilor mai intra pe aici vreo peste 40 de oameni pe zi. Ceea ce se traduce prin chiar foarte bine, dat fiind ca in ultimele doua luni am postat exact doua articole. No, dar sa trecem la treaba.

Up.

Ultimul film de la Pixar Animation. Incepe destul de interesant si cu o viteza asemanatoare inceputului din The Incredibles. Actiunea este una slabuta, filmul e cam prea mult pentru copii. Si asta e pacat, ma asteptam la mai multe de la Pixar, mai ales dupa un Wall-E de-a dreptul incantator, de anul trecut. Totusi, un plus pentru cainii dotati cu translator si care ajung sa vorbeasca pe limba noastra. Insa se pare ca e deja la moda aceasta tendinta, o regasim si in proaspatul G-force, chiar daca nu pe caini, ci pe porcusori de Guineea.

E pana acum din cate filme am vazut, animatia anului. Distribuitie buna, avandu-l in prin plan pe Nicolas Cage, personal chiar nu inteleg ce conteaza o distributie ultra-cunoscuta pentru un film de animatie? Si asa nu joaca actorii respectivi, ci vorbesc. Actiunea e chiar ok, fiind genul de film care merita vazut pe un ecran cat mai mare, preferabil la cinamtograf. Povestea: niste hamsteri(porcusori de Guineea de fapt) formeaza un fel de echipa secreta renegata de catre autoritatile americane, fapt ce duce la diverse incurcaturi. E fain ca filmul nu este foarte previzibil, lucru care ii da un plus.

Ice Age 3.

Anuntat cu surle si trambite, l-am vazut in semi-calitate pe ecran de laptop cu prietena. Filmul e de la prost la foarte prost. Departe de Ice Age 2, care mie personal mi-a placut mai mult decat emotionantul Ice Age pilot. 3? Un Sid mai isteric ca niciodata, un Diego slabit, aproape pensionat, scos in decor, etc, un Manny enervant ca deobicei, plus eroii din 2 bagati la pachet ca gustarea pentru micii scolari. Apare un smecher nou, ceva opossum mai campion, si ala destul de penibil din cate imi amintesc(am vazut filmul pe la inceputul verii). Filmul e facut pentru vizualizare in trei dimensiuni. Voi completa concluzia asta la sfarsitul review-ului urmator, pentru ca altfel ar trebui sa o repet si acolo.

The Final Destination.

Dupa cum anunta si titlul, e un punct la existentele trei si un nou inceput. Un inceput penibil, cu o parte de decor Talladega(curse Nascar, pentru nestiutori) si presarat cu mult pop-corn si cu multa soda. Ghinionul meu a fost ca nu m-am uitat singur, ca altfel sigur nu ma uitam pana la capat. Alternez sa il clasific, fie ca si a waste of money fie ca si a 3d movie. Practic, alaturi de Ice Age 3, filmul se traduce prin lipsa de originalitate, dar grafica de senzatie. E, daca doriti o mica comparatie, asemanator cu ce se lansa pe piata jocurilor de PC de acum vreo 7-8 ani si pana acum vreo 2 ani, perioada constituind inceputrile pietei 3d. Lipsa crasa de originialitate completata insa din belsug cu grafica la cele mai inalte standarte. Probabil asa se va intampla si in cinematografie o buna bucata de vreme de acum incolo. Vom asista la lansari pompoase din punct de vedere a graficii, insa lipsite de viziune.

District 9.

Adica, ultimul film a lui Peter Jackson. Da, nenea ala bogat care a regizat Lord of the Rings. Avem de a face cu un sf, zic unii: original, avangardist de-a dreptul. Cadre moderne, actiune excelenta. Ce mai, ar fi un film de nota 10, daca nu si-ar fi gasit sa apara anul trecut filmul numit Cloverfield. Poate mi se pare doar mie, insa District 9 aduce mult a Cloverfield. Povestea: extraterestii aia pe care ii asteptam de atat amar de vreme si-au gasit sa vina. Au aterizat. Mai exact in Africa de Sud. Treaba e ca nu prea se inteleg cu oamenii, aducand multa bataie de cap celor din zona si se cer masuri urgente pentru ameliorarea situatiei. Un film de actiune excelent si foarte avangardist.

Sleep Dealer.

Cand m-am pus sa il vad stiam de el ca e un sf si cam atat. Cand am terminat stiam ca este un sf si un film extraordinar, probabil unul dintre cele mai bune pe care le-am vazut anul acesta. Desi, oarecum static ca actiune, filmul compenseaza prin viziunea sa asupra unei lumii viitoare foarte apropiata, surpinzator opusa globalizarii asa cum o intelegm noi astazi. Practic globalizarea se mentine, insa doar la nivel elitist. practic, daca ai norocul sa te nasti in tabara buna o duci foarte bine, insa daca da ghinionul sa fi copil de salahor, asa o sa ramai toata viata. un fel de feudalism modern. Filmul merita vizionat cu adevarat. Il recomand!

Comedie foarte buna, oarceum semanand ca si tipare cu Role Models, insa fiind ceva mai bland decat acesta cu nuditatea si limbajul. Un ins de vreo 34 de ani e readus la 17 ani ca sa isi puna ordine prin viata. Aceasi poveste rasuflata de transformare, cu zana buna, dar intr-o perspectiva moderna si ca atare, spusa destul de amuzant. Merita vizionat.

The Hangover.

Marea mahmureala e penibila. Pe bune, evitati-l! Nu e deloc amuzant, iar cand un film de comedie nu provoaca rasul, zambetul sau macar ranjetul, merita uitat. M-am uitat la el, recomandat fiindu-mi din vreo patru sau cinci parti care nu aveau legatura una cu cealalta. La atatea recomadari, credeti-ma, m-am straduit din rasputeri sa ma fac sa imi placa filmul de la inceput si pana la sfarsit. Am esuat lamentabil. Posbil insa, sa fie ca am avut eu asteptari prea mari de la el.

Ar mai fi si alte filme vazute, dar chiar nu imi mai vine nicunul prin cap amu. Asa ca va las. Pana data viitoare. Hai, sa aveti noroc!

3D-Kino: Die neue Generation des Kinozeitalters erzeugte anfangs eine ganz schöne Aufregung und war auch für mich Kinofan eine tolle Sache. Anfangs funktionierte das Ganze auch noch ausgezeichnet. Mein erster 3D-Film “Monster vs. Alien” überzeugte mit der speziellen Optik und machte richtig Spaß. Auch der Splatterfilm “My bloody Valentine” brachte in der neuen Technik ganz neues Gänsehaut-Gefühl. Doch dann nahm die Menge an neuen 3D-Filmen immer mehr zu und inzwischen liegen die Starttermine dieser Filme so nah aneinander, dass es kaum noch zu schaffen ist, sich alle rechtzeitig anzusehen bevor sie wieder aus dem Programm verschwinden. Dazu kommt eine kaum nachvollziehbare Einteilung der laufenden 3D-Filme auf den einen Kinosaal, den das Kino (wenn überhaupt) dementsprechend ausgestattet hat. Während “Ice Age 3″ gar nicht mehr aus dem Programm genommen wird, lief beispielsweise “Coraline” nur wenige Wochen in 3D. Wer da nicht rasend schnell war, hatte Pech. Nun wechselt das Programm zwischen “Oben” und “Final Destination 4″ hin und her und wer weiß wann schon der nächste Film kommt. Ich finde da ist einiges schief gelaufen mit den Startterminen, denn wie sollen drei gleichzeitig laufende 3D-Filme in nur einem Kinosaal untergebracht werden? Mal sehen wie das weitergeht im “neuen Kinozeitalter”.

Scenarist al serialului ‘The Simpsons’ timp de 17 ani, Mike Reiss a creat serialele TV de succes ‘The Critic’ şi ‘Queer Duck’ pentru canalul American Showtime. Reiss apare pe genericul a numeroase emisiuni de televiziune americane şi a colaborat ca scenarist la ‘Ice Age’ 1 şi 3, ‘Mireasa moartă’ de Tim Burton şi lung metrajul ‘The Simpsons Movie’ (2007). Scrie cărţi pentru copii si colaborează în presa scrisă. A susţinut conferinţe despre comedie şi animaţie în peste o sută de universităţi şi instituţii de pe patru continente.

Din culisele ‘The Simpsons’

Mike Reiss a câştigat patru Premii Emmy şi un Premiu Peabody pentru contribuţia sa la ‘The Simpsons’, serialul de animaţie votat de revista Time drept ‘cel mai bun show de televiziune al secolului al XX-lea’.
Mike va dezvălui secrete din lumea personajelor şi episoadelor voastre preferate, va vorbi despre relaţia nu tocmai relaxată cu diverse celebrităţi, politicieni, leaderi religioşi.
Despre el însuşi şi despre colegii scenarişti, Mike spunea: “Cu toţii ne-am  dori să fim Bart, dar am fost Lisa când am crescut şi devenim cu toţii Homer.”
Mike va vorbi şi despre alte creaţii animate ale sale, ca ‘The Critic’ şi ‘Queer Duck’ (despre o raţă homosexuală!)
