We arrived in sunny Mallorca on Saturday at a huge 22 degrees.. Kath and I immediately stripped off

We arrived in sunny Mallorca on Saturday at a huge 22 degrees.. Kath and I immediately stripped off (well took our jackets off).. Kath’s aunt Maxine and Grandpa met us at the airport to pick us up. Surprisingly enough our flight was early, good old Ryanair.

From the airport we headed to Maxine’s flat which Kath and I are staying at. (Maxine and Tommy have a beautiful house behind the flat. We then headed out to lunch to an all-you-can-eat (and drink) buffet. We all stuffed ourselves full then headed into Port de Polenca to take Kath’s Grandpa home. He has an apartment right on the waters edge, beautiful location. We then went to Maxine and Tommy’s house and had watched some tv on the wide screen and had some wine.

On Sunday we had a pretty quiet day and headed out to a Medieval Fayre Markets which we walked around an old church courtyard that had a whole pig on the spit. Maxine bought us some slippers to keep our feet warm in the evenings. We went to a Kebab place for lunch. It was the biggest kebab ever! And Tasty!!

On Monday, Maxine was going to hire a car for us. So we drove into the town centre of Port Pollenca and tried to hire a car, however we were to young so we drove to Alcudia and Maxine hired us a little blue Ford Ka. It’s a nice little 3 door car. In the afternoon we drove up to Formentor which is up narrow little roads up mountains and through tunnels to get some great views and to see a far which is a lighthouse. The views were absolutely amazing! Got to love the Mediterranean.

On Tuesday, we filled the car up at a petrol station in Alcudia – the guy came up and filled the car up for us and then you just go in and pay – it was great!! We then drove through Arta, then to Cap de Pera and went up to the lighthouse and had a nice little break – the views on this corner of Mallorca were just as beautiful if not better. We were having a snack of some cheese chip things and all these cats come out from nowhere – there was like 7 cats! We then drove around for awhile trying to find the coves de arta. We got 2 euros of our tickets which was good – the caves were great – the guide spoke spanish, some english and a little bit of french – Pretty impressive!

We then drove home and had a nice night in. On Wednesday – Kath started to feel a little better and we went in to Port Pollenca and had a quick walk around the markets and then came home- to go off for a nice drive up mountains to Port Solla. The roads were narrow – but the views were amazing. There was an odd car who we think were driving around the tourist stop points seeing if people left there cars open. We had parked our car at one photo spot, and we were taking some photos and just sitting in the sun when Kath see’s this car come from one direction and turns around and drives back the way they came and parked right behind our car, the passenger guy got out and started to look at “the view” and then when he saw us walking back to the car he got back in and had to REVERSE to drive off. The fact that he was that close when There WAS like at least 100 other places seemed odd… as we were driving along we saw the same car within like 3kms like 5 times. We think he was driving around the tourist photo stops. So we kept driving to Port Soller and had a nice walk around the water and tried to make sense of the menus etc… We ended up getting ice cream.

We then headed through some towns and ended up in Palma (the capital of Mallorca).. The traffic was horrific through the town centre. We then headed back up to the flat. We’ve seen some fantastic views and are loving the sun and warm weather we are having.

We received samples of Smucker’s Pumpkin Pie Spice and Apple Cinnamon ice cream toppings in our office last month. They were so good that I had to get some for home. I told the kids about our office taste test which got 10 thumbs up in a 5 person office. We immediately broke out the ice cream and loaded it up. My daughter, Dominique, loved the Apple Cinnamon topping. It has little chunks of apples with just the right amount of cinnamon and it gave our vanilla ice cream a great little kick. The Pumpkin Pie Spice was the overall winner in my house though. We have gone through 2 jars in just a few days. We had the whole family involved including my daughter’s boyfriend. Maybe Smucker’s could make a jumbo jar next year. The spices are subtle, but very tasty. It has a nice creamy texture and is really good when you warm it up. So, out of my family of 5, there was a 10 thumbs up! Go out and get some now, you won’t be sorry.

It started out with catching up with Rashmi for coffee. Maybe, she thought I was trying to pin her down for a wine list. But I was bored and had nothing else to do after dropping off clothes at the dry cleaners’.

So when I met her she asked me if I was in a hurry to go back. Nope – all yours, but why? There is an amazing place to check out nearby – I didn’t get the name, but I did hear fudge, icecream and factory. Yumm. And Rashmi’s sis Sani wants to check it out too. By the time we leave Sani’s in-laws’ place, there are 5 of us – one of which is a toddler 1 week shy of turning one (Sani’s daughter Clarissa)! Sani’s sis-in-law makes up the 5th girl in the group.

We reach the shop that goes by the name ‘Cream and Fudge Factory’. The walls are covered by pictures of icecreams that instantly made my mouth water. We finally settle on three different varieties: Black Forest in a chocolate dip wafer lined cup, Mocha in a plain cup and a strawberry truffle heaven in a plain wafer lined cup.

When the icecream arrived, I was disappointed to see that the strawberry heaven didn’t resemble the picture in any way. There were no whole strawberry – instead strawberry sauce. No cherries in the Black Forest either – just more of strawberry sauce.

But the look of unadulterated joy on Clarissa’s face with each spoonful of icecream more than made up for it. With her minimal front teeth (about six), she chewed on the wafer. Her lips are covered in chocolate but she delicately dabs it clean with her tissue – very proper and ladylike. She jumped up and down on the sofa with glee. We never realized that more than one hour had passed.

Reluctantly, I say goodbye and part.

Hi guys! We had SUCH an amazing time at the concert!!! Oh my gosh, it was awesome! If you can get to

Hi guys!

We had SUCH an amazing time at the concert!!! Oh my gosh, it was awesome! If you can get to see Brit you should, it was so much fun!

But to recap, Rosie and Lily made cupcakes for morning tea yesterday

and they were so delicious. I had one plus more icing , mmmmmm Magnolia Bakery Buttercream Frosting… need I say more?

Then we headed to Rose Bay for lunch before our hair appointments. We went to Pita Mix which is an Israeli pita cafe. We got chips to share, the dip plate and a pita to start.

Salsa, babaganoush and hummos – so yum!

Fresh warm pita

For my pita I ordered the felafel with salsa, babaganoush, hummos, coleslaw, red cabbage and pickles.

Action shot with extra tomato sauce.

Then we went to Corte for our hair appointments. I got GHD medium sized curls.

I sported my new Ted Baker bow dress from Hong Kong!

We did some posing of course .

With my beautiful nieces Lily and Rebecca .

Getting excited!

Merilyn, Rosie and I had some champagne before we left and we all icecreams when we got to Acer Arena – it was really really hot in Sydney yesterday!

I tried this Maxibon and holy moly it was amazing. Cookies ice cream with half biscuit (think Giant Sandwich) and half choc coated.

The concert was incredible! What a show – Beccy got the most awesome shot of Britney dancing in a cage which I will try and upload asap. Unfortunately, my camera couldn’t get any good shots, they were all blurry and faint. Stay tuned!

Midnight munchies were needed since we didn’t have dinner. This was a toasted light cheese on sourdough – mmmmm.

Plus half another cupcake!

Done and done – amazing day!

I woke up at about 7am and I headed out for a run to beat the heat today. I just did a quick 30 minutes around the streets but still got super sweaty. Plus 50 squats and 20 lunges each leg while overlooking the cliffs . Brekkie was quick bowl of cereal

All Bran, Mini Wheats and sultanas with skim milk.

Today we are off to Westfield to go shopping, get pedicures and to see New Moon!!!! Yip yip! I love Edward Cullen . I am such a Twihard…

My partner lived on these in Singapore! The icecreams cost $1 Singapore and you get a thick rectangular chunk of yummy icecream wedged in between two wafers (or rainbow bread…but I eat so slowly I imagine it would go soggy for me ). They had all kinds of flavours, from the traditional chocolate, raspberry swirl, mocha chip, to Durian, Honeydew, Red Bean and the Sweet Yam in the above photo (yes, it is purple, and yes, it is actually really nice!).

Mr Icecream Man...the photo is blurry because it was dark and I had no tripod (longer exposure = more shake ) but I wanted to show it anyway

You buy the icecream from street vendors like in the photo above. We found several vendors along Orchard Road, and there are often about 3-4 on Clarke Quay near the Swissotel Merchant Court (where we stayed). To get to the part of Clarke Quay I am talking about you can just get the MRT (mass rapid transit = underground train) to the Clarke Quay stop, then follow the signs that will take you to the Clarke Quay exit.

If you go to Singapore, make sure you get some of these cheap yummy treats. You will definitely feel like it with their hot weather!

Morning everyone!

Wow, so exhausted. Yesterday was BUSY and AWESOME! People who know me, know that I am completely nuts when it comes to Pearl Jam. I’ve travelled the world to see their concerts, met Eddie Vedder and behave quite embarrassingly when at concerts (poor Adam ) but they have and will always be my favourite band. Last night just reinforced how amazing they are, especially as a live band. Eddie was on fire!

Here are some snaps in case you’re interested

Ahhhh – got some great video too but I won’t bore you all with that, ha ha!

But what did she eat?

Well yesterday turned into a really busy day with us running around a bit like headless chickens. Mid morning I had a piece of toast with PB

and after being stuck in some serious traffic for over an hour we went to Pronto for a quick lunch where I had a delicious pizza

This was prawn and goats cheese (no yellow cheese) and I added the chillis on (of course).

Adam had an eggplant and goats cheese and yellow cheese pizza

I was starving and managed to eat all my pizza! Super full though.

Later in the afternoon we had some Il Gelato for refreshment. I got cookies and Adam got passionfruit.

So good, and 50% less fat than normal icecream.

I really didn’t eat much else for the day. At the concert I snacked on a pack of sultanas. By the end and once we got home at midnight though I was going to eat my arms off so we made some more midnight munchies .

Veggie burger with tomato paste and cheese

which exploded a bit in the microwave. We split this down the middle. Plus I had a tiny bowl of Digestive cereal.

So you may be wondering why I am sitting here blogging when I should be running a 10k race! Well yesterday afternoon I made the decision that I wasn’t going to do the race for a few reasons. I wanted to spend more time with Adam since he is flying back to Hong Kong tonight, I knew I would be tired from going to the concert and there is not point running a race when you are exhausted. Also, my back hurts from standing at the concert all night so I am really glad I didn’t push myself to do it.

Next week is the 4k cross country over in Sydney that I am running with my nieces so I’m looking forward to that!

Gotta go, we are off to see our friends new baby girl and we have an engagement party.

Ciao!

There is so much I need to catch up on. It has been my birthday so I have been taking it extra-easy and doing some stuff.

My parents came over on Sunday and we had roast beef! It was so yummy. They also bought birthday cake and a lemon cheese cake which was so ridiculously nice that I asked them to leave the two thirds that were left so I could be alone with it for a while. My sister bought me a lovely silver bracelet, and a book about Lolcats! My parents got me some smart work clothes, some kitchen things and some money They are also thinking about getting me a table and chairs for the house, maybe this or similar from John Lewis:

My sister also made me the sweetest little cake with marzipan icing:

During the week Ryan and I went to a wine tasting session at the bar I work at. Two french men came along from the wine companies that we stock from, and we tried many…many wines! Rather worst for wear at the end of the evening, after our amazing crisp rolls.

Thursday was my 22nd birthday! I had an interview in the morning, which meant I didnt get a lie-in, but I had a midday nap, and then Ryan came home from work. I opened all my presents, and we tidied the house for a mini-party we had in the evening. Here are some pictures of presents:

He also got me Frank Turner tickets for March in London, the cutest cupcake set with an icing bag, and fireworks for the party!! EEeeee!

I dont have any pictures from the party I was too busy chatting and drinking wine, and running around the garden lighting fireworks with incense sticks. Apparently Vawn took some photos of me bending over showing my ass off a load in the garden while I was lighting them, but I am yet to see that! I cant help it that my bum doesnt fit in my trousers! Thankyou everyone who came to our house that night it was really nice. Thankyou to Lauren and Vawn for my pretty necklaces, and to Jodi for my teddybear cake, and other Lauren for my HMV card:

Yesterday myself and Ryan went to Elizabeths of Eastgate in Rochester Highstreet, for a lovely meal. I wore a white summery (stupid for this weather) dress with green leaves and flowers around the bottom, with tights and a white cardigan, and Ryan looked lovely as usual in a shirt and trousers. We both had ‘cote de beouf’ with chunky chips and a red wine jus which was stunning, and we shared a chocolate brownie with fudge sauce, creme anglaise, and ice cream. So yummy!

Today I got up and I had a card and present from Elise made of Perler Beads:

So cute thankyou!

I have almost finished Batman: Arkham Asylum for the second time, playing through on hard and it seems to be ridiculously easy this time around, so it hasnt been taking long at all. I bought Ryan COD:MW2 for an early Christmas present, but I still need to finish WaW before I set to work on the new game. I also, of course, have Wet and Tombraider to play now! So many things to do haha…

I think today me and Ryan are going to make some cupcakes, and use my Hello Kitty cake mold for the first time. I hope they come out amazing

This has been quite a long post and I still havent included all the cute and amazing things I have found so far this week. Here is a quick round-up of a few things:

I’m under attack! By memories! Wonderfully vibrant memories that at always unexpected and some

I’m under attack!

By memories!

Wonderfully vibrant memories that at always unexpected and sometimes inconvenient moments jump into my brain, set my neurons in overdrive and make me feel as if real life is less alive than whatever scene is unfolding behind my eyes; it can be regarding the most trivial or intensely meaningful times of my life; matpakke at Korsvoll, icecream in Amsterdam, dusty carpets underfoot at home, a movie in Zurich, a hug at an airport, night-time in Glenrowan, an orange in Verona, a look or a smile from anyone and everywhere. The tramtracks in Melbourne. The trees in Scotland. It’s not always positive, either, some memories bring me to the brink of tears, often just by so forcefully intruding on my thoughts while at the same reminding me that that moment will never be repeated, ever ever ever.

If I sounds slightly insane, then well, yeah. It feels insane. It’s not like I never took the trip down memory lane previously, it’s just that lately it has been so involuntary, and vivid, and fast, like memory lane is Tin Alley on a spring evening after rain, the colours are brightly washed and I’m speeding through on my bike, probably on my way to Nova or Brunetti’s or Gelati, if not just on my way home from uni after a day of intense studying. And just as abruptly as if I’d suddenly hit a brick wall, or a treacherous cobblestone perhaps, it’s over. Jolted back into the real world, with my head spinning, I wonder what is going on.

And whatever I happen to be actually doing at the time of the invasion, I realise that that memory may also come back to tickle my grey matter later. What a loopy loop. I hope it never ends, but it’d be nice if it quietened down for a while when I’m trying to concentrate on my books.

So I have just reading one of those knowledge/science magazines which are always outrageously expens

So I have just reading one of those knowledge/science magazines which are always outrageously expensive. This one was the first ever issue of ‘How It Works’, it was okay. I think it might of been a spin-off of the webstite How Stuff Works.

It was an okay read, interesting facts and such. I knew a lot of the information it had, but it went into slightly better detail which was good.

But I’ve actually spent the last 3 days trying to remember the word which I learn in it, which is sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia. I’m, so proud, because I just recited that from memory! The meaning of this extra cool word is…Brain Freeze!

I really, really want to bite into an ice cream when with company, and as I clutch my head say “Argh! Damn this sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia!”

I’d feel very clever, and therefore make my day I may try it tonight, my sister just arrived back from the US so we’ll probably be having ice cream later and a movie

Ah November, thou art a sneaky bastard. November is once again here. as it is every year, at the sam

Ah November, thou art a sneaky bastard. November is once again here. as it is every year, at the same time, for the same time. Except in leap years. Damn February, making everyone late (Or really young in Frank Woodley’s case.) because it feels the need to be special and different. Any way, I digress. Alot. The point, (if it can be called that) is That November is here. Hooray! Because November is here, which means that the end of the year draws nearer. (Thank god) This also means that school is almost over, Christmas is almost here, and that I, yet again, have to again, take up my quest to find a way to hibernate through summer. I really do not like Summer. I would much prefere to be Really cold, than about TO MELT. The best thing about Summer is icecream. But I can eat icecream in Winter (Which I do).

Oh, fruit is another good thing about summer, I really like Summer fruit. (Better than the bananas and apples that are mushy when they should be crunchy, that I have been eating for the rest of the year.) But, once again, FOILED! You can get frozen berries, and preserved peaches and the like all year round. Although, granted, it’s not the same, but I’m sure they’re currently working on some sort of genetically modifed super fruit, that combines all of the summer fruits, and grows all year round. What else would bored scientists be doing?

Anyway, school’s almost over, and Christmas is on it’s high-powered flame-skates, and is on it’s way. And I am… Really excited. I can’t wait! I hope I get that ice suit I want so I may be able to SURVIVE Summer.

Hi friends

Wow, the weekend has come to an end already , how did that happen? Today I didn’t really get anything I wanted to get done, done, but had a great day anyway! Rosie called and asked if I wanted to go to Yum Cha with her and Jeremy and the girls so of course I said yes. Apart from the fact that I love Dim Sum/Yum Cha, whatever you want to call it, it is my favourite hangover cure . Before I met up with them though I got a coffee and picked up a present for Adam’s step sister who just had a baby who they called Poppy! Love it! I also got a little something for Eva that was too hard to resist – some boardshorts for summer! So cute.

We went to Hinz again, it’s our current favourite, and we ordered up a storm!

Squid

BBQ Pork flour rolls

Pork and prawn dumplings

I had rice, lots of squid, veggies and 1 of each of the dumplings and a couple of flour rolls. We all rolled out of there but had room for icecream! I got a single scoop of Cookie Dough from Gelare.

Then…we went for a walk up to the Art Gallery shop and looked at all the cool stuff and books. I left Rosie etc. there and walked into the city to do some shopping as Witchery has 25% off and I have a Spend and Save voucher for Country Road. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a very successful trip though and couldn’t really find any “right”. I saw lots that I wanted in Witchery but none of my size were left or they turned out just looking crappy. Oh well no money spent I guess! I ended up walking up to Harbour Town and going to the Nike Outlet and picking up some more shorts for summer. I got these 3 pairs for $20 each! Nice one .

I walked for about 3 hours in total and couldn’t face running today so I’ve put it off… hopefully I can squeeze in a long run this week before my 10 miler on Sunday. I’m sure I’ll be fine anyway with the 14km under my belt from last weekend, it just would have been nice to know for certain I can do it. Oh well.

Once I had hung out with Bronte for a bit at my parents I snacked on a few strawberries at home.

For dinner I made a yummy omelette with Pesto!

In the mix went:

2 eggs

1 extra egg white

1 courgette sliced finely

4 grape tomatoes

30g of goats cheese

salt and pepper

1 T pesto

with a side of steamed corn on the cob.

Delicious. The pine nuts made the omelette crunchy!

Dessert was some berries, Greek yoghurt and a small handful of nut clusters for topping.

Ok, I must do some ironing and get ready for work tomorrow. I want to be in bed reading by 8.30pm! 2am nights knock me for 6. Wish me luck .

The idea that animals should be treated with respect is not a new one; in fact, the first American protection law dates back to 1641 when the Massachusetts Bay Colonists established the basis for humane cattle farming (see above). The first activist group, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, emerged after the civil war, and by 1907, every state had enacted some form of a protective statute. Since then, animal rights activists have splintered into innumerable groups and associations, each with their own unique opinion and methodology. But, while 96% of Americans agree with a degree of protection from harm and exploitation, one organization by the name of PETA consistently crosses the boundary of acceptable and appropriate.

Since its establishment in 1980, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has taken its proposed ideology of kindness and awareness to the extreme. Some of their most inflammatory propositions include:

Suggesting that a U.K. music group named Pet Shop Boys change their band’s name to Rescue Shelter Boys

Designing a vegetarian ad campaign to inform men about how eating meat hurts their “manhood”

Brainwashing children against their parents with the use of graphic and disturbing anti-fishing and anti-fur flyers

As recently as September 2008, PETA wrote a letter to Ben and Jerry’s Ice-cream in Burlington, VT proposing that the company use breast milk instead of cow’s milk to lessen animals’ suffering. Within 24 hours PETA’s blog was flooded with baffling logic and health statistics that attempted to prove that cow’s milk was the leading cause of conditions such as allergies, obesity, and heart disease. After two weeks of intense publicity, during which the activist group thoroughly reveled in the attention garnered from their “buxom beaut of an idea,” PETA continued to stoke the media’s flames; virginal baby Jesus sharks, hunting-induced impotence, or naked fur-free campaigns anyone?

With one absurd proposal after another PETA continues to generate waves of rabid controversy, planting the animal rights movement firmly in the media spotlight. Whether their extreme tactics and inflammatory claims are justified- well, that’s up to you. But judging by the fervor of their endless self-assertions, there can be no doubt that PETA enjoys all the attention. Watch out ladies, with PETA on the prowl breast-feeding women may just become the next hottest commodity.

I think I am in love with Mochi and the wonderful colours and fillings it can have! It’s like smooching a little soft toy.
I spent an entire night looking up mochi recipes went to bed thinking about all the different variety that I can make to slowly progress to making more challenging types.
The moment I woke up, I couldn’t wait to go buy the ingredients. I have never felt so excited about making a particular food before, so I really think this mochi obsession will take on a little journery with my cooking =)
The proudest moment was opening the freezer door and scooping out the frozen icecream mochi’s from the tray. These were the hardest to make by far as the icecream melts as you are trying to wrap it in the glutinous rice dough. I either need freezing hands or experiment with other methods. I had already put the tray I was working on – on top of ice. So if anyone has other suggestions please help! I also found the part where you fold in the extra dough is thicker than the rest of the mochi… I bet I am not wrapping it properly so any tips are welcome!
The exciting things I had equipped myself with included:

Glutinous rice flour (you don’t have to get shiratamako – the Japanese version)

Green tea icecream

Black sesame icecream

Red Bean icecream

Sweet potato

Red bean paste

Food colourings

Melon baler (this is a much better size if you want smaller mochi’s as I found large mochi’s to be too filling)
