Incase you missed it last night, UFC President Dana White announced the coaches for season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter. Just before the main event of the night at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale, Dana White told the world that the coaches are going to be Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and Tito Ortiz.

Liddell vs Ortiz III, just be a good ppv draw. Aside from that, Chuck Liddell won both of the previous fights and I think Griffin vs Ortiz III would of been a better fit.

The cast has not been revealed yet, but Dana White said that the weightclass would be middleweights and light heavyweights.

The Story: Scott ventures into Emma’s mind in an attempt to seperate her from the void as tensions grow among Utopia’s residents.

What’s Good:  X-Men fans will no doubt be absolutely thrilled to know that this month is a Greg Land-free zone.  I’ll admit that over the past couple of months, my position on land has reached something akin to sadly ambivalent resignation.  The Dodsons’ signature style has always been fun and as a result, this entire experience of this issue is a much more pleasant affair compared to the past few Land-drawn books.  I can’t necessarily point to specific images that blew me away, nor can I talk in specifics.  All I can say is that the book as a whole feels so different and so much better under the Dodsons’ hands.  It feels so much more fun, so much more full of life, and so much more likable.  Hell, even though they aren’t writing, the book even feels smarter.  Under the Dodsons, Uncanny essentially becomes a better book, one that’ll leave you feeling a lot happier and a lot more eager to read it.

To be fair, though, this is also a better outing by Fraction as well.  While last week’s book was little more than an extended action sequence, this month is much more character-based and human.  It’s a more intimate, relatable, and engaging read for these reasons.

Normally, I’m not a fan of books centered on one character’s adventures in another’s mind.  Such comics often end up being strange for strange’s sake, while not carrying the gravitas that a good book should.  That said, I rather enjoyed Scott’s adventures in Emma’s brain.  Largely, this is due to the dynamic between the two characters, but even more so, it’s because Fraction does not attempt to have these abstract psychic adventures fill the entire issue.  We get extended breaks from all the psychic wandering, and as a result, what wandering there is more palatable and the book feels much better paced.  Furthermore, Fraction takes a minimalist approach to Emma’s mind.  It’s big, blank, and full of doppelgangers; the Void’s presence makes it weird and creepy, but Fraction’s restraint keeps it from going off the deep-end.

Meanwhile, Beast’s reappearance in the book’s pages is a welcome, grounded relief and he remains a well-written character.  I also continue to enjoy whenever Fraction treats the logistic difficulties of living on a “floating” asteroid.  His acknowledging the real difficulties of sustained living on such an impossible location make the book feel more intelligent and eases the already massive strain on the suspension of disbelief.

What’s Not So Good: Fraction’s minimalist approach to his depiction of Emma’s mind is a bit double-edged.  While it prevents the book from becoming lost in the wilds of indecipherable abstraction and metaphor, Fraction may very well have taken it a little far in making Emma’s mind nothing but a white blank.  It’s bland and empty and one can’t help but wish Fraction pushed the very able Dodsons a little more.

Also, while the artwork was great, I’m not sure if the opening scene with a Predator X was necessary, given how much was already going on in this book.  It doesn’t help that it’s the only scene not on Utopia and as a result, it feels detached and not at all the sort of introduction or prologue that an opening two pages should be.

Conclusion: A really good issue of Uncanny accompanied by refreshingly vibrant, characterful artwork

I am puzzled by the fact that Shane O’Brien has been sat out for seven straight games, at the time of this writing. We all know that Mathieu Schneider was brought in to quarterback the power play and not for his defensive play nor toughness.

Sure Schneider has four points on two goals (one power play) and two assists but he is also a minus two, while O’Brien is a plus three with no points. Let’s not forget that O’Brien does not play on the power play and was also providing steady play from his position, before Schneider was inserted into the lineup

Also, O’Brien was brought onto the Nucks to provide tough defensive play and there was no offensive expectation.

Hey Mr. Vigneault, how come the two are not rotated, depending on the style of play they face from the opposition?

Schneider is one dimensional, which is his point shot and his first pass out of the Canucks zone and the first pass is no better than O’Brien’s. Schneider’s quickness is not what it used to be, but then again he’s 40 years of age. The slimmed down O’Brien did not appear any slower to me.

Schneider’s slowness seems to be evident in the back to back games, where he is even more prone to giveaways.

Speaking of the giveaways/takeaways ratio, it is pretty close with Schneider at six and five and O’Brien at seven and four. The hits department is very one sided, with O’Brien at 26 and Schneider at eight.

The physical side was never Schneider’s forte and at 5’11’ and 192 lbs, is really undersized to handle the likes of the bigger teams forwards, like the Sharks or Blackhawks. Wait till he meets up with Philadelphia! So Coach, why wasn’t O’Brien playing against the Sharks the other night?

The surprising play of Christian Ehrhoff has made him the number one power play guy that the Canucks were looking for, and with Alex Edler, Kevin Bieksa and Sami Salo, is there really a need for Schneider except as a seventh defenseman?

In closing, does it make sense for the Canucks to keep Mathieu Schneider and his $2.75M cap hit, as a specialist?

So what is it about a fan that brings him or her together, on a united front, with a common purpose?

What does it really look like and how does it feel?

There seems to be no age qualifier, as you will see from infants to great grandparents, which transcends generations.

They seem to speak in a tongue that is recognized by all in attendance, one that is known as “sports”.

They’re all knowledgeable, with some like an encyclopedia, with facts and figures that fly out of their mouths as fast as a computer.

They like to dress up the same and don garments that are similar, with their favourite jerseys and hats or better yet, paint their faces with a number of scenes and colours.

How come when they get together with complete strangers, they converse with them, like they’ve know them for years?

Before the end of the game they’re high-fiving and clinking glasses together like they’ve just found their lost members of their family or they’ve just won the lotto. By the way, what was that guy’s name again in case I run into him next time?

How does all that energy in your favourite drinking establishment or home arena get so charged? Is it like lighting crackling on a still, dry summer night?

The teams have expressed it as a “buzz” in the crowd and for some unknown reason; it becomes a “special night”, one that you can refer to in a New York minute.

Even the team feels it and it’s been called “the extra player”, depending on which sport you’re watching.

This energy, that is so enormous, seems to be able to be transferred from the arena, from your home, in a pub, gathered together in a huge wave within the province or state and transferred down a line, as an electric bolt, that charges the team, too greater heights.

It can happen at any time. At the beginning, middle, or end of the season and most definitely all through the playoffs.

The roar from the conversations going on is about a constant 100 decibel reading and when the home team scores, it’s like you’re standing beside a jet at the airport waiting to take off, it’s that deafening.

There’s people jumping up and down, back slapping, hugging, pounding the bar, clapping and oh yes, “how about another round”!

The bigger the game, the more intense it gets.

The nervousness is very evident and in full bloom. There are people chewing on their swizzle stick, walking back and forth like they’re in the maternity ward, eyes fixated on the action, while some are covering their eyes. “I can’t watch” they say. Hey, isn’t that why we came?

For that short time you’re commonality is one. It’s like you’ve joined this march and everyone is in sync.  You sense, that with all this positive thought in one place, how can we lose?

Ah ha, but the other side can be downright dark. The collective feeling when the home team loses is like the air being sucked out of the whole place. There’s the cursing and wringing of hands, blank looks, some tears actually shed. The silence is eerie.

You’d swear you’re at a wake, and the world has come to an end.

Going home is a silent ride and the replay of the game in your mind never seems to turn off, but the reality is that game has come to an end.

So we deal with it and know that the sun is going to rise the next day and that you’ll be back, because when you put it into perspective, who didn’t enjoy themselves!

But the most important part…is that it felt so good to be a part of it all, and one big raucos family.

The Story: The X-Men attempt to stave off the Predator X attack.

What’s Good: This is an action comic, pure and simple and in that capacity, it delivers; it’s big, bloody, and explosive.

Better still, Matt Fraction makes the most of the fact that it’s a team based action comic.  One really gets a sense of strategy in the X-Men’s dealing with the Predator Xs.  Abilities are used in perfect concert and the X-Men feel like a well-trained, well-oiled machine.  Multi-level, cooperative strategy is employed as the mutants essentially combine and chain each other’s abilities in a sort of cooperative harmony that was clearly quite well thought out by Fraction.

Taking this perhaps a little more literally is Fraction’s use of Rogue.  He uses her power absorption ability to synchronize X-Men mutant abilities, allowing him to essentially play a cool and creative game of mix and match with mutant powers.

While action-based, the issue is nonetheless not without development.  A very interesting Phoenix-related occurrence happens with respect to the Cuckoos that is foreboding and is sure to pay dividends at a later date.  Furthermore, the last page of the book is similarly intriguing, as we get a look at Danger’s idea of a prison.  Those who have read William Gibson’s foundational cyberpunk novel ”Neuromancer” will probably get a kick out of the scene.

On art, Greg Land actually acquits himself quite well, particularly for his often-weak standards.  While certain female faces do lack detail or appear a little awkwardly photo-referenced, there aren’t any real catastrophes this month.  Compliments are due, however, for Land’s drawings of the Predator X monstrosities, which look horrifyingly savage and distinctly alien.  That last page with Danger was also quite beautiful.

What’s Not So Good: While the use of teamwork in harmonizing abilities and employing strategy was impressive, that doesn’t change the fact that this is just one big, extended action scene across 21 pages.  In other words, it’s hard not read this without realizing that while you’re entertained, the book nonetheless feels strangely hollow, shallow even.  Indeed, this is mainstream comics at its most popcorn superficial, the sort of book that the indie comic fan no doubt points to in horror.  That doesn’t mean it’s bad, but it also means that the book doesn’t summon any sort of emotion beyond the base-level amusement that comes with reading a good action scene.  It’s not a smart read in the slightest, nor is it a dense one, though it is enjoyable for what it is.

Also, some of Fraction’s voices are still off.   He struggles with Rogue’s colloquial accent, for starters.  At times it disappears altogether or is at least very minimal, while at other times, she sounds like a painfully exaggerated hillbilly.  Fraction can’t seem to find a middle ground, nor can he find consistency.

Magneto’s voice also feels problematic this month and reminds me of Fraction’s struggles to write Xavier’s voice in past issues.  At times, Magneto just sounds too young, hip, and catchy, particularly with his battle banter.  Worse still, in a later scene, he goes back to the more aged, formal tone we saw last month.  Like Rogue, not only is the voice problematic in itself, but it also lacks consistency.

Conclusion: Enjoyable for what it is, this issue still feels a little thin due to its not striving to be anything more.

El modelo Iceman fue creado por Ibanez allá por los años 60-70. En aquella época el reinado de Fender y Gibson se vió amenazado por la oleada de guitarras japonesas que hacían copias de los modelos más famosos de las marcas citadas. Fue entonces cuando las empresas norteamericanas decidieron demandar a la japonesa Hoshino Gakki (empresa madre de Ibanez y Tama) y se vio forzada a cambiar sus diseños. Uno de los resultados de estos cambios en los diseños fue el modelo Iceman.

Este cuerpo se caracteriza por su agresiva forma y ligero peso. Hoy en día se construyen una gran variedad de modelos Iceman, tanto guitarras como bajos. Sobre éstos bajos cabe decir que hay una descompensación entre el peso del cuerpo y del mastil, de manera que éste último es más pesado que el cuerpo y hace que el instrumento se gire, lo cual hace que sea bastante incómodo de tocar (algunos usuarios de guitarras con forma SG sabrán a lo que me refiero). Personalmente no recomiendo los modelos Iceman en bajo a no ser que sea el modelo signature del bajista de Arch Enemy, Sharlee D’Angelo, cuyo Iceman tiene este problema arreglado.

Paul Stanley (guitarrista de la famosa banda de rock Kiss) fue uno de los primeros artistas con renombre en usar el modelo, y fue en parte gracias a él que las guitarras Iceman consiguieran la fama que tuvieron y tienen hoy en día. Pero ha habido otros guitarristas que han hecho de la Iceman su instrumento favorito como por ejemplo Daron Malakian de System of a Down.

It had been a pretty long while since I started expecting the sequel to Marvel Ultimate Alliance (2006) sequel and finally, I have got it and finished the game twice. It is a bit odd, because I had really expected much more from this game and at the end, it kinda feels like a dissapointment. Because of my console, the version I will talk about is the Wii version of the game.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, previously known also as Fusion, basically follows the same path of the original game in terms of gameplay. Up to four players can join during anytime of the game, choosing 4 characters among 26 playable Marvel heroes and villains and overcoming each obstacle on their way. One of the new aspects of the game is the fact that now, thanks to the fusion power the characters are able to combine their powers, realeasing a powerful blast of mixed abilities. This new feature, apart from the story, are the only new attractions of the game, so we can say there’s a bit lack of originality.

The characters have improved in a lot of aspects, specially the visual one, but surely fans of the previous game will be struck by the fact of not having really new superpowers. Indeed, almost all the attacks of the first game have come back, with the exception of few that were changed, into something a little bit better, or something even worse. Teamwork is still the same, and the enemy’s level of intelligence becomesa challenge in some moments of the game, but there’s nothing really splendorous. Expectations about the new characters like Jean Grey, Penance, Psylocke, etc. fade quickly, as you realize some are the obvious replacement of the ones in the first game that didn’t enter in this second round (like Psylocke, who is basically Elektra). Some others continue being as good as they were, and pretty few have become really stronger.

The game’s plot follows the Civil War story, on which the heroes have to choose between accepting the Act of Registration from the Government, or not. Depending on what you choose, some characters will be available or not, and missions will change, according to the story you’re playing. Nevertheless, the way the plot is told becomes sometimes quite boring, and you just skip the info in order to start playing the missions. The S.H.I.E.L.D. blue points, where you save your progress and change your team are now spread in not very useful locations, unlike the previous game, and you can’t change characters who have died in battle anymore. You have to bring them back to life using the Fusion, and in the Wii version, there are no costumes for the characters. 

Bosses have a balanced level, and the locations, although they are not as exotic as in the prequel, are now made with more detail, giving the game a pleasant visual effect. Missions have become shorter in lenght and not very dinamic in some moments. A good improvement from the first Wii version is that the Wii Remote Control is now more enjoyable without being an irritating feature. Attacks are not made by the control’s movement anymore, and isntead, it is required only in specific actions.

So, in general, MUA2 it’s the same game as the first one with some improvements but no really outstanding feature, a story that can be sometimes hateful, and cool characters that still, have something which doesn’t really fit at all. A good avergae game, but the first one is really missed by the player while he plays this one.

So, here’s a list of all the playable Wii characters, with a brief opinion of mine (based on my playing with them), and more images. Leave your comments as you wish!

1.- Captain America: He’s basically the same as in the first game, and his attacks are overpowered by most of all the other characters. A shield is not very useful, really… Grade: Useful in some moments.

2.- Iron Man: With some new improvements, Stark’s armor is not only a reliable backup, but also quite an offensive fighter. He’s not only powerful but also resistant. Grade: Essential for victory!

3.- Thor: The mighty Nordic God might not seem trustful in this game, but hides great power in his hammer. Strong and offensive, clearly a great choice. Grade: Good choice!

4.- Hulk: This new ally it’s powerful by nature. His only “but” is that he requires “rage” for some of his attacks, but it’s a good companion in rooms full of enemies… Grade: Good choice!

5.- Spiderman: The web-head neighbour it’s the master of agility, and along with his spider powers becomes a useful tool whether for running away, or fighting multiple enemies at a time… Grade: Essential for victory!

6.- Mr. Fantastic: Thanks to his elastic powers, he can reach enemies that are not close to him, but his physical power from the last game, went from 5 to 2 so think about it… Grade: Not the best, not the worst.

7.- Invisible Woman: Susan’s powers have increased from 5, to extra 5, becoming quite a good heroine to play with. Not only will she protect her mates using big shields, but also her “fusion” abilities end up with massive destruction! Grade: Essential for victory!

8.- Human Torch: Johnny’s fire power is strong, and used in a proper way, becomes destructive, besides, his combinations with the other heroes always result in total blast, surely, one hell of a flame! Grade: Good choice!

9.- The Thing: Ben’s physical power it’s the same, but unlike the first game, he’s a little bit faster. This allows him to act like a big bull enemies can’t run from!!! Grade: Good choice!

10.- Wolverine: The iconic X-Man, remains the same as in the prequel, but his lack of power is far more visible. It’s not a good idea to use metal claws against metal armors… Grade: Useful in some moments.

11.- Storm: Storm’s lightnings are a good weapon when a lot of enemies surround you, but… apart from that she has nothing really good to add, except (maybe…) her fusion compability… Grade: Useful in some moments.

12.- Cyclops: This new player seems to have a poor gameplay, but his optical powers ban that statement and make him a good mate rivals can’t deal with. Grade: Good choice!

13.- Jean Grey: She’s probably one of the best newcomers to the game. Not only can she revive with her powers, but also ask her Phoenix’s soul for help and play with telekinesis as if she were playing with dolls. Grade: Essential for victory!

14.- Iceman: Basically the same as always, Iceman icy powers are useful for freezing enemies once and for all, trapping them in what can become a massive punching bag. Fast, agile, and a good shooter… what else do you ask? Grade: Good choice!

15.- Gambit: Another newcomer who impresses with her explosive cards. His shooting ability is stunning, and more when his cards fly everywhere without even aiming at an enemy! Grade: Good choice!

16.- Psylocke: This lady’s pink powers are not very realiable and you’d prefer to take Jean instead of her. Her pink blade is probably a good weapon, along her butteflies, but she’s not the latest warrior… Grade: Useful in some moments.

17.- Deadpool: This mercenary is everything but rubbish. He shoots as fast as you blink your eyes, teleports, jumps, throws granades and starts the massive attacks as fast as he says: “Hello!” His resistance and health powers… make him the perfect back-up. Grade: Essential for victory.

18.- Daredevil: Not a very impressive character, Daredevil shows us agile movements and baton-based hits. Nothing really amazing. Grade: Not the best, not the worst.

19.- Songbird: Another newcomer who seems to offer a lot, but at the end is just another normal mutant. Her sonic powers are only impressive when the fusion is made. A bad point: she can’t attack while she flies… Grade: Not the best, not the worst.

20.- Blade: The old vampire hunter was weak and this new version of him… is still weak. Surrounded by all the other mutants, he barely even disappears among them. Some attacks have become stronger, and the gunshot is probbaly his best feature. Grade: Useful in some moments.

21.- Ms. Marvel: We still wonder why did she return. She’s not amazing and her attacks do a damage level of mediocrity. The only plus is that she’s strong, but in that case… better take Hulk or the Thing. Grade: Stay at the base.

22.- Penance: This mysterious guy doens’t seem to be strong or physically impressive, although visually, he is. Has energy attacks based in getting pain, but his really strong point is the “fusion” move, that ends up sometimes in total destruction. Grade: Not the best, not the worst.

23.- Luke Cage: This warrior is anything but spectacular. Maybe his fists against the ground are something but aparte from that… the chain, the punch… just don’t really work. Grade: Stay at the base.

24.- Venom: One of the two villains available, Venom it’s one of the best newcomers. His slow melee moves are compensed by really good attackas using his symbiotic abilites, which are able to drain enemy’s life in less that 1 minute! Grotesque, sometimes is the best… Grade: Essential for victory!

25.- Green Goblin: The explosive pumpkins he throws make up for his lack of physical damage. Basically that’s all he does… oh, did I mention he launches missiles? Grade: Not the best, not the worst.

26.- Nanyte Nick Fury: This android version of Nick Fury is strong, and has some good attacks… but he’s lack of visual compability with the rest of heroes, makes him a little odd. Apart from that… his sniper rifle deserves some views. Grade: Not the best, not thw worst.

We do feel sometimes the need of using Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Moonknight or Colossus right? Hahaha… among all the mentioned, who’s your favorite???

ATENCIÓN: VIOLENCIA EXTREMA EXPLÍCITA

Richard se quedaba muchas noches en el trabajo. Como técnico de laboratorio se pasaba las noches pirateando películas pornográficas para la mafia. Los otros empleados se quejaron al sindicato, porque Richard se quedaba las horas extras. Conocía los trapos sucios de sus jefes, y los utilizaba en su favor. Además, Richard y sus clientes, los Gambino, eran muy lucrativos para la empresa. Richard cerró y ya se iba para casa cuando se le acercó el tipo del sindicato. Se presentó y dijo sus razones: tus compañeros se han quejado. Mis compañeros no quieren esas horas. Dijo Richard, y continuó caminando. El tipo le puso una mano en el hombro, y Richard se giró y descargó un puñetazo brutal a la cabeza del enlace, que cayó como un saco. Se golpeó la nuca contra un banco del parque y quedó ahí. Richard nunca supo si le mató el puñetazo o el golpe en la nuca. Fue a comprar cuerda y ahorcó el cadáver en un parque cercano. Preparó una escena de suicidio y nunca volvió a saber nada del tipo. La policía molestó a la banda local unos días, y el crimen quedó sin resolver.

El hermano de Richard, Joseph Kuklinski, se metía en líos contínuamente, cada vez más gordos. Richard le ayudaba si podía, pero un día, Joseph fue demasiado lejos, incluso para Richard: Joseph violó y mató a una niña de catorce años. También al perrito de ella. Richard se cercioró de la verdad y no volvió a tener contacto con su hermano. Kuklinski despreciaba a los violadores, más aún a los violadores de niños. Para él, el sexo era cosa entre marido y mujer. Nunca fue con prostitutas, ni veía con buenos ojos el negocio del porno.  Sí iba, a veces, a un local de Strip-tease de la zona, en el cambio de turnos, antes de encerrarse en el laboratorio a una maratoniana sesión de pirateo múltiple.

Una noche, Richard se acercó al local de strip-tease. Dijo algo que molestó a una bailarina, y tuvo un rifirrafe con el barman. En mitad de la discusión, el portero le pegó un puñetazo. Richard se fue de allí mascando la venganza. Planeó cuidadosamente la muerte del portero. Tres días después, dejó una ropa escondida en un lugar cercano, se acercó al portero del local desde la acera y le disparó en la cabeza con un 22. Se alejó, se cambió de ropa, se deshizo del arma y volvió al laboratorio. De paso, se detuvo a mirar, entre la muchedumbre de curiosos, el levantamiento de los cadáveres, con toda la policía acordonando el lugar. Luego, se fue a trabajar, mucho más relajado.

Había vuelto el asesino frío, el Dios que manejaba la vida y la muerte. Richard comprendió que debía sacar provecho de su habilidad para el homicidio y se postuló por todo Hoboken.

En aquellos días se reconvirtió en productor de cine porno. Pasó del pirateo a la distribución, y dejó el laboratorio. Y con el tiempo, contrató él mismo a los productores, dependiendo de la demanda.  Nunca iba a ver los rodajes, a Richard el porno le parecía algo sucio. Legal, pero sucio. Y muy rentable. Sin embargo, el dinero que Richard invirtió al principio, era de la mafia, y Richard tuvo muchos problemas para pagar la deuda.

Un día, se presentó un cobrador, Roy de Meo. Uno de los tipos más sanguinarios de la historia de la mafia. De Meo y otros cuantos rodearon a Richard y le pegaron una paliza. Richard pagó poco después. Se acercó al local de De Meo y preguntó por él. Kuklinski el humilde y dialogante salió a flote, y ambos acordaron hacer negocios en el futuro. Richard había encontrado en De Meo un contacto inmejorable para ampliar negocio. Por supuesto, planeaba vengarse. Pero ya tendría tiempo de matarle. Ahora podía abrirle mercado.

Y así fué. Los negocios del porno prosperaron entre ambos, y Richard creció socialmente. De Meo se enteró de que Richard era un frío asesino, y de fiar, y le propuso pasar a hacer trabajos especiales. Richard aceptó, y acto seguido, Roy de Meo, su primo y Kuklinski, se fueron en coche a merodear a otra zona de la ciudad. Vieron a un tipo paseando a su perro y Roy dijo: mata a ese. Dio una pistola a Richard, que se acercó por detrás y disparó en la nuca del tipo, que quedó tendido en el suelo. Roy quedó impresionado. -Joder, eres de hielo, tío. Eres de los nuestros.

Y Roy le presentó a sus hombres: un batallón de asesinos en serie a sueldo de la mafia. A Richard no le gustó aquella cuadrilla. Le incomodaba especialmente Drácula, el primo de De Meo. No eran respetuosos con él, y no se fiaba de ellos. Mientras jugaban al póker, la noche que los conoció, tenían en la ducha, colgado de un gancho, un cadáver desangrándose. Roy supo que Richard no haría buenas migas con los chicos, y le propuso ser su arma secreta.

Vino, en ésta época, Dwayne, el tercer hijo de Barbara y Richard. El primer varón. Años después, los tests de inteligencia le declararían superdotado. Pero, en ámbitos más prácticos, las cosas nunca irían bien en casa. Al menos, económicamente, Richard siempre se portó bien. Sin embargo, en cuanto a la violencia, Richard se recrudecía con el tiempo. Concentraba sus iras en Barbara y el mobiliario. Richard era una bestia. A veces, se golpeaba la cabeza contra las paredes hasta quedar sin sentido, para no matar a su mujer o dañar a las niñas. Sus arranques de ira eran temibles. Un día tiró por la ventana un mueble que habían tenido que subir entre cuatro tipos. La fuerza de Richard era sobrehumana, podía levantar una nevera sin esfuerzo, si estaba lo suficientemente cabreado. Destrozaba tabiques, puertas, y también golpeaba a su mujer. Era el terror personificado. Incluso en los momentos felices, la sorda amenaza de que en cualquier momento, el humor de Richard podía quebrarse en ira, hizo que su familia viviera en contínua tensión, si Richard estaba con ellos.

Para bien o para mal, Richard trabajaba mucho. De Meo le encargó a un tipo. -Cuidado, va armado- le dijo alargándole un sobre con 20.000 dólares. Richard acechó a su víctima varios días. La imagen de Richard acechando pacientemente a su víctima, provisto de sandwiches de pavo y pan de centeno, se repetiría muchas veces. En éste caso, Richard esperó a su víctima fuera de una casa de comidas. Le pinchó una rueda y esperó. El tipo salió, vio el pinchazo y abrió el maletero. Richard encañonó al tipo, lo ató y amordazó y lo metió en el maletero. Condujo hasta una mina abandonada e hizo caminar al tipo hasta el borde de un pozo. Le disparó en la cabeza, y el cadáver cayó al profundo pozo. Condujo de vuelta, se desizo del arma, cenó en casa.

De Meo volvió a humillar a Richard. Una noche en su local, Roy encañonó a Richard con una UZI delante de sus asesinos. De Meo era un loco descontrolado, y era muy paranóico. Completamente imprevisible. Richard supo mantenerse frío y manejó la situación, pero juró para sus adentros que un día mataría a De Meo.

Su eficacia hizo correr la voz, y Richard realizó trabajos especiales para todas las familias de la mafia. Era silencioso, no hacía preguntas, y sus trabajos eran impecables. Pronto amplió contactos y empezó a acumular armas. Su nombre empezaba a ser una referencia como hitman en el crimen organizado.

Dentro del Proyecto de Liberty Cove (Puerto Libertad) en Sonora, se pretende que junto al complejo se contruya una Pista de Carreras de Formula 1, informacion al respecto aqui.

Una firma estadunidense de bienes raíces tiene en proyecto crear un balneario de clase mundial con un potencial similar o mayor al de Cancún en las playas mexicanas de Sonora, sobre el Mar de Cortés, a corta distancia de Estados Unidos.

El lugar se ubica en pleno desierto de Sonora y frente a uno de los mares mas limpios y de mayor riqueza submarina del mundo.

El desarrollo albergaría además, como marca distintiva y principal herramienta de comercialización alrededor del mundo, una pista de carreras Fórmula Uno que se inscribiría en los circuitos del automovilismo internacional como el “Mónaco de Las Américas”.

Ya las primeras fases del proyecto estan en construccion desde el año antepaso aunque han reducido su velocidad por los acontecimientos en cascada de la crisis mundial, esperemos dentro de poco retomen el ahinco que tenian.

Y a proposito de ello, no puedo dejar de hablar de este deporte que me fascina y que he seguido con fervor desde que Mikka Hakkinen consigio sus campeonatos en las flechas plateadas de McLaren, ahora ferviente seguido al igual que varios cientos de miles del otro finlandes volador Kimmi Raikkonen conocido en el paddok como el Hombre de Hielo (ICEMAN), por su caracter tan inmutable, alejado del circo de la formula 1, un irreverente y rebelde pero sobre todo por el mas rapido de la parrilla con la mas mala suerte del mundo.

La verdad sobre Kimi Räikkönen

Termina la temporada de Formula 1 y el piloto más rápido se ha quedado sin asiento. Ferrari ha despedido a Kimi Räikönen (Espoo, Finlandia, 1979). McLaren o pasarse a los rallies no son la única opción, también está no hacer nada: “Puedo si quiero. Puedo hacer lo que quiera, pero aún no he tomado mi decisión sobre qué quiero hacer”.

Kimi es el piloto maldito. El tercer piloto de la historia que más vueltas rápidas ha conseguido, por detrás de Michael Shumacher y Alain Prost. Pese a haber ganado sólo un mundial nadie discute la calidad de Räikkönen y lo sobrenatural es un recurso habitual entre quienes somos fans para justificar lo bueno y también lo malo. Asumimos que es un piloto perdedor con la misma fuerza que creemos en su talento. Además de su épica en la pista, Räikkönen seduce por su caracter, impasible a casi todo.

Durante varios meses fue el mejor piloto del campeonato, encadenó varios podios consecutivos cuando más se le criticaba. Ganó en Spa. Dice Joan Villadelprat que los equipos saben qué piloto tienen por cómo corre en Spa. Kimi ha ganado cuatro de las cinco últimas carreras en el circuito belga. En la carrera siguiente en Monza le preguntaron si estaba contento por haber ganado la semana anterior: “Una victoria no me cambia la vida. ¿Es más fácil la vida cuando ganas? No lo creo. Y si me ves un poco más contento, créeme, hay muchas otras razones para ser feliz que ganar una carrera”.

En el suplemento Hombre de El País Semanal del 11 de octubre (Kimi contra todos), Quino Petit explica que Räikkönen “vive en una permanente huida. En la pista, desde luego, y también fuera de ella. Está claro que corre como si le fueran siguiendo. Pero también parece escapar de todo lo que le rodea. Esquivo, reservado y juerguista, lleva tatuado su apodo en el brazo izquierdo, Iceman. Ha cumplido 30 años. Amante de las saunas, el vodka, los grupos de música finlandesa y el hockey sobre hielo”. El periodista cita a su ingeniero de pista, Andrea Stella:

En comparación Schumacher era más dialéctico. Kimi trabaja más su intuición; con él no necesitas discutir tanto. Lo que el alemán contaba en diez palabras, Kimi lo resume en una. (…) No le hace falta ser político. Räikkönen no siente la necesidad de tener que convencer a nadie de lo que es.

Según Stefano Domenicalli, director del equipo: “Kimi es el mejor en términos de talento que nunca he visto en 20 años”, para Marc Gené “tiene el mayor talento natural de toda la parrilla de Fórmula 1″. Jean Todt y Michael Schumacher fueron sus valedores para fichar por la escudería que le ha echado. Alonso ha comentado en varias ocasiones que es su mayor rival. Ahora está solo, y su asiento lo ocupará el asturiano.

Que decir de esta Carrera en en el Gran Premio de Suzuka en Japon del 2009, su increible remontada desde el final de la parrilla y arrebatando el Primer Lugar en la ultima vuelta, metiendose a lo salvaje en la curva, a Fischiquela no le quedo otra de meter freno.

Ha sido uno de los pilotos más criticados. Sobre su afición a la bebida responde: “Bebo ahora como lo hacía cuando gané el campeonato, no veo por qué tiene que ser diferente”. Es el único corredor que no forma parte de la Asociación de Pilotos.

Kimi debutó en Fórmula 1 después de correr sólo 23 carreras con un monoplaza. Tras su éxito en la Fórmula Renault, Peter Sauber consiguió que le dieran la superlicencia para correr con su equipo. En su primer gran premio, Australia 2001, donde también debutaba Fernando Alonso, terminó sexto y consiguió sus primeros puntos. Media hora antes de la carrera estaba durmiendo. Aquella temporada Sauber finalizó cuarto el campeonato de constructores, su mejor resultado, Kimi compartía equipo con Nick Heidfield.

En 2002 ficha por Mclaren sustituyendo al doble campeón del mundo, también finlandés, Mikka Hakkinen. En su primera carrera a las órdenes de Ron Dennis finalizó tercero. En el Gran Premio de Francia, Kimi estuvo a punto de ganar por primera vez, pero pocas vueltas antes del final derrapó sobre una mancha de aceite de otro coche y Schumacher le adelantó. Terminó la temporada en sexta posición, por detrás de su compañero David Coulthard.

2003 fue el año de su lucha con Michael Schumacher. En la primera carrera de la temporada salió en quinceava posición y finalizó tercero, con fallo eléctrico y penalización incluidos. Mandó a Schumacher a la hierba en una lucha rueda a rueda, poniendo fin a una racha de diecinueve podios consecutivos del alemán. Aquel año fue subcampeón del mundo a sólo dos puntos de Schumacher. Fernando Alonso batió al Kaiser dos años después.

2004 fue un desastre, McLaren sólo consiguió una victoria en toda la temporada con su MP4-19/B, fue en el circuito belga de Spa. Kimi se retiró en ocho de las dieciocho carreras.

El arranque de 2005 fue complicado por problemas con los neumáticos y la fiabilidad del Mclaren. Durante la temporada, en tres ocasiones se retiró por problemas mecánicos cuando era líder, esas tres carreras las ganó Alonso.

Aún así fue el piloto con más victorias, siete. Volvió a ser subcampeón del mundo, en esta ocasión detrás de Alonso.

La prensa inglesa entendía que era el mejor piloto, y la española, encabezada por Antonio Lobato, que era un rompecoches. España enloquecía con el primer título de Alonso. Las revistas F1 Racing y Autosport premiaron a Räikkönen como el mejor piloto del año.

En 2006 no ganó ninguna carrera y se retiró en seis. Terminó quinto en la clasificación de pilotos, Alonso ganó el Mundial y Schumacher anunció su retirada. Ferrari fichó a Kimi. Aquel año protagonizó esta salida en Montmeló, adelantando a cuatro coches antes de la primera curva:

En su primera carrera con Ferrari en la temporada 2007 consiguió pole, vuelta rápida y victoria. “A diez vueltas del final ­casi me duermo. Me distraje, mi nivel de concentración bajó un poco y tomé la curva tres demasiado abierto”. Bajo la dirección de Jean Todt (artífice de los cinco mundiales de Schumacher en Ferrari) fue campeón del mundo en la última carrera por un punto, gracias a su compañero Felipe Massa (que cedió su posición) y al desencuentro de Alonso y Hamilton en Mclaren:

A Ferrari le gusta que sus pilotos cumplan las órdenes de la misma manera que a Räikkönen le encanta delegar cuantas cosas puedan limitar su pasión por correr. Apenas hay dudas de que se trata del piloto más rápido en carrera porque no hace concesiones al coche. La alianza entre Ferrari y Räikkönen ha resultado celestial ante la pugna entre Alonso y Lewis Hamilton, neutralizados ambos, el uno por exceso de enemigos y el otro por tener demasiados amigos. Stefano Domenicalli sustituyó a Jean Todt como director de Ferrari en 2008. Los errores de equipo fueron constantes. Niki Lauda, ex-campeón del mundo con Ferrari comparó la situación del equipo con la que tenía Schumacher: “Ross Brawn, al ser inglés, fue el enlace ideal entre la cultura de los italianos y Schumacher, que brindó su eficacia alemana. Ahora los italianos han asumido todo el protagonismo y la cosa no funciona. Podríamos hablar de caos. Ese es el problema”.

Fue un año frustrante para Kimi, casi siempre detrás de Massa, que a su vez perseguía a Hamilton, ganador del mundial. En el Gran Premio de Singapur Räikönnen salió tercero por detrás de Massa y Hamilton. En la vuelta 14, Nelsinho Piquet provocó un accidente para beneficiar a Fernando Alonso con la salida de un Safety Car. Los dos Ferrari aprovecharon para entrar a repostar. Kimi tuvo que esperar a que Massa finalizara, y cuando lo hizo arrancó con la manguera del fuel enganchada, perjudicando todavía más a Räikkönen. Kimi volvió a pista perdiendo doce posiciones. Remontó hasta la quinta, consiguió su décima vuelta rápida de la temporada, golpeó en el muro, y se retiró.

Shadowless09 explica cómo tomó esta fotografía: “The car stopped right in front of me at turn 11/12 after crashing at turn 10. It just feel so sad… Kimi just sat there and waited for it to be over. Was kind of hoping that he would win this round but it’s just not happening”.

Una temporada después Ferrari anuncia que sustituye a Räikkönen por Alonso, coincidiendo con la entrada del Banco de Santander como patrocinador de la Scuderia.

2009 ha sido el peor año para muchos espectadores de la Fórmula 1. Culpa de los escándalos, las guerras internas y un reglamento difuso que supo aprovechar el más listo, Ross Brawn, para que Jenson Button, un piloto al mismo nivel que media parrilla, ganara el mundial. Pero escándalos, favoritismos y reglamentos que bailan ha habido siempre, aunque quizás nunca tan evidentes como este año.

Es probable que Schumacher no hubiera ganado tantos mundiales si Ferrari no hubiese sido la niña mimada, ni Alonso habría ganado sin Michelin, como Button sin el doble difusor. Kimi ganó su mundial porque fue menos malo o menos tonto que la pareja Alonso-Hamilton, y porque tuvo la suerte que nunca ha tenido. Kimi podría llevar tres o cuatro mundiales, como Alonso, Hamilton, Massa, y los que vengan, sólo hay que intercambiar pilotos y escuderías en función de la temporada para obtener una combinación ganadora, y mientras nos entretenemos.

Me gusta Kimi porque es diferente a todos los demás, porque es una fuente inagotable de gags, porque no critica, no echa la culpa a otros, va a lo suyo, es el más rápido, tiene todo el talento y la peor suerte, y porque parece que todo el peso del mundo cae sobre sus hombros cuando en realidad piensa en un helado de chocolate. Quizás ayer fue su última carrera en la Formula 1. No le quitará el sueño, seguro.

With the success of the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Marvel has been releasing several one-shot issues of X-Men Origins. Each issue focuses on one mutant telling their background and letting us know how they made their way to the X-Men.

With enjoyable stories and handsome artwork, I definitely recommend this series for both newbies and comic veterans! If your looking to collect them all, there is a trade which has just recently been released collecting the origins of Colossus, Jean Grey, Beast, Wolverine, Sabretooth and Gambit. The Iceman comic is in stores now and the Cyclops comic will be released in January. I can’t wait to see who they choose to focus on in upcoming issues.

Vi har vel allerede fått konstatert det faktum at Dødens Gård-saken er så forbannet forvirrende at den i grunn irriterer mer enn den underholder, men verden vil tydeligvis ikke at den altoppslukende bewildermenten skal begrenses til et hull av en gård i Søndre Land. Det siste døgnet har jeg nemlig merket meg at en fort kan komme til å snuble over uforståeligheter de aller fleste steder, noe som kanskje er aller mest åpenbart dersom en saumfarer ulike nettaviser. Dagens nyhet om at en jente i Trondheim ble voldtatt av fire menn på et dansegulv mens andre mennesker svingte seg rundt dem er et godt eksempel i så måte. Her er det så mye forvirring på så mange plan at jeg ikke riktig vet hvor jeg skal starte, & jeg føler derfor at jeg kan derfor nøye meg med å si: HAR DERE IKKE ØYNE, MENNESKER!?

En annen nyhet som i grunn også kan både forbause & forvirre, er nyheten om at en mann fikk bitt av halve øret av en vampyr i Grimstad denne helgen. Politiet har opplyst at gjerningsmannen var iført vampyrkostyme & en heksehatt med bred brem, samt at han — merkelig nok — gikk i bar overkropp. Dette vesenet spradet tvers over gulvet til en intetanende 23-åring som stod i baren & følte tydeligvis for å gnafse litt på duden. Altså, det er mulig jeg henger meg opp i feil del av saken her, men hvordan kan en fyr være ikledd vampyrkostyme når han er iført en heksehatt med bred brem og gikk i baris? Det er jo selvsagt også besynderlig at denne krabaten med ett skulle få et innfall om å ta en Mike Tyson på en fullstendig fremmed mann — for vampyrer biter jo på nakken?

På fredag var jeg på fylla med mine amigos i Unge Høyre & akkurat dét har også resultert i en smule forvirrelse. Utover kvelden havnet følget på nachspiel hos Larsiboy & guttene som sender fyllameldinger fra danskebåten, hvor det var god stemning. Her må jeg bare skyte inn at nachspiel har en ganske kortfattet, men artig wikipedia-side  hvor det blant annet står skrevet svart på hvitt at:

“Et nachspiel varer ofte mellom 3:00 og 6:00^{[trenger referanse]}, men kan også vare til langt på dag neste dag^{[trenger referanse]“}

Det var jo i grunn veldig detaljert, men litt forvirrende. Nøyaktig hva er “langt på dag neste dag?”.

“Hva er klokken nå?”

“Den er 02:50″

“Åh, OK. Da blir det nachspiel om 10 som skal vare til langt på dag neste dag”

Men nok om dét. Sånn i 05:30-tiden, altså like før nachspielet var over ifølge en eller annen nerd som har lekt seg på wikipedia, følte Benedicte, Patrick & jeg for litt sushi. Dette vakre trekløveret sprang derfor ned de røde trappene i Casa del Bogstadveien iført Lars sine pensko, Lars sine litt mindre pensko & Patricks røde tøfler. Vel fremme på Deli lo jeg så kraftig av noe jeg ikke riktig husker at mannen bak kassen ble stående å se rart på meg. På veien ut tok jeg et bilde av noe jeg husker vi hadde en samtale om, men når jeg ser dette bildet i ettertid aner jeg virkelig ikke hva jeg tenkte på da det ble tatt.

Altså --- det er jo et bilvindu, men...?

Nå skjøt Benedicte inn på Fjesboken at:

“Vi ble enige at det var et fritzel-bord og at det var en voldtektsbil Jeg tror til og med jeg var redd.”

Om dette stemmer eller ei, husker jeg ærlig talt ikke.

I dag så jeg Rocky IV hos Øyvind & jeg forelsket meg veldig i den snasne russeren Øyvind sa var tysk, men som Vincent senere påpekte at var en svenske ved navn Dolph Lundgren — og allerede her kan en jo lukte forvirrelse. Nå hører det med til historien at Vincent tidligere har sendt meg flere videoer av Dolph uten at jeg har fått med meg at kjekkasen spiller i Rocky IV. Svenske eller ei, jeg ble nokså fascinert av dette dyret — mye fordi han minner en del om Nazi-Per. Her snakker vi ikke om karakteren til Otto Jespersen, men en heit fyr jeg falt litt for da jeg så ham i James Bond. Det var derfor ingen overraskelse å lese på wikipedia at Lundgren har spilt i A View to a Kill. Plutselig var altså Nazi-Per ikke lenger Nazi-Per, men en russertyskersvenske som veksler på å være ond i henholdsvis James Bond & i Rocky. I løpet av et par minutter måtte jeg dermed fordøye at tre personer i realiteten er én person — og at han ikke er hverken russer eller tysker, men svenske. Det høres kanskje simpelt ut for enkelte, men dét å skulle fordøye såpass mye informasjon på kort tid var rett & slett litt i overkant for min vesle hjerne. Men så er det jo dette med at jeg har begynt å legge meg til den vane at jeg dobbelt-googler ting i blant fordi jeg har innsett at jeg har en tendens til å misforstå mye. Og har jeg faen meg ikke gjort akkurat dét denne gangen også? JO, for helvette.

Det oppstår alltid en feilkobling i forbindelse med A View to a Kill for min del — da fordi jeg ikke klarer å banke inn i hodet at det er Roger Moore som opptrer som Bond i denne filmen. Jeg tror alltid det er Dalton som er 007 i AVTAK — noe som i og for seg er litt trist ettersom Dalton er min favoritt-Bond. Uansett, Dolph spilte i denne filmen og fordi det “er en Dalton-film” tok jeg det derfor for god fisk at Nazi-Per er Dolph Lundgren. Men det er han ikke. Er du også forvirret nå? La oss ta det sakte herfra.

Det lille jeg husket om denne lekre Nazi-Per, er at han spiller en gal obersts hitman i én av de to Dalton-filmene. Jeg så meg derfor nødt til å sende en melding til min onkel — som er ruttesen når det gjelder film — for å komme til bunns i hvor en finner denne ville obersten som leker med en togbane. Onkel svarte at duden er skurk i The Living Daylights, og jeg gikk derfor på imdb.com for å finne det egentlige navnet til mannen som spiller Nazi-Per. Der fant jeg ut at mannen i virkeligheten heter Andreas Wisniewski & denne Wisi-whatnot faktisk er tysker — altså er han i grunn nærmere å være Nazi-Per enn Dolph. Eller kanskje ikke? Svensker med blå øyne og hvitbleket piggsveis — mye som minner om Nazi-Tyskland der altså. Under har jeg lagt ved bilde av henholdsvis Nazi-Per i Rocky IV og Nazi-Per i The Living Daylights. De er tydeligvis ikke én og samme person likevel, men faen så heite de begge er. Gutter i baris, med bleket hår i 80-tallsfilmer har tydeligvis draget på meg — og det kommer derfor neppe som noen overraskelse at Iceman er en soleklar favoritt. Jeg skjønner veldig lite av hvem som er hvem akkurat nå, og om jeg kanskje har misforstått enda mer enn jeg selv tror, men jeg sier meg uansett fornøyd med dagens googling & nøyer meg med å se på fine bilder av de ulike Nazi-Per’ene. Jeg må nok bare innse én gang for alle at jeg lever i en konstant forvirret tilstand.

Well, thank you very much Andrew Raycroft. After writing a glowing report of his play yesterday, he goes out and allows four goals on 22 shots against the Anaheim Ducks.

All the attributes that I commented on turned sideways, as he had trouble in all the areas.

Sure the Canucks played poorly in all departments, but the soft goals deflate an already depleted lineup. Enough said about that, as you were all witnesses.

Cory Schneider did not fare any better, allowing three goals in 20 minutes of play. Just what has happened to this once-promising goaltender? His NHL stats are downright troubling.

Last season he finished with a GAA of 3.38, a Sv% of .877 in eight games played. This year in the 20 minutes, well if you allow three goals in 20 minutes it’s not going to help the average (GAA 9.00; Sv% .750)

Is Cory going to be another of these AHL players who shine in that league but cannot make the transition to the NHL? He is now in his third season and is under contract for another season before he becomes an RFA.

At what point does Canuck management decide if he’s going to be a player? They will either have to trade him or let him walk once his contract is up.

The Nucks are back to that unlucky number seven figure in the injury department. With that, Coach Vigneault has resorted to playing the excess of defensemen, to replace the injured forwards, of which there were six at the time of this writing.

Doesn’t make for an offensive juggernaut when you have players like Mathieu Schneider (-3 last night) and Aaron Rome (even) patrolling the wings. Rome has actually done a commendable defensive job playing up front.

One D man that I think would make a better winger is Kevin Bieska. On defense (-3 last night), he seems to have trouble with his reads, puts himself out of position trying to make the big hits and turns over the puck way to often in all the zones.

I think he has the tools to be a tough third line player and with his feistiness, make life miserable for the opposing defense, while being able to contribute on the offensive. Coach Vigneault are you listening?

I mean he’s definitely tougher than a Steve Bernier, better skater, would relish the idea of being the hit-ter instead of the hit-tee, and looks to have better hands.

This is not to suggest getting rid of Bernier, but this team could use some girt and bad attitude on the third line. Heck, it could use it on lines one through three.

With the Western Conference-leading Colorado Avalanche coming to town (pinch me, I must be having a 2003 flashback) on Sunday, the Nucks better be ready or you’re going to see another seven goals posted for the visitors.

Picked by many to finish at the bottom, the Avs have posted a 10-2-2 record and have always given the Canucks problems both home and away.

This game will have to be a tight, shut down, and trap like if you will, type of game, if the Nucks are to be successful.

Otherwise, the Avs offense will simply overwhelm them.

Sorry readers, it has been a busy October.  My MMBA NE Chapter postings have really petered out. That’s not to say that there is nothing going on. Everyone (but me) is still hitting the trails hard before the snow starts flying. Safety concerns:  We were notified recently by IMBA/MMBA to dismantle any teeter-totters on MMBA sanctioned trails.  This is due to some discrepancies in their insurance coverage.  We believe that the teeter-totters will be re-installed as soon as the issues are resolved.  Please do not try to “fix” them, just ignore them for now and forge ahead.  Thanks.  Also, be careful riding during the Fall season. The combination of slippery wet leaves and hidden tree roots can really kill your buzz quickly.

Several have been asking about the trailhead location at Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC).  As you enter the main parking lot at MMCC from S Clare Ave (old 27), you will find the trailhead about 100 ft (across the lawn) from the NW corner of the lot.  You will enter into a wooded area between the school and the road.  The 10.1 mile loop will conclude  on the South side of the same lot.  We hope to work with MMCC to develop some trail signage in the near future.  This is a wise ride destination during the rainy season, as it is on high ground and sheds water quickly.

Thanks to those who participated in the Pain Haven race and our 1st annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.  Both were successful events and we look forward to growing them in 2010.  Thanks to the City and County of Midland for their help with both events.

Glad to see so many familiar faces at “Race Across the Sky” the other night in Saginaw.  This inspiring documentary movie is about the Leadville 100, a now legendary mountain bike race in the sleepy mining town of Leadville, CO.  The Leadville 100 is an out and back race that begins at an altitude of 10,200 ft and climbs to 12,500 ft.  It challenges all riders from the elite level like Lance Armstrong, to those only competing against themselves for a chance to say that they completed the “Leadville”.  It was cool to see mountain biking on the big screen and learn of the riders who had to overcome many challenges to finish this race, not to mention seeing Lance’s feeble attempt to fix a flat tire.  Maybe we could consider creating our own “movie night” and show some mountain bike flicks at a venue of choice?

As we get into the hunting seasons, keep in mind that you may be sharing the woods with others, less visible.  I know that Midland City Forest and MMCC are posted “No Hunting”…probably others too.  I will try to get clarification on this and post an update.  May as well remove the whitetail from your riding tights until next year, just to be safe.
