<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Der heutige Tag war für mich etwas ganz besonderes. Nicht nur weil ich mal etwas neues gekocht habe, sondern der ganze Ablauf war so anders als für mich gewohnt. Okay, das Aufstehen war wie immer, doch nach dem Frühstück ging zum Gottesdienst der <a href="http://icf-berlin.de/" target="_blank">ICF</a> und erfreute mich an der wunderbaren Predigt und den tollen Menschen. In der Predigt ging es heute übrigens um das Urteilen, Verurteilen und Lästern. Danach bin ich erstmal wieder nachhause gefahren und habe mir was gekocht und gegessen. Und danach habe ich mich einfach in die Bahn gesetzt und habe gelesen. Natürlich musste ich ab und zu umsteigen, aber immerhin habe ich die Hälfte von Thomas&#8217; neuem Buch mit den Titel &#8220;<a href="http://www.amazon.de/Christsein-Konsumgesellschaft-Nachdenken-allt%C3%A4gliche-Herausforderung/dp/3868271317" target="_blank">Christsein in der Konsumgesellschaft: Nachdenken über eine alltägliche Herausforderung</a>&#8221; geschafft zu lesen. Bin bisher übrigens sehr begeistert davon. Das Ziel meiner langen Zugfahrt war die <a href="http://www.berliner-stadtmission.de/" target="_blank">Berliner Stadtmission</a>, in der meine ehemalige WG-Mitbewohnerin Rebecca ihr Praktikum machte. Dort genoss ich den Jugendgottesdienst, den sie mit den Jugendlichen gestaltete und redete hinter noch eine ganze Weile mit ihr und ihrer WG-Mitbewohnerin. Und danach fuhr ich wieder Richtung Heimat. Unterwegs traf ich beim Umsteigen zwei mal auf Obdachlose. Also auf verschiedene. Und beides mal hatte ich das Gefühl, dass ich mich dazu setzen sollte und das Gespräch suchen sollte. Und es war beides mal so unglaublich gut. Ich hatte so ehrliche und unter die Haut gehende Gespräche, dass ich momentan am überlegen bin, ob ich das nicht öfter machen sollte. Auf jeden Fall hatte ich heute einen durch und durch gesegneten Tag und bin froh, dass Gott mich heute so durch den Tag geführt hat.</p>

<p>Jobbcoacher lär sig <a href="http://tankarochreflektioner.blogspot.com/2009/11/coaching-vs-losningsfokuserat.html"><em>lösningsfokuserat arbetsssätt</em> under en dag under deras jobbcoachutbildning</a>. Det är L Holmberg som skrivit undervisningsmaterialet rörande lösningsfokuserat arbetssätt (<a href="http://www.arbetsformedlingen.se/Wlmp/library/documents/WLMP-report5.pdf">engelsk version</a>) som Arbetsförmedlingen använder under en av de 7,5 dagar jobbcoacherna internutbildas till jobbcoacher. En dag är en kort tid för att lära sig lösningsinriktad coaching, <a href="http://www.stpress.se/zino.aspx?articleID=15110">och 7,5 dagar är en kort tid för att bli jobbcoach</a>, men själva metodiken inom <a href="http://framtidscoach.se/deltagare/2006/page25/files/VagledningLUND.pdf"><em>lösningsfokuserat arbetssätt</em> </a>ligger nära professionell coaching. <a href="http://tankarochreflektioner.blogspot.com/2009/11/coaching-vs-losningsfokuserat.html">L Holmberg kan se en liten skillnad</a>: <em>coacher är drivande och utmanande än de som jobbar lösningsinriktat</em>. Det vore intressant att höra andra uttala sig om skillnaden mellan <a href="http://framtidscoach.se/deltagare/2006/page25/files/VagledningLUND.pdf"><em>lösningsfokuserat arbetssätt</em> </a>och <a href="http://kentlundgren.se/coaching/Vad_ar_Coaching.pdf">professionell coaching</a>.</p>

This time it is the rain gutter (Channel at the roof level for water to flow off).  The rakes manufactured till now used to have a stainless steel rain gutter. That has been replaced by a conventional iron/aluminium rain gutter now. It was not essential to paint the stainless steel rain gutters, but the conventional ones have to be painted. <p>Rise of the Footsoldier is one of the most compelling football (soccer) hooligan movies since Gary Oldman&#8217;s appearance in the Firm.  The flick follows Carlton Leach&#8217;s rise from typical hooligan to hired muscle to organized criminal to retirement.  Yep thats right folks, this is based on a true story that eventually culminates in the famous Rettendon murders of 1995.  As a kid that grew up in the American rave scene, it was quite interesting to watch how involved gangsters became in British club culture.  I&#8217;m not so sure I would have done some of the shit I did knowing these guys ran the show.</p>

The number of 12 coach (12 coach is the key word here) rakes to be produced is 130 and not 174 as is being portrayed by MRVC. 174 is the number of 9 car rakes to be manufactured. Let us convert 174 9 car rakes to 12 car rakes. Every 9 coach rake consists of three units. So, the number of units in 174 nine coach rakes will be 174 * 3 which is 522. Now, a 12 coach rake consists of 4 units. Hence, number of 12 coach rakes which can be formed with 522 units is given by 522/4 which is 130.5!</p>
<p>Here is proof of what I am saying: WR was supposed to get 56 rakes in their second batch. But they got 42 12 coach rakes. Now, 9 coach rakes are made up of three units, each unit consisting of one A, one B and one C coach. 56 nine coach rakes will have 56*3=168 units. A 12 coach rake has 4 such units. 168/4=42! The bits of puzzle fall into place with ease! All this time we were wondering why CR started getting rakes all of a sudden. In reality CR has not started getting rakes all of a sudden. This was a part of the production schedule itself!</p>
<p>But this does leave one unanswered question. How did CR get 16 twelve coach rakes initially when 16 were announced as allotted to CR? They should have got 12 twelve coach rakes.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;">I pilastri del piano terra, adibito a garage e cantine, si sono staccati e sono stati frantumati, lasciando solo dei monconi espulsi all&#8217;esterno o all&#8217;interno dell&#8217;edificio.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;">Guardando meglio, ci si accorge della presenza di auto all&#8217;interno e … vengono i brividi!</p>

A volte, basta un piccolissimo vuoto d&#8217;aria, mentre siamo in volo su un aereo d&#8217;ultima generazione, per creare il panico. Alcuni di noi soffrono anche solo salendo in ascensore. Pensiamo a cosa devono aver provato quegli amici, da allora sono diventati a pieno titolo amici di tutti noi, negli attimi che hanno sentito sprofondare la propria casa: deve essere stato terribile!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;"> <strong>Come può essere possibile che questo accada in una casa ( una in senso lato, sono molti per la verità gli edifici in questa situazione) in cemento armato di recente costruzione?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;"> Beh, per gli addetti ai lavori, questo fenomeno è conosciuto e valutato con attenzione anche in sede di progettazione, in un linguaggio non oxfordiano ma efficace, viene chiamato “piano molle”. Il nome la dice lunga!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;">Una serie di pilastri, senza murature che “diano una mano” ad irrigidire la struttura anche contro le sollecitazioni a taglio, può correre incontro al rischio di avere un piano molle.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;">Calma, non ho detto che questo accada, ho specificato che può accadere se non si prendono le necessarie precauzioni per evitarlo.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;">Se andiamo a vedere l&#8217;armatura di questi pilastri, ce ne accorgiamo subito! </p>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;">Nei pilastri, la normativa ed il buon senso, impongono un passo sempre più stretto tra le staffe in prossimità del nodo pilastro-solaio. Se questo non avviene, la resistenza alle sollecitazioni è compromessa significativamente!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;">Questo è ciò che è accaduto? Non lo so, non sta certo a me dirlo, c&#8217;è la Magistratura e le Autorità competenti (molto più preparate di quanto possa essere io), starà a loro verificarlo. Da parte mia, vi faccio vedere alcune foto, tanto che possiate farvene un&#8217;idea!!!</p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">Strutture a setti continui sul perimetro esterno e tra gli appartamenti ma con pilastri interni all&#8217;abitazione, per garantire versatilità distributiva.</p>

<li>
<p style="margin-bottom:0;">Strutture a telaio con tamponamento a setti in cemento debolmente armato.</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align:justify;margin-bottom:0;"> </p>

<title><![CDATA[Update on the Race for the Energy Information Vertical Killer App]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Last Spring, I wrote that the market leadership for the energy information vertical was up for grabs as several of the dominant players stumbled, some of the biggest traditional energy consultancies tightened their focus and the recession undermined the weaker contenders.  You can read the complete story here. <a href="#_ftn1">[1]</a></p>
<p>So I thought it time to check up on the progress, read some signposts and assess who is gaining traction and who is not.  Here’s my take:</p>

<td width="480" valign="top"><strong>WoodMac</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Happy ending when Charter House saved it from Candover failure and   seems focused on long term investment for growth.</li>
<li>Key hires from Ventyx turnover strengthen modeling, market analytics   and fuels add depth to already strong oil &#38; gas capabilities. WoodMac is   hiring again to build market share and recurring revenue leverage   worldwide.</li>
<li>WoodMac is not the market leader today but it has the best potential   to seize it in Americas   and EMEA but needs more depth in Asia. It   will not soon match the CERA marketing machine in CERAweek and the well   deserved reputation of Chairman Dan Yergin.    But under the hood, WoodMac has the capacity to deliver more   actionable analysis.</li>
<li>WoodMac must continue to strengthen its electric power capabilities   and products as they are the dagger to the heart of IHS dominance.</li>
<li>WoodMac uses the Aurora   regional modeling solution, a very capable software solution for almost every   utility resource planning, market analysis and forecasting task. It needs   more transmission analytics skills and SmartGrid will force all these   consulting firms to shift emphasis to integrating efficiency, demand response   and renewable energy risk into their analyses.</li>
</ul>

<td width="480" valign="top"><strong>SAIC RWBECK</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>A key rival to ICF is SAIC for big government contracts.  SAIC is focused on science and defense   research, while ICF is focused on policy and implementation.  Acquisition of RWBeck strengthens its   engineering, water and energy bench.    But Beck is destined for the SAIC homeland security group focused on   infrastructure. This is not a bad place to be if SAIC can effectively   integrate RWBECK capabilities without losing its core competencies by   diminishing the role of its practice leaders in a more research oriented SAIC   world.</li>
<li>Watch the Beck regional offices which have been independent practice   areas.  If they perform well they   probably are OK, if they stumble or resources are bled to bigger federal   projects, the Beck tradition will fade fast.    Regional offices represent both a Plan B for SAIC if Federal spending   slows and a PLATFORM for regional growth and leverage of SAIC core   competencies into non-government applications. Beck public power clients seem   ripe for cherry picking by engineers like B&#38;V.</li>
<li>SAIC should do well as long as Federal research and defense dollars   keep flowing.</li>
</ul>
</td>

<tr>
<td width="480" valign="top"><strong>ICF</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Stimulus money, deep Federal Government agency relationships, and   the size to manage large scale consulting and services projects put ICF in   the sweet spot for pure consultancy.</li>
<li>Jones &#38; Stokes, environmental consultancy acquisition, deepens   its clean and green quals.</li>
<li>ICF Strategy focus is large scale consulting projects providing   policy analysis and services delivery. ICF should do well as long as the Feds   keep spending, but could stumble if the spending slows since it is hard to   replace large scale projects in its core competency areas.  It needs a Plan B strategy.</li>
</ul>

<td width="480" valign="top"><strong>IHS</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>IHS acquired Global Insight to add a core global economics and data   foundation to the business.  This may   be the single most important factor in scaling IHS growth.</li>
<li>The problem for IHS is after buying big brands like CERA, JS HEROLD,   JANES and GLOBAL INSIGHT it is stuck with them.  IHS continues to make non-material   acquisitions of energy services businesses but lacks a clear, coherent   strategy for integrating them and leveraging them.  Its Product Lifecycle domain parts catalog business is   slow growth but combined with Global Insight Global Trade products makes for   a world class supply chain solution.</li>
<li>Now IHS must get serious about integrating its business units into   one IHS business.  Scott Key now heads   the IHS Insight business line and is integrating the back office, research,   data and econometrics business into a unified whole.  The IHS Critical Information business line   lacks a unifying strategy and a single authoritative leader so it lags behind.   But IHS is taking too long on this integration process and seems to be   ignoring the electric power side of the value chain.</li>
<li>What about Electric Power? See this recent IHS presentation on   CERA’s home page. <a href="#_ftn1">[1]</a> Notice tighter integration of oil &#38; gas, and European products which is   good but not North American power which remains separate.  This is a big mistake since CERA’s power   product is very weak, too bland and generic to be actionable and fails to   position IHS to grow consulting services.    This is a door wide open vulnerability for IHS enabling others to take   IHS power clients wallet share and with them growth leverage from power   across the rest of the business.</li>
</ul>

<td width="480" valign="top"><strong>Ventyx</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Ventyx has an enviable position in operations and logistics software   and is working to gain traction in the smart grid space.</li>
<li>Its most recent   software acquisition was the <em>nMarkets</em> product from the Structure Group.  This   is a good fit with the Ventyx Suite.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>So what’s the Verdict from Reading the Signposts?</strong></p>
<p>Last Spring I said that both IHS and Ventyx had the potential to dominate the energy analytics vertical space,  but WoodMac,while smaller could sneak up on them.  Then WoodMac was threatened with a near death experience by the failure of Candover but now seems to have landed on its feet with an enthusiastic new private equity owner in Charter House.</p>
<p>Of these five firms, I believe WoodMac has the best growth potential in the energy analytics space and is the one most likely to positively surprise clients with its breadth and depth.  It is also faster, more nimble, resourceful and more client facing at the front line of transactions and decisions.  WoodMac still needs to add bench strength in electric power to achieve dominance in this vertical but it is increasingly capable of stinging competitors, taking market share and delighting clients with better decision analysis and more actionable advice.</p>
<p>SAIC acquired RWBECK and with it added bench strength in energy, transmission and water.  While the riskiest part of any acquisition is the integration process, if SAIC can use RWBECK to boost its capabilities to compete with ICF and others for large Federal defense, science and policy implementation consulting projects near term and leverage Beck’s power and water regional practices to create platforms for growth long term as a Plan B this will be a VERY shrewd move.</p>
<p>ICF is a capable, qualified consulting firm focused on big federal contracts.  That’s good when you can get them but it is tough to replace a $20 million contract when the money runs out.  None of the other ICF practice areas, while solid, can make up for such large contract turnover. I think ICF is weaker than SAIC and more vulnerable to shifting winds in Washington spending habits. It is more likely prey for a larger company that seeks a solid government contracts revenue foundation.</p>
<p>IHS remains the player with the most raw potential but the weakest vision and execution of how to integrate its many acquisitions into a unified whole and leverage its global core competencies.  I loved working there and want to root for it to succeed.  Today, the biggest strategic weakness is electric power and the lack of a clear IHS vision to integrate power and its environmental services business domain into a unified vision around delivering on the promise of smart grid technology advances, environmental strategy and compliance with emissions reduction, and a sustainable, reliable, affordable electric power supply chain across global markets.  If it can do so, it can dominate the space.</p>
<p>Ventyx dominated the market space for energy analytics, consulting, advisory services and their leverage, but it chose to focus on operations and logistics software where its products are solid but Ventyx must compete with much larger players like Oracle and SAP in the enterprise solutions space.   Its recent acquisition of the Structure Group nMarkets software products is a good one. Ventyx has been bulking up its SmartGrid offering to stay competitive and improve its valuation.</p>

<blockquote><p>You are invited to participate in an  important research regarding the World Health Organization (WHO)’s International  Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as it relates to  children and youth with motor impairments, specifically cerebral palsy (CP).</p>
<p>The WHO developed the ICF in 2001 and went on to publish  the child and youth version (ICF-CY) in 2007. The goal of the ICF-CY is to  create a framework to define and classify the health and function of children  and youth around the world and to provide a comprehensive classification system  of childhood disability that could be used across service systems.</p>
<p>In order to facilitate the use of the very comprehensive  ICF, adult research groups working in collaboration with the WHO, have gone on  to create “core sets.” A core set is a subset of many items of the ICF and is  created to make the ICF-CY more user friendly in every day practice. To date,  no core sets have been developed for children and youth.</p>
<p>Our research group, based in the Department of  Pediatrics at UBC is working in collaboration with the ICF Research Branch of  the WHO, located at the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at  Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich, Germany to develop ICF “core sets”  for children and youth with CP.</p>
<p>The core set development will have a number of projects  and we are inviting you, as an expert in the field of childhood CP, to be part  of one of the first projects.</p>
<p>We are identifying experts in the assessment and  management of children and youth with CP who are willing to participate in an  internet-based expert survey. In keeping with the standard protocol for the  development of ICF core sets; this worldwide survey of clinical experts will be  performed to identify all relevant areas of functioning for children and youth  with CP. Over 350 experts from all six WHO regions of the globe are being  sought.</p>
<p>Therefore we are seeking the help of individuals who  fulfill the following criteria:</p>
<p>·         Your professional background includes one of  the following: pediatrics, developmental pediatrics, pediatric  rehabilitation physician, pediatric neurology, pediatric neurosurgery,  orthopedic surgery, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language  pathology, rehabilitation nursing, social worker and special education teachers  and,</p>
<p>·         For at least 5 years, you have been working  in the field of child/adolescent physical disability including CP (including  clinical, educational, research and/or administrative roles) and,</p>
<p>·         Your focus is mainly in <span style="text-decoration:underline;">pediatric</span> physical disabilities and,</p>
<p>·         You are fluent in English.</p>
<p>Your participation is completely voluntary. If you agree  to participate, your name will be added to a bank of experts and subsequently a  random sample will receive an electronic survey to complete. If you are randomly  selected, completion of the survey will require approximately 30 minutes of your  time. You are free to withdraw at any time. Your  identity will be kept strictly confidential. Your completed survey  information will be stored with no personal identifiers as participants will be  assigned an identification number and responses will be kept anonymous.  Only  the researchers have access to the data which will be held securely in the  Children and Youth with Disability in Society (CYDiS) research unit of the Child  &#38; Family Research Institute, a partner of the University of British Columbia. Results will be reported  only in aggregate form without naming specific individuals, universities or  cities.</p>

<p><em>This planned hike is meant to offset the Rs 200 crore loss the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has suffered in its implementation of phase 1 of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).</em></p>
<p><em>As part of the MUTP, the MRVC and the railways have introduced newer locals, widened tracks at various locations, and added new lines between Borivli and Virar, and beyond Thane.</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a long time since ticket prices were increased,&#8221; said P.C. Sehgal, chairman, MRVC. In 2006-07, then Union Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had reduced fares by a rupee.</em></p>
<p><em>Commuters in the city have already paid, in the form of the surcharge on their tickets, Rs 80 crore annually, which goes toward repaying the WB loan.<br />The WB&#8217;s schedule on repayments suggested the surcharge on ticket prices, hiked in 2004 by 8 per cent, be doubled by September 2006, and tripled in 2009.</em></p>
<p><em>MRVC sources said letters have already been written to the railway ministry asking it to revise ticket rates, but observers say to comes down to mustering political will.<br />Under the ongoing MUTP phase II, the railways are incurring a loss of Rs 650 crore. &#8220;If we are not able to recover money through ticket prices, it will be difficult to repay the Rs 1,900 crore loan on phase II,&#8221; said the MRVC official.</em></p>

<p style="text-align:center;">I do not know what to say. Surcharge is definitely needed to repay the loan, but the kind of &#8220;progress&#8221; that we are seeing right now does not justiify the surcharge hike. Here is what happens to the rakes just two months after they leave the factory:</p>

<p style="text-align:left;">I do not understand why we should pay for such crap. According to an official document of MRVC, the cost of shell of one coach is Rs 1.15 crores (11.5 million) on an average. There may be slight variations depending on coach type. This cost excludes costs of electricals and electronics. It is simply preposterous. The finishing of coach shells is so bad that I get the impression as if some child has built them. Coaches of this quality just cannot cost 1.15 crores. A Volvo B9R bus costs approximately Rs 80-85 lakhs (8 million). This cost includes everything-engine, airconditioning etc. And the bus comes with world class (truly world class. Not MRVC&#8217;s standards of world class) body, perfect fit and finish, excellent interiors, highest quality of materials, a superb paint job and a good design. MRVC rakes have none of these features. Still the coaches cost 30 lakh more than Volvo! Yes, I am fully aware that this is not an apple to apple comparison. Still I found it necessary to give this comparison, as it shows that the quoted cost of MRVC rakes does not tallywith the actual rakes. The quality remains low in spite of the high costs.</p>

<p>1. Haga que los colaboradores midan la calidad de los comportamientos directivos de sus mandos. Cada dos años podría ser suficiente.</p>
<p>2. En función de los datos obtenidos reconozca –y premie– a los buenos jefes, ayude a mejorar a los que necesitan ajustar su estilo de dirección y actúe con firmeza en la mejora de los que no hayan quedado a la altura mínima exigible.</p>
<p>3. Logre que todos los mandos que estén por debajo de 9 tengan la oportunidad de mejorar reordenando sus comportamientos de dirección y ayudándoles a comprender cómo funciona el liderazgo, con programas de desarrollo de comportamientos.<br />
Olvídese de formar con ‘píldoras’ sueltas para tratar de arreglar sólo los aspectos que han salido peor en un mando.</p>
<p>4. <strong>Haga que se compruebe el progreso y, ahora sí, que se ayude con formaciones específicas e incluso con procesos de coaching individuales para quienes precisan de apoyo extra para crecer como mandos, y así garantizar que se implanta en la empresa el ‘Derecho a ser bien dirigido’ y poder tener toda la fuerza moral para exigir alto rendimiento y trabajo bien hecho.</strong></p>
<p>5. Aparte del equipo a los mandos que, tras los pasos anteriores, han demostrado que no están a la altura y que son incapaces de actuar y mejorar dentro de los mínimos exigidos en el liderazgo y la cultura de su empresa.</p>
<p>6. Desarrolle un sistema que cuide con mucho rigor las incorporaciones a puestos de mando, para que se integren en este modelo de exigencia directiva desde el comienzo.</p>
<p>7. Disfrute de los resultados y de una impresionante potencia y capacidad de gestión, de liderazgo, de delegación, de movilización, de entusiasmo, de cambio, de compromiso, de productividad, de evolución y de incremento de resultados en la compañía.</p>
