A few hours until Astro Boy and I get dressed up to go to a friend´s New Year´s Eve dinner party. We won´t know the other guests. Might be a fun night or a boring one. We´ll see. I´m just happy to head out for a few hours and not cook after my all day, culinary efforts for our dinner party last night. We had nine close friends over. It was great to sit around eating, chatting and sharing a few laughs.

After dinner, we did a little ritual around the fireplace. We wrote down something we want to farewell from 2009, a sentiment or experience and then a hope for 2010. Then we all threw our texts into the fire as a way of placing our writings in the hands of the universe. Not hard to guess what my hope is.

Things to remember about 2009?

You saw me cry until my body shook, until no more sound came. You watched me hate my ovaries and uterus and RE and especially my pregnant friends. I´ve never hated and hated so much. You helped me feel like a complete failure, tested my marriage to dangerous limits and taught me to dislike everything about my life. You convinced me that, yes OK, after 3 IUIs and 2 IVFs, I am most probably infertile. I´ll never forget you, now bugger off.

I threw all of that into the fire! What a relief!

Today, on the 31st of December 2009, I´m so happy to write about a life-changing shift since my last BFN. Something quite magical. Was it my reiki friend´s work on me? Is it the beginning of a new chapter? Or is it sheer exhaustion? Probably all of these.

I am happy and proud to announce with all my heart that we want to….

Adopt a baby!

So IVF # 2 has come and gone. Got my BFN today. Didn´t even post once during the cycle. Haven´t been here or looking at other blogs for months. Anyway I´ll write it up tonight, because who knows, maybe one day, I can read all of this and remember what I endured while I rub my big belly.

So, to summarise the cycle. It was a short protocol. All over in two weeks. My ovaries stimmed nicely. Maybe a bit too nicely and produced 21 eggs, 14 fertilized, transferred 3 and froze 9. Not bad for an old chook.  Ooooo ahhh they were very impressed at the clinic. Post ET, I was doubled over in pain for three days and probably went back to work too soon. My doc didn´t want to transfer three, in case we should have a high-risk multiple pregnancy. OMG she makes me laugh. She pisses me off and makes me laugh at the same time. I don´t like her. Actually, I´d like to punch her. She races through my visits. Makes very little eye contact with me and after A YEAR tells me, very casually, that I have polysistic ovaries.

This 2WW included my work xmas dinner at which I ended up caving in and telling a few work mates that I´d been away for a few days because I´d done IVF. They got all emotional and hugged me as if I was already pregnant. Very uncomfortable situation and will be even more uncomfortable telling them it didn´t work, after xmas break. Can´t wait.

Astro boy and I are having longer talks about looking into adoption in 2010. We started with IUIs in 2007. It´ll be three years soon. During which ALL of my closest girlfriends have become / are pregnant. One called me from Australia during my 2WW to share her good news. Luckily I was at work and so quickly congratulated her, said a few other nice things and then rushed off to teach my class. My stomach felt that deep, dull nausea it does every time I hear about another pregnancy. It´s almost a mini panic attack. I feel my breathing change and I can´t focus on anything. Another girlfriend called last week to ask me to be her baby´s godmother. It´s all a bit too much sometimes. It all feels like a very long streak of bad luck and sick jokes. Then we had friends over for dinner three nights ago, who are into astrology and reiki and told me I am a “nurturer”, and that I might not be a mother in this lifetime but can “nurture in many ways”. Very bloody comforting.

We think we might have a good chance with adoption. We both have good jobs, a lovely big home and garden that we own, we are healthy, have been married for two years and have supportive families. I guess I´ll have to wait and see what happens with the frozen embies. After that, we could try donor eggs. We don´t have any issues with the non-genetic issue and there is no waiting list at our clinic. Donors are anonymous and they try to physically match the donor and mother as much as possible. That policy sits well with me. At 38, after three failed IUIs, two failed IVF cycles I am guessing that my eggs are crap, sizzled, scabby and stinky. I wouldn´t even mind going straight to donor eggs for the next cycle, but Astro Boy and Dr-I-HATE, will probably convince me to use the frozen embies first.

For now, I need to scrape my heart off the floor and get a dinner party organised for New Year´s Eve. Going off to buy the food tomorrow and will avoid looking at mums and strollers and cute babies with scarves and woolly hats.

IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection(ICSI)

การ บริหารจัดการภาวะมีบุตรยากในฝ่ายชายนั้นเป็นปัญหามาโดยตลอดจนถึงปัจจุบัน เนื่องจากการรักษานั้นไม่ได้ประสิทธิภาพดีเท่าที่ควร ทั้งนี้ส่วนหนึ่งเนื่องมาจากในผู้ป่วยส่วนใหญ่แล้วไม่อาจทราบสาเหตุที่แท้ จริงที่ทำให้ค่าการตรวจอสุจิต่ำกว่ามาตรฐานได้  และแม้กระทั่งในรายที่ทราบสาเหตุชัดเจน เช่น ปัญหาการทำงานของอัณฑะและท่อทางเดินของอสุจิผิดปกติ การรักษาด้วยยาหรือการผ่าตัดส่วนใหญ่ก็มักจะประสบกับความล้มเหลวในการที่จะ เพิ่มอัตราการตั้งครรภ์ให้สูงขึ้น  เมื่อเทคโนโลยีช่วยเหลือการเจริญพันธุ์ถูกนำมาใช้ทั่วไป จึงได้มีความพยายามต่างๆที่จะหาวิธีการที่ได้ผลดีกว่าในการรักษาภาวะมีบุตร ยากที่มีสาเหตุมาจากปัจจัยในฝ่ายชาย

การ ฉีดเชื้ออสุจิโดยใช้เชื้ออสุจิจากสามีนั้นอาจได้ผลดีในผู้ป่วยบางราย ซึ่งมีผลการตรวจอสุจิต่ำกว่ามาตรฐานเพียงเล็กน้อยหรือปานกลาง การคัดเชื้ออสุจิของสามีและฉีดเชื้อเข้าสู่โพรงมดลูกร่วมกับการรับประทานยา กระตุ้นไข่นั้นจะช่วยให้อัตราการตั้งครรภ์สูงขึ้นได้ในรายที่จำนวนอสุจิที่ มีชีวิตและมีการเคลื่อนไหวได้ดีที่ได้ภายหลังการเตรียมอสุจิมีมากกว่า 1 ล้านตัวขึ้นไป

การ ทดลองปฏิสนธิภายนอกร่างกายในคนไข้กลุ่มหนึ่งพบว่ามีแนวโน้มที่จะล้มเหลวใน การปฏิสนธิและมีอัตราการปฏิสนธิได้ค่อนข้างต่ำ เมื่อความผิดปกติของอสุจิอยู่ในระดับปานกลางและระดับรุนแรง การช่วยปฏิสนธิภายนอกร่างกาย ในแบบต่างๆจึงถูกนำมาทำลองใช้ในรายที่มีค่าการตรวจอสุจิที่ต่ำซึ่งมีแนวโน้ม ที่จะมีอัตราการปฏิสนธิที่ต่ำด้วย

วิธีการช่วยปฏิสนธิโดยจุลหัตถการ IntraCytoplasmic Sperm Injection: ICSI วิธีการนี้จะทำการฉีดอสุจิตัวเดียวเข้าไปยังของเหลวในเซลล์ไข่ (Cytoplasm) ผลการรักษาได้ปรากฏเป็นครั้งแรกในวารสารวิทยาศาสตร์ในปี 1992 ซึ่งได้ผลการรักษาที่ประสบความสำเร็จเป็นอย่างดี ปัจจุบัน ICSI นั้นถูกนำมาใช้อย่างแพร่หลายในการรักษาภาวะมีบุตรยากทั่วโลก และถือเป็นการปฏิวัติการบริหารจัดการการรักษาภาวะมีบุตรยากในฝ่ายชาย การทำ ICSI นั้นช่วยให้ได้อัตราการปฏิสนธิและอัตราการตั้งครรภ์จากการทำบลาสโตซิสท์คัล เจอร์ใกล้เคียงกับผู้ที่ทำบลาสโตซิสท์คัลเจอร์ที่ไม่ได้มีปัญหาของอสุจิและ ไม่ได้ทำ ICSI ร่วมด้วย

ข้อบ่งชี้

ICSI นั้นเป็นข้อบ่งชี้ในผู้มีบุตรยากซึ่งมีโอกาสที่จะเกิดความล้มเหลวในการ ปฏิสนธิอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ ผู้ป่วยเหล่านี้รวมถึงผู้ที่เคยมีประวัติการรักษาที่เกิดการล้มเหลวในการ ปฏิสนธิมาก่อนด้วย ผู้ป่วยที่จะได้รับประโยชน์จากการช่วยปฏิสนธิด้วย ICSI ได้แก่ผู้ที่มีผลการตรวจอสุจิอยู่ในระดับที่ผิดปกติหรือต่ำกว่ามาตรฐานมาก หรือมีผลการตรวจอสุจิซึ่งมีความเข้มข้นของตัวอสุจิที่หลั่งออกมาน้อยกว่า 5 ล้านตัว/ml หรือ มีอสุจิที่มีการเคลื่อนไหวหรือมีชีวิตน้อยกว่า 10% จากการศึกษาพบว่าในฝ่ายชายที่มีค่าการตรวจอสุจิอยู่ในระดับคาบเส้นมาตรฐาน ได้ผลการรักษาดีขึ้นเมื่อทำ ICSI สำหรับผู้ป่วยที่ไม่มีอสุจิในน้ำอสุจิที่หลั่งออกมาเลยนั้น ปัจจุบันได้รับการเสนอวิธีการช่วยปฏิสนธิด้วย ICSI เพิ่มมากขึ้น ทั้งนี้เนื่องมาจากการที่เราสามารถผ่าตัด นำอสุจิออกมาจากทางเดินระบบสืบพันธุ์เพศชายหรือจากอัณฑะ แม้ว่าอสุจิที่ได้มานั้นจะมีคุณภาพไม่ค่อยดีนัก แต่ด้วยวิธีการอันมีประสิทธิภาพของ ICSI นั้นจะสามารถช่วยให้เกิดการปฏิสนธิและช่วยให้เกิดการตั้งครรภ์ขึ้นได้

การกระตุ้นไข่และการเจาะเก็บไข่

ไข่ จำนวนหนึ่งเจริญเติบโตขึ้นจากการกระตุ้นด้วยฮอร์โมนโดยปรับขนาดยาให้เหมาะสม กับผู้ป่วยแต่ละราย การเจาะไข่จะกระทำผ่านทางช่องคลอดภายใต้การให้ยาระงับความรู้สึกทางหลอด เลือดดำ โดยจะทำการเจาะไข่ภายหลังจากการฉีด hCG ไปแล้ว 36 ชั่วโมง เซลล์ไข่ที่นำออกมาได้จะถูกเพาะเลี้ยงไว้ในตู้อบภายใต้น้ำยาเพาะเลี้ยง

การเตรียมอสุจิ

กระบวน การเตรียมอสุจิจะสามารถกระทำได้ด้วยวิธีการต่างๆขึ้นอยู่กับคุณภาพของ ตัวอย่างอสุจิ ในปัจจุบันมีการพัฒนาน้ำยา PureSperm ขึ้นมาใช้ ภายหลังจากการเตรียมอสุจิจะได้ตัวอสุจิที่สะอาดและมีความเข้มข้น 1 ล้านตัว / 1 มิลลิลิตร และหลอดบรรจุตัวอสุจิที่เตรียมไว้แล้วจะถูกเก็บไว้ในตู้อบเพื่อรอการปฏิสนธิ กับไข่

ICSI

เซลล์ ไข่จะถูกวางไว้ภายใต้กล้องจุลทรรศน์ หลังจากนั้นจะใช้เข็มเลือกอสุจิหนึ่งตัวและทำการตัดหางของอสุจิออก แล้วใช้เข็มแก้วเล็กๆดูดตัวอสุจิเข้าไป จากนั้นจะทำการยึดเซลล์ไข่เอาไว้ แล้วจึงแทงเข็ม (ที่บรรจุหัวอสุจิ) ผ่านเข้าไปในเซลล์ไข่อย่างรวดเร็ว หลังจากที่ปลายเข็มเข้าไปสู่ชั้นของเหลวภายในเซลล์ไข่ ก็จะฉีดหัวอสุจิเข้าสู่เซลล์ไข่ กระบวนการเช่นนี้จะกระทำไปเรื่อยๆจนกว่าจะครบจำนวนไข่ทุกใบ เซลล์ไข่ที่ถูกฉีดอสุจิเข้าไปแล้วจะถูกนำกลับไปเก็บไว้ในตู้อบต่อไป

การปฏิสนธิ การเพาะเลี้ยงตัวอ่อน และการย้ายตัวอ่อน

หลัง จากการทำ ICSI แล้ว 12 – 18 ชั่วโมง เซลล์ไข่จะถูกนำออกมาตรวจสอบสัญญาณของการปฏิสนธิ เซลล์ไข่บางส่วนอาจได้รับความเสียหายจากการใช้เข็มเจาะผ่านเข้าไป เซลล์ไข่ที่สามารถปฏิสนธิได้เป็นปกติจะถูกย้ายไปเก็บไว้ในน้ำยาเพาะเลี้ยง ตัวอ่อนใหม่ และเก็บไว้ในตู้อบต่อไป ขั้นตอนต่างๆของการเพาะเลี้ยงตัวอ่อน การดูแลหลังการใส่ตัวอ่อน และการทดสอบการตั้งครรภ์ จะเหมือนกันกับการทำบลาสโตซิสท์คัลเจอร์ทั่วๆไป

ทารกที่เกิดจากการทำ ICSI

มี ความเป็นไปได้หรือไม่ที่กระบวนการทำ ICSI เองนั้นจะเป็นสาเหตุให้เกิดความผิดปกติต่อผู้ที่ถือกำเนิดขึ้นจากวิธีการนี้ ด้วยเหตุนี้จึงได้มีการเก็บข้อมูลในผู้ที่ถือกำเนิดขึ้นจากการทำ ICSI โดยได้ทำการตรวจโรคทางพันธุกรรมก่อนการตั้งครรภ์และเก็บข้อมูลในทารกภายหลัง จากการตั้งครรภ์จากการทำ ICSI ผลการเก็บข้อมูลไม่ได้ระบุว่ามีการเพิ่มขึ้นของอุบัติการณ์ความผิดปกติของ โครโมโซมหรือความพิการรุนแรงของทารก ในทารกที่เกิดขึ้นจากกระบวนการ ICSI เมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับอัตราที่พบในประชากรทั่วไป

ปัจจุบัน ICSI นั้นได้เปลี่ยนแนวทางในการรักษาภาวะมีบุตรยากในฝ่ายชายไปโดยสิ้นเชิง ในขณะที่ไม่ได้เป็นการสิ้นสุดการตรวจหาสาเหตุของการมีบุตรยาก หรือการรักษาด้วยยาหรือการผ่าตัด แต่เป็นสิ่งช่วยสร้างความมั่นใจให้ว่าเมื่อการรักษาเหล่านั้นไม่ได้ผลยังมี วิธีการช่วยเหลือการเจริญพันธุ์ที่ได้ผลดีอยู่ อย่างไรก็ตามการทำ ICSI ควรกระทำในผู้ป่วยที่มีข้อบ่งชี้ที่เหมาะสมเท่านั้น

New Delhi: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) recently submitted recommendations to Salman Khurshid, Minister of State (I/C) for Corporate Affairs & Minority Affairs to strengthen the Corporate Governance Framework.

The Satyam revelations in January 2009 led to a re-look at the regulatory provisions that exist. The Council of the Institute accordingly constituted a Core Group to analyze the issues and to, inter alia, make suitablerecommendations for policy and regulatory changes in the legal framework.

The Core Group undertook a detailed study of the prevailing corporate governance practices across the world, the recommendations of various committees andcorporate governance codes, the best practices adopted by the industry and after benchmarking the best practices that can be mandated, made its recommendations.

The Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), which went into the policy and regulatory aspects of the legal framework for corporate governance following the revelations about the fraud in IT services firm Satyam Computer Services in January this year, submitted its report to Minister for Corporate Affairs Salman Khurshid today.

Satyam’s founder-chairman B Ramalinga Raju had disclosed on January 7 that the company’s profits had been overstated for years and that about $ 1 billion of cash and bank balances on its books did not exist. He and some of his close associates are now under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation in what is India’s biggest case of corporate fraud.

After the sensational revelations, the ICSI felt there was an urgent need to analyse the regulatory provisions that existed and it had, accordingly, constituted a core group to look into the issues and to, inter alia, make suitable recommendations for policy and regulatory changes in the legal framework.

Jag fattade först ingenting.  Varför var han ledsen? Men när han fick fram att reproduktionscentrum ringt så trillade poletten ner. Det vet man ju att det inte är bra om de ringer dagen innan ET.

Det visade sig att inget – noll, zero, null – av äggen hade blivit befruktade. Av de 10 ägg de fick ur mig. Inte en endaste var befruktad. Trots fina ägg och ett superbra prov från mannen. Troligen har mina ägg för hårt skal för att spermierna ska orka ta sig igenom.

Jag satt i soffan o var helt förundrad. Allt hade ju flutit på så bra så jag hade liksom glömt att det här kan hända.  Att vad som helst kan hända. Det var ngt som jag funderade på mkt i början av den  här IVF, men tydligen glömt bort på vägen. Så där satt jag o funderade på vad jag skulle göra nu. Laga mat? Städa? Jobba? Va? Det var som om jag helt plötsligt inte visste vart jag skulle gå. Allt i vår värld har varit så fokuserat på den här IVF:en. O nu var det inte slut.

Trots min förvirring så kände jag lättnad över att jag inte blivit helt förkrossad. Det var inte som om marken öppnade sig under mig o jag föll handlöst. Jag var inte fylld av sorg o tårar. Himlen trillade inte ner på  mig. För på ngt vis vet vi ju nu varför det inte fungerat under de två år vi försökt själva. Det är skalen på mina ägg som är för hårda. Det är en slags lättnad att få reda på det. Sen är det ju ledsamt att inget ägg blev befruktat. Men nästa gång kommer det att bli det. För då blir det ICSI.

Well, we still have to see our consultant but the likelihood of us having any more of our own children is becoming less and less. My Ige is very high, in layman’s terms which is the only means I have of understanding it and explaining it means that my body is constantly on red alert ready to fight off allergens and anything foreign which means it may attack an embryo and may explain the early miscarriages.  I am having treatment to see if they can bring it down so I had a second blood test today and await the results.

My husband’s sperm test was fine a few weeks ago – healthy, mobile, plenty of them etc.  Then the consultant at the Kilkenny Clinic suggested a second test, this is all very new apparently and I will provide more scientific info on it when I understand it somewhat better but basically they have found that the DNA of sperm in men over 40 can be very fragmented which can lead to problems. €400 later and we have discovered that yes, that is the case. 25.4% of the sperm fragmented which is high (apparently about 15 or less is normal).  In the letter we received, they state that conception would also be extremely unlikely and an IUI would be likely to be unsuccessful too.  They state that an ICSI (and I have yet to find out what this procedure entails) would be 1.5% more successful than an IVF, so between the two of us, the egg is surely broke and humpty dumpty will never be put back together again!

We are not deciding anything until we see the consultant but I am not sure I can put myself through an IVF.  This article mentioned in the Diary of a Miracle blog talks about the emotional and financial stresses of IVF, albeit somewhat sensationalist in tone.  Having had 3 early miscarriages, I’m not sure if I wouldn’t feel like I had miscarried again if the fertilised eggs didn’t implant and I really don’t think I can put myself through that. Yes, if everything went fine , how worth it all the stress would be but it is a huge what if.

On the other hand, having spoken to a lady who adopted 7 children from Russia, I feel so positive about adopting.  Yes, it will take 4 years but we know it will definitely (or 99% sure) have a happy outcome when we bring home one or two sons or daughters.  Somewhere there will be two little siblings in an orphanage who will become our beautiful cherished children and I know we will love them just as much as we do our birth children.

In an effort to encourage good corporate governance practices, the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is mooting a proposal to provide incentives to companies having a track record of proper compliance and reporting systems.

In a competitive business environment, the lack of incentives for volunteering to have good practices as part of the business are likely to discourage companies from adhering to clean and transparent practices, particularly when the companies with opaque practices start benefiting, senior functionaries of the institute said.

“There should be some incentive to companies having good corporate governance practices. The incentive can be in the form of some rebate in the bank interest rates or in the form of tax concessions. This incentive package would motivate those who are yet to have a code of governance and encourage the ones with a strict governance practice,” N K Jain, secretary and chief executive officer of the ICSI, said.

The institute has also prepared a set of recommendations, particularly in the wake of the new Companies Bill getting ready. These have been prepared keeping in mind the changing business environment and other issues that came up, particularly after the Satyam scam.

“The recommendations include the issue of number of directorships a person can occupy. There are several issues as far as the compliance is concerned that have to be brought into the Bill. We are hoping that some of our recommendations would get accommodated in the new Bill,” Jain said…(continue reading)

Eveniment de excepţie în cercetarea românească la Râmnicu Vâlcea

Centrul Naţional pentru Hidrogen şi Pile de Combustibil, o investiţie de 12 milioane lei, a fost inaugurat, joi, în cadrul Institutului de Criogenie şi Separări Izotopice din Râmnicu Vâlcea
Investiţia, finanţată în întregime de Guvernul României, este un proiect-pilot experimental pentru producerea surselor de energie alternativă.
“Pila de combustibil este un generator electrochimic ce foloseşte drept sursă de energie hidrogenul. Cine nu s-a lovit de inconvenientul, mai ales la telefonul mobil, de a i se descărca bateria şi a rămâne în mijlocul unei conversaţii? Pila de combustibil are o autonomie de cinci ori mai mare decât cea mai performantă baterie de acumulator litiu-ion şi se reîncarcă în câteva secunde. Deci autonomia unui telefon mobil va depăşi o lună, iar în ceea ce priveşte reîncarcarea, aceasta este foarte simplă şi constă în înlocuirea unui mic cartuş, procedeu asemănător celui de la stilourile cu rezervor.”, a prezentat succint importanţa investiţiei prof. Ion Ştefănescu, directorul Institutului din Râmnicu Vâlcea
Diferenţa faţă de o baterie acumulator constă în faptul că pila conţine un mic generator, în interiorul căruia, printr-o reacţie electrochimică sunt ,,smulşi” electroni atomilor de hidrogen – flux ce generează curent electric. Prin urmare, pila nu se descarcă atâta timp cât combustibilul este disponibil, iar reumplerea rezervorului durează doar câteva secunde, faţă de bateria clasică, pentru care reîncărcarea, ce durează câteva ore, este nevoie de o sursă de curent separată.
Un alt domeniu în care se prevede a fi folosite pilele de combustibil este ,,cel al producţiei de laptopuri”, dar cea mai importantă utilizare este în industria auto. Ion Ştefănescu afirmă că, în prezent , constructorii de automobile de la Volkswagen, ,,testează deja acest prototip de producere a energiei neconvenţionale”.
Prezent la inaugurare, Marius Enăchescu, subsecretar de stat al Autorităţii Naţionale pentru Cercetare Ştiinţifică susţine că investiţia inaugurată , joi , la Râmnicu Vâlcea”este un moment de excepţie în cercetarea românească”.În opinia sa, energia verde este ,,o investiţie pentru lumea viitorului”, în care este implicată, de acum şi ţara noastră. ,,Hidrogenul, ca şi sursă alternativă de energie, înseamnă mai puţină poluare, înseamnă investiţie în viitor. După America, Europa, şi prin intermediul României vine, astăzi, la înaintare în ceea ce priveşte cercetarea în acest domeniu de interes global. “, a mai declarat Enăchescu.
Piatra de temelie a Centrului Naţional pentru Hidrogen şi Pile de Combustibil a fost aşezată, în urmă cu 18 luni, de academicianul Marius Peculea, azi în vârstă de 82 de ani, care este, totodată, şi fondatorul Institutului de Criogenie şi Separări Izotopice din Râmnicu Vâlcea în anii 1970.
“Am să vă spun cum cred eu că se poate să ai succes: intâi trebuie să investeşti în ideea ta. Dacă tu crezi într-o idee, atunci eşti dator să investeşti ceva. A doua condiţie pentru a avea succes este să rişti. Noi, cei care lucrăm în cercetarea ştiinţifică, ştim că atunci când te apuci să studiezi la o temă nu ştii care va fi rezultatul cercetării tale. Este posibil să nu obţii un rezultat spectaculos. De aceea vă sfătuiesc să ţineţi seama de această formulă a succesului, pe care am descoperit-o după o viaţă de muncă!” , a spus academicianul Peculea .

A XV- a Conferinţă pe teme de criogenie şi separarea izotopilor a ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea
Şapte universităţi de prestigiu lume, oameni de ştiinţă din Coreea, Statele Unite, Marea Britania, Canada s-au reunit miercuri, în oraşul Călimăneşti la deschiderea celei de a 15 – a ediţii a Conferinţei Naţionale “Progrese în criogenie şi separarea izotopilor” organizată de Institutul Naţional de Cercetare pentru Tehnologii Criogenice şi Izotopice ICSI – Râmnicu Vâlcea.
“Este o plăcere pentru noi să participăm astăzi la a XV ediţie a conferinţei naţionale organizată de Institutul Vâlcean, cu o asemenea numeroasă participare de prestigiu internaţională. Institutul vâlcean are o deosebită reputaţie pe plan internaţional, este un participant important la proiectul reactorului de cercetare pentru termofuziune, care se construieşte la Cadarche. ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea are colaborări cu instituţii de cercetare din Marea Britanie şi Germania şi de asemenea are un rol important în dezvoltarea sectorului energetic din România”, a declarat Ionel Andrei, directorul la Autoritatea Naţională pentru Cercetare Ştiinţifică.
Ionel Andrei a mai adăugat că în acest an, deşi bugetul a alocat fonduri puţine domeniului cercetării în România, totuşi ţara noastră a beneficiat de fonduri structurale deosebit de importante, fiind stat membru al Uniunii Europene.
“Programul cadru 7 este o importantă sursă de finanţare”, a precizat directorul ANCS.
Unul dintre aspectele discutate la Conferinţa de la Călimăneşti a fost problema tritiului.
Tritiul este un izotop radioactiv al hidrogenului. Aceasta înseamnă că tritiul este instabil şi emite radiaţii atunci când se dezintegrează. În
mediu, cea mai întâlnită formă a tritiului este apa tritiată, molecule de apă în care unul (sau ambii) din atomii de hidrogen este radioactiv.
Tritiul este periculos atunci când ajungi în contact cu el, fie că îl mănânci, îl bei, îl respiri sau îl absorbi prin piele. Tritiul nu este considerat un pericol extern, ci un pericol intern. Tritiul rezistă în mediu o perioadă lungă de timp, având perioada de înjumătăţire de aproximativ 12 ani. Are şi unele proprietăţi neobişnuite – circulă foarte rapid în mediu, este asimilat repede de oameni, mecanismele de schimb cu alţi atomi de hidrogen sunt accelerate, se poate lega de molecule organice din corpul nostru în timpul formării celulelor şi al metabolismului celular
Radiaţiile cauzează cancer, malformaţii congenitale şi efecte genetice. Tritiul produce radiaţii în interiorul corpului atunci când este ingerat sau inhalat. Radiaţiile au efecte cancerigene, şi mutagene şi aceste efecte apar chiar şi în urma celor mai mici expuneri.
“Reactoarele din clasa CANDU (Canadian Deuterium Uranium) funcţionează cu apă grea şi dezvoltă emisii de tritiu, care aşa cum s-a precizat este o formă radioactivă a hidrogenului, a cărui perioadă de înjumătaţire este de 12,3 ani, considerate de specialiştii din domeniul nuclear ca fiind semnificative. Operatorii acestui tip de reactoare sunt reuniţi în CANDU Owners Group Inc (COG), fiind reprezentate în “Club” societăţi din România, Pakistan, India, China, Argentina, Coreea de Sud şi Canada. Prin urmare, România utilizează la Cernavodă unicul reactor nuclear de tip CANDU din Europa. Tritiul este prezent sub doua forme: în stare gazoasa şi în apa tritiată. El este depozitat în containere speciale, concepute pentru transportul şi deschiderea uşoară, cu multe precauţii, avînd în vedere că presiunea iniţiala a tritiului poate creşte foarte mult în incinte. Tritiul este folosit ca amplificator de explozie la aşa-numitele bombe termonucleare”, a declarat Ion Ştefănescu directorul general al ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea..
“Centrala Nucleară de la Cernavodă eliberează cantităţi mari de tritiu în Dunăre în fiecare zi. Cantităţi mari ajung, de asemenea, şi în aer.
Cantităţile de tritiu eliberate de reactoarele CANDU HWR de la Cernavodă sunt foarte mari, ajungând până la de 100 de ori mai mari decât cantităţile de tritiu eliberate de alte tipuri de reactoare nucleare.” – menţionează un raport Greenpeace
ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea va aplica la Cernavodă tehnici de recuperare a tritiului.
„La reactorul nuclear de la Cernavodă este deja pregătită documentaţia în proporţie de 70% cu privire la prima instalaţie de recuperare a tritiului, care va fi folosită pentru Reactoarele 1 şi 2. Din acest punct de vedere, ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea a câştigat deja mai multe licitaţii cu privire la protecţia mediului în zonele Călăraşi şi Târgu Jiu. În perioada următoare, institutul urmează să participe şi la Salonul de Cercetare şi Inventică Bucureşti 2009.” – a apreciat prof. univ. dr. Ioan Ştefănescu, directorul general al ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea.

ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea a continuat seria proiectelor de succes în ultimii ani. ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea este astfel membru fondator în două reţele europene de cercetare, care au creat consorţiul ITER (preocuparea partenerilor vizând cercetări în domeniul separării tritiului şi deuteriului.
În consorţiul respectiv, ICSI Râmnicu Vâlcea reprezintă România, în timp ce ţările partenere – Germania, Franţa şi Italia – sunt reprezentate de institute de cercetare cu renume, respectiv Institutul de Tehnologie Karlsruhe (KIT) din partea Germaniei, Institutul de la Cadarache, pentru Franţa şi Agenţia Naţională Italiană pentru Noi Tehnologii, Energie şi Dezvoltare Economică, din partea Italiei. Cercetătorii din cele patru ţări şi-au unit eforturile pentru dezvoltarea energiei de fuziune, prin colaborarea la Programul ITER, care priveşte dezvoltarea Reactorului termonuclear experimental internaţional.
În acest sens, la conferinţa de miercuri a fost invitat să participe şi vicepreşedintele zonei de plasmă de la instalaţia similară ITER din Anglia. Cercetătorii încearcă acum recuperarea tritiului din materiale solide, lucru care se realizează deja în Anglia, în timp ce în România a fost recuperat până acum tritiul numai din lichide şi gaze, iar experienţa cercetătorilor englezi are, astfel o mare importanţă pentru cercetarea românească şi, implicit, pentru cea de la Râmnicu Vâlcea.
