Since this is my first blog post, I’m going to tell you a little about what I’ll be doing. I recently got a great idea for a new CoD2 map. I’m not going to tell you anything else since I’m not sure if I’ll even start making it. You’ll have to be patient to find that out. If I decide the project is worth my time, I’ll keep you up to date on how it’s going. I’ll post pictures of the map from time to time just to keep everyone interested. I’ll post about other stuff too. When I learn a new song on the guitar I’ll probably post it here. Maybe I’ll even post a program or two if I’ll feel like it. That is all for now.

Over the past few months many friends have come to me with business ideas, asking how, like me, they might start their own business. What I find is that instead of wanting to discuss steps they could take toward self-employment, they are more interested in delving into an endless list of reasons why it can’t be done. The list reasons ranges from cats to car issues, but mainly seem to come from genuine concerns about their own capabilities.

On my own path to self-employment—something I’m still in the process of figuring out—I quickly realized there were three things I’d have to accept. First, starting a business is not about being an expert. No one expects you to know the ins and outs of every aspect of your company from the very beginning. However, you’ll inevitably learn bits and pieces of web development, marketing, fundraising, project planning, and many other things you never dreamed you’d know about along the way. Still, that lack of initial understanding shouldn’t keep you from pursuing your idea. It’s your curiosity, hard-work, and willingness to take risks that is most important.

 Second, it’s better to focus on maximizing the skills you already have and improving upon those skills rather than worrying about what you don’t know. I am lucky to have a business partner with complementary skills. We’ve been able to divide up tasks according to skill sets and then ask each other (and sometimes other people outside the organization) for help with all the rest. Don’t have a business partner? Well, who amongst your friends, family, and professional contacts have the skills you need? Give them a call, send them an email, ask them to a cup of coffee sometime. You’d be surprised at the amount and quality of information that comes from that cup of joe.

Finally—something that is a bit of an overlap between the first two—you must not feel intimidated by what you don’t know. Or rather, let that intimidation get the best of you. If I were to let the fact that I didn’t know how to create videos or podcasts stop me from starting a media organization, we may have never gotten off the ground at all. If you have a clear vision for what you want to see built and are willing to work for it and learn as you go, the rest will eventually fall into place. There are countless people and resources out there to fill in the gaps and help you with what you don’t know. Stop merely thinking about your idea, and instead go do it!

So I had my business plan but needed to get some feedback. I asked my Laura (girlfriend) to review it and give me some feedback on if it gave her an idea of what it was I wanted to do and how I was going to do it. Think she read the 1^st page and gave up so decided not to mix business and family. I asked my MD at the media company to review it and his feedback was positive although he said it was a Myspace.

This did set me back as it was nothing like Myspace although I knew my business plan was not clear. So back to the drawing board, back to basics and back to the late nights. I finally had after a week of editing a 2 year business plan I felt could be used to navigate my way through the build, launch and year 2.

Now I had the idea written down I needed to test the concept, find out how much people are willing to pay for the service, what main features they would need and how they wanted to be heard. I approached all the talented people and got some great feedback about the concept and the business model I should adopt. I factored this into my Income Statement and Balance sheet and sorted out my start-up cost minus site development, sales forecast cash flow, marketing budget, income statement and balance sheet.

I remember sitting in the office with my plans in front of me, the plans that where in my head. The sense of achievement was overwhelming and I knew I was onto something. Referred to my start-up checklist and the next task were to seek funding.

I knew my business plan was strong and I would be heard more with it but I still needed to find an avenue to get this to market. Business Angel, Private investors, grants, loans. I had to consider two factors 1) how much of my business was I prepared to give up just so I can get it to market 2) Do I want to be my own boss or work to repay whatever method I choose. Even with this in mind it was difficult to understand the full scale of what I was trying to achieve. I didn’t know how much a site like mine would cost and I had no idea where to start so how can I ask for money if I don’t know how much I needed.

At the end of my research I hope to have a solution with some of the features below:

In poco tempo “le 24 ore senza immigrati” hanno riunito 5.000 membri su Facebook e sono sorti dieci comitati locali. L’appuntamento è per il primo marzo 2010.

So I was working hard at improving my writing, spending my time reading the books from the internet and trying my hand at different types of writing. Everything was going well until the rest of my life began to take over (something which is all too common for the spare-time writer).

Work was hectic and I was also rehearsing for Calamity Jane – A musical set in the Wild West. The show was performed in the Bridewell Theatre in Blackfriars in the last week of November 08. I played Danny Gilmartin, a (slightly wet) lieutenant who found himself involved in a love triangle with Calamity Jane and Katie Brown. It was a fantastic show which was loads of fun but it was very time intensive and the writing came to a standstill.

After the show I promised myself I would start writing again but the festive period took over and I spent most of December catching up with neglected friends and going to Christmas parties. I found myself occasionally glancing towards the untouched books on my bookshelf, but I just couldn’t find the time to pick them up.

Now, I’m generally quite a motivated person, but sometimes I need a kick up the backside to get going again. That ‘kick’ came in the form of a new book idea, which popped into my head a few days after Christmas. It still amazes me how an idea can come from nowhere and change everything.

In my bolt of lightning I saw Clandestine’s protagonist – Jack Jones. He came to me as a completely formed character, in a scene which now appears around three quarters of the way through the novel.

I used Jack Jones as a starting point and asked myself how he had arrived at this place. I found some plain sheets of A4 paper and started brainstorming. Before I knew it, four hours had flown by and I was feeling mentally drained but exhilarated. The idea had potential.

The next day I took the almost forgotten books down from my bookshelf and started reading through the relevant chapters. I knew I was embarking on a huge project, but despite this, I was convinced that it was a good idea. I ignored the daunting feeling in my stomach and made the decision that this was the project that I would be spending the next year of my life on. The seeds for Clandestine had been sown.

As lojas de museus tem excelentes dicas de presentes, que vão desde posteres de obras de arte até artigos divertidos e simples como a sacola da imagem, com alguma transparência e pode ser utilizada a qualquer momento do dia.

There’s probably a rare wheel thread on most major forums, always great to check out. For the last year or so I’ve been looking for a set of wheels I had back in the day, Momo I.D.E.A.s. There weren’t many around back then and these days they just NEVER seem to pop up, ever. Yea, they’re goofy looking, which is the primary reason I want another set now. This pic is from around 1993 or so, the black Talon was mine on OZ mesh, the Capri was a family fun car for whoever wanted to take it out and it wore 14″ I.D.E.A.s. I knew a guy named Matt back then that had a set of 15s on a Corolla FX16 hatch, I loved that car. If a set of 4×100 15s popped up around tax refund time I think my head would explode.

Set the <idea installation dir>\bin\idea.exe.vmoptions to:

Just in case you cant get it to work because an error is displaying everytime you start IDEA.  “JVM not started…”

Use the idea.bat to start it.

edit the batch file in this line:

IF “%IDEA_JDK%” == “” SET IDEA_JDK=%JAVA_HOME%

This points to the correct JAVA_HOME installation dir.

If you have D: drive, edit also caching in the idea.properties

idea.system.path=D:/Temp/idea8/system

Winona is a ghost town again.  Sometimes it’s called “summer”.  It’s worse than summer now, though.  At least it’s green, warm, and the sun doesn’t go down at 4 in the afternoon.  A person just feels limited if they can’t go outside and enjoy the day past 4PM.

This Thanksgiving holiday will be plenty of time to definitely maybe start writing the movie again.  It’s priority number 5 behind researching stereotyping in advertising, finishing up my portfolio for advertising, painting some stuff I’m a bit behind on, and creating a webpage for my internet com class.

I’m looking forward to seeing some family members I haven’t seen in a long while.  You know, those family members you only see 2-4 times a year.  They’re the ones I actually look forward to seeing.  I highly doubt the family members I could care less about seeing know how to operate computers.

What’s that?  Bloody Mary’s you say?  Why yes, I believe I’ll have 3.  At twin cities prices though.  I just hope we don’t run into that prick of a bartender that looked like a skinnier Jon Gosselin, but was still just as big of a douche bag.  If you don’t want a 5% tip or less, then I suggest smiling at the very least, and not looking so deliberately disinterested.  And I wonder how those people are hired for jobs before me….?  Someone please tell me if my fly is down or if I, for some reason, have a swastika on my cheek next time I go in for an interview, please.

A general problem I have is keeping track of liberal arguments. If I wrote them down here, I could refer back to them any time I needed that argument again. Also, if I am going to visit a place with a lot of Creationists, it would be good to prepare some things to say to them.

Le persone devono urgentemente imparare a tornare protagoniste sia dell’informazione che dell’azione civica, e non, anzi, mai seguaci o fans dei ‘personaggi forti’ che sanno, che possono, che contano. I ‘personaggi forti’ devono invece divenire ‘piccoli’ al servizio dei forti, che siete voi persone. Ecco i passaggi per arrivare a ciò:

Ogni volta che voi pubblico ascoltate o leggete il lavoro di chi vi informa, dovete imporvi di pensare che si tratta solo di fonti, non di oracoli, ma fonti da ascoltare a debita distanza, fra le tante altre fonti che ascolterete. Dovete arrivare al punto dove non esista più la relazione col giornalista ‘personaggio/divo/esperto’, che va visto sempre come un vostro consulente fra i tanti. Per far comprendere a chi legge quale dovrebbe essere l’atteggiamento esteriore e interiore di una cittadinanza sana nei confronti di chi li informa, chiuque egli/ella sia, vi chiedo di immaginare come il Consiglio di Amministrazione di un gigante industriale – per es. la Microsoft Corporation – si relaziona con un loro consulente. Lo convoca, gli dice senza troppe storie “Prego si faccia avanti, ci dica”, lo ascolta e poi “Bene, grazie, si accomodi”. Punto. E il consulente saluta e si mette da parte piccolo e secondario, per lasciare ai manager l’importante compito esecutivo. Ora, un pubblico di cittadini sani deve sentirsi esattamente come il management, cioè al centro del potere e delle decisioni, e deve ridurre gli odierni ‘giornalisti/divi/esperti’ al ruolo del consulente.

Oggi purtroppo accade l’esatto contrario: il ‘giornalista/divo/esperto’ troneggia, sentenzia, lancia diktat, e il pubblico piccolo piccolo lo adora, lo ammira, e, peggio, si raggruppa in fans club e ‘parrocchie’ dal seguito quasi sempre acritico. Ed è tristemente emblematico che l’immaginario colloquio che ho sopra descritto sia nella realtà di oggi esattamente il modo in cui, al termine della serata-dibattito con l’esperto/divo, viene invece accolto il pubblico quando chiede timidamente la parola: i ‘personaggi’ gli dicono “Prego si faccia avanti, chieda”, e poi “Bene, grazie, si accomodi”, cioè torni piccolo piccolo, marginale. I ‘personaggi’ troneggiano, firmano autografi, sono al centro. Voi ai margini. Assurdo, deleterio.

In questo modo la gente è solo sospinta a rimanere secondaria, cioè si annulla e non crescerà mai. La gente deve ripensarsi Consiglio di Amministrazione, e mettersi sempre al centro. (da L’Informazione è Noi)

Nell’azione civica/politica, per contrastare (se ancora sarà possibile) il Potere, ecco i passaggi:

- Studiarlo a fondo, per capire chi veramente è (non è la Casta, non è la mafia, non è la Chiesa), che storia ha avuto, fin dove è arrivato, con quali armi si muove, cosa sta pianificando per il futuro.

- Formarci in un esercito di attivisti di ampiezza nazionale. Mettere quindi da parte le differenze che separano i nostri gruppi che formano i Movimenti, cioè rinunciare ai nostri individualismi per un fronte comune, unico, compatto, disciplinato, implacabile di attivisti al lavoro ovunque, sempre, con linee guida universali, sempre le stesse e con metodi in perenne evoluzione.

- Capire che cosa, in questo periodo della Storia, innesca il cambiamento, quale vettore, quale tipo di interazione umana. Individuare queste chiavi di svolta con precisione, così come si isola una molecola benefica.

- Studiare di conseguenza una comunicazione immensamente abile per attirare l’attenzione del mondo della GENTE COMUNE.

- Studiare i metodi per rendere la comunicazione gradevole ma penetrante.

- Diffonderci nei LUOGHI DELLA GENTE COMUNE, implacabili, pazienti, tutto l’anno, per tentare di creare un consenso opposto a quello oggi dominante usando quei metodi attentamente studiati. Essere presenti in modo massiccio nelle scuole e università.

- Sopra ogni altra azione, ci deve essere il tentativo da parte degli attivisti di trovare l’ANTIDOTO alla paralisi della partecipazione dei cittadini alla polis. Se non sapremo sbloccare la cittadinanza paralizzata, inattiva, apatica di fronte a qualsiasi scandalo e persino orrore, abbiamo perso, perché quella paralisi è stata, è, e sarà l’arma finale del Potere.

- Essere molto ben finanziati, cioè cercare e ingaggiare sponsor ‘illuminati’ capaci di vedere il vantaggio di lungo termine di un mondo più giusto. Senza finanziamenti è inutile persino pensare al cambiamento.

- Sapere che è una strada in salita, poiché si tratta di invitare milioni di persone a scelte impopolari, a rinunce, a mutazioni di stili di vita, ma a saper vedere però la CONVENIENZA FINALE di un mondo più in equilibrio. Cioè dirgli: oggi il Sistema ti illude di guadagnare subito dieci ma non ti rendi conto che ti fa perdere mille; noi ti diciamo che ti conviene perdere oggi dieci ma guadagnare mille nel tuo futuro. Questa è la logica di ogni speranza.

Non c’è altra strada. Non c’è.

Si hay un color que desde hace varias temporadas no pasa de moda, es el morado. Tanto es así que ya nos hemos acostumbrado a llevarlo en cualquier prenda y los complementos no son menos. He estado experimentando con organza, crochet y cadena plateada y ha salido esto:

Las cuentas están cubiertas con tejido de crochet y la flor esta hecha de la misma forma. La cadena no es nada pesada por lo que se hace muy cómodo de llevar. Además el cierre se hace con un lazo de organza por lo que nos aseguramos que no va a producir ningún tipo de alergia.

Since I have been gone Halloween has come and gone.  But, I thought I would just update you all on our festive Halloween. 

I hung Indian Corn on the door, a basket of gourds on the table, and fall flowers in vase.  I even stuck bloody handprints to a window and hung a giant spider in the living room.  Yes, I love this time of year.  Here was a new addition (that we love!) for our porch:

We also carved pumpkins for the front steps.  The pictures were mostly fuzzy, but here is a lit up shot of my witch:

Hoy comienzo a utilizar IntelliJ IDEA de forma profesional, es decir, con proyectos reales. He utilizado este entorno antes, y creo que es uno de los más avanzados y rápidos. Soy usuario de Eclipse desde hace 2 años, y la verdad es que siempre a tenido problema de estabilidad. A veces, eclipse daba errores muy extraños que se solucionaban con volver a ejecutar la aplicación.

A Fiat prepara um reforço para a minivan compacta Idea. O monovolume receberá mudanças significativas no ano que vem, provavelmente chegando já como linha 2011. O modelo deve ganhar modificações para não perder mercado para o Nissan Livina e para o futuro Citroën C3 Picasso. O flagra foi feito pelo blog Motor Gerais.

As mudanças do Idea chegam para deixá-lo com visual mais elegante e melhor acabamento. Por fora, faróis, lanternas, para-choques, tampa do porta-malas e capô têm desenho vindo do italiano Lancia Musa. As maçanetas devem ser as mesmas do Palio e as rodas de liga leve ganham novo design. O interior pode ganhar ainda um novo painel, semelhante ao do Idea europeu.

Mecanicamente, a minivan ganhará opção de transmissão automatizada Dualogic na versão HLX, além do oferecido atualmente pela Adventure. Os motores ainda não mudam, aguardando a chegada do 1.4 Evo no Punto e no 327 e do 1.6 Tritec no Bravo.

A minivan renovada chega no primeiro semestre, provavelmente como linha 2011.

Never stops getting better

Much of the work I do is valued by the “creativity” of the end result.

Clients sometimes don’t appreciate that most of the skill in getting to the end result has more to do with knowing the right questions to ask and in what sequence to ask them.

So then, you get an idea and you think it’s the very best, and you know that the client will love it, and you feel great. So how do you make it better?

First thing is to realise that falling in love with your own erection is foolish.

Second thing is that working with a team of creatives will always and I mean always make your idea better. Always work with copywriters and  creative teams that recognise that a team will always out perform an individual. And while I’m on the subject run a mile from any copywriter who introduces themselves as “award-winning”. The truth is that they may have picked up the award 20 years ago- but a team of creatives made it happen.

One of the best Creative Directors I ever worked with won loads of awards – but always let the team pick them up, and never mentioned the fact to anyone - he  just knew how good he was and was content with that.

So have your ideas and then find away of developing them with others.
