Many systems for identity management suffer from severe security, privacy and usability issues. Prev

Many systems for identity management suffer from severe security, privacy and usability issues. Previously I discussed how the difference between membership and ownership contributes to the resulting “Identity Crisis”. Today I will argue that another fundamental question – “What is identity (anyway)?” – is not properly addressed by identity management systems yet.

First note that identity is not absolute. An identity describes an entity (a person, a computer, an organisation, etc.) within a specific scope. More formally: The identity of an entity within a scope is the set of all characteristics that have been attributed to this entity within that scope. For example, you may have one identity within the scope of your job, containing information such as your employee number, and another identity within the scope of your family, containing information on the food you like. Identities are therefore only valid in a specific scope.
If an identity contains many characteristics, it may uniquely identify a particular entity within a scope. However, with only a few characteristics, many entities are likely to match.

It immediately follows that entities have, in general, multiple identities. These identities may partly overlap, but can also be mutually inconsistent. I have blue eyes in all contexts (ie scopes), but may go by different names, nicknames, in different contexts. In extreme cases, people are known to live parallel lives. Sometimes, hardly anybody knows that particular identities in different scopes belong to the same entity.

To uniquely identify entities, one needs to rely on identifiers, not identities. This distinction between identity and identifier is important, and not always properly understood. The confusion is understandable, because in common parlance identity is almost synonymous with personal name, which in turn is understood to be a unique identifier. Again, identifiers (e.g. a user name) are only valid (and guaranteed to be unique) within a scope.

Identity is not unique. Even within a single scope, people may have several different identities. Within the scope of my family I am not only a father (to my kids) but also a husband (to my wife). Moreover, the identity of an entity is perceived differently by different people, or perceived differently by the same people at different times or in different contexts. Someone may be trusted by one person, but not by another, or only within a certain context.

Virtual identities, in the virtual world, can be connected to entities in the real world, but this connection may be loose. For example, computers behind an IP address may be replaced. Ownership of game characters or avatars may be transferred between people over time. In fact, there is quite a large amount of trade in such virtual identities. Likewise, functional roles within companies may look, to external observers, as entities with a particular identity, but different people may actually be assigned to such a role over time.

Identity is also dynamic. Assertions about someones age change when time passes. Your financial situation changes over time, so do your
friendships.

Identities may exist long after an entity ceases to exist.
The lifetime of an identity does not correspond to the lifetime of the associated entity. Most of the time identity information is not updated or deleted after it has become inapplicable. Again, this introduces a privacy risk. But sometimes claims about an entity actually need to be kept long after the entity itself disappears. For accountability reasons, service providers store usage information for quite some time, sometimes several years.
The situation is reminiscent to the difference in lifetimes between keys and certificates (themselves a possible part of an identity). A Certificate needs to be kept long after the key it certifies has expired, to allow parties to verify the signatures made with that key.

Identity is not only what you want to reveal about yourself, but also what others conclude, believe, find out about yourself. This data may be wrong, become invalid over time, be misrepresented, or be misguiding, etc. In other words, an identity does not necessarily correspond to reality. Moreover, it shows that an identity has many owners: it is not only owned by the identity it describes, but also collected and therefore owned by others. A fine example of this are your health care records that are being collected by GPs, doctors and other health care personnel. This also has important privacy ramifications by the way.

Consequences

Instead of one single identity containing all characteristics taken from all scopes, it is therefore more natural to view identity as a collection of multiple identities (a set of sets), each with their own scope. Note, by the way, that this nicely aligns with the understanding that privacy ensures that information about a person does not leak from one scope into another.

When scopes merge (e.g. if companies merge) identities may clash. If an entity has an identity in both scopes they may not get merged at all, and as a result the scope perceives two entities where there is only one. For example, a person may have an account with two different SPs, both of which require the user to use an SP-specific IdP. How to determine what an entity’s identity is in the new scope when the two SPs merge? Or when the two IdPs merge?

The fact that identities remain to exist long after the entity dies results in a wealth of personal information stored in many
places, leading to privacy risks for users. It may also result in IdPs giving out incorrect claims, damaging their reputation of a trusted partner that is always right. Furthermore, claims may continue to exist indefinitely, even after identity information is deleted. When the claim of an old identity still exists and a new identity is created with the same identifier, these two may seem to refer to the same entity, while this is not the case.

Managing identities does not only mean handling new and fixed identities within one scope, but also handling the complex situations of changing identities in changing scopes, and managing the different perceptions of identity within the same scope. This is a challenge for identity management systems, to be solved in a way that is both user-friendly and secure.

One of my customer’s team member had destroy the Hyper-V Cluster by mistake. He formatted the cluster nodes without evict them before doing that . The nodes of the clsuter used to be part of old cluster that was destroyed by mistake.

I tried to build the nodes again from the scratch and Create new cluster, When I run the validation wizard I got this error:

Cluster disk with identifier (identifier) has a persistent reservation on it ,the disk might be part of other cluster. removing the disk from other validation set.

My SAN is HP EVA. The Cluster is not able to see any of my LUNS although I can see them from disk management and can’t create the cluster.

This error due to the fact that the LUNs still keeping the old identifiers from the old cluster, You have to use Cluster command line to clear the reservation by that command:

cluster.exe node %nodename% /clear:disknumber

Now everything should work fine and you can pass the validation wizard

My name is Dave Room
Some people call me David,
dahveed, Dee Room,
Dee Rizzle, Room, Rumi,
rheumatism, even romper
I identify as a black man
a person of color
and a citizen of the world
When I was young
the other black kids called me
banana man, yellow man,
piss colored,
light bright damn near white,
and my personal favorite Old Yeller
which recalls a Disney movie
about a boy and big yellow stray dog
in Post-Civil War Texas
The slurs stung me deeply
a transracial adoptee
with white parents
I struggled with identity issues
through college

But I’m clear now
My most important identifier
is Melia’s papa
She is my inspiration
and motivation.
She is the reason I am writing today.
Things about me
I used to be corporate
management consulting and then the internet
had dreams of a house the hill and semi-retirement at 40
now i work for pennies on the corporate dollar
at a nonprofit I co-founded
Bay Localize
I like hikes and bikes,
have a car but avoid using it
I think of myself a ovo-lacto-vegetarian.
But more than that
I am a Buddhist vegetarian
which means that I eat
whatever (within reason)
my host provides.
I do not watch television or have cable
I pick up trash at parks
If I am shooting some trash into a basket
I always pick up whatever I miss
and shoot again and again until I make it
Sometimes I dry my hands on my pants
Like growing food and medicine
and for Melia to see that
food comes from the Earth rather the store
I do yoga in room heated to 108 degrees

Blah blah blah
I could go on
But today really isn’t about me
Its about our children and nature
I think of kids and nature together
because they don’t have a choice in the matter
And its about you and what you do

By Special Correspondent
03 August 2009

FOUR men were named and shamed and are being punished for performing obscene acts with an underaged boy. The cases of two others are coming up.

The New Paper reported this on Wednesday. That night, a reporter of the paper went online, posing as a 14-year-old boy seeking an older friend.

This was on the same gay website used by the six men to meet the 15-year-old involved.

So, did the court case make users of the website wary?

Not at all, going by this test.

Within 10 seconds, The New Paper reporter’s computer screen was flooded with offers of sex.

There were so many pop-up windows of conversation that the reporter could not cope with the volume of men eager to meet the ‘teen’.

In all, about 50 individuals got in touch within a five-hour period, spread over two days.

When the teen said he wanted to buy a new handphone, the buayas (sex predators) were quick to offer money, in exchange for sex acts.

Were they concerned that their target was underaged?

Their only concern was over keeping it quiet. You cannot tell anybody, they insisted.

No one warned the teen off the website, or tell him he was too young to be there.

One, just one, seemed to have a change of heart. This person too had started out like all the others, but after chatting for a while, said sex would be illegal and offered to give the teen $50 or a used handphone, if that was all he wanted.

Of course, the others were willing to hand over cash as well, and much more. But they all wanted sex.

The ages they gave ranged from 18 to 59, and they wanted to find out the boy’s height, weight, race and something about his looks.

Some were more direct and asked: ‘How much?’

They even came out with what could be incriminating information.

Two of them said they already had sex with boys as young as 14, when asked if they had any prior experience.

One man, who claimed he was a 35-year-old named Jackson, wanted to go beyond paying the teen to service him. He asked about younger siblings.

After finding out that the teen had younger brothers aged 9 and 7 (invented as bait), he offered $200 in total to perform lewd acts on them.

Did the predators know they would be committing an offence?

They all acknowledged that the acts suggested were against the law. They then told the teen to be ‘discreet’.

The offers ranged from $30 to $350 for sex with the 14-year-old.

One person wanted the boy to ‘pleasure him’ while he took photographs. He was willing to pay $100.

Two others offered their handphones as payment for being pleasured.

One wanted to set the 14-year-old up with a 35-year-old man and was ready to pay $350.

He claimed to be a 32-year-old man, and left his handphone number and name as Roy.

For that amount, he wanted the boy to stay with him for a week at a hotel.

Online talk is one thing, but would they go further and meet their prey face to face?

The New Paper reporter posing as a teen set up meetings with four men.

They were to meet outside Toa Payoh Stadium on Thursday. All four turned up.

One man even waited for hours.

Apparently, most of them wanted a quick deal.

While still online, many had asked to meet the same night, offering to drive by and pick the boy up, though it was 11pm.

Later, all agreed to meet a day or two afterwards, but only after much reassurance that they would not be let down.

When it came to the location, they were not as picky.

Some offered their cars and homes, while others asked if the boy’s place was available.

The one who wanted to engage in sexual activities with the 14, 9 and 7-year-olds even asked if the boys’ parents would be out another day.

When crocs feed on small prey, their hunger knows no bound, it seems.

What nerve! They show up in public place for prey

WOULD men who prey on boys online go so far as to meet them in public?

Yes, they would, going by the mini test done by The New Paper on Sunday.

After chatting with a reporter posing as a teen, the four men were individually asked to meet the boy at Toa Payoh Stadium at different times.

Each was told to carry a newspaper in their hands as an identifier. One insisted on bringing a magazine instead.

The reporter waited at a distance to observe the men at the appointed times.

Each of the four arrived at the appointed time, with the newspaper or magazine in hand.

They had not been shown any pictures of their prey – ‘a 14-year-old boy’.

Nor did they have his contact number. All they had was his e-mail.

Yet, one of them waited for almost 11/2 hours, while the reporter watched discreetly from a distance.

No direct contact was made with any of the buayas (crocodiles in Malay and slang for sex predators) for safety reasons.

Two of the buayas appeared to be in their 20s, while one was in his 30s. Another looked in his 40s.

The highest bidder

The first appeared around 2.30pm.

The man, the oldest among those who turned up, held a folded newspaper in his hands and walked quickly into Toa Payoh Stadium, while surveying the people sitting near the entrance.

He wore khaki-coloured pants which had been rolled up to his ankles, a white polo T-shirt and slippers.

About 15 minutes later, he dashed out of the stadium, looking around anxiously as though expecting someone to pounce on him.

In his webchats, he had asked us to call him Henri.

He had also made the highest offer.

‘If you can make me very happy, I’ll give you $300,’ he said.

The longest wait

The second man seemed the most desperate of the lot. He waited for 1 1/2 hours for his prey to turn up.

The man, who called himself Dave, aged 35, was 15 minutes late for his appointment.

During the previous day’s chat, he had given the reporter posing as a boy his handphone number.

When he could not be spotted in the crowd, the reporter called him.

He was very well-spoken. He confirmed he had arrived and was standing beside his car as agreed, in a white T-shirt and grey shorts.

The man standing beside the silver car was chubby and looked nervous. At first he just stood there, apparently looking out for the schoolboy.

Then he moved to higher ground, craning his neck as though in search of something. When he got bored, he read a newspaper. Later, he lit a cigarette.

It was close to 5pm when he finally drove off, and even then his eyes continued to rove.

The double show

The third man, who claimed to be in his 20s, circled the area three times, before leaving.

All the while, his eyes seemed to be peeled for the young boy he had agreed to meet.

Later that night, the reporter received four e-mails from this man, expressing both disappointment and anger at the no-show.

He was told that another meeting would not be arranged as his reluctance to give a contact number made it easy for the ‘boy’ to be stood up.

The persistent man quickly gave his handphone number and MSN address.

All this took place via e-mail.

A meeting was arranged for the next day, at 4.45pm, and the man did as instructed – he turned up and lurked around, again without a newspaper.

The one from school

The last man, called Steve, went by the nickname ‘ampm’, and claimed to be a 23-year-old.

Our meeting had been arranged at 6.30pm.

He said he did not want to be late as he was coming from school.

Wearing white sneakers, jeans and a blue short-sleeve shirt, he walked around for 10 minutes before pulling a magazine out of his black backpack.

He then sat on the concrete bench outside the stadium for five minutes before making a call and walking off.

Later, he too sent an e-mail saying he had waited in vain.

ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange)

DNS (Domain Name Service)

DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)
Sebuah metode transfer data melalui saluran telepon reguler.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol)

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)

TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)

URI (Uniform Resource Identifier)

URL (Uniform Resource Locator)

Webmail
Fasilitas pengiriman, penerimaan, maupun pembacaan email melalui sarana web.

World Wide Web

Unicode chara

Java identifiers

- Legal Identifiers

- Sun’s Java Code Conventions

- JavaBeans Naming Standards
• ถ้า properties เป้นประเภท boolean ละก็ prefix ของการ getter method ก็คือ is หรือ get เช่น isStopped, getStopped

Source File Declaration Rule

Today evening I was as usual coding something and the code which I had written had ->

$q1="INSERT into table_name(name,time,desc) VALUES('$name','$time','$desc')";

The code just refused to do what it was supposed to. Yeah you might have figured that out.
Some learnings from this were – First thing you should do when things don’t work in mysql is echo the query and try running it in phpmyadmin or at the prompt!
I have been using mysql for like 1.1/2 years now and I come across this outlandish error. Almost eccentric and I tried looking at he code again and again to check if i misspelt something or missed a comma, whatever….Good that there weren’t any mistakes there, bad it took too much time. I slept for 2 hours very frustrated !! Then I went to phpmyadmin. and there I see the “ERROR” – #1064

At once googled and there I see the answer to my problems – reserved words.
Mysql has reserved words ! Some words cannot be used as identifiers directly and to use them all we need to do is quote them.
i.e.
Query:
INSERT into table_name(name,`time`) VALUES('abcd','23443545')

The identifier quote character is the backtick (“`”). TIME is a reserved word. Check out Schema object names

huh…another life’s problem solved!

Bourne PE, Fink JL (2008) I Am Not a Scientist, I Am a Number. PLoS Comput Biol 4(12): e1000247. doi:10.1371/journal.pcbi.1000247

Here’s an excerpt:

Imagine a time when you and your complete scholarly output—papers, grant applications, blog posts, etc.—could be identified online and in perpetuity and returned in a variety of easy-to-digest ways. While ego comes into it as a driver to make this happen, measuring scientific career advancement is something that lacks good metrics in a digital world. Unless one has a truly unique name, applying such a metric is not possible now. Even with a unique name, what is the guarantee that all of our scholarly output will be captured by one source of that information? In the end, we as individuals are the only ones who reliably track our scholarly output. This situation is beginning to change, and, as we shall see, new metrics have the promise of much more than simply returning references to our collective life’s work as currently described by research papers, research proceedings, books, and book chapters. Although even a complete and current resume generated on demand would be a big step, if it could be returned in a variety of formats for a variety of purposes. These complete resumes are something many of us spend endless hours generating.

The idea of having our scholarly output properly characterized is not out of reach, since the articles we write are already identified uniquely by a Digital Object Identifier (DOI; discussed further below). A book or journal is identified by an ISBN, and citations are identified by PubMed identifiers, and so on. The ideas discussed here simply take this identification process for individual publications and citations to the point of providing unique descriptors for each author and to uniquely identify all of each author’s scholarly work.

Melanjutkan materi sebelumnya tentang error. Kita masih bahas beberapa cara mendeteksi error sederhana.

Semua Pesan Error Menyesatkan

Misalnya saat ini Anda lapar. Anda ingin makan telor dadar, tapi tidak tahu caranya. Lalu anda bertanya kepada teman Anda, “Men, cara bikin telor kaya gimana si???”.

Hu hu hu

public class HelloTolol {
public static void main(String  args[])
{
System.out.println(”Hello Tolol…!!!”);
}
}

Kalo belum ngerti bahas sama-sama yuks.

Setiap bahasa pasti punya aturan masing-masing. English punya Grammer, Indonesia punya EYD maka bahasa jawa eh java juga punya aturannya sendiri. Kalo dulu pas smu ada kata kata khusus seperti kata kerja, kata sifat dan kata kata ajaib lainnya maka di java kita bakal blajar kata kata ajaib seperti identifier dan keyword.

Key Word, apaan tuh?

Key Word itu artinya adalah kata kunci.

Writing history thus requires different conceptual frameworks. Idealists emphasize the importance of the historian’s role and his imagination in writing history. Robin G. Collingwood, perhaps the most important and comprehensive theorist for the idealist school, famously distinguishes between the outside and inside of an event. “Outside of an event” means physical masses and movements, while “inside of an event” means events that can only be explained by the thought of the historic actors involved. For example, Frederick II of Prussia’s invasion of Silesia in 1740 is ‘outside’, while Frederick II’s defiance of Prussia’s traditional alliance with the Habsburgs or his ignoring of the Pragmatic Sanction of 1713 (which his father had signed) will be ‘inside’. Both ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ must be investigated in any writing of history.

The ‘knowing’ aspect of idealism has come under critique from positivists, since this approach requires something unobservable – the actor’s mind – and the historian must empathize with the historic actor, whom he presumably never met. None of the above resembles scientific methodology, and is simply not verifiable. Idealists countered that so long they are careful and rigourous enough in examining the actor’s circumstances and known information (like letters, diaries, etc.), they can indeed tap into said actor’s mind, and their conclusions can be verified through other historians working on the same actor.

For the issue of causation, idealists tend to focus on one type of cause, regarding an event as a result of the will or intention of an actor. For example, Frederick II invaded Silesia because he believed the acquisition of the resource-rich province would improve Prussia’s strength, and Maria Theresa was too weak and inexperienced to stop him.

For history, this is adapted into looking for general laws that suggest that given the same causes, very similar effects will almost certainly occur. This is done by focusing on uniformities and similarities in the course of the human past and then locating the fixed relationships linking these same kinds of experiences. I.e. instead of looking at the English Peasant Revolt of 1381, positivists will look at all peasant revolts, and try to find general laws governing the cause and outcome of such an activity. Some of the more prominent names associated with positivism are Auguste Comte, Henry Thomas Buckle and John Stuart Mill.

On the issue of causation, positivists focus on one type of cause, regarding it at the level of preexisting events and conditions necessary for the occurrence of the main event under scrutiny. This often carries with it an idea of energy, derived from a kind of mechanistic notion in physics. For example, the combined effects of high taxation and low wages compelled English peasants to form the Peasant Revolt of 1381.

For the case of objectivity, positivists will try for the standards of the natural sciences, contending that any other option will result in a decrease in rigor and credibility. If scientific standards are not followed, then history as an academic discipline will become just another pseudoscience, like astrology. This assertion has come under some critique, since historians do not work under controlled, laboratory conditions, and thus cannot conduct repeatable experiments.

As usual, if you guys want to add on to/correct this, please comment.
