<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>After much frustration at the hands of joomla, and general bloated software realated apathy, the latest episode of Notbanksy&#8217;s blog brings you a complete idiot&#8217;s guide to javascript.</p>
<p>If like me, you&#8217;re a complete idiot when it comes to javascript, then this post is for you, my friend. While away endless hours marvelling at this little script I put together all by myself.</p>
<p>Actually, I copied and pasted bits and bobs from other scripts I found on the net till i found a combination that worked. Still, I&#8217;m glowing with self esteem now, so it&#8217;s time to share!<br />
<!--more--><br />
&#8220;Alright, shut up already!&#8221;, I hear you say, &#8220;what&#8217;s this ruddy script for, anyways?&#8221;</p>
<p>Well, simply put, it lies in wait for IE6, then does a runner&#8230; Or anything else you&#8217;re clever enough to tell it to do. In this instance, I have a piece of javascript which totally breaks my page in IE6, and I wanted to only show the script to other browsers. Conditional comments in my HTML did not seem the way to go as I wanted to remove rather than add something when IE6 was detected.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s very simple&#8230; so no laughing.</p>
<p><span style="color:#339966;"><code>function detectBrowser()<br />
{<br />
var version=parseFloat(navigator.appVersion);<br />
if ((navigator.appName=="Microsoft Internet Explorer")<br />
&#38;&#38; (version&#60;=6))<br />
{<br />
return;<br />
}<br />
else {<br />
document.write('&#60;' + 'script');</code></span><br />
<span style="color:#339966;"><code>document.write(' type="text/javascript"');</code></span><br />
<span style="color:#339966;"><code>document.write(' src="' + 'path_to_file.js' + '"&#62;');<br />
document.write('&#60;/' + 'script' + '&#62;');<br />
}<br />
}<br />
detectBrowser()</code></span></p>
<p>It would be patronising to give a blow by blow account, but I like this solution because it relies on javascript &#8211; if the user already has js disabled, then the script is already redundant, and the desired effect is achieved by default.</p>
<p><code><code>

<p></code></code></p>

<description><![CDATA[So you developers, coders and Mac people don’t like Internet Explorer (IE) and you REALLY don’t like]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><img src="http://www.webaggression.com/images/blog/browsers.gif" alt="browsers" width="500" height="85" /><br />
So you developers, coders and Mac people don’t like Internet Explorer (IE) and you REALLY don’t like IE 6. I see it on Twitter, I see it in the media, I see it every where [<a href="http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/03/25/save-the-developers-stop-using-internet-explorer-6/">http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/03/25/save-the-developers-stop-using-internet-explorer-6/</a>]. I know some of you don’t like it because you prefer Safari or Firefox (I prefer Chrome). Some of you point out legitimate technical issues with IE6. Maybe it’s not as compliant as other browsers or maybe it doesn’t have as many cool plug-ins or the performance isn’t as impressive. Maybe you just don’t like The Man (Microsoft). Whatever the reason you hate IE or IE6, <strong>GET OVER IT.</strong></p>
<p>Personally, I am not a big fan of IE6. Although I use IE8 on a daily basis, it is not my default browser. I also use Chrome, Firefox and Safari every day. I say all that to point out that I am a seasoned browser user and I don’t have any hidden agenda here.</p>
<p>The push to “ban” IE is humorous. For you all that are promoting the ban…I love the big banners on your websites (attempting to force users to upgrade) and the little icons attached to your profiles (with the line through the IE logo). That’s all real cute. You seem to think that the visitors to your websites (your customers) need to change (are wrong), “let’s force the upgrade”. &#60;sarcasm&#62;That is a great customer service attitude people.&#60;/sarcasm&#62;</p>
<p>I know that other browsers are gaining market share. I have read articles that IE only has 50% of the browser market now. What market are you looking at? Most likely a tech site with a more tech savvy customer base. I maintain the analytics for well over 50 websites and while browsers like Firefox have gained ground Internet Explorer on average still has 75% of the traffic. Of IE’s 75% on average I would say IE6 is about 17%. That is a pretty large segment of your market. So do you want to ignore them because they have a crappy browser? I bet the clients you are developing the website for do not.</p>
<p>In a perfect world, everyone would have an updated browser that is fully compliant. <strong>We don’t live in a perfect world. </strong>Many of my clients still get traffic from IE5. Am I saying you have to support every browser forever&#8230;NO! But if you are getting significant traffic from the browser no matter what version, you need to support it.</p>
<p>What I am attempting to say here is…bite your lip, put in the IE exceptions and make the site work across all browsers. You may not like it, it may be a royal pain in the butt, but if you don’t you WILL risk losing a customer/client.</p>

But still you want to tell visitors who use this browser to be aware of the situation &#8211; here is a nice solution for that:</p>
<div class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 550px"><a href="http://code.google.com/p/ie6-upgrade-warning/"><img class=" " title="ie6 upgrade warning" src="http://ie6-upgrade-warning.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/example.png" alt="" width="540" height="260" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">This is what your users will see when they access the site using ie6</p></div>
<p>This is a nice project from google-code named <a title="ie upgrade warning" href="http://code.google.com/p/ie6-upgrade-warning/">ie6 upgrade warning</a> and it will do the trick for you.</p>
<p>All you need to do is to download the code and insert the following line into your html (under the &#60;head&#62; tag):<br />
&#60;!&#8211;[if lte IE 6]&#62;&#60;script src=&#8221;js/ie6/warning.js&#8221;&#62;&#60;/script&#62;&#60;script&#62;window.onload=function(){e(&#8220;js/ie6/&#8221;)}&#60;/script&#62;&#60;![endif]&#8211;&#62;</p>
<p>and don&#8217;t forget to change the script &#8220;src&#8221; attribute to where you&#8217;ve placed the code, and the same for the path on this section &#8220;window.onload=function(){e(&#8220;js/ie6/&#8221;)&#8221;</p>

<p>Okay, so the solution goes as below:</p>
<p>1) download the files needed for the solution from <a href="http://demo.avidindiainc.com/ie6pngfix/ie6PNGFixDownload.zip" target="_self">http://demo.avidindiainc.com/ie6pngfix/ie6PNGFixDownload.zip</a></p>
<p>2) There are 5 files in the directory after you unzip it. They are  blank.gif, iepngfix.htc, iepngfix_tilebg.js, iepngfix.php and .htaccess.</p>
<p>3) for solving the issue the two files blank.gif and iepngfix.htc are enough. i will explain them first and we&#8217;ll go for the rest files later.</p>
<p>4) Copy and paste iepngfix.htc and blank.gif into your website folder.</p>
<p>5) Copy and paste this into your website&#8217;s CSS or HTML:</p>
<div id="_mcePaste"><span style="color:#ff6600;">&#60;style type=&#8221;text/css&#8221;&#62;</span></div>
<div id="_mcePaste"><span style="color:#ff6600;">img, div { behavior: url(iepngfix.htc) }</span></div>
<div id="_mcePaste"><span style="color:#ff6600;">&#60;/style&#62;</span></div>
<p>6) now the other  files work as follow. If you want support for CSS1 background-repeat and background-position, make sure you include the add-on .JS file in your &#60;head&#62;:</p>
<p>&#60;script type=&#8221;text/javascript&#8221; src=&#8221;iepngfix_tilebg.js&#8221;&#62;&#60;/script&#62;</p>
<p>7) Suppose if it works offline but not online, in this case you may have a MIME type problem. You must ensure your server is sending the correct MIME type of &#8220;text/x-component&#8221; for .HTC files. Try one of these two easy fixes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Upload the &#8220;.htaccess&#8221; file from within this script&#8217;s download ZIP to your webserver, which will make Apache send the correct MIME type.</li>
<li>Instead of calling &#8220;IEPNGFIX.HTC&#8221; from your CSS, upload IEPNGFIX.PHP to the same folder and call that instead, which also sends the right MIME type.</li>
</ul>
<p>Thats all folks. I hope this solves your issue with ie6.</p>

background-color:red; <span style="color:#999999;">/* Todos os navegadores interpretam essa linha: Firefox, IE7 e IE6 */</span><br />
*background-color:blue; <span style="color:#999999;">/* Apenas IE7 e IE6 */</span><br />
_background-color:green; <span style="color:#999999;">/* Apenas IE6 */</span><br />
<p style="text-align:center;">

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>I need to use IE6 for some internal applications at work.  I have Firefox installed for regular Internet usage; occasionally I attempt to use the Internet with IE6&#8230; messages such as this are becoming pretty common now, but this one made me laugh.</p>
<p>The gist is: please use anything but IE6.</p>
