2nd April 2006

I have not had time to do anything to the car recently except buy another set of bumpers from eBay, so now I have a set for the front and rear. I still need the correct irons though to actually mount them. Doubtless there is a lot of cleaning up and polishing to do as well. Above are a couple of the photos I took for the agreed value part of the insurance policy. The angles hide most of the problems on the paintwork that still have to be sorted out. I should get to that as the weather improves though. At some point I did find enough time to fit the new ignition leads.

4th December 2005

On Friday I managed to find a locksmith with blanks for the ignition key and the petrol flap. On Saturday I changed the oil and filter as well as fitting the new tank air hose. The sump plug had been put on without the copper crush washer and so was very tight. The oil filter was even more difficult to remove, my nylon strap wrench started to break so I had to resort to stabbing it with a screwdriver and using that to unscrew it. I also removed the air filters and tried the chrome ones for size, they fit well enough apart from the outlet for the breather tube which fouls against the casting for the choke cable on the front carburettor. If I use the rear carburettor instead then it should be alright but I am not sure about the routing of the breather tube to ensure it does not interfere with either the throttle linkage above or the needle holder below. After removing the spark plugs I tried turning the ignition key and the engine turned over very smoothly with no nasty noises apparent. I have sourced some shorter bolts (which I still had to cut down) for the chrome air filters and bought a gallon of petrol ready to put in the tank. I am hoping that the order from GCP will arrive soon as it contains the gaskets for the air filters. I may well drill the third mounting hole in the chrome air filters (they come with only two drilled by default) as well as blocking off the unused breather hole (both filters have one).

I’ve started building the legs for the Exia. So far, one leg is built and partially painted.Of, course… this is the unpainted leg. I’ll update with a pic of the partially painted leg another time.

I love how well they recreated dock for the GN Blades in the hips. Very well engineered there. Better than the NG Exia’s setup for sure.

I also looked at the torso one night, and I realized something was off. Its not supposed to be all white. If you refer to WIP 00, I stated that the red parts of the Exia would be painted in Tamiya Park Green. This includes the oblique/side armor. Thus…

I gave a second coat after taking this picture, so the green looks a little cleaner than it does here. Let me know if you prefer it with or without green.

And now: an update on my state of affairs: My fall semester ends in three weeks. And I’m gonna be extremely busy in between that time. Most importantly, I’ll be trying to get myself into a four year college so I can go for my bachelor’s. Though I’ll (hopefully) be getting my Associate’s next month, I don’t want to, nor will I stop there. I just can’t. Not how things are today. That said, do not be surprised if I disappear for another month after this. Wish me luck!

A Cetane number is a measure of the fuel’s ignition delay, which is the time between the start

A Cetane number is a measure of the fuel’s ignition delay, which is the time between the start of injection and the start of combustion (ignition) of the fuel. In a particular diesel engine, higher Cetane fuels will have shorter ignition delay periods than lower Cetane fuels. Cetane numbers are only used for the relatively light distillate diesel oils. For heavy (residual) fuel oil two other scales are used CCAI and CII.

Generally, diesel engines run on a Cetane number from 40 to 55. Fuels with higher Cetane number, have shorter ignition delays, and provide more time for the fuel combustion process to be completed. Hence, higher speed diesels operate more effectively with higher Cetane number fuels. There is no performance or emission advantage when the Cetane number is raised past approximately 55. After that point, the fuel’s performance hits a plateau.

Most states adopt ASTM D975 as their diesel fuel standard and the minimum Cetane number is set at 40, with typical values in the 42-45 range. Premium diesels may or may not have higher Cetane, depending on the supplier. Premium diesels often use additives to improve Cetane number.

CVI contacted me the next day by email with a confirmation of the order and asked for my credit card details, which I phoned through as they have no secure electronic means. The air baffle turned up along with some new wiper arms and blades I ordered at the same time. However I have since learned that when I took the old arms off there was a splined hub that should have stayed on the spindles but instead got stuck in the wiper arms. This is going to be a right pain to sort out now. I fitted the air baffle yesterday and today I fitted the fuel hose and filter from the pump to the carbs, the shiny braiding does look good. Over the past few days I have also changed the cap, rotor, condenser and fan belt as well as replacing the battery in the car. The hub puller I won on Ebay turned up today as well.

Get Altitude Eben Pagan Home study course is the best online business course I’ve ever bought.

Get Altitude Eben Pagan Home study course is the best online business course I’ve ever bought. It was a little bit pricey, but I made my investment back and much more the very same day.

How I did it?

Simple, in Get Altitude Eben Pagan teaches that we should go where our customers are. He also teach that we should move the free line. It’s a nice name to say that you should give a freebie to your visitors. Whether it’s an ebook or a video or an audio file.

In fact, I hadn’t received the product yet since it’s a physical home study course. Eben does what he preaches, and he gave valuable content in his free videos. I applied what I learned right away. He calls this speed of implementation. I even talk about Eben on the phone about my achievement. This was my biggest day online ever. I’ve made more than $4000 in sales that day alone.

To learn more about Eben’s get altitude project, visit: get altitude

Oh, and I was about to forget, Eben just launched Ignition Business Startup for beginners who want to start their business online.

Transcending Talk with Tithe: An Open Letter to the Leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church Dea

Transcending Talk with Tithe: An Open Letter to the Leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

Dear Fellow Leader,

Again I have been impressed by the strong and succinct conviction of Elder Jan Paulsen (2009) as he articulated in the October 2009 edition of Adventist World, “We must give young adults meaningful roles within the church (p.10).”

And notably, Elder Paulsen has re-initiated the Let’s Talk series that he has been conducting around the world for over half a decade (Lechleitner, 2009). Even though I support these fine and admirable verbal gestures, I feel we fail new generations if we only offer another round of conversations and compelling articles.

So I share this open letter with you leader—whether you offer volunteer leadership in your local church or campus or serve as a ministry professional, educator or administrator. Leader, I implore you to move beyond conversations about youth and young adults to conspicuous and calculated action.

Although I admire the outspoken positions our leaders have taken on this issue (Martin, 2009), I want to invite you and every leader in the Seventh-day Adventist Church to transcend talk with tangible action. Specifically I’m asking you to tithe. Tithe one or more of the following beginning today: (a) Travel, (b) Time, (c) Timothys, (d) Telecasts, (e) Talents.

Tithe Your Travel

Divert one of your travel appointments, and instead sponsor a young adult to go to IGNITION, April 2010 in Columbus, Ohio, or IGNITION Atlanta, June 2010. Instead of taking on that tenth speaking appointment or attending another committee meeting, invest that trip’s budget into the leadership development of a young adult. IGNITION is especially formulated to deepen the discipleship and leadership development of young adults. Go to http://ignitionblog.wordpress.com for the latest details on these young adult training opportunities.

Tithe Your Time

Offer a tenth of your time each week to mentoring a young adult. If you average a 40-hour workweek, then set aside four hours this week and each week to nurture, apprentice, and encourage a young adult. Begin to pour yourself into the next generation. If you are working a 60-hour workweek and are saying to yourself, “There is no way I can offer six hours each week to mentor a young adult,” it may be that you need to change your work habits/schedule.

Tithe Your Timothys

Empower a tenth of your young leadership to develop new generations. You may be in the situation where you have a large team of young ministry leaders [i.e., a campus ministry or student association for an Adventist college or university]. Ask your team to train, mentor, and nurture the young people that follow them in age. Set aside a tenth of the resources and efforts you give to minister to your campus/church and invest it in the next generation of leaders.

Tithe Your Telecasts

Dedicate a tenth of your broadcast time to intentionally disciple young adults. Knowing the integral role media plays in young lives, invest in nurturing their spiritual growth through music, television, film, drama, comedy, photography, literature, art, production, etc. Overtly involve young adults in the production, creative, and technical aspects of the tithed endeavor.

For some of you, the pulpit is where you broadcast the Gospel. Afford at least a tenth of the worships in your church to involve young people. If you don’t have any youth in your church, more radical tithing may be in order.

Tithe Your Talents

Begin today to let a young person take your place. The classic parable admonishes us to multiply our talents, not bury them in the sand. Although often referring to talents as money, I would offer here a hybrid application, noting that your skills, abilities, giftedness, and wisdom need to be invested in the next generation. Allow “up and coming” young adults to take roles you might have easily and competently taken. Give them the opportunity to take your place—at least begin with a tenth of your place.

Do one or more or all of the above. Dear colleague, I am personally appealing to you to instigate this “tithing” conspiracy today. If you or someone else calls you a “Seventh-day Adventist leader,” this talk-transcending-tithing request is for you. Whether travel, time, Timothys, telecasts, or talents, I ask that you put your tithing into motion today.

Thank you for your kind consideration, and in advance I share my gratefulness for your immediate action. I believe that leaders best represent the Christ who relentlessly pursues new generations by transcending talk with tangible transformational relationships. May the GOD young adults seek be found living among those who love Him with all their heart (Martin, Bailey, & LaMountain, 2009). May Jesus be found in and through…you.

So the observant (and faithful!) of you will have noticed that I have been absent from this blog for the last 2 months. I won’t make excuses, but this has been due to a massive bout of upheaval and hopefully the last move I’m going to have to make for a long time.

Now that I’ve come out the other side, and into a very sexy face lift for this tired old blog, I took some inspiration from Carrie Bradshaw and it all ‘got me to thinking’ – is change destructive or just a necessary part of life?

All the theatre companies that I respect have embraced the old maxim ‘nothing is certain except that everything will change’. The Russian company Theatre Derevo who not only refuse to be tied down to one building but move entire countries when things get too cosy for them in one place; Theatre du Complicite’s constant shifts to stay at the forefront of experimental theatre whether it be physical clowning or multi-media based epics; Nicholas Hytner’s continued variation in programming at The National Theatre which perfectly reflects the ever changing state of the nation; Punchdrunk’s infinitely varied theatrical explorations/art instillations and school explorations. These are all artists who will not allow their work to become stale or to sit on their laurels.

Because too much of one thing can definitely become a bad thing. Although we see this in all walks of life (10 years of Labour anyone?) in theatre it seems a particularly essential problem, being as it is a transient art form. Life constantly changes so what better to reflect it’s immediacies than theatre?

What makes it worse is that some of the biggest thorns in our side are past heroes; kings who refuse to relinquish their thrones. Max Stafford-Clark’s appalling lazy production of Dreams of Violence and his insistence in producing work by a writer who is vastly inferior to the others he has bastioned (but whom is conveniently his partner) only heightens his current inadequacies, which are embarrassing when put up against his earlier innovations. But he is only one of the monoliths of theatre who quite frankly need to move on. Those iron fisted rulers of the Manchester Royal Exchange, Braham Murray and Greg Hersov also need a lesson in the benefits of ‘out with the old and in with the new’. How’s about some new blood people? Even Katie Mitchell, once an enfant terrible of the theatrical world, and even now regarded as one of our most innovative and avant-garde directors, has become synonymous with a style of actor/technician performance to which she became wed for far too long. The Waves and Attempts on Her Life were different plays, but could anyone actually tell them apart?

So who are the up and coming champions we should be giving a chance? Well in my humble opinion the following are pretty damn brave: Jasmine Cullingford’s instinctive and diverse programming at The Blue Elephant Theatre in Camberwell, Laura Kriefman’s new writing initiative Ignition at the Tristan Bates, the intrepid The Factory troupe of players and that agent of adventure Coney. This is of course to name but a few, if you have any names you want to put forward as the new pretenders to the throne please do, I’d love to expand my knowledge of fresh theatrical talent.

Change of style, leadership, venue, home and partnerships whether personal or artistic; all these can only be good things if the current status quo has gone stale. Sure it will be painful, but the fittest will survive. Let’s be cruel to be kind – we only want the strongest and best at the forefront of our theatrical culture, those brave enough to walk into new places and spaces and start again. Let a new reign begin.

Last week I had a new DVR installed at my house. I set the usual (be home from noon to five) appoin

Last week I had a new DVR installed at my house. I set the usual (be home from noon to five) appointment and had a service guy out to do the installation. I watched as he set everything up and patiently went through his quick tutorial.

The next day, I got out the remote and proceeded to set up some of my favorite shows for recording. After two or three attempts, I was unable to get the guide working. I quickly picked up the phone and called the cable company, attempting to get a hold of someone to help me. I waited on hold for five to ten minutes, and then I was serviced by an individual that didn’t want to deal with my issue. He went through a series of questions, asking did I do this or did I do that.

After about ten minutes of this, I told him I would figure it out. I went back and spent an hour trying everything. Now more frustrated than ever, I picked up the phone to call back the cable company. With my frustration level at a ten, I was ready to explode. I had already wasted one day waiting for the installer, then half a day messing with the system. I had to deal with someone on the phone who cared less about helping me to get this DVR up and running. I had made up my mind to cancel service and go with someone else.

So, I called the same number hoping to get the same guy that helped me last time. I had my script all planned out. This time I was greeted politely by a young woman who calmly asked “how may I help you?” I proceeded to vent, going through my frustrations all the while I planned to end the call with “I want to cancel my service”. Before I could get to my finish, the woman on the other end said, “I can see why you are frustrated, it’s our fault.” Wow, I wasn’t expecting that. She proceeded to tell me that they should have left better instructions and spent more time making sure I could set the system up the way I wanted. She proceeded to set me up another appointment with a technician. She also let me know that she had confirmed that the technician would be there at a specific time and that he would stay as long as I needed. I must say, at the end of the call I realized I had forgotten about wanting to cancel my service.

Several months ago, the topic of “whose responsibility is it that our clients are continually updated and trained on our software?” was asked at a company meeting. The question was put out there for all of us to answer. After little debate, everyone agreed that it was our responsibility, we were to blame. Then the question was asked, do you feel our clients see us taking the blame for this? The silence spoke for itself. After a few days of this company realization, the idea for Ignition was born.

If you haven’t already been contacted or introduced to our new Ignition site, you soon will be. PaperWise is taking the stance that everyone in the company will “shoulder the blame,” and make sure that each client gets introduced to this unique service. Imagine a video help file, with a detailed video description of every function within the PaperWise suite of applications. That’s exactly what you have with our new Ignition site. PaperWise is currently creating a client site that will not only contain video training clips of our solution suite, but can also contain clips of specific customized process specific to the individual client. You can now send new users through tracks of classes, be updated on new features, and also create a total training environment specific to your organization.

Continue to look for more information on our new “On Demand” electronic training service in the coming months. Ignition will be PaperWise way of always taking the responsibility to make sure our clients have every training tool are their disposal.
