Here’s a reposting of an older illustration that fits “entangled” quite well, mainly because I am too busy to create something new. Hope you don’t mind.

I used to have nightmares of that clown doll from Poltergeist with its endless entangling arms.

It can be metaphorical, if you like. Mostly I’ve just been reading too much of The Faery Reel and think Moreton Bay Fig buttress roots look prehensile. Pen with colour added in Photoshop, and you can see a larger version here.

This may end up becoming the December blog header, which is the reason for the shape.

This week’s Illustration Friday theme is “entangled.” Those of us with thick curly or wavy hair know the hazards of straightening our tresses; the round brush can get hopelessly entangled in our hair! (And then it’s curly again an hour later anyway. Sigh.)

“Music” for Illustration Friday

Music is the muse of writing, drawing, painting, dreaming …

I made this a couple of years back and thought it would be great for this week’s entry on Illustration Friday – Music.

The image is made up using printed textures that I created by hand with a roller and various papers. I then scanned these and used them to create “cut out” shapes in Photoshop.

For a while I really liked working in this style and you can see more of this approach in the Monkey Temple section of Good Infection Ltd, where I do work under the pseudonym of P. Joliffe. Check em out here if you are interested!

Another little stretch of the Illustration Friday theme, in order to wish one and all the happiest Thanksgiving!

Pen lines with colour added in Photoshop. Based on a photo of me in a tree, aged about 3, and a very grainy video of me hamming it up on the piano for reference purposes the other night.

I maintain that all children should be forced to learn the piano – after that, you can read the music for anything else.

I shall play wonderful music for you, Mademoiselle!

Great music always works like magic!

This Illustration Friday submission for “Music” is pretty straight forward. Music is such a broad topic and pinpointing what to illustrate is somewhat challenging.  To some it is about poetry, to others a way of escape. I find comfort in listening to music with my headphones for a number of reasons including both poetry and escape. Not only is the subject wearing headphones (an obvious indicator of music), she is having a personal experience with music. Something I find myself doing often. Seems worthy enough reason for an illustration.

I started with a vector illustration based on an image I had tucked away. I then took the vector artwork into photoshop and added some water color texture and then played with blurs and blending modes. Simple really. Enjoy and all comments are appreciated!

I love, love, love MUSIC!  So upset when I had to erase my hard drive and lost all of my downloaded music.  Thought I backed it up beforehand, but didn’t.  There’s nothing I enjoy more than art journaling with my favorite tunes blasting in the background: bliss!

Just a quick pencil drawing this week, for a change. I did it all out of my head, so I’ve no idea if harps really look like that… or if you can play them like that. Probably not.

Another Illustration Friday entry. Again, only quick sketch

First attempt at an illustration friday topic!
I am new to the idea of illustrating, normally I just draw what comes to mind.

This is what I had done on the weekend.

Generally I like setting goals for myself, it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I’m working on my own.  I’ve made up quite a few timelines for myself and although I do eventually complete the tasks I’ve set out, they are not often done as quickly as I would like.

Am I being unrealistic?  or am I just really good at procrastinating?  I feel like I need to set out these guidelines for myself, but the act of not completing them on time is giving me a great deal of anxiety.

Video games are my addiction right now and I need to get over it.  I’m going to exercise a little more self restraint, and see if that helps.

Good bye real-time strategy  games, you have eaten up too much of my time already.

The panels were done in Inkscape, the lines with a pen and everything else in Photoshop.

The texture in the background is from the endpapers of my great-grandfather’s autograph album, which as best I can tell was in use from at least 1908 to 1913 and contains signatures and poems and paintings and such sentiments as:
