It’s nice to see that the YouTube age has brought back the idea of comedy through song. In the early 70s you had the Smothers Brothers. The late 70s had Steve Martin. The 80s ushered in Spinal Tap and ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic (both of whom continue to record today). But the 90s was a dry spell for comedy set to a tune.

Then sometime in the past decade, YouTube made it possible for funny songs to go viral, and we got an explosion of them — from the political satire of the Jib Jab songs to ‘Dick in a Box’ and a whole lot in between. Adam Sandberg has just about single-handedly carried the torch with ‘Box’ and such gems as ‘Lazy Sunday,’ ‘Natalie Raps’ and ‘Motherlover.’

One of the most popular and amusing viral sensations was this clip by Sarah Silverman, presented to her then-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel on his show. Silverman is at her cutesy deadpan best here, but it’s Matt Damon who really makes this work. It’s so deliriously wrong in the best possible way.

Kimmel, of course, fought back with his own song, ‘I’m Fucking Ben Affleck,’ also well worth your time.

I’m sitting in an uncomfortable chair at JIBS. Should be be busy writing an analysis on a judicial case about outsoursing. Instead I am surfing the net. The song below might be the very best sketch to ever have been viewed on American television.

Todays problems include: thirst, apathi towards schoolwork and an increasingly slow internet. Some girls are discussing hairgrowth and sex on the table beside me, however this does not bother me at all.

Apparently, I’m not the only one who’s changed their mind about Sarah Silverman. People.com is reporting that she and ex-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel are back on. The pair broke up in July and were spotted getting cozy at restaurants and Howard Stern’s wedding (above). I guess if you’re going to break up a marriage, the least you can do is make your home-wrecking relationship work, you know?

Dammit, I didn’t want to have to do this. So, for a long time, I’ve hated Sarah Silverman. I didn’t think she was funny, I didn’t like her show and I really just thought she was completely overrated and kind of talentless. But then she made the “I’m Fucking Matt Damon” video, and my resolve began to crumble. Just slightly though. Now she’s gone and made this video for The Great Schlep, and you know what? It’s really funny. And it has a good message. I still don’t like her show (even though it has Brian Posehn, whom I adore) but I think I’m having a change of heart about ol’ Sarah.

We here at GV’s GH congratulate comedian Sarah Silverman for nabbing an Emmy over the weekend for her raucous YouTube sensation “I’m Fucking Matt Damon.”

You can win Emmys for stuff like this? Yes, at the shamefully untelevised Creative Arts Primetime Emmy ceremony, you can! Sarah’s award was for Outstanding Music and Lyrics.

We’ve all seen the video, but really, can’t you watch it over and over? And now it’s bittersweet, too, considering it was a playful jab at her longtime boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel. The couple have since broken up.

I watched The Bourne Ultimatum today. It’s a little sad and kind of strange how easily I’m influenced by that ish. When I grow up, I want to be a brainwashed deep cover CIA cover-up operative who speaks a gazillion languages, puts peoples’ lights out like it’s nobody’s business, and jeopardizes secret/corrupt operations. Sort of. Please don’t blacklist me.

Don’t deny it. That is every nerd’s fantasy. That and getting tea-bagged by Master Chief. Chuck Norris got tea-bagged by Master Chief and loved every minute of it. Who wouldn’t?

Also, thanks for clickin’ them links. After 22 hours, our video is ranked 11th. That’s a 31 place jump. Cool beans.

After a little more thought and consideration, I’ve decided that I don’t actually want to be a female Jason Bourne. It involves more physical activity than I care to partake in. Then there’s the whole intelligence factor. I won’t bash on my own brains, but my memory’s not too hot. I have an especially bad habit of forgetting peoples’ names in the a.m. hours.

I’d be perfectly satisfied just bonking one of those secret agent sorts. Pun intended.

This is a great pranking your significant other/one-upping their jokes youtube video.  I mean, almost a million people have viewed it.  That’s pretty good payback. The best, by far, is the Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel battle with Matt and Ben. WHY OH WHY DID YOU ALL HAVE TO BREAK UP?! Think about the children! (Like me).

Anyway, while you are watching, just know that no animals were harmed in the making of this. I only have one complaint: it mentions MySpace. And you all know how much I abhor the MySpaces.

By the way, if I see my precious Dr. Seuss in a video similar to this in the slightest, I’m coming after you. You know who you are.

One of my least favorite couples, Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel, are splitsville after five years of dating, their reps confirmed on Monday. No word yet on the reason for the split.

I gotta say though, I’m not surprised. Silverman took up with Kimmel in 2002 while he was still married to his wife (and mother of his two children), Gina. Karma, anyone?

It’s no secret I don’t care for Silverman. I don’t think she’s funny at all, and I think her cute-girl-with-a-potty-mouth schtick is tired and lame. Kimmel is certainly funnier, but his comedy is still meh. And they both give off a definite “tool” vibe.

It’ll be interesting to find out why they broke up and where they go from here. All I know is Silverman better keep her home-wrecking paws off Matt Damon because even though that video (I’m Fucking Matt Damon) was cute, she doesn’t need to go bust up his family too.

I was a big fan of Feist’s music before the iPod commercial lodged 1 2 3 4 inside our heads, and now she’s improved upon it — by adding Muppets. This Sesame Street appearance is an almost flawless recreation of the original video, but with simpler lyrics for the under-four set, and penguins. In a word: awesome.

Also, Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel officially announced the end of their relationship, which makes this a perfect opportunity to reflect on their two big viral hits from earlier this year. Who did the former couple used to f***? Remember the good times at NewTeeVee Station!

You know that moment a little bit after you find out that two of your friends have ended their relationship — the moment that follows all the sympathy and condolences, the moment of “oh, crap, they were such a fun couple, and now they won’t be having those awesome BBQs anymore”? That’s the way I feel about Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman breaking up. Because in the grand tradition of real-life couples Lucy and Desi and George and Gracie, their union created some hilarious comedy. Though perhaps the nature of the pieces was an early warning sign.

Silverman presented I’m F***ing Matt Damon to Kimmel as a gift in honor of Jimmy Kimmel Live’s 5th anniversary (it was originally meant to be aired in November 2007 during Kimmel’s birthday show, which never happened due to the WGA strike), and uploads of the video quickly appeared on YouTube in a Lazy Sunday-esque wave.

The choice of partners is deliberate, as Jimmy Kimmel has a long-standing joke feud with Matt Damon (culminating in a rage-filled appearance in September 2006), but who knew that Matt Damon could not only rap, but bust out some 90s-dance-crew moves?

And who knew that Kimmel would raise the bar so dramatically with a follow-up featuring Damon BFF Ben Affleck? I’m F***ing Ben Affleck may start off like a cheap rip-off, but soon afterwards ups the ante, both in an artistic and cast sense: the quasi-official YouTube upload lists Robin Williams, Don Cheadle, Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, Rebecca Romijn, Benji Madden, Joel Madden, Dicky Barrett, Christopher Mintz-Plasse a.k.a. Mclovin, Lance Bass, Dominic Monaghan, Meatloaf, Pete Wentz, Joan Jett, Huey Lewis, Perry Farrell, Macy Gray and Josh Groban. Sure, there are no butterflies. But there is a “We Are The World”-esque chorus and Harrison Ford in a convertible. Advantage: Kimmel.

Of course, Silverman and Kimmel didn’t work together on these shorts — both were directed by Wayne McClammy, a Jimmy Kimmel Live segment director who’s parlayed his success into exciting directing gigs. But the established nature of their relationship in the public eye is what gives these pieces the additional kick. What makes “I’m F***ing Matt Damon/Ben Affleck” so much fun is that the humor of the pieces reflect that stage in a romance when all the insecurity is gone, when both partners are so comfortable with each other that they can make these sorts of tasteless jokes. Now that they’ve broken up, it’s just a little sad, to think of the people they are now, um, f***ing.

But maybe there’s a chance they got together for one last breakup music video. Everyone knows those are always the best.

I’m kind of busy right now, so I’ll just share a couple of videos I’ve watched the past couple of weeks that I thought were funny.  I have some thoughts on all of them (other than haha), but, for now, I’ll leave it your imagination.

Matt Damon’s/Jimmy Kimmel’s/Sarah Silverman’s faux feud has expanded to include a long list of Hollywood’s hottest. Kimmel’s retort to his girlfriend’s (Silverman) confessional video was to make a video just like hers. And since Silverman was hooking up with Damon, Kimmel got it on with none other than Damon’s BFF, Ben Affleck. The video cameos a star-studded cast including Brad Pitt, Joan Jett, Robin Williams, Pete Wentz, Cameron Diaz, Dominic Monaghan, Harrison Ford, McLovin and even Huey Lewis (you know…of Huey Lewis and The News!), and a chorus of others.

Kimmel wins the war, hands down.

After the Oscars last night on Jimmy Kimmel he did a song called ” I’m Fucking Ben Affleck ” which was a revenge song to ” I’m Fucking Matt Damon “, Jimmy got a whole boatload of celebrities to show up and sing in the video. This must be one the funniest videos I’ve seen in quite sometime. Watch Robin Williams in this, might be the best part of the video haha.

So, I’m sitting comfortably in my apartment in the sky watching the Oscars. Besides John Stewart, John Cera and Seth Rogan, the show was pretty wack. But anyway, the show and local news were done and Kimmel Live followed right behind, so rather than look for the remote or go to sleep, I watched. Kimmel, who I feel can follow in the steps of Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien, debuted a video in response to his girlfriend, Sara Silverman’s video, “I’m Fucking Matt Damon” called “I’m Fucking Ben Affleck.”

Now, I probably wouldn’t have ever post this if I didn’t actually catch all of the cameos. I counted Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Macy Gray, Don Cheadle, Good Charlotte, Josh Groban, Robin Williams, some other random celebs, and my favorite…McLovin!

I warn you now, the video is so Un-Hip-Hop and moderately quite gay. Still, funny to see how Hollywood jumped on board for a laugh.

First it was Sarah Silverman with “I’m fucking Matt Damon.” I am not usually a Sarah Silverman fan, but that video was funny. Mostly because of Matt Damon. He can’t keep a straight face.

And now Jimmy Kimmel has come up with his own little special video. “I’m fucking Ben Affleck.”
