Disc images are single files that represent the entire contents of a CD or DVD. This makes it very easy to transport the contents from one location to another without moving the disc itself. It’s also an easy way to back up the contents of a disc and restore it at a later date.

There are several disc image formats out there, but the most popular are probably ISO, and BIN/CUE. To burn these files to a disc, you’ll need a program that knows what these files are and what to do with them. There are lots of choices out there. My favorite commercial program is probably Alcohol 120%, but other popular ones are Nero, Roxio Creator, and Daemon Tools. These will set you back anywhere from $50 to $100.

A very nice free option is ImgBurn, which:

• Creates disc images from your CDs and DVDs;
• Creates disc images from files on your computer;
• Writes images to blank CD and DVD media;
• Writes individual files to CD or DVD;
• Verifies disc integrity;
• Compare discs to corresponding disc images.

ImgBurn works with a range of image formats including ISO, BIN/CUE, DI, DVD, GI, IMG, MDS, NRG and PDI. It also supports all of the major physical disc types, including Blu-Ray, if you have a BD-ROM in your computer. It runs on pretty much any Windows system (including 64-bit versions), and supports most CD/DVD drives, even my 5-year-old Plextor. I like that the interface is simple and straightforward.  The default Ez-Mode Picker makes it especially simple to select the task you’d like to complete, but you don’t have to use it if you don’t want. I also like that it’s relatively light on resources, which is good for my old computer.

ImgBurn offers a lot of functionality for $0, especially when you stack it up against the commercial programs out there. Highly recommended for all your disc burning needs.

How many of you are home video nuts? Perhaps you have a few AVI, Mpeg4, or maybe some MKV video files sitting around on your computer that you would like to burn to a DVD so you can watch them on your TV.

If that’s the case, this article is for you.

There is a great little program out there called DVD Flick that is a FREE program that allows you to encode the desired video file into a DVD format file. Once DVD Flick encodes the files, it then will proceed to burn it to a DVD.

DVD Flick is NOT a DVD burning program although it IS a DVD authoring tool and file encoder. After DVD Flick encodes the file to DVD format, it then completes the burning process by calling on your burning program to finish the process. IMG Burn is a great DVD burning program that works well with DVD Flick.

DVD Flick is the easiest one step encoding/burning program that I have come across yet. It allows you to encode the file as a single file or you can set it up with multiple chapters. Dvd Flick also supports subtitle files as well in case you have a favorite foreign video file that speaka no englis.

Both DVD Flick and IMG Burn are free downloads. Keep in mind that encoding videos zaps your system resources so if you have an older computer, the encoding can take several hours for a two hour movie. On my own machine which is a fairly fast quad core cpu computer running Windows 7, encoding a two hour movie takes about 30 minutes. On my old XP pentium 4, encoding would take a couple hours and use up nearly all my cpu resources. Your mileage may vary.

What about Macs?

Sure, if you want Macs go for it. I personally don’t have a lot of experience with them, but there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t use them. The price differential is getting smaller every day and Apple make a seriously machine.

Can my pastor (minister/priest) get his email on his/her iPhone?

Yes. Just about everyone seems to have a iPhone these days and it seems to me that clergy love technology. If you’re using Google Apps, then setting the iPhone up to access Gmail is a walk in the park. Similarly if you using MS Exchange with Outlook Web Access you should be able to set it up with your eyes closed.

Can you recommend any other free software?

I sure can. For CD/DVD burning have a look at ImgBurn, and for image editing you can’t go past Paint.NET.

1- Una vez descomprimido el juego a grabar , realizaremos un cambio en el programa . Nos vamos a “Herramientas” y seguidamente a “Ajustes…”:

2- Ahora nos vamos a “Grabar” , y cambiamos la casilla “Opciones” en donde pone “Utilizar el especificado” y ponemos la numeracion 1913760 , tal y como vemos en la imagen:

Y listo , con esto podremos grabar los juegos de Xbox360 .

3- Ahora vamos a modificar el archivo DVD que nos viene con la ISO que hemos descargado . Les aviso que si descargas un juego de Xbox360 sin el DVD , no lo grabes directo porque no te ira … Puedes crearlo tu mismo de todos modos .

Bien , abrimos el archivo y borramos la siguiente linea:

La segunda linea la dejamos como esta , y listo , ya lo podremos grabar .

4-  Nos vamos de nuevo al ImgBurn y seleccionamos “Grabar imagen a Disco” :

Nos vamos al icono que dice “Seleccionar un archivo…” , y seleccionamos el archivo DVD:

4- Y lo mas importante , la grabacion … Para empezar , desactivamos la casilla “Verificar” , y la velocidad , la normal para estos juegos , es “2.4x” y otra es “2x” . Eliges la que más vaya mejor , a mi me va bien “2x” , y le damos al folio y el cd que vemos abajo y empezara a grabar :

Y listo , cuando finalize , les dara el mensaje de verificacion de la grabación significa que estara listo:

Κατεβάστε αυτό το αρχείο και αποσυμπιέστε το. Θα εμφανιστούν 2 αρχεία, το patch και ο απαραίτητος patcher.

Το patch αφαιρεί το wav3 από τα παιχνίδια, αλλά πάλι είναι προσωρινή λύση. Ο καλύτερος τρόπος είναι η αναβάθμιση.

Hai să vă spun de la ce a plecat. De la versiunea 9 au dat verde unei versiuni pentru săraci. Adicătelea dacă nu ai bani să dai pe licenţă nu-l mai pirata şi ia d’aici o versiune free care nu ştie să facă nimic. Mă uit cu uimirea unei pisici bete la nero 9. şi ceva instalat. Full (da toţi avem câte o mătuşă prin America care ne trimite dvd cu filme sau  cu soft legal plătit din sudoarea frunţii – care frunte munceşte că d’aia a traspirat aşa ). Şi era să mă ia cu  infarct la inimioară. Un giga şi vreo 300 de megi. Hait macate-aş io că sa transformat Nero al meu în XP. Pus mânuţa şi dezinstalat beleaua. Adicătelea Nero. Evident cu nervi că acu’ şi ca să-l dezinstalezi pe mini-xpeul asta îţi trebuie un progrămel de curăţat făcut de ei. Dar eu m-am prins mai târziu…între timp deja eram nervos.

Am revenit cu picioarele pe pământ am căutat pe sfântul google şi am găsit un progrămel care ştie exact ce vroiam eu să facă nero, adicătelea să scrie o imagine pe cd sau dvd, să facă o imagine din cd sau dvd să scrie un cd sau dvd cu date şi să copieze un cd sau dvd.

Aşadar iacătelea programelul. Îi zice ImgBurn instalat are valoarea uriaşă de 2,2 Mega şi face tot ce v-am spus mai sus. Mai vrea cineva nero?

ปกติเป็นคนชอบโหลดบิตทอร์เรนต์อยู่แล้ว คราวนี้ มีปัญหาที่เวลาดาวน์โหลดไฟล์ DVD มา บางทอร์เรนต์ไม่ได้ทำเป็นไฟล์ ISO มาให้ (มาเป็นโฟลเดอร์ VIDEO_TS ที่มีไฟล์หลายๆ ไฟล์อยู่ในนั้น) ซึ่งเวลาจะดาวน์โหลดไฟล์มาไว้ที่เครื่อง โดยผ่าน HTTP (ก็ FTP มีปัญหา ล็อกอินไม่ได้เฉยเลย) ถ้าไม่ทำ ก็ต้องมานั่งดาวน์โหลดไฟล์ทีละไฟล์ ในโฟลเดอร์ VIDEO_TS ซึ่งไม่อยากทำเลย ก็เลยต้องหาวิธีแปลงไฟล์ DVD (โฟลเดอร์ VIDEO_TS) ให้เป็น ISO ก่อน วิธีการ ก็ง่ายๆ ดังนี้

แปลงไฟล์ของ DVD เป็น ISO
เมื่อดาวน์โหลดโปรแกรมมาแล้ว ก็เตรียมไฟล์ที่จะทำเป็น DVD (ในรูป ISO) ที่ดาวน์โหลดมาแล้ว ใช้ได้เลย
1 สร้างโฟลเดอร์ AUDIO_TS ขึ้นมาใหม่ (เป็นโฟลเดอร์เปล่าๆ ไม่มีไฟล์อะไร) ในโฟลเดอร์เดียวกับ VIDEO_TS (เนื่องจากไฟล์ที่จะประกอบเป็น DVD จะต้องมี 2 โฟลเดอร์เสมอ คือ VIDEO_TS และ AUDIO_TS ซึ่งถ้าไม่มี ก็สร้างขึ้นมาเท่านั้นเอง
2 รันโปรแกรม Folder2Dvd ขึ้นมา แล้วคลิกปุ่ม Select Folder ให้เลือกโฟลเดอร์ที่รวมโฟลเดอร์ VIDEO_TS และ AUDIO_TS เอาไว้
3 คลิกที่ปุ่ม Select Output กำหนดโฟลเดอร์ ชื่อไฟล์ของไฟล์ ISO ที่ต้องการ
4 ช่อง Label Of The Iso ให้ใส่ชื่อเลเบลของ ISO ที่ต้องการ
5 คลิกปุ่ม Generate Iso เพื่อสร้างไฟล์ ISO ที่ต้องการ

   With the release of Windows 7 coming up shortly (I expect to have my copy next week), I was thinking, that people will be wondering about having to but new software.  Especially those who are going from XP to 7, as some of the software (versions) that worked in XP do not work in 7. 

     One software that I know will need an upgrade is your cd/DVD burning software, in XP I use Nero 7 but that will not work in Windows7, to continue to use Nero I would need to pay for $49.99 for the upgrade version of Nero 9.  In these times, with income limited and the need to save as much as possible, I have 2 recommendations for fully free cd/DVD software that will give you all the features of Nero ( or Roxio, the other major consumer product).

Imgburn

( http://www.imgburn.com/ ) is a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application that allows for (from the Imgburn site)

For standard users all you need to know about Imgburn is that to use it all you need to do is

1. Load ImgBurn.
2. Switch to ‘Write’ mode.

4. Select Image to burn.

La creazione di immagini ISO di CD e DVD permette di poter disporre di un file che riproduce in tutto e per tutto le caratteristiche del supporto di partenza, avere quindi un’esatta copia che può poi essere masterizzata per creare una copia di backup. Ciò si rende necessario nel caso in cui volessimo preservare i nostri supporti originali che prima o poi si usurerebbero.

In un mio precedente post vi ho già segnalato alcuni software con in quali si possono masterizzare ma anche creare immagini ISO. Dei due, anche se esteticamente meno accattivante, è di più immediato utilizzo InfraRecorder, basta lanciare InfraExpress e da menu cliccare su copy -> Create Image from Disc ed il gioco è fatto.

Approfitto di questo post per segnalarvi adesso un altro software free nato ad uso e consumo di immagini ISO: ImgBurn. Già da quanto descritto in homepage potete farvi un’idea delle diverse modalità di utilizzo, accessibili peraltro facilmente.

Come potete vedere oltre alle comuni modalità di masterizzazione di file e cartelle, sono presenti pure la creazione di immagini ISO a partire dalle stesse o da un CD o DVD in nostro possesso, il che è l’oggetto principale di questo post.

In tal caso basta cliccare su “Create image file from disc” per avviare la procedura, previa specificazione del percorso e del nome del file ISO da creare.

Per quale altro scopo creare immagini ISO?

(note, if you want to do use the codecs on 32-bit Vista or XP X64, just use the 32-bit installers)

Someone left me a comment on my post about 64-bit Windows 7 and codecs…

It was to the effect of “You can’t have both the 64-bit and 32-bit codecs installed at once”.

This is and is not true, 64-bit Windows has two Program Files folders, one called “Program Files” and one called “Program Files (x86)”, and all the legacy 32-bit applications are put in the x86 program files folder.

Now, since the codecs in the 64-bit package are 64-bit, they’ll work in 64-bit DirectShow/Windows Media Player, even if you install them into Program Files (x86), which is what happens when Windows detects that the installer is 32-bit and directs it to the x86 folder thinking the program must be x86 as well.

This isn’t a problem unless you want the 32-bit codecs as well (things like ImgBurn can only burn audio CDs if you have the proper Directshow filters, and ImgBurn is a 32-bit app), once you install that, it will complain that you already have the codecs and offer to uninstall them for you.

The solution is simple, install the 32-bit version into Program Files (x86), then install the 64-bit version into Program Files by removing (x86) from the proposed installation directory in the installer.

Why is this not an issue on XP Professional X64 Edition or Server 2003 X64?

Those only have one Windows Media Player (32-bit), but oddly enough they do have both versions of DirectX, so there is no 64-bit Media Player there to tempt you to switch, all you need are 32-bit codecs.

Vista and 7 are a different problem, like Internet Explorer, there are also 32-bit and 64-bit Media Player:

And just like IE x64 can’t accept 32-bit plugins, Windows Media Player x64 can’t accept 32-bit Directshow filters.

So with the tangled web that Vista weaves:

It uses 32-bit Windows Media Player by default.

I want to use the 64-bit version.

I still need the 32-bit codecs because my CD burning software (ImgBurn) is 32-bit.

At first I tried K-Lite Codec Pack, but for some reason their 64-bit codec pack’s FLAC, Vorbis, and Theora support don’t work (but everything else does, and their 32-bit pack will mess up how Windows Explorer handles those file associations (even though they play), and of course we still have the issue of both Xiph isntallers trying to use the Program Files (x86) folder, so here’s what I did.

1. Install K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit but uncheck FLAC, Vorbis, and Theora.

2. Install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 32-bit, choose “Lots of stuff (no players)”, and then uncheck FLAC, Theora, and Vorbis.

3. IN THIS ORDER install the 32-bit Xiph Vorbis/Theora/FLAC Directshow codecs followed by the 64-bit installer, but change where this one installs from “C:\Program Files (x86)\xiph.org” to “C:\Program Files\xiph.org”

4. To make Vista default to the 64-bit Windows Media Player run this on an administrative command prompt:

%windir%\system32\unregmp2.exe /SwapTo:64

Click the Windows orb, type in regedit and hit enter.

Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\wmplayer.exe

You should see two keys, PATH and DEFAULT that both reference Program Files (x86), remove the (x86 and they become:

Default

%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe

and

Path

%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player

Now launch Windows Media Player and bring up the task manager (ctrl-alt-delete and choose start task manager), under processes should be “wmplayer.exe” with NO *32 next to it.

Note that Windows Media Player still can’t burn or rip anything but WMA or MP3:

For ripping I recommend BonkEnc and for burning I recommend ImgBurn.

ImgBurn is tiny (only a 1.5 meg download) and can make audio cds from anything you have Directshow filters for, which we now happen to have a lot of.

So there you have it:

DirectShow and the Windows Media Player have gone from totally worthless hard disk hogs, to mildly useful.

Edit:

If you find that something is still opening in 32-bit Windows Media Player, you can’t change it with the usual “Open With” context item to find the Media Player in Program Files, because it is stupid and will still keep opening the ine in Program Files (x86).

To fix this, right click the file, choose properties, find “Opens With”, click “Change”, and the 64-bit media player should be the one on the right… Although MS does nothing to distinguish them.

You may have to do this file type by file type….

So helpful of them.

Cogéis la carpeta Languages y la copias a la de tu programa y listo .

1] Una vez descomprimido el juego a grabar , realizaremos un cambio en el programa . Nos vamos a “Herramientas” y seguidamente a “Ajustes…”:

Y ahora nos vamos a “Grabar” , y cambiamos la casilla  “Opciones” en donde pone “Utilizar el especificado” y ponemos la numeración 1913760 , tal y como vemos en la imagen:

Y listo , con esto podremos grabar los juegos de Xbox360 .

2] Ahora vamos a modificar el archivo DVD que nos viene con la ISO que hemos  descargado . Os aviso que si descargais un juego de Xbox360 sin el DVD , no lo grabeis porque no os ira … Podeis crearlo vosotros mismos de todos modos .

Bien , abrimos el archivo y borramos la siguiente linea:

La segunda linea la dejamos como esta , y listo , ya lo podremos grabar .

3] Nos vamos de nuevo al ImgBurn y seleccionamos “Grabar imagen a Disco” :

Nos vamos al icono que dice “Seleccionar un archivo…” , y seleccionamos el archivo DVD:

4] Y lo mas importante , la grabación … Para empezar , desactivamos la casilla “Verificar” , y la velocidad , la normal para estos juegos , es “2.4x” y otra es “2x” . Elegid la que os vaya mejor , ami me va bien “2x” , y le damos al folio y el cd que vemos abajo y empezara a grabar :

Y listo , cuando finalize , os dara el mensaje de verificacion de la grabacion significa que estara listo:
