It’s the day of days in retail world, here in the US. Black Friday, the day when most people subject themselves to standing in long lines and nearly getting trampled to death. I will be on the opposite end of the count from the masses later today, but for now I propose that we re-dub today “Black metal Friday!” Because Immortal is so much cooler than shopping. Enjoy!

Onsdag. Mitt i veckan. Ja det är väl ungefär så det känns. Inget speciellt med andra ord. Tänk så speciella de här onsdagarna var  för 13 år sedan. 13 år???

Sweden Rock presenterade de första artisterna/grupperna idag. Var är Saxon undrar jag? Det är ju skrivet i sten att världens tuffaste Biff ska komma nästa år så det är väl bara att slänga ut det. Eller? De första sex akterna var inget som Tomas hetsade upp sig för hur som helst. Bachman & Turner, Bigelf, Unisonic, Saga, Jorn och Mother’s Finest. I princip enbart Jorn som känns kul. Unisonic med gamle Helloween-Kiske kan eventuellt också bli roligt. På fredag ska det tydligen släppas en hög akter till. Jag väntar med tillförsikt.

Slängde ett getöga på Graspops hemsida också. Där snackar vi hyfsat förstasläpp. KISS, Immortal, John Olivas Pain, Ratt, Behemoth, Sepultura, Bleeding Through, Anvil med flera. Tänk om belgarna kunde presentera två sjukt bra headliners till så är det nästan givet med en festivalbuss-resa nästa år. KISS? Jag säger nja. Såg dem senast på Psycho Circus-turnén och då var det riktigt trötta gubbar som stod på scen. Rapporterna från Graspop 2008 gjorde mig inte heller speciellt sugen på att se dem igen. Men okej. Det är väl tio år sen senast och vem vet när chansen inte finns längre.

Torsdag imorgon. Skönt att veckan börjar tippa över. Skulle  egentligen varit ledig på förmiddagen och hämtat kompis Helén som landar efter fyra veckor i Thailand. Det fick bli jobb istället. Hyggliga “brorsan” med sambo sätter sig i bilen imorgon istället.

På fredag presenteras antingen Bon Jovi eller Alice In Chains för nästa års Sweden Rock Festival. Och Saxon då naturligtvis. Kom ihåg vart du läste det först…

Tänk om det skulle bli tidigt i säng ikväll. Ja varför inte? Finns väl ingen anledning att ligga som en pösmunk i soffan och glo på en meningslös rulle?

Ich wollte ja eigentlich kürzer treten, aber es gibt mal wieder was “Neues” (zumindest bei mir, die Alben sind auch schon wieder ein paar Jahre alt) …

Cover von Antimatter, Emperor und Immortal

• Antimatter mit “Leaving Eden”: Antimatter habe ich mit dem Album “Saviour” damals in einem Plattenladen in San Francisco entdeckt. Schon damals hat mir die ruhige, eher introvertierte Musik gefallen. Auf “Leaving Eden” haben sich Antimatter weiterentwickelt und sind mittlerweile fast so etwas wie die “besseren” Anathema (was sicherlich auch daran liegt, dass einige Mitglieder von Anathema auch bei Antimatter aktiv sind – und Anathema derzeit unglaublicherweise keinen Plattenvertrag haben …). Deutlich wird diese Entwicklung zum einen an den etwas häufiger eingesetzten verzerrten Gitarren, als auch am ausgereifteren Songwriting. Antimatter sind dabei viele schöne Songs zum Zuhören und Entspannen gelungen (was durchaus positiv gemeint ist).
• Immortal mit “At The Heart of Winter” und “Sons Of Northern Darkness“: Meiner wiederentdeckten Liebe zu Death und Black Metal folgend, habe ich natürlich auch endlich bei einer DER wichtigsten Bands zugeschlagen: Immortal (das Albums “Battles In The North” werde ich ein anderes Mal vorstellen). Die Band gehört auch zu den Vertretern des Black Metal, die Wert auf ordentliche Strukturen und ausgefeilteres Songwriting legen. Mir scheint (zumindest auf diesen beiden Alben), dass die Einflüsse von Immortal auch deutlich im Trash bzw. Power Metal liegen. Oftmals findet man in den Songs Teile, die eigentlich nur durch den typischen Gesang und Sound zu Black Metal werden. Auch das Drumming könnte teilweise direkt aus den 80er Jahren entsprungen sein. Beide Alben sind nicht schlecht, “At The Heart Of Winter” gefällt mir aber ein bisschen besser.
• Emperor mit “Anthems to The Welkin At Dusk“: Mein erster Kontakt mit Emperor war 1999 (?) “IX Equilibrium”, ein wahnwitziges Prog-Power-Black Metal-Album. Ich muss sagen, damals war mir die ganze Sache doch etwas zu komplex und abgefahren, sodass ich es bei der einen CD belassen habe. Jetzt habe ich mich aber an ein älteres Werk herangemacht und bin damit auf eine echte Perle gestoßen (ja ich weiß: das Album wird schon seit Ewigkeiten als einer der BM-Höhepunkte gefeiert). Auch hier wechseln in bester Prog-Manier verschiedene Tempi, Takte und Tonarten, driften aber nie in (zu) unübersichtliche Strukturen ab. Im Gegenteil: wenn man das Album ein paar Mal gehört hat, dann bleibt sogar einiges im Ohr hängen.

Vampires. Humans. It’s the new Romeo and Juliet. It’s the star-crossed love that just can’t happen. Well, ya know, unless the human gets vamped. But, in the Buffyverse and in Mystic Falls, our brooding vamps won’t kill their girls to keep them in around. There’s no argument that the relationship between Buffy & Angel (Buffy) and Elena & Stefan (The Vampire Diaries) has no hope of lasting. We all know why. One will age and die while the other will stay immortal. It’s a bad mix. But, here’s some thoughts on how Buffy & Elena handle the battle.  (BtW, you don’t have to be familiar with either series to keep reading).

In season one of Buffy, Buffy falls for Angel before knowing he’s a vamp. Once the truth hits the surface, they embrace that “This can never be anything.” Of course, as they continue to be in impending-doom situations with one another, they can’t deny the love. Through season two, they become inseparable. Their romance hits some big bumps in the road – like Angel losing his soul and killing Buffy’s friends – but after his return from hell, an ensouled Angel returns to Buffy’s side.  Towards the end of season three, in “The Prom” (which follows the aptly titled episode “Choices”), Buffy’s mom lectures Angel, telling him that she sure hopes he’ll do the “right” thing. Nothing against Angel, but he’s already done the “wrong” thing. He’s in the relationship. He’s Buffy’s world. Honestly, if he wanted to do the right thing, he should have left Buffy’s side the moment she developed feeling for him. Regardless, at this point, Buffy’s graduating high school, and Mom is pushing Angel out the door. In their poorly timed sewer talk, Angel reveals to Buffy that he is leaving her, leaving Sunnydale. He doesn’t want her to be involved in this “freakshow” anymore. I know he’s right; she knows he’s right; there’s no future for them. However, it’s not his choice at this point. Buffy knows the whole deal. They’re in their serious, committed relationship. I think it’s her choice. Sure, it’s a bad choice to date a vamp, but it’s still her choice. Him deciding to hurt her to help her after a 2 year relationship? Not so right. There stands our sweet heroine, alone in the sewer, heartbroken.

Elena had quite a different response last night in The Vampire Dairies new episode “Turning Point.” She took things into her own hands. I’m not saying she made the “right” decision. Again, life with a human and vamp really not working out in the long run. But, I think she was so right to defend her right to make her own choice. As with Buffy and Angel, Elena falls for Stefan before she learns of his vampire status. Once she learns the truth, they play a game of push and pull. Ultimately, Stefan tells Elena they can’t be together. When the episode opened last night, Elena was in a painful limbo, waiting for Stefan to leave town. But, he didn’t leave because more things went bump in the night and he didn’t t want to her unprotected. In one of the episode’s climactic scenes (there were many last night), Stefan tells Elena that he’s doing this for her own good. At first, she sits in the car with the same heartbroken expression Buffy dons in the sewer. But, rather than drive away, Elena gets out of the car and tells Stefan, “You don’t get to make that decision for me. If you walk away, it’s for you, because I know what I want.” I applaud her in that moment. Yes, I am applauding her right to make a poor choice.

I love both these heroines. And, I know they’re in lose-lose situations. I’m not saying Buffy was wrong to let Angel leave her or that Elena was right to not let Stefan leave her, but Elena’s stand last night made me smile because I’ve always been peeved that Angel made the decision for Buffy.

On another note, I read a review about last night’s Vampire Diaries episode, and the reviewer indicated that Stefan is rather immature and unbelievable as being over a hundred years old. I was thinking about this… I think the rate at which one matures is going to be quite different when the body is not aging as well. Stefan was, what, 17 when he died? Think of all the things that mature us. We have life roles and duties to fulfill, things that are expected of us at certain ages. As we continue to get older, we have children. As we begin to age, we also begin to slow down. We eventually also have to face our mortality. None of that holds true for vampires, though. They don’t have the duties we do, they can’t have children, and they will never age. They will always be young and strong. So while they will gain experiences and over time gain some wisdom, I propose that a vampire is going to mature at a rate significantly slower thana mortal because of their drastically different embodiment and experience.

Hello blogger and internet searchers. This is my second post and today I think i will cover the second logical topic to cover after explaining common phrases and that is, races! Yes it is time I finally tell you who and what these different players in this RPG are. Now, there are quite a few of them so I will only cover three and some origin races if I have the time. I do tend to like to ramble on a lot so this may be a long post so bare with me. Now then, lets begin with the…

Humans

The humans are the oldest race in the universe. They are the only origin race to not divide into multiple sub-races. They are the most accomplished, arguably the most evolved, and are the most varied race in the known abyss. They have been known to be the most cruel and the most compassionate, the most violent of warriors and the most peaceful of diplomats. They are the only origin race to die quickly, there lifespans being about 50-80 years.

Dwarves

Dwarves were not exatly enslaved by the human empire more like they were born into it because there ancestors and origin race, the stonekind, were enslaved by rimefire. They are a sub-race of the stonekind and inherited their wisdom and ability to create amazing weapons and armor. They are all ruled over by one King and keep, for the most part, in the mountains of the north and the west. They not only stay in these mountains for the tactical advantage they provide (should they be attacked) but also because they spend much of there early and late life underground digging and searching, hoping to find artifacts or books that will tell them more about the stonekind. They have long lifespans and can live as long as a thousand years (this was found out in an experiment done by RimeFire) but the average lifespan is shorter only around 500-750 years.

Elves

The elves were the second race to be enslaved by Rimefire. They are decendents of an ancient race whos name has been lost to the ages. Slender and tall by comparison to humans. They were enslaved mostly not to work but to as a show of force to others of their home plane. They are the most advance civilization technologicly, save for the ramaining rimefire cities, there cities are small but are more about expansion upward. They are most often seen in the forest as it reminds them of the place they long ago called home. There home plane of existance can be seen in the skies at night and many believe this is why they build their cities upward and keep there oldest at the top. The elves average lifetime is about half that of a dwarf, they can live up to 550-600 years but the average lifespan is around 200-350 years.

well due to time constraints that is all I will be writting today, perhaps soon I will have more time and be able to speak about the stonekind, the shadowkind, the old ones, the goliaths, and the immortalkind.

Life is but a game, who can create the most joy.

“Gay party is immoral.” That is the Comelec ruling against Ladlad as reported by Karen Servando, in her article entitled: “Comelec says gay party “immortal”".

I am embarrassed by this decision. Honestly, I cannot believe that Comelec has used religious arguments to dismiss a very valid petition for accreditation by Ladlad.

For the record, I do not agree with the Comelec ruling that Ladlad or anyone who is by nature or nurture becomes part of GLBT community is a threat to the youth.

Voy a hablar de lo que a mi parecer, es un discazo de la banda de black metal Immortal. “Sons of the Northern Darkness” es el séptimo disco de Immortal y el que marcó la separación (para la posterior reunión) de la banda. Como ya sabéis (o no, si es que no, no pasa nada, ya lo explico yo) Immortal es una banda de black metal noruega, de Bergen en concreto, cuna del movimiento, pero Immortal, a pesar de ser de Bergen y de nacer en 1990, casi con el auge del movimiento, siempre rehusaron, en cierto modo, pertenecer a él, puesto que según ellos, el satanismo les queda lejos y prefieren hablar de la majestuosidad del invierno, de batallas medievales o de leyendas de su maravillosa tierra, lo cual me parece lo más acertado, puesto que cuando ellos salieron, el “Inner Circle” (grupo pseudo terrorista formado por los principales creadores del black metal que intentaba erradicar el cristianismo en noruega) estaba quemando iglesias aún.

La portada es bastante fea, la verdad... supongo que será obra de Nuclear Blast...

Bueno pues “Sons of the Northern Darkness” es un disco, que a pesar de estar producido por “Nuclear Blast”, sello que ya he manifestado mi animadversión a él en algún que otro post (algún día explicaré porque aborrezco este sello), tiene una genial producción y edición. Es un disco brutal, que hace bastante honor a su título, te transporta a la oscuridad y brutalidad de los viejos, fríos y oscuros bosques noruegos, con canciones tremendas como “Sons of the northern Darkness” con un excelente y veloz trabajo de Horgh, el batería, que deja el camino abierto al espectacular riff y una oscura voz. “Beyond the North Waves”, para mí el mejor tema, con un preludio verdaderamente espectacular que precede a la tormenta o “Antarctica” que suena a gigantescos bloques de hielo chocando unos con otros. En definitiva es un gran disco, muy inspirador y bien trabajado que recomiendo con fruición.

I’ve became immortal! I’m one of the designers who were painted by Art&Style blog and before my brother Szabolcs could have finished his oil portrait about me I was caught in the act on an aquarelle in our showroom. I am wearing my pony skin platform sandals from the 2009 holiday collection. You can see I have nice legs since I’ve been a ballet and later ballroom dancer. It was pretty obvious for me to start designing shoes and even The New York Times thinks my shoes are worth writing about.
