When we were kids we had a propensity to imagine and create things. We saw the creative and intelligent design in the world. Logic didn’t exist. Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy and many other imaginations were as real to us as our parents. We are born with this natural ability to separate ourselves from ourselves.

We have not been conditioned into believing things, but have been conditioned out of believing. In order to fit in with the herd, we were taught to put childish things away. We were taught how to be appropriate by our parents, teachers and piers. Slowly we learned to fit in. Gradually we were trained to use logic.

It is becoming less and less accepted to believe in things you cannot see or explain. Yet it is precisely the unseen which drives us to be more than we currently are. Logic would say you can’t be your dream you because you are genetically unable. Belief pisses on the grave of logic and says “Yes I Can!”

80% of Americans believe in some sort of higher power, even though Freud, Dawkins, Shermer and many others in the scientific community call this irrational. Children are born knowing the world is abundant until their parents teach them there is lack. Again I say, we are conditioned out of believing.

Science has proven that we use the same part of our mind in evaluating beliefs as we do facts. In other words, our minds do not know the difference between a belief and a fact. (Click Here To Learn more) Beliefs allow us to do illogical things. A bee flies because he believes he can although his design makes this aerodynamically impossible. (See here).

So my friend, who says you can’t be your dream? Who is it that is asking you to be logical; to put childish things away?

I say go for it! Do it! Be it! Have it!

Why?

Because I believe you can!

Choose up!

i don’t know why. but my heart has just been stuck on the idea of impossible prayers. on praye

i don’t know why. but my heart has just been stuck on the idea of impossible prayers. on prayers for things that are impossible with man but so possible with God. God isn’t stuck inside the barriers of our minds. He transcends any and all human limitations.

this week I’ve really had a lot on my heart but just haven’t had the “time” to blog. but God isn’t that way. He has a lot on His mind and still can do everything he needs to do in accordance with his plan. He doesn’t prioritize school over personal time. He’s timeless.

In a society so grounded on the clock, I can’t just decide to go timeless. But believing in a God who has power all the time and at any time to do the impossible gives me freedom. It puts less pressure on the people I’m depending on and strengthens my relationship with the One who really matters.

What IS impossible with men IS possible with God.

As I think about the crazy prayers, no really crazy prayers come to mind. There are things I want and know that God can grant them to me but don’t know if I should really have those things at the moment. But at any split-second, God can flip this world upside-down. He makes our impossible possible.

In Him all things are possible. In Him. In all that He is. His possibilities are unfathomable to our minds.

He has an understanding that we barely get a glimpse of. So anything we see as impossible is so blatantly possible with him. It’s ridiculous.

Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.

By praying the impossible, we ask God for what we cannot obtain ourselves. So whatever the impossible, we grow closer to Him through praying the impossible. We put our trust in Him. Because we realize how dumb, powerless, and lost we are. We need our shepherd.

Some of my absurd prayers have to do with relationships… praying that my heart rests in God alone and doesn’t disseminate into others. Praying that I can have friends. Praying that He is using me and shaping me, even though I’m struggling through this current alone. Some of my prayers have to do about my future. Some of my prayers have to do about others. But whatever the subject, the point is the direction it’s going. I’m not trying to figure out messes on my own. I’m not looking for my identity in other things or people. I’m not doing heart prostitution.I’m looking towards the source of my strength.

It’s not about me. my problems. my prayers. etc. It’s about God.

off topic note–> i like how the shift key points up. how it has an upward arrow. that’s what i want to do with my heart, thoughts, and life. and how the control button is right under it. so in order to give God control you have to look up…. maybe i’m reading a little too far into my keyboard.<–

I believe God does the impossible. For nothing is impossible. And God is the jam.

Shifting and wrestling,

Read Genesis 18:1-15 here.

If you missed Sunday’s sermon (November 15) you can listen to it here.

In Genesis 18:14 God has just informed a 90 year old woman, Sarah, that in a year’s time she’ll give birth to a son. Naturally, she thinks He’s crazy, so He poses the question, “Is anything impossible for the Lord?” (HCSB) This is a question that we’ll periodically consider over the coming year.

I find it fascinating that God answers this question, thousands of years later, when talking to another woman He’s just made pregnant. In Luke 1:37 the angel Gabriel has just told the incredulous Mary that she will bear God’s Messiah, and that her elderly relative, Elizabeth, is miraculously pregnant also. Then Gabriel concludes, “For nothing is impossible with God.” (NIV)

Q. “Sarah, is anything impossible for the Lord?” ……………………………………. A. “Mary, nothing is impossible with God.”

Whenever I teach on passages like these I experience an urge to provide fine print for God. I feel that I need to explain that the examples of Sarah, Mary, & Elizabeth do not mean that God will provide a child to every Christian who seeks to be a parent. They don’t mean that every Christian will find a spouse, or that we’ll never suffer from significant illness or disease. So why have they been preserved for us?

I am convinced that these passages exist to demonstrate what God CAN do, not to promise what He WILL do. We could spend a whole lot of words trying to explain the WHY’s of infertility, singleness, illness, pain and suffering. But the chances are that when we got to the end of those words the struggle would still be there.

We will discuss these struggles at some point, but God doesn’t intend these passages to rub salt in our wounds, rather, He wants to inspire faith. In my experience it’s easy to lose sight of God’s possibilities while caught up in experiences and questions we don’t have answers for. As we seek answers to our WHY’s, God wants us to keep believing that He CAN. Nothing is impossible with God.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where passages of Scripture that are intended to inspire simply made you feel worse? Have you been able to resolve that conflict?

Hi again everyone, Your wide eyed cyclist again here. As you know would know from reading Carbonize

Hi again everyone,

Your wide eyed cyclist again here. As you know would know from reading Carbonize my Ride!!! that I’ve started a project to basically, well, carbonize my ride. I’m essentially putting my previously damaged (by CY) carbon Trek frame on my Merida bike. Then again, maybe it’s considered transferring my Merida’s components over to my carbon frame. Either way, I’ll end up with a sweet assed carbon bike, and a Merida alu frame with carbon forks to sell!!

Got a couple of things done to my bikes since the last post. Most notably, I’ve managed to straighten the bent dropout (considered impossible by a reputable bike shop in the Jurong area. God knows why…) AND I’ve fused the crack with an aluminium weld. Nice workmanship on the dropout by my welder I must say, considering the proximity of the crack to the derailleur mounting threads. Total job cost me coffee $$ of 10 bucks. Good deal considering that some mechanic told me that it was impossible to bend the dropout and save the frame. Here are some pics of the finished job.

I must admit that it’s not exactly elegant, but it serves its purpose, while preserving your piggy bank, and seriously, who actually looks behind and under your rear derailleur? (If you want the contact of the aluminium worker/company, drop me a comment/message with your contact info)

So now that the carbon frame has been fixed, I’ve gone shopping at bike shops for the cost of transferring components and parts from 1 bike to another. So here’s a mini report on prices in the Katong region and slightly beyond…

JOFI (Roxy square) $60 for swap. $40 for tune up with new cables.

Hong Soon Seng (Joo Chiat Rd) $60 for swap and tune up. $32 for 4 new cables.

Rodalink (East side) $55 for swap and tune up. $32+ for 4 new cables.

T3 (Siglap rd) $80 for swap and tune up.

Looks like I’ll be sending the bike in to a bike shop soon enough, so stay tuned for the before/after pictures!!

“Some people listen to themselves rather than listening to what others say. These people don’t come

“Some people listen to themselves rather than listening to what others say.
These people don’t come along very often,
But when they do,
They remind us,
That once you set out on a path,
Even though critics may doubt you,
It’s ok to believe,
That there is no can’t, won’t, or impossible.
They remind us, that it’s OK to believe,
Impossible … is nothing.”

Or,

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men
Who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given
Than to explore the power they have to change it.
Impossible is not a fact.
It’s an opinion.
Impossible is not a declaration.
It’s a dare.
Impossible is potential.
Impossible is temporary.
Impossible is nothing.”

Adidas believes in the above! It seems like there is something in there for all of us.

In the past, lands were overtaken, alters moved, hearts won and heads severed; sometimes for a cause and sometimes because these people, crazy in their ways, chose to look inward and listen to themselves and ignore others. They succeeded in their ways. They dominated the dimension of time. They overwhelmed the masses. They created history. They chose to listen to just one sound. The sound of the self. Just one sound!!

This sound emanates from within as a result of self confidence and belief. Belief to change oneself. Belief to change the world. With belief comes action and with action comes change. The power to withstand storms, the power to cut through the mountains, the power to rise into the sky, the power to span oceans, and the power to reach the moon. The power to do the impossible!

These souls of the soil, good or bad, Christ or Hitler, all had at least one similar quality; to move thoughts, to instill belief and to move the masses. They heard just one sound. They made it heard to the rest!

For them ‘impossible’ is just a word in the dictionary. Just a word! Nothing tangible. An illusion of fear. A perception of human constraints. A deception of our senses. Nothing real. Nothing permanent. Impossible is history. Not the future. Perhaps a milestone, at the most, which will pass, along the journey, or a mirage with no substance of its own but an artifice. The absence of possibility. Impossible is not possible!! Impossible is nothing!

So, go out in the world. Listen to yourself. Your rare self. Color the world in your colors. Instill thoughts and provoke actions and bring about change in the masses.

Impossible? Not really! Remember, you can do it, because impossible is nothing!

Hello and welcome to the first edition of the Mae Reed Book Blog. In this post I would very much like to discus a new book I’ve discovered titled Impossible written by a women named Nancy Werlin. Most of us, I’m guessing have read the ever popular Twilight series and while I’m a big admirer of Stephenie Meyer’s work , (for the plot of the series was very interesting), I thought it poorly written.

Now, the book I am reporting on is what I consider a complete step up and was a nice change from the “normal” books teens are so used to reading now-a-days. Unlike the smart, clumsy and slightly depressed heroines we are so used to seeing in our midst the heroine of this book is a very ordinary girl, Lucy Scarborough soon to be 18 has a normal life, good friends, on the school’s track team ( were she is neither the star nor the slacker ) and nice parents.

The story opens on our dear Lucy’s 7th birthday, wear she finds a letter from her birth mother. She thinks nothing of it at the time and tucks it away never to think of it until after her 17th birthday. It is now that we skip forward, Lucy, getting ready to go to prom as the preparations are underway the night is interrupted by Zach Greenfield, a next-door-neighbor and older brother type who is staying for the summer, Padraig Seeley, the creepy new co-worker of Lucy’s foster mother and Lucy’s mother herself.

On this note I would like to add that the chapter that we are first introduced Padraig Seeley( like most of the chapters involving him) was kindly cut short. I say kindly because as I read through this first chapter, I just felt dirty and sick, making me instantly dislike this character. Not to say that the character himself acted evil right away in fact every one he speaks to in the book, he automatically seems to calm them and gets them to tell them every thing about there lives, he gets them to trust him.

But what lies underneath his calming and beautiful features is of course the bad guy or bad elf, I should say. For he is determined to have Lucy, just like he had her mother and her grand mother and her great-grand mother and might have Lucy’s own daughter. The only way Lucy herself can stop this from happening is if she can complete the 3, IMPOSSIBLE tasks set forth in an old folk song her birth mother was always singing. With the help of her very understanding foster parents and the aforementioned Zach Greenfield, Lucy just might to be able to save herself and the rest of the Scarborough women.
