The birthday section on your Facebook ‘homepage’ should be something you check frequentl

The birthday section on your Facebook ‘homepage’ should be something you check frequently. Facebook has made it far less acceptable to forget, or God forbid completely miss, a birthday. I suggest going to each of your good friends’ Facebook pages and writing their birthdays in your personal calendar at the beginning of every year.

There are some friends with whom you are (basically) only in contact via Facebook – those friends are people who you can get away with only ‘wall postings’. You should still send your good friends and family members cards, or see them in person (what a novel thought) to celebrate the occasion.

The Facebook ‘wall’, is open for business all year-round. It amuses me when a ‘Wall-to-Wall’ is only birthday wishes. One way to remedy this situation is to personally ‘thank-post’ people who ‘birthday-post’ you. It takes more than a minute to do this but it is worth it. People will be happy or happily surprised that you ‘posted’ them back, nobody will think to themselves, “crap, so and so ‘posted’ on my ‘wall’” if they took the time to ‘birthday-post’ on your ‘wall’.

I recently had a birthday, which got me thinking about this topic. I also came across this conversation. For the record, I think it is okay to white lie if you only remembered a person’s birthday because of Facebook…at least you didn’t forget.

I would like to dedicate this post to my three Facebook friends with birthdays today: Laura, Craig and Lydia.

I finally retrieved my login information from my email inbox and logged into my Youtube account for the first time in months, probably since May, when I created the account. I’d been so put behind and backlogged with work that I put it as a priority but not the highest priority to handle that Youtube situation. See, when I first joined, I had a couple of nice days on my account but I did not keep it up. I may have still viewed many Youtube videos in the interim but not by logging on my own account or even by going to Youtube itself. Then, I began using a computer that did not have flash player.

Yet, without further adieu:

At http://www.youtube.com/user/1eDITORcHRIS, you can see my two newly uploaded videos. Plaese visit and enjoy!!! Comment, if you will :-} Remember to read the descriptions of the videos by clicking more info and that will allow you to learn a lot more about the respective video’s history.

Raja bergerak belakangan.

Tapi kalo gini saya seperti seorang putri dilindungi.

Takut salah perkataan. Kita lagi nunggu Donny pulang gereja.

Hari selasa besok Rapat lagi. Tunggu saja apa yang akan terjadi nanti

Published October 20, 2009 (Hardcover) Scribner

I am thankful that the pinging has quieted — nearly — for this holiday. The sound of tiny little elves working on a railroad with teeny little spikes and hammers, resting for a change.

I finally yesterday turned off the sound of emails in my BlackBerry. Until then, it was an orchestra of pings between my Outlook and four different emails in my BB — all varied tones, of course. But today, Thanksgiving, I heard just three dozen ping into Outlook — which means I only have 6,256 emails to go.

Naturally the title The Tyranny of E-Mail attracted my eye. Bright red cover. How could it miss. The myth Sisyphus comes to mind — he kept rolling a large rock uphill, and just as the goal seemed nigh, the rock rolled back downhill. I’ve queried busy, smart authors – Chuck Palahniuk says write first, then answer emails. Another author friend says she gives herself 24-minutes in the morning to do email, and then she has to walk away. Why 24, I do not know, but says the system works for her. I, too, pluck out the important ones, which is how I wound up with 6,256 I really should answer/file/delete someday. Some authors only do email at night, so there is a sense of completion — one email not spawning three or four or ten more. The Tyranny of E-Mail says the average office worker fields two hundred emails every day. Yeah, that’d be nice. John Freeman — who, like me, gets up to 300 a day — writes “Information overload is a $650 billion drag on the US economy every year.”

And, because we don’t see the sender’s face, we misunderstand emails half the time! That grim stat from the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, quoted in Tyranny. And, email is biologically addictive. How’s that for really sucking? Freeman says email is like playing the slots. There’s a payoff. Ping! Just shoot me.

Freeman: “We are at the beginning, not the end, of this problem.”

More than a complaint, Tyranny is a fascinating history of how we rolled out from clay envelopes in Turkey several thousand years ago through Kublai Khan and other military leaders to today’s speedy E’s. Freeman threads in charming and romantic mail stories — including historical stories like that of the Pony Express, which lasted just 18-months. He covers — among other improvements — the beginning of Time Zones, the impact of the telegraph, and the blooming of the newspaper industry, which now is in a demise. We learn who invented the Internet – not Al Gore, but he does have a piece of history with it. The first emails were sent in the early 60’s, with only two-percent of the popular emailing in 1992. By 2011, there will be 3.2 billion e-mail users. We also get Spam, cyberbullying, Facebook — and advice.

Advice! finally! Freeman has ten points — here are a few: just check your email twice a day, schedule a dinner date with a friend instead of sending a slew of emails, and schedule media-free time every day. We did that — went to the coast for Thanksgiving dinner — I checked my crackberry twice, I’ll admit – but the drive, the dinner, and the walk on the sand, as the tide pulled back — were deeply enriching.

Hope you had a wonderful day, too!

It’s funny how things unfold really and I don’t know if people are going to recognize who they are in this post but I’m going to write about them anyways.

A couple of months ago, a high school friend of mine sent me a message to go on a double date with her and her then-bf which I agreed but it never happened. Then she told me that she broke up with him, because he was afraid of commitment and he was young and confused. Also a long distance relationship never works out the way you planned it to. So he broke it off with her and they went their separate ways.

About a month ago, this ex-bf of hers which never spoke to me before, Facebook messaged me and told me that he really liked her still and all that but he went on the defensive and said he didn’t want to waste her time, and all that. I called her up and told her about it and she was quite flustered. I think they made contact.

A couple of days later she called me and asked if he ever spoke to me again, I said no. Which was true.

Then today he messaged me again, I think he was a little drunk. He started with:

Ex-bf: T, T, why haven’t you changed your last name yet.
Me: It is not customs here yet to change last names
Ex-bf: Hahaha, Hahaha
Me: Are you drunk?
Ex-bf: I just came back from a German Beer Party
Me: Sounds great. What’s the difference between a German beer party and normal beer parties?
Ex-bf: They have better beers
Me: Is Hoegardden German?
Ex-bf: No it’s Belgian. But I was organizing a work event and I decided to call everyone I know.
Me: Sounds like fun.
Ex-bf: It would’ve been better if that particular someone was there.
Me: Who? A new crush?
Ex-bf: Pik Yien LA
Me: If you miss her that much why did you leave her then?
Ex-bf: That’s a good point

He was mostly silent after that so I was also silent. He went on to say they’ve been on talking terms nowadays. And the conversation ended.

In my guess he regretted dumping her because he was naive and young. Well not that young. He’s 25, probably doesn’t know what he wants yet in life. In the end, I think he still loves her. But he still cannot see how they can be together or a long time due to the distance. And money it takes to fly back and forth.

I know how that feels. And it sucks. To not be able to be with that someone everyday.

Ehhh…

It’s like a real life drama. This entire month has been nothing but drama. Drama at work, drama at home, drama with the hubby, drama with friends etc.

I guess it is a November thing.

As the year 2009 comes to a close, the English language is forced to digress. Character limitations

As the year 2009 comes to a close, the English language is forced to digress. Character limitations of text messaging and social applications such as Twitter have forced us to condense what we have to say in to the shortest “words” possible. Some of these “words”, you can even find listed in the dictionary. William Shakespeare, John Donne, William Wordsworth… They must be having epileptic fits in their graves.

Coming from the past, you would require a translator to decode the hip lingo of our society. “Excuse me, but I must get going,” has been reduced to “G2G”. A courtesy good-bye… TTYL, TTFN. What kinds of relationships shall we keep with the deterioration of the English language on the rise? Only your text messaging inbox will tell.

It used to be that good rhetoric and eloquence was a signature of high class. Writers and speakers that held these gifts went down in history, and became notable quoted. Now, even those we admire with celebrity status have begun to use diluted versions of commonly used words.

Twitter, the easiest place to find watered down words, has even been named as a quotable source. Businesses may use the un-informative term BI to describe their business’ intelligence and be quoted on their happenings and goals. Or, someone may share memories of their DP… And similarly be quoted.

Words no longer flourish in our society. They have become underappreciated, hidden by a layer of dust and swept under the espresso leather sectional. Maybe one day a child will take them out to play and we will come to realization that we should have never let our true words go.

Or, be a BBMFIC and write in the manner the English language must be represented and be the eloquent human being that you always should have been.

If Spring Cleaning is for houses, desks, and paper work then Fall Cleaning is for the E-mess piling up on computers and inboxes. We spent almost an entire night last week Fall E-Cleaning. Now our desktops are clean and are inboxes organized. Everything is put away in folders, or better, in the the trash. The best thing about e-trash is it doesn’t have to be sorted or taken out on Mondays like real trash. Alyssa cleared out 400+ messages out of her inbox. Now they are nicely archived or trashed. I (Tyler) wrote over 50 messages in reply to skipped or delayed messages. Here are a few images of our E-mail inboxes nice and empty.

To quote ‘The Office’: Michael, “They say a cluttered desk is a cluttered mind. Well I say that an empty desk means a…” Dwight, “An empty mind” Michael, “No, that’s not…no, that’s not what I was going to say”

For now we’re enjoying our “empty mind” or at least having it be a little more clear.

I’ve been brewing some ideas on how to better improve the social media world. Remove the Integrated

I’ve been brewing some ideas on how to better improve the social media world.

Remove the Integrated Inbox. Quit it. It’s not helpful, it’s annoying, and it’s useless. But for some reason, every website thinks it’s a good idea to allocate resources, server space and man-power to the one thing you can guarantee everyone on the internet already has: their own e-mail address. I don’t see how this idea caught-on among the various social media sites, because it’s nothing but fat to be cute. Though alerts can be turned off, which is a step in the right direction: some sites go as far as e-mailing you that you have a message in your inbox. Just tell me, the goddamn, message.

I guess an even better solution would be a deal with a e-mail provider, like Google, where you can install an application to handle inboxes for various other sites. Much like a feed reader, you could simply browse through your Last.fm inbox, Facebook inbox, all from the comfort of your web-based browser: hopefully giving you the options to further filter those messages through the various settings on your regular e-mail address: like filters, labels and starring and search capabilities.

Texting Netflix has long been a dream of mine, and finally made possible with sites like Kwiry, but we’re not done just yet. Picture this: you’re in a movie theater, and you’ve just seen a movie that was fantastic. You can’t wait to go home and rate it, and tell all your friends how much you like it, and how fast they need to get out and go see it.

Movie Night
Originally uploaded by Kllerbreed

Now, wouldn’t it be nice if you at the end of the movie was a number to text your review, which will be fed to your Netflix queue to more quickly show your opinion of the movie: while simultaneously being collected by the movie industries to get near-instant feedback on the movie’s reception.

Offer Downloads, because people like me use them. This is another personal thing for me, but I can’t get enough of the little stuff when it comes to branding. If your site offers buddy icons, wallpapers, screensavers and other cool downloads, that’s a page full of free advertising that people like me eat up. I’ve noticed pages like that have started to diminish among various groups and sites: but I don’t understand how that’s not a staple of every TV show site, band, movie company and political group. C’mon people, it’s free.

And please, no more of those stupid one-use widgets to “Simpsonize” myself: give me something I can actually use. And offer some goddamn 1920×1080 wallpaper while you’re at it.

Football, and other sports like baseball and basketball seem to have the biggest budgets for advertising, but have yet to put together an amazing social media platform. It’s strange to think about how many millions of Americans are sports fans, but how little been done to harness this potentially huge market. All the fan interaction and information to be shared just screams potential. And in what aspect of culture do more Americans voice their opinions in more than sports?

Don’t get me wrong, some sites like ToppsTown are rising to the top, to capitalize on this market: but the fact that no major force has come to power over this is a little shocking. In addition, the personalities of professional players are goldmines alone: look at Chad Ochocinco’s success in launching an iPhone app, and his own news network.

Last.fm has made a business of connecting music fans. Facebook made millions connecting college students. Flickr has established itself connecting photographers. Yet no dominate social network has taken over sports. Strange.

Well people, there you go: three posts about how to make the internet more awesome. Now there’s no excuse. And please, share these ideas and collect your own to share!

In my year-and-a-half working a real-person job, I’ve accumulated several tidbits of truth that The Real World keeps hidden.

The first of these? Inbox arithmetic. The amount of time spent sorting email grows exponentially with each day spent out of the office. For example, after being out of the office on from Wednesday through Friday this week, I can plan to spend six times more on email than I would on an ordinary Monday.

Anyone who can explain this phenomenon will become my temporary hero. Drives. Me. Bonkers.

Oh. My. God. YES!!! I can now call myself 100% official and future exchange student for USA in 2010/2011! I got the email from Explorius around 6 o’clock today, but I didn’t see it before at 7 o’clock when my mum told me about it- I had spent the day with my best friend, Gitte. We had lots of fun, although we were rather tired after the Crazy Christmas Caberet with class last night (more about this in next post). Needless to say, I was overjoyed when I found the (in total three) mails in my inbox. I’ve been randomly close to exploding the last few hours, due to the big feeling of happiness inside of my chest! That’s what kept me from posting earlier- pure excitement! I am now currently going through the online application form that you have to fill out in order to receive a host family. Currently I am wondering whether or not to choose any specific states- choosing just a region costs extra money, and you can only choose three states, which I’m worried will narrow down my potential host families too much. I seriously need to figure this out, because if I am to choose three preferred states, I have be done with the application before the 1st of December, which is quite soon.

Well, the last part was just a nervous ramble. I am REALLY excited! Just filling out the application randomly makes my stomach twist and turn with joy! I really do have exchange mania! Oh, that reminds me that I wrote a small article about that on ExchangeStudentWorld.com (: Anyways, I’m trying to piece together some of my letter for my to-be host family, so bye for now~

Well since this is my first post ever, I thought I’d start of with a very simply tip for all you new Blackberry users out there (some may be not new but just don’t know how to do this). The following is a step by step guide on mass deleting your e-mails. If you wanna save some space on your device or simply wanna get rid of those bulk e-mails which u already read then this will definitely come in handy.

1. First step is of course open up your e-mail inbox

2. Hold the shift key and scroll the trackball up or down to highlight the selection of e-mails u want to delete.

3. Now press the delete button on your keypad, you will be given a choice to delete the mails on the device and mailbox or just on the device (maintaining the e-mails if you access them thru your pc). That’s it! You’re done! You can use this for mass deleting SMSes as well.

Well, I know to many this may seem like oh so simple but trust me there are many ppl out there who do not know about this. Pls feel free to leave a comment or ask me questions so I may address them in the future posts.
