Two-Step Strategy to Making a Fortune in Gold

Everything is in place for gold. And as gold makes incrementally new highs and rebounds from the eventual and unexpected corrections, there will be more opportunity.
But at this stage in gold’s run, there’s a simple two step strategy to make a fortune in gold in the next few years.

Step 1) Make a plan to buy gold and gold stocks over the next three to five years

Step 2) Stick to the plan

That’s the beauty of getting in something relatively early. Gold has made a good run over the last eight years, but the biggest money will likely be made in the next eight years as a lot more money piles into the “utter nonsense” that is gold.

As well as the million and one other things I have to do this Autumn, I am finally making some substantial progress with my MA dissertation. I am studying for a Master of Arts in Theology for Christian Ministry and Mission with STETS.

Originally I had planned for my MA dissertation to track and evaluate the process of discernment I had outlined before taking up my post. The research aspect of the dissertation would have come from the ethnography I was planning to undertake in each of the potential mission contexts I identified. The trouble was firstly that I struggled to find time alongside this work to make progress on the dissertation. And secondly as I spent time in each setting, it was decreasingly recognisable as research and more like the raw stuff of mission. I don’t approach these places as a research student but as a christian priest. I’ve written elsewhere on why that might tend to make one a poor researcher.

There is a proper place for listening and observing as one enters new realms of human experience, but I have also felt the need to attempt to bring something real and positive into each place I come to – to make a contribution to the life I encounter from the outset of that encounter.

So as I pick up my dissertation again after summer break, I need to rethink how I might attack it. I still want to focus on discernment as it seems to me that this is a key charism for pioneers as they found and lead new missional communities and embark in new forms if mission. If our task is to participate in the mission of God in the world, we need to be able to discern what God might be doing where we are. And we need to be able to discern how we are being called to participate.

It just so happens that this coincides with the St Luke’s PCC taking a decision on my proposal to relocate our Sunday gathering in one of the nearby tower blocks and to change the nature of what we do. With the encouragement of my colleague, I introduced some Ignatian style prayer to the proceedings. Each participant was given a sheet that invited them to write down what excited them and what concerned them about the proposal. We then took a turn to share our concerns, and then again to share our excitement. Writing first meant that we were more likely to listen to each other instead of mentally preparing our contribution while others were speaking. Then we went away on our own for a few minutes to silently reflect and pray on what we’d learnt. I suggested people might want to imagine themselves in the scene of Jesus and the woman of Samaria at the well from John 4. They could imagine themselves as the woman or as an observer. I asked them to focus on the moment when Jesus says ‘true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth’ and hold a conversation with him in their imagination about what that means for us now.

There are deep, deep wells in the Christian tradition, offering spiritual practices of discernment. The Jesuit (Ignatian) tradition is very strong on this, but it occurs to me that there are other approaches too. There are more ecstatic approaches to discernment in the Pentecostal/Charismatic traditions for instance. I have begun to delve a bit deeper to see what else there is in the tradition. I am looking at the Desert Fathers and Benedict. I will take a look at Richard Hooker and perhaps the more recent experience of Indaba groups at the Lambeth conference.

Given that discernment is so important, I wondered how well prepared pioneer ministers are for approaching those moments. I wasn’t trained on the pioneer track – I came to this mode of ministry later. But when you take a look at the guidance on starting a fresh expression of church, for instance, prayer is mentioned as something one would naturally want to do, but that’s where it stops. If we ask the question of the Christian tradition, ‘Are there ways of praying that will help us to discern our calling?’, then the answer is clearly yes.

There are of course, other important moments in the process of discerning a way forward. But if we are to go beyond something that looks a lot like market research, there surely has to be a strong spirituality component. I have a sense that the managerialism that John Millbank decries in his incendiary ‘Stale expressions: the management-shaped church’ is somewhat evident in the way pioneer ministers (including myself) are encouraged and so do conceive of the new form of church/mission that might be appropriate for their context. (His critique goes deeper than that, of course.)

So I am now working towards researching the question of the extent to which pioneer ministers reach their decisions by drawing on those spiritual practices of discernment from the tradition.

To what extent have spiritual practices of discernment from the Christian tradition informed four Anglican pioneer ministers as they have engaged in the process of determining their response to their particular mission context?

And here’s the first paragraph of my draft proposal:

This author contends that those appointed ‘pioneer’ by the Church of England are not as well versed in the spiritual practices of discernment that the Christian tradition has to offer as might be helpful or appropriate in the exercise of their ministry. It could be instructive for the development of initial and ongoing pioneer ministerial training and formation to test this hypothesis. It may also yield insights into the appropriateness of particular spiritual practices of discernment for the particular situations into which pioneer ministers are sent. The proposed research could thus begin to indicate both the need for, and the content of, an additional component of ministerial formation.

I am proposing to examine my own practice and that of three other volunteers (victims?) and to test this hypothesis. I will make contact with as many of the training institutions as I can to see whether spiritual practices of discernment are part of their curricula and I hope to keep a conversation going here as I discover more.

I was pleased to see gold trading at 1007 this morning as i woke. I think it has been building a base at 1000 and refuses to stay below that mark for any length of time. With gold appreciating the outlook for Oromin gets brighter and brighter. The larger gold stocks are not as highly leveraged to the price of gold as is Oromin. The NAV and IRR of the sabodala project improve greatly with any increase in gold over 900/oz. Notwithstanding any benefit from the current work being done on Sabodala to increase the economics from within. The combination of the price of gold going up and work being done on the ground, the project economics look a lot better than they did at the time of the Pre feas release. I understand it had a time constraint as it was tied to the application for a mining liscence. The application has been filed and a team will be going to the property to follow up on the application process. The general public and media are starting to look around for highly leveraged gold plays and when they find it in combination with an appreciating gold price we will make our money back and then some.

The stock depth is looking a lot better, i was told the Europe trip was a success. Looking at the trades there are 2 new buyers and i think they are european. Toll cross has been doing some crossing trades for some size. The depth is looking better than is has ever. There are some large bids that are in place and i think the sentiment is begining to turn.

One interesting point I made in a comment last week was the fact that someone is accumulating large blocks of MDL on the TSX. So far 30 million shares have changed hands this month with GMP and Toll cross being the big buyers, Credit Suisse is 3rd and has also begun accumulating oromin shares, and thanks to Muttley adding the fact that 30 or so million shares traded onthe ASX thats 60 million shares in a month.. interesting

There is a lot of speculation on the street about how the deal will go down. The truth is no one knows .. there are as i see it 4 players (maybe more) Oromin MDL Iamgold and Randgold. With mdl having the plant in place it makes sense to have mdl included in the deal. Will mdl be taken out first?.. i guess it depends who is taking up the shares in mdl..Iamgolds stake in Oromin will also play a role. They already have a head start so it looks like they are the front runner. But what if Oromin was to make a run at MDL! The combined company would have almost 7 million ounces and be in production with probably 4 million upgraded ounces. I have always said that Oromins property was a 10 million ouncer add mdl’s 3.5 and some blue sky we are at 13 – 15 million ounces .. all of a sudden Oromin is a significant mid tier producer going into the biggest gold rally of the last 25 years!..

Oromin and MDL have always had a good relationship..and remembering back to the merger mania of the 80’s the project synergy is there.. we have the oxides and the blue sky ounces on our property and MDl have the mill.. they need oxides and we need a mill ..

i see some pretty exciting times ahead with some big numbers being thrown around!

PFS RESULTS, CONCLUSION AND DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Oromin Explorations Ltd. (“Oromin”), on behalf of the Oromin Joint Venture Group (“OJVG”), is pleased to announce that SRK Consulting (Canada) Inc. (“SRK”) has completed the initial Preliminary Feasibility Study (“PFS”) on the Sabodala Project. The PFS is based on Indicated Resources that were defined by drilling up to May 29, 2009 and does not incorporate the new higher grade gold discoveries that have resulted from subsequent drilling. Completion of the PFS was dictated by the timing of the OJVG’s license renewal obligations with the Government of Senegal. Accordingly, timing did not permit inclusion of new mineralization or most of the optimization studies, discussed below, that are typically carried out subsequent to the initial economic evaluation contained within the PFS. Resource drilling, inclusion of the new higher grade discoveries and higher grade extensions of the known deposits and optimization studies towards a revised PFS in Q2, 2010 is the focus of OJVG’s current program.

In the PFS, SRK proposes that Sabodala’s mineral deposits could be exploited as three open pits at Golouma West and South, Kerekounda and Masato, along with an underground mine at Kerekounda. The Life of Mine “LOM” plan shows a total of 19.0 million tonnes (“Mt”) of mill feed and 137.2 Mt of waste over a 13 year mine operating life. The PFS concludes that, based on the indicated resource base as of May 2009, the project has a Net Present Value (“NPV”) using a gold price of USD$950 and a 0% discount rate, of USD$54 million with an IRR of 4%. However, the base case using a gold price of USD$850, the price used for the design of the mine plan, shows a NPV of USD-$54 million using a 0% discount rate. Total initial preproduction capital expenditures including contingency is USD$279 million and average estimated operating cost is USD$580 per ounce of gold.

In the PFS, numerous opportunities for improvement of project economics were noted including:

- Addition of higher grade mineralization to obtain quicker payback

- Reduction in costs due to a modified approach to mining and processing methodology, design and construction

- Addition of Indicated Resources from areas of known deposits that could add mine life and modify plant throughput.

The preliminary metallurgical results are excellent, indicating that all mineralized zones are amenable to cyanidation and yielding recoveries up to 90% at Golouma and 95% and 96% at Masato and Kerekounda respectively. Some of the other favourable metallurgical characteristics include relatively rapid leach kinetics, low cyanide consumption and oxide ores that are amenable to heap leaching.

Ausenco Minerals Canada Ltd. (“Ausenco”) has recently been engaged to audit the capital expenditures, operating expenditures and process design aspects of the PFS. Ausenco was responsible for the design and implementation of the adjacent Mineral Deposit Limited’s (“MDL”) Sabodala mill which has, as of August, produced 96,000 ounces of gold since start up in March of 2009 and continues to run at 15% above capacity. Ausenco completed an initial review in which it has identified a number or areas that may be optimized which could potentially result in a significant reduction in the capital expenditures. Based on Ausenco’s recommendations, SRK and Ausenco are proceeding immediately with the further studies related to the optimization of the mine and processing design that will have the greatest impact on improving overall project economics, including:

- Reduction in plant footprint

- Use of heap leach to treat mineralization at Masato, operating concurrently with mining at the Golouma and Kerekounda deposits

- Optimization of plant throughput and associated mine design and schedule

- Rationalization of plant equipment

- Review of processing design criteria

Although excellent recoveries (up to 95%) were achieved by processing the Masato ore through the same CIL plant proposed to treat ore from all of the deposits, there may be some economic gains such as lower processing costs and increased gold production during the early years of the mine life by treating the Masato ore as a separate heap leach operation concurrent with mining and processing ore from the higher grade gold deposits.

Chet Idziszek, Oromin’s President and CEO, stated: “The results of the initial preliminary feasibility study are based on assumptions at one point in time and are interim in nature. We expect the 2010 revision of the initial study to improve the project economics as a result of capital cost reductions, altered mining scenarios identified by optimization studies and the inclusion of other and new higher grade deposits and higher grade underground potential at existing deposits. The initial study is a major milestone for this project, given that Sabodala was essentially a raw prospect when we commenced our drilling three years ago. Newly discovered resource ounces may positively impact the optimization of the currently proposed mine plan and treatment facility and enhance the net value of the Sabodala Project. We will continue our aggressive drill program beyond the end of 2009, the results from which will form the basis of the revised PFS in 2010. We are also very encouraged by the interest shown in our project by senior mining companies working in the area and by international investment banks such as CIBC World Markets and Euroz Securities Limited. An indication of this interest is clearly shown by Iamgold’s recent acquisition of a 17% shareholding in Oromin.”

As part of its application to the Government of Senegal for a mining licence, OJVG submitted a development plan that outlines the work to address the recommendations in the PFS, culminating in the preparation of a revised PFS in Q2, 2010.

The focus during the first half of 2009 included the completion of OJVG’s February 27, 2009 resource update which added 860,000 inferred ounces to the initial resource estimate bringing the total contained Inferred Resource to 2.26 million ounces of gold; infill and step out drilling at the Masato and Kerekounda deposits; considerable engineering and drilling directed by SRK for the PFS; detailed surface geochemical and trench evaluation of untested priority targets and initiation of follow-up drilling of new discoveries and resource updates as reported in this release.

The focus from now to Q2, 2010 will be resource expansion and the completion of optimization studies for the revised PFS. This includes the continued drilling and inclusion of new higher grade gold targets such as Epsilon, Golouma Northwest, Cloverleaf, and Kobokoto and the drilling and inclusion of higher grade down dip extensions of current Indicated Resources at the Kerekounda, Golouma West and South deposits to determine the full extent of this mineralization as new potential underground mineable reserves.

The Sabodala gold district hosts greater than 10 million ounces of resources and has significant potential for expansion. It is becoming a mineral camp that may be of equal or greater stature than the long term gold producing operations of Iamgold and Randgold nearby in Mali. Recent independent reviews of the Sabodala district by CIBC World Markets (July 20, 2009) and Euroz Securities Limited (August 27, 2009) have discussed the possibility of joint operations with other companies active in the area. SRK’s optimization studies will include, in addition to work focused on Sabodala as a stand alone operation, trade off studies to determine the viability and value of alternate development scenarios such as toll milling or joint operations.

UPDATED MINERAL RESOURCE ESTIMATE

The global mineral inventory for OJVG’s Sabodala Project stands at 64 million tonnes grading 1.5 g/t Au containing 2.96 million ounces of gold based on drill data collected as of May 29, 2009. Contained within this global inventory, are the following classified Indicated and Inferred mineral resource estimates:

SRK Consulting (UK) Ltd. carried out a mineral resource estimate update (“Resource Estimate”) for the four most advanced stage deposits on the property, Golouma West, Golouma South, Kerekounda and Masato. Additionally, initial resource estimates for Maki Medina and Niakafiri SE were also derived, but not included in the economic analysis in the PFS as they are classified as inferred resources. Dr Wayne Barnett of SRK, Ali Shahkar (P.Geo) and Susan Lomas (P.Geo.) of Lion’s Gate Geological Consulting Inc. constructed all 3D grade shell models for the deposits. SRK’s Dr. John Arthur, C. Geol. and Dr. Chris Bonson, EurGeol, reviewed all 3D models and pertinent geological information and exploration activities on-site in sufficient detail to support the data incorporated in the mineral resource estimate. Quality control and quality assurance programs were reviewed by SRK and the quality of the exploration data was deemed appropriate and acceptable for use in the Resource Estimate.

The principal components of the work upon which the mineral resource estimate is based included:

- Construction of 3D estimation domains (grade shells) based on drill hole lithological logs, core photos, structural geological data and Au assays; and 3D modelling of major dykes which intrude the Golouma West and Kerekounda deposits.

- Statistical analysis and geostatistical analysis of the drillhole assay data from each of the deposits, including descriptive statistics, histograms and variography.

- Mineral resource estimates were derived using assay data composited to 1 m intervals, capped where necessary. All estimations used Ordinary Kriging, using optimised search ellipsoids.

- Construction of a mineral inventory block model and subsequent Whittle(TM) resource shell based on the following parameters:

– US$1000/oz Au;

– mill recovery of 96% at Kerekounda; 90% at Golouma South and West; and 95% at Masato;

– US$1.25/t mined mining cost;

– US$12.75/t milled processing and G&A cost;

– US$13.5/oz Au offsite costs;

– 10% mining dilution;

– 45 degree pit slope angles.

The resource for the Golouma West, Golouma South, Masato and Kerekounda deposits has been classified as Indicated and Inferred, as defined by CIM guidelines and were constrained by the Whittle resource shell optimization. The Niakafiri Southeast and Maki Medina mineral resources were constrained by depths based on comparisons with resource shell depths from the Masato deposit, which shows similar geological and grade characteristics. SRK is satisfied that the estimated resources are potentially economically extractable.

Based on the results from the metallurgical sampling program, the Masato deposit has almost entirely been classified as an oxide resource, including mineralization within the upper saprolite horizon. Preliminary column leach testing of a high grade and low grade sample of the Masato oxide ore material resulted in a gold extraction of 73% and 84% respectively. This is very encouraging as it presents an opportunity whereby the Masato deposit may be mined as a separate heap leach operation concurrent with the mining and processing of ore from the higher grade deposits that will be processed through the proposed conventional CIL plant.

In the PFS, Masato is shown as being mined near the end of the mine life and processed through the same mill and CIL plant that was designed to process ore from the higher grade deposits. Treating ore from the Masato orebody as a stand alone heap leach operation could conceivably occur at the same time as, or in advance of, ore being mined from the higher grade deposits, increasing the gold production during the early years of the mine life, possibly reducing the payback period. Additionally, treating Masato as a heap leach operation may represent a net cost savings on the capital expenditures associated with trade off of constructing a second crushing circuit and reducing the throughput of the CIL plant that would be required to treat a smaller number of tonnes of higher grade gold ore from the remaining deposits. Additionally, lower processing costs associated with a heap leach operation may result in an increase in bulk tonnage resources due to the inclusion of additional resources at a lower cut off grade, not only at Masato and but also potentially at Maki Medina and Niakafiri. The option of mining and treating the Masato ore as a separate heap leach operation concurrent with the development of the higher grade deposits was not considered until the economics of processing all of the OJVG’s deposits through a single CIL plant was completed and evaluated and presented in the current PFS. As mentioned earlier timing of the current PFS did not permit key optimization studies. However, the viability of these options will be determined through planned engineering and optimization studies conducted by SRK and Ausenco this fall.

NEW DISCOVERIES

The gold deposits and prospects on OJVG’s Sabodala concession occur within a five kilometre wide, northeast trending structural corridor which runs for 20 kilometres along the entire length of the concession. The western part of the corridor is associated with lower grade, bulk tonnage gold deposits including OJVG’s Masato, Niakafiri South East and Maki Medina deposits as well as MDL’s adjacent Sabodala and Niakafiri deposits. The eastern side of the corridor is entirely contained on the OJVG concession and is host to all of OJVG’s higher grade occurrences (Golouma West, Golouma South, Kerekounda), the recent higher grade discoveries (Epsilon, Golouma Northwest and Cloverleaf), as well as a number of untested targets.

The new higher grade discoveries have resulted from the OJVG’s attention to the eastern, higher grade portion of this structural corridor in 2009. These discoveries are expressed at surface as narrow, linear high grade gold-in-soil anomalies within the limits of the broader gold-in-soil anomalies that occur along the full extent of the structural corridor on the Sabodala concession. OJVG’s exploration success this year has resulted from the systematic, detailed evaluation of surface soil and trenching data collected to date. Although our work in 2009 has resulted in the identification of four new higher grade targets and definition of higher grade zones within our known deposits, this work is ongoing and many of the second and third tier anomalies remain untested by drilling.

Mr. Idziszek stated: “Despite directing a number of diamond drill rigs to the geotechnical drilling program required for SRK’s mining studies during the first half of 2009, we have made great progress in understanding what is controlling the orientation and distribution of higher grade mineralization on the property. This has been a key factor in our continually improving success rate in drill testing new targets and finding new higher grade deposits.”

Epsilon Deposit and Area Targets

Drilling continues at a newly discovered, discrete zone of higher grade gold mineralization, now referred to as the Epsilon deposit, adjacent to, and now including the Golouma Northeast zone. Epsilon is located approximately 1 km south of the Kerekounda deposit. The discovery holes at the Epsilon deposit returned results including: 98.37 g/t gold over 3 metres in DH-72 and 17.61 g/t gold over 8 metres in DH-73.

The Epsilon target consists of at least two parallel, NW trending, steeply dipping vein systems open along strike and to depth. As evidenced by the higher gold grades encountered in the previous and new drill holes summarized below, visible gold has been observed in most intersections of the quartz vein systems. To date, Epsilon has been intersected in 16 drill holes over a strike length of 100 metres and approximately 200 metres down dip. Drill results from the original discovery holes (RC-578, RC-579 and DH-456) and recent drilling are summarized in the following table:

An additional target of interest at Epsilon is a sub-parallel, shear hosted quartz vein system, with visible gold mineralization, being aggressively mined by local artisanal miners along an approximate 200 metre strike extent. This vein system lies approximately 100 metres north of the current area of drilling and was first discovered recently by an OJVG trench that intersected a six metre interval grading 6.72 g/t gold. Drilling has started on this high priority new discovery.

Kobokoto

The Kobokoto area comprises a grouping of multiple gold-in-soil geochemical anomalies expressed as windows within a vast lateritic covered plateau measuring a minimum of 2,500 metres by 3,000 metres located to the west of Maki Medina. Presently three discrete areas, Alpha, Beta and Gamma, have been selected for ongoing detailed prospecting, geochemical sampling, trenching and drilling evaluations. Results to date are set out below.

Kobokoto Alpha is presently defined by a greater than 100ppb gold-in-soil anomaly displaying both NW and NE trending structures over a 600-metre by 150-metre area. This target represents one of the highest grade gold-in-soil anomalies on the Sabodala Property with 15 individual samples in excess of 1.0 g/t gold including high values of 10.8 g/t, 12.1 g/t and 29.3 g/t gold. Initial drilling of the anomaly includes DH-108 which returned an interval of 10.13 g/t gold over 3 metres. Extensive trenching is now under way to better define the complex structural targets for drill targeting. Visual success within the trenching has caught the attention of local artisanal miners who are now actively mining at Kobokoto Alpha.

At Kobokoto Beta, a greater than 100ppb gold-in-soil anomaly comprising an area of 400 metres by 100 metres, including a high gold-in-soil result of 71.7 g/t gold, hosts at least two NE trending structural hosted quartz vein system containing rock prospecting gold results of 21.33 g/t, 22.00 g/t, 24.16 g/t and 36.73g/t. Most recently a series of short drill holes over only a 50-metre extent of the Kobokoto Beta zone were completed, many of which intersected felsic dyking at or adjacent to the targeted vein. Golouma Northwest Target

The Golouma Northwest target is located approximately 450 metres north of the Golouma West Deposit. The target was defined on surface by a 250 by 260 metre gold-in-soil anomaly and has been intersected in seven drill holes along a strike length of 100 metres and approximately 100 metres down dip. The zone consists of a northwest trending shear hosted quartz vein system. Visible gold has been reported in two of the five core holes completed to date. Initial drilling results include:

MANAGEMENT ACUMEN
Members of Oromin’s management team have been involved in
significant successful exploration discoveries and mining
developments, including:
● Hemlo gold deposit (30 million ounces gold) in Canada
● Eskay Creek gold&silver deposit (4 million oz.) in Canada
● Arequipa’s Pierina Gold deposit (7 million ounces) in Peru
● Petaquilla copper-gold deposit (1.1 billion tonne reserve) in

EXPLORATION ACTIVITIES
Oromin is active in two countries: gold exploration in Senegal;
and oil prospecting in Argentina.

A. SENEGAL

1. Sabodala Gold Concession
Oromin is a 43.5% owner and the operator of OJVG, a private
company formed to hold 100% of the approximate 230 sq. km.
Sabodala exploration concession in eastern Senegal. The
concession surrounds completely the 33 sq. km. exploitation
concession of Mineral Deposits Limited where gold production
has already commenced.

The other members of the OJVG are Bendon International
(“Bendon”), a well-funded, private Saudi-controlled group also
with 43.5%, and Badr Investment & Finance Co., a private
Arab-African well-funded group, with 13%. The expenditures
for the OJVG are funded equally by Oromin and Bendon.

2. Exploration Results

The accompanying map shows how much OJVG has
accomplished since it initiated work on the Sabodala
concession in 2005. Work by OJVG shows great promise with
6 gold deposits and 11 prospects discovered to date. They are
related to shear zones within a 5-8 km wide and about 22 km
long north-east trending structural corridor.

COMMENT: This confirms that a new gold district is
unfolding in the Sabodala area. There is already a NI43-101
inferred resource of 2.3 million ounces of gold, of which
Oromin’s share is 1 million ounces.

The combined resource at OJVG’s three Goloumba deposits
totals 0.94 million ounces gold in 9.7 million tonnes, grading
3.01 g/t gold. The Masato deposit resource totals 1.32 mllion
ounces gold in 35.4 million tonnes, grading 1.16 g/t gold @ 0.5
g/t @ g/t cut-off grade, or 860,000 ounces gold grading 1.74
g/t gold g/t gold @ 1.0 g/t cut-off grade.

3. Other Active Mining Companies Nearby

In addition to OJVG’s six deposits, there are four others held
by Mineral Deposits Limited (“MDL”) with two, RandGold
Resources Limited with one and IAMGOLD one, making
this district one of the most active and successful gold
exploration areas in Africa.

COMMENT: This activity has highlighted the importance
of this area of West Africa which has attracted the interest of
senior mining companies looking for significant gold
acquisitions. Not the least among them is IAMGOLD with its
17% stake in Oromin.

4. Mineral Deposits’ Mill

The maps (above and below) show that the OJVG
concession surrounds completely the Mineral Deposits’
exploitation permit. MDL expects to produce 160,000
ounces of gold in 2009. Barring a consolidation of the entire
district by a senior company, the MDL plant could be easily
expanded at a fraction of the cost of a new facility to offer a
“toll-milling” opportunity, particularly for OJVG, which has
very similar geology and gold recovery to that of MDL.

OJVG’s Masato Deposit is only 1.4 km due east of MDL’s
mine, and cost efficiencies suggest it should be developed in
conjunction with MDL. Even the three Golouma deposits
that have collectively almost a million ounces are only six
km away from the Sabodala mine and the Niakafiri deposits
of both OJVG and MDL will likely be developed together.

5. Prefeasibility Study

As OJVG moves towards the completion of its Pre-
Feasibility study this quarter, it expects the majority
of its 2.26 million ounce “inferred resources” to be
converted into “mineable reserves”. There is also
positive underground potential that is not included
in the resource calculations. The planned 2009
drilling program of 100,000 metres should also add
significant new gold ounces and identify further
“Blue Sky” potential.

6. Senegalese Mining Convention

Under the Senegalese Mining Convention, the
Government receives:
● A 10% free carried interest after capital
repayment
● A royalty of US$6.50 /oz of gold produced
There will also be:
● No import, export, VAT or withholding taxes
during the exploration and development phases; and
● A minimum 7 years tax-free status during the
mining phase.

B. ARGENTINA

Oromin has a 67.52% interest in an oil prospect in
Mendoza Province, Argentina. In early July, a drill
rig was brought to the site and drilling commenced
in mid July. The shares of Oromin moved up from
the $0.90 level to reach $1.40 during the month in
anticipation of success. At the end of July, Oromin
announced that it had not encountered any
hydrocarbons in the hole. The abandonment of the
hole led to the share price returning to the $0.90
level.

COMMENT: The Company is re-evaluating the
prospect to decide whether or not to proceed
further. Should more drilling be attempted the
shares could again respond positively. However, it
would seem that the market is only paying for
Sabodala, making Santa Rosa a possible bonus.

Oromin Explorations Ltd. – operator of the Santa Rosa oil & gas prospect in Argentina

As the world economy gradually recovers, the energy demand and companies in the oil and gas business are expected to win back the investors. Both producing companies and exploration companies saw new highs in their valuations during the heady days when oil prices surpassed $140 a barrel. Matters have changed now but going by improving statistics good days are not too far ahead for oil companies.

We have highlighted the potential for oil and gas exploration companies in Argentina in a detailed report few months ago. To the impressive list of companies in that space, a worthwhile addition is Canadian Venture and the US bulletin Board listed Oromin Explorations Ltd. (TSX.V: OLE, OTCBB: OLEPF). Oromin through a wholly owned subsidiary has 67.52% interest in an oil and gas prospect (Santa Rosa prospect) in the Cuyana Basin, Argentina. Otto Energy Limited, Australia owns the remaining 32.48%. Oromin is the project operator.

For those who are less familiar with the terrain, the Cuyana Basin is in Argentina’s Mendoza province, which has seen considerable exploration activity. During a licencing round in 2006, the province received 18 bids to explore four hydrocarbons blocks. Two of these blocks, namely, Nacunan and Los Tordillos Oeste blocks are in the Cuyana basin.

The Santa Rosa prospect covers a large, shallow untested dome structure in the under-explored eastern half of the Cuyana Basin in Argentina. The property is underlain by the same sedimentary sequences as producing oil-and-gas fields in the western part of the Basin, and has similar geological and structural settings necessary for the source, maturation, migration and accumulation of hydrocarbons. Data from seismic surveys have identified drill sites for proposed future test-wells.

Oromin announced the mobilization of the rig for drilling well OLE.MD.SREX2001 on the Santa Rosa Dome prospect. After spudding, it will take approximately 7 to 10 days to reach the target depth of approximately 1,300 metres to test the Conglomerate Violaceo, Barrancas, Potrerillos and Las Cabras formations. The company is expected to make an announcement when spudding commences. Santa Rosa Dome has a National Instrument 51-101 compliant technical report.

In addition to its oil and gas interests in Argentina, Oromin is currently developing gold prospects in Senegal, with some of them having NI 43-101 compliant resource estimates. The company is serious about the development of its properties and recently raised $20 million through a private placement. Busy days are ahead for Oromin both in Senegal and Argentina.

Oromin Offices July 14th

In attendance were Chet, Jim, Ian and David Mallo, as well as one analyst and three shareholders including me. There were 122 shareholders present by proxy and in person representing 22 million shares, or about 33% of the shares.

There will be several repeats of the presentations we saw today for groups of analysts and brokers over the next couple of days as scheduling problems prevented everyone being in the same room at the same time.

Jim dispensed with the formal parts of the meeting quickly, all motions passed as per the information circular.

The overview of the share capital was brief with just over 100 million shares issued and over $18 million in the treasury. Insiders and associates hold 25% as well as Iamgold becoming a minority shareholder with 17%.

Chet began with a short intro about the Birimian Terrane which includes Senegal and Mali. He noted that Mali has about 30 million ounces of gold over 30 years of exploration whereas Senegal has nearly 10 million ounces proved up in only the last 6 years.

We have 6 deposits, 4 of which contain 2.3 million ounces, 2 more unreported as yet with a further 11 targets to be evaluated and drilled.

David began the PowerPoint presentation, it was informal and discussion was encouraged. The room was full of floor to ceiling maps of drilling and annual satellite photos tracking progress at the project. We began talking about the Sabodala and finished with Santa Rosa.

The next phase of drilling is slated for 100,000 meters, which works out to around 500 more holes split between the core drills and the RC rigs. A lot of work as been done figuring out the complex structure at Sabodala in the last year. This work will help in the modeling and understanding of the deposits and aid in the search for yet-to-be discovered resources.

Golouma is the center of a growing mineralized zone, which includes Kerekounda to the north and stretches to Cloverleaf in the south. Drilling continues to find high grade zones within the complex.
Golouma is showing very nice grades at depth with several deep holes scheduled in the near future. The grades are increasing at depth with some very nice results coming from below the main Golouma structure. Underground mining is a possibility here with a high grade area that rivals Kerekounda in size. The next area of possible highgrade is the NE extention of Golouma south. I asked if the Golouma would merge into one big deposit and was told there were 4 holes drilled between kerekounda and the main Golouma deposit that showed good grades, but he couldn’t say if they were connected or if there is another deposit in between the two.

Kerekounda continues to show excellent grades and is wide open to depth and to the south where they have seen visible gold in trenches. Drilling continues to expand this exciting new deposit.

Kobokoto is a priority target with high grade veining. Could this be the next Kerekounda? Other priority targets are Kimemba and Mamakono. With Sabodala North looking very good, it lies North of the Maki Medina deposit (possible connection)? With Maki getting better to the North. This whole area could be connected since it is on trend with Niakifiri and Masato.

The basic overview of the whole property is that the roughly NE SW structures are cross cut by other structures some mineralized and some not giving an overall NE SW tend to the gold. Some are large lower grade deposits such as Masato and some are very high grade like Kerekounda. The geology is complex and the ground is covered with thick laterite in some areas, this cover could be obscuring even bigger finds yet to come.

The Pre Feasibility is well under way and is on target for next month. The detailed work Oromin and SRK have done should translate to a majority of the ounces in the first resource calculation being upgraded. The resource calculations will be upgraded in Q1 and include increased resource ounces as well as a reserve update.

MDL is now a producing mine with the mill blending oxides with sulphides to get a better (higher percentage of gold) recovery per ton. The oromin sulphide recovery is 88-93% with oxides around 95%. With MDL quickly using up the oxide component of their deposit they may go looking for other sorurces of oxides, Oromin has a comparitively large oxide component very near by at Masato.

Santa Rosa is very near to drilling as you can see form the photo. The rig is 90% assembled and final testing will happen in a day or so and we should spud soon after that. The target is shallow ~1300 m so drilling should only take about 10 days to total depth. If we hit on the first hole development of the field will be fast since pipelines run at the boundary of the property. When the size of the discovery is known the oil will be spun out as a dividend at a yet-to-be determined ratio.

I hope this gives those of you who couldn’t make it a good idea of what happened at the meeting. The feeling in the room was that we are on the eve of a lot of excitement in the weeks and months to come and I can attest that I am getting pretty excited too!

Argentina – Santa Rosa License 
Preparations  continue  at  well  site.  The  Operator,  Oromin,  advised  that  final 
governmental  approvals  for  drilling  are  now  underway  so  that  the  mobilization  of 
the  San  Antonio  P1  drilling  rig  can  commence  this  week.  Spudding  of  the  first 
exploration well is expected to occur in July 2009.
