This is the reason that I am able to get excited about Ghostbusters 3 (coming into formation over 20

This is the reason that I am able to get excited about Ghostbusters 3 (coming into formation over 20 years after Ghostbusters 2) while I screamed bloody murder over Indiana Jones 4. Bill Murray has NOW stated, after previously signing on to the project, that he will only join if the script is good. Murray recently did a red carpet interview with Absoluteradio.co.uk stating,

I’ll believe it when I see it…I don’t want to do it yet. There’s still no script. It’s just a bunch of talk…it’s just a wish list…Until there’s a really great script…I’ll stay home.

This is exciting news, and it says multiple things. First and foremost, Murray doesn’t need, or want, either the money or the fame of this vehicle. Especially at this point in his career. So, he’s not clamoring to get this thing greenlit. He seems a little weary of the entire project as a whole, which I think is great, because every cult franchise that gets rebooted after years of nonexistence will only work if treated extremely carefully and with GENEROUS respect to the core material. It can’t merely be a money-making venture by the creators at a lull in their careers. Murray says it himself here, he has done two sequels in his entire life, Garfield and Ghostbusters; and he obviously wasn’t excited about either.

Then there is the number one question one should ask regarding a franchise reboot; does the original story actually require another chapter? Are there really any other facets to explore with Ghostbusters 3? Honestly, I think that there could be, but they have to be perfectly executed. Murray clearly has reservations, and wisely so. As he stated, “We’ve made a second one…it was okay, but it wasn’t as good as the first one. You gotta pay really tough attention to it, you gotta be really fierce abou it.” This is a franchise that is UBER-revered by fanboys by and large. Slacking on the script treatment and the project as a whole will only produce a monumental failure. On the reverse, attempting to create a monolithic CGI-Monster a la Lucas, will have the same effect, a craptacular finished product. Murray seems to understand this and sees that the reprecussions of taking on a half-assed threequel will ruin a franchise that has a massive fan base. I truly respect the man for not wanting to let anyone down and for wanting to preserve his posterity in the twilight of his career. All this just to say that I now have renewed faith in the creation of a third film. If Murray deems the script worthy, while clearly not needing or wanting it, then I’m sure it will at least be up to snuff. GEEKTYRANT link below!!!!!!!!!

An article from an Irish film and cinema paper.
Shia talks about his troubles with the law, of course.

PAUL BYRNE: With every glittering career comes the danger of being blinded by the light — there was a period where it looked like the LAPD might give you your own cell…

SHIA LABEOUF: That would have been handy, yeah — I could have had a change of clothes there, some sounds, some books. Look, I don’t think I was in any more trouble than a lot of young men get into. I got a little silly here and there, but it’s just growing pains. I didn’t rob a bank, I didn’t set out to kidnap an heiress, or invade a small country…

All that comes later, when your career is really on the skids…

Yeah. For now, I think the media made mountains out of molehills because that’s how you sell papers. You’re talking about refusing to leave a store, about smoking where I shouldn’t have smoked, about being in a collision where it was the other person’s fault for running a red light. Don’t think I’m on any FBI list just yet.

He also speaks of his mentors, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Buying his own house, being a spoiled Hollywood Brat and again – Riding Unicorns.

You directed rapper Chris ‘Cage’ Palko’s I Never Knew You video. You said of the experience: “This shit is better than riding unicorns” — how do you know?

Because I’ve ridden unicorns, of course. Everyone in Hollywood has unicorns, but we keep them away from the rest of the world, as they’re only for very, very special people. Like me. And Avril Lavigne.

Seriously though, getting to direct is a thrill, but getting to direct a video by one of my favourite musicians out there, that’s something else entirely. My life is full of wonderful thrills, of course, but that one is particularly special to me.

Grab your tickets to Milwaukee! Two of Harley-Davidson Softwail motorcycles that Shia’s butt rested on will be on display opening on Friday, April 3, 2009. Visitors will be able to sit in the one used for all of the stunts and have a photo taken. How much you want to bet that Shia’s butt didn’t touch that one – but you can tell everyone you sat on the same Harley that Shia sat on and no one will know the difference!

Little Tidbit:

For the movie, Harley-Davidson supplied five motorcycles that were customized by Justin Kell, a builder based in Los Angeles, to fit the 1950s setting of the movie.

Two bikes were returned to Harley: one that was ridden by LaBeouf and Ford, and another that was used for the scene’s stunts. Both will be on display.

Este honor se suma a la inmensa lista de premios que ha recolectado John Williams por años. Los gustos de los fans pueden variar, pero todos estarán de acuerdo en que la buena música del Señor Williams jamás perderá su estilo.

However, yesterday Lucasarts released a promo for the new Indiana Jones & The Staff of Kings. Not a Crystal Skull game, so no Mutt in sight. I’m terribly disappointed, as I was looking forward to seeing Mutt in video. Oh well… still looks like it could be a cool game, especially if they make the Wii remote act as a whip!

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” For you lot, Christmas and New Year offer a chance to eat lots, stock up on gadgets and DVDs for the next year, and generally hang out. For people who spend their time talking about anything in particular, it can be a bit of a pain. That’s because you, the public, expect/demand, an end-of-year review list rundown top 100 bonanza. But just to be a bit contrary, I won’t give you a simple run-through of the top films of the year. Instead, we’re on a trip back in time, to the land called 2008, to look at A YEAR IN FILM!!! This one, that hasn’t even finished yet…

(‘You need to call it. I can’t call it for you. It wouldn’t be fair.’ – Anton Chigurh)

JANUARY

So you all made it back safely to January. The fog of ‘Best of 2007′ lists has just broken, and the Oscars are on the horizon in the near-future, that is also the past. The best film from the 1st month, undoubtedly, was No Country for Old Men, the film that would go on to win at said past/future award ceremonies. It may have made lots of ‘Best of ‘07′ lists due to it coming out in America in November, but it was the ideal film to kick UK audiences into action after their festive slumber. After a slow start, the Coens power through the gears as Javier Bardem relentlessly pursues Josh Brolin’s Vietnam vet armed with a stun gun and enough crazy to fill a bathtub. Intense, hugely entertaining, and a worthy Oscar winner.

(‘I’m already pregnant, what other shenanigans could I get into?’ – Juno MacGuff)

FEBRUARY

This February we all celebrated at being ‘up a day’ thanks to the leap year, the Writer’s Strike came to an end, and America started the process of trying to begin to work out who could maybe be President. There’s only two parties, shouldn’t take that long. Anyway, in the world of film your big options were Daniel-Day-Lewis in Daniel-Day-Lewis’ There Will Be Blood, starring Daniel-Day-Lewis, or Ellen Page and Michael Cera in Juno. One man’s struggle with the soil, a priest, and himself, or a quirky dram-edy about teenage pregnancy. ACTING!!!!, or acting. I vote Juno. Take that, Day-Lewis.

(‘Cool line, usually I can’t think of those things until later’ – Horton)

MARCH

One of the benefits of doing your ‘Top Blank of Blank’ list this way is it becomes more than a mere list. It becomes a commentary on the year. And, in that spirit, March was a bit shit, to be honest. Your options were breakneck terror farce Vantage Point, the year’s second worst spoof movie Meet the Spartans, potentially scary but unseen-by-many-including-me Spanish horror The Orphanage, or the eventual top dog Dr Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who! It’s not a bad film by any means, in fact it’s fairly entertaining and visually very impressive. But it isn’t exactly in the league of some of the stuff that gets bumped later on…

(‘You think my uncle died for fun? Egotistical prick.’ – Marjane Satrappi)

APRIL

So after March’s limp offering, April powers into view packing some cinematic heat. The two best films of April had a bit in common, as they both dealt with ‘the kids’. In the colourful corner, Son of Rambow, Garth Jenning’s tale of a little boy with mad religious parents who gets involved with the school nutcase. And in the monochromatic corner, Persepolis, the Franco-Iranian animation about a little girl with mad religious government. It’s a close one, but Persepolis wins out thanks to its sheer unique-and-odd-ness.

(‘”Iron Man.” That’s kind of catchy. It’s got a nice ring to it.’ – Tony Stark)

MAY

Apparently May means summer to those in ‘the biz’, and so it was that we were festooned with blockbusters from the start of Month 5. Of May’s crop some were a let-down (Indy, I’m looking in your direction), some invited us to look into a terrifying vision of the near future where cinemas were over-run by mad middle-aged women (Sex and The City, the second biggest ‘bird’s film’ of the year), and some went into the dictionary as examples of the technical term ‘clusterf**k’ (Here comes, here comes Speed Racer…and there he goes again). Iron Man, though, was a great slice of Hollywood blockbuster fun – in hindsight it was a bit heavy on the origin stuff, but Robert Downey Jr is great as Tony Stark in the lighter half of the summer’s rich-man-as-hero double bill.

(‘We kill one, and maybe save a thousand.’ – Fox)

JUNE

June was very much the eye of the storm in terms of films – that’s to say there was big stuff at either side but not much going on in the middle. Another Narnia flick? If I wanted talking animals I’d go back to March, this is June, up your game. A film about killer wind? The Happening was nonsense from start to finish, Mark Wahlberg can’t act, and for M Night Shyamalan to come back from this would require a suitably Shyamalinian twist, and those only happen in his films that no-one likes. So June is represented by Wanted, Timur Bekmambetov’s batshit-insane comic shoot-em-up that made no sense at all, but did have Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and exploding rats. Sometimes that’s all it takes to come first…

(‘Ta-dah!’ – Wall-E)

JULY

So to the biggie. July saw Hollywood bring its A-game, and with some excellent consequences. First though, a word for Mamma Mia! It’s now the highest-grossing film of all time in the UK, which is a worrying thought. Moving on… July turned into a head-to-head between some film about a guy dressed as a bat, and some film about a robot with a toy whisk. The Dark Knight had big hype, big names, big effects, big acting, big explosions, and a big running time. Other end-of-year polls will say it was #1. But this is a run-down of the year, and there was another film out in July that was just better. Wall-E. One of the greatest films you’ll EVER see, marrying unbelievable animation with brilliant slapstick action, innovative sound design with a rip-roaring plot, and throwing in some incredibly well-rounded yet fantastical robot characters - Pixar once again smashed the opposition clean into the ground. Even when the opposition was a certain Knight that the rest of the internet wouldn’t stop banging on about…

(‘It’s impossible, that’s sure. So let’s start working.’ – Phillipe Petit)

AUGUST

By August the dust had settled on blockbuster season and everyone was safely hunkered down for the Autumn release schedules. However, having spent all its cinema money in the previous 3 months, The Moviebarn didn’t actually see much. The Wackness wasn’t great, news reached that Step Brothers was OK, so the ‘Barn, for one month only, cedes to the opinion of assorted film critics and crowns Man on Wire, the documentary about a mad Frenchman high-wiring between the Twin Towers, as the film of August. Now it just has to see it…

(‘Everybody knows you never go full retard.’ – Kirk Lazarus)

SEPTEMBER

The films of September were an odd bunch, and all a bit farcical in their own way. Taken was a madcap, slightly xenophobic, and fairly bloodthirsty romp where Liam Neeson bombed around Paris shooting EVERYONE. RocknRolla saw a lot of non-Cockneys affecting piss-poor ‘cockles and pears’-type accents. Righteous Kill was an exercise in how to use two great actors and still turn out the cinematic equivalent of a limp fart. Tropic Thunder was more of an intentional farce, and featured Mr Downey Jr. again, playing a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude. Hit-and-miss, yes, but when it hit, it hit. Remember kids, never go full retard.

(‘Appearances can be… deceptive.’ – Chad Feldhelmer)

OCTOBER

Seems like it’s about time for more mega-bucks Hollywood action. Quantum of Solace kept to the concept of ‘New Bond’, which means grit, realism, blondeness and lots of fighting. High School Musical 3 did not, as predicted, eschew the format of 1 and 2 and turn into a jazz-based avant garde ‘dance experiment’. Gomorrah underwhelmed, largely due to a hefty run-time and its relentlessly bleak nature. Burn After Reading, though. Coming so soon after No Country, but so so different, it’s equal parts screwball comedy and revenge thriller. It’s got more stars than an astronomy book, and some pretty gnarly violence as well. Those Coen brothers might have a future, y’know…

NOVEMBER

Y’know that election I mentioned near the start? They only just picked the winner down here. That’s a whole web page that took. They picked the nice guy. To celebrate, Oliver Stone made some Hollywood actors do some guff impressions of member’s of George W’s cabinet. Poor, poor film. Waltz With Bashir got the critics going with its mixture of real horror and animated visuals, and I’ll give them this one, in another lean month at the cinema.

(‘Good landing, boys! Who says a penguin can’t fly?’ – A Penguin)

DECEMBER

We’re here, at the end of our trip. Keep your hands inside the ride, though, still one last thing to do. Boxing Day. Big films for a big day, that’s always been the plan, and they don’t come much bigger than Baz Luhrmann’s Australia. Epic, vast, very very long, it’s going to be the film that you’ll see if someone says ‘oh I fancy a film today, THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS’. If 3 hours of Aussie history doesn’t sound great, there’s always Madagascar 2. Cartoon lions, Sacha Baron Cohen, and liking to move it, move it. That’s what brings down the curtain on ‘08. Sometimes film moves in mysterious ways…

Multi vor spune ca a trecut vremea lui Indiana Jones insa lucrurile nu sunt chiar asa tinand cont de “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”

Cine stie, poate vom vedea si Indiana Jones 5.

I remember when South Park first hit the boob tube, I was 15 years old and at a friend’s birthday party in high school when I saw my very first episode of South Park. Canadians Terrence and Philip were causing a stir with the South Park parents and feces was everywhere.

[If you hear voices, scroll down and press pause. The videos on this page start automatically. You're not crazy.]

Rendition of Myself as a South Park Character.

Now I am 26 years old and years after losing interest in South Park it has reclaimed its place as one of my favorite shows. South Park and its characters are still stirring the waters of controversy, but it is also provoking international laughter.

The Bait

I switched back on to South Park via my Laptop when my husband told me to look up the “China Probrem” episode where Indiana Jones is sexually assaulted by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. The episode is not fully watchable due to “pre-existing contractual obligations” until November 8th, 2008. I guess I’ll have to hold my breathe until then.

From the clips that I was able to watch on the internet, I think George Lucas and Steven Spielberg got the harsh finger of shame that they deserved, especially after all the atrocities the movie commits against Peruvian culture and history.

Really, is Steven Spielberg so dense in the head not to realize that filming at Yale was not very P.C. (politically correct) considering Yale refuses to return stolen artifacts from Machu Picchu?

The Hook

South Park Studios is the show’s website where you can watch full episodes or scenes from past episodes and trailers for upcoming episodes if your cable or satellite provider do not supply your tube with the most recent season of South Park or if you just want to recap on a good laugh.

It only took me one scene from Pandemic to be hooked again. The boys: Stan, Eric, Kenny and Kyle con a schoolmate into giving up his $100 birthday money so they can start a Peruvian Flute Band. Peruvian flute bands are everywhere and as Stan mentions to their swindled little friend, Craig, Peruvian flute bands “Make bank” in only 2 hours.

The Details

Fortunately, the two South Park episodes of Pandemic did not resort to insulting Peruvians or Peruvian culture . I don’t think it’s coincidental that the South Park creators decided to do an episode of Peru following their Indiana Jones episode.

There were very few inaccuracies that only a Peruvian or a resident or frequent visitor of Peru would pick up on. The architecture of the temple that the boys stumble upon isn’t quite “Incan” so to say, but at least it’s not an Aztec temple smack dab in the middle of the Peruvian Amazon.

They did make a mistake by including an Aztec warrior figure in the mural of the temple, but it’s a forgivable offense, the Tumi figurehead that the boys walk through isn’t an Incan symbol, the Incas aren’t ancient, they ruled from 1438 – 1533 A.D., and of course there is no huge golden statue of an Incan warrior in the sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

If there had been such a statue then Hiram Bingham would have stolen it and Yale would still be telling Peru “Hells to the No” on returning their priceless cultural patrimony.

The Revenge

Finally, I think what they really get at and maybe this is something that the general U.S. population doesn’t quite pick up on is that the Cuyes (Guinea Pigs) get their moment of revenge.

Cuy (pronounced “Koo-ee“) is the chicken of the Andes. They are in fact a dish of the Incas and indigenous to Peru. Cuy is also eaten in Ecuador and Bolivia and no wedding reception or guest of honor misses a hot plate of roasted Cuy.

I’ve never tasted Cuy and just seeing the carcass of a Cuy in the freezer is enough to gross me out. I pick on my little sister-in-law for “playing with her food” before eating it. You will not see Guinea pigs in Peru as little Pedro or little Maria’s house pet…They EAT Cuy for lunch.

So, as I said, South Park gives the Cuy their long deserved revenge as they snack on people and destroy civilization as the fictuous characters know it. The chullo has been placed on the other head.

The Story …

To sum up the two episodes of “Pandemic“ I’ll let Craig & the Homeland Security Dude tell the story…

Response to footage of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, the new film from cult director David Fi

Response to footage of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, the new film from cult director David Fincher (Zodiac), has been rather lukewarm so far but I must say this trailer looks amazing, just like the first one. Naturally, this new trailer gives us more insight into the movie’s plot and it seems fascinating, while reminding me a bit of last year’s Youth Without Youth, the overlooked comeback of legendary director Francis Ford Coppola (The Rainmaker).

Written by Eric Roth (Lucky You) and Robin Swicord (The Jane Austen Book Club), based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby), The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button tells the story of a man who’s born with the body of an old man and who grows younger as he ages. It stars Brad Pitt (Burn After Reading), Cate Blanchett (Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull), Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading), Elle Fanning (Reservation Road, also Charlotte’s Web actress Dakota’s younger sister), Elias Koteas (Shooter), Jason Flemyng (Mirrors) and Julia Ormond (Kit Kittredge: An American Girl) among others.

In any case, this promises another brilliant performance for Pitt. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button will premiere around Christmas in the US and Australia and in most other countries in January & February 2009. But to me the real question is, what’s with all the Brad Pitt & Cate Blanchett pairings recently? First they were supposed to co-star in The Fountain, then they were together in Babel and now this…WTF?
