This personality type is known as the Helper. They are motivated by the need to be loved, valued and

This personality type is known as the Helper. They are motivated by the need to be loved, valued and to express their positive feelings toward others. Now this is more acceptable if you’re a woman, but for male twos in our society…well, they need to be a tad careful so their intent is not misconstrued.

Twos are loving, caring, adaptable, insightful, generous, enthusiastic and tuned into how people feel. They’re great to have in a group because they make sure that everyone is okay and that no-one is feeling left out. They make their partners feel really special by being very attentive and appreciative towards them. Twos are playful, nurturing and fun! They make great ambassadors because they’re so tactful and sensitive and are great with kids.

There is another side to the twos and at their worst they are martyrs, manipulative, possessive, hysterical, and over-accommodating. They can drive people crazy by being indecisive (in case someone else in the group doesn’t like their decision). On top of that, twos don’t know how to ask a direct question to find something out. Instead they dance around the subject with small talk hoping for a clue that will answer their unasked question.

When you have a problem – they’ll have a solution for you. Always! Even if you don’t want one! But twos are perceptive, sympathetic and nonjudgmental providing strong support for friends.

Being criticised is impossible to take because they need to know they are important or special to you. So if you’re going to be critical with a two please be very gentle. Tell them what they’re good at and that you appreciate them for it. They need lots of reassurance that you love them and you’re proud to be seen with them.

You may also notice that a two has trouble saying ‘no’. This leads to their martyr-type life and tiredness from doing too much. But they just don’t want to let people down and feel that since they’ve already set the precedent in their life of being the helper, always there when needed, that they just can’t bring themselves to say ‘no’ for fear of hurting the expectant person. Anything that looks like selfish behaviour is avoided at all costs. In the end, they become upset at not being able to follow their heart and do the things they want to do. They suppress their feelings and can’t understand why others aren’t tuned into them or understand.

Twos need to spend time alone to reconnect with who they are and what they want in life. Personal pamper days are just perfect!

New in stock at TBS is the Cyclone range of hot water cylinders, from Joule. They’re solidly built of stainless steel and butt-welded, which means you don’t get corrosion forming in crevices, which can be a problem with some other cylinders. So confident are Joule in the quality of these cylinders that they offer a 25 year limited guarantee on most of their range.

You can choose from direct and indirect models, depending on your requirements.

Direct cylinders use inbuilt immersion coils and are designed for low to medium domestic use. TBS stocks the 200 litre model but can order other sizes for you.

Indirect cylinders are linked via a heat exchanger to your gas or oil-fired boiler. They have one inbuilt electric element to give intermittent extra support. TBS stocks the 150 litre , 200 litre and 250 litre models.

Joule’s Cyclone range includes horizontal cylinders and calorifiers. There are larger, commercial or agricultural models available too. Our Sales team at TBS Daventry will be happy to advise you.

This may shed some light on the agenda that is undercurrent to the recent and pending reforms that are being implemented throughout the Australian Centrelink income support systems. This was also an assessment piece for the course “Social Justice, Welfare and the State”. There are very few people, within my immediate family and friends, that are interested in discussing these things (and that really is probably for the best, as it is a very depressing discourse, though please, do read on). I am posting material that I have already written to save myself the process of revising the research material that significantly altered my view of the political and economic structures around me. I have had to look long and hard at the light to counteract the impact of this discourse on my heart. This is what I had to say when in the cognitive depths of this course material…

Self-responsibility (responsibilisation) is an imperative aspect of the neoliberal free market philosophy of maximising national productivity and minimising state expenditure on the provision of welfare. Targeting individual market actors is a central focus, as dependent and passive recipients of welfare deduct from rather contribute to national productivity.

The transformation of welfare provision is a process entwined with economic globalisation, increasing pressures on domestic governments to reform and dissolve the welfare state (Mendes, 2008:62; Mendes, 1997:49). Responsibilisation incubates an individualistic culture of free market competition and an active society (Williams, 1996:249). National competiveness and productivity of the private sector depend on reducing the expense of the public sector (Mendes, 2001:29). The main mechanism of these policies is to increase the conditionality and contractual duties of welfare eligibility, which is a significant divergence from the citizenship entitlement paradigm (Moss, 2001:1-2; Mendes, 2008:58).

The responsibilisation ideology insists that individuals actively engage with the market, with no recognition of structural context or personal capacity (Moss, 2001:5). The Mutual Obligation scheme is one application of this policy agenda, with the forced contractual arrangement between welfare recipients and the State, with individuals actively committed to work obligations, rather than the passive receipt of primary welfare (Moss, 2001:3-9; Mendes, 2008:57). The increasing conditionality of welfare provision includes activity tests and punishment for breaches, as the mechanisms of forced responsibilisation, with the concurrent benefit of significant reductions in welfare expenses (Moss, 2001:9).

Responsibilisation discourse resonates with classic liberalism, particularly the controversial rhetoric of welfare assistance undermining the moral integrity of individuals as potential market actors (Mendes, 2008:55-59). The mutual obligation and activity test regimes do not facilitate specific skill development, with emphasis on socialising individuals into effective work behaviours (Moss, 2001:3). The validity of the contracts involved is contested, as individuals are coerced into signing, with the alternative of not receive primary welfare (Moss, 2001:4). This is proposed to be a disempowering process for individuals pitched against a forceful and coercive system.

One limitation of responsibilisation is the lack of recognition of structural factors such as geographical or resource limitations (Moss, 2001:5), while forcing all citizens into active engagement with the labour market.

Whether in personal life, at work or in a business setting, one cannot communicate unless one listen

Whether in personal life, at work or in a business setting, one cannot communicate unless one listens.

We think that listening is easy and that we do it everyday, indeed we do, but what is it that we register when we have a discussion with friends, partner, colleagues or potential clients ? Do we really understand what the person we have in front of us,on the phone or on a virtual conference is telling us?
There are many factors that can hinder active listening, these can be: a noisy surrounding, a bad telephone or virtual line, multi-tasking (some may agree and others disagree), the language barrier, our personal bias toward the discussion, our personal preference and many more, I am sure you can come up with other distracting factors.

The biggest mistake we do when we communicate with others is that because they speak the same language we assume will understand each other ! unfortunately it is not always the case as we can speak the same language but if we speak with someone who´s native tongue is not the one used we may lose a vital point and that may lead into miscommunication or even conflict.

When we say we can be biased by our personal preferences it can be true. Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and focused so much on what you wanted to say and wanted to sell that you completely lost the message of your counterpart? This can be fatal in business, indeed what we want to achieve in business is good relationships and a contract. How do you want to have a contract if your customer thinks and feels that you do not listen to him and thus do not understand his needs ?

This happens also in teams, because there are many members, one has to be able to listen and get what every member has to say and how they want to proceed. If one member feels left out, the worst case scenario would be that he isolates him/herself and may create group noise. Such a distraction could be fatal to the productivity of your team.

So how can we improve our listening skills ? how can we master the power of listening ?

First identify what your personal preferences are, if you like to talk a lot, work on developing your listening skills by reducing the amount of information you deliver, and open yourself to your counterpart. Ask questions that will help you understand his/ her needs better, practice active listening by reformulating what you have heard and making sure that you are on the same wave length.

Second, if you are speaking to a non native speaker, ask questions, reformulate your questions if you feel that you were not understood, repeat what you have heard, observe the body language (a smile may signal that you are on the right track). Indeed in certain cultures (mostly indirect cultures), half of the message will be transmitted through body language so it is important that you not only listen with your ears, but also with your eyes.

Lastly, you can practice at home with your partner or your friends, ask them for feedback, see if you have gotten their message, see if you understand what it is they want and if they have gotten their point across. This will enable you to be more in tune with your business partners (and team members) and make them feel understood and especially show them that you know what they need and can provide them with the product/ service that best suits them and their expectations.

Remember, compound lifts are fantastic for building power and explosiveness. They get you strong, build muscle (and help produce HGH and IGF-1 which help build even more muscle) and have carry over so they make you functionally fit. If you can squat, hinge (dead lift) press and pull, it will help if you have to move under weight. And you know I’m all about functional fitness and the ability to move when weighed down by a combat load.

If you are a serious data user, this little trick will save you hours of your life.

Sometimes we create long and complex formulas (like Multiple IFERRORS, or CHOOSE) when there is actually a simple answer – make the formula reference you are using dynamic so that it can refer to different worksheets or even different workbooks!

Easier said than done unfortunately.

Here are the basics around the different types of references that Excel makes

Notice the coloured text in the references above.

When referencing to another workbook, Excel places ‘ ‘ before and after then worksheet name. This is followed by an exclamation mark !

When referencing another workbook, the name of the workbook precedes the sheet reference, surrounded in square brackets [ ]. The apostrophes drop away but the exclamation mark still exists after the worksheet name.

(Note: If the workbook is closed, Excel also includes the entire path before the book name)

You can recreate these by using text functions in Excel. The following is important to remember however:

In this lesson we are going to make references to other worksheets
within the same workbook.

You should notice the following which is key in creating these formulas.

We are trying to perform a VLOOKUP to return the quantity of items for that product code. The lookup tables however are in each of the worksheets above and not 1 single table.

Let’s see how we can create a dynamic sheet reference that will change the lookup table us we copy the formula down.

Remember your rules above and start building the formula – the text in the formula below has been formatted to see exactly what is happening.

We have an apostrophe (which is needed to precede the worksheet name) in double quotations as it is text.

We join this with the &

We reference the cell which houses the WH number

We join this with the remaining apostrophe at the end of the worksheet name as well as the exclamation mark and the column references which don’t change as the table for each sheet is in these columns.

Highlight the entire 2nd argument and see what it evaluates to.

If you compare the above formula to our original, you can see it is exactly the same, except ours has double quotations at the beginning and end which shows it is text. Press enter and you will see Excel returns an error.

The problem is that Excel does not know that we want it to treat the text above as a cell reference!

So we use the INDIRECT function to help us out. The INDIRECT function “Returns the reference specified by a text string”. By wrapping the term 2nd argument of the VLOOKUP in an INDIRECT function we can change the text into a reference.

Press enter and your formula should be working perfectly! Copy it down and you will see it will lookup values in the different worksheets as the worksheet reference is dynamic.

Conclusion:

A significantly shorter formula to write out and much quicker too – if you understand how Excel references other worksheets and workbooks. Remember your rules around including text in a formula, using double quotes and the & symbol to join strings. Finally, the INDIRECT function is vital in changing the text that we create into a working reference that Excel can recognize.
