Motor Trend recently featured Buick on its cover. This is a big deal- it’s been, oh, nearly 28 years since a Buick graced the glossy front of the auto-enthusiast magazine.

Back in 1982, it was the Buick Century T-Type facing buyers on the newsstand. Today, it’s the “Infinity-fighter” Regal GS, the “Lexus-beater” LaCrosse CXS and the “Acura Killer” Regal Turbo. All under the headline, “The hot new Buicks that will truly tempt import buyers.“

Ahem. Not too shabby

The eight-pages devoted to Buicks goes through the usual specs and detailed analysis, and oh yeah, places the Buick LaCrosse CXS first over the Lexus ES 350 for sedans. The article cites Lexus as having been the Buick-line of Japan, but that those times of identity-theft seems to be changing, according to Motor Trend‘s Kim Reynolds.

“The spanking-new 2010 LaCrosse is intent on not only rehijacking it’s Buick-ness, but going even further. American Lexus, anyone?” Reynolds writes.

Angus Mackenzie, penning the piece on the Buick Regal wrote,

Our first impression is the new Regal has the meaty, planted feel of a European car, overlaid with just the right veneer of compliance needed to cope with the often frost-shattered roads of America’s snowbelt.

“The Regal will defy preconceived notions about driving a Buick,” says Buick_GMC general manager Brian Sweeney.

The good news is, he’s right.

Come on in and see what’s got Buick back on the cover of Motor Trend.
