Ford Company will equip his new model Ford Explorer 4×4, which will go into production in the U.S. next year, with a seat belt able to inflate like an airbag, improving the passengers safety in a collision.

On the car’s back seats, the regular seat belt, passing over the shoulder and chest, will be replaced by a cylindrical tube, inflatable, which can be inflated in just 40 milliseconds and disperses the impact shock on an area five times greater than a regular safety belt.

Specialists say that this device will reduce the risk of fracturing the ribs, some internal injuries and contusions of the children (they are very vulnerable in case of a collision), being useful also to the elders, with a more fragile skeleton.

They say that variety is the spice of life…if that’s the case then my life has been extra spicy lately!  I feel so blessed to be the event planner of such a wide variety of events–from weddings, to political events, to non-profit Galas, and yes, even to a Rainbow Magic Fairy birthday party for sweet little Hope.  Nov. 14th was the perfect day for her outdoor party and it was pleasure for me to help her celebrate her 8th birthday!  Enjoy the photos courtesy of my assistant for the day, Kamil Ross:

The party favor table in the entry hall.  These cute little goody bags were filled with magical fairy and rainbow themed items.  Many I selected from Oriental Trading–a great place for party favor items!

Hope’s mom (Carol) had this banner printed up and I tied some balloons on either side.  This is in their living room and we had Hope sit in a chair here, in front of the banner, to open all of her cute gifts while her guests chowed down on cake and ice cream.

This was the amazing inflatable I rented: part bounce house, part rock climbing wall and part giant slide–how can that NOT be fun?!?  Side note: It is really BIG so make sure you have a really large back yard or plenty of room at your function!

I rented 3, 8 ft. long banquet tables and white plastic “wedding” chairs for the seating.  We set the tables in a “U” shape–we had a lime green table, hot pink table and bright blue table.  The fourth “party color” table cloth (purple) was used on the food table which was set up closer to the house on the patio.  This photo also shows the helium balloons in those 4 colors–we tied one to each chair except for the B-day girl’s chair and she got all 4 colors of balloons tied to her chair!

Each girl received a T-shirt (all 4 colors seen here) and fabric markers to decorate their shirt.  The color of their shirt also put them in their team for the scavenger hunt that took place after lunch!

These may not be to everyone’s taste, but these new lights by designer TOBYhouse sure are a playful twist on inflatable toys. The handmade lights are made using real beach balls and inflatable bananas, using a technique which hardens them so that they can be used as functional lights. These super surreal lights are available from mydeco’s design boutique along with hundreds of fantasic treasures!

Near Oji Metro Station.

After all the fuss and furore surrounding Darren Bent’s the beachball’s winner against Liverpool, it was inevitable that this would be the theme in this week’s Guardian Photoshop comp. As we all know, it shouldn’t have been given, which makes it all the more funnier that it was! Lots of different things you could do – I went for a slightly leftfield entry as you can see below.

Seeing as there's seemingly no problem with inflatables being on the pitch, Rafa's taken the opportunity to increase the much maligned squad depth at Liverpool with a few bargain signings.

Heute möchte ich euch von einem Projekt berichten,  das mich sehr fasziniert hat. Es ist zwar schon ein wenig älter, aber ich bin ja noch nicht lange bei Expoware und dieses Projekt ist es wert, darüber zu schreiben!

Dieses Projekt wurde von einer kreativen Gruppe Berliner Designer in die Welt gerufen und Expoware hat mit viel Freunde daran teilgenommen. Der Berlin Design Dom wurde erfolgreich auf der Designmesse Salone del Mobile in Mailand präsentiert.

Damit ihr wisst wovon ich spreche, habe ich euch ein Video reingestellt, was ich persönlich super finde! Schaut einfach mal selbst…

We created this cake for a brother and sister’s birthday party.  The sister turned 19 and the little brother was turning 4.  Since their birthdays are so close together they decided to have one big party.  Primary colors were used to decorate.  The little boy wanted a spiderman cake and the sister was having an inflatable slide for her friends, so we incorporated both into one cake.  The cake was white with a fresh raspberry filling and it was iced with vanilla buttercream.

Chill out zones are enjoying something of a revival at the moment, along with all architectural things one vaguely associates with the 1960’s. so it comes as no surprise to find the sixth “luminarium” by the outfit collectively know as Architects of Air at the very heart of the Edinburgh Festival. This latest inflatable structure – 128ft long by 107ft wide, rising to 26ft at its highest point, its glowing interior colours generated by nothing more complicated than daylight. Off course inflatable structures can be incredibly useful in disaster situations, and any time when someone needs shelter that can be erected in a matter of minutes. Most are made of high-strength textiles that can withstand a variety of outdoor weather conditions. And of course the playful appeal of inflatable structures can’t be denied.

American artist Michael Rakowitz’s paraSITE project proposed to take advantage of the exterior ventilation systems on existing architecture to give the homeless a temporary shelter. The deflated structure have handles to be easily transported or can be carried on one’s back. Once he has found the outtake ducts of a building’s HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) system, the user attach the intake tube of the structure to the vent. The warm air leaving the building inflates and heats the membrane structure.

DH and I recently decided to dress up with our kids this Halloween.  We thought it would be cute … you have NO idea how wrong we were.  We began our search on the internet, typing in keywords like ‘couples’ and ‘costume’. 

What we want to know is when Fredrick’s of Hollywood began being the inspiration for pretty much every women’s adult costume.  I found it rather sad.  Now, I know that Halloween is all about dressing up and make believe, but when did the costume makers decide that every woman really wants to wear a costume made of a Kleenex and some scotch tape?  Now to be fair, there WERE some costumes that would be the equivalent of a tarp and scotch tape. 

So, I can either wear next to nothing  OR I can roam around all evening wearing a fabric Winnebago.

My quest for the perfect costumes have yielded some pretty interesting costumes ….  Among my favorites:

The 70’s style plastic costumes for The Village People and Chachi…. Yeah… Chachi.  Now, as much as I appreciate the humor in these costumes, I fear the humor would be lost on those born after 1985.

Now the next submission is one of those inflatable ones. Please be forwarded, it is in rather poor taste – while being hilarious. The only two immediate draw backs are 1) there is not a similarly themed costume for me 2) DH couldn’t pull of the heels.

And finally, for those that are into the latest and greatest of the 15 minutes of fame seekers we have – The Gosselin’s. The costume consists of pretty much and shirt with ‘Ed Hardy’ plastered across it, flip-flops and the Kate Gosselin wig. Impressive.
