New reports from Iowa and North Carolina are raising concerns that the deadly H1N1 swine flu mutations that have been confirmed by the WHO in Ukraine, Norway and elsewhere have already reached the United States.  In Iowa, a report that doctors are seeing “very heavy, wet hemorrhagic lungs, lungs with a lot of blood in them” in H1N1 patients is creating concerns among health experts that the deadly Ukraine H1N1 has already spread there. 

In addition, a report of Tamiflu-resistant H1N1 swine flu in North Carolina is raising questions about the ability of medical authorities to combat H1N1 if thousands of people do start dying.  If deadly H1N1 swine flu mutations have already reached the United States, what does that mean?  Doctors in Ukraine have been reporting that victims of H1N1 there are experiencing violent hemorrhaging in their lungs. As the patients near death, their lungs reportedly become as “black as charcoal” and literally begin to disintegrate.  Will this start happening soon inside the U.S.?

The news report causing the most concern today is the one about H1N1 patients in Iowa.  Commenting on a dramatic spike in H1N1 deaths in Iowa, Dr. Gregory Schmunk told KCCI news that what doctors there are seeing ”is very heavy, wet hemorrhagic lungs, lungs with a lot of blood in them.”

Hemorrhagic lungs that are filled with blood?

That sounds precisely like what is taking place in Ukraine.

Last week, the WHO confirmed that an H1N1 mutation had been discovered in Ukraine. This H1N1 mutation involved a receptor binding domain change, and it is apparently causing the H1N1 virus to become much more virulent.

Just like the new report in Iowa, many victims of H1N1 in Ukraine have been experiencing violent hemorrhaging in the lungs.  Temperatures inside the lungs of patients in Ukraine have been reported to be as high as 135 degrees Fahrenheit.  As the patient near death, the lungs turn to mush and literally become as black as charcoal.

In fact, one doctor in Western Ukraine was quoted as saying the following about what is happening to the lungs of these patients…..

“We have carried out post mortems on two victims and found their lungs are as black as charcoal. They look like they have been burned. It’s terrifying.”

If that wasn’t bad enough, the WHO has now confirmed that the same H1N1 mutation has shown up in Norway.

Norway’s Institute of Public Health has released a statement in which they announced that this mutation “could possibly…cause more severe disease” because it apparently infects tissue deeper in the airway than usual.

Not only that, but today Hong Kong’s Department of Health has confirmed that it has found the same mutation in a H1N1 flu virus sample as the one detected in Norway recently.

Hong Kong is on the other side of the world from Ukraine and Norway. 

What in the world is going on?

Nobody knows for sure, but the truth is that the increasing similarities between the current H1N1 outbreak and the 1918 “Spanish flu” outbreak are becoming too striking to ignore.

Firstly, both the current outbreak and the 1918 Spanish flu are from the H1N1 family.

Secondly, both the current outbreak and the 1918 Spanish flu have the same mutation that is currently being reported in Ukraine, Norway and Hong Kong.

Thirdly, the hemorrhagic deaths that victims are experiencing in Ukraine closely mirror the kind of deaths experienced by victims of the 1918 Spanish flu.  Just consider the following description of 1918 Spanish flu deaths from Wikipedia…..

“One of the most striking of the complications was hemorrhage from mucous membranes, especially from the nose, stomach, and intestine. Bleeding from the ears and petechial hemorrhages in the skin also occurred.”  The majority of deaths were from bacterial pneumonia, a secondary infection caused by influenza, but the virus also killed people directly, causing massive hemorrhages and edema in the lung.”

You would think this stunning information would be so important that the mainstream media would be all over it, but sadly that is not the case.  Instead they seem intent on covering the opening of the “New Moon” movie and whatever Barack Obama had for breakfast this morning.

But not only is the mutation discussed above a tremendous concern, but now there are confirmed reports that Tamiflu-resistant H1N1 is spreading.

Recently a Tamiflu-resistant strain of the H1N1 swine flu was reported to have been discovered in Wales, and now a Tamiflu-resistant cluster of the H1N1 swine flu has been reported in North Carolina.

However, medical authorities don’t seem overly concerned.  Dr. Alicia Frye, epidemiologist in the CDC’s flu division, said in a prepared statement that “at this time we don’t have any information that should raise concerns for the general population.”

If the best drugs medical authorities have will soon not work against H1N1, perhaps the public should be concerned.

Meanwhile the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention has announced that swine flu deaths in Europe are doubling every two weeks.

All of this is happening at a time when environmental extremists are pushing the “overpopulation” myth harder than ever.  In fact, the United Nations Population Fund has just released its annual State of the World Population Report in which it openly calls for reducing world population growth as a way to combat climate change.  The reality is that if a deadly H1N1 mutation did kill tens of millions, many very sick environmental extremists would actually applaud.  Increasingly, many in the environmental community are viewing humanity itself as a “disease” that needs to be eradicated for the good of the earth.

Talk about a dangerous belief system.

UK astrophysicist Piers Corbyn, of the long range solar forecast group Weather Action, declared that the ClimateGate revelations have rendered man-made global warming fears “false.”

“The case is blown to smithereens and this whole theory should be destroyed and discarded and Copenhagen conference should be closed,” Corbyn said in a contentious on air television exchange with an environmental activist with Russia’s WWF. The live TV debate with Corbyn appeared on Moscow’s RT TV on November 25, 2009. The RT TV’s segment was titled “Heating Cheating.” See Full Video of Debate here.

“The world is cooling and has been cooling for 7 years and the leading scientists, so-called ’scientists’ have been trying to hide that evidence,” Corbyn said in reference to hacked emails showing top UN IPCC scientists apparently conspiring to manipulate temperature data and exclude scientific studies from peer-review that they did not agree with.

“We should end this anti-scientific nonsense now,” Corbyn said.

“The data, real data, over the last one thousand, ten thousand or million years, shows there is no relationship between carbon dioxide and world temperatures or climate extremes. Now we can see that actually the people in charge of data have been fiddling it, and they have been hiding the real decline in world temperatures in an attempt to keep their so called moral high ground,” Corbyn told host Bill Dod and Aleksey Kokorin, the Climate Program Coordinator for WWF in Russia.

The upcoming UN global warming summit in Copenhagen is a “complete waste of time,” according to Corbyn.

‘A scandal’

“The Copenhagen jamboree is a scandal and it must be stopped,” he added.

“There is a gigantic bandwagon run by governments who want to control world energy supplies and hold back development in the third world. This thing they are doing now is just the same as they are doing in the banking crisis, it is creating a whole bubble of false values,” Corbyn explained.

Corbyn said the ClimateGate revelations further revealed that man-made climate fears are not scientifically valid.

“Their claims are false, I repeat, they are false, and this theory they’ve got is like the titanic and it will crash. I would suggest that honest green campaigners who want to preserve biodiversity should get off this [man-made global warming] bandwagon before it sinks,” Corbyn explained.

“Carbon dioxide levels are driven by temps, not the other way around. There have been big peaks in CO2 in past…carbon dioxide is actually a good thing for the world,” Corbyn explained. “More CO2 makes plants and animals more efficient,” he added.

In the last few weeks, the mainstream media has really started to jump on the alternative media’s bandwagon. They’ve highlighted wasted government investments in pandemic planning, mass vaccinations and even questioned a flu hype that never materialized. Something is going on, and it likely has to do with a strategy for what is coming in the next few weeks or months.

We’re hearing it every day now. Major media outlets are starting to say things like “a wasted investment on vaccines”, or “a pandemic that was a dud”. I have a strong suspicion that the media is now starting to play on both sides of the fence. Why? Because they want to reestablish confidence in a growing skeptical public who has embraced alternative sources.

Most people are not aware of what is going in the Ukraine and Eastern Europe. An engineered or mutated virus has been growing in strength, infecting millions of people and likely killing thousands. However, the public has been left in the dark because the World Health Organization (WHO) has been telling a different story and downplaying fatalities and giving contradictory evidence.

The fatality rate of the virus in the Ukraine has been estimated by infectious disease experts to be between 0.5% to 0.7% and possibly growing. That means there could be well over 10,000 deaths right now in the Ukraine and they’re refusing to disclose these numbers to the rest of the world. They’ve barely disclosed even 400 deaths.

So the media’s strategy right now is to play both sides until they decide it’s time for the public to hear the actual numbers. Keep in mind that major media outlets revolve all their programming around a select few decision makers, people at the very top who know exactly what is going on in real-time.

More and more people are becoming conscious to the reality that the H1N1 swine flu has been nothing more than a mild flu across the world. It has “so far” caused a lower mortality rate than even the seasonal flu. So the media must now cater to this mindset until the real pandemic begins. Then they will change their tune and announce that public health officials were right all along. What will happen when the mutated virus reaches other parts of the world? Panic! 

Since the virus is engineered, the mutated virus may very well have H1N1 components in it, or it may be an entirely new strain. Nobody really knows since all the WHO advisers know how to do is mislead the world.

They will likely begin publicizing more deaths when the virus hits North America and starts infecting thousands at a time. At that point, they’ll suddenly state that the number of deaths in Europe are skyrocketing, which will not be the case. The situation will have been contained and the deaths will have already happened, but they will have held back on the public announcements to further strategize, create panic, and sell more vaccines and antivirals, among other motives.

The problem is, vaccines will not be functional for the new mutated virus and it will be too late to create another. Will they then try and convince nations that current vaccine stockpiles are effective against this new mutated virus? That would be a new low for the media, but hopefully any persuasion of this type will not be accepted by the public.

It will likely begin with headlines such as “surge of deaths now 100 per day” and they will escalate the tone to create more fear and panic as the weeks pass. We’ve already started to see this happening.

The media will then put public health experts on a pedestal while worshiping their foresight and knowledge on pandemic planning and preparedness, when in reality it was all orchestrated from the beginning.

Aside from all the media hype, the pandemic is not overblown or a dud.
It is real. The first phase of their operation was to release a weak form of the virus and play mind games to see how far they could push nations into mass vaccination programs. The second phase was to release a more lethal form of the virus to create panic and justify the first phase regardless of vaccine compliance. The last phase will mean millions of deaths around the world with varying degrees of martial law, more control and further conditioning to complement the first two phases.

Vaccines will not save people from what is coming. The manufacturers have actually designed them to further suppress what little immunity is left in people to fight the lethal virus. This is very obvious from the vaccine ingredients.

They don’t want us to be prepared and they don’t want us to have the facts, because they know that the strongest and most informed will outlast anything they can throw at us. It’s a chess game, and the public will need to make their move very soon.

I’ve often wondered about the status of the promised investigation of it… there is no status because there never was an investigation… just an announcement to cover Rumsfeld.

In a nutshell, Donald Rumsfeld (then Secretary of Defense) announces that the Pentagon (whose ?accounting? offices were destroyed the next day) could not account for $2.3 TRILLION – purportedly 25% of their budget although if you add up the Congressional appropriated defense budget from 1996 to 2001, you only come up with $1.6 trillion. That in itself is an investigative story… But… what about what they admitted to??

Rumeurs et  Certitude… un nouveau tournoi se met en place à Dijon, celui des Tennis du Carrousel, dont pourrait sortir vainqueur un projet immobilier en lieu et place d’une grande partie des ces équipements et espaces environnants, héritage d’un patrimoine inestimable méritant “protection” et non “destruction”.

Tous les acteurs sont inscrits sur la feuille de match : la Municipalité, les Architectes et Bureaux d’études associés, les Habitants du quartier et rues voisines, l’Association  “Les Amis des Allées”, les outsiders, et les spectateurs – sportifs pratiquant attendus nombreux, etc….

Mais en combien de sets ce tournoi se déroulera- t- il ?

Chaque acteur de ce tournoi a, dans sa raquette,  des éléments intangibles :

• La Municipalité : essentiellement  la politique du logement, en application du programme électoral du Maire, politique bien évidemment importante pour la cité, dans un “Cadre EcoPlu” encore mal appréhendé par les Dijonnais 
  
•  Les Habitants du quartier et rues voisines : la protection de l’environnement, du site, la problématique de stationnement, de circulation déjà saturée rue Chevreul avec toutes les difficultés induites pour les riverains, la notion d’esthétique architecturale adaptée au contexte, développement et utilisation des structures sportives, valorisation des espaces verts existants dédiés aux familles, etc…   
  
• L’association” Les Amis des Allées” : “conservation et mise  en valeur des patrimoines particuliers et collectifs qui caractérisent le site du quartier des Allées du Parc, à Dijon”(extrait des statuts) 
  
• Les outsiders attendus : ceux-ci pourraient animer ce tournoi et proposer une autre destinée à ces terrains déclarés non rentables. Parcours pour Personnes à Mobilité Réduite (P.M.R.), tennis pour P.M.R. Plusieurs exemples existent sur le Grand Dijon, mais pas à Dijon même, alors pourquoi pas ?
  Bien d’autres destinées à caractère publique sont prévisibles, attendons la feuille de match !
   
• Les Spectateurs, sportifs – pratiquant : comment admettre qu’un domaine sportif, public, soit livré à l’investissement privé faisant alors disparaitre leur lieu de pratique favori ? Equipement certes en mauvais état, mais le propriétaire actuel ne l’a-t-il pas voulu ainsi ? 
   
• L’arbitre, l’EcoPlu : mais quelles sont ses limites, ses contraintes ?

L’Amicale party du 21 novembre 2009 fut un grand succès.
160 repas  ont été servis dont 120 sur place. Le menu préparé par des commerçants locaux (paëlla et mousse au chocolat), a été fort apprécié des petits et des grands.
La soirée a été ponctuée par un blind test musical durant lequel une dizaine d’équipes se sont départagées dans la bonne humeur générale. Finalement, deux équipes ont fini ex aequo.
Après le repas, les convives se sont lancées sur la piste pour danser jusqu’au bout de la nuit.
Merci aux bénévoles qui se sont investis dans cette soiré et ont permis son bon déroulement.
Merci aussi à tous ceux qui ont pris part au repas, que ce soit sur place ou à emporter.
Prochain rendez vous de l’Amicale, le 17 décembre 2009 pour un pot de fin d’année.

A leading British climate scientist has come under pressure to resign over a series of leaked e-mails, which global warming sceptics say point to a mass conspiracy. The scandal erupted after a research server was hacked into, and private e-mails and documents were released, suggesting that scientists may have colluded to prevent the release of climate data.

Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) — Adrian Gibbs, the virologist who said in May that swine flu may have escaped from a laboratory, published his findings today, renewing discussion about the origins of the pandemic virus.

The new H1N1 strain, which was discovered in Mexico and the U.S. in April, may be the product of three strains from three continents that swapped genes in a lab or a vaccine-making plant, Gibbs, and fellow Australian scientists wrote in Virology Journal. The authors analyzed the genetic makeup of the virus and found its origin could be more simply explained by human involvement than a coincidence of nature.

Their study, published in a free, online journal reviewed by other scientists, follows debate among researchers six months ago, when Gibbs asked the World Health Organization to consider the hypothesis. After reviewing Gibbs’ initial three-page paper, WHO and other organizations concluded the pandemic strain was a naturally occurring virus and not laboratory-derived.

“It is important that the source of the new virus be found if we wish to avoid future pandemics rather than just trying to minimize the consequences after they have emerged,” Gibbs and colleagues John Armstrong and Jean Downie said in today’s eight- page study.

Gibbs and Armstrong are on the emeritus faculty at the Australian National University in Canberra and Downie is affiliated with the Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology Laboratory Services at Sydney’s Westmead Hospital, according to the study.

While the exact source of the new H1N1 strain is a mystery, their research has “raised many new questions,” they said. The authors compared the genetic blueprints of flu strains stored in the free database Genbank and found the pandemic virus’s nearest ancestors circulate in pigs.

‘Simplest Explanation’

While migratory birds may have acted as conduit for their convergence, human involvement in bringing them together is “by far the simplest explanation,” Gibbs said in a telephone interview today.

Gibbs wrote or coauthored more than 250 scientific publications on viruses, mostly pertaining to the plant world, during his 39-year career at the Australian National University, according to biographical information on the university’s Web site.

“Knowing Adrian Gibbs, he will have thought through it pretty logically and come to that conclusion,” Lance Jennings, a clinical virologist with Canterbury Health Laboratories in Christchurch, New Zealand, said in a telephone interview. “It’s up to someone else to try and prove it or disprove it.”

 The scientist at the heart of the climate change scandal was under growing pressure to quit last night. 

George Monbiot, a leading environmentalist, said Phil Jones should resign from the Climatic Research Unit over leaked emails that appear to show researchers suppressed scientific data. 

More emails came to light yesterday, including one in which an American climatologist admitted it was a travesty that scientists could not explain a lack of global warming in recent years.

In another note, UK researchers dismissed the work of scientists challenging global warming as ‘crap’.

Another appeared to call for pressure on the BBC after a reporter suggested that evidence for rising temperatures since 2001 was thin.

The leak has been a huge embarrassment to the climate unit at the University of East Anglia, which is a global leader in its field.

Although there is no hint of evidence that climate change is not real, the emails appear to show researchers manipulating raw data and discussing how to dodge Freedom of Information requests.

‘I am now convinced that they are genuine, and I’m dismayed and deeply shaken,’ he said. ‘There are some messages that require no spin to make them look bad. 

‘There appears to be evidence of attempts to prevent scientific data from being released, and even to destroy material that was subject to a Freedom of Information request. 

‘Worse still, some of the emails suggest efforts to prevent the publication of work by climate sceptics, or to keep it out of a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. 

‘The head of the unit, Phil Jones, should now resign. Some of the data discussed in the emails should be re-analysed.’ 

Bob Ward, a climate expert at the London School of Economics and Political Science, demanded an independent inquiry. 

‘From what I’ve seen of the emails, there’s not been any new questions raised about the way papers have been put together, but there should be an re-examination of the emails,’ he said. 

The emails  -  which appeared last week on a Russian website  -  appear to have been stolen from a university computer server.

Yesterday, Professor Jones refused to quit and denied that researchers had altered evidence to bolster the case for man-made climate change. 

He added: ‘We absolutely stand by the science we produce here at the University of East Anglia and it has been peer reviewed and published. 

‘Some of the emails probably had poorly chosen words and were sent in the heat of the moment, when I was frustrated. I do regret sending some of them. We’ve not deleted any emails or data here at CRU. 

‘I would never manipulate the data one bit  -  I would categorically deny that.’ The university is to conduct an independent review of data security and on its response to 60 freedom of information requests over a short period. 

● At least half the 36 UK officials and ministers travelling to the climate change talks in Copenhagen are going by air rather than by rail. 

The Liberal Democrats said the arrangements showed up Labour’s hypocrisy on green issues. 

The Government said officials had meetings that limited their travel options next month.

GlaxoSmithKline says other lots of the vaccine are not affected

GlaxoSmithKline has advised doctors in Canada to stop using a batch of its swine flu vaccine, amid reports of severe side-effects in some patients.

The batch of some 170,000 doses was put on voluntary hold because of a reported higher than usual number of patients having anaphylactic reactions.

This may include breathing problems, raised heart rate and skin rashes.

The pharmaceutical company said it had advised that one lot of the Arepanrix vaccine should not be used.

Reports said one in 20,000 people suffered adverse reactions to the batch.

This is five times the expected number. None of the patients reportedly suffered long-term ill-effects.

Voluntary hold

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company said that following discussions with Canadian health authorities, it was advising a batch of the Arepanrix vaccine with the lot number A80CA007A to be put on hold as a precautionary measure.

GSK said it was taking this action “as a result of a higher than expected rate of serious allergic reactions related to this lot number compared to other lots”.

The company said no such reactions had been seen with other lots and that they were unaffected by the voluntary hold.

To date some 15 million doses of Arepanrix have been distributed across Canada and overall the frequency of severe allergic reaction following immunisation was less than one event per 100,000, GSK’s statement said.

“This rate does not exceed the rates typically reported for other vaccines,” GSK said.

The above figures from the latest daily update from the Ukraine Ministry of Health support a decline in the rate of increases of cases and deaths, but the total is now almost 400 fatalities (see map).  The spread was likely slowed by the country-wide closing of schools along with warmer weather.  However, it is likely that the virus will return as temperatures drop and the traditional flu season begins, although it is unclear if seasonal flu will be in circulation in 2010.

The receptor binding domain change, D225G, was in four of four sequence from fatal cases, raising concerns that the 2,3 alpha specificity of D225G drove the H1N1 to the lungs and the total destruction.  Three patients in Norway were said to also have D225G, and two of the three died while the third had been in serious condition.  25 HA sequences from Norway were deposited at Genbank, but only one had D225G, and it was a mixture.  In Brazil both patients with D225G in lung samples had died, and the case in China had been in serious condition.

However, the severity of the infection may be related to the ratio of sequences with and without D255G, as well as viral load, because milder cases involving D225G have also been reported in the United States and Hong Kong.

More detail on additional cases, including sequences from upper and lower respiratory tract from the same patient would be useful.

Fatal H1N1 Cluster in Texas Raises Pandemic Concerns

A hospital spokesman has confirmed the second recorded H1N1 related death in Nacogdoches County. The 53-year-old oil rig worker from Enid, Oklahoma died Friday at 3:50 p.m.

The victim checked into Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital last week when he began experiencing severe symptoms. 

This update follows the death of his roommate, a 55-year-old oil rig worker from Mississippi, who passed away Thursday morning as a result of H1N1.

The above comments describe the deaths of roommates infected with H1N1.  Since the vast majority of H1N1 infections are mild, the death of two roommates within 24 hours of each others raises concerns that they were infected with a lethal contagious form of the virus.  Recent reports out of Ukraine has raised concerns that H1N1 with the receptor binding domain change D225G, is such a virus.

Ukraine has reported 388 pneumonia deaths in the past several weeks and agency reports described 90 cases which involved total destruction of both lungs.  Recently released sequences from Mill Hill in London included 4 fatal cases and all four cases had D225G, which was not present in the other six sequences which appear to be from milder cases.

D225G was identified during the 1918 pandemic in lung samples from victims in New York in 1918 and London in 1919.  This change was also detected during 2009 pandemic target reassortants, indicating D225G is present as mixtures in various individuals.  These mixtures can segregate during passage through hosts since D225G is a receptor binding domain that influences tissue tropism and allows the virus to target alpha 2,3 receptors, such as those seen in type II lung alveolar cells.  Many of the fatal cases in the United States have also involved ARDS and hemorrhagic lungs, raising concerns that isolates with high levels of D225G can produce the increasing levels of such fatalities being reported throughout the northern hemisphere, including cases in Norway.

Since the D225G can circulate as a mixture, transmission and lung targeting can be facilitated by pseudo-typing.  Moreover, D225G was identified in the vaccine target, A/California/7/2009, indicating claims of “spontaneous mutations” in patients in Norway or Ukraine are false.

The increasing number of deaths, including the cluster described in Texas raises concerns that D225G is gaining traction.  More sequencing of samples near lung tissues in severe and fatal cases would be useful.

H1N1 Re-infections Raise Pandemic Concerns

Dr. Debra Parsons, a pediatrician at Kid Care West in Cross Lanes, was met with reactions of doubt from local health officials last month when she said two flu tests had come back positive for H1N1, or swine flu.

Parsons first came down with the virus, complete with all the telltale symptoms, in August.

Her son became ill at the same time with the same symptoms. Figuring they had the same bug, Parsons tested herself to see what it was.

The test came back positive for Influenza A, so the lab at Charleston Area Medical Center sent it to be sub-typed. Parsons was positive for H1N1.

Parsons and her son recovered, but in October they started having the same symptoms, but they became much worse.

They were both tested this time, and the results were the same — they were positive for Influenza A and then H1N1.

“It was swine flu both times,” Parsons said.

The above comments on lab confirmed re-infection of two family members two months apart by swine H1N1.  These confirmations are supported by many anecdotal reports of similar re-infections.  The timing of these infections allowed for easy identification, because at the time there was no seasonal flu, so identification of infections was straight-forward.  Moreover, such infections in school aged children and parents are common because H1N1 infections exploded when school began.

At the time however, the H1N1 virus was evolving slowly, reflecting an ease of infection of a naïve population.  The jump from swine H1N1 into humans allows for infections with low doses of virus.  Low concentration of virus produces a mild infection and a weak antibody response.  The rapid spread creates widespread antibody, but the low level allows for re-infection from individuals with a higher viral load.  A higher viral load can be created in a school environment, where some students could be infected multiple times because of frequent contact with infected students.

Thus, the increased viral load could overcome the weak immune-response and re-infect those infected earlier, leading to a second wave.  However, the higher viral load leads to more serious infections, especially for these not infected in the first wave.  Consequently more previously health young adults develop more serious symptoms, leading to an increase in hospitalizations and deaths.  The higher viral load, especially when combined with receptor binding domain changes such as D225G can lead to the type of cases seen in Ukraine, where a high percentage of young adults develop infections that destroy both lungs in a matter of  a few days.

In many areas, including Ukraine, this wave is subsiding, but the holiday season will lead to new infections by viruses with regional markers, leading to a third wave in early 2010.

Spontaneous Mutation Media Myth

The mutations appear to occur sporadically and spontaneously. To date, no links between the small number of patients infected with the mutated virus have been found and the mutation does not appear to spread.

The above comment from the WHO briefing on D225G (aka D222G) in Norway describes how the “mutations appear”.  However, this appearance is based on an outdated view of influenza evolution, which maintains that all newly acquired drift “mutations” are based on copy errors.  For D225G, this would require the same copy error to occur again and again on multiple backgrounds, which simply is not reality based. 

Although the “random mutation” explanation is one of the basic tenets of the WHO and CDC view of influenza evolution, this explanation is only viable in the absence of data.  Extensive influenza  sequence data moved this hypothesis into the indefensible category years ago, but it remains at the core of WHO explanations of drift variants, such as the comments above.

The “random mutation” and failure to spread would require each detection to be an independent event. Thus, in Norway, the same copy error would have been made in each of the three patients with D225G.  Similarly, the same error would be required for each of the four fatal cases in Ukraine.  Moreover, the same error would be made in the vaccine target, A/California/7/2009, because one of the 2:6 reassortants also had D225G.  As the number of sequences with D225G increases, the likelihood that the same error happens again and again, among a very small number of differences (for HA in Ukraine, the only non-synonymous change was D225G), becomes untenable.,

The appearance of D225G on multiple genetic backgrounds of H1N1 parallels the sudden appearance of H274Y on multiple backgrounds of pandemic H1N1, which follows the same scenario of H274Y on multiple seasonal flu backgrounds in patients not taking Tamiflu.  The acquisition of H274Y was readily explained by recombination, which led to the acquisition of key changes that were on clade 2C and then jumped to a clade 2B background.  In addition to the H274Y jump to seasonal flu in patients not taking Tamiflu, silent changes were also observed, which also discounted heavy selection pressure favoring these changes.

For D225G, the change was present in one of the earliest isolates in the United States.  It could jump from one background to another via recombination between sequences that are closely related.  As a result, the new acquisitions lead to a new single nucleotide polymorphism, which looked like a point mutation, but was really recombination between closely related sequences.

Thus, both H274Y and D225G move from one genetic background to another via recombination.  A new spontaneous mutation is not required for each isolate and the same sequence in a given area is just due to clonal expansion of an isolate with the new acquisition.  This could be seen in the sequences from Ukraine.  The Ternopil isolates had a marker found in all Ternopil isolates, including those from nasal washes that did not have D225G.  The receptor binding domain change was appended onto this background.  The same change was also on Lviv sequences from fatal cases which did not have the Ternopil marker.  Thus, D225G moved from a Lviv to a Ternopil background via recombination (or vice verse).  Moreover, the frequent jumping of the same polymorphism from one background to another allowed fro the prediction that D225G would be found on the Ukraine sequences.  This type of concurrent acquisition has also been described for a silent mutation in H5N1, which again would be widespread in the absence of an obvious clear selection pressure.

Thus, the movement of the same polymorphism via recombination is common.  It explains the sudden appearance of the same marker on multiple genetic backgrounds, and forms a basis for predicting changes.

However, the reliance on a “random mutation” produces “surprise after surprise” among influenza “experts” and creates “appearances” such as spontaneous mutations and lack of transmission which are not based on reality.

Top officials tell hearings on Iraq war that Baghdad regime distanced itself from Osama bin Laden’s movement

There was no evidence of any serious co-operation between Saddam Hussein’s regime and al-Qaida after the 9/11 attacks and contacts before had been sporadic, senior civil servants told the Iraq war inquiry in London today.

Iraq did not want to be associated with the attacks and was not a natural ally of the terrorists, the civil servants said, as they confirmed that Baghdad was not “top of the list” when it came to concerns over weapons capacity in 2001. Iran, Libya and North Korea were considered greater threats. One of the witnesses said he was not surprised by the notorious claim in the government dossier to justify the 2003 invasion that Iraq could deploy weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes.

Tim Dowse, the head of counter-proliferation at the Foreign Office at the time, and Sir William Ehrman, who was its director of international security at the same department, were giving evidence on the second day of the hearings.

Saddam had supported Palestinian terrorists but his regime’s contacts with groups linked to al-Qaida were sporadic, Dowse said. “There had been nothing that looked like a relationship between the Iraqis and al-Qaida. In fact, after 9/11 we concluded that Iraq actually stepped further back. They did not want to be associated with al-Qaida. They weren’t natural allies.

“Speaking personally, when I saw the 45 minutes report, I did not give it particular significance because it didn’t seem out of line with what we generally assessed to be Iraq’s intentions and capabilities with regard to chemical weapons.” He took the 45-minute claim to refer to a multi-barrelled rocket launcher kept ready for deployment by Iraqi forces in the event of conflict.

“It certainly took on a rather iconic status that I don’t think that those of us who saw the initial report really gave – it wasn’t surprising,” Dowse said.

Asked about suggestions that the 45 minutes referred to a possible WMD strike against another nation, Dowse said: “I don’t think we ever said that it was for use in a ballistic missile in that way.” The inquiry panel member Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman replied : “But you didn’t say it wasn’t.”

Yesterday, other officials said Tony Blair’s government knew prominent members of the Bush administration wanted to topple Saddam years before the invasion. But the Blair government initially distanced itself from the idea, knowing it would be unlawful.British intelligence dismissed claims by elements in the US administration that the Iraqi leader was linked to Osama bin Laden, the inquiry heard.

Evidence given at the opening day of the inquiry, chaired by the former top civil servant Sir John Chilcot, painted a picture of a Whitehall slowly realising the significance of George Bush’s election in November 2000 on US policy towards Iraq.

Sir Peter Ricketts, a former chairman of the joint intelligence committee (JIC) and now the Foreign Office’s top official, told the inquiry that even before Bush came to power, an article written by his then national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, warned that “nothing will change” in Iraq until Saddam was gone.

Sir William Patey, then head of the Middle East department at the Foreign Office, said: “We were aware of these drumbeats from Washington and internally we discussed it. Our policy was to stay away from that part of the spectrum.”

Patey revealed that in late 2001 – following the 9/11 attacks on the US – he asked officials at the ministry to draw up an Iraq “options” paper including regime change. “We dismissed it at the time because it had no basis in law,” Patey told the inquiry.

Simon Webb, a former policy director at the Ministry of Defence, described the issue of regime change in Iraq during the early days of the Bush administration as “the dog that did not bark. It grizzled, but it did not bark.”

The exchanges on the opening day of the inquiry were significant in the light of previously leaked documents revealing Blair told Bush in April 2002 – nearly a year before the invasion of Iraq – that he would in principle support military action “to bring about regime change”.

A month earlier, David Manning, a Downing Street foreign policy adviser at the time, told Blair that he had advised Rice that “you [Blair] would not budge in your support for regime change but you had to manage a press, a parliament, and a public opinion which is very different than anything in the states”.

Yet in July 2002, Lord Goldsmith, then attorney general, was still warning the government that regime change was “not a legal basis for military action”, according to leaked documents.

Pressed by Sir Roderic Lyne, a member of the inquiry panel and a former UK ambassador to Moscow, to explain the JIC’s assessment of the threat posed by Iraq at the time, Ricketts replied that it was a “major feature on the agenda but by no means dominant”. The Balkans, Sierra Leone – where British forces were facing down rebels – and Afghanistan were considered higher priorities, though attempts by Saddam to get his hands on weapons of mass destruction were “a continuing threat”, Ricketts added. Patey said Iraq did not pose “an immediate threat”.

The Iraq inquiry heard that any lingering US sympathy for Britain’s policy of “containment” of Saddam through UN sanctions quickly evaporated after 9/11. The Pentagon, rather than the US state department, became the “dominant instrument” in American foreign policy.

Moreover, voices in Washington were starting to link the Iraqi leader to al-Qaida. Ricketts said Britain had no evidence showing Iraq was “linked in any way to 9/11 … We didn’t have any such evidence.”

Neo-conservatives in the Bush administration and the CIA claimed in the run-up to the invasion that Saddam was linked to al-Qaida, a claim dismissed at the time by MI6.

According to previously leaked documents, Ricketts, the political director at the Foreign Office at the time, described the US in 2002 as “scrambling to establish a link between Iraq and al-Qaida”, a link that was “so far frankly unconvincing”. He told Jack Straw, then foreign secretary: “We have to be convincing that the threat is so serious/imminent that it is worth sending our troops to die for. Regime change does not stack up. It sounds like a grudge match between Bush and Saddam.”

Lyne questioned why Britain and the US came to such different conclusions from other countries about the dangers Iraq posed. He asked: “With the exception of Kuwait, were the countries in the region banging on doors in London and Washington saying ‘We’re very worried about Saddam Hussein, please can you do something about him?’”

Patey replied: “I can’t say my door was being knocked on very regularly.”

One of the panel members, Lady Prashar, later questioned whether official policy towards Iraq was about disarmament or regime change.

“It seems a deliberate policy of ambiguity,” she said.

“I don’t think that’s true,” replied Ricketts.

Climate change alarmists engaged in desperate whitewash, but scandal is not going away

In response to the astounding revelations arising out of the hacked CRU emails, Senator Jim Inhofe has stated that unless something is done within the next seven days, he will lead the call for a rigorous investigation into mounting evidence that top climate scientists conspired to manipulate data to hide evidence of global cooling while engaging in academic witch hunts to eliminate scientists skeptical of man-made climate change.

Speaking on the Americas Morning Show earlier today, Inhofe, Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said the new revelations proved what he has been warning about for over four years, that politicians and bias-driven climate scientists affiliated with the UN IPCC have been fraudulently “cooking the science” to conform to their agenda.

“If nothing happens in the next seven days when we go back into session a week from today that would change this situation, I will call for an investigation,” said Inhofe. “Cause this thing is serious, you think about the literally millions of dollars that have been thrown away on some of this stuff that they came out with.”

Asked what he would call for an investigation of, Inhofe responded, “On the IPCC and on the United Nations on the way that they cooked the science to make this thing look as if the science was settled, when all the time of course we knew it was not.”

Meanwhile, even some pro-man made global warming advocates have conceded that an investigation is necessary.

Bob Ward, director of policy and communications at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics, told the London Guardian that only a rigorous investigation could clear the names of those accused of manipulating the data, admitting that the emails “created the impression of impropriety,” which is a lot further than most have gone in accepting the damning nature of the hacked data.

Indeed, the British Met Office performed the equivalent of a child sticking his fingers in his ears by merely attempting to dismiss the emails altogether, without even explaining what was meant when scientists at CRU talked about pulling “tricks” to “hide the decline” in temperatures.

A spokesman at the Met Office, which jointly produces global temperature datasets with the Climate Research Unit, said there was no need for an inquiry. “If you look at the emails, there isn’t any evidence that the data was falsified and there’s no evidence that climate change is a hoax. It’s a shame that some of the sceptics have had to take this rather shallow attempt to discredit robust science undertaken by some of the world’s most respected scientists. The bottom line is that temperatures continue to rise and humans are responsible for it. We have every confidence in the science and the various datasets we use. The peer-review process is as robust as it could possibly be. It’s no surprise, with the Copenhagen talks just days away, that this has happened now.”

As James Delingpole of the Telegraph highlights, alarmists are not going to be effected by the scandal, because they will allow nothing whatsoever to corrupt their religious belief system. “They’ve made up their minds and no quantity of contrary evidence, however devastating, is going to shake their considered position of “Nyah nyah nyah. Got my fingers in my ears. Not listening. The world IS warming and it’s man’s fault. Must tax carbon now….”

However, there seems little doubt that this bombshell will go a long way to derailing, or at least delaying the agenda for a global carbon tax that will be collected by the very same elitists aggressively pushing the fraud of global warming.
