Ingrid Michaelson machte mit vier Jahren ihre ersten musikalischen Schritte an der Gitarre und studierte später am Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute in Staten Island. Sie schrieb ihre ersten Songs, als sie als Regisseurin eine Theatertruppe begleitete. 2002 trat sie zum ersten Mal in einer Café Bar in ihrer Heimatstadt auf. Ein Jahr später veröffentlichte sie ihre Debüt-Single. „Slow the Rain“ im Selbstverlag Cabin 24. Ihr erstes Album „Girls and Boys“ wurde auf MySpace veröffentlicht und machte die Musikmanagerin Lynn Grossman auf Ingrid aufmerksam. Lynn Grossman platzierte den Titel „Breakable“ im November 2006 in einer Episode von Grey’s Anatomy. Im Internet wurde Ingrid Michaelson immer gefragter und ihr Album Girls and Boys kletterte auf Platz 2 der iTunes Pop Charts. Leider wurde ihr Album erst im Dezember 2008 in Deutschland veröffentlicht, die Single „The Way I Am“ erschien jedoch bereits vorab am 28. November 2008.

Girls und Boys wurde ein großer Erfolg und verschaffte Ingrid Michaelson mehrere Fernseh- und Konzertauftritte in den USA. Im Herbst 2008 trat sie im Vorprogramm von Jason Mraz auf. Nebenbei engagierte sie sich auf diversen Benefizveranstaltungen. Einnahmen aus ihrem dritten Album „Be OK“ – erschienen im Oktober 2008 – kamen wohltätigen Zwecken zu gute.

Was macht Ingrid Michaelson so außergewöhnlich? Ihre Musik ist nicht das einzige, das sie von anderen Musikern unterscheidet. Stets zu Späßen aufgelegt, veralbert sie ihre eigenen Kompositionen. Ingrid Michaelson ist sehr charismatisch und hat einen Esprit, der alle ansteckt. Dies macht ihre Musik so interessant und es gibt stets einen Song für jede Gelegenheit.

Wer Interesse hat, ihr Album Girls and Boys ist schon draußen und in jedem Music Store zu haben. Das erste? (Single oder Album?) Slow The Rain kann man in Deutschland leider noch nicht kaufen. Wer aber nach dem Reinschnuppern nicht darauf verzichten kann, sollte mal bei iTunes stöbern.

This weekend I joined an actual vampire, a werewolf hunter, a scholar of the weird, and a sword-wielding filmmaker for a matinee of the new Twilight movie. It was something Leticia suggested, I guess to show us there were no hard feelings after we crashed the film festival last month. Or maybe to punish us.

Seeing New Moon isn’t something I would have considered if Leticia hadn’t asked and I think Ella, Ingrid, and Pike felt the same way. Before the movie started we would periodically look at each other with “So…um…Twilight” kinds of expressions. We sat on a side bank of seats near the back, so Pike and Ingrid wouldn’t obstruct the views of 90% of the people in the audience.

The order we were sitting in was Ingrid, Ella, me, Leticia, and Pike. My position in the middle gave me an interesting auditory experience. For instance, here’s what I heard from my left and right in the scene when Bella mopes around for three months:

I: chortle
E: exasperated sigh
L: sympathetic “mmmm”
P: derisive “pfff”

Here’s what I heard when Jacob whips his shirt off:

I: chortle
E: intrigued “mmmm”
L: luxurious “mmmm”
P: exasperated sigh

Afterward we went to Perkins, where Leticia assured us she wouldn’t take it personally if we didn’t like the movie. Her only complaint seemed to be that the sole red-haired vampire was a villainess. Actually, most of the time we spent on the movie was asking Leticia how closely it matched up with her experience. There weren’t a lot of questions she was comfortable answering directly.

Ella asked her if there was an actual vampire council like the Volturi and Leticia responded that if there was, you wouldn’t have to get in an elevator to see them. Ingrid asked if Edward was a typical vampire. “I’ve met some like that,” Leticia said with a smirk.

Pike wondered if vampires’ fangs get in the way if they kiss humans and requested that Leticia demonstrate a safe mouth-to-mouth kissing technique on Ingrid. Leticia and Ingrid laughed and Ella uttered the same sigh she did during the movie.

I  asked about human-vampire couples. Actually it was more like, “So, a human and vampire…you know…is that…I mean…do…” Leticia responded that it was complicated. Actually it was more like, “Yeah…I…there have been…it’s not…um…” Ingrid put an end to it by slamming her hand on the table. “Dudes!” she exclaimed. “We’ve got to hunt that dog thingy once there’s snow on the ground and I can track it!” We agreed.

Je croise un homme que je trouve absolument séduisant. Je fais une analyse très sérieuse des raisons qui me le rendent séduisant : les traits bien dessinés, un peu marqués mais pas trop, sans doute les phéronomes adéquats, etc.  le tout signalant aux femmes une bonne disposition à la reproduction, de bons gènes tout comme il faut.

je rejoins ensuite un groupe de nanas qui doit justement juger des hommes, dont celui-là, je me mets à fantasmer un peu sur une possible union en regardant des photos du mec dans des magazines de greluche (ou type GQ peut-être), mais je garde un visage neutre, je n’en montre rien à personne.

Je suis dans la salle de douches communes d’un hôpital, maman n’est pas loin. C’est des douches communes, mais c’est en fait au top de ce qui se fait pour un hôpital, les différents postes de douche (ce ne sont pas des cabines) étant adaptés aux différents handicaps, hyper modernes, avec des jets d’eau bien placés pour les personnes en fauteuil roulant, par exemple.

Je me douche sans trop me déshabiller, j’hésite à enlever le t-shirt, je n’ai pas tellement envie de montrer mes seins à toute la salle (sachant que c’est en plus une salle de douches mixtes), je me douche donc sous le t-shirt.

Je parle ensuite avec une nana, brune aux jolis traits, qui a un problème à son ventre, qu’elle ne peut plus rentrer comme il faut, c’est apparemment assez grave. ça me rappelle ingrid qui se plaint de ne s’être pas encore débarrassée de son bedon de grossesse.

Its Sunday afternoon and my boys are having their nap. Seldom that I have the house all to myself. I’m always infront of the computer working or watching my TV series faves while Peewee will take my hand every 5 minutes. AND when Peewee takes his nap, John will be playing his XBOX or watch one of his DVDs. Its nice to have some alone time once in a while. I’m writing this post while watching TV! Whoah!

I also fixed something for myself that reminded me of my childhood.

Its pan de sal slightly toasted smeared with condensed milk. Its warm and cold at the same time. Crunchy and soft in every bite. My mom used to prepare this every Sunday afternoon after my nap and she sometimes top mine with sliced bananas.

Ohh… I miss my 5 year old self.

I am a lolo and lola’s girl. According to my mom, I’m the only apo that stayed with my lolo and lola the longest. You see, I spent my childhood in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro at my grandparents’ house while my parents work on our business in Manila. I am very close to my maternal grandparents. They would stay with us whenever they go in Manila. We traveled with them as well. My Lolo went with us in Boracay when he was in his 80s and in Laoag, Ilocos Norte in his 90s. My mom said that my lola is very meticulous with me. She would bathe me in tea believed that give you nice complexion. I miss them terribly so, especially my Lolo.

So when I got sick during the Halloween season, it broke my heart especially that my lolo just passed away last year only. And they have been “visiting” me – no kidding. I would hear my lola calling me and smell my lolo’s pomade. I would feel their presence every day that passes that I haven’t visited them. So by the time I had the strength to go to the cemetry, I asked my mom to drive me and Peewee to visit them.

We went to the Libangan ng mga Bayani first early morning. My lolo was a Guerilla when world war II broke in the Philippines. He would tell me stories on how they hid in the jungles of Sierra Madre and kill Japanese soldiers. My lolo have tons of stories, how he quit smoking, how he met my lola, how he learned palm reading and his agimat. I am so lucky to have a lolo like him. He really lived his 103-year life to the fullest.

After Libangan ng mga Bayani, we headed to my lola at Loyola Memorial at Marikina. My lola is the epitome of a Filipina mestiza. She was very malumanay, mataray and mahinhin. I remember my lola doesn’t eat anything dark – chocolate, Coke, dinuguan. She would stick her tongue out of disgust seeing them. She said she doesn’t eat dark food because it may darken her skin. She’d always comb her hair and put powder in her face.

Now that they are gone, I will some day show pictures and tell stories about them to Peewee. Not a day goes by that I wish my lola and lolo see Peewee grow up.

We know with Absolute Certainty that these verses refer to Obama and are God Jesus’ Absolute Will and  Decree for him from the foundation of the world. Afterall the mark of a True Christian is to quote-mine,  prooftext, pick and choose  or cheery pick random verses from the bible as a means of sound bite Theology. believe God when He speaks in His Word— the King James Bible AV1611 and obey Him and His Word— the King James Bible AV1611.

This then is our Imprecatory Prayer against Obama that God Himself commands all True Believers to pray. Now had one of our own leaders been elected President then everyone must obey Romans 13—but since we have an anti-Christ in the White House then we must pray Imprecatory Prayers until we install Robo-Reagan Ron Luce as Supreme Theocratic Dictator of the World for life—a True tyrant Patriot in the likeness of John Calvin our Final Prophet.

Why is it that we hear a voice and come up with what we think they look like?
Do we have to  invent some imaginary image to talk?

This is my Amazon account where it has a gamut of things recommended for me. If you see closely, its a very diverse out whack set of recommendations. There’s children’s books, then zombie books and chic literature. When I met John, we shared the same gusto for Anne Rice novels. Its raunchy, seductive and darn right entertaining. We wanted to instill in Peewee the love for reading at an early age that’s why we started reading to him by the time we got home from the hospital.

My love for reading started late in my life. I hated books when I was in elementary and high school. I finished my book reports with a heavy heart (Have you read the unabridged version of Les Miserables? All 1000 + pages of it?). I started reading leisurely when I was about to enter college. My first book for leisure was “Choose Your Own Adventure”. It was the kind of series of books that you make the decision how the story takes its course. Then I progressed to classics like East of Eden by Steinbeck, Sonnets of Shakespeare, Mark Twain and Wuthering Heights. By college sophomore, I started reading Anne Rice, Stephen King and biographies of  the Elephant Man, Siamese Twins, Robert Ludlow and began purchasing Guinness Book of World Records. As you can see my interest in book subjects does not include romance. I was fascinated with weird subjects and factoids only now that I enjoy reading Chic Literature.

Also need to get the swine flu vaccination. I hate injections!

Aside from thinking up blog names [I can only take credit for the name – Swa came up with the tackily awesome “travell(ing) (lex)icon”] and creating banners, my travelling plans have come to a halt. I’m at that stage of planning where I know I still have more than a month and there is so much to sort through I can’t be bothered. All flights (plus the Egypt tour) are booked, deposits have been placed on some accommodation and my passport photo isn’t half green anymore . My SLR has returned to life and is cleaner than previously, and although it occasionally refuses to work, unless its battery is taken out and replaced, it seems to be doing the job. Still I’m somewhat concerned it will cark it half way through my trip…

I said goodbye to Amani today. She gets back on the 28^th of December. I leave on Christmas Day. It will be 2½ months till I see her… Feels strange. The thought of jumping on a plane and getting away makes me want to dance! The thought of what I have left to do makes me procrastinate. I have made a list though. Lists are so much easier to make than achieve:

• Print out itinerary
• Get a credit card
• Suitcase???
• Pay for rest of tour and accommodation
• Book accommodation for my first night in Istanbul
• Winter clothing (how am I constantly running out of clothes?!)
• Buy another SD card

As Lex mentioned in her blog last night we took many pointless photos of our hands, a band on each ring finger just for this blog. At some point soon I will get myself a program which converts raw files into jpgs so I can actually put them up!

I probably won’t blog for a while now. It seems pointless to until I’m on my way overseas. Should really put my music blog up – yes Nick I’m getting to it. One day

I was in a bit of hiatus the past weeks because I caught a very bad case of flu. It came out of nowhere. We spent the Halloween weekend at my parents’ place so that Peewee can experience the Trick or Treat activity at the village. Since Peewee doesn’t like costumes we just drove around the village and looked at how the neighborhood prepared for the yearly activity. My mom and I had the visiting schedule planned out: Libangan ng mga Bayani, Loyola Marikina then Bulacan last. Saturday night (Oct 31) we were bored out of our wits after dinner that we decided to go to Starbucks at the Ayala Hub (its our new tambayan) and had some coffee. By Sunday early morning (around 2am) I was chilling with 40C fever just like that. From perky me to sick as hell me in a matter of hours. Was under medication ’round the clock but the fever did not subside. John was baffled what was wrong with me. He even let me recall what happened to me the past 2-3 days. By Sunday (Nov 1) in the afternoon, my fever was spiking again that they decided to give me a sponge bath. I can’t move, my head was spinning and throbbing and Peewee was yanking me out of bed. Mahirap pala magkasakit pag nanay ka I thought. Since Peewee is not accustomed not playing with me, he was frustrated to get me out of bed. When he saw me just sleeping and aching, he stayed with me and he wanted me to read to him. Because John and my mom were afraid that Peewee might get sick too, they would whisk him away and let him play with my sisters. He did get distracted but would come back to my room to comfort me.

When we went back to our home, my fever subsided but felt weak still. Its every hard to be alone at home take care of the house and an uber active toddler. However surprisingly Peewee cooperated during the first 2-3days during my recovery. We just played but the not usual rough play that we do (wrestling) and just read his books over and over. I think Peewee felt his mommy was not feeling well that’s why he was so behave.

Its hard to get sick and a stay at mom at the same time. You have to take care of yourself and take care your husband and kids PLUS the house. I’m very grateful that John helps out alot inside the house AND take care of Peewee. I can’t imagine how single mothers do it when they get sick.
