Ingrown toenails can occur any moment and are generally a cause of distress and unpleasantness. Although they start off being a discomfort more than anything else, if left without treatment they can quickly end up infected and cause severe problems. Untreated ingrown toenails can need surgical treatment to get rid of the infected toenail. Fortunately, there are methods of ingrown toenail home treatment that, if used quickly, can stop the toenail from getting even worse and eradicate} the need for a medical check-up.

Ingrown toenail- what is it?
An ingrown toenail occurs when the sharp edge of a nail cuts into skin at the side of your toe. The first indicators of an ingrown toenail are discomfort and irritation at the area where the nail is curling into the skin. This irritated area may quickly grow extra tissue and drain a yellow-colored substance, signs of infection. In extreme instances, neglected ingrown toenails can cause an abscess that needs surgical procedure to deplete the abscess and prevent it from spreading to the bone tissue. Ingrown toenails are typical in adults and happen more often in men than women.

Treating it at Home
The initial step for ingrown toenail home treatment is to bathe the foot in hot water to make the toenail and skin softer. Adding delicate oil such as tea tree or lavender will assist to soften your toe’s skin even more. Ensure the whole foot is submerged in the water. Bathe the foot for about half an hour, and then use a nail file to gently elevate the corner of the nail and try to get it away from the skin. Do this gently and carefully so as not to irritate the injury or cause yourself unnecessary suffering.

Second Attempt
If the first attempt didn’t do well, dry the foot and apply some tea tree oil or antibacterial ointment to help keep it smooth and clean, and try again in a several hours. It is also crucial to clean the foot two times daily to keep it clean. Once you can securely get the nail away from the toe, cautiously cut the end with sterilized clippers. Also be sure to put on soft shoes with low heels and cover the toe to protect it. Refrain from walking as much as you possibly can.

Continue to wash the foot a number of times a day with soap and warm water. Bathe the foot in Epsom salt at the very least two times a day for a quarter-hour each time. Add a cup of lemon juice, if desired, as the acid solution will battle inflammation and facilitate healing. After fourteen days, the nail should be grown enough for it not to cut into your skin.

Unpleasant
Ingrown toenails are unpleasant, but if caught early and cautiously handled they can be aided at home. The true secret is to keep the foot clean and keep the nail apart from the skin while it grows out. However, if an infection develops consult with a doctor for more professional treatment.

Well the deed is done my ingrown toenail surgery has been carried out and so far so good the pain is gone yay!! :]

The first thing they do is they numb your toes with local anaesthetic which unfortunately for me hurt like hell because I’m a big wuss. The poor podiatrist looked very stressed when I nearly passed out on her eek!! But once they were numb it was all plain sailing from there just sit back relax and wait for the podiatrist to do her thing. (In my case a part nail exision)

The podiatrist then bandaged them up and sent me home to rest and I must admit apart from a bit of pain once the anaesthetic had worn off the pain wasn’t that bad, lets put it this way its no worse than having ingrown toenails in the first place haha!

The bandages came off 4 days later which meant only washing my hair over the bath; boo hiss!! But once they came off my toes looked good, you’ll barely be able to tell once theyre fully healed! :]

If anyone has any questions feel free to post a comment!
