#114 – Inner Circle – “Sweat (A La La La La Long)” – (1994)

I love this song. Sure “Bad Boys” is much better known because of its use as the theme for Cops, but “Sweat” is just awesome. I find 80s-90s pop-reggae to be one of the most fun genres of music: UB40, Shaggy, Inner Circle (there’s more, but my mind is blanking). Also, Ini Kamoze’s “Here Comes the Hotstepper;” which is the source of my PlayStation Online username.

1. Dinner with AE with RN and HB (so random!) joining in–never would’ve imagined the group of us four hanging out together otherwise, but hey, it worked.

In this edition of the World of Reggae Music Collection the selector explores the most popular reggae hits. Pop Reggae helps to bring people from mainstream pop music to the reggae genre. The famous British selector David Rodigan, for example, became infatuated with reggae after hearing Millie Small perform her megahit ”My Boy Lollipop.”   That’s where this selection of popular reggae hits begins with the 1964 international ska hit from the Jamaican singer Millie Small. So I played that one for her and after a while we stood up and danced as I played DJ radio host.

Candy Blogs: I have Fridays off. Today I went to water aerobics, the dentist, breakfast and the bank. At each place I was greeted cheerfully by name. (granted, the bank teller only knew my name because my account was on her screen) But as I was driving home, I was very aware that my life had some kind of impact in many different circles of my life. How did they all know my name? I admit that it felt very nice to be greeted by name.

I have an inner circle of family and friends, and several circles beyond. It’s comfortable and intimate inside that inner circle. We all need one. The world is a big, lonely place without one. We don’t usually do well outside of “community.” God made us relational. But each extending circle or level of relationship is also important. We have extended family, acquaintances, contacts. In my Creative Memories business we have a FRANK list; it stands for friends, relatives, acquaintances, neighbors and kids (people we know because of our kids). It’s a good representation of the mix of relationships in our normal life. Today I started out in my inner circle with my husband … comfortable and loving. At water aerobics, we have developed some new friendships, over the last almost two years, just by consistently being in the same place at the same time. We’ve gradually learned more about each other and enjoy a very pleasant but on the surface relationship.

At breakfast, Scott and I are welcomed enthusiastically because we’ve been going to the same restaurant for breakfast for the last five years, maybe longer. I can’t really remember when we first started going there. We’re told that we’re always friendly and kind to the staff and tell them how great our experience is there. We don’t really think about it, we’re just being, what to us is, “normal.” And we’ve been banking at our bank for more than ten years. We like them because they’re local and personal and friendly. So we’re personal and friendly when we interact with them.

We put a physical touch to how God relates to human beings. We’re His hands and feet and mouth and hugs. We need the interaction with others, and others need the interaction with us. Happy New Year to everyone…I just wanted to share my top 10 OuterNational Reggae Choices for 2009. The main criteria for picking these has been quality of song and not sales or popularity. I prefer to play songs that have a crafted, gifted sound than ones that have been mass-produced for the purpose of popularity…So here they are with some short blurb on why they have been chosen..

1. America – Albarosie – top tune, heavy message and sounds great blasted loud. Albarosie is at his finest on this as a next generation singjay stylee dj and conscious roots singer.

2. Judgment Day – Bill Ortiz – reggae instrumental covers can be bland but this one rocks. Bill Ortiz plays trumpet for Santana and his new CD ‘From Where I Stand’ is one of the most spiritual releases of the year.

3. The Way Life Should Be – Joan Baez & Rocker T – a very historic collaboration that links so many people together. Just that one line ‘We’ve all got to stop the war before we die’ seals it for me.

4. Reggae Feelin’ – Tune In Crew feat Dynamiq – a new Crew to me but they sound very seasoned production wise. Dropped at the right time in the dance you are gaurenteed to have the masses skanking.
5. Green 4 Life – Kiddus I – title track and great to have a new release from this classic singer. Also look out for the version release of ‘Graduation in Zion’. You can interpret the tune how you want…either way I am Green 4 Life.

6. Turn You Around – Tony Brown – from the first moment I heard this it just stuck in the player. One of the best love songs of 2009.

7. Mr Francois – Mojo Morgan – acoustic wise this is the tune of the year for me. A guitar and a voice and reality lyrics sung by a very fine singer – what more could you ask for.

8. One In a Million – Gramps Morgan – a very successful year for Gramps. I just love the way this song builds up. A great love song sung by one of the best reggae singers.

9. Never Give Up On Jah – Inner Circle – one of the longest surviving reggae bands still making music sound as fresh as always on this tune.

10. Thalassa – Dub Remix – Lia Vissy feat Haji Mike – produced by my brother Sonic Crime, I could have put another 3 tunes in here, like Babylon Time, Bless or Hate Breeds Hate that I have done with various people round the world in 2009 but this one, with Lia’s voice is very special to me.

The Telling download Great Expectations hd In this Photoshop tutorial I’ll show you how to create an old world style wax seal using just a few layers, layer styles and the pen tool. As usual, this tutorial assumes you have at least a cursory knowledge of the pen tool.

Step 1

We’ll begin where all good Photoshop exercises do by opening a new document. Mine is 540×320px at 72ppi but as always you can adjust this to your hearts desire. Just remember that if you’re creating an image at a higher ppi or even larger on the canvas, you’ll need to adjust your layer styles to look right along the way. Lets jump right in and create the outer ring of wax. Grab the pen tool by pressing the P key, click a starting point and then click and bend the segments to create the exterior perimeter of the wax seal. Typically these seals have a smooth wavy outline like the completed path below.

Step 2

Before we go any further lets click over to the Paths palette and name this new path Wax Outline . Now lets draw the inner boundary for this area of our wax. With the pen tool still selected make sure that the Exclude Overlapping Path Areas option is selected and then create a new lightly wavy inner circle as shown in the example below. Notice that both paths are contained in the Wax Outline path layer and the path layer thumbnail indeed shows the new path has subtracted the center area from our object.

Step 3 In the Mouth of Madness trailer

With the outer area of the wax drawn as paths lets switch over to the Layers palette and create a new layer called Wax Edge . Press the A key to invoke the Path Selection Tool and click and drag a selection around the entire path on the stage to select the entire thing. Every point on your path should now show up as a solid black square.

Step 4

Now that the entire path is selected Control-Click (PC: Right-Click) on the path and choose Create Vector Mask from the menu. This will create a mask on the Wax Edge layer based on the paths we have selected.

Step 5

In the Tools palette change the foreground color to #bb362e and press Option-Delete (PC: Alt-Backspace) to fill the layer with that color. Notice that only the area exposed by the layer mask is showing through.

Step 6 download Romeo + Juliet

For reasons I’ll explain later we’re going to need a duplicate copy of this layer, so lets create that duplicate now by pressing Command-J (PC: Ctrl-J). Call the lower layer shadow .

Step 7

Make sure the Wax Edge layer is selected in the Layers palette and lets add a few Layer Styles to bring our wax edge to life. Command-Click (PC: Right-Click) on the Wax Edge layer and choose Blending Options from the menu to bring up the Layer Styles dialog box and add the following Drop shadow and Contour. Be sure to check every single setting as many of them have been changed. Depending on the size and resolution of your object you may need to adjust the sizes of the styles accordingly to get a look you’re happy with.

Step 8

Your Wax Edge should now be looking something like this.

Next we’re going to create the center of the wax seal by using pieces we’ve already created. Pay close attention here so you don’t get lost. download Lost Souls Click on the shadow layer and duplicate it by pressing Command-J (PC: Ctrl-J). Name this new layer Wax Center . So that we can work with this new layer clearly lets hide the Shadow The Time Shifters movie download and Wax Edge layers by clicking on the little eye icon next to each in the Layers palette.

Step 10

Press the A key to switch to the Path Selection tool if it’s not still selected. Click on the outer path to select it and then press Delete (PC: Backspace) to remove it. This will instantly switch the color to the inside of the inner circle.

Step 11

This inner circle we’ve now created is the exact size of the center of our wax, it is common however in this sort of situation for a small outline of white to appear between the inner and outer pieces so we’re going to expand this inner area a bit. Click on the path to select it and then press Command-T (PC: Ctrl-T) to invoke the Free Transform tool. Instead of clicking and dragging the corner points we’re going to use the Free Transform options bar to do all the work. Click the Maintain Aspect Ratio icon between the Width and Height size percentage fields to insure a perfect transformation, then enter 105% into the Width field and notice that the Height field changes to 105% instantly. Press the Return (PC: Enter) key twice to commit the transformation of the path.

Step 12

Go ahead and unhide the Wax Edge and Shadow layers now and if you don’t want to see the paths on stage you can press Command-H (PC: Ctrl-H) to hide them.

Step 13

Redline movie download Making sure the Wax Center layer is selected add the following bevel and Emboss, Contour and Satin layer styles. These styles will allow the center of our wax stamp to blend with the edge softly and will create a nice rounded transition between the two. Remember to check each individual setting to insure you don’t miss anything.

While we’re in the mode of adding layer styles, lets add a Drop Shadow and Outer Glow to the Shadow Task Force release layer as well. Notice that I’ve changed the color and blend mode of the Outer Glow style to black and multiply. By doing this I can add an even outer shadow of just a few pixels around the whole object to make it look like it’s sitting on the surface a little nicer. Remember when I said I’d explain why we’d made this duplicate of the Wax Edge layer? Well here you go… If we had added this Layer Style to the Wax Edge layer, the shadow would have also been cast across the Wax Center layer on the inside and would have ruined the effect, but by having a duplicate copy hiding at the bottom of the layer stack we can apply the shadow and it only shows up where it’s supposed to at the outer edge of our seal. Pretty tricky eh?

Step 16

Now that our wax seal is built we can add a detail to the center of it that will finalize the effect. I’m going to use one of the shapes from my Heraldic Custom Shapes set, but you can use any custom shape you’d like, even text. Create a new layer above the Wax Center layer (I’ll call mine Heraldic Shape buy Dark Heart since that’s what I’m putting on it). Press the U key to switch to the Custom Shape tool, make sure the Custom Shape blob is selected in the Options bar at the top of Photoshop and that the Paths option is also selected. Choose a custom shape from the Custom Shape picker and then click and drag your shape path onto the stage.

Step 17

Just like we did earlier, lets convert this path to a Vector Mask by first switching to the Path Selection tool by pressing the A key and then Command-Clicking (PC: Right-Clicking) on the path and choosing Create Vector Mask from the menu. Now fill the layer with color by pressing Option-Delete (PC: Alt-Backspace) – any color will be fine because we’re going to drop the layer’s Fill opacity to 0% as well. Lords of Dogtown movie If you didn’t get that hint, now would be a good time to drop the Fill opacity of this new layer to 0% in the Layers palette.

Step 18

Press Command-H (PC: Ctrl-H) to hide the paths and then add a bevel and Emboss and Contour to this layer as well. Since we’ve set the Fill opacity of the layer to 0% but the Opacity is still set to 100% the bevel and emboss will show as highlight and shadow areas but will allow the underlying layer tones to show through.

The finished wax seal should now look like this.

In my final image I added a piece of string below the seal and some folded old paper for the wax seal to live on. You can learn to make both of these pieces in other tutorials I’ve written. I also added a clipping mask from the Heraldic Shape layer to the Wax Center layer which allowed even more of the color from the underlying layer to appear on the Heraldic Shape. This weekend my father-in-law announced that he had purchased Garth Brooks tickets for an upcoming trip to Vegas. Being in the business I knew what he was going to say next. “They were only $125, but I had to go through a ton of hoops to ensure I wouldn’t scalp them.”

 Half of the family thought it was great to be a fan and be able to put in effort and purchase tickets at a very reasonable price. The other half of the family was outraged that you couldn’t resell the tickets or have the option of paying more to purchase through an aftermarket ticket agency.

I guess it comes down to the how you view the price of entertainment. Do you think that fans should be rewarded for their loyalty and effort they will put into seeing a show or is the customer with the bigger wallet entitled to buy the best seats?  For me it falls somewhere in the middle.

I have no issues with people spending more for a product that they really want. My job is to educate as many fans as possible that they can buy seats through the venue first and that we have programs available to reward loyal fans for their efforts.

Next best option Inner Circle Membership, this allows you to buy tickets  three days before the general public. We also have a free email list that allows you to purchase one day before the general public. Lastly there is the general public on sale. If none of those get you the seats you want, then find an aftermarket ticket seller.

A document from a financing, investment and advisory firm in New York has been released requesting a short-term loan of £7.5m to repay debts and keep the club running.

The document, available on the Holmesdale and BBS, also indicates that there are a number of ‘non-core’ player sales lined up for January and August with the intention of creating extra revenue.

While the player’s identities are not indicated, the value of one player is £4m – despite said player also having low wages. The low wages would, with a bit of guesswork, suggest that Victor Moses already has a new club lined up for August.

In addition to Moses’ potential departure, another player is also lined up for sale in August – valued at £1m. Another three players will depart in the January transfer window.

As weeks pass, the severity of the club’s situation becomes increasingly apparent. What is clear is that the club needs as much support at this time as possible – which means that it needs fans to attend games. This is a difficult situation for the club – but there is every reason for the fans to get involved and to try and at least soften the financial blow.

En 1970 la cantante Lynn Anderson fue la artífice de que se convirtiera en la canción más vendida por una artista country femenina y que este récord durase hasta 1997. Si hoy se recuerda a Lynn es fundamentalmente por esta versión (y viceversa) ya que no pudo igualar su repercusión ni en ventas ni en posiciones en las listas de éxitos, a pesar de tener una carrera extensa y fructífera.

El grupo donostiarra Duncan Dhu hizo una adaptación de la mano de Diego Vasallo a la que titularon Jardín de Rosas, que junto a Cien Gaviotas, Esos Ojos Negros y No Puedo Evitar (pensar en ti) conformaron un segundo disco Canciones (1986) que les llevó a vender cantidades indecentes de discos y a iniciar una carrera con un éxito que no les abandonaría hasta el final. Abajo tal como la grabaron aunque a lo largo de las siguientes giras la tocarían de forma más rockera y acelerada.
