I was shocked when I saw this video. It was recorded in 1984. Nicholas Negroponite predicted 5 things. It showed on the following,
1.Touch screen, The experience texture
2.Multi-touch
3.Hyper-link system
4.Treat computer as pedagogical device
5.Video conferencing with a real face
I will write some reflection about these 5 things in the following posts and find out is it become real real yet?

After the presentation, I found that are may be some opportunity of
explore a emotion input from our face expression. Because most of the laptop/ desktop got the webcam,
But It might cause some privacy policy problem.Anyway, we could try of it. Our face expression, the atmosphere, the input device could be boarder.

Even though automated testing scripts are intended to communicate with application under test there

Even though automated testing scripts are intended to communicate with application under test there are cases when communication with tester is required. With QTP, we can use either built-in MsgBox / InputBox functions or link standard Windows dialogs through COM.

MsgBox

Use this function to report information (like value of a variable) during debugging or to report a critical issue that caused test execution to stop.

MsgBox(prompt[, buttons][, title][, helpfile, context])
‘Example.
Dim MyVar
MyVar = MsgBox (“Hello World!”, 65, “MsgBox Example”)
‘ MyVar contains either 1 or 2, depending on which button is clicked.

For a complete description please refer to Quick Test Professional Help.

InputBox

Use this function to ask a tester to input a short simple value, like environment name. Do not use InputBox dialog for a long text input, like file path, or complex data input, like username/password.

InputBox(prompt[, title][, default][, xpos][, ypos][, helpfile, context])
‘Example
Dim Input
Input = InputBox(“Enter your name”)
MsgBox (“You entered: ” & Input)

For a complete description please refer to Quick Test Professional Help.

For complex data input dialog you can create your own custom one using DotNetFactory interface.

Standard Dialogs – MSComDlg

The MSComDlg component could be used to display several types of dialogs: open file, save file, printer, color and font dialogs.

‘Example
Dim CDLG
Set CDLG = CreateObject(“MSComDlg.CommonDialog”)
With CDLG
.DialogTitle = “Get me a File!”
.Filter = _
“Documents|*.doc|Templates|*.dot|Text Files|*.txt”
.ShowOpen
MsgBox .FileName
End With
Set CDLG = Nothing

You may experience a licensing issue with this control if you don’t have Visual Studio installed on the machine executing the code that uses MSComDlg. To resolve the issue please refer to the article or use another dialog component.

Standard Dialogs – UserAccounts

The UserAccounts component is available in Windows family beginning from Windows XP.

‘Create Dialog
Set objDialog = CreateObject(“UserAccounts.CommonDialog”)
objDialog.Filter = “Test Plan Spreadsheets|*.xls”
objDialog.FilterIndex = 1
objDialog.InitialDir = “C:\Test Suite\Test Plans”
‘Show Dialog
intRC = objDialog.ShowOpen
sTestPlan = objDialog.FileName

Processing Instruction (PI) is an input-based instructional technique proposed by Bill VanPatten. It

Processing Instruction (PI) is an input-based instructional technique proposed by Bill VanPatten. It differs from ‘traditional’ approaches to grammar instruction in that an attempt is made to influence the learner’s processing strategies at the input stage of acquisition, whereas traditional instruction (TI) intervenes with focused practice at the output stage. In his 2008 article Processing matters in input enhancement, he presents three premises that form a basis for PI:

Input is a necessary condition for language acquisition.

The way in which learners process (or fail to process) input may be a major problem in acquisition.

Understanding how learners process input might allow us to devise input-enhancement or focus-on-form instructional strategies to facilitate acquisition of formal features of language.

Good things seem to come in threes. VanPatten presents three basic features of PI (from Gass & Selinker 2008):

Give learners information about a structure or form.

Inform learners about a particular processing strategy that may get in the way of selecting the form/structure during comprehension.

Structure input so that learners must rely on form/structure to get meaning and not rely on natural processing tendencies.

An important feature of the approach is Structured Input (SI). Structured input is input that is formulated in such a way as to force the learner to recognize the relationship between form and meaning, i.e., input that makes meaning dependent on form, thus increasing the chance that the learner will notice and acquire the form-meaning relationship. One form of SI activity is what VanPatten calls a referential activity. Referential activities are activities that force learners to produce an answer to a question that has a right and wrong answer. The learner’s ability to answer correctly will depend on his/her understanding of the mapping of meaning to form. This is distinguished from traditional activities in which the learners are simply prompted to rehearse a form either in a non-meaningful, non-communicative context or without having their consciousness raised to what pitfalls of processing may arise.

VanPatten presents the following example:

Jean fait promener le chien à Marie//John makes to walk the dog to Mary//”John Makes Mary walk the dog”

The teacher asks the student who walks the dog. Most native speakers of English will respond Jean, as they are functioning under the English processing strategy “the first noun in the sentence is the agent.” The teacher explains that this processing strategy will not work in French, and explains the structure of the French causative. Next, the teacher does a structured input activity with the learners in which they have to answer factual questions that require a correct understanding of the French causative in order to answer correctly.

VanPatten’s own data suggest that PI does indeed help learners understand and produce target structures. This seems intuitive to me, and it is something I have already done in my classroom without knowing that what I was doing. Wynne Wong has written an easy-t0-read article on Processing Instruction:

Linking Form and Meaning: Processing Instruction. The French Review, Vol. 76, No. 2 (Dec., 2002), pp. 236-264

Viziunea. Ideea.

Iar in final impartirea responsabilitatilor. Dupa competente, disponibilitate si potential. Apoi s-a imbracat si a plecat. Spre alta intalnire, alt proiect, alta echipa de creat si valorificat.

One of the major reasons I was turned onto the DROID was because of it’s full, slide-out keybo

One of the major reasons I was turned onto the DROID was because of it’s full, slide-out keyboard. After using the DROID for a good four days I have decided that I do like the hardware keyboard, even with it’s quirks, and efficiently use the stock Android on-screen keyboard. Good thing that with the DROID and Android there are some options.

Hardware Keyboard

Some are saying that the hardware keyboard is complete junk. I would say that it is usable and actually works quite well for me. The keyboard reminds me of the HTC Mogul (XV6800) that was on Verizon and Sprint. The keys are flat, kind of slippery, close together, and are raised a tad (not really enough to differentiate them). It sounds way worse than it is.

I have two problems with this keyboard. First, your right hand has to reach over the “chin” of the phone (where the D pad is) to access the keyboard. It’s awkward and a tad uncomfortable. Second, when quickly typing V, B, or N buttons my thumbs accidentally hit the space bar. There isn’t any real way to “fix” these problems so it looks like I will get used to it.

Software Keyboard

The software keyboard seems inaccurate to the way that I type, especially in portrait mode. I feel that the keys are too close together and I don’t have enough room for error. Something that is very troubling is that there is no multi-touch on the keyboard — that is you have to lift your fingers completely off of one key before you hit the next key for it to register.

Engadget has a good video showing the differences between the DROID and the iPhone’s on screen keyboard. It clearly shows that there is no multi-touch on the stock Android keyboard.

Other on-screen keyboards

I found that Better Keyboard from the Marketplace does a good job, at least for the way that I type on the screen. It costs a little bit of money, but for me it was worth the price.

Also, I tried to install the HTC keyboard which can be found on the Hero or the Eris. Since it wasn’t built for Android 2.0 I got a nice error message every time I tried to launch it. Once HTC pushes out their Sense UI build for Android 2.0, we may see the nice HTC keyboard present itself as a valid alternative.

by Frank Fortner

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has recently visited this blog and especially those who have directly contributed to it. If you have left comments or cast your vote in one or more the polls, please know we are grateful for your valuable input. Blogs are meant to be interactive and as a writer, it’s encouraging to know when you have touched a topical nerve, sparking relevant conversation. I hope you’ll continue to view this blog in that way, as a dialogue, and contribute as your schedule allows.

Having said that, I want to acknowledge what you have said through the recent polls. Let’s start with the name of FOCUS. Last month, I blogged about the name of the newest platform technology changing from FOCUS to MEDITECH Advanced Technology. If you were to ask anyone I work with, they would tell you I love to name things. In that spirit, I playfully threw out a few suggestions such as XMAGIC (MAGIC’s next generation) and asked you all what you thought. Your votes in the polls spoke loudly. Your favorite name (by one vote) is XMAGIC which will only further encourage me, but thank you anyway. Your second favorite is … drumroll … FOCUS! As I’ve stated before, I liked it too and I’m sad to see it go. Most interestingly however is the fact that out of 192 votes (as of this writing) Advanced Technology received a mere 4% (7 total votes). Even that was encouraging because we now know MEDITECH reads the blog.

In another recent post, I wrote about the rumors claiming there will be no third party applications in FOCUS. Your grandmother was right – everything comes back around given enough time. Just like bell-bottoms, leg warmers and pirate shirts, these are the same rumors that were once fashionable during the early years of MAGIC $T, MAGIC NPR and Client/Server NPR. Now it seems with the release of 6.x their time has come again. After sharing my thoughts on the subject, I wanted to know how effective these rumors had been, hence the poll. Not surprisingly, only 1 out of 31 voters actually believed the rumors. Again, it’s nice to know at least someone in Canton is reading these posts. The good news is the other 97% of you aren’t buying it at all, which is what I expected.

We promise to keep the blog posts coming along with the occasional polls and I encourage you all to keep making your voices heard. We’re listening and will use your suggestions to plan our next posts. Also, you never know who else is listening…

Apple (s aapl) apparently isn’t exclusively devoted to the idea of finger-based multi-touch in

Apple (s aapl) apparently isn’t exclusively devoted to the idea of finger-based multi-touch input on all its devices, a recent patent applications shows. The patent application, found by Apple Insider, describes the use of a pen-like stylus to operate an “ink information” input system, and references tablet computing applications for the new tech by name.

“Ink information” refers to handwriting technology, specifically. The patent describes that previous attempts in this field, including in Apple’s own Newton device, have been insufficient to the task in the past. It suggests that the addition of an “ink manager,” a kind of go-between interpretive process, might reduce the occurrence of mistaken or misplaced ink detection.

Here’s the exact wording of Apple’s description of both the problem of ink detection and its proposed solution:

Even systems that attempt to improve this situation by using each stroke to determine the input field anew, such as the Apple Newton from Apple Computer Inc. of Cupertino, Calif., can suffer from failure modes that make the situation difficult for both end users and for application developers. For example, a word that accidentally spans two input fields even a tiny amount (due, for instance, to a stray ascender, descender, crossbar, or dot) may be broken up into multiple sessions, causing misrecognition and invalid data entries that must be manually corrected.

The ink manager interfaces between a pen-based input device, one or more applications (pen-aware or not) and one or more handwriting recognition engines executing on the computer system. The ink manager acquires ink information, such as ink strokes, entered at the pen-based input device, and organizes that information into ink phrases.

Along with the patent description, Apple included an image of the proposed system in the application. The graphic is very reminiscent of prototypes and concepts of the as-yet unannounced tablet computer that has the Apple community bubbling over with excitement. Note the bar at the bottom, which resembles the dock on the home screen of the iPhone. I’d also like to point out that the device looks a lot like a reader, given the scroll buttons at the bottom. Maybe Apple is planning to change the game by making sure its reader doubles as a writer, too.

Ideally, the digital ink and stylus input tech described in the patent would operate alongside touch input. This application will no doubt bring a lot of hope for digital artists hoping to work with the device, for whom pen input is infinitely preferable to touch control. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long to find out if a pen system makes it into a production device, since the tablet is rumored to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2010.

Here at Enfig Car Stereo we answer the same questions every day so I figured that if I made this guide it would clarify most of the questions and let us get back onto VWVortex.com. We specialize in Volkswagen & Audi. We also carry all the relevant iPod interfaces on the market and have been selling Auxiliary AUX interfaces for over 10 years since they were just used for people who wanted a direct audio input for their in-car TV’s. Everything on this page is for sale on our website EnfigCarStereo.com or you can click on the image of the item for a direct link to the item. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE BEFORE CALLING US WITH QUESTIONS. It will help you make the best decision as to what interface you need and help keep us from answering repetitive questions. But if you do have questions after reading this please feel free to call us. We will be more than happy to speak to you.

Lets start with the cars.
GTI 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010
Jetta 2005.5 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 ( the 2005 Jetta’s body was changed mid year so only the later half is covered on this page)
R32 2008
Rabbit 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010

All the cars above have the same audio systems. There are three different types of radios as far as Auxiliary Aux audio input adapters are concerned. Non Satellite ready, satellite ready and the Navigation radio. All of these radios have an external CD changer port that is tricked into thinking that there is an external CD changer attached so that the audio port is activated and opened to allow the transfer of audio from your audio source to your radio. When I say audio source I mean whatever you are getting audio from. examples: MP3 player, Portable DVD player, laptop, Satellite radio, etc. NONE OF THESE INTERFACES WILL DISABLE YOUR IN DASH CD CHANGER OR CD PLAYER.

There are 4 different radios in these cars (us market) Not Satellite Ready single CD/Not Satellite Ready 6CD/Satellite Ready 6CD/Navigation

Connection Locations
There are 2 places to connect your interface. To the CD changer port behind the radio or to the black CD changer port in the center console between the seats. All cars have the connection behind the radio. Usually only the cars with factory installed navigation radios have the connection between the seats because all cars equipped with a navigation radio also come equipped with a CD changer in that location. If you do not have a CD changer between the seats it doesn’t hurt to check but unless someone swapped the navigation radio out of your car before you purchased it you will not have the black connection between the seats.

Factory Satellite Radio
If you have factory XM or Sirius satellite radio it will be plugged into the CD changer port. If you don’t plan on using the XM or Sirius satellite radio you can just unplug it and disable it. If you plan on using the factory XM or Sirius satellite radio there are 2 options. You can take apart the connector and move pins around or for $9.99 (on sale)we have designed a complete plug and play splitter. The Enfig VW SAT PASS 1 http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/ENFIG_MK5_SAT_PASSTHRU.html. We recommend the splitter because the pins are small and fragile therefore can easily be damaged if you have never removed one before. If you have the navigation radio with the black CD changer connection between the seats the splitter is built into the car so as long as you connect it at the black plug between the seats the satellite radio will not be disturbed.

Ipod
If you have an iPod there are interfaces that will give you an iPod specific input as well as a universal AUX Auxiliary input. For more information on these devices click on the following link. http://enfig.wordpress.com/2009/10/28/volkswaen-ipod-guide-eos-2006-2009-gti-2006-2010-jetta-2005-5-2010-r32-2008-rabbit-2006-2010/

While there are many different manufacturers that do AUX auxiliary interfaces there are only a few we sell and recommend.

Difficulty Level: Very Easy

Time Required: <2 minutes

You might be missing some of your old plugins, or simply wanting to install Shockwave. Either way, with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard – You’re going to need Safari back in 32-bit mode to handle the old input managers.

Here is a short 3 step guide to doing just that:

Here we go:

1. Navigate to Safari in your dock and ‘Command+Click’ or, find it in the Applications folder

2. Right Click on Safari and click “Get Info” (or for the savvy, ‘Command+I’)

3. Check off “Open in 32-bit Mode”

4. Pat yourself on the back, you’re good to go!

This same process can be used for a variety of applications, you will notice all your old 32-bit plugins (Safari AdBlock, Glims, and Inquisitor) will be working again.

Reading from the keyboard (stdin) in C might be tricky, for various reasons. One very common issue y

Reading from the keyboard (stdin) in C might be tricky, for various reasons. One very common issue you might go through is that the input buffer might be dirty from stuff that remained there from a previous reading. To make things easier for me, I’ll call the input buffer “IB” from now on. Let’s start with some code:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

int main()
{
char readinput1,readinput2;

	printf("\n\n\t Type a character to be stored into \"readinput1\": ");
	readinput1 = getchar();
	printf("\n\n\t Type a character to be stored into \"readinput2\": ");
	readinput2 = getchar();

	printf("\n\n\n\t You've typed: %c (readinput1) and %c (readinput2)", readinput1, readinput2);

	return 0;
}

Ok, so what this code apparently does is ask the user to type in one character twice, storing each of them into a different variable of the appropriate type. In fact, though, when you run this code and test it, you’ll see that readinput2 ends up with the newline character (‘\n’). That’s there because when the user presses the “enter” key (carriage return) to finalize the typing, two character codes are sent to the OS: ‘\r’ (carriage return) and ‘\n’ (“enter” is the same key used whenever you wanna add a new line on text input).

What happens then is the \n stays in the IB, and then when we call getchar() again, it will do just what it’s supposed to, which is to take one character from the IB and return it. That’s how readinput2 gets messed up.

On a more interesting example:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

int main()
{
char readinput1[10],readinput2[10];

	printf("\n\n\t Type 9 characters to be stored into \"readinput1\": ");
	fgets(readinput1, sizeof(readinput1), stdin);
	printf("\n\n\t Type 9 characters to be stored into \"readinput2\": ");
	fgets(readinput2, sizeof(readinput2), stdin);

	printf("\n\n\n\t You've typed: %s (readinput1) and %s (readinput2)", readinput1, readinput2);

	return 0;
}

Notice this code isn’t vulnerable to buffer overflows on readinput1 and readinput2, because we’ve specified we want to read up to and no more than sizeof(readinput1) and sizeof(readinput2) into each one, but here’s how we’re gonna do this: run the code, then type in “12345678901234567″ when it asks for the first input. Press ENTER and watch what happens. Here it is:

So what happened there? Well, we threw 18 bytes into the IB, and it looks like this: 12345678901234567\n. The first call to fgets() takes 9 bytes from it, throws into readinput1 (indeces 0..8), then finalizes readinput1 with the null byte character (”). Then there’s a second call to fgets(), but at this point the IB looks like this: 01234567\n, and look, there’s a \n at the end of it. fgets() will stop reading whenever it reaches a newline character, and that’s why the user doesn’t even get a chance to type anything. readinput2 then ends up with 01234567\n, as shown in the screen shot.

All right, so how do we solve this?

Well, if you think about it, we have functions in C that will pop characters off the IB, and that’s really all we need. In the first example, as you could have guessed, you could add a getchar(); after the first reading so as to get rid of the \n that’s left in stdin, but that’s hardly an efficient solution, because, as we’ve just demonstrated, we may have any amount of bytes left there, depending on what the user types. But coming up with a solution is simple enough, all we need to do is keep popping characters off stdin until we reach a \n or a nullbyte

So here’s my code for that:

void clearib()
{
    int c;
    for(; c != EOF && c != '\n'; c = getc(stdin));
}

So all you need to do is, whenever you think there might be trash left out there, call this function before reading anything in. So our example could be fixed like this:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

void clearib()
{
    int c;
    for(; c != EOF && c != '\n'; c = getc(stdin));
}

int main()
{
char readinput1[10],readinput2[10];

	printf("\n\n\t Type 10 characters to be stored into \"readinput1\": ");
	fgets(readinput1, sizeof(readinput1), stdin);
	clearib();

	printf("\n\n\t Type 10 characters to be stored into \"readinput2\": ");
	fgets(readinput2, sizeof(readinput2), stdin);
	clearib();

	printf("\n\n\n\t You've typed: %s (readinput1) and %s (readinput2)", readinput1, readinput2);

	return 0;
}

Sure enough, if you give the same input you did for readinput1 the first time, you’ll see it’s fixed. Here I typed in “12345678901234567″ again, pressed enter, and got asked to type in the input for readinput2. I gave it “aaaaaaaaaa” (10 times ‘a’), and both strings contained what they were supposed to at the end. Notice how I called clearib() after the second fgets(), so even though there is one ‘a’ left in stdin after this (because fgets() reads 9 bytes + terminates the string with the null byte), the buffer is cleared with the given function and all is well. Here’s the output:

And that’s that. If anyone has any ideas/thoughts/comments/better solutions, please speak up. Otherwhise, enjoy
